Professor Tomei-Jameson gives a pretty casual learning environment. She would rather to be called "Megan" than Mrs. Tomei-Jameson or Professor, although none of us have actually followed that yet. Super clear on objectives, uses an advanced system where we receive assignments on an app called Reminder. Speeches are fairly comfortable to do.
I love her! There is homework but it's truly to your benefit. She uses many visuals (videos, Prezi presentations)& has you watch these outside of class & answer some questions or create a part of your speech outline using the material she gave you. 1010, the "easiness" rating is because you do have to learn and grow, but she's not a drill sergeant
Great teacher, extremely clear and helpful. You don't need a textbook whatsoever, but do have to watch her online lectures (anywhere from 10-30 minutes long). She's really cool about grading speeches, since most of the points are based on your outline and there's almost no penalty for reading straight from your outline (which everyone did)
She is really a great professor! She is good at her job and makes class a pleasure. I wish she taught other classes. The midterm was easy if you study I got a 88. The final was a take home essay. There is homework that is important, the speeches and outlines are not hard just follow the directions/ examples. She is understanding, and answers Emails
She makes this class a lot more work than it needs to be. Homework every night, tough grader on speeches. Didn't learn too much about public speaking at all, since all she really cares about is the outline. Take another prof if you can, most of them are a lot easier and better for actually learning to speak in public.
Professor Tomei-Jameson is a great! She really teaches and cares if her students are learning. I took her class Fall 2015 and I am still able to start a speech from scratch anytime, never forgot her jeopardy game in class to prepare students for midterm test. It was really funny...
She is a nice lady who loves to help you as a student. Her grading on speeches is on the difficult side, but homework is easy (just videos - and a lot of them). She does give you detailed and extensive feedback, though. Wouldn't take again.
One of the best professors available. Great lectures, very encouraging, kind to those of us with stage fright. She was organized, gave quick, encouraging feedback, and prepared, and overprepared us for our speeches (because that gives you confidence!). Very fun, and a skilled speaker. She gives extra credit.
Not a good teacher. She makes you do this extensive research and outline before giving speech. 1st speech on a subject that can be viewed by different point of view. 2nd speech debate speech with a partner -no easy subjects. 3rd speech was a job interview- weird. She critiques harshly. Complains of being sick a lot and doesn't cover material well.
If English is not your Best subject i recommend that you take a different professor. She cares more so on the content and form of your speech rather than the presentation. mid-term was only essay questions, if you don't give enough detail you may get a low grade. this class is more so like an English class than a speech class.
Takes her job too seriously. She grades too tough on speeches and assigns a lot of unnecessary prep work leading up to each the speech. You will learn a lot of things from her class but prepare for a lot of work.
This professor is very enthusiastic about teaching. She does relate good with students and makes it simple for them to participate. Even though I do enjoy her class, she assigns a lot of work at once & may think we have no lives outside this class. On top of excess work, she grades strictly. Perhaps she should practice what she preaches, empathy.
Prof. Jameson is AWESOME!!! If you are dreading speech like I did, she's the one to take. Don't expect an easy A. You have to do the work, but she's a fair grader. Her lectures are interesting, and she encourages participation. Group work helps to get to know people so when it's speech day you are more relaxed. SO HAPPY I took her and I passed!!!
very nice and fair
Seriously take her. You are only required to do two speeches and the rest of the time you just show up to class, take notes, do little amounts of work and get an A for doing so. If you like structure and organized classes, take her class.
Awesome teacher! She really prepares you for your speeches.
She a good professor. But the workload may be too much for some students to handle. Also she expects you be perfect for speeches
To start off with, she does know her stuff no doubt about that. However, the work load is too much especially if you take the honors course. She wants you to speak her way and at the beginning of every class she will tell you to review with classmates about the class before which of course no one remembers. Glad this semester is over!
Lots of homework; however, she gives chances to make it up.
Likes her job, but gives too much work and puts too much work on herself just do yourself the favor and pick anyone else but her
If you have read previous reviews on this professor, stop here. They are all incorrect, majority of those students failed themselves. She gives ample chances to do amazing in her class. By far the best class Ive taken in college. You will learn & you cant just get through college expecting As for F work. Seriously take her!! So amazing.
