Deeney was a pretty good lecturer, except for when she sped through topics/concepts that were complex & hard to grasp. Hard tests, but mostly on stuff you will have learned.
Pay attention in class, she tends to move quickly through lessons, but willing to help if it is needed.
fairly good lectures, some exams were overly long and tedious but for the most part doable
Is boring if you've read the book and understand it because she goes over the same stuff in class, just very slowly. Is willing to help you understand. Her tests are difficult due to lots of formula memorization.
Dr. Deeney was my favorite professor, even though math is difficult for me. She was always willing to help me if I had questions. It was an interesting class and I enjoyed it very much.
I enjoyed math 335. Dr Deeney was a fine professor and her lectures helped me understand the material immensly. The subject matter and the book itself were very boring. But if you have to take this class take it with megan deeney.
Very difficult!
Best math teacher I’ve ever had! She explains things clearly and precisely, I never had any questions about what she explained. She was always willing to help.
taught myself
not good
I really liked my calculus class
I had to teach myself everything in this class. Beware on test she throws trick questions in all the time to screw you over.
Her lectures were good, tests tended to be more difficult. As long as you study the class isn't too bad. She's a fun lady to take a course from, very nice also.
This class was extremely hard and Deeney did a terrible job of teaching. She is more worried about getting through the book then taking her time so that students can better understand the class. Also, her tests are extremely hard and filled with questions that seem to have no answers.
She's kind of a spaz, but if you go in for extra help she really clears things up. She's very nice but really not an excellent teacher, can't seem to keep things straight and put together, always questioning herself.
makes lots of mistakes, very hard to learn, stay away
Clear lectures. Class can be boaring, it all depends on the students in it(she will go along with jokes). If you do the homework, study the recomended problems you shouldn't have a problem. Good at answering questions clearly durring class. A good teacher, WAY BETTER THAN ANY STUDENT TEACHER!!!
Best math teacher that I have ever had since junior high. All you have to do is break the ice, make jokes, and get personal and she makes the class really fun. She also becomes more lenient with students if she enjoys the atmosphere.
I studied all of this material in high school, but DDr. Deeney manages to make it all more confusing. I found her annoying, and a pain in the ass. I would have RATHER had a student teacher. Although I got A's in five years of high school math, her tests and exams were difficult. I just got a D.
I think Deeney is a good teacher. Sometimes her lectures are confusing. If you don't have a good rememberance from lower maths, it would seem difficult. She knows her stuff though, she drops one quiz, and the tests aren't too hard. But homework is due everyday.. Highly Reccommended
I liked her. I had her for Math 115 and Math 124. If you go to her office hours she is super nice. I also thought she did a good job at explaining things in simple terms.
I thought Deeny was a great math teacher, one of the best math teachers I have ever had and much better than a TA. She explains things very well and is always available to help you after class. I found her tests to be predictable and not too complex.
She is a great math teacher! Math is not my thing and she was able to explain things so I understood them. You just have to make sure you ask questions if you don't understand something and you will be fine.
Wow, best teacher i've had in a long long time! I strongly recommend taking 102 if you can get Deeney- I herd most of the student teachers suck ass, but Deeney helped me feel more confident she really lays things out how they are- no tricks!
Reads to you from the book, page by page. Looks over your assignments and tests to mark off as much as possible. Bragged about failing students. Not a nice person. Makes you wonder who is in charge of hiring at Western.
Prof. Deeney is a GREAT math teacher. I got D's in high school math, but a B+ with her. She is very straight-forward and understands that not everyone is good at math. Tests and quizzes very fair, homework due everyday, just like every other math class. She is really nice and makes math fairly easy!
Math is really hard, but was bearable. The only problem is the homework didn't prepare us fully for the tests. Also, cumulative tests suck.
I really enjoyed this class, as well as Dr. Deeney's teaching style. Not an easy class, but definitely interesting, and she made it worthwhile. Nice teacher.
She is very good made the class super easy!!
Class sucked. She read from the book the whole lecture and once admitted that she was learning the material with us. On of the most boring classes I've taken and didn't like her either.

horrible teacher doesnt explain problems, just does them on the board...was late to class a lot
She just does it out of the book, which is good if you want to just get stuff done. If you dont get math easily, dont take her.
The tests are much harder than anything ever assigned as homework...
I liked Megan alot. I have never liked math before and have never gotten such high scores in a math class as I did in hers. She makes things easy to understand and is always very helpful.
She does a pretty good job teaching the material. But the tests are really short so if there is one problem you dont know how to do, you are pretty much screwed. There are 12 random quizes and she drops 4. And yes, she was late almost every day.
Megan was awesome. Her tests were really, really hard, there was alot of homework, but she would help you when you needed it. She explained things well and she would answer all your questions until you understood. She was late a lot but that was because of her disabled husband. Overall the most clear and helpful math teacher I have ever had.
She was very unclear and her tests never correlated with the assignments. She seemed to always talk down to her students as if she was albert einstein.
She really does think that all of her students are stupid. One day she spent at least 5-10 minutes telling us all the difference between the subtraction and negative sign on the calculator.
even though this was a low-level class, she thinks everyone is stupid because she actually was explaining rise over run and**** like that for 1/2 the class. shes kind of a boring teacher, and definitely NOT a good teacher. her tests were somewhat difficult
Although she is a good teacher, she thinks that we as COLLEGE students dont know how to read graphs and what mean and median are! She spends alot of the class going over info. that we all already know or that can be read from the book. Overall, too much of a talker!!
I had her fall quarter for math 112. The test would have been easier if she was more clear in what she was teaching. She random and the problems on the test are on the things she dosnt go over alot and she goes so fast you have to learn alot yourself. Read what we are going over in class the day before and you will definately understand better.
