bad professor! likes to play around with students mind and grades. likes it when he makes students squirm. i think he is proud of it. should not be allowed to teach!
Understanding teacher, teaches well. Those who do not understand should just reflect on your intelligence!

He is a great professor as well as a great person. I wish that WSU had more professors like him. He knows what he is doing. Anyone who needs to take DS 350 take it with Dr. Barut. You will be happy that you did.
This guy will give you a real brain workout, but you'll actually learn something by the time you're through. He was tough, but fair and it was well worth the effort!

Good teacher, makes sure you understand.

i agree this class is a brain picker but the professor tries to help students a much as possible. he knows what he is teaching to the max. if your not interested in the subject its a struggle. be prepared to study and prepare for lots of hmwk and quizes

I agree with others. I don't really understand what that one guy with bad ratings trying to do though. I am sure he is just a laid back person who wants an easy A or B. Well, this class and this professor is for people who wants to learn ssomething.
I agree that Dr. Barut has done a lot of research in his field and is smart in that respect. However, his extreme lack of real world experience tends to bias his teaching. He is ivory tower and needs to understand real world implementation.

Excellent organization!
He don't know what he is talking about.
Well-organized and knowledgable. Usually has to curve exams.
Instructor is very knowledgable. The level of discussion is very high. Assignments were experience of a challange for an MBA level. The guy who rated the instructor low must be a foreigner who does not know how to listen. No easy grade in this course!

