He?s a new professor at BCCC and one of the best. This man loves what he does and teaches you not only about philosophy, but about life in general. I found him inspiring and could not believe how half the class dropped by the end of semester considering how easy he is with three one page pass/redo papers. There?s a midterm that he gives the ques
Prof Shah is amazing. He is very vivid in the way he teaches and addresses the class and loves the subjects he talks about. he has such passion and enthusiasm and although he may be mistaken for one of the students, hes very easy and funny. he gives 3 1 page essays and a pass/redo grade. 1 exam and a final paper. easy to get an A just be involved.
Dr. Stretch is awesome!!!! This man knows what he's talking about. If you want a good grade, keep an open mind. He's reasonable w/ everything and gives you pass/fail instead of grades. If you don't pass, he lets you retry to pass, so it's a win win. YOU HAVE TO TAKE HIM!!!
Basic probs of philosophy is the class. It was not as easy as potrayed below. Only 5 people passed his second paper. Most had redo's. Does not teach like most. This was not an easy A. Not that I want an easy A. But I feel as though I would have learned much more elsewhere with a different teacher. Will be happy if I even achieve a C.
His class seems hard, but as long as you do the readings and through some way or another demonstrate that you understand what's going on you will do fine. The pass fail papers are not as extreme as the other rater said. I failed 2 of the three 1 page papers and still got a B+ in the class. Just be prepared to read. He is really enthusiastic.
This class seemed hard throughout the course, but it really wasnt. He wants everyone to pass with an A. Just do all your work and come to class and you are literally guaranteed an A. Reqs: 3 one page papers PASS or FAIL only (can retry if you fail), 1 final paper (graded normally), 1 exam (picks 10 from a list of 15 that he gives you beforehand)
Shah is amazing! He was the first class of the day for me and he got my brain going. He is very thought provoking and leads great discussions. He doesn't ask that you do much for homework, read a little bit here and there, but you can pretty much participate w/o reading fully the material. There are 3 1-page papers to do and only 1 test.
Prof. Shah is great. I had him for world religions, and the guy really knows his stuff. There's only 2 things you need to know to do good in his class. You have to want to actually learn somethng, and don't try to BS him, because the guy knows his stuff, as I said. He could just talk on topic forever especially if you're trying to get it.
His lectures for me were very hard to follow but luckily he's an easy grader. when you ask him a question though, dont expect a straight ansewr. trust me, it got fustraiting. but he does give you the questions on the test ahead of time so you kno exactly what will be on it. sweet deal right?
I had Prof. Shah for two classes in the spring. He was a great teacher and really made world religion an interesting course without inputting his own opinions. I would certainly take one of his classes again...
Prof. Shah taught this philosophy class very well. He is a fair teacher and made the information easy to understand...
Prof. Shah expects a lot out of his students. He is a very smart man with obvious higher degrees but he believes that his students in a 100 level class should be on his same level. The class is comprised of 3 pass/fail papers and a midterm. He gets very distracted during class and has a hard time teaching.
Basic Problems of philosophy was an ok class. It was more of learning what Socrates, Plato, and Descartes believed with a few other philosophers. 3 one pg papers and 1 three pg paper. topics were what we learned. Shah would have you read out of class then the next class you would discuss the topic.
I am just finishing up his class now. This class was very boring to me tough to stay interested. But Shah is very prepared for class and is an easy grader. Most papers are opined based so makes it easy. Also exam questions are given before hand so you can study. Shah is the nicest guy.
Shah is a nice guy, but he is not a very good teacher. His lectures are very hard to follow because he goes off topic every 2 minutes. His grading system is non existent. he gives you what he feels like giving you, not what you worked for. Take him if you want your GPA to take a bad hit. Class was also very boring. Terrible experience!
Truly an amazing teacher. Take this class if you're interested in learning philosophy, not if you're just taking the class as a requirement. Shah is very passionate about what he teaches and makes sure every student is comfortable and understanding. One of the very best teacher's I've ever had at bucks. I heavily recommend taking his class(es).
