This "teacher" is awful. Her tests are ridiculous and the questions barely correlate with what you study in the class. DO NOT take this class- it is an essential to biology course not a 5th year graduate biology program, but that is how she grades and teaches. I can't say anything good about her. I spent 10 hrs studying for her test and got a 25%
Dr. Pease tries to keep things interesting/exciting & uses real life examples to relate to what we are learning(and comes off as a bit wacky in the process). You do have to study a lot if you aren't already knowledgeable in Bio (but you would in any Bio class)and her tests are on the covered material. She also posts several study guides online.
She is probably one of the worst teachers I have ever had. She makes everything confusing and the tests are very hard. I would study for many hours but it didn't mean anything. She is psycho and thinks she is really funny. I recommend not taking this teacher.
she is definitely a type A personality. she is used to things being done a certain way and expects you to comply. She knows her stuff and the class is enjoyable but its not easy.
I loved having Dr. Pease for bio 103. It's nice to have a professor who really loves what she is teaching. Her class is not a blow off class by any means, you need to study and pay attention is class. She really clarifies the text book in her lectures and she does a lot of in class activities to help you learn the concepts. Loved this class!
This class was very hard, if you are not planning on attending a major university, dont take her class. For those of u that just need it to get into a program dont take it. Honestly who gives two test a week before the final. What she gives u to study does not help u on the test.
She is very willing to help if you go to her office hours or even ask after class. Attend class every day and don't be late (or she wont accept you lab report).
i was in her summer 3 week course and she was amazing.i really learned alot and she was very willing to help and give advice. her exams were not that hard and her homework, while time consuming was very helpful! she did a great job fitting a 16 week course into 11 days!
She was very energetic and excited about what she was teaching. If you pay attention to her and do the homework, you should have no trouble getting through the class. She is willing to make time to help you, and even took time to help us completely redesign a group project a week before it was due!
I had Dr. Pease for BIO 103 and 104 during the summer. She really enjoys what she does and she made biology interesting for me. Even though Biology is one of my worst subjects, I still got an A for both classes. Also, she was really on top of posting grades right away. I was able to see my exam grades almost right away after class.
Great Professor. She loves what she does and she prepares for every class and aims to make it interesting. Always has fun ways to learn the material and is extremely helpful. The homework is really time consuming, though, and while it helps, it does feel like a lot of busy work.
Dr. Pease really loves what she does but I had a really hard time understanding her. The way she lectures is kind of all over the place. I was never quite sure what she wanted us to know or what she was just telling us for fun. I'm an art student and not very science minded so we just don't have the same thought processes. Tests are kind of hard.
Lectures are all over the place & hard to understand. Unclear notes. Makes you unsure of what you're supposed to know. Lots of in-class activities. Tests are hard. Not a difficult class to pass but you'll be teaching yourself if you want an A.
Best professor I've ever had. She enjoys teaching and it shows. Her in class exercises helped me learn the material more easily than I would have if she had just stood up there and lectured all day.
Dr. Pease is not a teacher that I would recommend to anybody. She is very scatterbrained and half of the time the class corrected her in her lectures because she got things wrong. Tests are hard. She makes you do in class activities that seem very childish. I felt like I was in grade school again with all of the drawings and games we did.
She assigns at least three hours worth of homework (two online assignments and at least 50+ vocab words) and gives you only two days to do it. Her lectures are all over the place making quizzes, tests, and homework more difficult. If you go in to get help, she acts irritated. Not a good teacher, can't say anything positive.
Very passionate about what she teaches and very inspiring but not very clear sometimes.
class was hard! but i guess all science classes are hard. she's nice and very compassionate towards her students. when you think of a college class, this is definitely a class class. be prepared to work! this was prepared me for microbiology. i did not care for the group activities with the whiteboards. good luck
She is a wonderful teacher and very passionate about what she teaches! She can sometimes be all over the place but once you understand her teaching style you will be good. She is also willing to take time outside of class and help if needed. I would reccomend her and take her again if I really needed another Bio class!
