I'd read reviews on here that told me not to take this professor online during Summer B, but there were no issues. The class is a good foundation if you didn't have any chemistry in high school, and it's not a terrible amount of work to complete in a month, though there are a lot of assignments. She offers extra credit on every discussion post.

I took this class during Summer B. There was a lot of information to cover in a short amount of time, but nothing is terribly difficult. Professor Veige structures the grading in a way that I think it would be hard to get less than an A. Multiple low grades are dropped, and there is a lot of "help" built in to give your grade a boost.

Yes, it is easy to get an A in this course given that an 88% is considered an A+. However; Melanie Veige is the worst instructor in the world. If you need to take this course as a prerequisite, good luck because you won't learn chemistry. I took this online and her lectures are terribly organized and hard to follow. Meanest professor I've ever had. I took AP Chem so the labs were a breeze, but if your TA gives you explicit directions prepare to get marked down for following them and not be able to get the points back even with the TA on your side!

CHM1025 was entirely online over the summer and she did not teach every (recorded) lecture. When she did, it was kind of confusing and covered beyond the textbook and what we actually needed to know for the exam. The last few quizzes (probably autogenerated) were also extremely hard for no reason. Other than that, this class is easy overall.

I think I saw her like twice over an entire year. She spams AI “art” all over the canvas page and at one point the course devolved into AI lab procedures. Even my TA didn't know what she meant in those instructions sometimes. Easy but felt so tedious.

There was so much Achieve homework that the 2 credits this course is worth for felt like a lie. It's not an egregious amount of information to absorb, but with the time given over Summer B, it felt very rushed. No incentive to watch the recorded lectures, as all the information on the HW/exams comes from the textbook.

Everything is graded by your TA's but the class itself is so useless. Your already taking gen chem but this class meets for 3 hours once a week and just take sup your time. If your TA is good the you'll be fine, but shes a horrible person

She gave us busy would that never enhanced our learning or had anything to do with the labs, used AI generated information and would deduct points for "missing" assignments even when you got permission from the TA for a specific circumstance. The TAs carried in actually teaching the course and making it passable.

I received an A in this class; however, I will say that this class is not run by this professor but rather indirectly run by her. I can confidently say that this class is completely useless, filled with busy work, and counterintuitive compared to the main lecture class. Final exam makes no sense, AI lazy slop used by the professor.

She is so insanely strict and mean. Make sure to submit everything on time and follow the rubric for the assignments. I got lucky, my TA was amazing and very helpful during labs, gave me the answers. Class is dependent on your TA, but she is very passive aggressive, only saw her maybe twice.

this class mainly depends on your TA, but Veige has been unpleasant the few times I have had to encounter her. she's cold and unapproachable. don't miss a lab, even if you're bedridden, just go. she is unforgiving with absences, no matter how valid. as long as you show up and don't miss assignments, you shouldn't have to interact with her

You just have to hope for a good TA. Mrs Veige heavily relies on AI for creating quizzes and assignments (so quizzes typically have at least one question graded incorrectly). The class is kind of a waste of time, but it's not too hard to get an A if you do everything asked of you and just follow the grading rubric.

Depends on your TA, but follow the rubric to a T and you'll be fine. Lab final was fairly easy. Just show up and ask your TA lots of questions to ensure you're doing everything right. Veige loves ChatGPT and uses it to create everything. I had to email her once and she responded fairly quickly, but besides that, I never interacted with her.

Your TA does all the grading, so your time in the class mostly depends on that. There are rubrics for everything so follow those and you'll be fine. Thankfully didn't have to interact with her much, but in the final q & a she's very blunt, rude, and doesn't seem keen on helping. Only said yes to taking her again bc she's the only chem lab prof.

I've never communicated with her once (hence the 1), but my TA was great. Your grade is reflective of how good your TA is. Mine helped a lot in lab and graded notebooks fairly. Just pay attention in lab and follow rubrics to a T and you'll be fine. Submit pre-labs on time because you won't be able to make them up, and those will eat up your grade.

Don't take this if you already have AP (or other) credit and feel comfortable with basic lab techniques--it is a waste of time. The class itself is fine but the attendance policy and Veige herself are unforgiving. Didn't interact with her much but the few times I did (re quiz grading errors) she was rude and snippy. Not horrible but not enjoyable.
