She is a great teacher! She has a talent for making the students feel welcome by keeping up with the current "slang" and current "fads". She is patient and fully explains the material. She has a great sense of humor. I highly recommend

shes very helpful..she doesnt give up until u understand the assignment for an essay..she goes over chapters all the time wih you until you get it which is nice as well but if you dont ask questions or make comments about a particular essay she'll stop
I don't know whether she was teaching an English class, or a Religion class. She is very hard, and numerous people I have talked to feel the same way. Other than that, easy to get along with, and she cannot stop talking.
This teacher uses so much modern slang and "ebonics" it is hard to beleive she is an English teacher. I hate to recieve e-mail from her. It makes me shudder to read all those "YO YO's and I be chill'n words. Easy AAAA!

SHES VERY DETAILED-ORIENTED IS WHAT I LOVE ABOUT HER. SHE GIVES GOOD ADVICE AND BOOSTS YOUR GRADE IF YOU'RE NOT DOING GOOD.
She is a hard teacher, so if your looking for an easy "A" run. But if your really into english and want a strong english foundation shes the teacher for you. She grades tough, and will give you a "D" if you do "D" work, no mattter how hard you try. She forces you to do better than you ever have!
Very hard teacher. shes fun to listen to but when it comes to grading its very difficult. she makes me hate english.. :P
She is very dramatic, but teaches very well. You will not get an easy A, but she is very fair. She is a personable hip teacher.
Nice teacher but 2/3 of the grade was a final project. It seems unfair for someone to get As on all the essays and then get a bad grade beacuse they did badly on a group paper and presentation.
One of the coolest teachers around; she knows exactly what's she is doing, she's very organized, easy to talk to and knows her stuff! This class is not something to just swing by in, it's tough, but who doesn't want that challenge and she's willing to help every step of the way, what an awesome teach
She rocks!!! a fabulous teacher...4 essays and a project at the end of the semester, it's a piece of cake!
she is a really funny, beautiful, intelligent teacher that I really enjoyed having as a teacher. I hate english, but she kept me interested and motivated. And I respect her for that. plus she look good
She is da bomb, super cool, pretty and funny. you actually have to work but she will help you out if u need it. very good teacher. stay on top of the reading and writting and you'll be fine, she's not easy but she's fair.
Awesome teacher, very smart, beautiful black woman!!
She keeps the class going from day to day, but spent the whole semester on one book. I got tired of analyzing the same story every day, so if you're looking for an interesting class, don't take this one. plus she grade harshly.
tough but fair. very funny and drop dead gorgeous! loved just looking at her every week. plus, she is a great professor. i feel as if i have a strong foundation for writing after her class. super cool, approachable, one of the best.
Hard class, but do your work and you'll past. The teacher has a great personality.
She appreciates and respects a hard working student. At first she may seem impersonal and hard nose, however I think it is her way of establishing boundaries. She is actually an outgoing, humorous, fun loving extremely articulate teacher(with a sensitive side)but don't let her know that! She loves her job!! I found a love for writing!!
At first she seems hard but if u do your work and come to class every day she wont fail u! She makes the calss intersting and fun but at the same time expects ALOT! This is definetly a class for someone who wants to learn and push themselves...definetly not to slack off! I though she was great!
It’s not an easy class & she comes off strict in the beginning of the semester, but giver her a few weeks & you’ll see that she’s realy friendly, outgoing & helpful. She lectures clearly & you always know what you have due & where you should be on your projects. But she does do a lot of Shakespeare work so you have to pay attention & stay on course
While Lewis-Butts is an amazing teacher, her final is lame. I hate being subjected to working in groups or presenting in front of the class. Great teacher if you enjoy a high-school flashback.
She is really sweet, her way of teaching is great. yay i will survive english after all!
she's alright for a engwr teacher. She's pretty hot, but i find that she's somewhat boring.
I really did not like her class everything was group work and my group sucked and i couldn't switch because all the other groups were full. The book i liked. When my group came to her for help she wasn't much help at all.I did all my work and got good grad
She is anything but boring or high school. If students do not like presenting or group work, it is their fault for taking the class--read the syllabus on the first day, dah! I love her; she's very smart. Awesome teacher!