Her tests are riduculously hard and don't reflect material learned in class... she doesn't give good examples, she makes you feel stupid if you ask her a question....she grades homework assignment and doesn't accept any late work! Don't take her if you can help it!!!
Nice teacher, most of the projects were ok. Last one sucked though. Decent grader, but some of her outside test sucked. Especially the modeling question in 435. Almost everyone needed extra time on that, which she did give for a 5 point deduction. But that is better then losing 15 points.
During the first week of class she spent about 5 minutes explaining the difference between the negative sign and the subtraction sign on the calculator. She is unclear and hard to listen to. I had to force myself to get to her class everyday.
makes things way harder to learn then they normally should be...explains things in long, hard to understand explanations, when there are way easier ways to complete problems
Megan Deeney is a horrible professor. This is the second time I've taken a class from her, and let me tell you, I should have learned my lesson the first time. Don't bother asking questions in class- she'll only talk in a circle and not explain anything. Her tests have questions that weren't even homework problems, much from the chapter.
This should have been the easiest class ever- some of the material I learned in 8th grade (mean, median, mode). But this class is ridiculous! She acts as though you're stupid, and will find every reason in the world to mark down. Handwriting, forgetting a % sign, "not showing enough work". Infuriating teacher.
This woman should not be teaching, much less grading. Marks you down for doing problems using alternate methods learned from the tutorial center. Her homework collection appears random, and often makes you waste time on assignments that are not collected.
She is the worst teahcer I have ever had.....if you need to take math 107 do NOT take it with her. I used to like math but will never take another math class after the experience i had in her class.
She seems like a bad prof until you miss a day and you see how much she actually helps. She is very welcoming in her office hours. I would recommend going to them... it honestly makes a difference and she wants to help. ****
She's a very nice lady, and she's good at explaining math. I've had the flu, and there's a test this week, and she's giving me a chance to take it later. So...for that, I think she's a great, understanding teacher.
she wuz a real **** when it came to the test. homework wuz decent if you know math. if you have the choice try and avoid her.
Deeney's class....well when you go to lectures, they are SO simple, and its almost a joke to come to class. However, when test time comes, somehow she makes them SO hard, and tries to trick you with the wording of the questions. I did not enjoy the class at all. The subject is easy, but she finds a way to make it hard.
Math 107 is suppose to be an easy class however, she made it so much harder than it had to be. Only one person in the entire class has an A. She was funny at times but it took away from her teaching. Just do yourself a favor and take this class from a different professor.
Didn't like her at 1st but as the class went on she became more helpful and the class got easier. She'll scare you at first by saying a bunch of stuff but just stick it out go to class everyday, do the homework and you should easily get a B or better. Tests are straight forward, she gives partial credit if you look like you were on the right track.
Teaches straight out of the book. Really.
took 107 as a class filler. thought the math was easy. homework was all A's then came the tests. she tricks you on the wording! her tests have little to do with the book material...
Great teacher. Very structured lesson plans. Explains concepts clearly and tries to involve students by presenting concepts using real life examples. Lets you make up tests if you are sick and is very helpfull in general. You can tell she nows what she is talking about during lectures. She is very easy-going and has a happy, light-hearted personali
Dr. Deeney has garnered both positive and negative ratings. The fact that some students suceed and some fail reflects on the caliber of each individual student. The negative complainers are several knowledge levels below the achieving suceeders and should be relegated to corresponding grade levels.
At first I thought I really enjoyed Deeney. She does a good job explaining things and making sure the class comprehends. However, here tests are nothing like the homework and she doesn't give good reviews before the tests, leading to a lot of students not doing well. I still got an A, but did not enjoy the class or her one bit in the end.
I took extensive notes, and tried on tests & still I got a D. Deeney is not very good at answering questions, or helping you with mistakes made. The lectures are quite good, it did not make up for things that you didn't understand... MAKE SURE TO GO TO CLASS, as she gives pop quizes, take notes and ALWAYS do all your probelms on your homework.
Clear teaching and goes over stuff in class. If you're stuck, however, you need to find help outside of class. Love how she lists the chapter's main topics and the page to find them everyday on the whiteboard :) Try to memorize the formulas because they are needed for the tests. Book is pretty good, but more wordy than I like.
This class is extremely easy as long as you do the homework and study for the tests. Going to class is not mandatory, but it can be helpful, as she often gives examples in class that are similar to what questions on the test are like.
She was very clear in what she expected for the class.
So Deeney is mean, not helpful at all and over- complicates things. She wouldn't go out of her way to help you she just does her job in class. If you are stuck you better have a friend help you or buy the study guide and solutions manual.. They are offered in the tutoring center in OM but they close at 5!! Her tests are long and harder the book!
awesome teacher. i am horrible at math and thought i would get a C or D in the class but after getting a D- on the first test i understood her teaching style and her test form and the class was quite enjoyable. first math class ever where i could use what i learned in everyday life. very helpful and nice. GO TO CLASS!! makes it easier to keep up.
I generally have a difficult time with math, but I passed this class with a good grade. Dr. Deeney is a pretty good teacher, makes things clear, and I enjoy her policies (attendance not mandatory, division of credit for homework and tests). She also has a really good attitude.
Deeney is a bad teacher. She is very defensive if you challenge her instead of explaining. She says attendance is not mandatory, and then gives pop quizzes, setting you up to fail. Her tests don't match the level of difficulty of the homework. She wastes class time on simple concepts, instead of what we need help on.
Deeney is a good teacher with a sense of humor as well. All you need to do in order to succeed in Math 156 is do the homework. Attendance recommended but not mandatory. No unannounced quizzes ever, dont believe the other hype. She drops lowest 8 hw assignments, 2 quizzes and 1 test i believe. Just dont talk when shes talking
Dr. Deeney is great. She decided to drop our lowest 8 of 30 homework grades and lowest of 4 tests grades for everyone because of the swine flu. She goes at the perfect pace and makes everything really easy to understand.
