Dr. Almus is a great professor, she teaches well, she makes everything clear and simple. Attendance is mandatory. There is A LOT of HW (weekly) and EMCF (every other day), plus online quizzes which are a good practice and time consuming as well. Although I got an A in class, but i wont take with her again due to the load of work. Good Luck :)
Almus is a good teacher; she goes through examples well and is very clear. The exams are a good representation of what you learn in the class, as well as the online quizzes. Her notes can be very messy though, so looking back at them can be very confusing. I chose to take her again for Calc 2 though, I like her as a teacher :)
Good teacher overall but she can go pretty fast in class so attendance is required. LOTS of homework. The grade you get is the grade you deserve.
AWESOME!!! She's very nice and goes over the problems step by step. Come to class everyday for the poppers however, she lets the class out late the entire time but she gave out a lot of free poppers. I could have made an A but I missed one quiz. Home works are easy and do not miss a quiz
Dr. Almus is very passionate over not only mathematics, but in teaching as well. She is quite concerned when it comes to communicating all of the topics of the course. Taking this course during May Mini, we had to cram in a lot of material in a short amount of time. Even in the face of the short session, Dr. Almus made the course very enjoyable!
Professor Almus is a great professor and explains most of the topics very well. I hated calc in HS so I was afraid, but I really liked the class. She gives a lot of homework, but it definitely helps you retain what you learned in lecture. Go to class! There are poppers pretty much everyday and being there helps the notes that she posts make sense
She's a horrible professor. All of my friends can explain calculus better than she can teach. She's confusing, didn't really give helpful examples in her lecture. Most of the quiz question were a lot harder and her lecture didn't really help on anything at all. I understand nothing in her class even though I was very attentive in her lecture.
GREAT PROFESSOR!Almus is extremely helpful, I loved her class & I am excited to take Cal 2 with her! She responds to emails very fast as well.I have sent her photos of my work before with questions& she responded with a written out answer. You NEED TO PRACTICE-otherwise, awesome class! Put in the effort, study time, and practice and you'll do great!
Excellent Professor
Dr. Almus is a great professor, and teaches really well. She also has a good grading scale. Only negative complaint is that she gives TONS of HOMEWORK. This homework helps you in the long run, but when you have several other classes it just becomes a inconvenience. If you do not turn in homework, you will get a zero on the previous weeks quiz.
pretty easy class, need to attend lectures to understand her notes, a TON of homework and quizzes (but its easy), poppers in class EVERYDAY so you need to come to class, everything online. Basically just do the homework and come to class and you can get an A very very easily
She goes pretty fast, but if you keep up to date, you should be good. Review your notes and stay on top of your work. Overall, great teacher, and I definitely recommend.
In comparison to taking Calculus 1 in high school, Calculus 2 in college with Almus was EASIER. Yes, easier. She is incredibly explanatory in the lectures she gives, posts all lecture notes online, and gives very good reviews for tests and online question sessions a few days before the test. Kind, extreme helpful, and has a good sense of humor. A++
She is an amazing calculus prof. Before, I was really bad at math, but I ended up making an A. HOWEVER, there is a TON of work, but it ends up helping you in the long run. She's a very cheerful person, which makes math a little better. Tests are easier than the hw and material. My TA was Angelynn Martinez and she's wonderful and easy to understand
Excellent professor! I'm taking her for Calculus II as well!
She is a great professor who really knows her material, and allows us to understand it just as well. Her tests are not difficult if you understand the material. Homework is due on every Monday in the lab. Popper-Attendance. I recommend you print out the lecture notes before the lecture, and keep up with her when she's explaining the material.
I took business calculus, pre-calculus and calculus I. Each time a different Prof, Dr. Almus is the worst. She is good but not good enough. She try to make everything simple but to me, it's only more confusing. But I'm pretty good as math and can study by myself and absolutely have no problem. She gives a lot of exercises. She won't tolerate noise.
Lets start by saying that i actually like math in general and i've always had good grades. She takes daily attendance and after your 3rd absence she deducts 1% of your grade. Her tests and quizzes are not hard as long as you study a bit and memorize the formulas. She keeps you interested and is funny. Her notes are a little hard to understand.
Pros: Almus teaches well, nice teacher, very easy class if you pay attention and do all the assignments, very enthusiastic Cons: lots and lots of assignments!! Attendance mandatory, miss class and you will not understand her notes at all, sometimes will direct you to TAs for help instead of her, gets mad at entire class if one guy is talking
Easy to pay attention if you don't struggle with math. Success comes easy if you pay attention.
She is an amazing math professor. When I showed up to class I always understood everything she was teaching. The class is a lot of work, though, so you need to keep up. She's helpful, funny, and obviously cares for her students. I thought calculus was going to be difficult, but it really wasn't bad. Full disclosure: I hate math with a passion.
She was alright, people hyped so much about her though.
Compared to Cal 1 in high school, Cal 2 in college with Almus was EASIER. Yes, easier. She is incredibly explanatory in the lectures she gives, posts all lecture notes online, gives tons of extra credit, and has very convenient office hours in case you struggle in class. She is kind, extreme helpful, and even has a good sense of humor. A++
She teaches good! I took CALC 1 at WCJC so CALC 2 was tough for me at UH. She has poppers for attendence, 4 tests, a quiz online each week, homework packet each week, EMCF'S & a quiz each friday in math lab, just like the rest of the CALC 2 teachers at UH. I never went to math lab except on friday to take the quiz. My lab teacher sucked though
Her class is easy and interesting. Because of her lecture, all of my tests are 105(with 5 extra points). Love her!!
Poppers, lab quizzes, lab classwork, EMCFs, online quizzes, homework , tests.. you're going to be busy! If you give everything else your all, the tests will be easy. Last two tests before final are harder than you'll think. Timed tests, and not much time given, except for final. Positive, inspiring attitude.
Great Professor. As long as you do all of her EMCFs, Quizess, Poppers and HW etc you will do fine on the exams. The Online quizzes are 10x harder that the exam questions lol. She drops a few attendance grades at the end. Do your work and your sure to get an A !
I took her for Cal 1 and wow I learned more calculus in a semester than I did in a year back at my high school. She explains concepts clearly and helps you at the end of the class or at CASA. The workload is a bit high but if you follow her calendar and strive for good grades on the quizzesEMCFSHws you will pass. The tests are easier than QEHw.
If you're good at math, it is easy. A lot of homework, quizzes and EMCFs, but that's all math classes at UH. Hard to understand her methods sometimes. Gets frustrated easily if people talk and stops the lecture. Easy tests, hard quizzes. If you received an A on final, you get an A on the class. Not sure if she will do it again this semester.
Hello class, I'm glad you came back from spring break. She has a sweet voice when she welcomes everyone, while her students are just tired, and she's funny on coffee with a usual upbeat mood. Her notes are sometimes messy, and she doesn't like cells ringing. She encourages you to work for that A even after Spring break is over.
She got upset very easily during lectures when people were talking, but she drops a lot of poppers, quizzes, and other grades at the end of the semester. I preferred Bekki George, but Almus isn't bad.
Her lectures were never clear to me. She does have an accent and it would get in the way when I was trying to understand what she would say. Her handwritingnotes are really sloppy. I could never look back at her notes for help because it is hard to read. She would hold class a few mins late just to get through with lecture. She is sassy as well.
Second time taking her for a math course. I thought she was funnier, and more relaxed in Calc 2 compared to Calc 1 to be honest. Clear, and understandable, made it look really easy. I do recommend her, though expect to work really hard in completing assignments. Do this, if you do not expect to get a 95 on the final. Also, I am glad I took her!
As long as you attend her lecture and do the quizzes and homework on time, you should get an A easily. Not to mention the tests are easy too. She is really nice and her lectures are clear. She did her best to let everyone receive a good grade. Tons of extra credits! I will take her class again if available.
A cheerful, talented teacher who can explain concepts from several different viewpoints. Conveys a genuine enthusiasm for math. The amount of homework, tests and quizzes is insane, but it certainly keeps you from falling behind in class. Exams aren't as difficult, and there's ample "extra credit." Department's online textbook was less than useless.