She is a great teacher, but she gives a crapload of work. She gives work as if that is the only class you're taking. She expects a lot from 302 students and does not give enough prep time for essays and she expects the to be an A+ paper with a week's worth of prep. She definitely has her teaching down and her class isn't really boring, but if you hate group work and hate a lot of work, then this class is not for you. I suggest Pratts for English. I hear he is pretty good and he doesn't give as much work.
Dr Lewis loves teaching & definitely Shakespeare, expects a lot and guides you throughout the course. She is a lot of fun and appreciates hard work. Group work is required but she prepares you to work with poeple. Highly recommended if you want to know how to write WELL ! I loved the Toulmin's schema
Yuck! Hot? Not! This teacher is full of herself. She is continually talking to the class in a "baby-voice" and can't seem to get over her personal problems. I just don't see why the comments on this site do not reflect her annoying and cry-baby attitude.
Very hot, very smart and very helpful and professional. Dr. Lewis made this semester enjoyable. She's awesome, but you must work hard. She expects a lot which made me excel as a student. Thank you, De. Lewis
She is alot of fun, very informative when it comes down to giving you advice on how to write an essay however, tough on grading. She expects that you pull an A on everything. This is not a laid back class, expect to work. She taught me alot and would take her class again.

i love her...she is very smart and interesting,...i did not miss any classes because of her...i always wanted to learn more...her final is a bit hard but interesting,...i did not like presentations because i don't like public speaking,...but she is the best English teacher ever
She is hot, but she is so much more. Interesting, funny, challenging, supportive. She knows her stuff! I would take any class from her. She's the best.
I LOVE Dr. Lewis! She is the best English teacher! She likes it when you express yourself well in your writing. I learned to become a better writer because of her. Thanks Dr. Lewis:) Also, Mr. Pratt is hard teacher and he his coursework is rigorous (ENWR300)
DR. LEWIS IS A GREAT TEACHER! SHE KEEPS IT REAL. ALTHOUGH, YOU CANNOT SLACK OFF AT ALL IN HER CLASS BECAUSE YOU MAY FALL BEHIND. SHE'S ABLE TO TAKE TIME TO EXPLAIN STUFF IF YOU NEED HELP. I FELT SHE WAS VERY HELPFUL WITH MY ESSAYS.
This professor was very clear about her expectations, which made it farely easy to pass her class.
Very unorganized. Talking to other friends in this class with me we all agree that she is moody and odd.
Dr. Lewis is brilliant! She is a very passionate lecturer. Her class is my favorite. She respects the intelligence of the class and can seem tough, but she is really just trying to help us become better writers and students. I highly recommend her Diop Scholars class.
She rocked. I took her back in Summer 2004 and passed with flying colors because she was very thorough. She expects a lot of her students, but she provides you with guidelines to follow. Go see her during office hours. You rocked Melanie. I was in the PACT group with Rosie and Andrew.
great prof. focused on her student doing well in her class, great materials used for class. intelligent woman, not concerned about media but community. one of the best teachers i have had. also, she is beautiful.
She is much helpfull
Dr Lewis is different, she has great ideas and is very passionate. yet sometimes things she expects are not very clear; she tends to go off on tangents. overall she is an ok teacher but not the easiest.
She's got to be one of the rudest teachers I've ever had. She walks in class with a crappy expression on her face, and is constantly giving students major attitude. She spends 20% of her the time talking about herself, and 50% talking about how crappy the students in her classes are. Gives a sentence exam, and nobody passes because she can't teach.
Simply Amazing.
A hard working Teacher. She is a great teacher, really fun loving and nice, the corse is just hard because she expects more out of you then the class is intended.
She was awesome, tough, but awesome
She tends to get off topic and she loves to hear herself talk. She's not really funny but thinks she is and she gets mad when we don't write down every word she says when more than half of what she says is not important! if you're desperate take her class and try to act interested, she'll like you more.
she is one of the best teachers i have ever had. i had her for two classes. she's extremely organized...which is great...and she grades your papers on time. her class was easy for me b/c i'm an english major, but anyone will do well that comes to class ON TIME and takes notes, and participates. just have a good attitude and you'll get an A.
Exceptional teacher. Really cares about the students intellect and knowledge. Extremely helpful and knowledgable about subject. Teaches with joy. Very informant.
