Horrible, very boring, hard to understand. All my friends talked about how easy their teachers were.. this was just horrible. when teacher evaluations came around everyone gave him a horrible review. do not take if possible
He is a pretty good instructor, teach you a lot of stuff about Fin. I just studied his lecture notes and didnt read the books at all, i scored 67 on the first exam and 92 on Fin-coach and 100 on the second midterm. pretty easy class and his exam were based on the sample exam, so they are pretty much about the same. He is good to take.
the subject matter is boring, no doubt about that. you dont need the book. just the review sessions before the midterms. the midterms are vary similar to the actual test and he allows a note sheet for the midterm. just make sure you are there for the reviews and you will do fine.
Get another teacher. Very boring and makes something that isnt that hard a much bigger deal...
If you want a class where you'll pass... this is the one! I didnt learn much from the class and barely study... I pass w/ a C. If you really want to learn something or a FIN major... get another professor!
Took FIN 320 in Fall 2006. Easy Class and instructor is pretty helpful. PLus he has a policy that allows u to miss 6 classes before actually deducting any participation and attendance points. review sessions very impt DO NOT MISS. others said before attendance not very impt but the average class GPA was only about 2.2..so if u go you will benefit.
Really easy class but is by far the MOST boring professor I have ever had. I'm not sure if it is his fault because the material is very dry. But it was his first semester teaching and he just couldn't keep the class interested. Take if you want an easy A or B and some extra sleep!
Material is dry, but he tries to keep it interesting. Sample exam is very similar to the test. Read the book and most importantly print out the ppt slides and that is all you need to pass the class. He takes attendance but you can miss like 7 classes without it affecting your grade.
Overall an easy class and a very friendly professor. His sample exams are very similar to the real thing and he allows unlimited notes (provided they are handwritten). Material might be dry but still very comprehensible. Would recommend!
Prof is a nice guy, and tries his best to interest the class in finance (its a dust-dry subject). Sample exams were similar to the Midterms. *TAKE* the fincoach prep class, helped me get 100 on the Fincoach when class avg was like 65. Unlimited handwritten notes allowed - note that the final is more conceptual than problem based.
Easy Teacher...Easy class...Just pay attention to the lecture and do the homework and you will get good grade. Textbook is not necessary. Mine text book still have the wraps on. You might need the CD for Fincoach exam.
Attendance is mandatory, if miss 6 classes you are dropped from his class! 2 midterms, 1 fincoach exam, and 1 final exam. Go to the fincoach review before the fincoach and you will do well. For the exams study his practice tests. For final study all, its a departmental final(ITS HARD)50 questions, 35 definitions and 15 math problems.
Nice guy, but boring subject. i didnt go to the fincoach study session but got an 88. usually i get Cs on his test. just do the practice fincoach test and know how to do every one of them. save some money too.
Pretty easy class. Prof was nice, but the subject is dry. Tests are pretty easy with average studying. Fincoach is extremely easy, just do the practice test.
To me a fun subject. Very easy class. Just go to class because attendence is part of your grade, and go over the slides and the practice tests and you'll get an A. Going over the practice Fin Coach test makes Fin Coach VERY easy.
very dry subject. has somewhat of an accent but is understandable. do the 5% extra credit project at the end. it'll be worth it.
I absolutely dreaded going to this class. This guy isn't hard or mean just boring. Dry subject with boring teacher doesn't mix. The tests are pretty easy though. I barely read the book but went to most classes and got a B.
Easy class if you want it to be. Attendance mandatory as part of your grade but he just reads the slides. Library posted the wrong book and I never got the right one but still got an A-. 2 Midterms and 1 comprehensive final. Just make sure you go over the sample tests he posts and you'll do fine.
He's alright.. I actually felt some vibe that his might actually be tough from the get go but its not to bad. Gotta do the practice probs to pass the fincoach, otherwise your out. Final is killer.
No exams, only case studies. Even though the group projects were fairly easy, the fact that all of them were due towards the end of the semester made me a little annoyed. It wasn't a difficult class or interesting.
Finance is boring and unfortunately, the prof doesn't make it any more interesting. He helps you as much as he can though & he's super nice. Curves the exams. Attendance is not required. Some homework is assigned but it's due online & is pretty simple. Not a lot of work during the semester, but study for the exams. The dept final is a killer!
