Very unhelpful and unclear about what he wants
At the beginning of the term our class was full (about 80 students) I believe there is about half left. Unorganized, unclear, and untimely (with class, emails and meetings). Very hard grader, especially considering his lectures give no indication of format of exams.
Would not ever have this prof again. He is very disorganized, unclear about what he wants, and you literally need to chase hi to get feedback for your work.
Excellent professor, the course material was a little dry but he always tried to keep us engaged and interested. Grade was based on two major assignments which were graded very fairly. The professor makes an effort to ensure you are doing the best you can to get the best grade possible and is almost always available to discuss assignments.
Dr. Caman is an excellent professor and very knowledgeable in the area of International Relations. The course consisted of 9 quizzes, only 3 count towards your grade, Oral Presentation and a research paper. He is very accessible outside of lectures and genuinely cares about his student's success.
He can be vague about what he wants with assignments but as long as the final product is well researched you will do very well. He is often in his office and will chat about course work as well as career advice. His life story is tragic and gives a learner much to reflect about. Especially when learning about democracy. Very caring and kind hearted
taken three courses with this prof (4250, 3010, 4370), while he is a little dry he truly cares about all of his students... even ones that rarely come to class. He will make every effort to ensure you pass as long as you are giving some amount of effort. A true gem.
One of the worst profs that has taught me at Memorial University. Very disorganized, and unclear about what he wants.
10/10 the BEST prof around. His cheerful attitude made a potentially dry course very enjoyable and always cracked jokes. Very clear about what he expects for his assessments and gives really great feedback. My only complaint is that I wished we were graded on more things. Talk to him about basketball and go to his office hours and he'll love you.
Dr. Caman is by far the best Professor I have ever had at MUN! He is really easy to get in contact with and I would highly recommend attending his office hours and get to know him. His experiences really make him a wonderful person and professor.
This is was my second class I have taken with Dr. Caman and I look forward to taking more with him in the future. He truly cares about his students and wants to hear different perspectives and opinions. If you take a class with him you will learn the material but you will also gain greater knowledge of life in general. Great professor.
Good course to take outside of your major for elective credit. He's really caring and believes in his students
Dr. Caman is one of my favourite professors at Memorial. His lectures are very informative and he is very clear about what he wants. He cares SO much about his students and is willing to help you with anything. He gives pop quizzes but they are really easy. I would 10/10 recommend anyone to take his class.
One of the nicest Profs I have ever had. Very kind and is happy to give you help if you need it. He tries to keep our classes interesting even if we are covering dry subject matter. Would absolutely recommend taking a course with him if you have the chance.
Dr. Caman is one of the nicest people Ive ever met, he cares deeply about his students and is very approachable. Some comments Ive read say hes dry, but I think hes hilarious.
Great prof! Always super helpful and if you study his slides you should have no issue in regards to tests
One of the nicest profs that I have had at MUN!
Dr. Caman is super helpful, kind and almost always willing to bend a due date if you need the extra time. Keep in mind that the course can be work heavy as there's a reading every week with a page long summary and a presentation at the end of the course but there are no tests/quizzes and the textbook is not needed. I would 100% recommend this class
Ive had Mehmet for two courses now, 1001 and 2300 and cannot recommend him enough! His lectures can sometimes be a little dry but hes such a sweet man who really just wants you to succeed. Hes big on presentations though so if thats not your thing definitely consider that. Overall though, really easy to do well if you do the readings.
Dr. Caman is a real gem! He is the kindest prod that I have ever had. He tries his best to connect with students and make very dry material interesting. He makes you feel comfortable and is very flexible with due dates if you talk to him. He recognizes and highly encourages students to go to class. He has pop quizzes, a presentation, and an essay.
One of the worst profs I've ever had. Extremely unclear about information and is very disorganized. He doesn't post notes until days after class so it's extremely difficult to take notes during class. SO hard to get a hold of, I've emailed him many times & have gotten no responses. Makes you read the whole book (for a 1st year course)
Great guy, best prof Ive ever had in my life. Hes very passionate about politics and cracks jokes all the time. His analogies are always very useful to help understand political topics. Outside of lectures hes a very approachable, friendly guy and will stop at nothing to help you succeed. Would definitely take him again.
I am taking POSC1000 with Mehmet and he is by far the best prof that I have. He cares about the students and wants to make sure that you get a great grade. He always makes time to talk outside of class if you have a problem with something in the class and he is extremely helpful and tries his hardest to help. Overall amazing prof.