Dr. Pease is a great teacher, at times what she is talking about is confussing but she is always willing to help. There are only two tests that is worth like 45% of your grade with lots of assignments (one for each class) which can be really tough. You will learn a lot from her but expect to have to show up to class, do the work, and take the notes
I'm currently taking intro to evolution and love her! She's lively and encouraging. If she can't answer a question she'll tell you exactly what to do to find the answer. She lets you have a half sheet of paper in exams and offers a study guide which you can access the whole semester. There are opportunities for extra cred too. Highly recommend her!
Dr. Pease is a great professor! She really knows her stuff, but she is a tough grader and the tests can be super hard. You HAVE to do every assignment completely to really get a good grade in her class. Overall I would definitely choose her as a teacher again.
She assigns a bunch of vocabulary for this class. It is just busy work but after completing them you really do have a better grasp on the ideas and topics. Also required is the McGraw Hill Connect which was lame (an extra $60) but it also helped a little bit to understand the topics. Some say she's spacy but I liked her teaching style.
She's great at teaching Bio and definitely knows what she is talking about. She's not very good at being helpful when you ask questions. She'll either answer your question with another question until you figure it out or she'll expect you to already know it.
Dr. Pease is probably the worst professor I had at RVC. She refuses to round grades, grades ridiculously hard for no good reason and was just rude. I am so thrilled to be done with her class! I would never ever recommend her to anyone I know. This is a classic case of takes her job wayyyy too seriously!
Easy to take in
AMAZING TEACHER! A little quirky, but is truly passionate about science and is fun and entertaining. Always makes things interesting. Probably my favorite class at RVC so far. Super quick to post grades on eagle, and has more than just office hours available for questions or help. I will try to take any future bio class with her!
Science isn't my strong suit, but she made it easy to understand. High quality professor that cares about her students. Multiple extra credit opportunities. Lectures were important to ensuring the content was understood.
Dr. Pease isa great professor! I love her labs. I would take her again.
I missed a week of class and she was very helpful when I got back. Very down to earth and very caring. If I ever had any questions, she would always take as much time as I needed to answer. Honestly my favorite class of the semester. She's super funny, and also quirky, but I found I really enjoyed that about her.
She is kinda goofy and immature. She tries to encourage involvement, but she is a bit scattered in her thoughts and give misinformation. Make sure you can learn on your own and look up info outside the book required. It is a commercialized bio book that is generic in application. Test will cover topics that get minimal attention in lecture and text
Very wonderful! Makes class enjoyable and connects well with students! Love her!
She was very energetic and really into bio, but she could be a bit confusing sometimes. Test are pretty hard.
I actually enjoyed taking BIO 103 with Dr. Pease. She makes the lecture interesting. I mean, yes it is a hard class, but it is Biology! I visited her during her office hours for help and she was always willing to explain things, which really helped me. Read, participate in class, and study! That is all you need to pass the class with an A or B
I'm in her class for Bio 113. She's passionate about her subject which makes lecture interesting but when it comes to the labs they are so confusing. We have a lab manual we're supposed to use but she doesn't explain anything about how to do the labs and doesn't specify what she wants on the lab reports. This class is shooting in the dark. Beware.
She basically refuses to give you a straight answer to any questions in labs. Her class has enough work for like 2 classes at least. There's anything from 2-8 assignments due each monday. The worksheets for studying are really hard to find answers for and the labs are confusing. She's a very unorganized teacher you never have enough lab time.
I do not recommend her unless you can do it on your own & enjoy bio. She doesn't give a straight answer to your question. I understand it is a lab and we need to get out on time but she gets annoyed when you ask questions + manages to be rude with a nice tone of voice. It is possible to get an A, show up and give a lot of detail in your lab report.
I'm surprised to see Dr Pease has gotten so many negative reviews because I thought she was fantastic. She's very clear on what she expects you to know and none of the homework is difficult. She loves her field and it shows when she gives lectures. She is witty and it made class much more fun. I would definitely take her again if I could!