What a god awefull teacher. his grading is terrible most of the time it was either pass or fail. He did not explain his paper assigments that he assigned what so ever. By the half way point of the semester more than half the class droped out. DONT TAKE HIM!
You won't be bored...he has very good lectures. He does hold everyone up to very high standards. Thankfully, he has pass/fail papers though, so basically all you need is a C to get an A in the class (and do the smaller assignments).
He's an amazing teacher. He really knows a lot and, when he does go off topic, it's stuff you find interesting or is related to the class in some way. He's funny and very approchable. His grading scale was kind of weird but it made sense. And honestly, you have to put in work to fail this class. Either that or you're just unintelligent.
Really great teacher. had him last semester. Very interesting and not boring. Fun class to take.
Good teacher Knows his stuff. Gets off subject, but interesting. Must attend class. Wants everyone to pass. 3-4 papers (chance to redo and graded pass/fail, 1 midterm but gives you the essay questions ahead of time. I did learn about a subject I had no interest in because of him. I probably would take him again.
Goes off topic a lot and comes to class with a *general* idea of what he wants to teach... but I would still recommend him most days as he's very dedicated to what he teaches (and it shows). Lets you know when and what he is grading you on and if you try you will do well. Opinionated but that's not so bad because it gives you some perspective.
Learned the History of the Philosophy of Science from him. He is dynamic and probing. He has a Socratic rapport but is also good at explaining things when asked.
I took Shah's philosophy class in the spring and he teaches like really wants his students to learn the material and apply it to their lives as well. He is always willing to answer questions and he has a helpful way of making his students figure out a solution on their own. The work for his class is not difficult. Overall Shah is a great teacher!
I would not recommend this professor. He does not post your grade for the class so you have no idea where you stand until the final day the grades need to be posted on web adviser. Professor Shah gets frustrated when students can not grasp what he teaches. If you like a professor who goes off topic all the time, take professor Shah.
If you don't want to be enlightened, then don't take the class. If you're ignorant, you'll hate it even more. The primary objective for his class is to make you think. That's it. All he asks is for participation so he can receive your perception on things, and once you do, he questions your thesis. It was an awesome experience! Great professor.
Fun class. Very knowledgeable professor. Learned a lot.
Awesome and super smart dude. Participate every day and he'll love you. There is homework after every class so beware!
If you are taking this professor online I would not recommend him. He is very unclear on what he wants for assignments especially discussion post. This class is fairly easy but, he makes it difficult because of his lack of guidelines for assignments which in results hurts your overall grade.
Took him for summerIII , fairly easy class. Just do all of your assignments & read the books , & you will get an A easily.
Took the class hoping to learn more about the practice of Buddhism, but as a philosophy prof he was more interested in belaboring a few obscure, minor points of philosophy than giving a comprehensive overview. Lectures are unfocused, meandering & repetitive. He talks way too loud for the size of the room & doesn't wrap up at the end of class time.
SHAH IS THE MANNNN! Nothing but love for him! His classes are fun, you feel connected with everyone. He really cares about his students! Work load isn't much but its college so expect it. Very generous with paper rewrites and test (game). You will need your cell phone out on your desk for his class!!!!!
I would nerve take this professor again. His not helpful at all.
I had this professor for an online class over the summer and I hated it. He assigns a lot of work which makes it difficult if you are working a summer job . He is also very, very, very unclear in his directions and a harsh grader. I definitely do not recommend him if you are taking him online over the summer.
There are only 3 essays( 500 words) the 3rd essay was ec! The essays are based on facts so you can't get anything wrong(pass/fail paper) U can rewrite them. 1 in class exam( google will be your buddy) Final paper(1500 words) first page of the final paper is the first essay you write. 1 discussion post/quizzes(notes on board) Overall a good class!
In class exam is given from the beginning, 1 final paper, 2 essays. Information is given on canvas &u have book to help u out. 3rd essay was optional. I took the hybrid class so it was 1 discussion post each Friday. Couple of quizzes were given with unlimited tries. Everything is there. U just need to put in a little bit of effort & you'll get an A
Professor Shah is a great professor and is a very understanding guy. He really urges you to participate, so do so. He has a funny sense of humor and somehow ties everything he talks about (no matter how random it is) into the lectures. Just put the time and effort in and you will get a good grade.