Dr. Deeney is grrreat! she seems a little rough or distant at first, but it isn't long before she shows her true colors. She's a warm, nice and helpful teacher! Completely clear on the math, its an easy class as long as you attend, and even then you can miss a few. More than willing to clarify and never skips a step anywhere along the way!
I absolutely loved Dr. Deeney! The homework is almost every night and kinda takes a long time but really easy to understand and she will answer any questions you have in class. The test were sorta different than the homework but overall she drops your lowest test grade and the lowest 8 homework assignments! Go to class and you'll get a good grade
Deeney is no good. Sure, do the homework every night, but it is nothing like the tests. She drops one test because everyone does so poorly. A very weak teacher and takes everything personally. Creates a negative learning environment. Doesn't deserve the title of Doctor.
Explains everything that is in the book, so no reading of the textbook is necessary. Very nice, and fairly lenient grading system (drops 6 lowest hw assignments out of less and the thirty and lowest test grade out of 4 tests).
Possibly one of the worst math professors I've had... and I've had my fair share of professors. Her test are NOTHING like her homework. The problems show up maybe once or twice. The test review she assigns does not help at all. She doesn't care if a majority of the class is failing or not. Avoid her if possible!
Horrible teacher. She makes easy concepts very confusing. I ended up teaching myself from the book and with other students in the class. homework due every night, lots and lots of quizzes and tests
She does not teach the truly difficult concepts in the class, just the basic ones. She then excepts you to learn the HARD stuff by yourself in the textbook. Her tests are nothing like the homework or quizzes she gives, throwing you off very easy. Awful teacher and from what i observe a pretty awful person, very condensending to those with questions
I thought Megan was a fairly good professor. Her lectures were very understandable with clear explanations and examples. Homework due every day in class, 4 tests, 5 or so quizzes.
Never take this teacher! Even though she drops low test/homework scores, she is expecting you to not do well. Homework is over 2 hours per night. There is no point listening to the lectures in class. Her homework is nothing like on the test and quizzes. Overall don't take her unless you expect jeopardizing your time, money and your grade.
Worst math teacher I've ever had. Does not make concepts easy. The days I had to stay in my dorm sick, I learned more than listening to her lectures. Grades hard, and does not make class engaging at all. Avoid this teacher.
If you come to class,do the homework, and study for the tests and quizzes you can get a good grade. She drops your low grades which helps a lot. She expects you to do the work and if you do she is an awesome teacher. Every class I have a clear grasp on the concepts. She is friendly and helpful.
She was clear, friendly and a fairly nice grader.
Megan Deeney is a great teacher. I have taken two classes with her, and wish she taught more! She uses great examples which make topics covered seem relevant as opposed to math classes which make you wonder "When will I ever need to know this in real life?" Grading is fair and she is very helpful. Take notes, do your homework and you will do fine.
Very difficult teacher, grades on whether you got the problem right, not if you get the concepts, homework is confusing, and rarely goes over more than one of the hw problems thatp people had, and barely scrapes the surface of the problem. Tests have nothing to do with the textbook, and grades overly difficult, avoid this teacher.
She's really not that bad. Just show up to class, do the homework, and you will do fine. The concepts are basic and repetative. If you are confused, she is very helpful during office hours. She actually grades pretty fairly and sometimes will curve or give extra credit.
Gave great examples but exams were slightly tough. Come to class & you should do fairly well. It was definitely a drag having to go to her class everyday.
Great teacher! Uses great examples, tests are fairly hard but are a good reflection of the material covered in class. Moves at an easy to follow pace and if you don't come to class it is easy to see what you missed in the book as well as attending office hours where she is very helpful. Overall excellent teacher and class.
She can be really hard to follow and isn't always the clearest.
extremely clear in her explanations, she's usually very prepared. She came to class 1-2 minutes late approximately 2 times. She was a fair grader, she doesn't hesitate to curve the tests or quizzes. The homework is extremely lengthy. But I managed to receive a B+ just by doing half of the homework and studying the book. (She didn't grade homework)
Awesome prof for non-math types, provided you are willing to put in the effort. Tough, but fair.
Great teacher for non-math types like myself. has a GREAT quarter with her. She knows her stuff, has great examples, goes over hmwk and questions if you are willing to talk to her more after class or during office hours. Fairly easy hmwk,. Attend class to get notes and helpful tips for quiz and you'll do great in this class!!!!
Easy math class for a GUR if you don't need to get to a high math level. Going to class is boring, but can be helpful. Homework daily, four chapter tests, and a cumulative final. She shows videos and tells little stories that she uses to get bonus questions for the tests, so pay attention to those. She goes over homework questions in class.
I've always struggled with math but Deeney made everything easy to understand. I would highly recommend her if you struggle with math but you do have to keep up with the homework and show up to class.
Expectations are clear and fair. Class is helpful to go to to go over homework and review problems in class but class is boring- fell asleep everyday. Tests are fair, lowest 6 hw grades as well as lowest test score are dropped (super helpful). She tells lame jokes and stories that appear as bonus problems in tests. Overall an okay class for a GUR
One of the best math teachers I've had at Western. She's clear and honestly cares about her student's comprehension. Take this GUR.
She is a wonderful math professor. She's clear, she can be funny and laid back. She explains things in multiple ways and I completely recommend this class to anyone who needs it. You just need to be concise with your answer.
Overall a really good math teacher. Her lectures are super clear and she always gives you the information you need for the homework. There is daily homework, but the lowest six scores are dropped. Her tests are not easy, and you really need to understand the material. The lowest text score is dropped. If you don't like math, take this GUR
If you miss a class, you miss a lot. Hw due daily, usually about 1 to 1 1/2 hours per night. Deeney is sweet&helpful. I never believed I was good at math before this class; turned out I just had bad teachers. I'm sad that I can't take more classes with her. Do your work, study for tests & go to every class & you'll do well. If you don't, you won't.