Professor Almus is great! She takes such difficult concepts and makes them easy to understand. She goes a little fast at times, so you have to keep up with the concepts. Overall, I really enjoyed her class. She really wants you to be successful. I definitely suggest taking her.
Like any math class, the homework load is a bit rigorous and some assignments are simply a completion grade which means, at least for me, hardly any effort was put into it. Personally I feel as though if she was to reduced the workload and make it about quality not quantity it would produce better results. Good teacher though... time was an issue.
Easy A class if you show up and do her review.
Almus is supposed to be a goddess, at least that's what they say. Although I have nothing negative to say about her I also don't think she was the greatest professor ever. She is clear and to the point. That is all. Of course if you aren't good at math you are going to struggle, but labs are super helpful.
For summer-online-calculus class- If you work full time, this class will suck the life out of you. She frequently went over the allotted lecture time by 15min and there was a lot of work. I buckled down and put all my spare time into this class and still didn't do well even though I'm fairly good at math. She also talks really fast, hard to keep up
Dr Almus is the best math professor! She explains even the most difficult subjects clearly. Assigns homework but it pays off. Tests are not that difficult. Should attend class and do the work. I love her teaching style- want to take Calculus 3 from her.
Take Dr. Almus! She's a great math teacher, and a character as well. She's really nice and bubbly, but underneath it she's super sassy! Her lectures are well prepared and she has great communication skills. I had her for online Cal 1 summer class and Cal 2 now. I love this teacher and would take her for every math class if I could.
LOVE ALMUS She's sassy (in a good way) she's fair and she's a great professor. Obviously there is the required work in any math class but she helps us understand whats up! I LOVE HER!!! She has online notes and quizzes. The practice tests are also worth 5 points added on to the actual test!
Very easy class whether your good at math or not. There would be a lot of quizes as well as homework. She posts her notes right after class which is so helpful. I will definitely take class with her again.
He reads off powerpoint slides. Not clear and boring. Have to learn a lot on your own. Then again all UH chem1331 professors are pretty bad. Good luck
This professor is very nice at teaching and to students! She has notes ready to print to bring to class and even if you miss lecture she posts lectures on her website (not recommending to skip though!) Actually looking forward to taking her next semester for Calculus 2! Just do the online quizzes and hw and you'll be fine!
Having taken pre-cal in high school and being completely lost the entire time, Almus made everything so much easier to understand in Calc 1. By far the best math teacher/prof Ive ever had. There are a lot of quizzes but you get 20 tries on each so you should keep doing them until you get a 100. 10/10 take Almus, she is funny and an amazing prof
Almus is a great lecturer. She explains everything clearly. You need to go to class if you want to really understand the material.
Almus is wonderful! She made this class very easy and straightforward. She explains topics clearly, is very sweet and personable, and does everything she can to help out her students. There's a lot of quizzes and homeworks but they're necessary if you really want to master the information. Tests are easy if you do the required coursework!
She's a really sweet professor. If you are taking her for calculus 2, don't expect that you will pass this class with minimal effort though. Lots of quizzes and homework. You have to put in a lot of work and time if you want to get a good grade in this class.
She's belittling and offensive. The information on her lectures wouldn't be so bad if she wasn't busy making you feel like an imbecile. Multiple times, when we asked her to explain a question, she would say that we should understand it already and we didn't have time to go back... But she can spend ten minutes telling a pointless story.
She made me fall in love with math again. Not my strongest subject but her lectures were designed to teach us the material in the most uncomplicated way possible. She is crystal clear in her lectures. Lots of homework, but if you do it, you will excel in the class. Easy tests. Got an A. Taking her again for calculus 2.
Almus is a really good teacher. She expects us to be quiet and will call you out for disrupting her lecture. She goes really fast but it's only because she has hella material to cover. She's clear and concise when it comes to the material.
Her lectures are clear and easy to follow. Attendance isn't mandatory, but there are poppers most days for 5% of your grade. Labs are also essential to go to because of classwork, homework, and lab quizzes. If you have trouble, they are also very helpful. Overall, great professor and easy class. She's very nice, just don't talk during class.
great professor
Dr. Almus is the best math professor I've ever had! She makes Calculus look simple. She does take a while sometimes to answer e-mails, but she is available a lot throughout the week in the Casa tutoring center to help out on homework assignments, etc. There are many quizzes and homework assignments, so don't overload yourself with classes!
Dr Almus is wonderful! I made an A in Calculus 1(took with her last semester) and I am taking Calculus 2 now. She explains the material very well, makes everything easy to understand. Replies to emails and helps a lot when you have questions. Reviews for tests are extremely helpful. Strongly recommend her to everyone; best math professor!
Dr Almus is a great professor
Great professor, funny, and very clear. She does work a little fast, but if you pay attention and are apt to math you'll do great. Took her for Cal 1 and Cal 2 made an A in both, with ease. The tests are very straightforward and nothing tricky. Go to class, do homework, do quizzes, practice tests and you'll be set for success.
BEST professor ever in UH, trust me. She give us free 5 points each test, you just need to do the practice test. Sometime she will give you bonus points on test. Your final test will replace for the lowest grade test that you have if your final is higher than that test.
She is awesome. Take her!!
I really like Dr. Almus' teaching skills! She's great, I know other people who took other professors and they were struggling because they didn't give as much examples as Dr. Almus. She really cares about you doing good and is super passionate about what she does. Going to miss having her as a professor since she didn't teach Cal 3.
Dr Almus seems like a nice person, but her teaching is not great at all. She goes very fast and her notes are nearly impossible to understand when she fills them out. Other professors make videos for there classes over all the notes and are better professors. Take one of them. George subbed for Almus twice and I regret not taking her.
She's an amazing teacher I took her for both cal 1 and 2. Her reviews are great and she goes on her pace and is not rushed or expects you to know anything besides precal of course unlike George. I highly recommend her, easy A. And if you have any questions she'll answer them for you.
Almus goes fast when solving problems but takes time to explain it. Her notes are super confusing to look back on and sometimes leave things undone. She is funny tho and cares for the students. She replies to email quick, & offers tutoring w/ her. Cal 2 is difficult probably best not to slack off in this class.
Her accent may be a bit hard to understand at first. Lectures and notes are posted online. Up to 5 extra credit points are given per exam, and 10 on the final. Your grade on the final may replace your lowest test grade. Overall, the class is A LOT of work, regardless of professor. You will make an A if you work for it.
Great professor, very professional and clear with her expectations as well as her explanations of the material. The grading criteria is clear cut and making an A is easy if you do the work. She does a great job of preparing you for exams. Made a 100 on last test and on Final. Extra credit at the end.
Dr. Almus is wonderful! She explains everything clearly and will take time to answer your questions. This class should have been an easy A for me, but I slacked off a little towards the end of the semester so I ended up with a B. That said, make sure you try your best on all the quizzes, homeworks, etc. Tests are easy if you know the material.
I had her for Cal 1 and it went exceptional, but when I took her for Cal 2 it became worse. She is a good teacher as long as you actually pay attention during her lectures, especially during Cal 2. It's an essential. And make sure that you do all of your homework for this class. Also, all practice tests are 5 bonus points for each of the tests.
Almus is amazing! Explains very well and answers questions clearly. She helped me during office hours and replied to my emails quickly. Prepared us very well for the exams. Homework was not too much and it helped in terms of learning. Posts notes online, overall she was great. Will take her again for Calculus 2.
prof Almus is great, very helpful and care about your grades. she is qualified. The tests are in casa and they are so easy. If you pay attention is the class and review the material right after it, you will not need to study more for it! very good prof, I will definitely take another course with her.
Almus is a great Calc. 2 professor. I did not have her for Calc. 1 but her lectures make the concepts easy to understand so make sure you are always there. Lots of poppers and hw but she will give extra credit for some of them! The final can replace your lowest test grade so make sure you study hard for it. If you start strong you should get an A.
