nice lady. easy class. do the work and read the articles.
Nice lady. Red all articles. Fun class.
not clear sometimes and annoying when she repeats EVERYTHING 5 MILLION TIMES
Dr. Marks is what we call a b****. always on somebodys ass about something. Had to take the class twice and she made me sit front and center and asked me a thousand questions. Very full of her self kind of teacher.
very clear about content, not very helpful with questions, alot of work but good class
Dr Marks is awesome! I was dreading taking econ but she actually made it interesting! Something I thought was impossible! She tries to make the subject apply to life and not just concepts we will never ever use. How many other professors will spend two classes on the economics of drug legalization?
gives really good notes and easy tests. wish she taught econ 218 instead of Lehr.
Dr. Marks is great prof. Gives easy tests and easy to follow notes. She does have a habit of saying the samething over and over again but is a great teacher for micro. A lot better than Lehr
Crazy, unorganized, pompous, rich, snotty woman...avoid her like the plague!!!
nice lady. pretty laid back. dont miss class, shes anal about that. quizes every once in a while online, easy. tests are kind of difficult and long, but class should be easy C w/out trying. recommended if u can
Great teacher, must attend class and do all homework
awesome prof., easy class....just pay attention....
Her class was very easy. Come to class and do the homework and the test should be a breeze. She talks about beer a lot and relates it to in class situations so her lectures arent so bad.
GREAT professor! She is so smart and you will learn alot more in her class than in most of the other econ 217 classes. Come to class and take GOOD notes, do online quizzes, and do the homework and you should get at least a B. If she likes you and she knows you have tried hard, she is willing to give you the benefit of the doubt on your final grade.
Excellent professor! Very thorough notes and will ensure you understand what is on the exams.
Dr. Marks is an excellent professor! She is very nice, easy to understand, and if you take an earlier class, she helps to make it worth going to. If it is available, take the honors portion of the class. She took me and 6 others on weekly field trips around Farmville and was able to make it really enjoyable. She will help you as much as she can.
Dr. Marks is a really nice teacher. You have to take really good notes in her class.
a LOT of work for a 100 level class. and all projects come at the end of the semester, all due w/in a week of each other. this class is an elective for Liberal Studies majors...take another elective. this is a waste of time and she can be very irritating!
Shes a very good professor, i enjoyed her class and i would definitely take her again
She doesnt help at all its really hard class dont take her take chech
Her class can be kind of hard, and I recommend finding a study buddy, or at least looking over stuff outside of class. Tests aren't too bad if you know the material, and she's nice enough. She scares some students but she's very approachable, but she expects you to actually pay attention and do your work. If you do it'll be easy
She makes morning classes worth going to. You won't have a problem passing if you do the homework and take notes.
This was my favorite class I have taken at Longwood! Dr. Marks is a great professor and kept me interested in all of the material. I took it as an elective for Liberal Studies and I found the information learned very useful! She gives you tons of ideas for unique lessons! You must take good notes!
She makes you buy the books that her company published; more money in her pocket, I guess? Seems like we read more children's books than anything else. Then, when test day came, you were lost with the "economic lango." Way too much work for a 100 level course esp. when you're not even an ECON major/minor!
Dr. Marks is very helpful. Probably one of the best professors at Longwood. She has a lot of energy so I was not bored. Don't expect a good grade unless you show up and do the work but if you do you will learn a lot from the class and she will really help you if needed.
Professor Marks is extremely good at what she does. She goes a little fast in her lecture sometimes, but her energy really helps out the class. I feel the material is very easy, but others who may not think so can go to Prof. Marks anytime, she is always willing to help or talk about the material. Highly recommended
Dr. Marks' class is by no means the easiest class you'll take, you have to put in study time, but she presents the material very clearly. As long as you take notes, keep up with the homework (which isn't bad) and study, you should do just fine. I've taken a few classes with her and she is by far my favorite professor.
very problematic. Is open about political stance and condescending to students who aren't also on the white supremacist platform. Also will interrupt her own lectures to tell students to get off their phones, which distracts everyone. Rude in emails and assigns tedious, redundant hw at the last minute.