Dr. Lewis is very passionate about her career. She is one of the few professors that shine like a superstar. If you commit to your bargain of the deal, she'll definitely keep hers. You will grown into a better writer, increase vocab, and build confidence to argue/debate point[s]. If you are looking for a free and easy "A"- NOT THERE- but she is B

1)She was late everyday and made us all late in the end.2) Wasted $55 on a book never used. 3) Wish I made a grade print out because she lowered it on B.B.3) karma will get her back even though i wasn't able to get her suspended. What comes around, goes around.
SHE IS A SMART TEACHER,HELPFUL, SHE GARDES HER STUDENTS BY HOW MUCH EFFORT THE PUT IN HER CLASS. SHE IS GOOD AS FAR AS HER TEACHING, IS NOT LOST LIKE Professor: Walson Heide... OVERALL SHE IS THE RIGHT TEACHER FOR ENGWR300, YOU WILL LEARN ABOUT THE FAMOUS PEOPLE, WHOM WANT US TO LEARN A LESSON IN LIFE. SO PLEASE GO FOR HER.
I have to say that i really didn't enjoy her class. She talked down to students a lot and got mad at us like we were in high school still. She expects too much, but she is very attractive and that is one incentive.
Disorganized, not dependable, moody, inconsistent
Dr. Lewis is awesome! I had her in Fall of 2008 for Intro to Shakespeare. She is a very good teacher and it is evident she loves teaching Shakespeare! If you read the plays, the quizzes/tests are easy to get a good grade on. One Literary Research Paper required in the class. I hope to take a class w/ Dr. Lewis again!
A truly inspiring professor! She demands a lot from her students, but do not be intimidated by the class. It really teaches you so much and betters you for the future. Dont run off from this class if you dont understand poetry or old lit, or if you dont want/are afraid to write the long demanding term paper. I didnt and I got an A &all that changed
Demands a lot from her students. The workload is SO MUCH MORE than what a 3 unit class is typically for. She is pretty anal about attendance and especially participation so be sure to not skip class or else you will get marked down. Keep yourself in check throughout the semester and you should do fine. I did and I managed to pull out an A-.
Dr. Lewis is an outstanding professor & is passionate about the subject she teaches (English). She does demand a lot from her students, but if you are willing to be open she wil pull to surface skills you never imagined you possesed. Take Prof.Lewis if you really want to learn how to concisely express your written or verbal abilities.Shes Boom
Lewis is quite demanding of her students, but she is the best professor I have had at CRC. If you use her office hours and complete all the assignments then you'll pass with at least a B.
Dr. Lewis is an amazing professor!! Achieving an A is not impossible in her class, but it sure isnt easy! if u follow her guidelines and do all your assigned work you will grow as a writer and be extremely successful!! i recommend dr. lewis for any student who is progressing towards a higher education!
Dr. Lewis is an amazing teacher. She expects her students to work really hard and pushes them to do their bests. Essays and quizzes come from the reading. The final can worked on together in groups. Lewis can get moody on D2L, but when she returns to class she feels all better. Students will learn outside information. Good luck!
This was a challenging class, simply because she expects a lot out of you. However, she is incredibly upfront and down to earth. I don't think I've ever written as many pages for any other class, but I did learn a lot. If you want to learn from a professor who really cares, then take Dr. Lewis' class. If you want to slack off, then don't.
Great professor. The final project is massive and the overall coursework is demanding, but if you make sure to go to her office hours and do every assignment you'll get an A. Probably the best professor I've had at CRC.
nicest, most caring teacher that I've had at CRC! I highly recommend her. The essays are required in any class but she helps you through them and she's WAY helpful in office hours too!
A lot of work, but very helpful. She reads Shakespeare in class and explains it thoroughly so quizzes on book is a breeze. Very inspiring, just be prepared for a lot of homework. Dr. Lewis gives great advice on essays for you to make improvements.
She is one of the best professors I have ever taken. She will be one of the most demanding professors you will ever have but when you are finished with her class, it feels like you just won a triathalon. Take her class if you are serious about school and about transferring.
