The pace is fast, but very interesting!!!
Not as easy as it may seem; she covers a LOT of stuff!
this became one of my favorite classes, she was very helpful and happy!

Very hard class without taking any previous anatomy/health classes.
Easy class with an equally easy prof.
This class has got to be the most practical class in University! TAKE IT!
Keep up with your readings or you are screwed. Otherwise I've been told its easy :(
gives good notes, easy to follow, very nice woman
OUCH! Very hard class, even after taking organic chem, physics, biochem and genetics. Her tests are not very well written. A lot of work for nothing.
Good prof, kinda reminds me of my mom the way she explains things and lectures, the midterm is hard so make sure you know your stuff, very detalied so do not take lightly, final is easier then the midterm. If you can get ahold of an old midterm do so.
I didn't like her. She omitted the unit on eating disorders and replaced it with a dieting unit; I think she was sending the wrong message to the class, which is by and large 18-20 year-old women. She wasn't nice after class, either.
very hard to understand, and i have written her 3 emails asking for her help yet still no response
She gives LOTS of notes but goes way too fast when explaining them. The midterm is ridiculously hard. Too much information and a hard class.
Its an alright class if you put in the effort and study hard.... easy in the fact that there is only a midterm and final!!
clear, detailed notes
Ton of information, but she goes way too fast. You try to listen but can't because you have to write down the notes so fast. The midterm is hard and no matter how hard you study, she still includes stuff that isn't even in your notes. Makes me mad!!
Talk about a hard class..seems you have to be a biochemist major to do well. Doesn't explain things so that normal arts students like myself can understand them. Be prepared to study!!!!
meh...if I did bad it's my own fault, I never really paid attention in class, but that's not to say she isn't a good speaker. She writes notes fast, but other than that, she wasn't all that bad.
Sorry, I found this class to be one of the easiest classes I've ever taken. How could anyone think it was hard?

Interesting class... not impressed with how quickly she went in explaining the notes and how hard the exams were. Seems she likes to test knowledge way BEYOND the textbook and notes! GRRRRR!
Loved this class! So interesting and applicable. She goes very fast with the notes, but tests fair. If this subject interests you, she is great. She sometimes seems a bit snotty and condescending.
Take notes fast!!! She always goes 5 minutes over...she doesn't seem to acknowledge that you probably have other classes to rush to when she puts notes up after class should be done.
A little condescending when challenged or questioned on the material. Talks like she knows more than she does. Still, it's an easy, easy class.
I really liked this class...made me want to enter nursing! I didn't even buy a textbook and I got an 80%(good notes)!!
Good teacher, very straightforward exams, all multiple choice. This class requires minimal time and is very interesting. The only class I have ever taken that helps me in everyday life.

Hey guys, This class is cool. I'd recommend it for sure. Melanie was good and her notes were clear and organized. She did go super long a lot though ... kind of think that a MWF class would fix that.
Great class! Very interesting, and easy to pass with a good mark as long as you pay attention in class. Helpful in answering questions. Do your work, and this class will be very easy. Highly reccomended.
Alot of material, but a great class. She's very enthusiastic about the subject and is very approachable and helpful. As long as you read her notes the exams are easy.
Great Prof..alot of notes, but really good class. I definately recommend taking it.
she is all over the place, and shes the only person to teach it, not really organised, although if u go to her on an appointment, or email her, shell give u lotsa help
She lectures to the max...I don't think we ever had a class that DIDN'T go a few minutes over. Lots of notes! She knows her stuff, and the lectures are organized well, though. Class material is interesting. If you can keep up, its well worth taking!
She's too much!
She is a good instructor with lots of knoweldge about her field. She is very excited about nutrition and it shows. Her exams were fairly easy if you studied, which I think lots of people didn't do. This is one of the only classes I have ever took where I have learned things that will actually be usefull to me in everyday life. Take this class!
She is extreemly knowledgable, and is s true professional in the nutrition field. The only issues I had with her is that she is not as clear as I would have liked on what material you needed to know on the exams, as well as it would really be helpful if she would give up the overheads and start anew with powerpoint.
Very good prof. a bit anal about exam procedures but in general very fair. exams are on the picky details but nothing outside of what was covered in class.
Great prof with a good knowledge of her subject, as well as others (has a degree in microbiology as well IIRC). Notes can be a bit random and all over the place, but by and large they all fit together.
She is great. So enthusiastic and really knows her stuff. Melanie makes everything very interesting and you can tell she really cares about what she is teaching. She does expect a lot from her students, but she is always there to help you achieve her expectations. Excellent teaching method.
I am extremely angry right now. She NEVER..EVER answers emails. Tests are on the PICKY PICKY details. You need to know EVERY line out of the textbook...she will test you on it (I'm not stupid..I have 90 in the class right now and the amount you have to know is BS). Starts a new topic with ONE MINUTE left in class. I am happy it's over.2 thumbs down
Best Prof. Ive had at the University yet. She actually has a B.Ed, so she knows how to teach. Her subject material and the text are facinating. Her exams are very fair, and she always tells you what is important. Show up to all classes, do the assigned readings and quizzes and you'll do awesome. Besides it is interesting and applicable information.
This class is so applicable to life and she does a fantastic job of teaching it. The lectures flew by. Her tests are very tricky so pay attention to all the details in class and the bolded words in the textbook. Also know examples of foods.
Definitely a very interesting class. Material is fascinating, but packed in. She expects you to know a lot for each test. Make sure you read the book as well as go over lecture notes for quizzes because there are lots of questions pulled straight from the book. Questions are fair, but fairly intensive so make sure you know your stuff.
Take this course if you're interested in the subject. Its not an average boosting course if you take it solely to boost your mark. Prof not very helpful either.
she's pretty good, the exams are not that hard if you read.
YIKES!!! dont take this class if you dont have to! i learnt nothing and the exams were insane....she expects you to know the details and you end up learning nothing...just cramming for exams!!! Bad class and bad prof...not very helpful and annoyingly perky
Interesting class. The exams were difficult, and it is necessary to read the textbook for the exams.