Honestly one of the nicest profs Ive had the pleasure of taking since Ive come to this university. Very understanding of his students and is always willing to help them in any way he can. It is extremely evident that he cares about his students and if they are understanding everything he is teaching. Very positive in all of his classes.
A very good professor. He cares for his students and goes out of his way to make things clear. A very nice person and would definitely take his class again. He is a great teacher and individual. I just hope that he would respond to my emails, and that his office hours were more diverse and not random.
Dr. Caman is the nicest prof I've had to date. He is so caring and is very passionate about making sure that his students do well and that they understand why he is teaching. There is a lot of reading but it improves your knowledge around the topics and helps you do better in evaluations. Would take him again in a heartbeat.
Dr. Caman is an absolute angel. He makes an information-heavy course digestible and easy to understand. He will go above and beyond, out of his way to help you, even if your problems aren't directly related to the course. An amazing introduction to Political Science for someone outside the faculty. I left every class with the warm fuzzies.
Dr. Caman is an amazing prof; super understanding, fair and a great teacher. He is open to new ideas especially from his students unlike some profs and loves open discussion. He doesnt just teach the material he really wants every student to have a good understanding. Hes not only a good prof but an amazing human being. 10/10 Recommend!!
Dont take in a remote format. I haven't had him in class before (he's apparently good there) But currently he hasn't responded to any emails despite saying he will (I have emails from other students with this issue as well as myself) and is extremely late with posting weekly readings (past assignment deadlines) and yet still uses syllabus deadlines
Professor Caman is a genuinely great person, who'll do whatever he can to help throughout the semester. Although he seems to have a bit of trouble adjusting to the online environment, which means he isn't too quick with replying to emails, he is still an extremely fair grader, and makes each lecture as interesting as possible.
I took Dr. Caman's class online. Admittedly, he struggles with technology and takes a bit of time to respond to emails. He is passionate about teaching and treats his first-year course as it should be: intended to teach foundational university skills. Dr. Caman is very approachable and caring and does whatever he can to reduce stress for students.
He seems like the sweetest prof and does try to make your lives as easy as can be. That being said though, he does not answer any emails or if he do it takes weeks for a response. There are weekly assignments and quizzes, there is also a research paper and a "quiz" at the end of the semester.
You can tell Dr. Caman cares a lot about the course and his students. Even though the course was easy, I found it hard to get ahold of him at times. He gets sidetracked during class now and then, but he'll postpone quizzes if he falls behind the course schedule to give you time to study. 2 short quizzes, a paper, and a final exam. All super easy.
He is a very sweet prof and wants to see his students succeed! I would take another class with him as he posts everything you need but, also seems to struggle with technology as he is very hard to get ahold of. There is weekly quizzes straight from notes, weekly assignments and a paper!
Dr. Caman is truly the sweetest prof you'll ever meet. Of course, being in an online environment wasn't easy but he really cared about his students and wanted to make sure he wasn't overwhelming you. His quizzes and final test were very easy if you took notes during his lectures, and he does have a final paper worth 40% but he's an easy grader.
Such a sweet, caring, and understanding professor who will gladly help you out and listen. The material was easy and enjoyable to learn. Would definitely take this course again
although he may be technologically challenged and take a while to answer emails. He is truly the sweetest prof ever and wants all of his students to do well. There is weekly assignments and quizzes neither of which is challenging, there is also one research paper. He posts everything you need and the quizzes come straight from the notes
I had Dr. Caman as my prof for POSC2200 this past semester. He was such a caring and sweet prof who did everything he could to help us succeed in the course. I was saddened to hear that he won't be returning to MUN next year, as he is one of the best profs in the POSC faculty!
I had Dr. Caman online in the winter of 2021 and thought he was a great prof. He seemed to struggle slightly with the online communication but his lectures and quizzes were very clear and he gave a lot of creative licence for the final paper.
Super interesting lectures and essentially impossible to fail the course unless you literally do nothing. Knows his topics well and is great at answering questions, and is extremely caring toward students. His rating on this website is abysmally low, should easily be a 4.5/5. Probably higher.
Mehmet is fire, show up to class for the most part and the material is fairly easy to learn because he makes it interesting. Dont freak out if you miss a class or two, he posts all his PowerPoints online anyway so you can get the notes easily if you miss the lecture.
His rating should be considerably higher than it is on this site! Dr. Caman was such an amazing prof! The lectures were a bit dry, but he was super fair in his grading and really wanted his students to succeed. I wouldn't hesitate to take another class with this man! A real gem.
Overall a great human. He is kind and wants you to understand the material. Always answers your questions with respect, allows open discussions. 3-4 quizzes and a paper. Will postpone quizzes if the material hasnt been taught enough yet. Take his class! If you can read a couple chapters and take lecture slide notes, you will enjoy his class.