Professor Almus cares for her students greatly, although she gives a fair amount of work and labs are mandatory, you do have to work for yourself. The class and grades mostly stands on CASA testing, and majority of the time she thinks they are a bit harsh, but no matter she teaches specifics and speaks to the students very well!
This class was challenging. I still expect an A in this course but it was thanks to Khan Academy. Professor Almus made it immediately clear that she would NOT answer questions over lecture. She also assigned the TA questions to work on in the problem sessions leaving him with no time to answer student questions. Must be a self learner to pass.
She does not give you even an inch of leeway... If you want to get an A, you have to earn every tenth of it. She lectures EXTREMELY fast, and does not really explain material well, be prepared to learn on your own because the lectures are a waste of time. I do not normally leave reviews, but she was horrible...
Easy quizzes almost every lecture. Lectures include step-by-step problem solving, written on a document, later uploaded on her page, helps for quizzes and tests. If you are learning the material, the HW/quizzes are easy. Online quizzes allow 15 attempts. Tests can be tricky and are MC/FR. MC - similar to online quizzes; FR - show your work
I took calc1 with Almus in the summer and now taking calc2. I love her lectures; makes topics interesting. solves many examples in class. Homework and quizzes every week like in all calculus classes. extra credits on tests; hard to not get a good grade if you study reviews. Posts videos of lectures and that really helps. Highly recommended.
She is a very good teacher that is able to make the topic that is being covered in class simple to understand. Beware of talking in class because she will find and she will call you out.
Great math professor
She is very systematic in her class. Every week, you should expect: -A graded homework to be turned in every Mondays -A multiple attempts (MCQ) quiz or two -A test every Friday She posts all her lecture notes and videos online. Her explanation is easily understandable, since she revises on algebra, precalc and even trig, when needed!
The best math professor I've had at UH hands down. GOAT show up for poppers study/look at her notes that she uploads after class and keep up with online quizzes and weekly homework and try to take in person lab bc the TAs help a good amount. In class she really tries to make sure you understand the material and she isn't boring but the subject is.
GOAT GOAT GOAT GOAT GOAT GOAT GOAT GOAT GOAT GOAT TAKE HER
Almus is an amazing professor. She clearly explains the topic in class and post notes online. If you just come to class and pay attention, you most likely won't have to study much for the test. There were a lot of homeworks but they're very good practice for tests. Should be an easy A if you put in some efforts.
Good professor. Expect 2 online quizzes, a multiple choice assignment, and homework assignment every week. In-lab quizzes every Friday & poppers in every lecture. Practice tests are exactly like the test, so do those (5 points extra credit on test for getting 100's on these!)
It's a fairly easy class with the right amount of effort. There were a lot of online quizzes but you get 20 attempts so you can get full marks on that. Weekly homework, as well as in-class quizzes. Attendance was part of the grade. Her lectures are great, she makes everything clear and even does reviews before the tests/exams. Just don't be lazy!
Lectures are mostly example questions, pay attention and you should be able to understand pretty quickly. If you slack off she still posts her lectures online, however attendance is mandatory. Poppers everyday, HW, in class quizzes, 2 online quizzes every week. She adds 5% of your practice test grade to your actual test. Should make at least a B
EVEN IF YOU HATE MATH, Dr. Almus is a very good professor to take for Calculus. She is interesting and also respects her students very much. There are a lot of online quizzes and homework but it's really only to help you with understanding the curriculum and class. Attend class, pay attention, and do the homework and you're good to go.
Almus is a sweetheart and very understanding. In the beginning of the semester she claimed that an A is completely obtainable in her class and its true. The labs are extremely helpful. Class consists of poppers, weekly hw and quizzes and four tests. Tests are fairly easy as she reviews thoroughly and gives plenty of extra credit.
Dr. Almus by far has been the best professor I've taken at UH. She made Calculus 2 a walk in the park. Plenty of extra credit opportunities and study material. She recorded the classes this semester which was helpful. All the exams were pretty easy, except for the final, but if you can get 90's or 100's on reg exams, you can pass with a high grade.
Dr. Almus is one of the best Math instructors I've ever had since elementary. Her lectures are gold, she explains everything very good, does examples and offers enough practice. Make sure you attend all her lectures, if you do, you pay attention in class, and keep up with the online quizzes she assigns, you have at the very least a B+ guaranteed!!
Almus is an amazing lecturer and a very nice lady who cares about her students. She clearly explains the materials as well as go over practices and examples in her notes and post them online. Extra credits are also offered in the form of practice exams. If you just pay attention and do all your hw, you should end up with at least a B.
Great class!!! Lots of homework and review material to prepare for the tests. She practically went over the tests either in class the week of test or the test was like her review sheet. Would take again.
Great professor, runs through basics rather quickly, but explains overall concept very well. Expect homework, quizzes, lab quizzes and EMCFs every week. Review sheets are provided before every exam, they're lengthy but cover the majority of what's to come in the actual exams. Lectures are posted online, but poppers are to be submitted in class.
What an absolute delight! Her notes are excellent; she writes out everything she does clearly, uses Geogebra to show concepts visually, and she explains topics and exceptions well. Not only that, but she's quite funny and a joy to see every week.
I had the amazing Bekki George for Calculus I, but she didn't teach Calculus II this semester. So I chose Ms. Almus to go with based on her reviews. What a disappointment... The lectures were boring with easy examples, and full of popper questions. I will never take her again.
Dr. Almus is awesome! She knows her stuff and presents difficult material in an easy to understand way. The course covers a lot of material and there is a lot of work required but she is available outside of class and posts recordings of lectures. Getting an 'A' in this class is purely a function of effort.
She is an excellent teacher who truly cares about her students. She gives many opportunities for bonus points and extra credit. There is a lot of homework, but about half of it is completion. The final replaces the lowest test grade. You get 20 attempts on online quizzes and completed notes are always provided online the day after a given lecture.
IF YOU CAN TAKE A CLASS WITH HER, TAKE IT! She is engaging and presents material in an understanding manner (her passion shows during her lecture). Dr. Almus is willing to help during her office hours and is very approachable. The class is time consuming , but don't let that scare you: each assignment you do really helps you master the material.
Provides lots of visual examples to help explain concepts, and her lectures are very engaging. If time and money were no issue, I would take ANY CLASS she teaches. If you have an opportunity to take one of her classes, you're in for a treat. Dr. Almus loves math (esp. calculus), and for at least three hours a week, she'll make you love it, too.
Excellent professor.
If I could give Professor Almus a 100 out of 10 I would. This is hands down the greatest professor I have ever had in any subject. She is extremely thorough in her explanations and is extremely helpful in office hours. She is hilarious and gives little jokes throughout lecture. I love her and wish she could teach all my classes 3
It is sometimes very hard to understand what she is saying; other than that, she is ok.
Lots of math jokes through lectures. The class has a lab and lots of homework, but both of those combined should prepare you for the tests really well. I'm taking her for Calculus 2 as well
Taking her for Cal 1 and Cal 2 was the best decision. She cares about her students and wants them to succeed. Her lectures are always engaging and if you miss one or need to review the material again, you can always go back to her recorded lectures. I definitely recommend her.
Definetly recommend taking Professor Almus. 10/10
Almus is probably the best prof I have taken at UH, along with Bean for Organic Chemistry. She is an excellent professor and explains concepts very well. Her notes are also clear and neat. GO TO CLASS. Some people may be able to learn by just reading notes, but that's unnecessary when you already have a great professor that can teach you.
She is the best professor I've ever taken! Her lectures are very easy to follow and it's best to print out your notes before hand. Her goal is for you to do well in her class
Dr. Almus is an excellent professor. Attendance counts towards final grade. Works lots of examples during class. Records her lectures and is available outside of class. Exams are not too bad since she gives a great review before each exam.
Professor Almus is a phenomenal instructor who understands how to teach creatively and in an interesting manner. She does several examples and her lecture notes are very organized. As long as you're respectful, she will care deeply about you & your success. She gives out reviews and practices tests similar to the actual exams. Just do all the work!