I LOVED Deeney! She was hilarious and extremely helpful. Pay attention to her stories, they end up as bonus questions on the tests! 1 test and 6 homeworks are dropped, plus notes on the final. The material is useful and easy to pick up(if you go to class!). Definitely reccommend her!
Has no sympathy or love, read syllabus, because anytime you ask a question, that's what she will tell you to look at anyways. I like this class, but really disliked this teacher strongly. One of rudest people I've ever met.
I do not think that Megan Deeney is is rude. I think she is a great teacher who does a good job of explaining things and takes time out of the lectures to answer questions. She makes jokes and it makes class a lot more interesting. Math is my least favorite subject and this is not my least favorite class. I would recommend her as a teacher.
Very nice woman with very clear lectures. Math comes easily to me but her methods of teaching are very well put together and she caters to all learning types. I would recommend her to anyone! Only other thing is that she could be more trusting of her students academically.
Rude and unhelpful. She doesn't want you to succeed and puts trick questions on tests. She grades unfairly because she is EXTREMELY vague about what she is asking for, but yet expects a very specific answer and won't accept anything else. She graded something wrong that was supposed to be right and laughed in my face and said oh well.
Very helpful! Can come off as a tad rude and stern at times, but we're in college and teachers aren't going to sugar coat life for you anymore. I went to her office hours a few times, and she was very eager to help me understand the material. Approved!
I had Deeney for 156 as well as 157 (which she teaches very similarly) and she very helpful. I by no mens would call myself a math wiz. She does assign nightly HW that will take you around 45min a night and it is graded somewhat on accuracy. This will really make you get to know the material well however. She is clear on her expectations.
Deeney is a wonderful professor! she is more than willing to help you during office hours! She may seem a little strict in the beginning, but she'll ease up. She also gives a cheat sheet for the final! :)
very helpful and kind as long as you are willing to do your part as a student. cares about the subject and students. provides plenty of opportunities to do well in the class :)
She doesnt spend her time wisely in class. She will give us one simple example and then its nothing like we have to do later. Her tests are crazy hard and have things we've never seen before. Overall, if you had an option to take this class with another teacher I would do that. She isnt helpful in class whatsoever
This class is very well taught. Although I hate calculus, she made the material fairly easy to understand. There is a lot of homework, but the tests usually mirror the problems she shows as examples. She drops your lowest exam score, lowest quiz score, and 6 lowest homework grades. As long as you show up to class and do the homework you'll be fine.
I really liked her as a teacher! She was very helpful, and very kind. She might seem a little quiet or disconnected, but if you go to class, ask questions, and work hard, you'll find she's very funny and really does know a lot about this subject and does care about her students(:
I really liked her! My favorite class this quarter. I hated calculus in high school but she made things very easy to understand. Just go to class and do the HW and you should be good.
Although some people didn't like her, I actually did. I took calc in high school and didn't like it but Deeney made the material easy to understand and if you were confused she would explain it again. There were multiple in class quizzes which weren't too bad as well as homework due ever day in class. Overall I think she was a good teacher!
She is a very nice and funny gal! Very helpful! Just a typical math class. Take notes in class and do the homework and you will be fine. Her grading is very relaxed, she even drops your lowest 6 homework scores and your lowest test score.
Very helpful woman with a good sense of humor. The grading system is super relaxed, and you can tell that the Deeney very much wants you to be successful. I would highly recommend if you're not really a math person and just after the GUR because she makes it fairly easy to understand and to get a decent grade.
Overall good teacher, she is does a great job explaining and always is willing to answer questions. As long as you do the homework and go to class you will do fine on the tests!
Megan was one of the best math teachers I ever had. She is great at explaining a problem in multiple ways. Attendance isn't required but there is daily homework that can be turned in at her office if you miss class. My one problem with her class was that often times she ran out of time and couldn't finish explaining the material for the day.
My first impression of Deeney was that she was going to be a horrible teacher. However, as time progressed she proved that she a good teacher after all. She is very clear with her lectures and really helps when you dont understand something in class. She says she doesnt really give partial credit but she does. Very organized, definite recommend.
She is a fair teacher but sort of dumbs things down a little much. Its an interesting class and she does a pretty good job of teaching it. exams are half take home, half in class. there's a project that is challenging but its a good learning experience. Maybe others teach the class better but Deeney does a pretty good job, no major complaints
Do as well as you can for the first half of the course because when you start in on statistics (chapter 6 or so), the pace is kept at the same rapid pace but the material suddenly gets more difficult. She is very helpful and grades in a way that makes it possible to do very well if you put the time in. I'm so glad to be done with math, though...
Professor Deeney is a very tough grader and expects you to know all the material before you walk into class. She moves along the material very fast and is very shallow on the topics. She needs to slow down somehow to ensure everyone understands what she just covered.
She is an awesome teacher. She doesn't require you to go to class all the time. She drops 6 assignments and your lowest test score. She is understanding and helpful if you actually make the effort and go in if you're having trouble. She makes the material relatable, but does have consistent homework. Overall a nice and good teacher. Would recommend
Professor Deeney is a very strict and hard teacher. She isn't very understanding and her tests are so much harder than any of the reviews and assignments.
She is not very understanding. Her knowledge of math is extensive, but it seemed like she assumed that everyone in the class liked it and knew just as much about it as she does. Not good at explaining things and would come to class late and grumpy sometimes.
Deeney seems like she'd be grumpy all the time, but she's actually pretty chill. I never talked to her outside of class, so I don't know how helpful she would be, but as someone who is awful at math I made it out with a c!