Terrible. Simply isn't clear on what she expects. Her papers are marked in a ridiculous manner. She has little knowledge when it comes to actual science (sorry but memorizing facts out of a text is not science). Her flighty and agitated character made me nervous. Especially avoid her lifestyles class!
She definitely expects a LOT! If you have a chance to get someone's notes from the previous years definitely do so as the pace of the class is very quick. Melanie knows her stuff and expects her students to know it as well as she does. READ the text and study all the notes as she tests on the minute deetails that are easy to ignore. Good class
if you like taking lots of notes, writing hard exams, and getting low marks then this is the class for you. i was tricked into taking this class when i was told it was very interesting. dont fall for it cause you'll regret it later. i still cant get the word legumes out of my head
Very good teacher. Hard Test, be sure to study lots for her exams and take good notes. Be sure the read the text extensively to get marks in hight 80's/90's. overall quite good class.
If you have a basic understanding of physiology and biochemistry, this class will be very informative and interesting. Don't come to class expecting to sit there and socialize, as she will stop the lecture to tell you to either be quiet or leave. Four years of university and she is one of the best profs I've had.
AWFUL...
Difficult to understand her notes. Jumps around alot!
First of all, make sure you block her email address at the beginning of the year so you don't receive the dozen emails she sends weekly. Useless assignments. Absurd amount of text reading required. Very unclear in class. NO idea what she tests on. Has some mental test questions that just make your blood boil. Thumbs way down. Dont take NUTR 120
One of the best profs I've ever had!! She is way too smart and loves to share her knowledge!! She definitely made the class interesting, and if she didn't know the answer to a question, she always did her research and came to class the next day with the answer. Awesome, keep up the amazing work.
Horrible! She believes if something has not been proven scientifically it has no value, in fact, it is quackery! Narrow-minded positivist who 'prays' at the alter of biomedicine. Scary that she educates impressionable 19-year olds in this narrow perspective. Open you mind, and don't take what she says as "truth"! Her lecturing style is awful too.
Theres alot of writing from the board. So to make studying notes easiest. Bring a laptop to take notes down. Just make sure your laptop last up to 2 hours. (no plugs) its the best way to get everything she says. most of the stuff she tests on is from class notes, and the extra things she talks about.
Great prof. You *have* to go to class, to get all her notes. She is so organized that it is easy to study for her exams. Exams are straight forward.
FREAKING hard....hate here never ever take a nutrition class with her! she says everything int he text is fairgame! if you like to read alot then take this
Tough prof., and she expected a lot from her students. If you go in knowing it will be a lot of work and you are willing to do it, then you will be fine. She is very clear with what she wants you to know...everything...no lie. Know as much as you can, and do the assignments. Write down everything she says. It is not easy but its doable.
I didn't like or enjoy this class at all and i really did not like the prof
Very competent instructor. Knows her stuff inside and out. Easy class.
It is very possible to get a great mark in this class. Lectures are excellent, presented energetically and rife with anecdotes and up-to-date nutrition information. Attending all lectures and faithfully studying those notes will net students above 80 - dutifully reading the excellent textbook will ensure an even higher mark. Interesting and fair.
Intelligent, organized, passionate, and fair with high standards pretty much sums Melanie up. Don't take her classes if you are not prepared to do the work. Much personal benefit if you do, though!
Hands down one of the best profs I have ever had. She explains everything so clearly and if you read the text book often then you will surly receive a great mark! She was AWESOME!
Melanie is crazy. plain and simple. She is so smart and totally knows her stuff. Tests are tricky though. bewaare the midterm
Great class, easy enough but required some studying.
Loved this class, I don't know why she has so many bad reviews, she was one of the best profs I have encountered in first year classes. You HAVE to go to class to get the notes, and she straight up tells you that anything in the text, or that she tells you in class is fair game for tests. Tests were straightforward if you studied! overall super!
she has very unclear notes but her lectures are organized...her exams are tough as hell
Love her! Only 8:30 am class that I have ever been able to stay awake for. The lecture goes by so fast and always left me wanting to read the textbook, which you need to do, to learn more details. Lectures are easy to follow. I am a biochem major, I studied the night before both midterms and pulled off 90s. So easy!
Very helpful and understands the material herself and is able to answer questions
Great class, very interesting and helpful. Must attend every class because the notes are extremely important. Make sure you read the textbook, A LOT of random questions from it. Overall tough class, be ready to work hard and keep up.
Melanie was a wonderful proff. The material was very interesting and she made it easy for you to understand. This class is a class you must attend all the time or you will have troubles with the material. Overall, she is one of my favorite proffs at the U of S!
She is one of the best profs. Gotta attend class because she makes you take notes, but this helps you pay attention and learn. Tests are easy if you study. Overall great prof and great class
Melanie is an awesome prof! She is very helpful, and her notes were clear and concise. I pulled off a 90, but I do warn you, you must put in the work. She mostly tests from her notes, so if you know her notes inside out, you should get high 90s! Attending class is mandatory, she makes you take notes in class!! Overall, an amazing class and prof!!
Great prof! She teaches in an old school way tho(aka. handwritten notes on an overhead). Classes are podcast, but because she doesn't use powerpoint the notes are not video captured. Exams are based on her notes but she does pull random stuff from the text figures/charts/readings -- Mainly the stuff she doesn't cover in class.
Great Professor. Handwrites her notes so attending class is extremely important unless there are podcasts of her lectures. Goes over what is important for you to know from the textbook and she usually only pulls a couple of questions straight from the textbook. Most of the material ties in together near the end so the final is not too difficult!
My favourite prof throughout university. The class is easy besides the final. 95+ average if you study hard
Best prof I have had yet at this university! She is very passionate about what she teaches. Also extremely knowledgeable about the subject. She knows how to grab the attention of the class. Highly recommend you take this class!
Favorite prof so far, very enthusiastic, outgoing, easy to listen to and understand. She is very thourough and knows what she's teaching very well. She is great at answering questions and gives a good outline of the class, i love this class due to her teaching she makes it fun and interesting. Everyone clapped for her on our last class day.
She expected too much out of her students. Her tests were way too hard and not at all focused on what she focused on in class. As involved and educated as she was, it was not worth it with the amount of effort it took to get a sub-par grade.