HE GIVES YOU EVERYTHING TO PASS. SAMPLE MIDTERMS AND FINALS. POWERPOINTS ARE VERY GOOD. LECTURES CAN GET BORING SOMETIMES. HE IS WILLING TO HELP IF U NEED IT. REQUIRES MYFINANCE LAB. GIVES TONS OF EXTRA CREDIT. DEPARTMENT FINAL IS SUPER HARD. CURVES THE FINAL GRADE.
I took Spring '10 and he was very thorough in covering the material. He assigned A LOT of homework problems so if you did them, it really prepared you for his exams. He was very fair and wanted everyone to do well. He knows finance for sure. I recommend him.
This class was fairly easy. No exams just 3 big projects. Make sure you have a good group to work with or else it will be difficult for you to complete the projects since all of them are due at the end of semester. He has a good grasp of finance and is willing to help students when they need help.
3 case studies (no tests) - all due near the end of the semester. You go over a case study almost every class & they provide alot of hints for how to prepare projects. Recommendations: Attend most classes & pick a good group!
Professor is helpful but this can be a slightly tough class (case studies). First half of the semester is relaxing and a breeze. Second half will be very busy and hectic. Things will come back to back. Try to have good group members. For Negotiation Exercise, don't drop your price too much/quickly. Written projects and presentations. No tests.
Great teacher, open to questions, will make an effort to address any questions you ask. Open to engagement and participation! Will add his in-class note/work to blackboard if you ask him to. There is just so much material, you have to stay on top of it and engage him with questions if your confused. Great teacher best 320-Professor hands down.
No test or Hw only 3 projects. Try to pick a good group bec. the projects are kind of hard. Participation is part of your grade. But you only have to participate a little. I barely participated in class and I still got a B. I would recommend taking this class.
He is super helpful esp. if you go to his office hours. Took this class over the summer; he posts everything he uses in class (powerpoints & his personal notes) on Blackboard. He gives you everything you need to pass. He does give HW and quizzes on MyFinanceLab, and there were 2 midterms, Fincoach, and the Final. He also has a pretty sweet curve.
Probably the easiest fin 320. Very clear and concise. Simple class format just follow the study guides and do the online homework and you should pass without a problem.
I got a C in his class because I never study for the midterm and exam. However, he is a fairly easy, clear professor. I would highly recommend him. Do online hw, quizzes, and practice exams, you will do well in class.
Akbulut is a great teacher. I am a finance major and this has been my favorite teacher. His teaching style makes for the information to be easily understood. The book is usefull because this class has a department wide final and 60% of the final is conceptual. For the other 2 mid terms, the powerpoints and his in-class notes are perfect.
Theres alot of hw but as long as you email him he'll be able to help you. His exams are similar to his practice exams its not the same numbers or anything just the same format he gets questions from his exams from hw and quizzes. Fincoach is exactly like the sample fincoach super easy. Department final was a lot of terms.I would take him again.
He is an amazing teacher. This class has taught me more than all my finance courses put together. If you are interested in mergers and acquisitions or being an analyst, THIS IS YOUR CLASS! I would re-take it just for the knowledge and experience. 3 group projects, must read all cases, no FINAL!
Great professor. If you really want to apply WACC, capital structure, etc. take this class. Three projects and no exams. You must read all the cases prior to class to get the most out of it. Professor Akbulut will go through each case so take good notes because it will help you in your projects. Good luck!
PROS: nice guy, no exams, 3 case studies and two presentations, it was fun doing the negotiation case against another group. CONS: he is a very tough grader, the highest grade on the first case study was an 86% (my group), highest grade on the second case study was an 89%, HE DOESN'T GIVE ANY A'S! Don't take him if you are trying to keep a high GPA
PROS: No HW, No Exams, pure case discussions, posts class notes. CONS: Overbearing, Tough grader, 3 projects in second-half of semester, Slooooow grader.
Really Good Professor if you do not have any knowledge about Finance you should join Dr.Akbuluts Course. He´s explaining slow and clear. His midterms are as same as the Example Terms.
The subject is challenging, but he is always willing to help students. His lectures are a bit dry, but informative. There is a lot of homework, but it is very beneficial. Exams are multiple choice and the problems are easier than the homework due to time constraints. Overall, excellent professor. Highly recommended!