She is an amazing professor, and if you want to be a GOOD public speaker, she's the professor you want to get. I had difficulties explaining investing to my classmates for a speech, and she helped me every single step of the way. Professor Jameson is one of the best professor's I ever had. She also gives A TON of opportunity to improve. 10/10
When I first took her class in the summer it was like hell the truth is she does give us a lot work and assignments in one day and it's hard for me to catch up on what assignment is due for her class
don't take her
she gives too much work and puts too much work on herself just do yourself the favor and don't take her
The work load is too much She wants you to speak her way and at the beginning of every class she will tell you to review with classmates about the class before which of course no one remembers. DON'T TAKE HER!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not a good teacher. She makes you do this extensive research and outline before giving speech.
She is a nice lady who loves to help you as a student. Her grading on speeches is on the difficult side
If your not amazing at speech she will make you feel stupid for not know what she should teach you.
Great teacher lover her enthusiasm
I took this class in summer, was hard. Between online homework, papers, speeches, and video response, be prepared to do a lot of work. She knows what she is doing, and it's not an easy A, so you have to swear for that. You are requested to record yourself 6 times, if you are introverted, will be hard. Final exam doesn't match with what you study.
Its shocking to see a negative review of her. She is by far one of the best professors ever! She is pleasant, thorough, and VERY knowledgeable with SPC. I took her 7 years ago and checked review because my daughter is now in college and needed pointers from this class. Work hard, get an A! She is helpful! You literally get out what you put in!
I have never had a professor who cares so much about their students. She wants you to do well but she expects you to work. I would recommend her.
Very cool and laid back, but she does expect you to work. If you want to learn how to be a better speaker take her.
Great prof! I enjoyed her class.
She is a very good professor, she is super nice and I learned a lot of good things in her class.
This class helped me go from a terrible speaker to a good one! I truly couldn't have asked for a better speech class and professor.
She is a nice but Shes extra. She really want you to learn but the thing was that I gave two much assignments and She takes a long to grade the assignments. She gave way too much assignments and she could not keep up with up.
Everyone who said she gives too much work is just being a baby. It's a college class, you can't expect to fly by every time. The work she gives can always be done in less than 30 mins anyway. She is very approachable, caring, and smart. She definitely wants to see everyone succeed. I felt so comfortable in this class and would take it again. Do it!
I can say I learned a lot. This was the most interactive and engaging class Ive taken BUT the workload was on the heavy side. It was just a bit too much when you consider your other classes and god forbid if you have a job. She is very realistic and makes the class fun but I would have taken it online if I knew the amount of out-of-class work.
Great redo/ late policy on certain papers. half way through the semester we had to switch to virtual learning due to COVID pandemic. as an in class course this was a good professor to take as an online professor although very flexible with due dates, work load increased as we switch to online classes. was not mandatory to meet online only on campu
She was a very understanding professor, especially during the transition from covid19. She has a very good redo/late work policy. There is a lot of work that is assigned, but it was fairly easy. She gives great feedback. Her feedback helped me improve a lot with my speeches! I recommend but don't be lazy.
She is honestly the most caring and amazing professor Ive ever had. Make sure you do your work and youll be fine. She pushes her students to be the best they can. I dreaded having to take speech but she makes it such a comfortable environment, I would retake if I could. Thank you Professor Jameson for pushing me to be better!
I took her class via remote learning because of COVID. Her class was asynchronous, so we didn't have live classes. She posted presentations for us to look through and had optional live sessions if you wanted to go. We only had two speeches. There was homework every week. No physical textbook, we just used Perusall online. Just don't procrastinate.
Had online meetings on one out of the two assigned days. Had homework due 3-4x a week. It isn't hard, but redundant and tedious. She doesn't just give an assignment and let you work. It is required to meet with her outside of class time before speeches. For some people they appreciate the "extra guidance" but it was more of a hindrance for me.
A very helpful teacher. Class is easy enough once you stay on top of your assignments.
She is an amazing professor and is willing to work with you. I went from 79 to 84 in the last two days of class. She does give extra credit opportunities and is available outside of class hours. Overall an amazing professor 100/10!
Overall a great professor only rated her lower because it seemed on my speeches if there weren't in agreeance with her opinion I was marked lower and I wasn't even given a chance to explain my viewpoint.