Great teacher! Explains everything really well in her lectures. Lots of homework, probably a quiz and homework due every other night. Her tests are what hurt me. There are three main ones and they are tough. If you want to work for your grade you will do well in her class. Definitely a great teacher but take someone else if you want to get an A.
Love Dr. Marks! Lots of busy work but it is so helpful for the finals and tests. She is so specific it is hard to say you don't understand. She will help you whenever you need it and responds within five minutes to sent emails! Her notes are very detailed and the notes are directly taken and put onto the tests. Highly recommend!
She is very thorough with what she wants, therefore you cannot say you didn't know what the homework was or how to do it. It is hard to pass if you don't attend class, but as long as you are there and take decent notes you should be fine. homework is kind of tedious but nothing too difficult.
Dr. Marks is the most stressful and difficult professor I have ever had. She is hard to approach and thinks her class is the only one you need to care about. Insane amounts of homework EVERY night, hour lectures plus note taking AFTER class, hard tests, and strict classroom rules. I regret taking this class more than anything I've ever done.
If you are going on the Thailand trip, get ready to be micromanaged. You barely get any freedom because you are told what to do and when. Lots of work on the trip as well and a ridiculous amount of lectures you must watch in a super short period of time. The trip itself is overall nice. Also be warned she uses honorlock on all her tests.
Dr. Marks is a really amazing teacher an really wants her students to understand the material. Anytime you have questions she is always will to help. Beware she does give a lot of homework and outside of class lectures, but they really help you to understand the material. I even changed my major to economics because of her. 10/10 recommend.
I took Econ 217-50 (honors). I absolutely loved taking this class with Dr. Marks. Class is very lecture-heavy but she REALLY knows what she's talking about & how to teach to understand -and- remember. She really, really wants you to understand what's going on, replies quickly, and for our final she brought in SO MUCH breakfast food, an angel.
With the Coronavirus Pandemic going around and having to take all classes online you would think your professor would work with you and be understanding that everyones under pressure not this one. My grade has dropped tremendously since we have been sent home and gave a survey and most of the class said she was giving a heavy workload and she denys
Dr. Marks is a great teacher, if you do the work, attend class, and try. She is really quick to reply to your emails and grades extremely fast. She does give a lot of homework but its not pointless busy work. Her quizzes and homework are relatively similar to her tests so if you do well on those then you should do well on the tests.
Lectures are all over the place, the volume of emails is ridiculous. When told that the course workload was unrealistic compared to other graduate courses, her recommendation was to drop other classes and then she insulted other professors in the program saying that their work must not be up to snuff. She is not open to feedback of any kind.
She is a super brilliant professor, very detailed in her presentation. Unfortunately, she will bombard one with so much information that the emails become a nuisance. The professor's impulsiveness does make one anxious. The whole "Turnitin" plagiarism check is unnecessary because if one cheats, they are shortchanging themselves.
The course material is not difficult and Dr. Marks is a great lecturer. What makes this class difficult is the tests. There are only 3 tests and each one has a subject list multiple pages in length. Expect a lot of homework and watching lectures outside of class.
Her assignments are excessive, and despite this the tests encompass the majority of your grade, meaning it is very difficult to improve a poor test grade. She only gives two tests which include an extreme amount of class concepts, making them unreasonably hard to fully study for. She is good at teaching concepts but bad at writing fair quizzes.
Worst professor by far in MBA program. Not open to feedback, the whole class was all over the place. She expected many of us to remember information and details from our undergrad studies from 15+ years ago. Way too many emails and wayyyyy too much work for a 7 week course.
Dr. Marks is very talented and established in her profession. However, she also believes she is smarter than everyone in the room and has no tolerance for feedback. She also believed "condensed " means that you have to double up work and fail to actually successfully teach. And the amount of nonstop emails is too much.
Avoid if possible
Way too many emails, announcements, quizzes, etc for a condensed 7 week course. I understood the material but was ridiculously stressed for the entire 7 weeks.
To say it nicely, avoid at all dang costs. Had a 4.0 GPA before this class and I'm basically done with my program but now my GPA is no longer a 4.0 GPA. She was accessible via email but do not question her material or how the course is setup because she will become very defensive and rude. Just avoid.