A very nice lady and she is freakishly smart. She's very passionate about what she teaches and knows her stuff, but as someone else mentioned, this class was NOT worth taking. The amount of material she expected us to know was ridiculous, and you had to put in A LOT of effort. Very frustrating because her exams are FRIGGIN HARD.esp for a 1st yr.
Prof tries to make the material as entertaining as it can be, but it is a dry course. She has lots of energy for an early morning course, and the fact that most classes are posted online after helps review One thing of note, that is absolutely incorrect, in the March 14, 2013 lecture she called Sputnik a manned spacecraft.
You will either love or hate this class. I loved it. Melanie is passionate about Nutrition, and takes a very scientific approach. If you like Biology & Chemistry combined with Nutrition concepts, you'll enjoy the course. It is challenging because there is a lot of material, so be prepared to work hard for a good grade!
The course was interesting and engaging.. even though it was an online course. I had an 90 going in to the final.. but I found that the course did NOT prepare me for the final exam whatsoever. It almost seemed like it was an exam for a different course. Not sure how I did on that yet. But If you are going to take this course, BEWARE the final.
Made class interesting and engaging. Exams were straightforward, however a lot of material is covered, particularly in the things that are the in the textbook and not covered in class. Overall she is a great prof, it's just a lot of things to remember before the final exam.
As far as this class goes, you will either love or hate it. It is a very biologically oriented class and definitely isn't an "easy" credit. Tests require you know the very smallest of details about EVERYTHING. The class involves a lot of text reading (hours each week). I personally didn't like the class but if you enjoy bio, you might.
Melanie is one of those prof's who really wants her students to do well, so she puts a lot of effort in. There is a lot of material and a lot of required reading but the midterm and final were fairly straightforward. The class is much easier if you've done bio, chem and biochem courses before!
Melanie tends to get a bad rap, but she's actually one of the best teachers I've had. It's not an easy class with lots of required readings and very bio orientated. But she uses lots of cute diagrams and does her best to answer questions thoroughly.
I adored this class, especially with Melanie. The material is lengthy but if you study you won't have a problem! There are online quizzes and I found the textbook very necessary! She also writes in her notes and doesnt post them online but she's very easy to pay attention to, I highly recommend this prof. My favourite by far!
Good professor, very hard exams. smart lady but expects you to spend hours each night on homework. Doesn't think about all the other classes you are in. only about herself and her class. But a very very interesting course and recommend taking it to anybody
Really liked this class and the prof! Definitely would recommend! It is a very information intense course but very interesting and great!
Melanie is a phenomenal instructor! Go to class, and keep up with readings. For a science class, Nutrition 120 was fairly light and very interesting. If your interested in health and disease, I strongly recommend this course.I finished with a 97.
She is an excellent, charismatic teacher and she knows what she is talking about!
I have never had such a passionate, enthusiastic, and all around incredible professor. Her lectures were well paced and the material was interesting. Her exams were very fair! This is how a university class should be taught!
She is a great prof. Her lectures are well organized and interesting. She is very good at explaining topics and records her lectures! Exams are fair. She is passionate about what she does.
She is passionate about what she does. Her lectures are interesting and well organized. She does however care very little about an individual student. She is rarely helpful outside of class. Her tests are fair but the class material is very heavy. Overall very interesting class! after the class You will never feel good about what you eat again.
Nice lady but didn't provide any information about what is important to know for the tests. Excepts too much out of students, like its the only class you are taking. Work load is very heavy. Did have informational times for students before final.
Melanie was an amazing teacher with a passion for nutrition. This was the most interesting class I have ever taken that is so applicable in every day life. I found the tests very difficult but her lectures were well-organized and she made the concepts very clear.
Melanie is awesome!
She's truly passionate about nutrition and health, and somehow manages to make even the most boring topics seem interesting! She's always willing to go the extra mile to help explain a concept, and answers emails promptly and politely! It's a long class, but with her up-beat attitude, they time flies by! Definitely my favorite professor!
By far the hardest class I have ever taken. Studied every inch of the assigned chapters and readings and still struggled. Do NOT take unless you have too.
Melanie lays out the class material in a simple manner, that is easy to understand. Nutrition 120 is a practical course that can easily be applied to one's day to day life. Those that complain about the difficulty of this course are, most probably, first years; it's not high school, you do have to study.
Nice lady. Well structure lectures and interesting but definitely you have to go to class and read everything in textbook in order to do well in the test.
Very knowledgeable and engaging
energetic prof, would like to explain everything if questioned, interesting lectures,
She's great at clarifying difficult subject matter. She has an odd sense of humor, but managed to make an 8:30am class easy to focus in!
Melanie was easily one of the best profs I've had. She's super passionate and loves answering questions in class. The work load is very heavy, with weekly quizzes and tons of material. It's best not to miss a lecture, although she does offer lecture capture. Unfortunately she doesn't post any slides, notes or other information online.
Best class!
Melanie is one of the best profs I've ever had. She's makes an 830 class enjoyable. The weekly online quizzes are easy if you read the textbook carefully. Tons of material throughout the term which sometimes makes it hard to keep up but definitely well worth it. Her exams are relatively easy, its mostly material covered in the lectures. Best class!
Very passionate about what she is teaching, which makes the lectures very interesting. The questions for the online quiz's come right out of the textbook. Most of the exam material is covered in class, but there is some detail memorization (from textbook) required. Overall a great class! Course content has real-life applications, which is a plus!
You have to keep up, you might think its easy until you see her tests. She is a very good professor, keeps you interested and provides lots of extra information to be able to really apply what you are learning to your life. She is really good at answering any questions and provides review sessions before each test.
Professor Rozwadowski is a kind professor who is passionate about her work. If you would like to take this class, be prepared to do a lot of reading and studying because course material is heavy and she assigns a lot of materials. She also makes hard concepts easy to understand, so don't miss class!
Loved her class.. She did her best to make dry topics interesting. A lot of assigned readings that are necessary to do well in the course. However, er passion for the subject is contagious. One of my favourite courses because of its application to my everyday life.
One of the best profs I've ever had as far as teaching ability. I have seen a lot of complaints about test difficulty, the tests are in no way difficult if you complete the assigned readings they are MC on key course terms and concepts. This class piqued my interest in health and the human body and probably changed my eating habits forever.