The class is really fast paced. The actual material isn't that hard but somehow she makes the tests and the quizzes way harder then they should be. You don't get any review.
I personally struggle with math classes and was dreading taking this class but she is a very good teacher. She is the best math teacher I have ever had. She really does care about helping students out on problems they don't understand. The tests and quizzes are hard but all the problems on them have been done in class multiple times. Good teacher
Great, passionate teacher. Material is pretty straightforward but actually really useful. She brings in real-world examples often which is really helpful. She is very good at explaining things clearly. The class is organized very well; you know what to expect.
Math isnt my thing. However, Professor Deeney is a pleasant teacher given the subject. If you skip classes you will probably miss out on hearing about quizzes, but she is a fair grader and more than willing to help you out if you go to her office hours. For some reason I am still unsure of, I ended up liking her and her class by the end of it
Favorite professor ever
She is awesome. In class, she is very specific and clear. And funny too! Class is pretty easy.
I hate math but Megan made it easy and clear. She was super helpful at explaining the subject and making sure all the steps made sense. The tests are kind of hard but as long as you study you'll do fine. She drops your lowest test and lowest 6 homework grades which i found to be really helpful. I definitely recomend taking math with her!
Just a general math class, she's nice enough but super boring. Doesn't post grades, you'll find out your grade during the last week of class. Easy unless you skip. Wouldn't take another class from her.
Deeney was a good professor, however, the tests and quizzes are A LOT harder than what you go over in class and what's on the homework. You really need to study and be prepared. The way she calculates the grades in the end definitely helps the students. Tough class, but good teacher especially if you go to office hours.
I'm horrible at math but did great in this class. Teacher did an awesome job of explaining things and helping me to understand the material. I would recommend this for someone who doesn't want to take a hard math class, as the work is easy to follow and she's very understanding that everyone comes from different levels of knowledge.
Deeney is a no nonsense woman. Her lectures are very clear and organized. She is accessible & helpful during office hours. However, she will not empathize with anything going on in your life. Mandatory homework assigned every night but attendance is not required. If you do the work, study and resist the urge to skip class, you can easily get an A.
She is a great instructor. Easy to understand and helpful. I hate math but she had class fun while getting down to business.
Math has never and will never be my forte, but this class was great. It helped that I'd taken a statistics class the year before, because we ended up doing a lot of statistics. Megan was a great professor, too - she made everything somehow make sense, even if it didn't at first.
Dr. Megan Deeney is the professor to get. She may come off a little mean at first, she is actually so sweet and gives all she can for you to succeed. Majority of days she provides handouts with notes and examples on them. Expect to participate among eachother. . Pop quizzes often but they're a super easy grade booster if you attend class each day.
I really enjoyed her class. Her lectures are very informative, so don't skip! I excelled in her class and would definitely recommend her class and future classes with her. Overall an amazing teacher!
Megan Deeney was a great teacher. The class was pretty straight forward, but the homework was definitely easier than the tests. She was funny, played videos, taught effectively and clearly. I enjoyed the class and it wasn't too bad (which is pretty good coming from someone who hates math).
This lady was very egocentric in her lectures. Homework isn't graded, which is nice, but she does not explain things very well, so you will want to do the homework. The class isn't super hard. No real world applications are used in this class, so linear algebra seems useless, making it harder to want to learn. I'd take this class with someone else.
This has been the worst math class I've ever taken, and it's largely due to Megan's ineffective pedagogy. She never related linear algebra to any of its applications. She gives convoluted explanations, and seems to grade solely on whether a test question was correct, not if you had the right form and took the right steps before making a mistake.
Lectures are easy to follow along with. She has hand outs that you work on in class. Homework is always optional. Your grade is based only on the grades of 5 quizzes and 3 tests so you better study up. She usually has good office hours and is available for after class help.
Starts out easy but builds on concepts with increasing difficulty. She gives hand outs and writes notes on the board straight from text which wastes time. Also is a big fan of T/F questions that rely on your understanding. Study hard from the beginning or else get you'll feel lost pretty quick. Overall she's an ok prof.
I've never been great at math, but the way she teaches this class is very effective and the math actually has real-life applications! There is no late work or make-ups but the class is very enjoyable, I actually look forward to it. Prof. Deeney is intimidating at first but is highly respected, is a great professor and I would recommend her class.
Dr. Deeney is a very good prof. She has notes and handouts everyday that really help with the homework. There is homework every night and sometimes it does take a few hours to do. I really respected her and she does a great job with helping students if they are confused.
She seems kind of sassy at first, but that really works to her advantage. She is extremely understanding and works with you before and after class to make sure you understand the material.
Really good professor to start off Uni off with, imo. She was witty and tried her best to make sure people understood the material. And she had cute anecdotes and videos to go with the material. I was really glad I signed up.
Deeney may be the one for you if you like the kind of teacher that makes class materials extraordinarily challenging and difficult. She just likes to make things really tough and grade harshly. If you are confident that you will still like her as a teacher after taking her class, go ahead. To me, she made this class the worst math I've ever taken.
Megan is an amazing professor. She gives 'fill in the blank' notesheets for you to work with during her lessons that list core definitions and properties and so on for each topic. I adored them during homework and exam prep. She cares about student learning and focuses on conceptual understanding as well as practical problem-solving.
Megan Deeney is the best professor I have ever had at Western, and this is for 3 reasons: 1. Lecture outlines. Deeney basically gives you perfect notes. 2. Handouts. Don't understand a concept? You will work on a sample problem in groups and go over every concept in class. Incredibly Useful 3. Passion. Megan Deeney clearly cares about her classes
Pretty good course, made introductory mathematics as interesting as it can be made
She cool
Math 107 is one of the easiest math classes there is and she makes everything super clear. Shes really nice and says some funny things throughout class.