Passionate about her class. There were lectures to explain the lectures. Syllabus was extreme and she was not finished writing it when semester started. She was still adding to it while class was ongoing. Difficult to reason with and defensive. Very bizarre class....
Stressful and unfair
Class content was overall fairly easy. If youve done high school statistics itll be a breeze. The structure of the class made quizzes easy since they were broken up by subject matter. Each lecture was followed by a quiz which was open notes that you just took. Overall a stressful class but definitely manageable.
Mrs. Marks is hands down the worst professor I have every had, All you do in class is listen to her lecture really fast with not a lot of stopping. The whole time she is lecturing you are taking nothing but pages of notes. For homework you have to listen to another 1-2 hour lecture and write more pages of notes and than 1-2 quizes after that.
SHE IS HORRIBLE. 6-7 hours of work everyday and she is very rude
If you have the ability too, I would not take Dr.Marks for 217.Her class is extremely difficult and unforgiving. You spend the entire time in class taking endless notes with little to no stopping time. After class you have an additional 1-2 hour long lectures you have to watch to pass, then 1-2 quizzes which are difficult and often not like lecture
The worst and hardest professor i have had here. She is rude and will argue with you if you ask questions during class. Be ready to take 3-5 pages of notes every class. Never stops talking in class and gives 1-2 hours of online lectures your must listen to every night for 1-2 quizzes that have trick questions. Avoid taking her if at all possible
I recently finished my MBA, and Marks was my least favorite class due. Good luck!
No real world experience
This is probably the worst class I've ever taken. She had more than 3 quizzes every single week, with 3 other assignments due. This didn't follow the Longwood policy at all for online learning and just because it's an accelerated course, she tripled up the work every single week compared to any other class. Avoid at all costs.
Insane workload per week for a part-time MBA course. Even though it's accelerated, the workload is easily triple the other courses in the MBA program. Avoid Dr. Marks if possible.
Email overload. Get ready to read between the lines on quizzes. Not really a professor with sound pedagogy (course has good content, not good delivery). It's about 20 hours a week of work, IF you are a quick worker. I've gotten degrees from 2 other schools and this is the most work I've ever done in a class.
This professor is probably one of the worst I've ever had. no respect for students and expects you to work on her class work all the time. I hope Longwood puts restrictions on the amount of work she can assign.
Horrible professor, I really hope longwood finds a new econ professor because she is literally the worst professor in the entire MBA program. Way to much work compared to the other classes. I had all As before I took her class.
The worst professor I have ever had in any graduate program. Too much communication announcements and emails began to be diverted to my Junk message folder. Unprofessional and does not do well when confronted about questions on course material. Avoid this professor at all cost, if Dr. Marks is teaching sit this semester out until next session.
Avoid this professor at all cost.
Had Dr. Marks for ECON 560. Try to avoid this class if at all possible. Or at the least take it on its own if you work full time. Very time consuming. It is tough but not impossible to earn an A. Be sure to watch ALL lectures and take detailed notes. Best to print slides she provides. I was glad this was my last course. I was not impressed.
Dr. Marks is extremely knowledgeable about microeconomics, and it shows during her lectures. As long as you attend class and take good notes, you will be fine. There is a tutor for the class and she always has available office hours. There is a lot of homework outside of class (extra lectures, videos, articles, quizzes), but they're always helpful!
Dr Marks class is horrible. Be prepared after spending 50 minutes in class to spend another 50 watching online lectures and then 20mins to an hour doing the homework. Dr Marks class should be online because you teach yourself. You have to fight for a good grade in that class. Her exams are so hard and you will have at least 25 pages of notes for ea
Unfortunately, this course was a requirement for my major. Dr. Marks assigned a huge workload - much more than any other course in the MBA program. She was rude when asked for clarification and seemed annoyed to help outside of class. Everyone in the GroupMe chat had the same difficulties with clarification and workload.
Worst teacher I've ever had. Terrible when trying to reach out. 3-4 pages of notes a class. Will barely give you help if needed. 2-3 quizzes a night followed by even more lectures and notes to take outside of class. Would never take this class again. Requires students to know information that is irrelevant to the class. Sorry, but terrible class.