Melanie was a fantastic prof. She covered material clearly and well and made sure to note when you should cover it further by reading the text. I would certainly suggest reading the text as many questions from the exams aren't covered in her lecture material.
Hated this class. It was hard and even though her teaching style is great, the material is boring. The class is frustrating as you have like 600pgs to read and she expects you to know the smallest detail. Definitely don't take this class if you don't have to
I really disliked this class... Melanie has good lecture skills but the content to me was very very boring.... the amount of reading you have to do is ridiculous.. there are 2 midterms wrth 25% each.. (horrible I know).. I also find her exams extremely hard as you have to know nitty gritty detail.. would not take this course again ever
Loved this class! The material was interesting and Melanie is a great lecturer. One thing I loved was that she was so organized (she gave a calendar of what we are doing, what you need to read, etc on the 1st day and she stuck to it). She was a bit stuck up & sometimes treats students like they're stupid when they ask ques. Easy class overall & fun!
Melanie is a great prof with a clear enthusiasm for her subject, but the course is not an "easy A" and she makes that clear from the start. It may seem easy for the first few weeks, but it felt there was more content than a biology class. Discussion groups were an easy way to boost your mark tho (and you'll need it). She posts recorded lectures.
Professor Rozwadowski is clearly very passionate about nutrition, but that passion typically comes off in conceit. Other than that, she is able to make the course material interesting, and her lectures aren't typically dry. She posts all her lectures via lecture capture, and holds Q&A sessions pre and post midterms (2 - 25% each).
Melanie is really nice prof! She tries her best to make an 8:30 class not boring. Her midterms come from the notes usually, so better pay attention to what she's saying. There's lecture capture as well.
Overall great professor. Her lectures are interesting and the material is easy to understand. As long as you study it is easy to get an 80+ in the class
Melanie was an amazing professor! The material was very hard and I didn't have time to put as much effort needed to do good in this class. You really need to work hard if you want a good grade. I didnt go to discussion groups but I would recommend it to help you have a higher grade if you have the time to go to them
Take this class if you have an interest in Nutrition topics, otherwise the material will seem very heavy. I barely used the textbook, but is still worth the buy due to the interesting content. I looked forward to this class, and it is by far my best mark. Melanie is an awesome prof that doesn't make things harder than it needs to be.
Melanie is passionate about nutrition and explains concepts and expectations clearly. Her exams are fair, albeit content heavy for a first year class. She can be insensitive/uncompassionate in instances of unforeseen circumstances (e.g. family emergencies, Huskies athletics) so missing class or re-scheduling exams is a battle.
Melanie is an excellent professor. She is clearly passionate about the study of nutrition. She is very organized and explains concepts thoroughly. She always makes the time to email you back in case you have any questions. I believe that everyone should take this course.
Lectures were sometimes a little irrelevant to the tested material. Very good lecturer though and definitely knows her stuff. Tests were quite hard but use WileyPlus if it's an option as it really helped me.
She kept lectures interesting and was great at explaining stuff. Also very good at answering questions and responding to e-mails. Tests were very fair, testing on both lecture material and the textbook. Also made lectures available on blackboard. Honestly just a great professor!
She was an amazing prof who was really interested in what she was teaching and made it interesting for her students! There are weekly quizzes but most of her examable material is based on lectures. Would definitely take another class of hers!
She was very organized, but she rushed through the content at the end of the term. We did not finish what we were to know for the final, and she told us to read it all for ourselves. She only answered half the emails I sent her regarding questions I had. She made it seem as though she is crazy busy, and could never squeeze us into her schedule.
This was my best class and best prof this year. If you attend classes and study, you will pass. Her explanations are awesome and you almost don't need to study the text in detail if you attend class. The some of material can be tough but that's just the subject area. Great prof, would highly recommend her. Respected, caring and knows her stuff.
She's accessible outside of class. Listen to her and pay attention!
This lady looooves nutrition. But she knows what she's talking about
Many people do like her and her teaching style, but I was not one of them. She is quite rude when it comes to extra help and acts like her class is the only class that you are taking. she expects way to much for midterms. Her final was atleast okay and the class is lecture captured witch was nice that you didnt have to see her face at 8:30 every am
She is a great Prof and she explains concepts very well. Make the textbook your friend along with Wiley plus the online code you get when you buy the textbook. The website has quizzes once you complete chapters and they are recommended and will help with your grades!! good luck
Very passionate professor who cares a lot about what she is teaching. Has included information not found in the textbook nor mentioned properly during lecture on exams. Tricky questions on exams. Online work very easy; you actually learn from it and it's not useless
her teaching style is awesome and she is really passionate about what she teaches so it makes the content more interesting. although the content is interesting it is tough stuff and you will have to review on your own if you want a good mark
Great prof! Really emphasizes what you need to know for the midterms/final in class. Do the group discussions if you can as they are an easy 10%. If you take good notes in class then you won't need to read the textbook at all. However, you do need to buy it to do the quizzes. Melanie is very passionate and knowledgeable about all things nutrition!
Melanie is a lady that knows and loves what she talks about. She is my favorite teacher so far in my university history. Loved her classes, her lectures and her notes. She is pasionate and carring and loves her dogs. I would take another of her classes in a heartbeat!
Overall an amazing prof. Highly recommend her if you have the opportunity to take her classes! She does do lecture capture, but much more entertaining when you attend lecture. A lot of reading involved, but it's worth it.
Notes can be confusing from time to time. Notes best if written on paper- many diagrams to draw.
she's not a bad teacher, just pay attention in class and honestly you should be fine
Be prepared with a notebook for class, and not a laptop, because it's near impossible to follow along that way, she does a lot of drawings and such on the board. She's a good person, and easy to reach. I had a personal question about Nutrition and we talked in her office for about an hour, and was quite insightful.
Be prepared to draw, as it is a necessary part of the course. Lecture captures are a blessing for this course.
Favorite prof and class by far. Melanie is so interesting and loooves nutrition. So many chances to boost your mark in this class with basically 20% worth of Extra credit type stuff. Material is interesting but heavy so studying is necessary but it is so interesting. Going to class is in my opinion mandatory to pass, plus she is amazing!