VERY EASY, knowledgeable, helpful and hard working for students. He provides all materials you need to prepare for departmental exams. School is wonderful because of him. THANK YOU, Professor!
Prof. Akbulut is super laid back and his class is one of the easiest classes you will take. The subject is dry but he likes to make little jokes here and there and actually does a great job teaching. The homework and quizzes are online and are designed in a way where you can easily get 100%. If you get the chance to take fin320 with him GO FOR IT
Very good professor. He provides you with everything you need in his lectures/powerpoints. Homework and online quizzes are easy points. It was my own fault for not studying like I should which is why I'll be retaking. (*sad*) The department final is mostly concepts which was hard, but he does curve. Highly recommended.
Excellent professor! The bulk of this class is doing homework & quizzes online. His lectures reflect the weekly chapter homework. If you miss class, he puts the notes up on Titanium. Attendance is not mandatory. His exams are very similar to the sample exams he provides. He also allows graphing calculators. Very helpful guy. Highly recommended!
Prof Akbulut explains the material very clearly. He posts all his lecture notes online. Sample midterms and reviews are helpful. Great prof!
He is an easy grader. I personally felt the class was boring and easy. He does a lot of examples which is nice.
He's a nice and caring professor. He really wants his students to succeed in the business world. The workload is very manageable. HW & quizzes are set up in a way that it's hard to get less than 100%. Does plenty of examples in class to make sure students understand. Definitely recommend him, especially if you have a loaded schedule.
Dr. Akbulut is a very helpful professor who does a good job of making complex ideas seem simple.
Subject is very boring but he tries to make it fun. He gives you everything you need to do well in the course. Definitely wanna do the sample exams he posts as the real exams are very similar. Although class is easy, gotta remember the concepts he teaches! The finance department writes the finals and they put a bunch of conceptual questions.
I took this class thinking it'd be easy based on the reviews. SADLY WRONG. His tests DO NOT REFLECT HIS LECTURES!! He doesn't even recognise some of the questions on the tests nor knows the answers to his 'own study guides' which I'm sure he doesn't even write. Class test averages were a low D. EXTREMELY HARD TESTS!! Nice guy but DO NOT TAKE HIM.
He is a very nice professor and he will help you if you need help with the materials. However, midterms and finals are extremely hard. Our class got D average for the second midterm.
Professor Akbulut is a great professor. The best thing about him is that he Is incredibly organized, and gives you everything you need to succeed. He does tons of examples in class to make sure you understand the concepts. If you have to take FIN320, take him!
DON'T TAKE HIM. He claims he makes his own tests then ends up not recognising some of the questions on there. The tests were EXTREMELY difficult and different from the lectures + hw + studyguides! His lectures are clear and he does SIMPLE problems that aren't on the test! If your class average for a test is a D, that's not the student's fault.
Professor M. Akbulut is in my opinion one of the best finance professors at CSUF. Makes material extremely easy to understand. I went from an accounting major to finance due to his knowledge and expertise in the material. His lectures were easy to follow and understand. Posts lecture material online for those who missed a class. Highly recommend.
GOOD TEACHER! i would recommend!! there is no group project and his tests are fairly easy! Make sure to do good on that valuation exam because it will help out a lot in the end! Would recommend!!
He is super monotone, but other than that the class wasn't bad.
Amazing! This is exactly the right word to describe professor Akbulut. He is super nice, clear and ready to help students. Best professor at CSUF. Take him. No regrets.
Highly recommended especially if you just need to pass the class. Explains the material well and shows us how to do calculations. You can probably get an A if you actually study the material. Got a B through just doing online HW and reviewing the practice exams.
Took for summer school after not passing (70%) last semester. Would recommend taking him especially during summer! Online homework & quizzes are easy points. He also weighs your higher midterm score at 20% and your lower midterm score at 10% (this helped me since i got a 90% on midterm 1 and a 60% on midterm 2). HWQuiz questions show up on tests
Summer: 4 weeks; Lectures can be long but he uploads the notes online. 2 midterms, valuation exam and final. The val and final are departmental so he wasn't able to prepare us as well. HW Quizzes and Val Exam were on MyFinanceLab and all served as grade BOOSTERS. For the midterms focus more on the sample exams. Attend class & read book for B
Great class! Do the reading before you go to class! If you are a finance major and work in finance then this should be very simple for you. BE AWARE of the group you chose for the project. It is your group the entire semester and your grade is based on all your projects. NO TESTS. NONE. Not exaggerating. Whole thing is based on projects.