Really interesting class, had a lot of fun doing it and it was really easy.
Almus is so caring and sweet. She makes CALC easy even for a toddler. TAKE HER
Learned a lot. Wish I had her for all my math classes. Very solid and extremely knowledgeable and articulate.
Clearly defines expectations of coursework and material in a simple to understand manner. Great communicator (responded to e-mails within the hour). Highly professional, and eager to teach. 5 out of 5!
This professor is a real gem. If you can't learn from professor Almus, then no one can't teach you. She makes math fun and simple. I took her for Calculus 2, and she made it seem like simple arithmetic. Do yourself a favor and take her, take her! Best decision I made this semester. She understands the way students think. Best math lecture ever!
Seriously THE best calculus Professor ever. As long as you attend class, or at the very least keep up with her videos, you'll be guaranteed a great grade. She's very sweet and funny. Keeps lectures interesting (thank goodness!), and makes things easier to remember, and shows plenty of shortcuts when available. You won't regret it if you pick her!
Mandatory attendance, a lot of homework, easy exam. Easy B. But you need to work a little for A
I had Prof Almus for Cal 2. She explains the material well and does enough examples for you to understand it. The amount of online quizzes, emcfs, and homework is a little much, but doable. And her tests are really easy; very much like the practice tests
Dr. Almus is a great professor. Her voice is kind of annoying but she makes everything clear during lectures. I would say there are a lot of deadlines for homework, quizzes, etc. but they are very helpful when going to take an exam. Exams are alike to her class reviews NOT the practice exams. Would recommend.
Calculus 2 is not an easy subject by any means. Prof. Almus made it as easy as possible with up to 10pts Extra credit each test and up too 10 on the final. She presented the information very well and was availbe if needed. Would take again.
Dr. Almus is a very good lecturer, and makes the material accessible and easy to understand. I felt like she could've been more thorough with with derivations and such, and I'm not sure I learned a whole lot about how the concepts connect. Homework is frequent but manageable: two quizzes per week, an emcf once every week or so, and practice tests.
I never felt that confident in Cal 1 than I did in Cal 2. She is an amazing professor. There were lots of homeworks but they actually helped in preparation for the exam. Lab quiz every friday, homework due every week but you should expect this much in Cal 2. Video notes also helped alot. Work hard and get success!! Overall she was easy.
Excellent professor and a very sweet lady. If you are taking Calculus 1 or 2 at UH, you should definitely choose Dr. Almus.
Professor Almus and such a kind individual and she really cares about her students learning the material. The class is very homework heavy, be prepared to spend a lot of time on it but personally it was an easy A for me!
Almus is an amazing lecturer, she literally makes Calculus 2 seem so so easy. She's a very sweet professor and is willing to help her students learn. Lots of homework but it is never dreading to do.
Terrible professor contrary to what most people say. Her voice is extremely annoying and you learn nothing in class. Yet, you have to show up for poppers (attendance). Take this class if you like self-teaching!!!
Dr. Almus is a good professor, but I find her lectures very boring; she tries her best to help us through the material. There are a lot of assignments to keep up with. Her test reviews are very good though.
I did not like Prof. Almus. She gets in details of unnecessary problems too much, and then rushes through the rest of them or leave them as an exercise.
Simply the best professor for calculus at UH!!! You'll never regret taking her cause she explains so well. The HW is generally heavy for calculus so be prepared. She is so caring and sweet.
I personally did not like this professor. She kind of rushed through lectures at times expecting students to know how to do "simple steps". She was also a stickler for no talking. If someone talked all the way in the back row of lecture she would stop lecture and call them out continously. Overall, she is an OK teacher.
she's an ok professor. She always tells everyone to be quiet during lecture which gets annoying. Class is HW heavy but overall not bad.
Dr. Almus is an average professor. She looks like she does care for you. There are so many homeworks to complete besides the online quizzes. I wish she could be more considerate and give less homework. She explains well, but I would not take her again.
She is the professor to take for math. she fully explains any topic and constantly ask if we need any more examples. she can he strict and lenient at the same time. she is always willing to help out.
great professor, 10/10 lecuture
This professor over complicates the information and problems that you are learning. I learned most of this class from teaching myself and being blessed with a good TA (sidenote almus has some pretty good TAs). She is also very petty and will single out people if you talk. Reviews are ok. Too much work given at times
I took her online and she made pre-cal easy. If you do work outside of class and take the time to study the material, the class is simple. She's very thorough and makes sure everyone watching the lecture is caught up.
She is a good professor and willing to help outside of her office hours. She makes her class funny and enjoyable.
Easiest class ever.
Good professor, average class. Post completed notes and videos on her site, so it is easy to catch up. Lectures are average while the quizzes/HW are difficult. 20 attempts on quizzes. Alot of work, at most in 1 week: 3 quizzes, 1 HW due in class, 1 Electronic HW. As long as you do the work is given, the class is easy.
I took her online class and had a 100 average in the class. You can take a practice exam (20 times) and 10% of the grade will be added to the test, so I had 10 extra points on all the tests. The workload is very normal, as long as you do it when she says and not last minute you won't have any issues. The test reviews are exactly like the tests.
Love her! She really cares a lot about her very large class. She offers a lot of extra help. If you get the opportunity, take her!
Professor Almus is an amazing teacher, especially for online. This course required so much time and effort since it was online. But it was a great way to learn time management with all the homeworks, poppers, & quizzed that are due every week. She will help you on live meetings every week, which I find very caring for her to even do so! Easy A+!
Dr. Almus is great at what she teaches. She offers test reviews (with keys and sometimes worked out probs), accessible notes online, and extra credit. This class isn't too difficult if you complete all of the work assigned to you. The work-load is pretty hefty, but it's helpful. Overall, the class is moderately easy.
Best calc 2 Professor at UH
She's a really great professor, and a caring person in general. The material is difficult but she makes it bearable. Lots of quizzes and homework so don't get comfortable. Calculus 2 Thor 2 Sadness.
I took Almus for Calc 1 and 2 in my freshman year. By far the BEST math professor ever. Her lecture were easy to understand and HW was very easy. Her tests were also very easy. Got A's in both classes but I'm good at math so that might've contributed. Take her even if you're not good at math and you won't be disappointed.
I loved her! I just took her for Pre-Cal online. I really wish she had an online summer class for calculus because I would take her again! Her lectures are clear and she is always willing to answer questions in her live lectures and to be honest the grading is straight forward. You will not regret on taking her.
Easy class... just a lot of hw
Literally the most annoying professor I've had so far. She constantly felt the need to stop lecture to call out people for talking/"disturbing" the class when no one would even know they were talking. Tries so hard to be cool and relatable instead of teaching. Doesn't respond to emails. Barely does any examples in class, just "exercises" for home
Dr. Almus is annoying, the hwk for Calc II is rough in general but she didn't make things any easier. Wish I took someone else.
I overall HATE the CASA system. It is VERY bootleg compared to Lone Star's MyMathLab if anyone is familiar with that. The professor herself was not bad, she answered every question I had quickly since I took the class online. DO THE POPPERS and all. She did what she could with the system she was given. UH needs to do better with that janky system!
Very clear on what was needed to be learned, would take again
I would have never imagined that I would do so well in an online math course. I did better in the online course than I have in in-person math classes. She's really good at explaining the topics and gives extra credit opportunity through practice tests. This extra credit improved my grade substantially. Best math prof I've ever taken.
10/10 recommend! I didn't ever think iI would receive an A for a math class... super easy and you can get a bunch of extra credit on exams! took her for the long summer session, but I learned a lot online!
She makes it clear what is going to be on the exam! Making it super easy to pass the exams. There practice exams that helps in improving math skills, have an idea what the test is going to be like & extra credit!!!! Lecture videos are easy to understand, but if not you can always rewind! There was a lot of quizzes but it was worth it. 10/10, easy A
Almus is great; I loved her lectures and enthusiasm. Her reviews were very helpful. She always replied to my emails quickly and answered my questions. Overall, I am glad I took calculus 2 with her.