For anyone who is forced to take this class, as is the case for most Business students at WSU, and not really interested in the course, you won't enjoy it.He cares if you're doing poorly, but can't always express concepts so you understand them.
This guy is a joke. His english sucks, as is the case for 99% of teachers here. I could barely understand a word he said throught the whole semeseter. I would do everything possible to avoid his class. Basically, it sucked.
If you can't get an A or B in this class you don't deserve to be in college. He makes it as easy as possible and offers many ways to get good grades.
boring, but class is really easy. gave lots of opportunities to improve grade.
Excellent professor. Clear, concise instruction, high expectations, but understood most people were there due to degree requirements at this level. Excellent English, but with an accent that was easy enough to understand with any effort. Very personable
he is an excellent teacher he makes himself available all the time for questions. He explains a lot in his office. he has a little accent but hey who has not?
The worst class I've ever taken. He can't explain himself or answer questions and his expectations are unclear and are posted in 100 different locations on blackboard. Make sure you check blackboard every hour to keep up with his changes.
You know what he is one of my best professors in the shcool of business. He is definetely hard one but at least he is very helpful when you approach him. Lots of info on Blackboard but you gatta know how to use them. Very well structured instructor. He is very fair but not easy to get an A.
He is a great instructor. He will go out of his way to help students succeed and is realistic in his approach to students time requirements, which is especially important to night classes.
Tests are hard but our class had huge curve so we could pass. Showed up for the credit but had to earn it. You must study and show up to class or you will have problems.
This teacher is extremely hard. His class work and homework only slightly prepare you for the exams that are too indepth and generally F'ed UP! If your good at stats and calc you might enjoy him otherwise run for the hills becuase he SUCKS!
Tough class- but he will make it possible to pass if you try very hard in there. You have to show up and do your homework in there or you are not going to pass.
Do not take DS850 with this guy...you will regret it. I did. I have my BS in Mechanical Engineering from KSU and this is the all time worst professor I have ever had. Last year average on the final was a 52.
Class is hard but he makes it possible to pass. He knows what he is doing and understand the class is tough. If u r one of the slackers, dont take with him. Book is required, attendance is not mandatory but sometimes he gives pop-attendance-check and gives credit to those who showed up.
Good teacher. Does not require attendance and he teaches the material very well. I would recommend this teacher if class is required.
I took this class as a 2 week presession. I was told it'd be difficult, but I think its the best way to go for this class! Material is difficult, and a LOT of it for the first test. But, he is very understanding and curved plenty. Even slackers should be able to pass at least :) Very nice professor!
This teacher is very helpful and so enthusiasm. I don't care what others say but I really like his teaching skill. He deserves to be one of the best teachers because he is exceptionally intelligence and of course he wants students to learn.
Personally he seemed like a nice guy, but as a professor I was unimpressed. Lied on several occassions and said something wouldn't be on a test, the BAM it shows up on the test. I agree that he seems to like to make students uncomfortable. Very tech minded and seemed to concentrate more on the computer than the students.
Took this class as a pre-session. He's a smart and cool teacher. Knows what he's talking about. Thought this class was going to be hard but if you read the book, then you'll get a good grade. It was a fun class. Had him for DS350 also but that was much harder since it had a lot of statistic problems.
This professor did a lousy job approaching an 800 level course. I agree with the ivory tower comments, and his overall approach was not ambitious enough. He didn't tackle the strategic aspects of OM that would provide a toolkit for top level managers. His lectures were disjointed and lacked organization. He couldn't control the class. Disappointed!
Absolutely waste of time, no teaching skills whatsoever.
The class is hard enough without the language barrier, yet he tries to help with comprehension.
He was very helpful whenever needed. It is a difficult course to teach and he worked hard on it. He is very nice person and knows his subject very well. I would definitely recommend to take his class. It helps to learn real world examples.
I took his class in pression, he is very cool lecturer. I had fun in his class, extremly helpful. i like the cookies he brings to class:D
I would not recommend taking this class from him Online. Very nice teacher & tries to be helpful, but a lot of people were confused. The language barrier makes it very difficult. He doesn't know how to convey what he wants in writing. 1-2 days until he'll answer a question. You will spend a lot of hours on homework & discussion. Take the lecture!
He seems like a nice enough guy, but I would definitely not recommend taking the online course from him. He takes too long to resond, and the clarity of what he wants from you is poor. You never know where he gets his examples from, and its too hard to find out whathe wants for the homework.
Very argumentative and not helpful at all! He got his PhD to do research, not to be a teacher. That aspect definitely shows. He scolded a group for completing their project two days ahead of the deadline. His tests were pretty difficult, and he is not helpful in learning the content. Have to take another one of his classes, less than thrilled.
I took this class online. It took way more time and effort than you would think.I couldnt get an email response the two times I had a question. You should avoid this guy and this class in the online format if possible.
Took this class online. Very hard to understand what he is looking for in his homework and discussions. Even if you think you answered every part of his questions you probably didn't.
Dr. Barut is a nice enough guy but he has some major failings as a professor. He is not clear on what he wants for his projects and doesn't explain why he gave you a certain grade. His lectures were practically non-existent and he is not clear in answering questions. This was a pre-session and I would not recommend it unless you have no choice.
Probably the worst class experience ever. He actually docks points for answering questions in too much depth because it hinders discussion. I took it online and his videos are difficult to understand because he can't speak English well and it is impossible to get his questions 100% correct.
DO NOT TAKE A CLASS FROM HIM!!! He is the worst professor. You will have more work than all your other classes combined, he puts vague questions on tests, he will ignor emails about grading. I wish someone had warned me before I took a class from him.
Mehmet is one of the worst professors at Wichita State. As a senior, I am in 3 other 600 level courses and this course makes them look easy. He has 900 points within the first 2 modules and assigns so much work that I am spending more hours on this course than my other one. He is awful. Don't take this class online.
I strongly recommend to not take this class over the internet. There is too much math. The prof also did not make himself readily available as you were to only contact him by Skype. His videos were hard to understand. For a 350 level course it is very difficult compared to the other 300 level courses taken due to the math and I love math.
This is the wort class I have ever taken. I got a 100 on all HW assignments and quizzes, and still received a C+. This is because with the tests you have to round every step perfect to two decimal places. That seems easy, but if you mess up the first part, you miss the whole question because everything is wrong. DONT TAKE IT ONLINE
