She gives good lectures and explains things clearly. Doesn't always know how to answer students' questions but will take the time to go home, research them, and come back with an explanation. Tests are incredibly easy. Nice lady who wants us to do well. :-)

one of the BEST professor at Abington, lecture are very clear, notes simple understanding, attendance is recommended but if you could get the notes from someone thats cool, tests are straight from the notes, and text book hm you don't really need it but good to have because she puts some stuff from the text on the test,and stuff on movies we watch

Dr. Gillen is awesome! Her lectures can be boring, but she tries her best to be clear and is ALWAYS open to opinion. She respects what everyone has to say. Come to class, read, take notes, and you will do great!

this class is cake, she puts notes on powerpoint, and gives 50 question test on them, sometimes has "bold words" from the text book on test, she makes it so easy to understand whats going on, i wouldnt bother buying the text book

Mrs Gillen was one the nicest individuals I have met in a long time. She is a great teacher and explains every concept thoroughly. If you have a question about any of the material she is more than happy to answer it. I got an A in the course. No need for the book attend class reguarly and it's easy to get an A!!!

She taught psych 100 and is one of the most amazing teachers I've had at PSU. She teaches through power points and examples and her tests are based on her lectures with a few questions from the book. She also shows interesting videos from time to time which are also included in the test. She takes attendance through clicker questions every class

Dr. Gillen is the most amazing professor in the Penn State community. My major is not Psychology or HDFS, but I have taken three (soon to be four) courses with her just because she taught the class. I definitely would recommend any of her classes.

Always was interested in psychology, but she pushed me towards it even more without even knowing it. BY FAR, best class I've taken at PSA. I WILL be taking more of her classes. For a large lecture class Professor Gillen did a great job with enganging interest levels and actually getting to know a lot of the students personally. She is very clear and patient in her lectures. There's no reason why someone shouldn't get an A or high B in this class. 4 multiple choice exams, attendance, & an easy research requirement.

Dr. Gillen is extremely passionate about teaching. We take notes during each class. As long as you show up and take notes, you will pass. The textbook is required for the charts and diagrams that are on the tests. We have 4 exams, 75 questions each. It sounds tough but as long as you review your notes, you're good. You will also need an iclicker.

Super easy class. All note-taking and lectures. Really easy exams, final is just a 4th exam so there's really no final exam. Attendance is taken though. She's really laid back and the class is sometimes boring but it's an easy A.

I was not a fan of the course material or the subject so it was hard for me to enjoy. Other than that, Professor Gillian made things easy to understand. As long as you go to class and get the notes you should be fine on the test. Although it says the textbook is required, I bought it and did not even touch and it and did well.

Professor Gillen is one of the best teachers at PSU Abington. Her lectures are clear and informative. She gives students a chance to participate in class. Attendance is mandatory. My advice is to take notes of everything she says in class and be prepared to SYNTHESIS the information! Simply memorizing won't help. Clickers are mandatory. I love her!

Dr. Gillen is very intelligent and provides lots of details. I learned a ton from her and she was always available for assistance. She also was vital in getting me more involved on campus and the field of psychology.

Very boring. Very very boring but basic knowledge if you have common sense about psychology. Exams are easy, multiple choice, and based off of lectures so go to lectures. Didn't even look at the textbook and got an A. Visit her office hours she may be likely to help you out with your final grade.

Great class. No tests. 8 2-page double spaced papers and a 15-20 minute presentation that you can do alone or with a friend. Also 10 very easy in class assignments (2 paragraphs about class that day) that are random. Amazing professor. Will help you if you ask her!! Encourages class discussions. Take notes, you'll need them for your papers!!

Great lecturer, easy class to study for. Definitely the Psych professor I'd recommend. Pay attention and take notes in class and you will be absolutely set. Seriously if you are at all a person who studies or just does what you are supposed to do this class will go quite well for you. Highly recommend and she is always available if you need help!

There seems to be an influx of low ratings from her Psych 100 class lately which I find strange. I took her Psych 100 class about a year and a half ago and it was easy. Lectures, show up to class, take notes, and pay attention. I got an A without needing to study much, it wasn't so hard. I plan on taking a 400 level course next semester with her.

Professor Gillen is incredibly kind and intelligent. Like any serious classes, you must work for your grade. Attendance is mandatory and monitored by clicker questions every class. Lectures are from a power point that isn't posted online, so you must attend. Tests contain a lot of information but can be aced if you study well. Fascinating course.

She is one of the Best! She is an amazing professor, so wise and gives very thorough explanations! She is also the sweetest and very approchable. She does offer extra credit opportunities and her exams are all multiple choice (75 Q) and they are very easy (just like the lecture notes). There is very minimal studying needed if you pay attention.

Dr. Gillen is one of the best teachers Ive had in my life. So kind, repeats anything students needs and is always willing to explain something in further detail. If you pay attention in class you will barely need to study. Just make sure to take good notes during the lectures. I never read a word of the book and still got A's on all the tests.

She's a very kind and engaging teacher. With a Psych 100 class at about 200 people, she actually does try to remember student's names and interact with students. In high school, I used to find psychology so boring but with her lectures, it actually made me consider to be a psych major. Definitely recommend her!

Dr. Gillen is a great professor. She makes her lectures interesting, but you have to take notes so it keeps the class moving along. Four tests including the final and are fairly easy. Attendance is graded through the iClicker, so make sure you show up for class, its an easy way to bring up your grade. Would take again for sure.

Not hard to get an A. I was a B and C student all of highschool and I got a 100% in her class. All you have to do is study her powerpoints. They are worded EXACTLY like answers to the tests. She's super nice. The only annoying thing is that you need a clicker for her class. Definetly take her if you're a psych major.

She actually makes the course very interesting. She mostly speaks through the microphone and if she repeats what she has said before then it is definite that you have to write it down on your notes! Her tests are usually all multiple choice about 75 questions but as long as you write down notes and pay attention to her powerpoints then it's easy.

Dr. Gillen is a saint. She has become my favorite teacher. I find her very inspirational. The course is really relatable making it interesting. Go to class just because of how enjoyable and calming it is. There are no test and the longest paper we have is four pages. Take this class if you need a breather from other stressful classes.

The internship is a breeze with her as your professor. She is very understanding and will work with you and your schedule. So also gives extra credit.

Ive had Dr. Gillen for three classes and she is by far one of my favorite professors. Shes easy, super nice, flexible and the topics are so interesting. You learn things that you usually wouldnt learn in a traditional psych class and its amazing. Shes also very knowledgeable!

Took her for PSYCH200 and I'm surprised that she doesn't have a higher rating! Even tho the subject is difficult (stats) she makes it so easy to understand and is such an understanding professor! Getting an A is so easy, just attend class. She will solve the problems with you and give you the answers as long as she sees that you're trying.

Very engaging class and couldn't picture ant other professor on campus teaching it. Incredibly relevant topics are covered and class/group discussions are encouraged. Assignments are digestible with most being short 2-4 page response papers,"10 min papers" as attendance, and a presentation. Overall Gillen is approachable & cares about student input
