Dr. Haririan is a damn funny man, and good professor. I've learned a lot in his classes (both Econ 1 & 2), and I wish I could take him again.
He has a sense of humor that is dying to come out, but he isn't the easiest grader and he tells you to read the book instead of asking questions.
Great prof. Love his slogan - "no bulls--t." He makes economics fun. Must be a good listener (a bit of an accent). Recommended.
this class wasn't that hard but some of the material is a little confusing. dont worry if you dont understand it all you will still do fine. really nice guy whose real cool and funny. makes you learn. don't go hungover to class and you have to go.
he is a great teacher and very funny...DO NOT SKIP CLASS!!!! he will take points off for absences. hard tests but you learn alot from him.
Dr. Haririan is a pretty funny man, but he is also a hard ass. His class should be easy but he just mumbles on and on about dumb stuff and i dont feel like i learned in his class.
Really nice prof. Bends over backwards to help students. Tests are hard but he does his best to make complicated material understandable.
horrible can't understand a word he says.
A great guy! He makes class fun, and is always ready to help. he gives quizes the class before an exam and it doesn't count for anything, gives you around half the exam word for word. easy. go to class or he takes off lots of points. If you have to take econ, take him!
Doesn't really give clear explanations. His homework assignments are pretty vague. Not too difficult. The majority of the questions on his tests come from the practice quiz he gives. Takes attendance...go to class.
He's a really good prof. He is rather intimidating in class, but he is super nice outside of class. Also, if you don't understand things he will explain it over and over. Oh, and all his test questions come from study guides he gives you before the test. He is fun and interesting & pretty funny.
Very good prof, moves quickly through material and explains everything very well.
Prof Hairian is the man! He's about 4'9 tall. He's a **** about attendence but his test are cake. Study the review packets and vocab and you'll get atleast a B. I would recommend over Bagi
This man is the sh*T. He threatens to take off points for attendance but honestly I missed about 6 classes and ended with a B+. Just level with him and tell him your interested in Econ and your set
By far my favorite professor, ever. Get to know him personally and show interest in class and you'll have a guaranteed A. Numerous chances to earn extra credit. Study guide is word for word on tests, doesn't even bother to change order of answers (study guide is usually 18 questions off the tests 45).
Hands-down the BEST foreign prof ever. 4'9 Iranian man that really knows what he's talking about. Class is a must- attendance is a part of your grade. Tests/quizzes are fairly easy. Live up to Haririan's "NO Bullsh!t" mantra and you'll do fine. Relates material by talking about Ricky Martin "shaking and breaking." So fun - TAKE HIM!
professor haririan is definately my favorite professor ive had yet. he makes attendance a huge part of the class and makes you work but if you go to class you will def do good on the tests because they are pretty easy and come from the quiz he gives the class before the test
Dr. Haririan is a great professor and an even better guy. He's extremely helpful and he provides all the answers to the test ahead of time, all you have to do is memorize them. You need to go to class, but its not a problem because he gets students involved.
He's terrible. Sucks!!
his class sucks... in the beginning he was cool and he just did a complete 180 he is a terrible teacher and doesnt answer any questions he marks you absent if you are 1 second late. dont take him if you can help it.
He is a great guy! You MUST go to class!! Material on tests is straight forward. Will help you. Overall a great prof. I've taken him for four classes already, and he has been nothing short of great.
He's a tough but fair teacher. Don't let his occasionally stern "angry Iranian" classroom demeanor intimidate you...outside of class he's a genuinely nice guy who's eager to help and knows his 'stuff'.
He's cool in the beginning but gets kind of hard toward the end. The tests are pretty easy, just make sure you look over the study guide, especially the one that comes with the book. You have to work in groups, which is pretty stupid, and he asks random questions that no one knows how to answer. But overall, he's ok.
I didn't like him, and many of the other people in my class had the same problem of connecting the book to the notes.
Medhi is the man bar none. Just like everyone else said on here, the test questions come from the study guides that you do in class, the rest is just paying attention..how hard is that? I was surprised at how nice he was outside of class, hes a great dude with a lot of attitude.
Had 3 econ classes before his, got 2 B's & an A-. He was the only one to teach this class & I had to take it for my minor. Couldn't understand him. Went to him for help & was told that he taught it in his econ 2 class so everyone should know it (I had a dif prof for econ 2). Worst teacher ever, DON'T take. Very stressful class. Got a D w/him.
In my opinion in general is hard and shouldn't be a 100 level class, but he made going to class ok. He's a bit of a hardass at times, but he's fairly funny and is willing to help you if you need it. Do NOT be late for class or leave early because attendance counts and if you come in late your marked absent. overall and OK class.
