She is the best english teacher I have ever had. At first I thought she was tough, but at the end we became very close and I learned so much about thinking and writing that it is insane! She is probably the strongest woman you will ever meet.
She is such a humble and sweet person! One of the best teachers I have ever had. She assigned extremely helpful essays that helped me get an A in English 1A after taking her class.
HORRIBLE TEACHER! Compares students to her 8 year old daughter! ASSIGNMENTS that are given are very vague! Lectures are at a elementary level. She should teach middle school English instead. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. JUST HORRIBLE!
don't take her unless you like bias teachers I had her for Lit horrible very bias on who gets the grade and who doesn't.
Very nice helpful teacher. Inspires and motivates. Highly recommended amungst takeing other professors.
I love Sanwo she is a great teacher I leaned so much in her class!! she makes you work for your grade but she does that to help you learn. I was out of school for 3 weeks due to car accident and she was very understanding and still passed me.
Very Good Teacher. Of course you will have to follow directions and stick to the esay rubric, however she is very helpful through her lectures and office hours. The class will go by smooth if you take college serious as you should. I highly recommend Her.
She is a bad teacher! Please try your hardest to not get her. She is all over the place and does not explain things easily. Unclear. Defiantly a bad experience in starting out college.
She teaches like a elementary school teacher. Encourages students even when they respond with an ignorant response. Does not enjoy students who are more intelligent. really annoying and treats students like little kids. DO NOT TAKE. can be nice but the class time is miserable.
Sanwo is really nice. She's very clear and concise. She's also a fairly easy instructor. I would recommend her to anyone.
The best English teacher anyone can ask for. Would recommend her to anyone. She makes you work for your grade, but she is easy to get along with. She is understanding if anything were to happen, and she is also willing help whoever asks. She has a passion for teaching that it is hard not to also get into. Do your work, earn your grade.
Sanwo is cool. She can begin treating students like kids, but keep an open mind and you'll find humor in it. Lots of reading, about 400+ pages of it in small print. Sometimes rubric and her directions do not match up so clarity must be made. Show up to class prepared or miss out on a lot of points. Very helpful, will help you with anything if asked
She's very enthusiastic about teaching and is clear what what she's trying to convey. There are about six essays total and a final research paper, which we petty much do in class. She's a fair grader and I would love to take her class again!
ENG 125 -good teacher, but treats the class like high school kids; you have to ask to use the restroom. Other than that she's a good instructor with a decent amount of hw. In my opinion though, you're better off taking the placement test than wasting your time with 125 and 126 though. Took in 2010
Make sure to do all your wotk otherwise you will fail her class. Also, don't miss her class to much because she covers a lot during her class time. Another important thing that I want to mesion is that essays are very important to her. So don't make a lot of mistakes or she will deduct you a lot of points. Overall, she is a very good teacher.
Mrs. Sanwo is such a good teacher. She goes over the material clearly in class. Just a fair warning, remember to do all the homework and attend all class sessions. Also, be on time! She is very strict about that. Overall, she is such a sweetheart! I wish i could retake the class with her because she's that great.
If you want to take an English class seriously, then take Sanwo's class. In class are broad discussions but class essays are very focused and she gives plenty of opportunity in class to discuss any problems that students may have writing. She is very helpful during office hours. I do think she requires a lot of reading and attendance is a must
I took her English 125 class a couple years ago and STILL use what she taught me. I would recommend her highly! Most memorable teacher yet.
Granted she's a good teacher but, you have to work for your grade. Her essay grading is strict. Everything is rubric based. Be sure to know what is going to happen on the class day and don't take her course unless it's your last option... and even then don't take it with her.
Sanwo is the best professor I have had yet! She is willing to help any way she can and will answers any questions students may have. Yes, there is lots of reading assigned, but she makes the discussions fun! Her class flies by as long as you participate. I took her for English 1B and was terrified of the class, but she made it not feel so bad.
Very friendly. Sad to state, however, that she is a teacher who reads off of books that tell her how to teach the class materials. On reading a Shakespeare piece, it was hard not to notice the book she was reading off during the lecture called something of the likes of, "How To Read Shakespeare." Difficult to take her lectures seriously.
Melanie is a fantastic instructor and a fantastic person. Her lectures are incredibly fun to take part in, and she brings the content of the class to life. She is super helpful, and she loves what she teaches. So long as you show up to class and pay attention, you should do fine. One of the best instructors at CCC.
Melanie Sanwo is disrespectful, sarcastic, and annoying. The professor presents the material in a confused way. She seems unsure about the material and on her way of teaching. The professor isn't clear about the requirements and how much the assignments count. She's unprofessional, unready and unqualified to be a professor. .