Good prof, very good at explaining difficult concepts. She loves nutrition and it shows in her lectures. Attendance isn't mandaotory because she posts videos of all her lectures online. Overall, if you study and do the assignments you'll do good in this class.
She is the best professor I have come across! Her lectures are great and enticing because she is so passionate about nutrition. She also always accepts questions and is willing to reexplain things when needed. Because of Melanie, I have now want to go into nutrition!
Melanie loves teaching, and has great engaging notes. Read the text book to fill in the blanks from lecture notes. Textbook is basically another prof, learn from both. Quizzes are online, and easy. If you email her with a problem she'll reply asap. Quick teaching style. Pauses for questions so use that to your advantage. Would take again.
Melanie is very a very nice women and she knows everything there is to know about nutrition. Her lectures had almost nothing to do with the midterm/final and they're lecture captured so no need to show up. DO THE DISCUSSION GROUP for easy marks and the quizzes are all online. Hard class if you don't understand something
So as iI sit here in class (with only 2 left to go), i've realized the best thing i could have done was: bring loose leaf paper and a good pen and write my notes out. Melanie writes all of her notes out in front of us, so theres no way you could fall behind. She draws graphs and jumps around, so hand writing notes is beneficial. Her exams are hard
Melaine was a great instructor, she is very passionate about nutrition and makes the course enjoyable and interesting.
Professor Rozwadowski is so passionate about Nutrition, which makes it easy to get excited about the content. She is very clear with what she expects of her students. I took NUTR120 as an elective in my 4th year and personally I think it's pretty heavy for a first year class, but definitely do-able.
I never went to class (sorry Melanie!) BUT I watched all her lectures online. If you pay attention and learn from her lectures/take notes you will do well in the class. 95%-98% of exam material is covered in the lectures. She actually teaches the material, does not read slides! Passionate and makes you love learning! 10/10 !
Melanie is extremely knowledgeable in the subject of nutrition. A bit easily irritable, but it's understandable in a 500 student class. Definitely a tough class, not an easy elective. You have to work hard for a good mark. The quizzes are a mark booster, as well as the optional discussion groups are an easy 10% HIGHLY recommend opting into those.
Melanie is super passionate about nutrition, and makes her class very interesting and easy to apply to your own life! The textbook is needed, reading it definitely helps you understand everything a bit better. The discussion groups are DEFINITELY recommended, easy 10%. Her exams can be difficult, especially the final.
She is great how there is 20% possibility for extra credit. DO THE DISCUSSION GROUPS! she is ruthless with the less lecture learning and needing to read the whole assigned readings for the test! never had a 100 level class take so much out of class time with the textbook! she will test non covered material! seems very rude and stuck up.
Melanie is a great prof! i loved taking nutrition with her, although her tests and lectures are heavy and the textbook is mandatory! if you put some work in it you can get a good grade.. make sure to do the 10% discussion groups it helps so much since the tests are heavy!
First of all, Melanie posts video recordings of all her lectures on BB, so attendance is not mandatory & you can do your notes on your own time. She is VERY knowledgeable & has a passion for nutrition that shows in the amount of detail she provides in lectures. This class isn't "easy" per se, it's very science-based, but you can get an A for sure!
She's the best prof I've ever had: enthusiastic, passionate, and knowledgeable! I was already somewhat interested in nutrition but her class turned my interest into a passion. It was by far the best class I've taken and very applicable to life, every class I would get my mind blown. I would HIGHLY recommend this course to anyone.
Melanie is an absolutely amazing professor! I came into the class not knowing what to expect since nutrition has never been a science studied in high school. But after taking this class, I can guarantee that you will love it. Her lectures are so captivating and interesting, and she gives room for questions in class. There is lecture capture too!
Lots of quizzes and assignments. The quizzes were helpful, but the assignments were hard to follow and figure out. Prof had very strict rules and didn't back down on anything and at times seemed very condescending towards the students.
Melanie was my favorite prof that I encountered at the U of S. She does not just read off the slides and makes notes that students can follow. She uses lecture capture which is very useful. She can seem snarky towards the students and does expect that students are quiet and not on their phones. Held really helpful midterm review sessions as well.
Melanie was a really good professor, she was well prepared and really knows her stuff. However at times she seemed to be kind of ignorant when student asked questions and so on. I found her tests to be extremely difficult, you need to work extremely hard in this class if you want a good mark.
Man. Prof Rozwadowski is a tough one. BUT... she delivers the material so well (which is a very broad science) and wants her students to do well. very meticulous, too. although the class was no doubt very tough, i thoroughly enjoyed it and i did learn so much from her. I read the text through and through, studied hard, and got an A. you should too
Melanie is passionate and knowledgeable about nutrition. I personally believe that her nutrition lectures are changing the lives of some of her students each year. This class will change your life. Exams are 100% multiple choice, there are easy weekly online quizzes that boost your grade. Also there is an option for extra credit.
One of the best profs I had in my 1.5 years so far. Her lectures are really good and the class itself is pretty interesting. I pretty much find every single class ever insanely boring but this one is okay. The material is really hard though, and it seems that stuff we never talked about appears on exams. But still a good class and good prof.
I really loved Nutr120 and I think the main reason was because of this amazing professor, she is so passionate about the material she teaches and presents information in a logical and clear way. I recommend doing the discussion groups for 10% and taking the time to read the textbook. Memorize everything in the notes and what she says.
I recommend doing the discussion group as a grade booster; I did not. Overall, the tests can be tricky for a first-year class and there is A LOT of information to remember. Lectures are recorded so it is not mandatory to go to class, but I recommend you do in case you need clarification. Melanie knows her stuff!!!
Melanie is a fabulous professor who sparks interest in her students. Quite evident that she is passionate about her field, and her teaching reflects this. For a 1st year course, the material can be tricky to understand, so stay on top of text readings + lecture materials. Tests are fair, but challenging (examine the finer details).