Everything is presented clearly except for the last 2 chapters, which are related to the real world at a fast pace. 12 online homework assignments and tests (10% and 15%), 2 midterms (30%), 1 online "midterm" (15%), 1 final (30%).
Failed w/a diff Prof. Took Akbulut but was a lot more easier. Cheat sheet allowed during the test. Study the quizzes from the financelab, midterms are similar to the practice midterms with the exception of a few questions. Drops two lowest quizzes and hw. Weighs midterms by 20% highest score and 10% lowest. No need to read.
Professor Akbulut has a very clear grading criteria. He also drops your lowest test score, which is very helpful. Best practice is to read the chapters before lecture. Most classmates really relied on the book. At times his lectures are a little sterile and cold.
Professor Akbulut is the man!!! I would definitely recommend him to any student new to finance. His explanations are clear and concise, and most importantly easy to follow. He shows the class some real world applications of finance which I found very intriguing. He cares about his students.
He is not difficult to understand but the material could be tricky he is a great professor and goes over important information study and read all powerpoints. He uses a lot of excel on his demonstrations and we are not allowed to use excel in test so confuse me a bit. he really helps and is available on office hours and read.
He is very clear & explains the material in lecture much better than the book. Try to pay as much attention in class and use the tools he gives you (i.e. slides, excel spreadsheets, etc.). Personally, the material was not engaging; so, try not to take it right after lunch (my mistake). Online homework helps with practice.
Professor really explains concepts and calculations during lectures, however, lectures can be dry. Online homework and quizzes. 2 in-class midterms (study !!!). online valuation exam. 1 in-class final exam (comprehensive !! study !!). Posts entire lectures on Titanium. Posts study guides and sample exams on Titanium.
Definitely recommend. 2 midterms (best one is worth more %), 1 final, and 1 valuation exam. Online homework and quizzes which he drops the last two. He has awesome notes which he posts online. Take him if you can!
He is an excellent professor. However, the lectures are a little bit boring :(!! This professor knows finance left to right!! His powerpoints are long between 100-150 powerpoints slides per chapter sounds a lot but very helpful, he puts a lot of exercises with their respective solution, so it's all good :)
Great professor, dude has a phd in finance so he definitely knows what hes talking about. The class in general is difficult but he does his best to prepare you for the tests. His lecture notes are gold, he posts it online so i suggest saving them as valuable resource. Make sure you read the textbook because this subject is based off concepts.
Very tough class. I got a good grade, but I put a lot of effort into it. He always encourages students to ask for help if needed. The department final is really hard so score well on everything else. Study, study, study!
Missed class. he transitions from the power points to his personal notes. The writes his notes in his tablet and is projected to the class. He will later upload to Titanium, so if you missed class you have your notes. Pretty easy if you understand his notes and be careful with the midterms 30Q's M/C. Final M/C
Very difficult class. I think he curves it becuz I knew I had no hope in passing. Also, do all the hmk & quiz. Some questions on the quiz will be on the test. 2 midterms, 1 final. 50/50 on calculation problems and conceptual questions.
Highly recommend this professor ! Finance 320 is a tough class but his summer course wasn't too bad. His study guides are almost identical to the actual exams. Some conceptual ?'s on the mid-terms are tricky, so be careful! Lectures are really long but attendance is not mandatory since he posts all notes online.
Lectures are incredibly boring. Study his in class notes he uploads on Titanium! Must know how to use a finance calculator. 2 midterms are 30Q 50/50 calculation & conceptual. Quiz and hw Qs on My Finance Lab will appear on midterms. Look at powerpoints, read textbook, do the quizzes on MFL for Conceptual Questions. Final is 50 Q. Online exam 25 Q.
Difficult subject. Lectures are very dry. But he tries hard to make the material as understanding as possible. Do well on all the homework and quizzes and read the text and it should be extremely helpful in passing the class.
His lectures were very straightforward. The HW and sample tests he put up were very good representations of the actual exams. If you go to class and keep up with the work, it is pretty easy. The course itself is really just about getting to know how to use a financial calculator to do things that you did in Excel for ISDS 361 A/B.