Lots of reading but, at least you get your moneys worth for the textbook. lots of writing but as the semester goes by they become easier.
Nice professor but can be quite annoying. If you plan to skip and not give it you're all, don't even bother with this class. Essays are really difficult but you will learn from her. Make sure to have a textbook or you'll fail.
Ms. Sanwo is such a great instructor!! She is also very helpful and her lessons are clear and understandable. Taking her class made me well prepared to take English 1A.
DO NOT TAKE. She assigns an extreme amount of hw for a class you don't even get units for. Does not let you out early, talks past your out time and seems very un-organized. Makes you move desks daily to get into groups of 4 to read and present whatever she assigns your group. Randomly calls on your during class. No bathroom breaks or phones aloud
LOTS of work. Enjoyed english before this class and now I hate it. Would not recommend.
She gives so much homework for a three unit class. If you have another option take another teacher. She will give you a book to read on top of essay's with small assignments to do.
Extremely tough grader and completely unorganized. She has a terrible memory, she'll say an expectation, but the rubric says something different and her grading is hard. Unhelpful, rude, and disrespectful if you go in during office hours. She does give a lot of homework and the points add up, so don't be lazy and expect to work every class.
She is the best teacher I have ever met. She makes students to learn and be successful . She has the best personality and the kindness heart which is important to be teacher. She is professional, always supports students in every hard situation. She is example of how to be the best teacher, and how to be the best person.
She is the BEst
Took Sanwo a few semesters ago for Eng125. Got a "C" in her class. One of the worse instructor. Treats the class like junior high students. No restroom breaks(F that, I'm an adult). Since I left CCC, I took Eng1A at the Madera center & received an "A". Worth the drive out there.
I should've listened to my friends who had previously taken her class about not enrolling. She gives so much work, you'll have an assignment every day and they're pretty tough if you don't do the reading. Essays are long and nothing like I've done before. She's nice but just expects too much.
Make me able to write good essay!
Pros: will make you a better writer Pretty easy going, forgives late work, when an essay is due gives a class day to edit, manageable HW Cons: Treats class like a middle school (no phone), forces participation, only 4 absences, lots of reading, will call you out if not focused, group work If you want to show up an keep to yourself, Not for you
Treats the students like children. Unorganized, will post the rubric for the essays the day they are due. No phone policy, and if seen with phone or anything to do with phone, "students will be forced to stand up in front of the class and sing, and be publicly humiliated". Unfair grader. Never had a problem with English and now have to retake.
She assigns too many projects and expects you to gain knowledge from reading the textbook. Most of her classes are pointless to attend as you don't really learn anything from her and because you could spend the time working on the many projects you have to do. Although the actual work is simple in execution, they are extremely time consuming.
DON'T TAKE THIS class. I spent money on books that she never made us use throughout the semester. I wasted $50 on mini quizzes every day that don't make sense! Shes very unorganized & changes the due dates randomly thinking we know when to do it. She assigns papers to galore and thinks we are machines. Her grading is terrible, & now I struggle.....
Ms. Sanwo is a great teacher. She does not treat her students like kids, she actually treats her students like college students. She is very understanding and is awesome at giving feedback even if the work is wrong she will help guide the student back on track. The work she gives out maybe a lot or difficult, but she always gives time in class.
She is a good instructor but gives us many projects/homework to do. However, she is very helpful during her office hours.
She gave lots of homework; however, she is very helpful. Just come to her office, she will give you feedback and help you to do your homework. Get ready to read.
Take this class at your own risk. She is a sweet person but is VERY unorganized. She skips from one thing to the next and makes many mistakes which dont get me wrong is fine, everyone makes mistakes but she even confuses herself aswell as the whole class. Assigns a buttload of work & expects all your time to be put into the class. very confusing.
Mrs. Sanwo is a very nice and caring person but most students do have other classes. I would recommend her if you aren't taking many classes but the first day we had 7 assignments due by midnight. There are many essays with good feedback but she is still a very tough grader. We read one book which was just a little interesting. Also online quiz
Do not take, you either pass the class or you dont. Lots of essays easy to do but if its not her standard you will not pass. Do not skip class Bc you will not pass. Extremely unorganized.
Great teacher to learn the proper ways of writing. A little tough with grading and homework. There was too many activities in class and out where it gets tiring. She's really nice and willing to help you outside the class. Always provides you with good feedbacks and responds a little faster than other teachers to your emails.