Too much material to cover, doesnt put into consideration students are taking other classes as well, interesting class and prof though
MELANIE MADE 8:30 CLASSES BEARABLE !! The class was heavy but she made it very interesting. Did not just read off the slides and evident that she is very intelligent and is passionate about teaching! I would take her again 10/10
Her tests were very hard. Although you can tell shes passionate about what she is teaching so it makes it a bit better.
She's great. She is very professional and I found her to respond to emails fairly quick, especially given how many students are in her class. I took this course online and watched all of the lectures online. Her teaching style makes it easy for the student to take notes; important in her class. There's quite a bit of reading and work. Recommend tho
Melanie offers many opportunities to do better in class. Her class was very hard and heavy but doable. Join DG if you want to increase your marks. I learned a lot of useful information. She's very passionate about what she teaches. Even though lectures are recorded, still attend. Her tests are very, very hard and focuses on application situations.
Great prof, does an awesome job teaching through online lectures. Her lecture videos are interesting to watch and are engaging and make you want to learn. Very impressed.
This is one of the most informative and interesting classes I have ever taken. I can apply the information I have learned to my life every single day. She moves the class at a good pace and the work load is not overly heavy. As long as you watch her lectures and read the assigned readings you will have no issues in this class.
She has been very understanding for classes since we have been moved to online.
she is okay. i took this class online so in terms of online, she wasn't the best. i think the part that was annoying is that this lady is so afraid of copyright theres no slides to download just videos of her lecturing. its annoying because if you forget something you cant just pull up the slides and look, you have to go through videos
Melanie's class the best online class I had this semester. Although she doesn't post the slides, taking good notes is not difficult as her lectures are informative and most diagrams that she uses are found in the textbook. Quizzes were text based and fairly easy (best 8/11). The 4 midterms were a grind but not difficult. Would recommend.
Melanie is her own type of prof. Somedays it feels like she is the best prof you've ever had, and other days she doesn't make any sense. She told us that the exams were open book, but few days before final she posted a document stating that the final is CLOSED book. She also told us that AFTER the course reviews were due... kinda sneaky, eh?
There is lots of material to learn for this class, but Melanie does an excellent job of staying on track. Standards are high, but the homework is useful. If you keep up with the hw, the exams will be relevant. I skimmed most of the textbook readings, only do them if you don't understand something.
The class isn't too bad but the professor- she's condescending and rude on most, if not all her emails. I'm doing well in class but her midterms are overkill. As a first-year, it was hard going through the material not being bored. Do the work, ignore the emails, midterms are a goner.
Melanie knows her stuff but isnt always the most personable. The class has lots of relevant information but the course is very heavy. If you are taking it for an elective, I would recommend waiting until you have a lighter semester. Pay attention and take good notes during lectures, do the readings and youll be good.
Ensure you watch the lectures. Professor Rozwadowski gives very detailed lectures but a lot of them were about drawing internal structures/organs and that's very hard to do online. She also sent out an email saying that recording more lectures is a "waste of her time" which indicated that she did not care that much about this class.
Melanie put in the most effort of all my professors to make sure her online class was as close to in-person as possible. Her work ethic is unparalleled. She is organized and has a tough exterior, but is very fair and accommodating if unforeseen circumstances arise. Work half as hard as her and you'll get an A.
Avoid taking a nutrition class with this professor. Her classes are very well structured however her 4 midterms and final are incredibly difficult for a first year class and often do not correspond with her lectures. The text book is only used for the Wiley plus component of the course.
I had her 2 yrs ago. But I came here to say that I rly loved her as a prof. The content was extremely well-explained. She took complex concepts & broke them down so they were easier to understand. If things are the same, you HAVE to go to class. If she teaches it, it's prob on the test. If there's a textbook, she will make 2-3 questions from there!
She was awesome. Probably the best and most well designed course I have ever taken. She explains things very well. Have never enjoyed a prof more. She genuinely cares for students and there are plenty of opportunities to improve your grade. Exams and Quizzes are very fair, just pay attention to the details during her lectures. Very reasonable prof
She's a very nice lady who genuinely cares about her students, and overall I liked this class. I did find that there's quite a bit of reading, so to do well in this class, you need to stay on schedule. The only thing I didn't really like was how there were quizzes every week and multiple midterms, but that's just my preference.
Melanie is passionate and highly educated about nutrition. There are weekly quizzes, 3 midterms, and a final. All of equal difficulty and completely multiple choice. She throws in a lot of trick questions and most correct questions, beware! If you put in the work, you will receive a good grade. Definitely not your easiest option for an elective.
I loved Melanie! Super passionate & good at explaining complex topics. You need to spend $70 to get an account to write quizzes which sucks, but I barely touched my textbook (I prob should have though). If discussion groups are optional, JOIN THEM. easiest 10% of my grade ever.
Would never take this prof again, class average is 60% and that "normal" for her intro to nutrition. Mandatory textbook with quizzes that have nothing to do with her tests. Also has tons of lectures that do not have anything to do with her midterms for final as she rambles/cant read her writing.
Her writing is hard to read and she makes you read the textbooks, pretty much half of the textbook worth. Her midterm was worth 50% or 40 if you did a discussion group and her final was worth 50%, you really need to know your stuff to pass. Three midterms and she takes the mark of two of them she said practice exams are illegal so no practice exams
Sign up for the discussion groups, they are easy and don't require a lot of time. Very heavy course - considering it is a 1st year course. Midterms and final are written by prof and completely different from weekly quizzes. Previous exams are "illegal" so nothing to practice on. If you don't know the answer on a test, it's probably legumes.
A really good professor, and genuinely cares about students doing well, just a lot of content to get through. JOIN THE DISCUSSION GROUPS, the easiest 10% I've ever received. Keep up with readings or you will fall behind very quickly.
Melanie Rozwadowski is a very smart individual. The only problem I had with the class is she never "had time" to answer question. The class I took was NUTR 120 (Basic Nutrition) and in my opinion it was not a basic nutrition class at all it was more research based information that was taught. Test were solely based on notes from class and very hard
Makes the lectures very interesting and answers all the questions students would ask. Really made you work hard in this class. Content heavy and lots of reading. Lots of quizzes (10), midterms (3), and a very long final. After completing this course you learn a lot of useful and applicable information about overall health, diet, and nutrition.