I had to take Econ 217 for my major and was given mixed opinions on Professor Marks. Expect a lecture every class and about 2-5 pages of notes. After that, you will be given 1-4 quizzes about those lectures. These quizzes were open notes, but it did not help me learn the material. You will most likely only have 3 tests, including the final.
I would avoid this professor if possible. I took this course for the MBA program and statistics was not a prerequisite. She taught the class as if everyone had taken stats before and was very rude when asked for help. Take detailed notes but don't expect them to help you on quizzes.
Honestly taking Professor Marks class reminded me why I do not enjoy Academia. She teaches her courses like we are stat majors and is extremely scrutinizing on everything. Not only does she make us have a webcam on and lockout browser, but she gives times discussion posts that a graded with a 3 page rubric. Would never recommend this teacher.
Even with a TON of preparation, I still struggled to get good grades (in spite of thinking I had digested and understood the content well). IMO, she makes the quiz questions unnecessarily tricky especially when you're already dealing with tricky material and the writing grading is uneven.
Unless you already have a passing knowledge of statistics/probability etc, this class will be very challenging. Plan to spend a lot of extra time familiarizing yourself with the terminology and vocabulary associated with statistics, even though it isn't used in business (unless you're a statistician). Don't plan to have a life during this course.
Dr. Marks is well-versed and proven in her field. However there are too many emails to keep track of, too many "technical writing guidelines" on how to write papers and not enough context on what is supposed to be addressed. She uses a rather ambiguous methodology for her projects which force you to overwork yourself. Good luck.
AVOID AT ALL COST
Avoid this professor!! I took the honors version of 217 and it is a ridiculous amount of quizzes every week and lots and lots of note-taking. I advise taking a different professor for economics if it can be avoided. Each of the tests covers a TON of material, assigns 30+ articles, and only asks 5-6 detailed questions for tests. Good Luck!
Sends out email after email "clarifying" the many questions we all are sending due to her poor instruction and inability to communicate. Very disappointed in Longwood University for deeming this as acceptable. This is abut the worst quality professor in all my college experience.
Had Dr. Marks for ECON-560 in the MBA program. Everything you hear about this professor is true, try to take this course with another instructor if you can. Lots of quizzes, lots of lectures. Expectations for assignments are convoluted and cause a lot of confusion. Dr. Marks sends out rather passive aggressive and arrogant messages about questions
As a Grad Student, time management is crucial. This professor will overload the student with lengthy lectures and numerous quizzes throughout the week. Also the scheduling of each week is Friday to Thursday. All other professors at LU are Monday to Sunday. Rubric for projects is never ending and is difficult to remember to do everything for her.
Her communication is awful & lecture videos are long yet say very little. She constantly gets off topic (which makes it hard to follow along). Directions for projects are long (longer than assignment is allowed to be even) & poorly written. She cannot make a point (very tangential). She would do herself & class a favor by improving on communication
Truly the worst professor Longwood has. You pay a lot of money & hope to learn in the classes you take, but with this professor you get passive aggressiveness, no help, & given assignments that are purposely designed to make you fail. Be prepared for 20+ emails a week & that you don't need help if you have a decent grade. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Quite possible the worst professor or teacher that I have ever had. There are typically 4 hours of lectures a week and at least as 4 different assignments every week. Her lectures do little to explain topics on a tangible level and frequently leave me just as confused as I was before I started. Quizzes are written to intentionally confuse students
If you want a reason why you SHOULD NOT do the Longwood MBA program, Dr. Marks is a perfect example. The quality of instruction is terrible, it's as cheap at the tuition you pay. I guess you get what you pay for. She is unclear in expectations for assignments and send passive aggressive arrogant emails to students. She is never wrong I guess?
I'm considering transferring to another college due to this professor. Excessive lectures that do not relate to quizzes/homework, constant emails/notifications being sent, unclear expectations & condescending. Spends too long on easy concepts & then breezes over difficult concepts that are needed for quizzes &papers. Avoid this professor.
Worst professor ever. LONGWOOD PLEASE DO SOMETHING. EVERY STUDENT IS STRUGGLING WITH THE WAY THIS PROFESS ACTS & TEACHES. I should not be talked to like the way she talks to students. PLEASE!! get access to her emails AND office meetings. All evidence is there.
do not take this class, this teacher will literally fail you and ruin your college career '