The class was very difficult. I was give very bad grades on all essays even through i did try to get help.
Get ready to put in your time for reading and homework. She spoon feeds the class ALL the tools you need to pass the class. Yes shes strict and expects a lot from college students but believe me, shes gonna bring out the best of your writing. Im glad I got her, school isnt suppose to be easy and she helps you as a student beyond words.
hope you don't have a job or any other class because you wont have the time to do so because your life becomes dedicated 1 essay, let me remind you you basically write 4 essays a week every week besides one. You can not slack off one bit, because if you do trust me you wont be passing. And don't even bother following the rubric, it won't help you.
Really enjoyed this professor and she helped me grow as a writer.
First started college it was a good intro class, helped me grow as a writer.
it seems like it'll be really hard but do not back out!! it gets easier through the months and you will learn a TON of writing tricks. i learned so much in this class and mrs. sanwo is an amazing instructor!! just do every assignment and you will be ok because she spoon-feeds you the directions. it amazes me how much i've grown as a writer.
Mrs. Sanwo ks a wonderful person give her a chance.
Be patient with the teacher and everything gets a million times better.
Mrs. Sanwo is an amazing teacher and gives wonderful feedback. She seriously cares about all her students and how they do in her class. The only bad thing I would say is that there is a ton of writing, you must get it all done to keep up with your grade. Thankfully, she is very understanding and will work with you if you meet with her.
Took her for the honors seminar class, all we did was discuss a book in groups every week and then had a group project in the end. She's nice and approachable, only thing was that she forgot this class was only 6 weeks and had to rush the project at the end, but it was still pretty easy.
Mrs. Melanie Sanwo, is a great instructor, her instructions for the most part were clear and understandable. The books she assigned this semester were great reads and I even learned a few life lessons from them. She gives good and helpful feedback. She's great to talk to and is helpful with talking through my thoughts and ideas for my essays.
Took her for the seminar class and overall it was pretty easy. We just discussed a book in groups each week (each person in the group has a role and someone turns in the notes) and had a group project at the end. Only thing was she forgot the class is only 6 weeks and rushed the project so my group was pretty confused.
I really appreciated having Mrs. Sanwo as a teacher, she is very accommodating to students with disabilities and very flexible in her grading; she often (almost always) allows late work to be turned in. As with any other English course, there is a lot of reading and a lot of writing, but she does very well to prepare students.
Specifically for English 1AH
Sister Sanwo was such a blessing this semester. I used most of my assignments when applying for jobs or updating my LinkedIn profile and resume. She gave me helpful feedback on every single assignment and checked in with me throughout the semester. I am not a super studious person, but I would recommend this class to anyone!
(FOR ENGL 1AH) Sanwo is super nice and caring. Super flexible and a nice grader. The only thing is you're gonna get more essays and assignments compared to the other professors. But you will be graded nicely. This class also had very unique assignments and opportunities that I appreciated.
Sanwo is one of the best professors I have had! She is very attentive to her students, as well as understanding and caring. She always makes sure that everyone is on the same page by including in-class activities so students can/are encouraged to ask those questions. She definitely loves English and her enthusiastic spirit is present every day!
This class was tougher than expected. Lots of reading, usually expected to be done before class. She's very kind and understanding of students' needs as well as very passionate about what she does. You can tell she loves her job. Writing is a big part of the class, so as long as you're okay with that, I'd 100% recommend her
Her class is work heavy, but you have an extension after every assignment to get it done. She is very understanding of her students needs and cares for them. 100% loves her job and shows up every day with a smile. If you don't like writing a lot then this is not for you, though she can help you out and going to her office hours help a lot!
Wish i could see my grades so im able to have easier time keeping track over the semester , the X's and check mark sistem took forever to comb through all the work to check if im passing or not, grade % would be nice to have
Professor Sanwo is a very kind teacher, allowing students to drop by in class for anything in need. I recommend taking her class for 1A and 205 because not only its participation based but the class is very easy as long as you just do the work. She cares about her individual students writing and she is by far one of the best ENG teachers I've had.
Melanie Sanwo was a great professor, she helped explain things and made it easy to understand. She was always eager to teach everyone always had a smile on her face.
She helped me enjoy writing essays and showed me how to quickly write one. Mrs. Sanwo is such a wonderful teacher!
very kind and respectful.
Nothing much besides there were a lot of papers, but she gives enough time to do them. There are plenty of opportunities for extra credit.
Nothing to note
Prof Sanwo is super caring and you can tell she is very passionate about her work. She emphasizes inclusivity and making a safe space for everyone. Her class is definitely load heavy and requires a lot of time outside of class, although she gives a lot of support and leeway. I would take again she is an amazing teacher!