Ms lewis is fun to learn form. The class is relatively easy if you come to class and pay attention, which is easy because she is a fun informative lecturer. Not to mention she is pretty fine w/ ass for days! She pushes the students to seek more out of school, people and life. I'd def recommend her
Lewis is highly educated, friendly, and sexy as hell. She acts like she is super tough but the class is pretty easy if you listen and participate. She always gets the class talking about the correlation of her lecture to current events so the class time flies by. It helps that she is pretty hot with tremendous culo.
man this woman is crazy... what are u smokin lady? i want 2 of what ur havin. she gives a ridiculously insane amount of work. so much that she is constantly moving dates around to accomodate for all the tests and essays she gives. worst class ive ever taken.. if u want to actually have a life outside of school and school work dnt take her class.
Lewis is a great professor! She is extremely demanding &expects ALOT out of her students. Very draining, but worth it in the end. She pushes you to limits you didn't know you could go. When she explains topics, she explains them thorough! Im proud to say I accomplished her class with an A! Do all your work & come to class everyday to be successful!
Her class started off in inferno. Middle purgatory and the end was paradiso . She's in love with dante. Very strict professor . Will not accept anything late. If you Learn by her rules you'll be fine.. Come to class everyday. She tells you exactly what you need to know to pass. Lectures tell you exactly what needs to be on essays . Exams are exact
I honestly don't know why other people complain about her. She is very demanding, but yet she tells you the questions and answers to tests and quizzes the day before. I slacked off towards the end and received a B. The final is what you basically need to focus on, but if you pay attention and TAKE NOTES, you'll do just fine.
Dr. Lewis is an excellent instructor. Loves Dante; I fell in love with the book as well. Learned a lot from Dr. Lewis; she really knows her stuff from English to the outside world of yesterday and today. If you want to learn take her class. She really cares about her students and will help you to earn your best grade. Attendance is important.
Dr. Lewis made English enjoyable for me through her use of personal experiences and her sense of humor. I was intimidated by her syllabus at first but managed to pull a B even with a missing essay. Still not a fan of Dante but I definitely improved my writing skills in this class. I recommend Dr. Lewis to all those who welcome a challenge and love a good laugh.
Lewis is a very uptight, strict teacher. Super meticulous, but you will learn ALOT (structuring of essays, ect.) class basically revolves around Dante. she also assigned a monster 35 page essay, but now writing essay's are a breeze! take her if you want the knowledge. it's worth it.
She's funny, nice, and knows her stuff. Her class is definitely a lot of work but if you come in every day, she gives you a lot of helpful info. My writing skills have definitely improved. Even a slacker like me got a high grade. Out of all the CRC Enlish teachers, I highly recommend her.
Awesome teacher, knows what she is doing. She is funny, nice, and easy to get along with. You have to earn your grade with a lot of hard work but its worth it in the end. You'll realize you learned a lot near the end. The actual homework besides the essays are really easy and are a must do or your grade will suffer. Take her!
Lots of work to do. Only easy thing is she gives us all the questions from the test/quizzes. But on the other hand she's hard with everything else, such as grading essays and the final project. The final project is a huge time consumer. It's like a business project that's 50% of our class grade. I don't see how it relates to English honestly.
If I can get pass her beautiful appearance I should be fine but she better than ENGWR WHATEVER #!!!!!!!!!!!!1
She is always being helpful in class, and she even makes the class enjoyable at the same time. If you like to read and write, and you enjoy it when your teachers talk about current and past events, then this class is for you.
First she is amazing! adn funny. She grades hard but if you want to be a better writer and are willing to put in the effort she will help your get there. She loves Dante and has very good lectures which make it easy to understand! If your looking for an easy A dont take her, she is challenging but worth it!
Great teacher! She cares about her students. Attendance is very important!I definitely improved my public speaking skill. Also,I learned how to work fast on the quizzes. Her lectures were very clear and detailed. She is hard but fair. However,if you prepare and put your effort to your work, this class is not that hard.
The best english teacher I've ever had. Before this class, I would've never thought that I could get an A on an essay. She's very clear about what she expects from her students and she does what she says she's going to do. Although I took her class during the Spr '10 semester, I still use her papers as a reference here at UC Berkeley!
She is a good teacher. However, you can't slack or put things off for her class. It's harder but it will make your future papers easier to do.