He is very difficult. You will have to study a lot if you want a good grade. If you go to him during office hours and he gets to know you, you are more likely to do well. I went several times & he ended up boosting my grade from a c to a b so i suggest going to him! His accent is hard to understand but he repeats if you ask him to. very funny man!
His classes are hard but he makes sure you know the material by repeating important thing a million times. You have to be able to read graphs since he uses them all the time. You need the book for homeworks and YOU HAVE TO GO TO CLASS. He will help you if you go to his office and his option of you counts. Take him if you want to understand economics
Worst professor ever. Teaches the same thing in every course, too lazy to make a test so takes it from the review. Wants you to regurgitate everything, so you learn nothing. ****. Too bad hes the only one to teach a few classes so your probably stuck.
Not particularly difficult, although required working in groups and doing dozens of practice problems, later ran out of time to teach essentials. Not always the most professional, tries to show off for the class with profanity & questionable stories about former students.
I really REALLY didn't like this man... and that is being nice. I couldn't understand him and frankly he scared me. Unapproachable and always put people on the spot. Taught class as if everyone was an econ major... SUCKED. terrible terrible terrible.
Lots of people dont like Haririan, but he is a good teacher. he comes off as really unapproachable, but he will answer and expain any question you have in his office hours. normally people do awful, so expect a grade curve. he isnt hard to understand, but he does speak broken english.
GREAT PROF HAD HIM 3 TIMES WISH I COULD TAKE HIM AGAIN you just have to know how to work with him
Terrible professor, went to office hours and was very short and rude, definitely try to avoid this class
I had him for 2 classes. Econ 1 and 2. Trying to understand him takes a while and he is very strict with attendance. At the end of the semester he barely tells you about the presentation you have to do so be prepared. READ YOUR BOOK and outline everything! He won't learn your name unless you make him...he will point and say you. GOOD LUCK!
I felt discrimination agains me. He was not JUST!!!
He is a little hard to understand at first but once you get used to his style he isn't too bad. Definitely not a push over, but I respect that about him. He definitely is an expert in the field....very creditable. Check out his publishings! Oh, and don't be late, never miss a class, and pay attention in class he hatessss when people fall asleep.
I'm a BU graduate (1991)and took a class w/ Dr. Haririan. Of all the professors I had, three still stand out:Dr. Haririan, Dr. Cochran (Math), and the late Dr. Kerlin (Math). Looking back I have one regret and that is not taking Econ I with Dr. Haririan. He made you earn your grade which forced students to actually study and learn the subject.
Teacher definitely makes you earn your grade. Might not come off as the friendliest teacher but he makes the class fun. You'll definitely know a lot about economics after this class. The tests aren't the easiest but if you study you'll be fine.
Well, the first barrier your going to have to cross is the language barrier. I swear, half the stuff that comes out of his mouth is not english. Then, you have to learn to understand his hand writing. Most of his letters all look the same. If you miss more than 1 class you can only get an 80. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
This class was difficult. Haririan knows a lot about the subject, but it's still hard to grasp. He's two different people inside/outside the classroom, so I highly recommend getting to know him during his office hours bc he's actually very kind and helpful. Tests are pretty tough, & end-of-year project is hazy. You must LEARN econ, not memorize
sucks so hard dont take
He is definately a hard teacher. He may be hard to understand at times, but for the most part its not bad. Pay attention as much as you can. Don't be late or miss his classes. This man is very credible and takes pride in his expertise in the field. He is very helpful during office hours. Your grade is a measure of how well YOU tried in his class
Test are three question out
he is a very hard professor. he is not nice at all and if you are absent more than once he marks your grade down 20%
Dr. Haririan was my professor for four different classes. He may come off as difficult, however when you actually get to know him as a professor he will do anything possible to help you. Take him if you want a prof truly dedicated to teaching the youth
Dr. Haririan is by far one of my favorite teachers here. So helpful and such a nice man. Definitely recommend taking his macro econ class. Had no interest in economics yet managed to learn a lot and get a decent grade.
Not hard to understand considering his accent, but the concepts can be abstract and hard to follow the way they're presented. Challenging, but a good professor.
Challenging professor that really wants you to succeed in his class. You need to UNDERSTAND the concepts, not just memorize them. Make sure you make review questions out of the textbook as well. Exams consist of lecture material, as well as textbook material that isn't covered in class.
The class is pretty straight forward. Exams are composed of three questions sets where you select one of two options from each set. If you can draw and explain graphs you are fine. This entire department is literally just a bunch of foreigners drawing graphs all day long-- a big, sad joke...
I showed up to EVERY class, did every homework assignment (which he never checkedcounted) , showed up everytime he offered extra class time for help, clearly put in effort and he STILL managed to fail me. Do not take him if you don't have to.
