Horrible explanation. She was always all over the place. She could never accept others opinions and was never willing to help.
I thought she was a great professor. She explained everything that you needed to know for exams very clearly. Definitely want to get on her good side though
I really like Melanie as a teacher. She was helpful and I enjoyed her class. I also like how she used small exercises and group discussions during the class.
Horrible instructor; takes forever to mark anything; expects amazing grammar/spelling but yet can't form a proper sentence; very rude during presentations; most annoying voice.
worst teacher ever. i took intro mgmt and believe me she will try her best to cut marks. she is not even able to explain most of concepts clearly and if you try to make your point she will pick you every next time in front of class. please save your time and money and try any other teacher.
Personally i'm good at theory's, but this teacher "Melanie Simmons" is definitely worst teacher i ever dealt with. She is not able to explain a single theory clearly and if you try to question something she will take toll of it while grading your exams. Save your hard earned money fellas. Shes a big no no
Not clear when giving feedback. Marks based on textbook answers, don't try to think outside the box. It WILL be marked wrong.
NAIT should take her test again about the subjects she's teaching. Horrible at explaining, rude, and instead of helping you she will say i can't do anything. Don't choose her until you have enough time to do management course twice. Shame on you NAIT
MELANIE IS AWESOME I DONT CARE WHAT ANYONE ELSE SAYS. Seriously Melanie is mad real, not fake like a lot of other instructors. She will tell you how it is, if you don't like it.. too bad Her roughness is judged as rude, but if you attend her class and you're not a walking dead ZOMBIE. You will be just fine!!
First day of class 27-30 students. After 10 days 20-25 students. After midterms 17-20 students, after second quiz 10-13 students. She got bad attitude problem. if you just politely asked a about something you didn't understood in previous class she'l be like its not my job to tell you something i already told.70% students drop her class. bad :(
one of the bad decisions in my academic life was to choose this teacher. now i'm paying cost by getting bad marks. she is always there to remind you that she's the one with authority and student is nothing in front of her. may she rot in hell.
Meet Melanie Simmons. She is there to fail you. Ranked one at failing students. No wonder why number of students gets reduced to one fourth till the end of semester.
She can be very abrasive and the group project is massive. But, she prints out the midterm and final and a class or two before the exam, she literally goes through the whole test and tells you what topic each question is on, what to study. Without that, I would think this class is difficult because of the amount of material there is to cover.
Its her way or the high way. In general the class was really easy however to do the case report was a huge pain. Even though the rubric she gave specifically for the project was followed closely, she wouldn't accept it as quality work. Then when asked what to fix, she would not give feedback whatsoever.
She's a tough teacher, but its not much more than a professor that holds you to a high standard. I had her in 4th year and she expected 4th year work which seemed to put some students off. Gives really good outlines of what she wants so if you miss something, its not on her. You gotta pay attention
Absolutely hated this class ! she had a horrible attitude and expectations were unclear. the only reason anyone passed was because she told the class exactly what would be on exams
i took her in diploma and was on the verge to get into depression due to her. whatever anyone says she is one to make sure you don't pass the course.
She is not supportive of her students and she is very rude. She offers no guidance and is the worst instructor I have ever had. She will give you extensive assignments but if you have a question, don't count on her to respond or be helpful, let alone polite. Worst teacher ever I hope she reads all these comments so she can see how brutal she is.
I had Melanie for OB, and she was a lot better than I was expecting. I wouldn't go off of her poor rating on here. Maybe it was different for those who had her for MGMT. I don't think she is a tough grader at all. She gives lots of hand outspractice questions and makes sure you're well prepared for exams.
Melanie's assignments can be a bit confusing. If she gives you time in class, ask lots of questions about it and keep your ears open for changes. If you're not comfortable writing long papers and case studies, it'll be reflected in your grade. She also likes to get the class to do the teaching, by doing mini-presentations, instead of lecturing.
Once you stop thinking as an independent individual you will survive. Stop thinking for yourself and restate everything in the textbook or material she provides. Do not "demand" clarity from instructions or feedback from exams or assignments. It just isn't worth the hassle.
Make sure if you have this teacher you have lots of time to put in to the class. Posting is required for each week and all post have to meet the 250 minimum work, or you will not get good marks. Lots of extra research is required and lots of writing. If you do not have time to put at least 20 hours into her class drop it.
