Dr. Sholar is the best, my favorite professor at Loyola so far. Her lectures are clear, she's a fair essay and exam grader. If you pay attention and study you'll be just fine. Office hours are helpful, she gives great advice and really cares about her students.

The most difficult and least enjoyable class I've taken. Exams are all short answer questions and she expects a level of detail that is not possible within time constraints, resulting in unfair grading. She also assigned an appalling pro-colonizer reading for class and simply never addressed the implications of the article. Avoid at all costs.

I've heard great things about Dr. Sholar from past students, not really sure what happened fall 2022. I enjoyed this class but the stakes are definitely higher than her COVID classes. 2 papers, 2 exams, 1 group project. Vague feedback on group project & hard grader. Exams were brain-dumping mini essays, crunched for time. Very memorization-based.

I'm not sure why there's so much dislike for her on here, because she is truly a great professor. Her lectures are interesting and engaging and she makes the material easy to digest. If you participate and pay attention in lecture, you will be absolutely fine when it comes to the exams. They are content heavy but if you study they are pretty easy.

Dr. Sholars class is very engaging, interesting and easy to follow. Attendance is not graded, but by not coming to class you will do poorly on the exams. If you go to class and review the material you will do fine on the exams. She is also very accessible to meet and talk about class work and overall just a very lovely lady. 10/10.

Dr. Sholar is my favorite professor. She's extremely passionate, helpful, and understanding. You have to take a lot of handwritten notes but the material is very relevant an engaging. Her exams are not easy but if you attend class and do the readings and take notes you will do fine.

Dr. Sholar is super nice and a great person to talk to, very knowledgable and funny. Be prepared to take notes on your own, there's usually only pictures on her slides and she just talks. Come to class and study or you WILL fail tests. Not too bad of a grader and she can help you with papers if you ask. The best choice for HONR 203!

Dr. Sholar is amazing! She is so caring and always willing to help. Show up and take good notes. I would rewrite my notes and study the main concepts for exams and it turned out just fine. Attend office hours for papers and she will point you in the right direction. Skim the readings for the main ideas. She makes the entire honors program worth it!

Dr. Sholar was amazing! Be prepared to take a lot of notes (her slides only have pictures on them) but the content is so interesting and her lectures are amazing. Tests are definitely a time crunch (~ten short answer questions) but it's basically just that, a research paper, and a group project for the grade, and she's available for help!

This was my second class with Dr. Sholar and she really is one of my favorite professors. You can tell that she truly loves teaching. Her lectures are never boring and I always leave class feeling like I learned a lot. She's a fair grader. Don't cram for the exams and don't procrastinate on papers and you'll be fine.

Prof. Sholar is a really sweet and understanding woman. However, her grading criteria is a little bit vague. Also, the exams are all written. Prepare to write 9 short responses in only 50 minutes. So, it is easy to lose points on these. Try not to miss class either as the exams use this information. Take detailed notes.

Her lectures are some of the most engaging in the university in my experience. Tests are definitely time crunches but by the second one you get more used to it. She leaves a lot of comments on papers but the criteria are clear and if you follow them you will be fine. Insanely quick to return grades, and is understanding about extensions. Loved her!

Absolute favorite prof at Loyola so far! Beyond kind, caring, and knowledgeable. Such a reasonable grader on essays and gives great feedback. Offers lots of extra credit and the 3 exams were 9 written response questions which were always straightforward if you pay attention and read the readings. Lectures were always fun and interesting. This is an amazing class, and Dr Sholar is an amazing professor, BUT the exams are difficult. We have a lot to answer in a very short period of time, resulting in a lot of details getting lost in translation and points being lost. But she is an amazing professor and is very caring. Just get ready to write for her exams!

The written portions of the exams were the hardest, but she gives written feedback on each one. Discussions during class were highly enjoyable.
