Only his looks kept me awake...
Who cares if he says a few words incorrect. Go to his country and speak perfectly. He's a decent professor.
This was the worst class I ever had. He was never available to help, he just told us to go the the econ lab for help from other students. It's a miracle i didnt fail this class, and it wasnt from lack of trying.
His compentence in the subject matter is remarkable.

He allowed me to make up a midterm. He was very nice and understanding. I thought he was a good teacher.
take him over the summer if u can cause then there is only 2 tests no hmwk or anything else.....i would not take him a full semester

It is very hard to understand his English. His grading policies are impossible. Last semester I understood the material perfectly, and he flunked me anyway. This was not fair to me at all, and I would not recommend him.
calmeiria = camra, doughmina peissa = dominos pizza... Fast & HARD TO UNDERSTAND!!! "Graph Happy" Nice guy... will try to help u, but language barrier is heavy... If u get on his good side... hes not so bad... but he is a strict grader.
he is one of the worst teachers iv'e had here at stockton. everyone failed our first test. he is kinda hard to understand, it gets annoying, only a midterm and a final. my recomendation is dont take this class. the first thing her said this semester was noone will probably recieve an "A".

awful. stubborn. the language barrier prevents understanding from both sides. difficult to understand and difficult to follow. grading is rediculous. wouldn't recommend taking him for any course.
The day before the test he gave us an in class group assignment and we were to look off on paper to a person. A few people went and made copies of it and he found the one kid and threatened to expell him for being "unethical". He then blamed the entire class and there werent even any freaking answer
well i was in the class as the person before me and let me tell you this guy is CRAZY... he seriously wanted to expell us/call the cops bc we just wanted to study something...that didn't even have the answers on it..he needs to learn english....if i can give you any advice..it would be to stay away.

He is the worst professor i have ever taken. What a loser! Don't take him, avoid at all possible costs.
Not as bad as everyone makes him sound if you get on his good side. Very hard to understand and moody. Altough, he did feel bad when we all failed the first test and gave another to do-over. Hard class, but I got an "A". Guess you can say I got on his good side.

I have to take him again b/c he gave me a freakin D. I tried all that I could, talking to him, extra credit, etc. and he just smilied and wrote me off. I wish there were other teachers teaching micro, such as Alpan b/c he was awesome.
blah. class is hard and teacher is a grouch, but as long as you get on his good side ull be fine. dont make him mad and show up to class and answer a few questions once and a while and you will pass

Pretty difficult with grading. If you show that you are trying, he will give you a break. Make sure you display interest!
If you pay attention in class, you will have no problems to understand.
if you do not need this class then DO NOT take it.

Complete Jerk. Decided my "punishiment" for missing a class due to a bad accident and showing him the police report for proof was to summarize the next two long-ass chapters and read my summary to the class. Not to mention ALL of the assigned readings were made a quite interesting topic VERY boring.

To-daaay in E-co-nom-ics, good professor, kind of difficult to understand, but paying attention in class helps. My friends and I enjoyed his stories about school trips south africa, and how In the US "these kids they barely afford beeg mac, there they eat tree course meal, for price of beeg mac"

once you get used to his insanely different accent i wouldn't say he is a terrible teacher but he is not good by ANY means and i wouldnt say that he is necessarily HARD but i would never recomend taking him to anyone. he will tell you that you need to buy this thing offline that he wrote, you DO NOT NEED IT SAVE YOUR MONEY. there are worse teachers
One of the worst teachers ever, he speaks very broken english, dosent teach well, and what he does teach is completley diffrent on the test. He is also a con artist!! Making you buy online "material" which is completley useless.
He really isn't that bad. No one in my class has trouble understanding him. He is a little demanding. He let us read freakonomics instead of taking a quiz which is pretty cool since the quizzes suck...he grades pretty lightly especially the 1st quiz. tests are like quizzes, hw is optional, but hw is like the quiz..goes over everything
Stay away from this guy, anyone who gives him good ratings is either an amazing suckup or Lakew himself. Worst teacher I ever had.
I took Dr. Lakew for the Discover Africa course. It was a telecourse and we had to meet 4 times. It was an easy class and he is very pleasant. His accent isn't that bad. There was a lot of reading. I would take another class with him.
Alot of people haven given Prof. Lakew a bad score. He is not a terrible teacher at all! I haven taken him two times, and though his accent sometimes is hard to understand, you can simply ask him to repeat it if it is an issue. Anytime I had difficulty he helped me outside of class. Most people want everything handed to them. ASK QUESTIONS IN CLASS
I wish I could use bad words. This man is rude and I hated every morning I had to sit through his class. I would recommend taking any other professor. The first week of class he was okay, but by October you want to run screaming.!
He is a little hard to understand. The main problem with him though is that he is terrible at clarifying concepts to his students. He also doesn't like questions. Take this class with another professor.
hes rearded. tests arent to bad but you have to teach urself. right form the book. tons of graphs, he cant even write english. "ISNT IT?!" is all he says. hes starting to make me laugh when he talks. 4 tests is ur grade, half multi choice and half open ended

hes a nice guy thats all to it he sucks in teaching micro in the summer he assumes we know wat he is talking about basically i taught myself we only had 5 classes and he cancelled one so we had 3 tests and an article assignment that went into our final grade no extra crdt do NOT take him unless u can understand sloppy writing and unclear speaking

His accent is virtually incomprehensible but that is nothing compared to his illegible handwriting. He's boring, and a horrible teacher. He over complicates the material, but that is only when he actually tries to teach. Otherwise, you are on your own. I had to teach myself everything. I would not recommend him.
I would not recommend this professor to anyone. He does not work with you and even if you explain situations to him beyond your control you still have to be in class. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR unless you dont have a choice.
never take this professor. you can't understand a word he says, or understnad his handwriting. his tests are very difficult and he does not prepare you for them. this class will frustrate you to no end. he is very useless and not teach at an intro level. also he makes you buy a $20 program that you dont use and is confusing! stay away from this guy
not all that bad. you get used to the accent and everything he teaches is online so if you miss a class you have the powerpoint. his tests are hard, but besides that it's little to no work. no papers to write except for a little 1 page summary. very easy math.