I would not take a class with her ever again. Makes examples students who disagree with her. She reads straight from the textbook and doesn't know the material she's teaching. She is not helpful and cannot give feedback on why she gave you the mark she did. She changes her mind a lot of what's 'right' and will mark you based on how she feels.
She is absolutely the worst prof at nait. I missed ONE class in the semester because I was in the hospital for an asthma attack, and cut me up for it. I was expected to catch up in, I'm not joking, one hour, while she purposely withheld an essential document I needed to complete it until class was over. This assignment was for marks.
Just to reiterate some previous comments: Tough grader on assigments, over 20 hours of homework a week, not helpful at all with answering questions, assignments every class, does not have a pleasant demeanor, and does not care about the students' success. The only good thing I could say is that she gave comprehensive information on exam content.
Melanie appears to give easy assignments, but if you miss any class it is evident in the way she grades your papers. Not including how she won't help you if you miss class. She goes with "if you show your dedication, she will help you" Yet in my experience i haven't received any. Be prepared to learn your terms because thats what tests are on.
I had Melanie for International Business and I thought she was great. If you show up and pay attention, you'll do just fine. She's hard on you if you don't get involved in the class, but being involved is the best way to learn. Make sure you bring your textbook to class, she uses it for lots of exercises.
I absolutely hate this teacher. Very rude, not supportive at all, tough grader. She got mad when students emailed her for clarification. Hah! This women is a joke.
Very rude and loud and abrasive. Did not respond well to people asking questions. A lot of homework and writing. I would rate her the worst professor i have ever had.
Watch out for the final exam. You need to be on top of your game.
She is pretty intimidating but ultimately she's a great teacher. She can be mean if you don't put in the effort or if you skip class on the regular. I found her lectures to be pretty entertaining and on point. She was probably one of the best instructors I've had.
Be a normal student, go to class, participate, pay attention and you'll get a great mark. she provide great reviews for exams and clear expectations for group projects!
She picks favorites in class. She doesn't like to answer questions. She makes students feel like they are a bother to her. This class could have been fantastic if I had a different teacher. This post may help the student choose the prof or learn to deal with her however it will never help her as she doesn't read them and she will tell you so .
I have never had such an awful teacher, from how tough she graded each assignment, to the insane amount of work that the group project required to end up getting a crappy mark. If you miss class, she won't accept any excuse except a doctors note. Not impressed and I could have done much better had I understood her English as well.
To be blunt, she is awful as a teacher. Does not encourge creativity at all. You basically must spew out information straight from the textbook to be deemed acceptable. Abrasive and offers no support at all. Does not seem to care at all about her students.
This is coming from a student with average 3.8 GPA. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE steer clear from this teacher. Absolutely worst teacher and a person too. I don't know what her problem is. My whole academic career, i never seen teacher like her. She needs to change her profession. NAIT is loosing reputation due to teachers like her. Get any other teacher
Melanie was a tough marker so don't expect anything less than that. Don't take online because she hates online students and the participation mark is hard to get. She does give a great review for the final though.
Very very tough grader. Do not expect to receive a high grade in her class. Also not very clear on which assignments are for marks or not. Expect to teach yourself a lot of the material yourself. Would not reccomend her as a professor.
Melanie is a really hard grader and her marking is all over the place. Her expectations are very unclear and she says read the rubric but the rubric doesn't actually align with what she says she is looking for. Do not exepect a good mark in her class and you must attend class because she takes attendance. FYI only 3 people passed her mock midterm..
The worst teacher I ever had. The worst grader also. She doesn't provide enough instructions or feedback. Turned a great course into the worst one for me.
Gives a ton of handouts but they are really helpful. I had a problem with the disrespect she showed towards us and to a fellow teacher who was nice enough to teach her class when she had an emergency. She committed so many perceptual errors the irony was almost to much too handle. She's helpful but not clear with what she wants so ask questions!!
I wouldn't recommend Melanie to ANYONE. She simply doesn't care for any of her students and is unclear of her expectations.
I have watched her grade harshly, be unwilling to back up her grades, be unwilling to elaborate on her comments (expect useless comments, such as "?"), and become rude and biased when challenging. I would not recommend her whatsoever, unless you want to regurgitate textbook information, spend hours, and still only get 50-60% on projects.
Melanie requires 15-20 hrs/weekly for weekly postings that need extensive research. It was very tough & time-consuming. She gives extra credit for hard work, grades fairly, & easily available for questions. The course material is very heavy, and she's doing a great job in making students understand it thoroughly. Recommended for high-achievers.
doesn't seem to care for her students, I find her to be quite rude actually.