She's a nice enough professor and the material isn't too difficult. However, there is homework assigned every single night and you have to go to class to turn it in. Also, homework is graded on whether or not you got the problems correct, not whether or not you did them. If you have to take a math, she's fine.
I don't have any love for math, but this professor was great and clear in her teachings!
Dr. Deeney was the best math teacher Ive ever taken. She has very clear grading criteria and you will always know what is expected of you for tests. While I was a little intimidated at by her at first, she is actually very humorous and is well respected by her students. Super knowledgeable in the subject and will gladly answer any questions.
Dr. Deeney gave great examples and was very helpful during lectures. You will have homework every night but her assignments and practice problems are very helpful when it's time to take tests. Her tests were somewhat easy if you look at her review questions and hand outs. She can be stern but tries to stay upbeat and make jokes.
Dr. Deeney is an excellent math professor. She was always very clear and helpful. She answered questions every day on the homework from the previous day. I would say I had a little more experience in math than some of the other students but even if math isn't your best subject Dr. Deeney is a very solid teacher.
Deeney is such a caring and wonderful professor. Truly one of the best professors I've had. homework every night, lowest 6 scores are dropped 4 exams, lowest score dropped. also first 10-15 minuets of class are always dedicated to a couple homework questions from the previous nights homework. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Megan is very up-front and clear about what she needs you to know to pass the class. She's extremely compassionate and truly cares whether you're learning. Her study sheets are extremely helpful, the material can be difficult to grasp if you don't get the pieces in the right order.
Dr. Deeney is one of the best math teachers I've ever had. She runs her class in a simple fashion where you're able to ask questions at any time and expect to receive a clear and understandable answer. There is homework everyday but she hand picks the problems you'll need and she also condenses the chapters in the textbooks onto daily worksheets.
Probably one of the best math classes Ive ever had. She explains everything precisely and in an easy to understand way. Every class she has a work sheet that she does in the class (math 107) and this was extremely helpful. Megan is also funny and made going to class not a chore. Lowest 6 homeworks and 1 test are dropped. Take Megan Deeney!
Nice person, just not a good teacher. She makes things far more complicated than they need to be and sometimes puts problems on the tests that seem to be meant to trick and confuse students. Overall a mediocre teacher and youll most likely be frustrated in her MATH 157 class even if you have decent math skills.
Megan makes math super straight forward and organized. I mean, it's still math, but she knows what she is talking about/is very professional. I love that she gives out handouts every day to simplify taking notes/doing example probs. Def a Virgo in the best way possible
Handed out worksheets instead of requiring notes which was very helpful
Avoid taking business calculus with her its long grueling and Ive heard better things about just about every other 157 professor.
She is a good teacher and will get you through what you need to know. She moves fast, but that's because there is a lot to cover. She provides helpful worksheets so you can follow along, studying outside class is crucial. I enjoyed the class and I think she does a good job at explaining things.
By far my favorite professor. Teaches through fill in the blank worksheets, so you always have the notes you need. Super clear and easy tests, usually wont ask you to simplify. Don't be afraid of her "you need to know algebra like your own name" talk, you will be fine. Love her and wish I could take from her again!
Dr. Deeney is amazing. She prepares great examples with videos and footage that relates to topics. She teaches very thorough and makes sure everyone gets the topic. class goes by fast! I just don't like how often we have homework, though it's awesome she gives us 6 free passes. Tests are fair. Overall great class.
Her lecture wasn't too helpful. But it is good that she doesn't take attendance. I rather spend the time studying myself and just stop by everyday to turn in the homework.
Dr Deeney is the best 157 prof I've come across and WWU. Calc is hard but she does a good job of getting everyone through it. Homework to completion every night is a must. She curves tests if they're really bad. We even got a sheet of notes for the final! Overall a very fair and helpful math prof.
Dr. Deeney is super nice and I 100% recommend her. She gives handouts out at the beginning of class of notes which is super helpful. While she does assign homework every class, it is super helpful and she only grades homework on a few select problems. She makes math easy to understand and I would definitely take another class of hers.
Megan is a really nice woman and she just wants everyone to succeed in her class, she used worksheets which helped understanding the topics and homework. drops 6 lowest ( or missed) homework assignments and lowest test grade, very fun and friendly.
Uses a lot of handouts to teach the material. You can definitely get away with never using the book. Doesnt give out weekly hw and instead focuses on a couple projects. Passionate about the subject and is able to answer any obscure question you might have.
*TAKEN DURING COVID 19 ONLINE* I am not the best at math and the thought of taking math online was crazybut this class really helped me understand. I tested into this class after transferring and I was terrified because the highest math I had take was Geometry. Safe to say if you go to lecture, take notes and do the homework you will be okay!!!
I loved her! I think she actually did a very good job teaching and providing support on how to do better in the class. Genuinely cares for her students. She does grade a little tougher so just making to show every single step in your work. She assigns book work, but its not graded. I didnt buy a textbook and I did fine.
Take someone else if you can
Had for online math 157 online fall 2020. Kinda a lot of math homework but that is normal. The wamap homework is like the quizzes so if you have your notes from the homework you're able to use them too which they are very helpful. Drops one quiz, homework takes around 1-2hrs which is normal. Highly recommend.
Professor Deeney Is one of the best professors Ive ever had. I only took her class for a GUR and havent taken math since high school and she made it really easy to learn. She cares about your learning and will help you succeed in her class!
I have never met a teacher who has wanted her students to pass her class the least while I took this class for a pass fail after the second quiz didn't cover anything that we studied in class or on wamap hws or book hws dojt bother emailing her she also accused many of my classes mates of cheating when they didn't stay clear
Dr. Deeney is OUTSTANDING. She's ultra-prepared, entertaining, and engaging. Let's face it: calculus is hard! But even during Covid, she made it fun. If you are willing to go to class and put in some hard work outside class, she'll be there for you with the support, encouragement and guidance to get you through. I can't recommend her enough!