These reviews made me scared. Seriously, he's not that bad. His accent sounds kind of Scottish. I didn't have any issues understanding him. Problems on tests were easy, but the multiple choice were really tricky. I took it over the summer (prob the best way to get through it) and only had to go 5 times. Test each class, but ended up with a B. : )
He is a nice guy but this class is terrible. Class involves a ton of reading, he kept telling us he emailed things five days before we got them, and told us several times that tests would be take home and then changed his mind at the last minute. Do the homework or he'll try to punish you for not doing it by making exams harder.
Great Class...The trip to South Africa was amazing...Very informative class, and a life changing experience. you must take this class!
not a class for someone looking for an easy a.. however, he does a GREAT job helping students who don't understand material. no graded homework, just 4ish tests. very nice if you ask questions/talk! if you study/do the worksheets he gives you, there's no reason you shouldn't get minimum, a B. not bad overall!!
Worst teacher ever, he barely speaks English and gives out projects with ridiculously high standards with no real directions. I did every project and took every test without getting any failing grades(or Ds), attended all classes(hes the most boring guy ever),and received a C in the course. DO NOT TAKE !!!
Didn't do well, deserved a big fat F. Not a great teacher......BUT, he gave me a chance. I joined his club Books Without Borders, took donated books to his office, and you know what? I got extra credit out of it. Thank you Melaku.
I am a history major and I had been out of school for a little more then 3 years. I had a lot of problems understanding the economics aspects early in the semester. He was very understanding and helpful. Do the readings and the tests will be easy. One of my favorite classes of college and definitely my favorite class I've ever taken at Stockton
Micro was really hard, but he will give you a million powerpoints outlining the chapter and if you go to every class and take notes that material will become a lot easier. Exams are mostly charts and math problems so make sure to write down his examples. He curves all grades at the end so don't be too terrified when you get your hard exams back.
I agree that he is nice to you if you talk and show inrest, HOWEVER it is way to boring to do so..he goes WAY TO FAST and doesn't really teach you the material just kind of talks out loud and hopes everyone gets it. WILL SAY THE WORDS "ISN'T IT" 20 TIMES A CLASS I promise you!
Can't understand half of what he says. I am sure he knows his stuff...but can't teach it.

I had him for discover africa. it meets one day a week for 4 hours. you have to read books and write 4-5 page summaries. There is a lot of video watching in class, some of them are very boring. He's okay, it's a little hard to understand him. At least he knows a lot about the subject.
Easily the worst professor I've ever had at Stockton. I am a Dean's List Accounting Major in my senior year. I know what a hard class is. Dr. Lakew has a very weak grasp on the English language and frankly is a pretty rude person. I got an A in Macro from a difficult professor and i'll probably get around a C in this class. He is HORRIBLE.
He knows a lot about the subject and talks about it, but the class is kind of boring. He likes to keep you the whole time and puts on movies to watch. There is also a lot of reading involved.
This is for anyone who has to take Professor Lakew. I took him twice at stockton and both times was doing terrible. However, Melaku can be gotten too. Donate to his books without borders charity and he will make sure you get at least a C or passing grade with minimal effort. Good luck young ospreys

This guy doesn't use textbook and he made a test contains more than 5 chapters, lots of project, very strict on the syllibus, not recommended at all
Ive had him twice, micro and marketing. His power pts did not match what he used in class. He skipped a lot of topics in lecture, assuming you would understand it from the textbook. I missed 1 of 4 tests due to the flu and after 5 emails to him with no help, he finally tells me in class the next week that I will be graded on 1 less test. Unfair.
Had Lakew for 2 classes, he's a tough cookie. Illegible handwriting, not easy tests, pretty unreasonable guy but get on his good side early and it will make things tolerable. Lakew makes classes harder than they should be, he is a tough grader and expects you to read quite a lot. He means well in all honesty but his classes are painfully boring
Attendance is 10% of your grade, 10% is a 1-2 page paper, if it's late then you lose the 10%. 20% for each one of the 4 exams. He gives you a study guide which is pretty much identical to the exam so as long as you do it and understand it then you will be fine for the exam. It is a pretty easy class, do not take Ghorashi.
I had him for intro to micro. It was very hard to understand his accent. He was a very tough grader on tests and not understanding. I would not take him again and would go back and take someone else if I could.
He doesn't care if you fail, he'll blame it on you for not seeing him during his office hours
His class is fairly easy. There are 4 tests that count for 20%, a 1-2 page current events paper that counts for 10%, and attendance is 10%. His lectures are boring, and his accent is hard to understand. He gives you a study guide that has all of the multiple choice and problem sets similar to what will be on the test. He goes over answers too.
He knows what he is talking about but is a little all over the place when it comes to teaching and grading. Helpful to and caring towards his students but his grading is not always consistent.
He shouldn't be a professor. He was never clear on material, the class was 80% test based, he was not understanding of when students were struggling, and blamed the students when the whole class confronted him on his teaching style's failure to teach students material. Highly recommend do not take his class.