Super hard to gain relevant, valid feedback from - the exact critique my group received from her on an assignment consisted of gems like "...?" "No..." and, my personal favourite, "you need to be more specific, but more vague." I don't know how anyone could pass in her class, let alone learn. This could be an Easy A class with anyone else.
If you miss a class and ur not there she won't give you the assignment next week to do for marks. If she doesn't like the way you look, you're going to fail lol.
As a 4.0 student I had no qualms about taking this class. I was wrong. Melanie is rude, unapproachable, & unprofessional. She does not make her expectations clear. When she is approached for clarity, she is highly condescending. Instructors like this hurt NAIT's creditability. She does not enourage learning. I have no respect for her. Be aware.
If you can stay away from Melanie! She has to be the absolute worst instructor at Nait. I'm a 4.0 student and this class brought down my average! Email question to her, expect at minimum 48 hrs for a response, and then it's vague. She can't back up her grades, and just expects you to take it. She's rude and completely unprofessional. Stay Away
Hard to say if my perspective of Melanie is skewed by taking the course online, but it's the first and only time in my four years at NAIT where I've been compelled to rate a teacher. She's been distant for the majority of the semester, has extraordinarily unclear expectations and gives limited feedback or validation for marks given.
If you enroll this course and find out your instructor is her, drop it off right now!!!!No joke! Unless you are ready to spend 20 hrs /week to complete her homework online! and the requirement of responding other posts is minimum 250 words! She is useless and unreachable! If you have a question, be prepare to wait for a week!
heavy course load and she is not very helpful. Do not take this online class not worth the trouble.
Start demotivate you from first day. Never take this subject.
I took this course during the spring semester so it's compressed. She does a great job of conveying what curriculum is imperative to success and what isn't. She does lots of worksheets during her lectures so you get practice on the concepts. All in all a great prof. She is a really tough marker for written assignments though.
She is very rude. Please save yourself some time and effort and just pick another class because she is a disaster! She will not help on a group project and just say "that's why it's a group project, consult with your group mates" and will not give you a specific feedback at all. PLEASE, do not take a class with her.
Melanie didn't lecture us ever, we were expected to read the textbook and that was it. You basically have to teach yourself this course so way as well take it online or with someone else. She is not a fair grader, she piled on so many papers and gave very little explanation of what she wanted, takes forever to return assignments. Do not take her!!!
This prof made my semester 100 times more difficult. Was always stuck doing homework, she made way too many assignments. Tough marker and loves to deduct for tardiness. My other courses suffered because of this class. Would not recommend this prof. I will likely end with a poor grade even after all the hard work and time spend on the course.
Melanie isn't as bad as I thought she would be - but she is bad. Her ability as an instructor is somewhere between hot and regular garbage. - She is rude - Rarely responds to emails - Instructions are vague, and subject to change any time - Unruly amount of work required to earn decent grade - 1 week of class left, only 15% of assignments graded
I would not recommend Melanie as an instructor. The first day of class she told us not to believe what we read on rate my prof. I wonder why? I found her unclear with giving instructions, very vague, and honestly quite rude. She does not take constructive criticism well and does not like to be challenged during a lecture. Do not take her class.
Melanie can be harsh but if you show up to class and are respectful you won't have a problem. She doesn't like people who are late and skip. Show a solid effort and she will respect you and help you with whatever you need. I also found she taught concepts well.
worst instructor in nait she is so very rude not help full at all she will not appreciate your hard work at all always discourage you and put you down ,my advice, do not take any class with her
Online discussions only worth 15%, but you must do them for the entire semester. Each post (each question in a forum discussion for the week) MUST be 250+ words. This includes responses to students. It is very difficult to maintain an A+ no matter how much work you do. Expect to write "paper-like" discussions each week. Rubrics are vague.
This course is like a combination of two courses in one. Expect a lot of work to be done for weekly discussions and papers. Too much work for weekly discussions only worth 15%. Rubrics are vague. Difficult to know what she expects from you. Very rude. Selective with emails to respond to. Not helpful at all. Difficult to maintain a high GPA.
She is a great instructor! I enjoyed taking this class with her in class. She was helpful and always easy to get a hold of! You will do well in that class if you show up!!
