Very strict class, but fun teacher! Studying and speaking up is key to this class!

Middelstadt is tough! I learned so much from her class, though, I transferred from SFCC and still use the information from that class in almost all my other classes.

This is the hardest class that I took at SFCC and the most enjoyable one as well. Middelstadt is a ver intimidating teacher and she will require you to do some serious thinking. I highly recomend this class to any student who likes a challange or is planing to move on to a four year school.

Warning: don't expect to read her handwriting...it's terrible! Don't worry about her accent either. She speaks perfect english, but has a pretty educated vocabulary (some classmates just had blank stares @ certain words). She's biased, but she admitted that up front. Subjective grader (I got 2B's and A on tests w/ a great final and got a 3.8)

German born, Interesting teacher when you pay attention. Papers, lectures, notes, notes, and more paperwork. Expect a challenge.

very difficult classload, a lot to learn not just memorize, essay questions for tests, world issues, good teacher but lots of work, very liberal, do not share views unless you really know what you're talking about because she will make you look stupid

Very hard prof! She's German and has very different ideas about politics (and education) than Americans. If you spout off uninformed opinions in class or in papers/tests, she will quickly put you in your place. Very nice lady overall though, especially if you can chat with her in German.

Middelstadt, I loved your classes so much, I only wish I could have told you the way I felt about you. The classes you taught still impacted and influence my perceptions about the world. People have told me that I think too much about various aspects of our social issues, but I can't go back, nor do I know how to go back to thinking less critically. Thank you.

This lady knows what she's talking about. But you better be ready to work when you step into her class.

This is one of the best classes I have ever taken. The content is challanging, but she really knows what she is talking about. She is the smartest professor I've had in 3 years of college. This is not a class that you can B.S. your way through...know what you're talking about or she will throw it in your face. She's friendly when you talk to her.

FREAKIN HARD CLASS but I ran to each lecture to make sure I didn't miss anything. Lectures are actually FUN to listen to and its even more interesting if you get into discussions! There's no BSing your way through this one, but I'll take as much of her classes as I need becasue this smart-German-lady knows what the heck she's talking about!

Fun class. Great lady as long as you respect her and others in class. If you disagree with her you need to be able to back yourself up with reasons and facts not just what your parentss told you. Excellent class. Learned a ton. Not a Polysc major but will take what I learned and apply it to the rest of my life. Would highly recommend to others.

Middelstadt's a way cool teacher. Very cool class. Not the easiest of courses, but if you read the chapters on schedule you're good. Also she's quite the looker.

Tough, but good class. Over half my class failed, I was the only one with a 4.0. Super interesting class, and she is VERY smart! Be able to support your opinions and you'll be fine. Oh yeah, she's easy on the eyes too!!

Tremendously difficult class, but one of my favourites. Her grading is fair, but you have to kind of guess at it, and resembles perfectionism. Her lectures are very stimulating, and discussions can get really heated! There's a lot of reading: dense, dull, but relevant. And tests are painful. This class is for actually learning, not pruning the GPA.

Allthough her classes are difficult she has a talent to make them so much fun and interesting that the class turns out to be easier than you think (your learning without knowing that you a learning). Maike IS the best professor I know. She has a love for teaching and her students. She also loves coffee and Hershey's.

She is an excellent teacher and fun to listen to. Just be prepared to work for your grade and it's helpful to have some kind of knowledge about globalization going into the course. It is my favorite class I have taken at the falls and you really learn a lot. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Absolutely my favorite teacher ever! Even though I have moved on to graduate school, I think of her often and in great admiration.

Very tough and involved class. If you can form well-thought out opinions AND defend them, you will do great. As long as you actively listen to her lectures, her accent won't get in the way, if you let yourself drift at all in class, you're done for. She's very passionate about the material. I wish I could take more classes from her before leaving.

She is AMAZING! This class was incredible, true I did not get the best grade I could have, but I loved showing up to class everyday and learning from her. The group discussions are so great because she makes it so we can really get involved, and she is super accomidating, if there is...say... the harry potter premier.just study!

She is a nice person just has a very strong personality, you have to go to class EVER TIME!!!! Need your text book and pay attention the exams arn't impossible you just have had to be intune with the class.

Meike is an awesome teacher, her lectures are very interesting!

At first, Meike and her lectures were very interesting. However, she was extremely judgmental when it came to topics such as religion. During one lecture, she went out of her way to tell everyone that if they have religion, to go home and "rethink" it. Other than that, (and her thick accent), she was interesting and knew her material. 6/10.

I had her for 2 different classes and had 2 completely different experiances. i absolutely dreaded her class in International Relations, but i really enjoyed in in American Gov, i actually got an A in that class. So it depends on the class! shes funny though

She is really intimidating but teaches her material, book necessary and home NEVER late; have to be their EVERY DAY! hw same every week which is nice. Tests pretty hard, HUGE part of your grade. But class do-able

200 ? final killed me. Here is a tip to master the final. Each week there is a 20 ? online quiz take screen shot of your results (know which answers you got right) and save up all the screen shots from each week and you will have all the answers to the final. The final is all the quizes added up so write down your answers and always do the quizes

Took this class online over the summer so it was a lot of information and a lot of work in a short amount of time, but if you read the chapters and participate in the discussion boards, you'll do fine. quizzes were pretty basic,but timed. Also, she doesn't want to hear personal political opinions, wants unbiased feedback of what you learned.

I took her Online American Government course. She definitely makes her students earn their grade. A LOT of reading involved as well as multiple choice quizzes that are worded kind of odd. But overall, I learned a lot.