Great professor, his class is just him giving you examples. He posts all his lectures on titanium so even if you cant make it you can catch up. The book was pretty useless, (still in shrink wrap) all you really need is the code for Myfinancelab and the finance calculator. His tests are not hard if you actually try, you can use a cheat sheet.
For Spring 2018. Homework and quizzes for 12 ch worth was done on Pearson. Easy A on that. Exams were a little difficult, but I think the difficulty was from the material itself. Department final was ehhh - double sided one page notes available for each exam. Recommend putting the sample final on cheat sheet. Attendance offered EC near the end
Lectures can be a little boring. There are homework assignments due every week which are easy credits. For tests, practice the study guides and you will be fine. Practicing homework problems also help for tests. You are allowed 1 cheat sheet for the test so that helps a lot as well.
Great professor who wants the student to succeed and is very friendly. He explains everything until everyone understands. Hand writes all notes so you can revisit it online. Tests are fair, and he pulls it directly from his exam reviews. 1 page cheat sheet and gives 10% EC fro attendance.
Personally, I wouldn't take him again as he was extremely boring. This professor knows his stuff but for someone that isn't concentrating in finance, I found his lectures to be boring and confusing. The good thing is he gives extra credit near the end of the semester if you come to class.
His lectures are clear, but can be boring at times. It's a different story if you talk to him about the market; he's very enthusiastic about it and likes to make real time examples--very useful. His tests are from notes and hw, and I advise you read the book. He cares about his students and wants everyone to learn. I learned a lot from his course.
I took this class last summer. It was a challenging class, but the more classes I take the more I realize how good of a job he did. His class is straight to the point. Only downside is his accent can be difficult to understand at times--when lectures are long (3 hour class), but he has excellent grammar. Would take again. Tests are similar to guide
As a German student I can say that he is gonna teach you a lot if you listen to him. 12 homeworks, one valuation exam, 2 midterms and one final exam. They are not really hard if you study enough and do you homework on yourself. Learn the calculations and make a good cheat sheet and there will be no problem to pass.
Showed up to class as often as possible notes r up online but going 2 class rly helps 2 midterms 1 online valuation exam 12 online hw and a final. Didnt take attendance but did check at times for extra credit. Pretty ez if u pay attention in class. 2nd midterm was kinda hard but i did not study nearly as much. Overall pretty EZ
This professor is a good lecturer because he provides clear instructions. 40 % of Midterms, 15% of Online Homework(drop lowest one), 15% of online Valuation Exam( 2 attempts, highest grade), 30% of Final(cumulative) . One page of cheatsheet can be used in exams. The sample test is helpful.
Professor is very chill and respectful. Only 3 exams and Pearson homeworks for every chapter. Homework does not take long. Study using Pearson and youll survive the exams. In addition, use quizlet to study terms. Easy class if you make your own notes to study off of. He lets you have one sheet of notes for every exam which is helpful.
Take him. He gives you more than enough resources to get an A/highB. He posts evrything he does on Titanium so everything is accessible and fair game. All real world examples, interesting, study guides are quite similar to the tests, and unlimited tries for the easy/fun homework.
He gives a lot of EC. 2 midterms (40%), the higher one will be 25%. 12 online hws (15%), drop the lowest one, online test (15%) and final (30%). He is nice. Take him.
He is a very nice professor and always seems willing to accommodate with his students! This class material was very tough and I struggled a bit. He even provided extra credit which helped. Hw is easy but tests were difficult. 2 midterms, 1 valuation exam, 1 final, and hw due weekly (hw is super easy). Study and you will be fine!
He knows a lot about finance but his lectures don't prepare you for the tests at all. They are hard-lots of reading the book, going over stuff he didn't even talk about, & the problems are always harder than the ones he does. He gets mad when people don't talk during class but he is really unapproachable and kind of mean when you answer wrong.
I like Mehmet Akbulut, he gives three exams with two lecture every week; Professor Akbulut has a long related experience in finance to let the benefit of it.
Super chill professor. His lectures can be a bit boring but he knows what he is talking about. He will make sure you understand something. His tests are proctored but allow front and back cheat sheets. Assigns homework almost every week on MyLab Pearson, which is not that bad. Overall, it's a good class, I definitely have learned a lot.