I'm also surprised to see that Dr. Pease has the negative reviews she does. She may demand a lot but it's because she ultimately wants us to succeed as academics and professionals. She genuinely cares about our learning, is passionate about what she does, is fun, and will go above and beyond for us if we need her to. You really can't ask for more.
I had a 3 hour class and lab with Dr. Pease and she was nothing but pleasant. I am surprised at her ratings. She is very knowledgeable and passionate in everything she does. I enjoyed her class and I wasn't even a science or bio major. I would defiantly take her classes again if I could! Do the labs, listen and learn.
She knew what she was teaching but taught it like we were 9, though she did explain things very well. Tried to be funny but was obnoxious. Was very controlling, couldn't even work on bio 103 hw in her class, or leave til your whole lab report was filled out. Take her if you struggle in bio or if you want real passion to the point of annoying.
Lectures are heavy. I strongly recommend printing out power points. Bring 3 chapters at a time. She can cover 3 in a 3 hour class. She offers extra credit, use it. I also recorder her lectures. Her test are killer. She expects you to apply what you know not just simply regurgitate the information. Her office hours are hard to reach if you work.
Professor Pease is very nice and approachable. She is willing to answer any questions you may have. Her lectures cover the material well. Attendance is mandatory, so showing up and completing your labs is essential to getting a good grade. As long as you pay attention and complete all the work, you should pass.
Professor Pease was quirky and interesting. I enjoyed the experiments and her course expectations were easy to follow. The lab reports take some effort. As long as you do a bit of prep before and review after class, you'll be fine. If there were any questions, she was happy to discuss during her office hours. I recommend taking 103 in conjuction.
Dr. Pease is incredibly passionate about her field. She incorporates newly published research into her lectures to make them more relevant, gives engaging lectures that are easy to understand, and makes herself extremely available to answer questions and re-explain material. I always looked forward to her class!
Pease is quirky in her lectures, but she proves her credibility every time. She is happy to answer questions either after class or via email. Ask questions because she loves class engagement and the more questions means more time discussing concepts for her and the class. She used Eagle and a separate text software. Must Must Must show up.
I had Professor Pease for the biology lab while I had the lecture portion with another professor, and she still made sure we understood everything happening in both classes. There was homework after every lab, but each lab report had enough information so that the book wasn't needed. I'm terrible at science, but she helped me enjoy it.
Her tests are based on her lectures. This is an advantage because her lectures are very clear and broken down on hard concepts. She's very accessible and loves what she does. She's also funny and incorporates that into the lesson. She also throws in fun facts here and there to give our brains a break. I highly recommend her.
Her lectures are long and have a lot of material but she goes over it well. There was only two tests (midterm and final), so they had a lot of material and were stressful. Homework is an important part of your grade, and she grades it kind of harshly, so you must try really hard to keep a good grade in homework.
it was a lot of fun to take BIO 113 with Dr Pease she was very passionate about the class. Class was mon&wed 3hr lecture so it was very heavey lectures but she gave us breaks and would spend lots of time answering any of our questions relating to the class. She is very knowledgealbe on everything we covered and did a great job tying it all together
Teaches with passion and makes every class interesting and brings in visuals to aid the students in learning. She answers every question with no judgement so students don't feel embarrassed to ask something during the lecture. While attendance isn't mandatory, classes are interesting and worth going to in order to get the optimal learning experience
One thing I liked about Professor Pease is that she writes her lectures on the board instead of using a powerpoint. This is nice for students who write their notes down because it gives them time to do so. There's plenty of worksheets and quizzes but if you take good notes and pay attention it's all pretty simple.
Dr. Pease is a phenomenal professor! Her Plants and Society class is very fun and informative. It's 3 hours long, 2 days a week, lots of work, but in the end, I learned a lot and enjoyed this class. Pease is very passionate and knows her plants well and always brings in interesting, new material.