His expectations for how much he wants you to for such a short time is unrealistic. He is the ONLY professor I know who teaches an online summer class that forces students to take his only test in the testing center. Basically if you don't have a religion figured out 100% within 3 days you won't get full credit for assignments. Don't take him.
Took him online in the summer to get my religion credits for my major, do not take him if your expecting an easy summer course because thats what I did. His papers are pass fail and even if you have one thing he doesn't like in them he will give u a bad grade, i resubmitted a paper 3 times before i got a good grade!
The the kind of work given for this entry level class is insane. Not only is the test for this online class not online but the final paper is a complete joke. The range of topics covered in the finale paper is so meticulous. It's a paper to show less of what a person knows and more about the teachers ego. Do yourself a favor don't take him.
I am not afraid to work but this class was over the top. Quizzes are difficult and NOWHERE in his "notes". Papers are pass/fail and he nitpicks and has to agree with you. Only prof I know to demand paper/pen test in the testing center during an ONLINE course. Discussion board and Quiz every 3 days. Hardest class of my Bachelors hands down.
This was a difficult course but I do not regret taking it. Rumors are true, there is a pen/pencil test if you take it online but he gave a months notice, you can take it online if you have to through proctor U and a study guide. The information is there. Readings and regular discussion boards. He answers questions promptly and will work with you.
Took a philosophy class with him, the class pretty much requires you to remember passages taken from 60+ page texts that he makes you read. The philosophy class I took has great potential to actually impact your life but sadly the professor focuses on things that are related on specific exerts rather then actual philosophical concepts.
I forget the course code, but it was an entry level philosophy class. Took it in the spring and loved the course/prof! He gives you the final exam questions on day one, was super clear about everything. Amazing discussions, will expect you to participate. I think he allowed three absences. Do the readings and go to class and you'll be fine!
Good and random lectures, but be more than prepared to read everything, it's not a joke. Knows his stuff, but be prepared to read to understand everything he never mentioned. Big on participation, but will probably get a laugh out of class. Google is your friend.
Three pass/fail papers (500 words)(needs B or higher to pass), one test, and one final paper (1500 words). All with clear explanations of what you need, provided from the beginning. He even gave all of the exact questions for the test to prepare. Use the book or Google heavily. A lot of work but a really good class. Solid recommendation.
None of his assignments instructions were clear or impactful, you have to go through nearly every single link in the Canvas app to figure out how to complete one assignment correctly. Unrealistic grading criteria. Learned more from BBC than him. Completely regret taking the course.
Im surprised by all the negative comments. This class is super easy. He is very clear about the grading system. There are only 3 essays max 500 words, 1 test( which he gives you all the questions to the test on the first day via canvas), and a final paper. Just show up, listen, and participate. He also has the best sense of humor.
This was the most enjoyable class of the entire semester. Stretch really knows what he is talking about and I think that many of the bad reviews on here are based off his teaching method. I actually learned a ton from this class because instead of reading out of a textbook and giving tests he makes you use you're brain.
There are 10 discussion boards and 10, 10 pt. quizzes. (Not including introduction db) The quizzes are easy and so are the dbs but never gives full credit on dbs. There are 3 essays, two you can resubmit and the final you cannot. There is one test which is annoying especially for an online course. Not the best course but certainly not the worst.
Professor Shah was great. The Canvas set up was easy to follow and he made things easy to understand. Great introduction to Philosophy if you've never been into it. The only thing that didn't work is that none of the material is very connected, but he is receptive to feedback and made a note on that.
He is a very difficult grader. Does not emphasize on anything that you read. Just tells you to read and hope for the best. So, if you're not a good reader then i would suggest you don't take him, for there is A LOT of reading. You can pour your heart into the topic at hand and he'll still manage to have negative feedback and issues out poor grades.