Professor Akbulut was a very nice professor! He helped us through the semester and provided us with a lot of information for the tests as well as the homework. His lectures were pretty interesting and the class itself wasn't too bad. He was super chill and let us have a cheat sheet (front and back) for the exams! Definitely would take him again!
Very easy to follow, and tests are very closely related to his lectures. Homework is easy, short, and helpful. No textbook, lectures are recorded. Relates lessons to real life examples and comes in very handy. Great Professor!
Ehh. He was ALRIGHT. Def wouldn't give him an 4/5. His delivery to convey the material should be improved. Had to pretty much teach myself because he was difficult to follow along with. He was also behind on lectures with hw. He's a nice dude, I just have an issue with his teaching style.
His lectures are extremely boring and he does not teach the material properly. He has an accent and at times is hard to understand what he is saying. Also, he will start talking about stocks like if all of us are taking finance as an elective. RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!. The second Mid-term was way far from the sample exam provided. Teaching style is bad
Professor Akbulut is a good professor. He answers any questions you have, but he tends to ramble on in his lectures. However, he wants to make sure his students understand the covered material. He also incorporates real-world examples in his lectures.
Very few things graded. 2 midterms, valuation exam and final. There is extra credit which is nice. His lectures i found to be super boring, just reads his slides then rants about stocks. I didn't feel like he was truly teaching anything. HW is easy, tests can differ from study guides but overall not impossible. Just be prepared to teach yourself
All I can say is that I did not learn anything from this class. His lectures were so far from the homework and exams. Homework was easy but exams were extremely difficult.
Seems like an expert in his field, but his teaching style is definitely average. The vast majority of students stopped attending his zoom meetings as they would tend to drag on. The tests are difficult but do-able if you know the material. He offered an extra creditopportunity, however, the points offered were included in the total points.
Professor Akbulut is really good professor. Highly recommend.Textbook is not necessary. HW is easy as there are unlimited attempts. Attendance and participation not mandatory but very useful. Lectures are about 1/2 of his own notes and 1/2 of ppt. slides. He's very knowledgeable in finance and helpful. Easy going. Exams kinda challenging though.
Had him for my first finance class. he is super generous with his curves. I recommend.
The lectures were pretty boring and his exams are a little different from his sample ones. I suggest going over the book for conceptual questions. The final was hella conceptual. He gives extra credit & the homework is easy. He also provided a HUGE CURVE which saved everyone's grade. I could've gotten a B but the exams are pretty rough so STUDY!!!
He goes a little fast during his lectures. I downloaded the powerpoints and would just make extra notes on the side because it would be impossible to write down everything he's going over. There's a chapter quiz pretty much every week and the homework is easy enough to get through
i barely did any work for this class. i passed fine. his lectures drag a bit but the hw is not too difficult. allowed cheat sheets for every quiz including the final. the final is a lot like the valuation exam including the chapters learned after. not bad. very caring.
He has a nice grade policy. Easy homework which is 10%, and quizzes every 2 weeks. But his quiz sometimes just like homework, and sometimes are really hard. He has some accents but he really caring and patient to answer all your questions. To pass this class tries to have a good grade on quizzes while there are 40% of your total.
Great Professor, knows his content well and is good at explaining concepts. Lectures are a little fast paced, but easy to follow along with the powerpoint. Homework is easy, quizzes every other week, most are easy if you study. Textbook isn't required, but it really helps to re-read the content to study or else you might miss little details.
Homework is very simple and doesn't take a lot of time. 5 quizzes, one gets dropped so super clutch. Valuation exam fro hw credit and 1 final. Has a little but of an accent but speaks very well.
He knows all the topics very well. Every class is a lecture and he does have an accent which is sometimes hard to understand but overall it's fairly easy understand. Total of 5 quizzes, hw assignments each chapter, evaluation exam/midterm, and a final. The hw on MyLab has step-by-step instructions which helps with topics. Great professor and cares
He is very educational and entertaining. Pay attention during lectures and do the homework and you will pass.
This professor is really nice and knowledgeable! In order to pass any test you have to pay attention in class and do the practice problems on slides, if you just stick to homework it is very hard to pass the tests. He does go really fast when lecturing, so try to do the practice problems on your own time.