She is a great professor. Overall the class was pretty easy all you have to do is put in some effort. She will let you turn in stuff late you just got to tell her and if you are not happy with an assignment she will let you do it over. Overall she wants you to pass her class and she is a joy to take.
I would not recommend this professor. Her assignments were EXTREMELY tedious and I felt as though this was a middle school class by the way she speaks to the class. Participation throughout the entire duration of remote class was mandatory. You are assigned work that is due at least 3 days each week, majority of the time on Fridays and Saturdays.
This professor will say "i know you guys have lives outside of class" and "you guys are human" and then assign 3 assignments in one weekend
She gives a lot of homework that isn't worth the time. If you miss any assignment, expect your grade to drop. If you have a job or even a life, expect to get rid of it to complete her work. I would not recommend her.
Absolutely loved the professor, she was super nice and helpful. There is a lot of work that she gives out but as long as you put in effort and dont put it off until last minute, youll pass the class.
TAKE AT YOUR OWN RISK! This class was actually harder than I expected it to be. worse class I've taken at PBSC so far ! this teacher makes participation mandatory throughout the class the whole time and assigns so much work at once! not only do you have assignments in the class but assignments that are due on Saturdays! and Sundays! grades bad!
I felt as if I was back in middle school with the way this professor spoke to the class. I do not recommend taking this professor for speech because it will require a lot of time out of your everyday life. this professor assigns so much work and makes you do a lot of work during the zoom calls... half the things assigned are not even a grade!
This professor is very nice and loves what she does but takes the entire subject way too seriously. The workload is ridiculous and a lot of it is very repetitive. Prepare to write A LOT and do very tedious pointless work. I am not sure if she realizes most of us have jobs and take other classes. She needs to cut back a bit on the workload.
I would not recommend this class to anyone that is taking a full course load or has responsibilities outside of class. The workload of this class is ridiculous. Prepare to spend as much time on this course as two other courses combined. The assignments are tedious and plentiful. She is also a tough grader. Honestly, take her at your own risk.
The Professor is good but he assigns too much homework, really there are a lot of homework practically every two days.
Barely teaches what were required to read, everything is talking in groups then presenting our thoughts. Everyone is lost and doesnt want to talk, she brings up topics like sex vs gender, gender fluidity, etc. Strange topics for a speech class. I thought this was the biggest waste of my time and money. Shes fake nice and passive aggressive asf
The worst professor Ive had. She talks to the class like there in elementary school. Homework is due on weekends almost every week, stupid amount of homework for this kind of class. She is so passive aggressive its insane, she barely teaches what your required to read, which is so much, every chapter took over an hour to read/annotate. HATE
Absolutely hated this professor and class. Nobody wants to talk and she makes you go into groups, talk to the class, or present every class. Barely even teaches what you are reading in the chapter, talked about sexual fluidity the first week, . So passive aggressive it was actually funny that she thought nobody was picking up on that. Hated her sm
This professor was mid. She lets you turn in late work but with speeches she graded really hard. Speeches make up 40% of your grade and really count so if you take her make sure you take those seriously! Assignments were due every week broken up by Tuesday, Thursday, and then Saturday. Could not get the A because of speeches. Get ready to read!!
Too much assignments that open throughout the week, but the professor is respectful, nice, and allows to submit late work. Heavily reliant on the speeches, got 80% and my grade dropped from A to B+
Do not take this class with this professor. You will be over worked, and nothing satisfies her. She is late in her responses when needing information for the 100's of modules she posts. She picks apart every little thing. The work load is insane. Worsts class I have ever taken EVER. She does not care about her students at all.
No final exam or major tests but, best believe you'll be doing homework frequently. Assignments are due every week and may even be due on the weekend. A tough grader & confusing grading scale. An assignment could be worth X amount and instead of giving a # grade, you'll receive a "completed" instead. Your camera must stay on; no exceptions. 6/10
I failed the first time I took this class with a different professor. This professor will tells you exactly what you need to do to improve your grade. My class was a fully virtual, and she made it very enjoyable and simple. This professor will undoubtedly work with you rather than against you to ensure that you pass this class.