Bryce Nicasio
A professor unlike any other. She grades differently in a good way and has a lot of class activities and discussions.
Very kind, clear grading, caring
Sanwo is super nice and has a very easy grading scale. Legit just turn in the work and you will get a good grade. She is very supportive and understanding, just communicate with her.
The class was easy, but her lectures would be very boring. Just do the work and come to class and it's an easy A.
Professor Sanwo is a relatively simplistic teacher. The grading policies are outlined in the syllabus - leniency is present in submissions. Workload is not heavy; four essays are assigned, three must be completed. Redemption opportunities for missed assignments are provided.
She's the sweetest. She has a lot of assignments but they aren't that hard. Although some of the subjects are boring she makes the class better.
I quickly came to respect and appreciate Professor Sanwo. She has clear guidelines in the syllabus. Even though this was a required class, I am glad I took it. She requires you to attend most classes and has a fair amount of mandatory homework and essays to get a passing grade. However, each assignment had meaning, and I learned a lot.
Sanwo is such an amazing teacher! I was a notetaker through a DSP&S program, and she was very helpful, communicative, and understanding! The workload is a bit hefty, as there is homework almost every day after class, but it is doable, and she always gives super helpful feedback! Her lectures are very class-oriented, so participate!
Sanwo In my opinion is great. Has her own class AI. WHICH IS HELPFUL!! USE IT!! She has a very cut and dry grading policy, very binary. Pretty easy work. Only downside is the lectures are very interactive; you will be called on and giving opinions on topics. (I'm not the most sociable person) Lots of standing up. Professor, very understanding.
Professor Sanwo is great! She has helped me out several times and I appreciate that. I do wish we used class time for assignments rather than things that did not relate to or were not helpful to our assignments. Overall the class was great, and I reccomend.
Professor Sanwo was a great professor. The course load may seem like a lot but can easily be managed and if communication is well with professor extensions are available. She's very easy to contact and always available outside of class to talk, learn, or gain help from. She really does care about her students and seeing them succeed.
Good at giving feedback on essays
Unique grading system that's way less stressful.
Her class was good, assignments were clear and had a lot of depth to them. In-class discussions were useful for assignments. Slightly hard to keep up with assignments for me specifically because of sports, work and other classes, but the grace periods and revision opportunities she provided were very helpful.
She is a fair grader and cares for her students success!
Class is relatively fair and easy. A lot of in-class activities, so make sure you attend them, but she gives you extra credit if you're absent. (Things happen, so she understands and is very caring.) Grades are point based so it out of 1 as opposed to it being -/10 or etc. Very lenient and understanding, allows for assignments to be corrected.
Get points for in-class assignments that can only be completed if you attend the class. All these assignments are interactive in some way and it's a different activity every class. Prof. Sanwo encourages students to share their opinions and including opposing opinions to her own. She's understanding and works with you if you communicate with her.
The class isn't very easy especially if you don't like english. But she is a very good professor and is very patient, if you need help just ask for it.
She's nice just a lot of work
Really good teacher and easy to talk to if you need feedback. Definitely would take her class again if i ever had to.
Grading Criteria is very strange, its per assignment completed instead of the average percentage grading system.
Essays might be the hardest part. She changes the script a little bit on how she does the class for our semester so same might go for yours.
Learn about Ai and ways to Argument. Nothing is graded harsh but lots of criteria to follow
Each assignment is graded by either complete or incomplete. So basically you need a 100% on an assignment in order to get a 1/1, and this is for EVERY assignment. It may sound hard but it is actually pretty easy, just do the work.
Showing up is mandatory to get the grade you want. Prof. Sanwo also interacts with her students which is great.
Best English professor, understanding, helpful gives useful resources and makes sure you pass no matter what.
Shes cool i guess
Participation matters in this class and is class discussion heavy, but as long as you show up and get complete work on time you'll definitely pass. She's a very understanding professor too.
She's lenient, super nice, and super understanding! Definitely a class that makes you crack out your shell a little more, but every lecture is engaging and wonderful with her presence :)
She's is awesome and very kind
Professor Sanwo is an amazing professor! She is great at teaching, caring, sweet, and truly invested in her students. She is lenient, always supportive, and made learning feel approachable. Her encouragement and dedication showed she genuinely wanted us to succeed, not just pass. She made the classroom a warm, motivating, and welcoming place!
Sanwo is a great teacher with lots of compassion. She gives a fair amount of work that is not very difficult.