She is tough. Work hard and you'll do fine on average scale. We read 3 books in one semester. Dante, Milton, and....!
Eng 302, 3 books Inferno, Pard Lost, Dr. Faustus + Writing Argmt. She Loves Dante's Inferno and belief in his policy of no excuse; If u have problems just keep it to yourself. she grade hard on essays, but little easy on quizzes. her essays are UC level and super hard, especially her Rogerian and Cause + effects, they are death warrant. I like her
Very strict. High expectations. Wants her students to succeed. Fair grader. Lots of reading. You will work for you grade but it's not impossible to get an "A". She doesn't care about your personal problems. Show up. Do the work.
Amazing, best English class I have ever taken. She actually challenged me and brought my writing to a whole new level.
If I can do it, you can do it too. She's tough but she's not something you can't handle.
She is cool. The quizzes and homework are free points. I had trouble with the essays because her instructions weren't clear at all. I was confused every time we had an essay assignment, but I did well on the essays because I can come up with a lot of BS. She does repeat herself a lot. I'll give this one to you for free, use the D2L discussions.
Taking her class actually helped me excel in other classes. She does give extensive papers/school work but she expects you to perform like a college student and not a high school graduate. Come to class all the time, use her office hours. I recommend her class to everyone.
Funny, enthusiastic, inspirational. Yet, an enigma among students. Her syllabus is hard for a college level class. I would only recommend this class for those truly ambitious people. Those who do not mind having sleepless nights. If you wish to expand your mind and improve writing skills take this class; otherwise, stay away !!!
Not the easiest class in the world, but it is very do-able. She expects you to know a lot, but as college students, we should. Very educated & gives much notice in advance of what she expects. Even with that, DO NOT TAKE HER. I dropped her class with a B with 3 weeks left because I just could not tolerate how blatantly DISRESPECTFUL she is.
Avoid her! She expects way too much for a lower-level class and even tells that what she is doing is so we can be a step ahead in the next level class. However that's not a problem for 101 students since she says she hates teaching 101 and won't ever teach it again.
Over talks lectures, very unclear. Expects way too much abstract or metaphoric expressive thought in paperstests. I always left class, online discussions, tests, etc. feeling like, can we just get to the point Also had the class divided into groups of 4+. Class was then taught by the groups individually. Boring, pointless and contradictory.
The worst and rudest professor at this school. There is no way to get a good grade in this class. She will change the criteria to keep you from getting it. She assigns novel asking for your interpretation, reality is she wants you to write what she says. It would be great if she could just say that in the syllabus and not play games.
I'm still upset I took this professor a few semesters back. With her degrading comments towards other students, she holds a sense of entitlement since she graduated from UC Berkeley. My GPA has lowered and compared to other peers, this class was 5x harder then theirs (even in the 300 level!). Papers were long and hard (10+ pages on Machiavelli).
All of the seats were full on the first day, and by the end, there were only 10 students in her class. She can come off to be mean and rude, but she is just a perfectionist and doesn't tolerate any slacking or bs. She is very upfront and she will teach you how to be a more complex and analytical writer.
Her grading is tough but she's just pushing her students to be better writers. However she is very disrespect ice and abuses her power. I simply asked her if she could reconsider my participation grade (60%) since I participated a lot but she threatened me, causing me to get emotional distress from her threat.
Dr. Lewis is a fantastic professor, but... Participation and attendance are critical; you must contribute to discussion at least twice per class session to receive your participation points, which are a tenth of your grade. Make sure you ask your questions ahead of time. If you wait 'til the last minute, won't give adequate help.
Better take another class disrespectful, rude, unclear, and confused.
Dr. Lewis' class is challenging, but very rewarding. She will make you a better writer and give you skills to further your academic career. If you are looking for the easy grade DROP NOW! She will make you bleed for your A, but it was also the most rewarding and inspirational class I have taken up to date. Highly recommend her but you must work!
Took her for an online writing class. The only bad thing I can really say is she uses Comic Sans
VETERANS BEWARE, this is not the class for you. Extremely rude, unclear, and untruthful. Pay attention to the comments on her in the Vets Blog. I didn't and I regret it.
Intelligent, but rambles and is very sarcastic, yes, even her typing is sarcastic. For online class, discussions with classmates are helpful, so post and respond often. Expect quizzes to be in essay form. Lots of reading and writing.