She was so involved and is willing to reach out to you versus you having to reach out to her. She always allows you to redo assignments and rarely any late grades. She communicates well and her feedback is on point. I recommend if you don't mind a heavy workload, there are no big tests so the classwork makes up those grades. One of my faves!
Awful class. There is way too much work for an online course, instructions are unclear, there are constant broken links and issues with platforms used for the course, and she takes a long time to respond when reached out to. You can't move at your own pace, and if you skip an assignment, you won't be able to unlock the next module, and so on.
This professor is very forgiving and allows you to resubmit assignments for a higher grade, though she is harsh when grading speeches, I never went above 89% on my speeches. This professor understands life happens and is very helpful. The last week of the semester, I had an 88.88 she allowed me to resubmit a paper and she bumped me up to an A.
Took Professor Jameson's 12-week hybrid class. There was a considerable amount of homework and reading. She is understanding with the completion of work if you tell her. However, I wouldn't recommend this class if you work full-time. I took three other classes with an easier workload, so I had time to complete the work.
Always very willing to work with me about problems, super sweet, and recognized work when it's put in. I took her online and the course boils down to completing a Nearpod (40min-1hr usually), reading a textbook chapter, and doing 2 or 3 assignments each week. There's 2 major speeches to film as well as a reflection video. Would recommend.
Don't get me wrong Prof. Tomei-Jameson, has a lot energy and a drive to teach this speech class. However, the content of the course seemed very skewed to one ideological view compared to the other. There were large amounts of reading and annotating texts which took up major time. This class is NOT self-paced, she releases modules to work on weekly.
I did all the work for her class but she failed me. Did not care to read my emails. Did not grade assignments that I turned in and gave me a 0.
She's a very sweet person and I know she means well and she's definitely very knowledgeable on the subject but she posts quite a decent amount of work weekly and if you're taking other courses that are heavy on work I don't recommend.
ifound this class difficult due to a lack of flexibility and support. The professor does not allow any opportunities to redo assignments, even if a misunderstanding occurred due to unclear instructions.
Don't take this teacher
Speech is a horrible subject, and she doesn't even make it fun.
So much work. Every week, she posts multiple new assignments due at unconventional times. Not only that, she is very nitpicky when it comes to assignments. In addition, she assigns multiple group projects, and you also have to present to people multiple times. She is also very passive aggressive. Do NOT take this teacher.
This teacher expects us to grow up and be politicians or something. Newsflash, we don't care about speech. She posts way too much stuff and makes it really annoying to keep up with her work.
Part 1. do me a favor, DON'T take this class. Especially if you're a dual enrollment student. This professor gives an absurd amount of work each week, it sucks that this class isn't self paced either. I get that this class is about interacting, but life happens, and people aren't able to submit assignments on time.
The reply before mine was outrageous. She's so unforgiving and overloads all of her students with work. Although I personally haven't been given really bad grades, she still is a tough grader and nitpicks EVERY POSSIBLE detail when you submit your assignments. Please don't waste your time.
There is a lot of work and she does not care what excuse you have, she will not let you make it up. Worse class I had, was very passive aggressive and the times I had to speak with her she was petulant. I would not recommend this professor if you have a lot going on in your life since it will take up most of it.
She assigns so much work every week. Assigned an Informative speech, mini speech, and a group podcast. Will check up on you knowing she assigns so much work. Overall, if she's your only option, do not take it.
This professor was amazing. She was so helpful and kind, and really cares about teaching and her students. She is a very good prof who gives clear feedback and is inspiring. Take this class!!! I am the shyest person I know and I aced it!
I took this class live online and really enjoyed having her as a professor. She encourages students to step up and facilitates the class well. There is group work, but it gets easier the more you do it. Some classes were fun. Would highly recommend for this course.
Would not even bother taking this class! Beware you've been warned
She is nice, but… Overloads u with work. Insane amount of project throughout the semester, and all of them were extra complicated. I wouldn't take it again. DO NOT TAKE IT, be aware of wikipedia pages
The class had its good day but for the most part it was filled with a bunch of work. She assigned way too many projects i understand that honor students should have extra work but she assigned way to much. She also is very picky and is passive aggressive. She also rushed through projects making it very hard to keep up with the work for it.