One of my favorite professors. He really wanted you to understand, and would take the time to address any questions. Feels intimidating to ask a question but he will always respond with helpful information. Material didn't really fully make sense until his lectures. Makes sure you are confident with the material before he tests.
Took this class online. Assignments and expectations not clearly communicated. Feedback is minimal. Assignment expectations were updated and no announcements made. I enjoyed the material but did not learn from the teacher or the exercises.
I learned a lot from his lessons. The class was interesting, and he always tried to make it interesting. If you will truly work on assignments and prepare for the exam, you will get everything you want like grade, feedback, and help. If you need help, he will help.
After taking a course with Professor Shah, I can not stop thinking. I find myself strategizing and challenging myself as a thinker. Ive learned valuable lessons on life that I can take with me wherever I go. If youre looking for a philosophical thinker, look no further.
As an intro level class you would think he would be more straightforward on what he wants from you when writing papers, but hes not. The way he picks everything wrong with any paper you turn in and then gives you a pass/fail grade is ridiculous. The academic center looked over my paper, said it was good and I still got a fail on it. DONT take him
Stretch is the man! Loved taking intro to Ethics, class was always interesting. He did a good job of making sure his students took something from the class, outside of just getting a grade. Would not recommend Ethics with any other professor
Professor is an incredibly difficult grader for discussions and will find any reason to take off points no matter what. Gives tons of readings from other people and nothing else then considers it a lesson. As a positive, he certainly gives feedback on just about every grade.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! He is awful at communicating, you will work your butt off and somehow STILL be wrong. There is no designed lesson it is just youtube videos that are extremely long. I learned nothing from this class other than I now hate philosophy. Save yourself the troubles and find someone/ something else to take.
Honestly one of worst professors Ive had at Bucks. Most of the class he discussed things that didnt pertain to class. He changed a due date for a paper to a week earlier than it was due because he didnt like the amount of class participation also stated the Syllabus was a contract we signed by showing up on day one. I would avoid his class
There are no words I can describe this professor. This professor is the Worst professor ever! First, he doesn't explain well. Second, He will let you purchase a book online, and you have to read long chapters in a short amount of time. Third, If you have any questions he will never answer it. Fourth, He will take forever to respond. Waste of time
really confused by this class. for all the assignments, i would read the notes and watch the lectures he posted and i would take the answers from there. he always said they were not good enough and even went as far as to say they were wrong. So confused how I passed with an A. only good side was he gave pass/fail papers and u could retake quizzes.
Horrible at lecturing and answering questions. He goes off-topic a lot. I had a class 10 mins right after his class and he was always going overtime with class. We used the book "How to win every argument" or something along those lines which is what caught my attention. I ended up going to youtube to lecture me on what he teaches in class.
Stretch is awesome hes absolutely hilarious and literally knows everything! He made this class really enjoyable and I would absolutely take another class with him. Hes a tough grader but he also isnt the type of teacher that just gives out good grades just doe doing the assignments, he makes you work for your grade.
This class was so frustrating. It was an online course and most of the notes werent clear, so be prepared to do some outside research on top of the 20 pages of notes youre taking a week. Also he doesnt bother answering questions because he wants you to answer them yourself. Even if its a question about a due date or how to use proctor U.
Confusing, disorganized, frustrating. Lectures are all over the place, has us solve random puzzles that don't relate to topic. What he teaches doesn't even relate to what he wants in a paper, and expects you to read lots of long articles. Says you can leave the class, but he's the only one who teaches the course. If u need it for credit good luck.
The sources to find answers for work are all over the place. There is a lack of organization and direction. Where can we find the answers in dozens of articles per topic? So far, an insufferable class.
Don't take him. Awful class and really shouldn't be working here since you don't really learn much from him. He just shoves all the work off to long articles and his lectures are all over the place. Hopefully the college finds more HUMN professors to fill his spot because this is not it.