I didn't use the textbook too much in this course but its still good to have it here and there. There were some group projects but they were not difficult either, its about being confident and knowing your stuff and she's more than happy to help as well. She will correct you if youre wrong and Im glad she did
I took this class in class and I was happy to take it with her. She is accessible outside of class and there some group projects but they weren't hard.
She is really nice and easy to get a hold of outside of the classroom. She will answer any questions that you have but she gives the most important information during lectures so I would recommend going to those
She gives you really good feed back and is easy to reach out of class. She gives important info during class so dont miss it. She wont repeat herself
She's knowledgable about international business but lack people skills. You'll never win an argument with her. Be ready for X-culture.
Melanie Simmons makes the courses she teaches more difficult than they need to be. She seems to relish in opportunities to make the required timelines more difficult. This is an online class and as such most of her customers are working full time. She is less than fully accommodating and appears to provoke some of the students.
She is a great teacher and easily accessible outside of class. Make sure to go to her lectures because she will give the most important emails there. She is easy to talk to and more than willing to help!
Great instructor! she was really helpful and easy to get a long with!
I think the ratings on here are very harsh so I want to help Melanie out. You do good quality work; you'll receive a fair grade. X-Culture is hit or miss depending on the group you are matched with. Overall, Melanie is helpful, fair, and willing to listen to your concerns.
I highly recommend Melanie for this course! she made it easy and was easy to get a hold of outside of class. She can be very blunt but i would honestly just pay attention in class and you'll do fine!
She's really easy to get a hold of outside of class and always willing to help. I would avoid missing class because she gives you all the important details there. I found the class easy to follow along to and the course load was not difficult
Melanie thinks that her subjects are student's life for a whole semester. She gave ridiculously heavy course requirements that need more than 20 hours a week just for projects and assignments. She never understands that students have other life too. She also has a very weird way of communicating and does not respond to emails!
This class is a heavy course load, especially if you take it online. Weekly discussion forums are essay-like in length and require readings as well as tons of external research. Melanie is a very strict grader, but I found that if you put in the effort, you will get the marks you deserve. If hard work does not scare you, you will do fine.
I took this class online and it was the most challenging of all my online courses. Weekly discussions take up alot of your time. I found Melanie not Easily accessible, she took to long to reply to a question. Her grading criteria was not clear. She wasn't terrible but I've had better online instructors. Take this course In class if you can.
She is good. She did give me timely feedback and replied to my mails as well. All she wants you to do is to follow her rubrics and if you do that then you will do really well. My friends had Adam and got b/c but. Melanie was pretty fair and I got an A. Shes worth taking! Just do her rubrics!
Melanie is nice. I never had bad experience with her. She has two group projects, I heard other instructors had more. I do not regret for taking her. Shes a tough grader if u dont follow her marking style. I followed everything and did extremely well. This class isnt as tough as you think. Do your part and u will do fine
Melanie is just a weird person. I took her online class, the amount of hrs I spent on her assignments is close to 40hrs/wk. she marks you based on "holistic perspective", very biased!! her instructions are very vague, not clear. she marks hard. and does not give a chance to discuss grading. Very horrible, not recommended. please don't choose her.
Easily the worst instructor I've ever had. I am an A student, and work really hard, and this was the hardest course I ever took. Way more difficult than necessary, weekly assignments that take at least 5 hours to get a good mark, huge papers, and incredibly difficult and unclear projects. Does not respond often, and if she does, she's rude. Run.
I don't mind if melanie is a tough grader or not, or even if she gives out lots of homework but at least break down how you are grading your students work. If i send you an message or email asking for some clarification then im expecting some feedback. I am paying you to teach me, if you can't help me then please refund my money.
This class was my worst class. I had A's in my other classes that barely required as much work as much as I had to do every week in this class. Expect to write about 1500 words every week for discussion forums and about 10 quizzes with 60 questions and 2 assessments. If you ask her anything for help expect to get a vague answer.
Arguably the worst professor I've ever had the displeasure of taking a course with. Very vague and abrupt email responses to questions, poor quality rubrics for grading assignments, and doesn't explain grading procedures/justification for grades very well other than a short sentence.
Worst instructor I have ever encountered at NAIT. Disrespectful and rude, this instructor is in the wrong line of work. Often she will complain about her colleagues. Your job is to motivate, inspire, and educate and you are horrible at it. Melanie Simmons you are not an educator. I suggest you strongly reflect on your teaching skills.