She is an ok teacher. She goes over the material a lot ,but her notes are super messy and are hard to study. She is not clear in answers and/or instructions. If you have no concept of biology at all before taking this class i dont recommend taking her.
This class ended up being nothing like I expected. She give out alot of homework which can be though if taking a full schedule, and you are expected to grow a plant outside of class which can be a pain keeping it alive. There are about 7 Exams and alot of online quizzes. This is definitely not the class to take if you are just looking for a credit.
Bio 113 was a really fun class and I learned a lot! Professor Pease is an engaging lecturer and has so much knowledge to share with her students. Class is 2hours & 40min twice a week. However, since so much lecture material (as well as a portion of a lab) is covered every class period, attendance is necessary to succeed in this class.
Professor Pease is a great teacher! Her lectures are very important to attend because she bases her tests off the notes. I thought her class was moderately easy for a science class, I would recommend her to anyone.
One of the best professors that I ever had. She genuinely cares about students and wants you to succeed. She offers multiple extra credit opportunities and will do a quick review before every test if you ask. She also makes lectures interesting. If you put in the work you can definitely get a good grade in this class.
Good professor, lots of notes, can print lecture slides before class but still need to be in class to make sense of the slides. 7 exams, final is cumulative.
literally worst professor ive had at rvc.
Was very helpful outside of class and helped create visuals for the students to better understand the material. She also provided extra credit to help boost your grade. Would highly recommend!
Terrible professor, especially with someone who has learning disabilities. She was not helpful at all, extremely lecture heavy. Would not recommend her to anyone. By far the worst professor I've had at RVC.
very hard don't take, I felt like I was supposed to have 20 years of biology experience before this class.
She is the worst teacher RVC offers, does not go indepth on some issues but then tests you on indepth knowledge of it, sometimes not even covering a topic she tests you on. It is nice that she writes the lecture on the board but the hand writing is hard to decypher I would not even recomend this teacher to Stephen Hawking if he was alive
Professor Pease was interesting to listen to for lecture, but she kept us until the very last minute (sometimes late), assigned heavy amounts of homework, and often put in-depth questions on the exams that she did not cover in class. It is possible to get an A in her class, but you would have to designate a lot of time towards that class alone.
She gives lots of work and adds to that amount. There was 2-3 homework sheets, 3-6 quizzes from 10 -20 questions online, lab reports, and Journal due every week along with7 exams. She lectures the whole Class except for the last 20 minutes which is for lab. Lots notes that are not as detailed as her exams.
Dr. Pease is a very smart and kind person who cares about the success of her students. Her class is very work heavy, which you need to keep up with if you want to do well. The class only has two major unweighted tests, a midterm and a final that determine half of your grade. No prerequisites, but you should come in with a basiv knowledge of biology
If you're passionate about science, take Dr. Pease. She assigns a lot of quizzes, there are a lot of exams, and she moves rather quickly. However, these all prepare you and help you get the grade you want. She explains everything thoroughly and there are never "gotcha" questions on her tests. I would take her again without a doubt!
She has a kind and bubbly personality, and she is almost always available after class. Her class is very lecture heavy. However, she does have many fun visuals to help understand her lectures. There are a lot of online quizzes, but they prepare you for the tests. She also provided extra credit assignments. Overall, I would highly recommend.
Not helpful at all. Talks to you like you already have a degree in bio which is difficult if you are learning. Avoid this teacher I wanted to drop the class just so I didnt have to deal with her. Everything I have learned is thanks to you tube and google.
Prof. Pease gives great lectures and clearly communicates what you do and don't need to know for the exams. Attendance isn't mandatory but I highly recommend attending every class
This class is very fun, the labs and her lectures are very interesting. Pease has a fun personality and is very open to help. You also get to grow a plant which is a fun, don't be afraid if they die she will give you more seeds. The only struggle I had is that her lectures are long and to discuss exams or quizzes you have to go to her office hours.
She had very long lectures that were accompanied by notes slides. I liked to complete the notes ahead of time so I could pay attention better in class. She gives great examples to help tie concepts together, and offers fun activities every once in a while. Shell truly do anything to help you learn the material and pass the class.