If your looking for a teacher who will deduct 20% off your final grade for missing more then 1 class, excused or not, then look no further. If you miss anything in class, or have questions, he expects you to ask your "group" and will offer no further help. Worst teacher I've ever had. Ignorant and stuck up, to say the least. Homework every night.
Quite possibly the rudest person I have ever met. He belittles the class when an incorrect answer is given. Goes off topic mid-way thru a lecture and forgets which problem we are on. Quite possibly going senile. He told us "My job is not to teach you. Your job is to read the book." Do yourself a favor and avoid him like the plague.
Essay questions
Avoid at all costs, lecture material barely reflects on tests, stresses book use, book material isn't on test, words everything very complicated, tests long and hard to finish in time. Cracks a joke every other week.
Superb professor! He is challenging, but also extremely educated in economics. Attendance is taken every class and your grade is severely worsened if you do not show up. Ask questions and go to his office hours if you are struggling. The three exams are long and expect a few quizzes. Above all, to do well in this class, BUY AND READ THE TEXTBOOK!
Terrible professor. Only grades are tests, and they are insanely hard. Mehdi is also a very rude professor, and if you miss more than 2 classes he takes 20% off you grade. AVOID
This is the worst professor I've ever had. He is rude and has no interest in actually helping students learn. Not sure how he's allowed to stay on this campus because he is horrible.
Interesting class in regards to topics and what we learn. However, really hard professor. There are only two exams + the final. The first two exams are all essay type questions. Lectures can be boring if you are not interested in Econ. He does not use BOLT or PPT either.
As a first semester freshmen, it was a horrible experience. I dreaded going to his class and made me want to transfer. He is a little hard to understand and really is strict, points get taken off for not showing up. We had 3 tests a semester and that was about it with grades. if you struggle with the tests you are in serious trouble for his class.
Mehdi lectures everyday. He will drop your overall grade about 15% every unexcused absence. The only grades you have for the class are 3 exams and attendance. Attendance grade is supposed to be heavily weighted since its 25% of your grade. But it did not boost my grade at all and I went to every class. So basically your grade is 3 exams averaged.
DO NOT TAKE, he is beyond rude and not helpful. Only grades are 3 exams and what is on the test is not from any of your class notes. Good luck if you decide to take him
Probably the worst teacher I have ever had. Completely monotone and confusing. He will occasionally crack a joke or two but for the most part its strictly lecture (that of which is hard to understand) and nothing more until the class' scheduled end time.
Only 2 exams which are 25% of your grade each and very hard. the final is 30% of your grade and attendance is 20% definitely have to go to every class and read your book if you want to do well
Absolutely the worst professor I've had to date. He is very unclear with what he wants you to do. You are better off reading the textbook yourself because he pretty much just reads straight from the textbook to the class. Also no electronics including computers to take notes. No way of making up for missed notes because there are no power points.
He explains topics/concepts pretty well, but the problem lies within how he grades and his lack of care. Your grade is dependent on like 3 or 4 exams, all of them 3 or 4 questions each, and if you miss class, he drops you one whole letter grade, not to mention that he's a picky grader. Including missing class for athletic events or illness.
Dr. Haririan is probably one of the worst professors I have ever had. He doesnt explain his material whatsoever, and he gives you 3 exams per semester with no other grades.
I walked into class the first day expecting these horrible reviews to be true but honestly, I enjoyed class with Dr. Haririan. Very educated in his field and he wants everyone to succeed. Strictly business in class but seeing him outside around campus, he's a really nice guy. He recognizes participation. Show up and study, you'll do fine.
Dr. Haririan could not be any nicer. He makes his students success his number one priority. He has no problem walking you through something that you did not understand.
This is arguably the worst professor Ive ever had. Unclear in his lectures, will not let you in zoom if youre 1 minute late, the homework platform he uses is irrelevant to the quiz and test questions. I only passed from learning on YouTube how to do the class.
Lectures everyday, no powerpoints. Read textbooks chapter. The only grades are 3 exams, and none of the lectures or textbook chapters are in the exams. Teach yourself because he sure won't. Not sure how he ever got employed.
Dr. Haririan is notoriously difficult and warned about. His quizzes and tests often do not match what he lectures about. Emailing him about anything will likely get you no where and will just leave you more confused. Not only is he a very boring lecturer, but he is not the best teacher. Prepare to read the textbook and teach yourself.