Dr. Almus is one of the best professors I've ever had. She is very caring and makes class very fun. She moves very fast, but she does so in detail. Her class is structured very efficiently, her lecture and notes are recorded and posted on casa. This class however has a lot of quizzes and homework, so be ready to work hard the entire semester.
All my friends recommended Almus and they were right; she is the best! Explains clearly and cares for her students. Best math prof I've had.
The class itself is really work heavy, quiz every Friday, online quizzes and EMCFs due weekly, written HW usually due every Wednesday, but it is manageable. Dr. Almus records her lectures and explains everything very clearly so this class should be an easy A if you stay on top of the class. Gives extra credit on exams if you do the practice tests.
I took Professor Almus for Fall 2019, I really recommend her, everyone told me calculus 2 was a hard class, however with her everything was very easy, she says what is coming in the tests, records her lectures, tons of material to prepare, if you don't skip class, do everything she says and put the effort, this will be you easiest class.
4 tests, final (raw score replaces lowest test), online quizzes (lowest 2 drop), written and online hw (lowest drop), lab quizzes (lowest drop), poppers (lowest 2?? drop). she was sweet, decent lecturer but she posts her notes as well as the vid to her in class lecture. lots of work as stated up there but if you keep on top, you'll be fine
I had her for Cal 2 and to be honest, the class was a breeze with her. She's real specific of everything you need to know in her lectures and she explains the examples pretty well. Assignments tend to get heavy during test week though, but if you do the assignments, you'll ace the tests.
She is a caring teacher. She doesn't only give you the formulas, she also explains the topic and make you understand the reasons and proofs. Also, if you miss a class you only miss a popper grade which is nothing, to catch up the class you can watch the lec vids. I loved her so much! It was the only class I was willing to go to, that semester.
Dr. Almus is amazing. She loves what she does. 4 exams and theres always a 5 point extra credit available. There is a lot of quizzes online but I think thats all of the math department at UH. Shes very clear with her notes and has them online so you can print out. 10/10
Alums is such a sweet Professor. If you plan on taking any math course I highly suggest choosing Almus if given the option. She teaches everything thoroughly, she never snaps at students, she doesnt go too fast, and shes willing to help with whatever.
Amazing professor. Due to the nature of the course the works goes by pretty fast, so keeping up with the homework is important. Some of the homework can take hours. The quizzes are basically like the homework. The class is a fun and engaging course, but make sure you don't slack or you will not make an A.
On a normal week, expect 3-4 online quizzes, 1 lab quiz, 1 written homework, and an online homework.
She was very disrespectful when I asked her questions regarding my grade. Doesn't cater to student who aren't the best at math. Worst professor ever, if you have to take her don't do it online.
Handled the COVID situation badly, our work load was more than at school, and honestly kinda rude. Notes are good but rarely found myself learning during her lecture. Even during new topics she does not finish examples which does not make sense what she would not finish ex from a BRAND NEW TOPIC. She did this almost every lecture pretty annoying
Almus is an okay professor. She teaches well, however there are some big problems with her. First off she is way too cocky about her teaching awards she has received. Second off almost every chapter she would teach something that was incorrect and would blame students for it. Lastly the last chapter in the class was very poorly taught.
I took Almus' class during the winter mini session, it was a semester of work in a month, so you have to stay on top of your stuff. She was good at communicating to us and her lecture videos were very clear. If you watch the videos, do notes with it, and study the quizzes, I guarantee you'll pass. Easy A and I suck at math.
took this class online, not bad lectures were about 45 min each sometimes an hour. Exams were just like the review. Im really bad at math but I did enjoy this class because she doesn't cram you with a lot of work. 4 exams and a final (you can opt out but you can replace that grade with your lowest grade.)
Pre-COVID: Lots of poppers for attendance, HW. She's a great prof. Don't talk in class. Demands respect, not annoyingly doe. 4 Exams, 1 is dropped. Lots of CASA and lab quizzes. Cal 1 is imp. After: She posted lecture videos, poppers from that. Quizzes were the same. Had to stop lab quizzes. She had electronic HWs. Math dep didn't make it easier.
She's alright professor. I mainly chose her because George only taught online. She is not afraid of calling you out in class if you are being disruptive or talking loudly. This class is very heavy on homework. If you are strong in math then you should be fine. However, if you are weak in math like me, then the class is going to be difficult.
She explains the course material very well and the labs are also helpful. She also records lectures for students to access after class. The professor is very understanding of the students too.
Professor is pretty clear, but the course content is hard to learn. Class is same CASA procedure of having multiple online quizzes and extra credit practice tests. She keeps getting teaching rewards, so she's good I guess.
Labs helped the most. TAs go over homework, which there is a LOT of, but they help you learn the material. I managed with an A by learning on my own/in lab and falling asleep in lecture.
I came in from HCC and retained nothing from the Pre-cal course I took there. Bur Dr. Almus is AMAZING. She always states her office hours and her videos are a little ling but they are so detailed and break down the subject very well. You can just tell by the way she talks that she does care if the students learn from her class.
Professor is kind and overall the class is relatively easy. Make sure to watch her lectures or you won't do well in the class. Each lecture is about 30min-1hr long but she's very informative. Tests are pretty easy and her reviews help you prepare for it. Lots of homework but they're easy and great practice. Quizzes can be retaken numerous times.
If you can take Prof Almus for calculus, do it! She adapted very well to teaching online and is very caring. She makes calculus easy and explains it VERY well. She's an amazing professor and also very funny and interacts with students during the call. but BEWARE OF POPPERS AND HOMEWORKS AND QUIZZES. THEY ARE FREQUENT!! DO NOT SKIP THEM I PROMISE!!!
Hear me out on why you need to choose her. There's an archive of videos to watch as prereq. Some are recorded by her, some by other professors. I was so confused when i watched other professors' videos but then i watched her practice video on the same topic and she would use methods that make way more sense and she explains her steps well.
Stop reading this review right now and enroll in her class before it's too late! You won't be disappointed.
Dr. Almus' lectures are about an hour long but are really helpful and informative. She goes over examples and has poppers to make sure you're grasping the concept. Quizzes have 20 attempts until you make a 100, test reviews that reflect what will be on the test, and 1-2 weekly hw. There are weekly (optional) live meetings if you ever need help.
Dr. Almus is a great professor and makes the hardest looking problems look like 2nd grade math questions. The class is set up in a great way, since you could learn from prewritten notes from the professor or watch a prerecorded lecture. Practice tests reflects what is on the exams, 20 attempts on quizzes, and up to 5 extra points on all exams.
Almus is amazing! I am so glad I took calc2 with her. Lectures were clear and she makes it fun- I enjoyed math after taking her class even though math is not my strongest subject. She cares a lot about her students and wanted us to succeed. There is a lot of work but I guess thats the same for all calculus classes. Highly recommend.
She is such a nice professor and she makes pre-cal easy.
Her course was straightforward and easy. Just follow along the videos and if you have any questions just attend her weekly live meeting. Other than that you should be good to go when doing the hw, quizzes and test. Also take the practice test it is very beneficial!
i LOVED her class!! her teaching was so clear and the exams weren't too difficult. if you watch all of her lectures you'll get an A
Dr. Almus is one of my favorite professors at UH. She is extremely caring and has pushed back deadlines multiple times to make it easier for us. Cal 2 is pretty hard but she teaches it very well. 5% of the practice tests are used as extra credit on the exams and the final replaces your lowest test grade. Definitely take her class.
Dr. Almus teaches very well. Be ready for a lot of work though. You are responsible for one to two weekly homeworks and 2 quizzes. She gives a lot of feedback about difficult problems in her lecture notes. Her test reviews are very helpful with a lot of mock examples from old tests which guide you what to expect in the exam. Overall a great teacher
Her lectures were always so fun! She made calculus easy and fun. The tests were challenging, but if you watch lectures and practice the material you will do great. 2-3 quizzes per week and written hw's due once in a while. I know others struggled to do well, but I did pretty well because I actually understood her teaching.