There are a lot of books to read but she talks about them all and you watch movies to them as well. There is an end of the year paper that is simple but long. She is a great teacher and enjoyable to have.
This professor is very tough on the essays. She's is an extremely diffcult grader and expects us to be writing at a 303 level when we're only at 101. She gives essay after essay. And does a little grammar. But I have Improved my writing since iv been in her class.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PROFESSOR EVER! She has been by far, the worst professor I've had in my learning career. Her prompts are very unclear and she expects so much out of her students. As others have said, she is very rude! I regret not dropping the class when I had the chance to.
Gives lots of information on the reading material itself but isnt exactly clear on what she wants from you for the essays. Probably the hardest class ive taken, she expects a lot from you. Midterms youre allowed to bring in research material but construct an essay in class, choose from 3 prompts. Final was same but from 5 prompts
Very smart but cocky. talk with a little attitude, kind of rude. not very clear about her essay prompt. Not very helpful also.
I would say you will be crazy if you take this class with her, WHY? because she is the worst and rudest professor at this school. There is no way to get a good grade in this class. The essays are unclear so many posts you will be confusing, reality is she wants you to W. that's what I did.
Rudest professor I've ever had in my entire schooling career. She is cocky and very sarcastic. She ask the students if they have any questions and whatever you ask she will answer you rude. Do yourself a favor and don't take her class unless you want to be stressful and received rudeness from a professor.
I've taken two classes with her and dropped both of them. She messed up the schedule and didnt fix it. Irrelevant tangents are normal. I didn't make it far enough to know about the midterm, but my friend told me that she had walked into a midterm that required research. Apparently it's an easy A if you can put up with it.
Professor Lewis is smart and you can learn a lot, but you have to get around her sarcastic style and really read into the things she says and posts. I like her, but it's not a class I would take again. So much reading and trying to figure out. Things aren't always very clear, so you really have to search for your answers, leaving you unsure a bit.
Dr. Lewis is very prestigious and let's you know it the moment you walk in her classroom. She flaunts he successes on her students. She is the toughest class I have ever taken. 20 page papers are still no good enough even when the requirement was 10. 2 many unknowns take her class if you want to be guessing and subjecting yourself 2 a low grade.
The work and the course can be intimidating at first, but if you pay attention in class; there's no reason why you can't pass this class. She goes over everything in detail in class covers both the plays and essays in extreme detail. The only issue I had was balancing the lecture quizzes and essays. Other than than, I thought it was pretty easy
I took her for the summer so she was much more lax, but she was still such a hard grader. Dr. Lewis is almost like a character in Othello; its amazing because she is so into it. She makes class fun most of the time.
She is tough, but if you show up to class and pay attention to her lectures you should be fine. It won't be very hard to pay attention because she talks very fast, to the point and passionately.
She is a fantastic teacher! Very insightful and knows her stuff. 4 homework assignments, 4 essays, 2 exams, and a few chapter quizzes total. 10/10 would take her class again!
Lewis is nice and pretty funny. Her lectures are interesting, but not impartial. Two exams, a research paper, and regular homework. The grading criteria is unclear.
Hybrid online course where she was very vague about what she REALLY wanted in the papers. She would, however, be very specific about what stance she wanted us to have in the paper and if we weren't spot-on with every single detail, points were docked. Half way through the semester, I missed more than 2 classes and she dropped me with no hesitation.
A very hard class to get an A in. Lots of reading and lots of essays, but she was liberal with extensions on due dates. Very accommodating.
Hybrid online course taken. One class a week, used to reiterate online content already given out. Professor always told students to look online if they had any questions, including office hours, if ever asked in person. constant off rail subjects, and essays with unusual personal flavor. Came off as callous, wasteful of class time, and indifferent.
Professor Lewis is a great professor! She really cares about her students. Shes funny and engaging in lectures and gives great feedback. My only regret was not putting a little more effort into the class. I could have taken a lot more away from it.
Her class is really hard, read a lot, write a lot, and require a weird understanding of book
For the first half of the semester, it was 2-3 essays a week. Tons of readings, lots of poems, discussions, etc. You really have to work for your A. She was nice enough, but a tough grader. On the research paper (worth a TON), the highest grade you can get is like a 90% because she's picky. Midterm and final are also very hard. work hard and pass.