In the most respectful way possible, hes kind of a jerk at times. Not the most patience a professor could have. The final paper is related to the course but is based on concepts we never covered.
he’s a nice guy so it sucks to give him a bad review. i didn’t believe the reviews about him being bad and took the class anyways, but i regret it. He gives lectures about random stuff the entire class-and keeps going even when class is suppose to be over. He is very unorganized and is a tough grader even though he doesn’t teach the criteria.
Professor Shah is excellent at his profession! He's very informative with feedback that helps you understand his lessons. I've never been interested in Ancient History however I have learned so much and what I didn't understand he was very quick to respond to questions. Although no textbooks were used, his readings and videos were very informative!
My Ethics class was ELearning so completely online. Tough grader, but each week the work was very straightforward and uniform. Average workload amount. At the end of the semester I was close to an A and i emailed him about turning things in late and he allowed me to and then rounded me up to an A. Which he didn't have to do, and was very kind.
AVOID THIS PROF LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!
Very difficult to understand the criteria for grading. His grading was subjective and it was hard to get a hold of him. He's a nice person but a little all over the place as a professor. Not an easy class but doable
He was cool the 3 papers you had to write you need a lot of material and he's a tough grader but he gives you feedback and tells you what you need to do to fix it and you can re-write it not that hard of a class.
I got an A because I worked my tail off but this guy is just the worst. He leaves rude comments on your work that are not constructive at all and takes points off for elements he never asked for or required. He needs every last word of your papers to be perfect and the way he would write it or he will fail you.
Do not take this professor. Extremely unclear with any directions given on assignments, all grading is entirely subjective to EXACTLY what he would want. His comments on Canvas are relatively rude and do not help in anyway shape or form. Also, there is no lecture you are expected to learn from long readings that don't make any sense.
His grading rubric is very unclear and your grade in canvas is not your actual grade in his class. His writing assignments are so complex and difficult because he feels like every student uses AI to write their paper. He never gave a lecture in class, but makes attendance apart of your grade so you have to show up. I will not be taking him again.
He leaves snarky comments on your work. In order to pass you can't submit what you learned or what you thing/want you have to submit what he wants which is usually cryptic and irrelevant.
Disrespectful to students.
This professor gives very little detail for assignments. He is a tough grader on top of that.
Reading these reviews reassure me that I was not the only one to have this experience. He is a very tough grader and no matter how hard you try, if its not the exact answer he is looking for you will not receive credit. I was shocked by the responses he left on my discussion post, not constructive at all just rude and degrading.
Does not have any clear grading rubric for Discussions or Papers, does not have a comprehensive syllabus to help you understand how he grades. Took an Introduction to Philosophy class and as an introductory course it seemed I was in a position where I should have come with knowledge and standards that I am not aware of.
Unprofessional, fails to offer constructive feedback. Instructions are vague. Despite following the provided instructions, substantial points were deducted without any reason. When I ask for clarification, I am ignored.
He doesn't make his grading clear. He loves taking off points for not including every little detail he had in mind when writing a subjective question for discussion or an essay. Very complex essay topics with very low word counts that made it impossible to do well.
This professor had non communicated expectations. He clearly has an idea of exactly how he wants your points to be made in your essays, and if you don't do it exactly as he would he will dock many points. He also refuses to give 100s on many assignments. I got back several that were a 24/25 or 15/16 and so on. With 0 reason given as to why.
This professor was a nightmare! I regret not looking at his reviews before selecting the course. He was an intense grader. He knew exactly what he wanted to see in your essays and submissions, but he wouldn't tell you. He'd just dock points and a lot of them. His comments weren't helpful, mostly just snarky and degrading.
Very unprofessional. If it does not meet his standards then he has no problems marking a paper as failed. What is on his paper guidelines isn't what you're being graded on and it shows in his comments left on the paper. He believes that deceiving students is teaching, but it isn't. Avoid this professor.
Grading was based on (his) subjective interpretation. Expectations were never clear, and he took points off for things he never asked for. His feedback was vague and sometimes snarky. I ended up withdrawing from this class because it was impossible to succeed with his grading and teaching approach. This professor was the worst I've had at Bucks.