This class was absolutely terrible. Due dates are spread out over a bunch of random days throughout the week so it's easy to miss things. Doesn't respond to all email and only makes himself available through Skype. This class requires way too much time! There is a 10 question test worth 10% of your grade at the end of the semester. DON'T TAKE THIS!
He is such an intelligent professor. His class was online. You need to manage your time really good for this course. He grades easy and gives partial credits even if you show your work. I suggest this class if you want to learn something at the end of semester.
Only makes himself available through skype, so no office hours. You are on your own with this course. email responses from him are not clear. Assignments are tough and tests are almost impossible to do well on. Take DS 350 from a different professor if you can.
I took this course online. He had no office hours and you could only talk to him on skype or e-mail. Homework was tough. Exams were even worse. There are 3 modules, each with homework, an essay, discussions and 2 exams, one conceptual and one problem based that takes 3-4 hours. Except to spend a lot of time on this course. Easy grader though.
When I enrolled for this class I was worried because his name sounded foreign and I don't understand heavy accents well. Came to class and we easy to understand so don't worry about that! Class was tough, must attend and pay attention to pass but definitely recommend the 2 week class. Overall good professor!
Good professor inside the classroom. Outside of the classroom, he NEVER answers emails or makes time to answer student questions. Extremely frustrating.
I've never been in a class where the syllabus caused so much confusion. He teaches you the basic way to do things, assumes you have an exceptional understanding of statistics, then you're on your own. In order to pass you have to read chapters word for word, spend hours on confusing practice problems in order to possibly get a average grade.
DS 350 is a good survey course that synthesizes a lot of what you learned in your advanced standing courses at WSU. Having a done well in ACCT 210220 and ECON 231232 helps a lot, as this is a very math-heavy course. You use a lot of statisticsprobabilities. He is a decent lecturer, very knowledgeable, and always answers questions in class.
Watch your grades, does make mistakes on grading. does expect you to open all links to videos and documents, he tracks them.
I took Project Management as a pre-session class. Since the class was only two weeks, there was a lot to do. We had a group project, quizzes every other day, role playing, midterm, and a final that had two parts to it. Don't be afraid to ask questions via email or in person. He's pretty friendly and brings snacks for his students.
Nobody was on here to warm me, but this class was pretty brutal. He provides 0 lectures 0 powerpoints. Read the book and try on his tests. Hardest tests I've taken online or in person. Saw the average class grade drop 10% after he posted the 1st test. Picky on format will miss points if you put "2" as an answer instead of "2.00". Bad experience.
Literally does nothing. He doesnt have video lectures, or PowerPoints, I and other students just read the book for help. His test take 3 hours to do, and the problems are all very hard. The book example problems are nothing like the tests or homeworks, making it difficult to even know how to do them. Doesnt post any helpful materials or examples
I took DS 755 (Project Management) as a Presession class in Summer 19. The class was intense, and the group project took a lot of time, but wasn't hard, he randomly assigned groups. We had to learn Microsoft Project on our own pace through given material. There were a couple of tests which weren't too bad, the final consisted of problem solving.
The material didn't help with the homework and the homework didn't help the the exams
His class consisted of much work: 7 exams, 3 essays, 17 LS assignments, and 9 homework assignments. The exams were difficult, and the essays required me to interview a local business. He provided little material to help with the homework assignments which each took many hours. I would highly advise that people take this course in person.
Avoid him like the plague. He should probably take a communications class. Zero feedback & lecture content, textbook & tests are unrelated.
If youre with this professor, change immediately. The 3 exams are four hours long and the 3 tests are one hour long. The homework is done using decimals and if you dont round correctly through it all, you fail. There is no curving, no extra credit, and no help through this class. Dont bother emailing him, he wont reply. Book is no help either.
An ok teacher, the course is pretty chill and easy if you do the work for the class. sometimes lectures are unclear but no major problem if you're listening
DS350 is advertised as asynchronous but he does lectures on Mondays. I appreciate the extra effort, but it created more workload and I felt that lectures on top of the readings were way too much. There is a 16-page term paper that he gives vague instructions on, no heads up outside syllabi, and uses a rubric from Scranton PA? would never take again
Maybe it is just the course itself but be prepared to study for this course. Homework is done through connect. There is one assignment that goes along with the reading and one homework. There are three exams and a final.
Professor Barut is not an understanding teacher, I had a surgery I needed 3 weeks to recover, and even had the note from my doctor. He still denied my request, and told me to do all the school work. I had to ask another student who took the class before to e-mail him to answer me. All my other teachers were understanding about the situation.
Very organized, both with the syllabus/schedule and homework. Chill class, however, long lectures. There were lots of helpful extra materials including problem walkthrough videos. I would recommend taking the course with this professor.
Extremely long timed tests that only had a few questions. Very picky grader. Lots of SL assignment. Oh and NO Lectures. Pretty much a self taught class.
Seems to think teaching you how to perform the concepts required would make it too easy. This class consists of assignments and a textbook to comb through to figure out how to do them, then unrelated tests later on.
No video lectures or any content outside of what is linked with Mcgraw-Hill. Barut also expects a 14-page research/interview paper to be submitted for a 350 level online class. Overall horrible "teacher" that reflects the problems with tenured, lackluster professors that assign loads of meaningless work without even instructing.
Absolutely 0 teaching is done! There are NO lectures and he assigns homework with NO explanation. I spent most of the semester looking up videos from other universities to have the material actually taught. It is truly unreal, the worst educational experience I've ever had at a school. WSU takes your money and you seek out education from youtube.
Doesn't do any lectures except for occasional problem solving videos after the homework is due. His exams and tests are hard but he allows multiple attempts to average the overall grade. There are problem based exams and conceptual tests for each module but he allows plenty of time to be completed. Beware of huge term paper plus final exam(s).
Trust the rating and take someone else's classes. But if this is the only online class option, then be ready to book your next therapy session. His homeworks are nothing like the problem-based exams. He doesn't teach and McGrawhill assignments are sooo time-consuming. The term paper is long and the direction is vague.
This class was very difficult online. With little to no (in some cases) response to many emails. He seemed to try to make the class "tricky", the syllabus mentions 1 final exam, not 3 final exams all about different things and in different format. The aforementioned formats are only mentioned/clarified the day before the exams.