My favourite prof I have had at MUN so far, this is also my second course with Dr. Caman! He truly wants his students to do well and cares about them. The workload is light, weekly quizzes which come straight from the notes & one assignment. I would take every posc course for my degree with him if I could highly, recommend!!!!
Dr. Caman is one of the kindest, most accomodating profs I've had. He can be a little unorganized from time to time but is very approachable and willing to do whatever he can to help you succeed. His course load is pretty light and won't take much of your time.
Dr. Caman sets the standard for a professor. He is a fair grader, great at explaining topics, always tries to accommodate his students wants and needs, talkative, engages with the class often, the list goes on. If you have the chance, take his course.
Caman is a great teacher and mentor. He's funny and always in good mood. He's great at keeping the class entertained with his lectures. He uses Brightspace quite effectively. His enthusiasm especially about democracy and human rights politics is very motivated and develops a student's interest further into the subject. Brilliant prof!
I took POLS1000 and POLS1001 from Caman. He's by far the sweetest prof I ever had. The workload in 1000 wasn't too bad with weekly quizzes, textbook readings, in 1001 article summaries. Overall a great guy, easy-going, clear with what he expects for getting good grades. I love that he clearly has a passion for what she does.
There's not enough good I can say about Dr. Caman! I took his Democracy & Democratization class. My experience: awesome! He has a great personality as a human being and as a teacher. He is the best professor in the Political Science department & is genuinely passionate about what he did. Very fair grader! Take his classes and you won't regret it.
Dr. Caman is uper knowledgeable and makes his lectures easy to follow. Possibly one of the best I have taken in the Political Science department at MUN. I highly recommend it if you are interested in studying Comparative Politics or International Relations. Easy-going and charismatic person. Very intelligent and a genuinely nice guy.
Overall: great prof. Love him
Mehmet is an awesome and caring prof. Loves helping and will tell you exactly how to improve your marks. Presentation, weekly quizzes, a cumulative quiz at the end of the semester - easy peasy for online learning. You can feel he loves his job and he's a genuine person. Very knowledgeable and intelligent. Best prof ever.
10 out of 10. His rating should be considerably higher than it is on this site! He's very kind and hilarious, and you can tell that he really cares about his students. I found him to be super clear on everything that was expected of us. This guy could talk all day about democracy and human rights. A brilliant prof who definitely likes to teach.
Dr. Caman is the best prof you'll ever meet at Memorial University. He really cared about his students and wanted to make sure the course wasn't overwhelming you. His quizzes and final test were not difficult. Just don't miss classes and study his PPT lectures. Readings were easy too.
The best POLS class I've ever attended at MUN! He is passionate about democracy and human rights-related topics. His classes are never boring. He's a very fair grader. Super supportive. Great experience overall.
It was my first class in POLS. He's an amazing lecturer and a great guy. Best prof. Take his classes and you won't regret it. Also a very easy grader!
Prof Caman is amazing! Interesting lectures provide support to do well, always ready to help. He can explain complex things very easily and makes you understand. The readings were ok but got more from the lectures. Plan to take courses from him again.
Dr. Caman is by far the best professor I have had thus far. His lectures were captivating, and his passion for politics and democracy was evident in every class. His personal experiences with politics in turkey made his course that much more interesting and inspiring. If you ever have the chance to take one of his classes, you won't regret it.
The professor gives a partial grade by email, without any specific feedback on the papers. At the end of the course, he changes the partial grades without giving any explanation.
Dr. Caman is so passionate and kind. He is one of the most accommodating professors I've ever encountered at MUN. You can truly tell he cares about teaching and the well-being of his students. He is also a decent grader. The only downside is, that I found he could be very disorganized at times and he doesn't give enough feedback on assignments.
Great prof, extremely genuine and always willing to help his students with any sort of questions, POSC related or not. I found the course to be quite simple and straightforward, however it was a lot of work weekly and over 70% of your mark comes from two assignments you do at the end of the year, rather than the large amount of work you do all sem
I found Dr. Caman to be super approachable and very helpful. His lectures were awesome. He used his own personal experiences and related it back to the course which helped make the content more clear. Overall Dr. Caman was an excellent professor!
I loved Dr. Caman as a person but he is unclear with schedules. We did not have set due dates for our presentations then we were lectured for not having them done "on time". He also does not set dates for the quizzes and changes them around a lot so it is very hard to know when to prepare. Otherwise, he is very accommodating and knowledgeable.
Such an amazing Prof! Dr. Caman really cares about his students and how they do over all in the course.