Lectures were very long, I didn't go. Weekly quizzes based 100% on the textbook, 1-3 chapters at a time. You HAVE to buy a brand new textbook to get a 1 time use code for the quizzes. Wasn't a huge fan of the midterm and final. Kind of hard for a first year class... I've taken 3rd year classes easier than this, Just content heavy and weird exams.
lots to learn in a short amount of time, but she is clear what she wants you to learn and gives you plenty of resources.
Her midterm was difficult (class average of 58%) However, if you understand the concepts in her lectures, you'll do just fine. I don't have time to complete all the textbook readings each week. The midterm was based on her lectures. Listening to her recorded lectures at a slow pace is what helped me excel on the midterm. She is engaging and funny.
Get ready to get analytical and to apply knowledge of the learnings to the mid-terms and exams. The class average is 60% so she keeps changing her question style a bit to keep the student class average within that range. She does not explain too well and puts a lot of pressure on her students.
Melanie is a good person, she's nice & sweet. She gives you lots of resources to make sure you know what you're doing. But in all honesty, I got maybe 10% of the textbook readings done, it's just way too much. She posts her lecture recordings on Canvas so it was nice to have those. Probably my hardest 1st-year class.
Taking this course was an all-time low in my life. Dr. Rozwadowksi assigned an entire textbook to read and had information-packed lectures and she still managed to make half the tests about stuff I swear I have never heard before. I also am pretty sure this woman loves legumes more than life itself so answer that. She is Satan in my storyline.
Melanie is an amazing professor. A lot of the poor ratings from Nutrition 120 students are from first years who don't appreciate that she does not hand out marks but rather encourages learning unlike any other prof I have had. Her lectures are inspiring and she has taught me more in a semester than any other university course I have taken.
One of the best professors I've had. Loved NUTR 120, and loved NUTR 322 even more. Created an environment where it was easy to learn and retain content. There are lots of readings and time, but Melanie points you to the key points. Tests were fair, and so much feedback is given to help improve for the next one. Put in the work and it will pay off!
Melanie is simply an OK teacher. She's clearly knowledgeable but sometimes condescending towards students. Her tests are not necessarily unfair but are definitely difficult. The course is very content-heavy - there are a LOT of readings that I never was able to catch up on. You need to work hard to succeed in NUTR 120 but it's not impossible.
Melanie goes above and beyond to explain material in her lectures. I appreciate that she showed emotion when teaching something she was passionate about. She does not hand out grades; you must study the material outside of class to understand. This class has taught me how to study and work for my grades properly. Her class has taught me so much.
Definitely would recommend this class. The professor was so caring towards her students. You get to know so much from this course.
Horribly insensitive!!! Puts questions on exams that were never part of content taught Talks nonstop! Not recommended at all
Horrible professor. If you can find anyone else to take thus class from I would strongly recommend it
Horrible professor. Puts questions on exams that have not been taught. If you can find anyone else to take this course from I suggest doing that Talks in circles
"Basic Nutrition"? Id say its far from it. Lectures are very heavy, lots of out of class readings, mistakes on midterms with questions unrelated to the material taught or in the textbook. She has no interest in her students actually succeeding. 2 midterms(30% each) and the final(40%). Dont expect to boost your grade with assignments, there are none
Tests were weighed very heavy and she had many errors on the tests. Would never take this class again
Talks so much she forgets what she did the previous class. I do not recommend this instructor to anyone
This professor is horrible!!! She puts people down and truly treats students as they are below her. Never responds to emails Talks nonstop!!! Disgusting that the u of s allows this kind of person
Melanie is an amazing prof! Makes getting up early for an 8:30 am lecture way easier when the prof is actually passionate and super educated about their material, and it is very clear how compassionate she is towards her students. Very welcoming overall! Will definitely be taking Melanie's classes again!
Professor Rozwadowski is amazing and I appreciated that she always took the time to answer ALL of my questions, she teaches in a way that is interactive and informative and is very funny. I have learned many things that will benefit me both academically and personally, thank you Professor Rozwadowski for being so amazing at what you do.
She was a good professor, however with this being an intro, as well as other intro classes compared to upper level alot are very hard and expect you to learn everything. The midterms however are hard and alot to memorize, all the vitamins for midterm two. Highly recommend the discussion groups, you may seem like you don't have time, but it helps
She is a very good prof and really gives you all the resources you need if you want to do really well. It isn't a super easy class and she really tests on everything but if you go to lectures and study an average amount you will do fine. She really knows her stuff and explains concepts well. I also appreciated that she recorded all her lectures.
i would say she was great at explaining the topics. However, the course is way too heavy for a first year "basic" nutrition class. there are no assignments to help your grade. the required textbook readings are very long. The final exam was really bad, the questions were extremely vague and did not relate to what she asked us to memorize/study.
Don't take if you don't need to. Hearing her talk is agitating. She seems very judgemental and is not focused enough on what she tests you on.
NOT an intro class. Tested on things that were not talked about. Refuses to let students view their exams. First midterm was 59% this says a lot about not only her teaching but also the types of exams she conducts. when I emailed her about viewing my grade because I thought I did better, she responded with "a lot of people thought they did good"
Nutrition 120 is not an easy class. The midterm questions are very hard. She ask very specific questions that you hardly even learned in class. To pass this class you can't count on the lectures, you have to read and understand the textbook everyday to do good. Good luck!
Very hard class. Do not take if not mandatory. Melanie is very judgemental and vague with her testable topics. Midterms are very hard and have quite a few topics that she did not cover well enough in her lectures. I also find her quite judgemental and not empathetic at all. Horrible class
Melanie is an amazing prof. If you work hard and study in her class, you will do well. This class really teaches you how to study and you can tell she is passionate about what she teaches. She goes through notes slowly and makes sure people understand what she said before moving on. This class isn't a grade booster, however it's super interesting!
I strongly encourage you not to take this class if you are not in the College of Nutrition. Melanie caters the class to the nutrition students (which makes sense) but it is tough to succeed if you don't have supplemental nutritional knowledge from other classes. She took a bunch of marks off my test for incorrect spelling and expects lots of detail
Melanie challenges students to apply their learning and go beyond what is mentioned in lectures. I took away so much information from this class regarding the content and how to study and write exams. The class might seem intimidating at first, but it was a great class, would take again. Get the textbook! It flows very nicely alongside lectures.