She is a phenomenal instructor! She is extremely knowledgeable and professional inside and outside of the classroom. She makes herself available to students, goes above and beyond, as well as provides extensive feedback all to ensure student success and understanding. One of my favourite instructors that I would welcome taking another class from.
Super vague, inconsistent, inadequate, and unjustifiable. The worst instructor I ever had. Although I didn't fail the class or get terrible marks, but be ready to either fail or barely pass after being so miserable, spending huge amount of time trying to do your best, and getting over stressed, distracted, and disappointed. Negligence!
Worst teacher ever, im straight A student and scored A infact, but this teacher is the worst ive ever had in my last 23 years. There is soo much i hate about her but then again il rather tell you to steer clear.
While not the worst out there, she is not fun to have as an instructor. Instructions are vague; encourages questions yet is deflective and hard to approach. Being informal isn't necessarily bad but she goes past that into rude. Attend lectures but focus on your own work/projects, it'll be more productive that way.
The definition of a boomer instructor that assumes students are incapable of understanding anything. Avoid at all costs.
Melanie is not the teacher everyone seems to be writing so negatively about. If you can attend class and do your work following her rubrics, you should get an easy A. Workload is average and she is a fair marker. She had very positive energy with my class and was honestly nice. Not mean unless you give her a reason to be. Participation matters.
Melanie Simmons. Worst Instructor ever. Hates those who chose to challenge her, will try and make an example out of you and will go above and beyond to fail you. Im speaking from experience. No matter how much you try and respect her and show professionalism, she will take it as you being weak smh. she has her favorites too so Basically STAY LOW!
Melanie grades students assignments very erratically. She will give you a bad mark if she feels you did not put the time in. She does not clearly explain what her expectations are to students, so it is easy to do a ton of work and get a bad mark. Get in a good group because you can get burned badly in this course for their bad work. I did.
tough grader, she is trying to pick holes from the paper.
HORRIBLE!!
Extremely fractious /grim marker, more focused on her stature vs input from students. Expects students not to be students, openly expresses students should knows everything, gives no latitude for being a student. Explains things poorly, contradicts text, does not answer simple questions outside of class without formally asking for an appt. Unfair
Melanie can be rough. The only "negative" feedback I would have is that her feedback is a bit vague. It's almost like a standard answer that everyone gets when questioning something and not very helpful. However, during this Covid19 thing, she was accommodating, which I didn't expect, and it was very much appreciated. This was an online class.
Arrogant instructor Explains poorly Rough with students Marking makes no sense No manners Not ready for lectures and contradicts the textbook Poor instructions
Does not give appropriate feedback and her marking rubrics are mostly subjective. Students have admitted doing no work on their essay still getting a pass, yet students with 3.7 GPAs fail and get "not enough information" as feedback on theirs. Honours/Pass/Fail saved our asses because this teacher is inconsistent in marking between students.
If you work full time, i would suggest pick a different prof. With COVID, i ended up having to work more. This made me miss alot of online classes. Every other prof was understanding of this situation however melanie made sure to make this class more difficult than it has to by not recording classes and grading bias according to attending class.
Melanie is difficult with a capital B. Her approach is "arm's length" to the point of negligence; ZERO accountability. Assignment requirements? Vague. Expectations?Unclear. Rubric? Inconsistent. Grading? Arbitrary. Feedback? Garbage. She's bad at responding to emails and she's hard to talk to in person. Petty and prideful. Horror stories abound.
After reading the horrible reviews about Mel I decided to take a shot at this course due to a lack of options. I would have been better off delaying graduating to avoid taking her class. NAIT should be embarrassed to have her on staff. Instructions are FAR from being clear. Feedback on 3000+ word forums includes "need more clarity", AVOID HER CLASS
Do not ask questions in this class. Melanie does not like or respect them. She is the example of a teacher who when you are confused looks at you like you are an idiot. Even if your question is valid and she was not specific enough in her instructions, and you are genuinely confused.
If you have read the other negative comments, I can assure you they are all true. In fact, if I could give 0 as a rating I would. Melanie does not adequately answer questions, will not admit fault, does not provide feedback that makes any sense, is extremely rude, and is not fit for any classroom. She is a dictator. Period.
Melanie loves to make you feel incompetent. Her feedback is arbitrary. She makes you wait over 3 weeks for marks. Refrain from asking questions- it's hard since her instructions are clear as mud, but you will lose marks for asking questions (she sees it as unprepared). Melanie has been a major factor in the significant decline of my mental health.