Took the hybrid class with one lecture a week. She was very lively even though the class was early and everyone was still asleep and quiet. There are lots of essays, but she shows you examples in class so as long as you make your essays like those you should be fine. She definitely makes you work though and you will have to carefully read the books
Don't take this professor, the amount of attitude and unecessary comments she makes on everything makes the class unenjoyable. I took her online ENGWR302 as I needed it for credit and she treats this class as if I'm supposed to be the professor and know everything. She is very degrading in my opinion and not helpful. 10/10 would not recommend.
I am currently taking this professor right now and so far in the few years of being at crc I have never seen a professor be so degrading and childish towards their students before. Do not take this professor whatsoever as she does not respect students at all and does not think there is a problem with her quizzes when the majority of the class fails
An extraordinarily superfluous amount of readings, assignments, discussions, quizzes and tests for online class. Before the course even began, she had sent out seven emails: clear demonstration of disorganization. Ain't nobody got time for that. This is community college; this is not UC Berkeley Advanced Composition. Calm Down.
I do not recommend taking this professor. Her disorganization is clear and this class is not meant to be advanced writing, it is only writing composition which is a basic english class. A spectacular flop of a class as she only reads outlines and does not bother to read draft papers to give better feedback for students.
terrible terrible prof. four essays in the semester and 3 of them are research papers. tests are time limited essays in 2 hours. you have to read about four literature. she absolutely make this class much harder and i really regret took her class. if you want write 10 pages long essay and get a low grades, i def recomond her to u.
I took Calculus 3 (Math402) and that class is much less time consuming and far easier than Lewis's EngWr302 class. I have never been so frustrated by an english teacher in my life. Her lectures are terrible since they are based on the announcements she posts online. She wants 4 developed research essays that have to be in her desired structure.
She gives out too much work and expects quantity over quality. This is a second year English class and is not supposed to be this difficult. She loves 10 page essays. I don't recommend taking her class if you have a full schedule. The required literature is very hard to understand and requires supplemental understanding. Do not take her please.
If you love or value anything in your life, do not take Dr. Lewis's class. Do not listen to any of the good reviews, they are false. Although I excelled in Lewis's class, she was the absolute worst. 4 10-page papers, meaningless discussions, and pointless lectures indicate her failure as an educator.
Took the online 302 and this has been one of the most challenging and stressful courses I have ever taken. 3 challenging books to read with quizzes, 4 8-10pg. research papers with a specific format, double weekly discussions and excessive announcements to keep up with. Be prepared to write and read to the next level if you plan on taking this class
I took her hybrid class and although I did well in her class, it was so demanding. 4 8-10 pg essays DARK novels, discussions and millions of announcements a week. She expects a lot out of 302 students as you are the "top of the food chain." You do get to watch Get Out (jordan peele) which was cool but writing about it comparing it to Faustus? NOPE
Please... please don't take her. At the end of the semester, there were only 9 people left in her class. Her emails are not professional. Heavily grades on MLA. Forget to indent? -10 points. Works cited not flawless? -20 points. She does not accept late papers whatsoever. Just... don't. Save yourself the extra stress. Hybrid/online
I dont recommend anyone to take her class. Shes really tough grader, and the essays are so complex to write. We have two timed tests, which is the final and the midterm, so if you dont do well your grade drops badly. She also gives 5 literature quizzes and she doesnt help that much explains the material for each quiz.
This class was super challenging in a very good way. Prof Lewis has one think outside the box and really explore different literature. She will push you, but not unreasonably so. I have taken her twice and I have enjoyed both classes. She gives great feedback if you find yourself stuck. I highly recommend this class.
Probably the hardest class I've taken to date, but still very rewarding. She challenges you to do your very best and has a high standard for your work. My writing has greatly improved through taking this class and while it's not a class I would want to take again, she gave great lectures and was very clear on the grading criteria.