Professor Akbulut is awesome! He allows cheat sheets as well as a formula sheet for quizzes which are usually biweekly. No midterms and frequent quizzes are better because the content is fresh on your mind. The class is lecture heavy, but the slides are all posted on Canvas and you can teach concepts to yourself if needed. Very knowledgeable.
I can make no complaints. I would be content if every professor was like this one. The lectures are pretty digestible and even entertaining at times. The workload was fairly light, and grading felt pretty fair even before the curve. The curve was enormous, maybe erroneously so; my grade of 95% was raised to a final grade of 127%.
Good teacher I would recommend taking. Graded on ~8 quizzes and one final exam. Quizzes once every two weeks which will cover 2 chapters. Study and do the homework questions as they are very similar on the quiz. Also find ch questions from the final study guide as they will be on the quiz. Final study guide mimics the final exam. Lectures boring.
His lectures are boring, but he is funny. There five quizzes with lowest score being dropped and best scoring quiz will be worth more. Quizzes every two weeks(2 chs). Quiz based on hw. Exam based on final exam review and hw. Quizzes are straight up homework with different numbers and conceptual.
The lectures were boring to follow since he mainly reads slides. Quizzes were sometimes difficult, however, if you study and review the slides, you should do fairly well. The final exam took me out, but that was my fault, if you study the sample final (he provides it at the beginning), then you should get a pretty good score. He curves too.
Lectures can be dry, but stay engaged and use resources like Unstuckstudy along with the practice problems to do well on quizzes. Curve helps, but put in the work to earn that A.
Very funny guy, no midterms just basic homework and quizzes every 2 weeks on 2 chapters. Puts a huge curve on the final exam. def recommend.
Super cool professor! lectures quick and it's a lot of content, but he is very knowledgeable. As long as you pay attention in class you'll do well. He is a fair grader and cares about students. Only graded on homework(drops the lowest score), valuation exam, 5 quizzes(drops lowest and highest score worth more) and the final. He's funny too
Professor Akbulut is very nice and wants all his students to pass. You need to purchase Pearson to do the homework, which is not hard. I feel as though the quizzes were a little hard. He likes to show you how to do everything on Excel but you are not allowed to use it. He does curve your final class grade.
Gives great stock advice and financial advice in general. Lets students know the material which will be on the exams and quizzes.
Great professor I highly recommend. Truly cares for and wants all his students to pass. He curved to bump letter grades up. Very nice grader (drops lowest score + lowest homework). He talked fast in his lectures but it's not hard to keep up. Applies real world problems into his lectures which is pretty cool.
Just take him, you will pass the class. RECOMMENDED!!
His quizzes and exams are challenging, but you will learned A LOT from his class since he will always willing to help you out whenever you are confused with the questions. He is a chill professor overall.
Lectures are a bit boring but grading is super generous! The quizzes and exams are fairly similar to the homework problems. The courseload is pretty light compared to most courses. I also skipped over half the classes and still ended up with a generous attendance score. I practically failed the final but the curve saved my grade.
Good Prof.with long-dry lectures, but he's excited about the topic he teaches. 1 Ch.quiz (based on the HW) every 2 week to sum up the lectures we recently went over. No exams except the final at the end (difficult, know how to use all the formulas learned through the class). Attendance counted. Likes to talk about stocks & gives good advice on it.
Good professor but his lectures were useless felt like I taught myself the material. The quizzes are similar to the homework and some material from the lecture slides and the final was so hard but the curve went crazy
A class I took in the summer, thought it would be easy enough... it wasn't. The class average on the exams was poor. You teach yourself the material. You're double monitored, you share your screen and then also share a separate webcam so he can see a side profile of you while you take the exam... Good luck
I really enjoyed Professor Akbulut's class. I learned a lot and the material was really interesting. He's a very generous grader and really wants his students to do well. I would absolutely take him again if I have the chance. Great professor!
He was a great professor and very knowledgeable. Always willing to help. Math is just hard for me, so I got a B-, which is better than what I thought I was going to get. I truly enjoyed learning about finance. Grading is based on quizzes and exams. No homework. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
He genuinely wants you to succeed. Drops lowest quiz score and lowest homework score. Pay attention and show up to class and you will pass just fine. He's very understanding and passionate about the subject