I struggle with math but if you take this class, do the homework and ask questions, you can do it. I always asked a bunch of questions on the homework everyday and she was always extremely helpful and nice
I can't express how great Dr. Deeney is at teaching. She is clear, concise, and very helpful. She provides fill-in-the-blanks handouts that she goes through during lecture times that I found extremely beneficial to understanding what I do and do not need to know. It's not scary to ask questions in her class. Take Dr. Deeney and you won't regret it!
Dr. Deeney was the best of all my professors at adapting to COVID, in my opinion. Her use of the zoom polls and breakout rooms made class fun and made participation matter. Her lectures are fun and engaging, and she made the material easy to digest. A solid elective choice! Very practical, and a good use of linear algebra.
Basically recites the textbook. Avoid at all costs. Doesn't ever bother to explain any applications of linear algebra, and doesn't explain anything in a different way than the textbook. Also, pretty dispassionate about the subject matter.
As someone really bad at math: Dr. Deeney explains everything in a clear way + w/ lots of examples. She runs a great, useful class with pre-made handouts, amusing stories, and is clearly very caring about her students and the subject. Homework every night but just try your best/ask questions and you'll definitely pass.
She is not a good teacher. She needs to reevaluate her teaching skills. I did not learn anything in that class unless I went to the tutoring center. For example, every day, we have the beginning of class to go over homework, and she barely goes over the problems we want help with. She skims every question we have, I do NOT recommend her at all.
This teacher was amazing :) As someone who doesnt do to well in math, this was the first math class I have actually enjoyed. The teacher really does care about you learning and understanding everything. Make sure to learn whats on the homework and you will do great in class. Its easy if you make it :)
She's a great prof with a lot of expertise, but there is hw every night. It was manageable for me because she drops six at the end of the quarter. It got tiring after awhile but it meant that I was well practiced. You can't turn in stuff online and she doesn't take late work so just show up and you'll pass
Best math teacher ever. She makes calculus easy to understand, and is great at what she does. She seems intimidating at first, but if you interact with her in class- you will soon find that she is absolutely hilarious and cares about her students. The class itself is a lot of work, but if you do all the homework and come to class you will pass!
Loved her!
Deeney is a great professor, especially for MCS 335/435. Knowledgeable about the subject, and lectures are extremely valuable to the point of the text not being necessary (though I would recommend). Grade is based on three tests, which need to be studied for. Class is difficult in this way. Homework and a Project make up the rest. Mostly Lin-Alg.
Quick warning about this class: the tests do not match what you learn in class. The first test of the quarter, everybody did not great on it and she refused to curve it so every bodies grade had to suffer because she doesn't like curving things. The lectures were ok and easy to understand but the tests were like a foreign language.
Dr. Deeney is really chill and a great instructor. It says "attendance optional" but you really need to show up, unless you're a prodigy (in which case, why are you taking 107?) MATH 107 is pretty much a math class for people who are bad at math. It focuses entirely on the practical application of math in the real world.
Loved having Deeney this quarter. She gives handouts that cover all the material so you don't even really need the book. She was helpful whenever I needed it, and told us exactly what would be tested on. Exams weren't too bad, she didn't grade harshly, and feedback was always useful. Very friendly as well. Would take again for sure.
Mrs Deeney cares about her students success and her class is easy to understand if you actually go. I recomend attending class beacuse she adds extra credit questions to the tests (only 3 tests) that she tells you in class. If you do the extra credit textbook assignments you will understand the material no problem. Great teacher !!!
Megan Deeney is awesome! She's smart, caring, friendly, and knows a lot about Math. Her classes can get difficult at times but she's definitely there to help you, and she wants you to do the best you can. She's great at presenting her information during her lectures, and helps her students understand the material better!
She is my all time favorite professor. She loves what she does and is very educated. Her class is very straight forward, she does give homework every day but in my opinion I love it. I get to practice what we learn and it helps me to do better on tests. If I had to take another math course I 100% would choose her again.
My biggest issue with this course was that I could do the homework/study guides with 100% accuracy the night before an exam (HOURS worth of studying), and still walk away with a 65% score. That's enough for me to be frustrated with the grading criteria and lack of prep. Excessive EXTRA credit work to get a decent grade for the course. Not a fan.
Dr. Deeney was overall a great professor. She explained everything in a way that was easy to understand, and was super helpful anytime anyone had questions. She released practice problems before the tests and it's clear she wants her students to succeed.
Prof Deeney is the best math teacher ever. I struggled with math all my life. She made everything easy to understand, the class was well organized, she related the concepts to real life situations, and she taught us financial skills at the same time. This class changed my attitude towards math completely. If you struggle with math take this class.
Go to the tutoring center every single time you have a chance. The WAMAPS are harder than the lectures and homework, so go there for help. Don't do wamaps alone. Homework can take a bit so plan ahead. If lucky you can find a person in Math 108 who can share the course textbook and download it for free. One Math 108 professor does the pdf.
She was very kind and very accessible! Not too hard of a class, but can be a little challenging if you aren't awesome at math.
Grading system was super bad and felt inaccurate to most people in class. Easy material but 107 is not worth taking. Good with emails though but in general just a boring class
I'm not great at math so this class was hard for me. She's not the worst teacher, she's nice but honestly not the very best at teaching. Attendance is needed for ws, and she explains only the optional homework if you ask but refuses to explain the WAMAPs which are a lot harder than the book hw which makes it super hard to practice outside of class.