Dr. Caman is one of the best lecturers. He is such a talented and diligent academic beacon at the University and he teaches with grace and passion. If the University administration lets this professor slip away, they're doing a disservice to their students. I took LWSO 3018 and 3019 and enjoyed them very much.
Dr. Caman is honestly the best professor I have had at MUN thus far. Although he uploads his PowerPoints online after each class, you get much more out of the class if you actually go to it. You can tell that Dr. Caman truly loves teaching this course, I really hope the university comes to its senses and offers him a 3-year contract.
Absolutely one of the best profs at MUN. Funny, caring guy who cares about his students and tries his best to make sure everyone understands the material he is teaching. There are a fair bit of multiple-choice tests in his class, but if you study the material he provides, you should do just fine in his class. 100% would take Mr. Caman again.
He's a very kind person but I find him difficult to understand at times. Grading criteria seem all over the place sometimes or unclear at times. His lectures are him reading slides he makes but the slides are very unorganized. Exam questions can be based on an insignificant example used in a textbook which seemed pretty unfair
Amazing course! Thank you for caring so much for your students!
Dr. Carman is a very caring and kind professor. He does a great job explaining topics and tries to make it interesting for his students. Tests are fair, and relatively easy if you keep up with the readings and study important definitions. Highly recommend taking a class with him!
Dr. Caman is a very caring, and inspirational prof. It doesn't take much to see the effort he puts into his classes, and goes above and beyond. It's great to have a professor interested in what he is teaching!
Professor Caman sometimes struggles to explain more complex topics due to English not being his first language, but is very friendly and graded our midterm on a curve when it appeared the class struggled. Overall a solid professor and very passionate about Political Science.
Dr. Caman is a very caring, kind, and funny professor. Sometimes it can be a little hard to understand his test/exam questions, but he explains concepts really well and is an excellent teacher. I would 100% take him again!
Dr. Caman is a great prof but his lecture notes are difficult to follow and he's sometimes not the most organized. He truly is a caring prof and wants his students to do well- extremely easy grader!
Extremely passionate prof who is always excited to teach. He loves in class discussion but never forces anyone to talk. For anyone interested in polsci, Dr. Caman is perfect for you. His notes, however, are a bit all over the place and lack information so reading the textbook is necessary. But, he is caring and VERY lenient with his grading.
I went to a single class and it was so good, he's so kind and answered questions, I would take this class again just because of this prof and also the people who left bad reviews just because they didn't get a good grades im sorry to say but its your fault just study more and attend the lectures
A great professor and tries his best to make material engaging(even if it can be a bit dry at times). Make sure to study the slides he posts on brightspace as much of the material in the quizzes come from these notes. His midterm was pretty straightforward albeit kind of long for a 50 minute session. Overall, I would take his class again.
Dr. Mehmet Caman is an accommodating and reasonable professor. He is someone who understands life and its struggles. Dr. Mehmet Caman is one of the most caring and thoughtful Professors at Mun. He will do everything he can for you to succeed.
At the beginning of the semester, I had mixed thoughts on how I felt about this course and the professor. After time I noticed Prof. Caman truly cares to see his students do well and pushes his students to all do well. I struggled with this course because politics have never been my thing, but he made sure everyone had the confidence to succeed!
My favourite prof so far. It was an incredible semester with him and I enjoyed going to every single lecture. The way he let us the students lead discussions and learn the material on our own while still giving great feedback and support for our thinkings was amazing. You could truly feel the respect he had for us and how much he valued Poli Sci.
Dr. Caman is without a doubt the best prof I have had so far. He is one of the most respectful, caring, and compassionate people I have ever met and if I could have him as my prof every semester, I would. The topics were often dry, but his personality and passion made up for that. Assessments were difficult, studying is necessary. Highly recommend.
I feel privileged to have had Dr. Caman teach me international human rights, his personal stories relate wonderfully to this course and he is an inspiration. His assessments were difficult and studying is necessary. However, the presentation and research paper were very fair and enjoyable. He takes a while to return assignments. Overall great prof.
From his review's, I had high hopes for Dr.Caman. I did enjoy his class's. They were well put together, and he is obviously very passionate about the subject. But his quizzes and mid term to me were incredibly difficult. He posted everyone's mid term marks, and many people did not do well on it. He did offer a make up essay to add 5-10% though.
Dr. Caman is passionate about Political Science and given hi experience I could not imagine a better professor for the course. His quizzes and exams are difficult and require a lot of studying, but he is accommodating and allows chances for improvement and normally grades on a curve. Best prof I have had and an overall amazing person.