Great teacher! Gives extra credit for the practice exams which helps boost grades. Class is exam heavy, 3 exams worth 18% and a final worth 21%. Class is easy if you pay attention. Would take her again.
As long as you put in enough work for this class, then you will get an A. She gives you plenty of resources to use for practice, and her lecture notes are great. The majority of your grade will come from tests, but she also gives extra credit opportunities to boost your scores. Overall, great professor, and sets you up for success from the start.
Dr. Almus might be the best math professor at UH. I made an RMP account solely to boast about my experience in her class. Her lectures are incredibly helpful and her teaching style itself is is extremely effective. The class goes by VERY fast in curriculum, and theres two quizzes a week and a homework every week so I regret not going to labs
Great teacher! Sets up expectations and great lectures Gave extra credit Not a bad choice for Calculus 2.
Professor Almus is the best Calculus 2 professor out there. I would highly recommend her, because she explains everything in a clear and logical manner, and is always willing to answer any questions you may have.
Be prepared to learn and do a lot of hw. calc 2 isn't easy but the prof gives amazing lectures which will help you understand the subject with much more effeciency.
She is not able to explain things clearly. Tests are nothing like reviews. Does not respond to email. Avoid.
Dr. Almus is my favorite UH math professor so far. She is a positive person who wants students to learn without having too much homework. I recommend her and am likely to take her again if I need more math classes.
She is good, gives weekly homework along with two online quizzes per week, and her test reviews are like the test itself. I would like to have seen some more challenging problems solved in class.
Her test reviews were like the exact same as the tests. It was almost insulting tbh. I guess she was ok but I was bored and thought she did not say things well. Most others were very lost and she no help
I can't say enough about Dr. Almus teaching skills. She loves what she is doing and she cares about your success. Calculus II weekly load of assignments is heavy, but she reminds you constantly to work ahead of time. She gives good feedback on each assignment and prepares you well for the exams. Definitely will take her again.
Awful class. It is all busy work and the teacher does not care about student success she only wants to make you think she does. lectures are ok but lots of things are rushed and not explained good. This is a very disappointing teacher. I used to like math and now I hate how boring it is. This class and this teacher did this to me.
I am failing this class and it is all her fault.
She explains concepts very well. Wants students to succeed in class. Lots of online quizzes and homework. Practice tests get you additional points on tests.
I started college late and because of this professor i have to change majors now because she is the best uh can muster to teach cal2 and she is not very good at it either. Thanks for holding my future hostage and pulling the trigger, uh math department. Hope that paycheck was worth ruining many lives.
Every other student I talk to agrees with me that this professor is very bad at teaching and bad at helping her students. It is very weird that there are so many other positive reviews. I wish my classmates would speak out more about how terrible the course is and how below average the teacher is.
Prof almus is an amazing teacher and anyone that says the opposite is a bad student. Her notes can be a bit long though and her lectures are pretty fast-paced. Her in-class reviews are pretty good for studying for exams. The class is a bit tough at first, but if u stick through it to the end it gets much, much easier.
never responds to emails, rushes through lectures and doesn't explain things clearly and expects us to solve problems in under a minute or else "we're not ready for the exam". the TA and youtube videos were a much better help at understanding calculus than her.
Professor Almus is a great lecturer and clearly has a complete understanding of the material she teaches. I do believe she can sometimes go a little fast when trying to copy down notes, but there are videos available for each lecture if needed. Overall, great professor.
Ratings do not live up to expectations. It's as if she purposely wants to make it difficult for you to pass. Everything is online however, tests are in person. Lots of lectures, LOTS of quizzes. Bad job at explaining- she skips over specific parts. CASA crashed the weekend prior to exam 2. We had 6 quizzez due that week. She would not accommodate
Horrible horrible horrible avoid!!! majority of the class is failing
Surprised at how high she's rated. Took cal 2 w/her in spring. Poor teaching skills in a class that needs patience. Had a very condescending attitude when questions were brought up to her and expects students to know it all. She even sent out the most fake email ever telling people not to drop her class yet offers no support. Chronic email ignorer
Goes too fast in lecture and notes can be confusing at times .
I was failing this class. Managed to make a 104 on the last test (surprisingly) & OPT'd out of the final. Lots of work. Material isn't easy & her lectures can be confusing. You will have to teach yourself. The only reason I passed was because I REALLY had to pull it together. She's not a bad professor, but would not recommend taking her online clas
This class is easy if you come to the lectures. She doesn't post lectures online but she posts completed notes. She teaches in a way where things are easy to understand. She sometimes may move too fast but you can ask her questions anytime. She is very nice and understanding and tries to give no "busy" work. Also go to the lab it helps a lot.
the tests aren't exactly hard due to the test reviews being almost a copy of the test; teaches pretty fast and sometimes its hard to understand if you space out; best bet is to teach yourself; try to complete the assignments as early as possible because it is very easy to accidentally miss out on a few; posts notes which help out a ton
She is the best. She explains very well, she is understanding of her students, she cares about your success. What do you need more? Take her.
She ruined my GPA. Every day driving to her class I would hope I would crash in order to avoid her class. Her in-class reviews differ significantly from the tests given. They typically do not include problems on the actual exam not to mention she goes through topics very quickly leaving you no time to catch up if you fall behind.
Almus is a good professor, but she tends to go very fast through the material. If math is hard for you, definitely expect to go to tutoring to have someone else explain it to you. She can sometimes be passive aggressive during class and gets onto students for being on their phone. However, if you put in effort you can easily get an A.
I took this class because it was presequite and I need took it, she is nice and very good instructor. However, I took mini-semester it was hard for me to keep up with the class there were a lot of homework and study.
Prior to taking this professor, I believed math was not for me, I finished the semester with an A. Professor Almus is very nice, & makes the subject easy to understand. Lots of online homework & quizzes with multiple attempts. In class attendance quizzes. Professor shares her notes after lecture & test review sessions. Taking her again for Cal 1.
Almus was great. I got an A in calculus 1 because of her.She posts completed notes, reviews are very helpful for the exams. Approachable person; helped me a lot when I had questions. She always gives motivation to class about not giving up and aiming high. I wish I could take calculus 2 with her. Would certainly recommend.
Dr. Almus is amazing! Loved her teaching style- she made calculus fun. I never taught I would love a math course. You have to study for an A but it was not hard.
I got an A last semester thanks to Almus. She teaches well and cares about her students. Quiz and homework load is heavy but not hard. Go to class, do the homework, and pay attention to her reviews. Would highly recommend her.
Professor Almus is the best math teacher I have ever had. I enjoyed the class, learned a lot and got an A. I wish I could take all my math classes with her. She truly is an amazing professor.
Let me start by saying I nearly failed high school precalc. This math- not my forte. But this professor? Wonderful. I took a month-long crash course with her, preparing to lose my mind, and she just? Gives amazing lectures. Explains things really thoroughly. We had almost daily quizzes because it was session 6, but she was great. So many resources.
Dr. Almus is absolutely amazing. I already loved math before taking her but her class was just so much fun, she makes math so enjoyable. She's very good at teaching her subject and is very clear when explaining problems and how to solve them. Don't be scared to ask questions as she is always happy to answer them and is always helpful!
Dr. Almus is the best! I just took my final and I am confident I will get an A. She teaches very well; attend lectures. Tests were quite easy. Quiz and homework load was a bit heavy at first but I got used to it. She never assigns busy work. I highly recommend her - even if math is not your favorite subject, you can get an A.
Definitely one of the best professors I've had so far during my college experience. She genuinely cares for her students and puts in effort to make sure her students don't fail (i.e. extra credit opportunities, drops quizzes, gives free popper attendance questions, etc). She will explain a concept thoroughly if a student is confused. Def take her!
Great professor. She cares for all students and wants you to do well. She explains in a good way and will answer any questions. Extra credit and will drop low grades if you do well. I had her for pre cal and cal 1 and would take her again if I could
Dr. Almus was very helpful whenever I reached out to her. She was always professional and communicated swiftly with students. I recommend taking her in person or online during a regular semester. I don't recommend taking her precalculus class during the mini-mester unless you are REALLY good at math.