I had Meike for Global Issues. She was amazing! She is german and has a slight accent, which I also loved. Her class was tough but managable. Her tests were somewhat hard, but she gives you a very helpful study guide. To pass this class you have to get read and show up! Her lectures were interesting which made it easy to come. I would reccomend her

Meike is a very passionate teacher and an excellent lecturer. She's very funny, and hearing her outside perspective on the U.S. is very interesting. However, she does expect you to do the work, and if you expect to pass this class without doing the assigned readings and attending often, bad news.

She is great! She keeps class interesting and really makes you think. Don't take this class if you don't have an open mind. She is strict, especially with absences, but reasonable. She doesn't put you on the spot, unless you volunteer an uninformed opinion. If you don't put in time and effort you won't do well. If you want to LEARN she is great.

Meike is passionate about political science, and KNOWS HER STUFF. Anything you don't understand she knows and can knowledgeably and clearly explain. She is also open to opinions, even if they are completely against her own beliefs, as long as you can support your opinions well. However this is NOT an easy class; show up and do your work!

She is AWESOME & knows her stuff (Prof. Suttle is her American male twin, so take him too :'D). Very helpful but the quizzes stink. Loved the discussion forums though. Write what you know & know it well. So long as you do iffy at worst on the quizzes and above average on the discussions, you'll get a 4.0. Don't be a slacker & actually do your work.

Professor Mittelstadt is by far one of the most dedicated professors I have ever had. I learned tons from her class. However I had difficulties with my grade in this class, but she contacted me repeatedly and my counselor as well in attempts to help. She is a great teacher. I highly recommend this class

It was a hybrid class, we only met two days a week. Attendance was mandatory and was graded. It was a tough course, but if you keep up with the homework (There's a lot) and do not fall behind, you' ll do fine. Tests are not that hard if you study the materials she gives you.

Great class, great instructor, I really enjoyed the group discussions and the overall material covered throughout the course.

If you value education strictly as a means to an end, then you may not want to take this class. This is a very challenging course and Meike expects a lot from her students. However, what you put into it you'll receive tenfold. Elements of philosophy, history, sociology, and psychology. I learned so much and I am very grateful. Tough but rewarding.

Look, Meike's class is tough. But I'm telling you, you will not regret taking this class. You might not understand what she is talking about yet, give it a few more quarters of college and you will. I appreciate everything I've learned from her. Just do the work and don't complain too much. She is an awesome person.

I took her my second quarter of college and she was tough. She was very helpful though. Willing to help you with anything you need and teaches you about life outside of america. I like that just to see what the other parts of the world is like. Hard to read her hand writing but you can follow along easy.

I've taken two classes with Meike and I find that she is a great professor. But I know some do not enjoy her style of teaching. Her classes are a mix of seminar/lecture. Each week there is a reading, hw and a quiz. Some weeks you double up which means double the work. Meet the criteria and you'll get a good grade. One of my harder classes taken.

She was super fun, very pretty and easy to understand. She was very supportive and gave the most help possible. She is flexible and understanding that things happen and gives you all the tools to succeed. I recommend taking this class if you want to learn and pass.

heavy work load but very manageable. Online was pretty easy, work in the online textbook and a quiz each week. She gives you good study guides but be careful trying to cut corners in he assignments, she takes plagiarism/cheating very seriously.

I'm honor. 2 Cornell notes wk for 2 textbook. Meet2times&1Canvas quiz wk. Every student prepare 1wk seminar in group&1 group research project. 2exams&1final all test on Canvas. She often cut in and talk a lot during seminar. 3hr office hr wk. ToughHW but down to earth,be mental prepared if want take her for honor.

This class was definitely difficult. You have to do plenty of reading every week and the tests (which are most of your grade) are not easy. That being said, this professor wants you to be successful and understand the material. She responded quickly to emails as well and overall, if you're willing to work hard, this is the class for you.

I struggled in this class, but that's because I struggle with political science. There is a chapter to read, a few easy assignments, a little harder discussion, and a quiz each week. Quizzes are easy, and discussions just took some time. Exams are important, so study. She sometimes boosts your score up. Mieke is very smart and open to discussion.

I took her class online, and it's normal. She assigns homework and quizzes every week, but good due dates. She does expect you to study every day for the exams, but the textbook is handy and can help you a lot. She is kind when it comes to late work, depending on if the website is in maintenance or other stuff going around in your life.

The Good Part: She is very clear about her expectations, and the homework is easy. The bad part: The tests are LONG and HARD. Overall, great professor for anyone who is just getting into politics!

Expect very long exams that will significantly impact your grade. The quizzes and homework are easy but the exam grades are the main things that really matter in terms of affecting your grade.

The online course was almost entirely through the textbook website except for the exams. Material was straight from the book, although I would recommend trying to find a used physical copy online. I only ever used the textbook and never watched lectures. She was always responsive over Canvas and the course material was pretty interesting.

While not exactly apolitical, it is interesting to hear her point of view considering she is a german immigrant. She will grill you on your political opinions, mainly because she wants you to be informed. She often asks for sources on claims. She does a pretty good job on sourcing her claims with evidence. Class involved alot of reading.

She has incredible energy. One quiz and one interactive hw per week with 3 exams through the quarter. Communication and honesty goes a long ways with her. She teaches objectively while delivering her lectures with so much character and enthusiasm. I hope to take another class with her. Buckle up, follow your calendar and you will do just fine!

She is such a peak professor, I had only positive experiences with her. I was originally worried about having negative experiences with her based on the comments, but she was respectful of everyone!