This class was so lecture heavy and midterms/exam were tough. Textbook is required and theres lots of required readings but I didnt get the textbook and managed to do well on the midterms. There'll be question in exams that'll catch you off guard because she barely talks about them in the lectures which is annoying. Too heavy for a introductory.
Professor Rozwadowski was a good professor. She is very knowledgeable. This is very heavy and includes a lot of information but it is all interesting. Her lectures are recorded which is great for reviewing them. The midterms and test are tough so make sure you study well! She is nice.
Average class and too much disorganization about exams. I don't understand the point of having extra credit assignments but only limited to 80% of the class. Made it unnecessarily hard for a 100 level course and average level teaching. She ran through the last set of modules before finals.
Do not take this class as an elective! The class material is very heavy. This class will bring down your average very badly. Professor provides very hard questions on midterms/finals.
A heavy class for first years. Not recommended.
Honestly, just really irritating to listen to, especially online lectures, prof drinks water when she has a mic attached and it is nasty, says schedule weird, just talks odd in general which makes it difficult to follow. She also makes many mistakes on her answer keys to quizzes and notes. Textbook teaches you better.
This class was disappointing in my opinion. Feels like a 300-level course. I am a first-year student and this class is a requirement for my program I would've done anything if I was able to avoid this the way she writes her notes on the slides instead of typing is annoying and it's so hard for me to read her handwriting because she writes so messy.
Professor Rozwadowski is extremely knowledgeable and brilliant in the field of nutrition, however, she makes her exams extremely difficult for an intro first year class. I have taken this class twice and each time midterm averages have been ~50%. Be warned, if you are trying to get into nursing be prepared to claim a deficiency in this class.
prof is very knowledgeable and knows what she is doing. She knows how to teach a class and keep the class engaged. However the catch is her exams are difficult, and only graded by a few things. Would recommend this class if you have a passion for nutrition, otherwise maybe not.
I honestly was surprised how much I enjoyed this class due to the reviews that were left. Her exams definitely test your knowledge but if you study well, they are fine. She says the textbook is required, but tests really only focused on lecture material. Would not recommend as a elective though
I asked her for help, and she referred me to the textbook. For someone who supposedly has so much experience, she should be able to explain HER OWN answer key. Content is insanely heavy for a first year class, avoid at all costs! I would suggest you take this class with lower content classes like math, otherwise be prepared to sacrifice your grades.
Dr. R was pretty good at explaining things in this class, when she liked talking about what she was explaining. I found that all the stuff that was rushed through was the only things on the exam. Half the information needed to know was from the textbook and not explained at all. Tests were ridiculously hard. She was not helpful with questions, etc.
Professor Rozwadowski is knowledgeable, but the course content is very heavy for a first-year class. Exams are challenging, with unexpected questions. While lectures are helpful, the textbook is essential. Unstuckstudy AI proved a useful study tool alongside the material.
- Lectures, either going in person or viewing online, are essential. Dr. Rozwadowski elaborates on the textbook content and offers insights and additional information to the textbook. Listen to the lecture instead of copying the slides; quick, efficient note-taking is essential. Read the textbook and come prepared. First years: take this in year 2.
Amazing professor. Midterms are straight to point. Not too much memorization as long as you're keeping up with content. Lectures are recorded just in case class is missed. Gives good explanations to help students understand the course material.
If you're taking this class for easy credit, don't. This was the toughest class I've ever taken. On the first day, she says the average grade is a 67%. But after finishing it, I can confidently say that's not true. The midterm and final are 50% material not covered in class. If you can make it to the discussion group, DO IT Trust me, it's worth it.
This was the hardest class I took this semester, and I was in plenty of STEM classes. If you're a first-year student, do not take this class until you know how to study and take quick notes. She did not clarify what would be on the tests, so you are expected to know everything. There is lots of content and memorization. Class sizes are 450+.
Everyone is being so dramatic about the course and about melanie. The course was probably one of my easier courses in STEM and melanie always covered what would be on the exams. I would suggest going to class as you'd just have to watch her lectures to get all the notes down anyways. DO THE DISCUSSION GROUPS!
Very knowledgeable and does post her lectures on canvas. Downside of her is if one asks a question she usually doesn't properly answer it. Her exams are set up to be difficult and not give away answers but they can trick you easily. She likes to test on small things that one would think didn't matter, but in reality she tests on it.
Very kind prof she comes off as scary to some but that's because she's taught this course for years and wants everyone to do well. Tou must read the textbook otherwise you will fail. The final was much easier than the midterms. I feared I was going to fail the class as it is content heavy and lots of numbers and names to memorize but I got through!
Very nice professor with informative lectures. It is very possible to get an A in this class if you show up and read the textbook!
The truth is she is a great professor. She wants students to succeed and how she approaches that is through tough work and effort. Melania prepares you for the reality as not every class is a easy credit. She encourages to do your own research on the topic as well as study continuously throughout the term. Take her classes.
bruh the way ppl were dogging on her and talking about this class like it was rocket science is crazy. this course aint even allat. never read the textbooks + just took notes on the recordings and scored a 90 on the midterm.
Do not take class with her unless mandatory, tests on ridiculously small details you wouldn't even think about answering. Doesn't feel like an intro class at all. Look at course objectives, Final weighted 70% material for the last 3 or so modules on vitamins and minerals. Went into the final with a 60% came out with a 56%, retaking again sadly
One of the most awful classes I've ever taken, her class structure was so bad with no proper summaries no proper explanation. She tried to cram way too many things with no explanation on what we should actually be learning for the exam. Therefore exams would be absolute curveballs with stuff that made no sense
It was a lot of memorizing, if you took the discussion group it was a saving grace fr it literally boosted my mark so good. I have anxiety and hate talking but they were nice. Her tests did include tiny details that were like come on how am I supposed to know. But, I did like her as a person, studied really hard for second midterm and did good:)
Her midterms and finals were difficult and not as the outline she would give us, she is very boring at 8:30 in the morning
If it's mandatory, don't take her 8:30 class