After high school I had lost all hope with math and thought I would just forever suck at it. I took pre-cal in high school and borderline passed. Dr. Almus is caring & her method of teaching is so well thought out and her notes are amazing. I am so happy I took her--not even halfway thru sem and I just had to say this about her. Does her job right.
I did not have the best pre-cal background, which really only made trig functions difficult in this class. Just make sure you know the basics like trig because you are expected to know it before the course starts. If not, there are videos available to you that Dr. Almus will guide you to!
Almus is my favorite professor I've ever had! Her lectures are incredible and they help students understand the material. There are online quizzes, however, you have more than enough attempts to get a good grade on them. Extra credit practice tests also help out a lot! Tests are through CASA, however, if you attend lectures, you will do amazing!
Fantastic professor! I took AP Calc AB in hs and almost failed, but now I have a high A in it and I have to thank Dr. Almus for it. Her lectures and notes are clear and easy to follow. Lecture notes and written homeworks match the exams. Online homeworks doesn't really but are good practice for remembering formulas and whatnot.
I struggled with math in high school, but was able to excel in calculus thanks to Dr. Almus. Lots of mandatory quizzes, but multiple attempts are allowed. 1 homework packet and 1 lab quiz per week. 3 exams and a final. Dr. Almus is very kind and understanding of student's lives. Attend lectures and labs and you will be very successful!
This professor is GREAT. Seriously. If you want to take Calc 1, take it with her. You can tell she loves the subject. She teaches it well, and all her shortcuts make Calc light work. Her lab quizzes are frequent, but they keep the material fresh in your head. Work honestly on HW and quizzes and you'll pass EASY. She's also super nice btw.
Amazing professor I've taken so far. She is always caring about students and so does her TA. There are roughly 2 or 3 online quizzes and 1 lab quiz every week. She gives 10 attempts for every online quiz and will drop some lowest at the end of the semester.
The best professor I have had at UH. She truly cares about her students and will provide multiple chances for extra credit. The only way you do not get an A in this class is if you truly just blow it off. Give a real effort and you will get an A.
Dr. Almus is a fantastic teacher! She is great at explaining every calculus topic and explaining her process as she solves the problem. She uploads her notes after class so you don't have to worry about copying everything down. She also dropped a surprising number of quizzes and other assignments to help you get a good grade!
Hands down one of the best professors I have ever had. She made calculus so much more fun and was very respected by the other students in the classroom. I would take her again a million times over if I had to, the best professor I have had at UH.
I took this class online and escaped with a B. I took it online during the summer so it went pretty quickly, but she explained everything with online live lectures that are mandatory. During the lectures she was a tad disrespectful to her students when we did not understand or recall something she considered simple by egging us on. That bugged me.
Dr. Almus is my favorite professor. I have taken her for Precalculus, Calculus I and now Calculus II. She is very organized and her lectures are easy to follow. I wish she could teach Calculus III next fall.
I never thought I would ever write one of these but I ADORE Professor Almus. She is one of the kindest instructors I've ever had and explains concepts extremely well. She always goes above and beyond to prepare us for exams and I've never scored below a 96. However, attend all the lectures because otherwise you'll fall behind.
Dr. Almus was great. Every lecture was done well enough that I didn't feel I needed to dig much deeper in order to understand it. I did have to practice a lot (like she tells you to do) but I didn't find myself lost on the material. Fantastic lecturer and truly loves teaching math and helping students. Hope I have her again.
I took this course as a session 6 (5 week mini) online. Dr. Almus is a great lecturer and her videos are very clear and concise. This mini is graded on quizzes, poppers, and 4 exams. You don't have to do the busy work of HW. Dr. Almus prepares you well for the exams and I personally recommend this mini with her rather than a regular precalc session
Her lectures and notes are very helpful, just pay attention in class, put in the work, and you will get a good grade.
I started off doing really well in this class, but later fell off which is ultimately my fault. However, this professor is very caring and a great lecturer. Despite my grade, I would take her again. There's a lot of extra credit opportunities, she created in depth reviews and worksheets for each chapter/section. TAKE HER IF YOU CAN!
Some people thought she wasn't a good teacher, but I felt she explained things well. The only topic I actually struggled with was Riemann sums because she did not cover it much. But everything else she covered excellently. The online quizzes were harder than what we learned in class, but it made the tests a lot easier.
Almus is a GREAT prof, she teaches well in and outside of lecture. Very understanding if problems arise, and will always give you tools to do well. But it's still an pre-calc course so it is on the harder side, find a good study group and you will do great!
I am a terrible math student through and through. Prof Almus is the literal ONLY math instructor I have ever taken (K-12 included) that has made math make sense. She is incredible at overexplaining a concept so that even the most hopeless (me) can understand, enjoy & PASS an upper level math course. I cannot recommend her enough.
GOAT. makes calculus very easy and test are pretty much like the practice exams. TAKE HER dont take any other prof if shes available
The professor is really helpful and explains concepts well. The online quizzes are tough but great practice for the exams. I'd recommend using unstuckstudy ai alongside the lectures - it was a lifesaver for me! Attend all classes and you'll do great.
Absolutely wonderful professor. Took her for Cal I and Cal II. As long as you attend lectures, take notes, and do the homework, you will pass this class just fine. She was so good at teaching that I wish I could've taken her for Cal III too. Genuinely one of the best professors I've ever had. I highly recommend her course to anyone taking calculus.
I took precalculus with her, and she explained topics in a way that made it very easy to understand. She does give a lot of quizzes every week, which can be time-consuming, but they are very helpful for Exams. Professor Almus really cares about her students and as long as you put in the time and effort you will pass her classes no doubt!
I would take Professor Almus for all of my math courses if I could. She genuinely cares about her students, and as long as you understand the assignments then you will excell in this class. I personally think the tests are much easier than the homework and quizzes, so dont stress if you feel like they are hard. Do the review and practice exams!
I absolutely love Almus, I cannot say enough good things about her. I struggled so hard in calc in HS but she made it so easy. She explains things very well and offers ALOT of extra credit. I am so grateful for profs like these. She truly loves what she does and you can tell. I plan to take her for Calc 2 and 3, i
Dr. Almus is an amazing professor! She takes the time to develop materials that are helpful & relevant to exams. I found this class easier than my class in high school due to Dr. Almus. There's a lot of homework and quizzes for this class (36 quizzes and homeworks for every unit. The tests are easier than the quizzes and similar to the reviews.
I'm not sure how she does with her other classes but with my experience in a mini semester with her I did not like it at all. Very hard to work with. Can be hard to understand sometimes aswell.
Almus is one of the rare professors that manage to make a difficult subject extremely easy to comprehend and do work on. Actual exams are much easier than the practices, and she's more than happy to overexplain or re-explain concepts until everyone is comfortable. Lots of homework (36 QZs, 9 HWs). All-in-all, exceptional and enjoyable professor.
She does not teach the lessons well, and it is hard to understand them. I've never had any issues in a math class before until I took her class. Don't take her class if you don't want your GPA to drop. I've taken many math classes before and they were all easy to comprehend when watching the lecture videos, except this one.
Dr. Almus is a great professor; she loves what she teaches, and you can tell by the energy she brings to her class. She posts the notes that she completes during the lecture but does not post the lecture itself, and sometimes her notes can be a little hard to follow. She does do poppers for attendance, but overall she is a kind professor.
Her lectures are easy to understand and for me, made starting calculus a cakewalk. Attend her lectures and participate since she really does pour her heart and soul into teaching students understand calc! Take her class!!!
There is a lot of work you need to put in, from 22 quizzes, 14 homework assignments (around average 18 questions) and around 24 lecture videos. The quizzes were really the thing that made me learn the material the best (I recommend doing them before the homework). Her lectures are fine. She does drop several assignments at the end of the semester.