Please dont listen to the few good reviews. I have a feeling theyre just her trying to fluff her ratings. She was genuinely such an awful professor. Unclear, not empathetic, didnt improve my writing b/c she never gave any good or helpful feedback. Super childish, passive-aggressive. Do not take her if you value your mental health.
just outright lazy. She mandated a sociology textbook and only used poetry that was the first Google search result as the sole aspect of literature. Her announcements are excessive, incoherent, and even passive-aggressive at times. She had multiple errors in her rubrics/keys yet would never admit any fault, instead insisting we call the publisher
As expected of an online class, lots of discussions. Also had to complete about 10 journals, quizzes, midterm and final. And of course a research paper. This class was a lot of work which tired me out and made me not try as hard but the information is interesting at times. She also sends A LOT of emails so you (hopefully) won't be confused about hw
This was by far the hardest class Ive ever taken. Discussion boards are not included in homework assignments so unless you navigate through her modules, youre completely unaware as to when things are due. She expects you in an online class to spend over 10 hours a week working on her work only let alone any other classes you might have or work.
This is by far the worst class Ive ever taken. She has unreasonably high standards (2,000 word quiz with 60 min). Her notes are useless/grammatically incorrect (Notes on Hamlet are her bragging and then talking about her personal problems). She also writes her own reviews on here. All of them follow the same script and have her writing style.
Don't take any classes with Lewis. No professor compares to her in the absolute worst way possible. If you don't write something about something that she agrees with, you will NOT get full credit. She is not helpful at all and slow as responding to emails. If students are struggling, she sends out mass passive-aggressive emails blaming them all.
Must avoid! She rants and rambles on and many of the announcements are incoherent. I took this class to improve my writing and it did not help by taking this class. She is very focused on reading the literature and writing about it... I prefer writing my own topics. The textbooks are required, but other professors have offered free resources!
Just really incompetent on how their teaching is. Overall not an effective and good teaching method. Unclear announcements and difficult prompts.
Professor Lewis is a hard grader with many essays and assignments to do every week. She has a bad format for teaching and grades super hard. Her emails are unprofessional and takes up to 5 days to respond. Please dont take her if you have a lot of classes.
The entire course is busywork. Most infuriating is the amount of writing it requires (discussions, papers, quizzes (all essay questions), 10+ page research paper) and the minimal feedback she responds with (with only 8 students). Excessive amount of emails and announcements (sometimes 7+ a day). More work than the class is worth.
Overall, doable, but slightly annoying. Nearly all assignments are due at 10pm, with no late work exception. No excuses. Passive aggressive in emails and announcements. Would never take her class again. Crams in more work towards end of semester, making it harder to be on top of everything.
In this class we read Dante's Inferno, but sometimes it felt like this class IS the inferno. Ms. Lewis was a pretty good professor. She was kind of passive aggressive sometimes though. Gives a lot of announcements but I think they're helpful. Gave lots of hints and help, and was responsive.
She is passive aggressive and always says she's “making things too easy for us”- which was not true in my humble opinion. She provided very little feedback. Instructions were not always clear. Besides essays, the course is busy work. It's passable but completely unenjoyable, especially if you have other challenging courses concurrently.
This online class required us to write two paragraphs about why we're taking it and respond to two classmates during the first week. The issue is that the instructor didn't mention that anywhere in the assignment. That's a reoccurring issue. She doesn't put the instructions in the assignments she just expects you to know it off the top of your head
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. She was one of the worst teachers I've ever had. I thought about dropping out of her class multiple times within a semester. Not to mention she SUCKS at feedback shell leave a comment under your assignment but never explains what was wrong and she even gave me a 9.8/10 because I missed 2 commas 0/10 would not take again
Please do not take this professor unless you really need to. Her assignments lack instructions. For discussion posts she doesn't tell you how much to write and how many people you have to reply to. She only mentions this in the syllabus so make sure to really read through it. The reading repsonses she have you do is annoying.
don't be fooled by good reviews, most are a decade old. prof posts 3-4 assignments a week, 2 mini essays and 1-2 discussion posts. 5+ announcements per day, some are her rambling, some are her crashing out, most are very passive aggressive. no instructions on assignments, acts shocked/mad people get them wrong. copy/paste feedback for students.
One time I had a legitimate excuse for late work and she wouldn't let it slide. Took me so long to get my grade up and THERES so much writing
This is the first professor I've met who is not accommodating. Most professors understand that life happens and you cannot give 100% of your attention to their class. This professor does not care and expects you to.