Very unclear, exams do not match lectures. So much uncertainty, not efficient for an econ professor which all about efficiency. Tenure saved him. Does not teach. Must be learning from outside sources. Bloomsburg seriously must re evaluate this man, bad professors get lazy once they know they cant get replaced
Tries to be a nice person and he probably is but his lectures and readings have absolutely no correlation with what is on the quizzes and exams. It is especially awful because you have to go to class to pass but then nothing from class is ever going to be seen again on anything. If you don't already know something about economics do not take him!
By far the worst professor I have had here. Teaches the same thing over and over again, but almost none of it is on the tests and quizzes. He is also doesn't answer emails.
Amazing professor!
The worst professor in this school by a mile
not only can he not teach the material effectively, this man has an ATTITUDE. you can ignore all he says in the lectures since none of it is on the test. be prepared to teach yourself or withdrawal like i did. this guy really stinks. tenure saved him. bloomu do better
This guy lives in his own world and is one of the worst professors I ever had. This guy has no idea how to teach and literally writes on a notebook paper with terrible handwriting and expects you to understand it
Avoid him at all costs, randomly calls on you, and marks you absent if you don't answer. Quizzes and exams make or break your grade, weekly homework makes up for nothing. If you don't read, you will bomb everything, terrible teacher. Take literally anyone else if you have to take this class, nothing worse than being his student.
Worst professor ever. Avoid at all costs. If you have one unexcused absence he drops you a whole letter grade, if you are late to zoom he marks you absent, when he takes breaks and you are late to come back to the zoom he kicks you off.
EXTREMELY harsh professor. Will mark you absent even if you are on the zoom call a second late and it will drop you a letter grade. Will yell at you!
literally horrible is not helpful or accessible at all save yourself
As long as you participate in class and you do the homework you should be ok. He seems to grade the people who noticeably are trying to understand the material a bit easier. He encourages the students to attempt to answer questions even if they aren't sure and he does appreciate the ones who do so. I didnt love the class but the professor was good
Not accessible. Does not answer emails. Does not pay attention to the zoom chat or any of its features to communicate with students. Will call on you randomly within the lecture and you better hope you hear it because if not he'll mark you absent and apparently even one absence can ruin your grade.
It is really hard to understand this professor, he speaks in broken english with a heavy accent. He will call on you during class and wont repeat the question even if you cant understand him. Attendance is mandatory and he will fail you if you miss more than three classes. Each time you miss class your grade drops a letter even if you are sick.
Speaks very broken english, has a huge ego and will not repeat questions if asked. Marks you absent if you don't know how to answer a question during lectures. Please do yourself a favor and don't take this professor.
Took class twice. Does not properly answer emails. Work is extremely strict and very independent. SO MANY QUIZZES!! Take the class at your own risk...
Strict but if you do what you need to do it's not that difficult
He does not respond to emails and is extremely rude if he does (which is rare). If you miss class for being sick and have a sick note from the school he will not let you make up missed assignments. Also randomly calls on students during Zoom lectures and will mark you absent if you do not respond.
He is hands down the worst prof I have ever had.The content being taught is not necessarily hard but the way he teaches it makes it 10 times more confusing. I have no clue what he is talking about. I take his class over room and if you miss more then 1 meeting he will drop your grade by a whole letter. That's not even the half of it. DONT TAKE HIM!
Terrible at his job the course work is easy but the way he explains it makes it much more difficult. For notes he will put his camera up to a paper and hand write everything which makes it very hard to understand what he is trying to teach.
Worst professor ever. His final exam was based off of other tests he gave so I studied the exams and none of the questions were remotel7 close to what he said would be on it. Just writes everything down on a piece of paper. Do not take him.
The material was straightforward, the workload was light, and the grading was fair. He is there to help if needed and will throughly explain materials if asked. I very much enjoyed the class. Great professor! 10/10.
no guidance or direction in his course
The content being taught is not necessarily hard but the way he teaches it makes it substantially more confusing than it needs to be. Additionally he gives his quizzes and exams through another platform, meaning the content you're tested on hardly relates to what's mentioned in class. Also pretty hard to understand what hes saying most of the time.
Bottom 5 teachers of all time
If you miss more than one class you get dropped a letter grade. If he calls on you and you don't answer you get marked absent. Very disrespectful and rude person.
not a very understanding person
The guy is super uptight won't answer your emails he will just refer you to university and class procedures instead of giving a simple answer to a simple question. The work on connect is easy he does all the notes in class on a piece of paper. You miss more then two classes you drop a letter grade. Keeps all grades as 0 that you haven't done yet
By far the worst teacher I have ever had. This man has to be a CIA OP playing mind games in lectures. His lectures are hosted on zoom aka his "black site." They are actually informational; you might have hope of learning the material! But none of it is on the quiz! Best of luck is to tone out what he says during class and grind Mcgraw hill lectures.