Her lectures are completely based on the slides. Shes kind of strange and quirky, but her class wasnt dreadful. She is very passionate about a few topics covered in class.
She is one of my favorite teachers I have ever had. The lectures were engaging and her big personality helped so much! She takes into account all of the different learning styles and does an amazing job at teaching. I loved that she always made sure we knew where to find her whether it was to talk about school or just life.
Lots of tests taken in person and quizzes given online. BIO 103 was not a joke and you need to study the material given. All lectures are given from slides but you will barely have to look at the book. She talks fast but is able to break down complicated topics like photosynthesis. Hard course but a great instructor.
Follow her lectures and slides (I attended online but would absolutely take in person!) she gives extra credit for little snips from both. She is extremely easy to get ahold of as well as making sure you understand fully. Very test heavy but also makes it enjoyable to learn. Would absolutely take her classes again!
Like any of the sciences, Pease's BIO 103 has a lot of detailed information you need to memorize if you want to understand the homework. If you take her, my best tip would be to make Quizlet flashcards from her lecture slides. Slides=test. She explains the complexities of biology with a lot of clever metaphors and I love her quirky personality!
Pease is very informed and passionate about what she teaches and you can feel it. The course is structured in the best way to tie together all units by the end of the semester so as long as you maintain those connections it's an easier bio class to pass. Overall Pease is approachable, experienced, and gives very engaging lecture presentations.
If you really want to about biology, take a course with Dr. Pease. Critical thinking is a must in her class, so simple memorization will not be enough. You need to be willing to put in the work, but you can be sure you will be prepped for higher level courses. Very clear about what will be on exams, and some assgns were a lot of fun. I recommend!
Megan Pease absolutely stole my heart with her immaculate teachings of biology, the material is interesting for anyone nerdy about plants and the natural world, Mrs Pease is also very passionate about the material and honestly just and interesting to talk to. she's an inspiration and truly cares about her students and their well being 10/10 Prof
I went into this class heavily prepared to take on the course. Before class had even begun she had assigned us to read Chapter 11 (which I did). I began coming into her office hours for extra help, and it was even more unclear than before. There is no study guide for exams, and she speaks like everyone is a scientist, and she is a very cold person.
Passionate about her field.
Loved her so much, even though I wasn't the best at the quizzes and barely passed, she remains one of my favorite teachers. She's able to handle difficult topics in a light-hearted way, absolutely adored her teaching style.
I loved this class so much that I miss it. Lectures were great & she is a very passionate teacher. There was homework & quizzes online. As long as you don't procrastinate, you'll probably do well. Labs were usually fun & helpful, especially if you have a good group. Exams were somewhat hard, but it really helps to study. Mostly multiple choice.
Lectures align well with tests so attendance is helpful. Works well with students outside of the classroom, all you have to do is reach out. She not only cares about your education but your career as well, cannot commend enough.
A wonderful human being, very caring and passionate about not only her subject but her students as well. This class has quite a bit of course work but it is all very manageable and serves as a grade booster in the end. She explained her topics very effectively and was very effective in applying the subjects to real life.10/10 recommend
I enjoyed this course because she made it enjoyable. You can tell that she's really passionate about what she teaches, and she really wants you to do well in her class, and does the best she can to help you succeed in her class.
Took this BIO 103 class online with lab because of busy schedule outside of school. I wouldn't say it was HARD, but it was a good amount of homework with some of the tests being a little difficult.
Didn't love the teaching style. She kind of just talks at the front of the class while you take notes the entire time. Not the easiest grader either, and I personally feel like tests never had anything to do with the notes. But definitely not the worst, would consider taking again now that I know her teaching/grading style.
Online class. Heavy work very few slides. Work due on Saturdays but don't expect her to be lenient on any due dates because she will not open assignments past their due date no matter how urgent the emergency. Makes online kids reach out to other kids in class to do "group projects" that are heavily overdone and not worth the points.