There's optional extra credit homework but it helps soooo much with understanding, you should just do it. Deeney is really chill and nice and she got a lil humor, too. Probably one of the best math professors you could get here. She explains things really well but theres a lot to go over so it goes kind of fast. Textbook is mandatory but accessible
She offers two different types of homework, one graded and one for paticipation and extra credit. I would recommend doing the extra credit homework because its super helpful and the extra credit can bump your grade up. Attendence isn't required however it is really helpful to go to class.
I went to class every day, did all of the extra credit/homework, and basically did everything that I could and I still received a C+. This class was quite confusing+she never provided study guides, and her teaching style wasn't conducive to learning at all. The final exam was what got me in the end because it was cumulative and very difficult.
She rushes through the tough material at the end of class, doesn't make connections with students and is not helpful when you don't understand the homework. Do not miss more than 2 classes per unit. Basically had to teach ourselves how to do things. #KhanAcademy Final test is cumulative :/
Anybody complaining on here that her class was difficult simply didn't put in effort to learn the material. She is very clear in lectures about the subject matter and is available outside of class to talk. Also lots of extra credit. Do the book homework if you're struggling. Only reason I didn't rate her 5 was because the lectures were a bit boring
Deeney is an amazing math professor as long as you are engaged in class and actively seek to learn the material (which I hope you'd be doing in a math class). Deeney is a very sweet and soft spoken lady and will gladly help you with any questions you may have the on material she expects you to do your work which only takes 30-40 mins a day
I really enjoyed her as a teacher, even as someone who doesn't enjoy math. She is super approachable and makes class interesting while also informing you on the topics. Make sure you do book homework, even though they are not mandatory. I would have been lost in the course without them.
Professor Deeney is hit-or-miss - the material can be tough, but she's helpful if you engage. Attend every class, use the free textbook, and try unstuck study ai and other study tools. With effort, you can do well in this class.
This class was interesting and had a reasonable workload. I really like Prof. Deeney's lecture style. She hands out a note sheet with lots of blanks and we go along with her and fill out answers. Well-paced, not too many surprises.
As a non-math person, she makes the class pretty easy to understand. She gives out notes sheets that we fill in as we go through class which at least I like since I don't always know what to write down. Not too hard of a class and you can get extra credit at the end
Prof Deeney's lectures were more confusing than helpful, which made me not want to attend them. The textbook wasn't any better, and the tutoring center basically taught me everything. She graded my exams very harshly and docked points for absurd, inconsequential mistakes. I can tell she means well, but she seems very out of touch with her students.
Excellent math professor. You won't need an electronic device in class besides a calculator. She gives a worksheet every class and makes it easy to follow through! There is book HW a lot, and it's extra credit, but it will really help you study for the test. If you're not a math person like me, it may be tough, but you will still learn new things!
Extra credit is such bs. It's so much work for 2 points max. Other than that, she's really awesome. Genuinely made math understandable. I dislike how she did her tests though. She's honestly super sweet and really knowledgeable.
Despite her lectures not being mandatory I strongly suggest going to them! Her lectures made content understandable and I always did better on assignments after attending. I didn't complete the extra credit but I wish I had because it was an easy way to get an extra two points her class.
She was always straightforward about expectations and was very understanding of situations as they happened. If I took time off for a medical or family emergency she was helpful to get me on track. She was mindful of all accomodations with the DAC as well.
As someone with no prior knowledge of the type of math taught in this course, I found the class hard. She teaches this class as if it is a review. Average test grades were about 68-70% (and she thought this was good?!). The class pace was quite fast with only one day on some sections. I would not recommend this professor.
Dr. Deeney is the most accommodating professor I have had. She gives up to 2% overall grade boost if you do at least 80% optional homework and drops the lowest Quest and the lowest 6 required homeworks. I enjoyed the format of the class, and I thought she taught it well. Make sure your algebra/pre-calc skills are solid before taking this class.
Amazing teacher, she makes this class easy for someone who is really not good at math. She's quite accommodating and kind.
It took me a couple weeks to really warm up to her, but I ended up loving her teaching style. Attendance isn't mandatory, but I'd highly recommend going to every class. There are 5 quests (quiz/test), but one gets dropped and your 6 lowest HW scores get dropped. She offers EC hw (do them!) to get up to a 2% boost on your final grade.
What a girl-queen, after already failing Math157 with Tim, Deeney made calculus enjoyable and easy. I highly recommend doing the extra credit homework assignments because they prepare you for the quests and exams even though they are optional. She gives out worksheets every class and works through the problems together. I did not stress this class.
Dr. Deeney is excellent! Her lectures and handouts were way more helpful than the textbook readings. All you have to do to pass this class is to show up and ask questions.
Absolutely the best math teacher/prof I have ever had. Each class she gives a handout that you work through and is super helpful on the homework/quests. The extra credit book hw policy is honestly pretty lame as far as extra credit goes, but doing the book assignments are super helpful for understanding the material. Very hw heavy but worth it.
If I could rate this professor a 0, I would. This teacher is a prime example for why the American education system is one of the worst in the world. Maybe she would be better at teaching high school or grade school, but college is beyond her understanding.
I took her class last quarter and I would recommend all future students to avoid her classes with extreme caution. Unless you like being treated like a child, then of course go ahead.
Shes very kind, I would take one of her classes again if it wasnt math
Megan Deeney is very kind and approachable. However, I always struggle with math but her methods didn't help me particularly. She does give worksheets to fill out as notes and that's helpful, but it's fast paced and the only way to truly learn is to do the book homework, it's difficult but CRUCIAL.
Wouldn't recommend, but kind. Grades harshly on tests. She gives no credit if you make a minor mistake. We have to complete 80% of our homework and we earn two points extra credits which doesn't help our overall grade. she gave us a review/study guide for our second test of the quarter and it had nothing to do with the test. Average was a 62%.