There are tons of little assignments and the lecture videos are about an hour long there are usually 1-2 lecture videos a week but you have to watch them because of the attendance questions in them. About 1-2 quizzes a week and there are 2 homework every 2 weeks. Tests are pretty average, just do the reviews and practice test and it should be good.
Dr. Almus is a great teacher and all of her tests and quizzes are super simple. There is several online quizzes and homeworks but they are all quite easy. In my opinion, this course is much easier and simpler than the AP calc class I took in high school. Attendance is graded in the form of popper questions, although several poppers are dropped.
Do the homework and quizzes till you get an A, do the test review till you get an A, somewhat try on the exams and show up for those poppers in class, guaranteed you will pass the class with a B. I struggle with math but the work was doable, some assignments were hard but if you ask questions and look at the lecture notes you will do fine and pass.
its soooo much work oml, i feel i cant even keep up! The fast pace videos that are along almost 2 hours each is insane. There are poppers along with HW and quizzes. A test is already coming up after taking a test recently. she's nice but the workload is crazy. I dont have time for my other courses. I wont ever need this material in my career :(
I have 5 classes but I got more work in her class than the rest of my classes combined Doesn't do anything to relieve us of the unnecessary workload Tries to sound empathetic and helpful but won't do anything to actually help Have to memorize like almost everything One notes lecture video is like 10 pages of notes class makes me feel cornered
a quiz everyday, if not a quiz she gives a "homework". i have to use all of my attempts to be able to get a 100.
She is AWESOME the classes is a bit hard i also took calc 1 from her and i got A on that class. Calc 2 is a class that u need to put the work in there are a lot of homeworks quizzes lab quizzes. Like we would have 3 online quizes at a week w multiple attempts, one hw due friday, one lab quiz on thursday throughout the sem
Dr Almus was great when I took calc 1, she went over problems that were on the test and made sure we were prepared to solve them. I wish I could have taken her for calc 3 this semester.
She is a really good professor but you really need to make sure you are prepping for your tests and staying on top of your coursework or else you WILL fail this class. She sometimes skips over things like the basic things that you may not remember from previous math classes but if you self study you will be fine.
Almus is one of the best math professors. Honestly, I never went to class, I only started going towards the end just for popper points. Despite this, I still got an A. This is because her notes are extremely well done, and well explained. Just learn the shorthands she uses, and they are super informative. She gives a lot of reviews/practice tests.
Dr. Almus' online PreCal class had a heavy workload, but it was necessary. I'm not great at math, but I passed by putting in the time. Her notes and videos are clear and easy to follow. Exams are taken on campus with no calculators/formulas, so you really have to know the content. I'd take her again for sure. Effort really pays off in her class.
Took her for Calc 1 and 2 and ended up with a high grade. She is very lenient and understands if you have to miss a lecture or a quiz, so she drops a few of them. Pay attention in lecture, do the online quizzes, and you'll get a good grade. She also provides good study material for the tests.
if you are hungry to learn then this is the class for you. The whole semester was filled solely with math, i had a minimum of 4 math assignments every week just for this class alone.
Structured like a typical math class at UH (quizzes, homework, poppers due every week). She's super nice and has optional weekly meetings to go over material. Videos and assignments can be time consuming but they're not that bad. You can tell she really enjoys teaching math. Overall great professor!
This course was very time-consuming. Exams were often scheduled on the same day as new material, which made the workload overwhelming. While she rarely replies to emails, she does reopen quizzes if many students miss them. Her lecture videos are very helpful despite being boring.
Lots of homework, but if you do it, you don't need to spend much time studying for the exams. Lots of people show up to class solely for attendance, but it just isn't worth it (3% of our total grade). Either show up and learn, or don't show up. I skipped a couple lectures (like half of them), and still ended off with over a 100 bc of extra credit.
I absolutely ADORE Professor Almus. I took her for both Pre-Calculus and Calculus 1, and I did well in both classes. Just make sure to do the work and stay on top of the lectures and you will do well. She is so sweet, and I wish I could take her for the rest of my math classes.
There are a lot of assignments due throughout the week but they use relevant skills for the test. There are 3 tests and 1 cumulative final. All tests are taken at CASA on a Friday or Saturday for the online class so make time for those as soon as you receive the syllabus. Great class if you can self-teach math.
Even though I self-studied for the class because I didn't enjoy the lecture, she is a great professor. She sometimes goes too fast for me to understand. Her exam reviews are great, and the notes provide additional help in the class. I suggest doing the quizzes again and again as well as the practice exams. You also get extra credit for them.
Just terrible.
I took Precalculus during the mini summer term, and it was a very intense experience with a heavy workload. The material moved quickly, and there wasn't much time to fall behind. What really helped me were the lectures and the instructor's videos—especially if you stay focused and actually try to understand them.
I had a tough time with this course. There were constant grade-related emails, and I felt pressured over an academic issue that I didn't fully understand. My scores changed without clear explanation, and I ended up dropping. The course material is fine, but the class setup and communication need serious improvement. Be cautious online.
Shes a math prof and look at her rating, Im just here to boost it. Took her for precal, cal1, cal2. I LOVE HER SO MUCH. I have never understood math so well. She is so funny and kind. She teaches math in such a beautiful way I could cry. Made me consider switching my major to math. TAKE HER YOU WONT REGRET IT!!!!!
Dr. Almus is super kind and caring! She really wants to see her students succeed and I respect that. I always struggled with algebra when doing calculus but she made it so much easier for me to understand. Can go quite fast and there is a lot of homework but it's worth it!
Chill. Only cared about attendance later in the year.
No extensions, grace, or opt out. Homework and quizzes were so frequent. She made assignments due on break. Lectures were good, but the workload was too much especially for a freshman online course. Assumed students didn't have responsibilities or classes outside of her course, but expected you to show her grace as she taught other classes.
Professor Almus is the best professor for Cal 2. Calculus 2 has very heavy workload, so manage your time. Exams are very simple with maybe 2-3 average "Difficult" questions. Dr. Almus will create a review that revolves around the questions that she and the department have decided to include in the exam, so ATTEND THESE REVIEW LECTURES!!
I learned lots, but not because of her teaching. She is very organized and reliable, but she just does (too many) examples all class period long. I learned by practicing problems, not from anything she said in class meetings. I wish I had taken Sosa.
her ability to lecture was okay... she was slow, and would overcomplicate subjects that could be explained quickly. I would take this course online if you don't need the in-person lab because they were a waste of time.
truly goated prof this class was so easy.... wouldve gotten a 103 but i kept skipping class and ended up with a 98 like u gotta make an actual effort to do bad she gives u every resource ever and the tests are always MUCH easier then the reviews.. show up for an easy a+ would recommend
Professor Almus is such a great and caring instructor and I would recommend anyone to take her for precalc! I am someone who actually HATES anything to do with calculus and was genuinely considering dropping this class solely bc of the content. But once I locked in, and adhered to the advice she gave to prep for exams, I started to do so well !!
There are 4 weekly quizzes (2 at-home & 2 in lab), 6 handwritten homework assignments, occasional poppers, 3 exams, and 1 final exam. It is a lot of work, but practicing really helps in calculus, because you can retake each at-home quiz up to 10 times. Dr. Almus wants you to succeed and cares a lot about students, even those who don't love math!
Almus was a great professor. Her TA's help you with understanding the material and she prepared her students very well for the exams. She does assign quizzes and lab quizzes every week, but if you do them the exams should be relatively easy. Overall its a great class to take and you should end with a high A if you put in the effort.
I LOVE Dr. Almus. She is so sweet and amazing and gives lots of extra credit opportunity. I took calc 1 my freshman year which was 3 years ago so I had to play some catch up but even then I ended with an A. Put in the work and you will 100% pass with an A.
Boring. Class was ok but so boring. Did not learn a lot.
Professor Almus is an amazing professor, her teaching style is great. This course is heavy on quizzes, homework, and lab quizzes, but so are other math courses. She does drop a good amount of assignments and there's extra credit for tests. I'd recommend showing up to class, she does do occasional live mcq's at the end of lecture for participation.