Mel says students need to be more professional, yet she is the most unprofessional instructor I've had by far. You will either fail or spend the semester crying trying to figure out what her instructions are even trying to say. She is a textbook example of how not to treat people. Also takes weeks to mark. Asking questions WILL affect your grade.
While Melanie appreciates critical thinking. She won't hold your hand or tell you exactly what she wants. You need to come to those conclusions yourself. You can't glance at an assignment and ask "What am I supposed to do?" you have read the instructions and ask more specificly "Do I need to summarize a table or can I just put it in the paper?"
In Melanie's SMGT4460 class, it's not an easy thing to get an A or an A+. However, if you work hard, research well, and do much more than the minimum required you can achieve an A or an A+.
I took and asynchronous class with Melanie and she was very caring and understanding. She had a lot of work suggested but non of it affected my grades. My class was mainly out of a textbook because it was asynchronous. Overall her asynchronous course was great.
Her instructions are hard to grasp & moodle is cluttered/hard to read. If you ask for clarity she will make consider you unprepared. She has become really angry at our class (attendance, tech issues, homework) and I watched her take it out on a group today totally gutting and destroying their presentation. Those poor ladies will be graded harshly.
My main complaint about Melanie is that she unnecessarily complicates simple assignments, providing very little useful information. You are not missing out by just reading pre-made instructions on Moodle and saving yourself from listening to Melanie confusing the entire class and herself. Also has quite an attitude, and I found her unpleasant.
Melanie is not a good instructor. She gives no clear instruction on assignments, she's difficult to understand and belittles students in front of classmates. Many students in my class filed complaints against her and quite a few dropped out. All the staff I know hate her, yet for some reason, NAIT just promoted her to Program Chair. It's baffling.
My advice for success with M: Be prepared (read), Don't ask questions that are on the syllabus. Be professional (on time and participate in class). Take feedback and apply it. Say what you learned as in "my experience is .." or "What I realized was .." she likes self- reflection. She's not nearly as bad as these comments make her out to be.
She is a very strict marker and not friendly at all.
unclear about instructions, work load un evenly distributed. seems unorganized with the material
SHE IS THE WORST! Run away as far as you can if you see this name. Too much homework, rough grader, unnecessary class quiz, pointless assignments.
Not a nice person, likes to argue with students and gives vague help.
I have Melanie this semester and she is the most unhelpful prof i've ever had. She provides very vague feedback (literally copies and pastes instructions and sends it back to you) - how is that helpful when clearly the instructions weren't helpful after the 50% I received. I would never take a class with her again.
You know, as a human being just trying my make the best of my day, this is the type of teacher that makes it really hard. She is very vague when it comes to help and sends you directly to tech support rather than explaining what to do. I saw her reviews before taking her class but I had no choice to choose her. Save your time, mental health, $$
This professor is too vague with her instructions and should be ashamed for the embarrassment she calls teaching .No-one taking this class will get clear instructions on any questions you might have for her. AVOID TAKING THIS CLASS WITH HER AT ALL COST!!!
DO. NOT. USE. THIS. PROF. I am at min. a 70% student. I got by in this class with a 59%. She is: -hard to understand -extremely unorganized -unpredictable when responding ( can be very rude) -grading that makes no sense?? -does not provide constructive feedback -will forget to give you your grades -does not operate on a schedule -no examples
Class was delivered synchronously online. Content in e-text (revel) was actually pretty useful but e-text quizzes/assessments etc. were disabled in favor of using Moodle, which has been extremely disorganized, disjointed, and a labyrinth to navigate which is my primary complaint, delivery of the content has been poor and the expectations are murky
Some recorded lectures are incomprehensible. Therefore, I do not recommend her as an instructor.
Some of her recorded lectures are incomprehensible. Her performance as an instructor was just plainly awful.
I can't afford to fail a course and this professor made that possible. I read her reviews before but have no choice but to take it. Put in lots of effort and still, she can't give a decent mark on our projects. I regret taking the chance to learn this course with her. I am very upset. Never ever take any course with her. ;(
If you are planning to take her as an instructor, my advice is not to take her. Drop your class right now if you can.
Melanie is very disorganized. Her moodle page is over complicated and hard to navigate. Instructions for assignments are unclear. When I asked for help, I was told she couldn't help me. I would not recommend her for an online async class.
If you email her dont expect a straight answer. Also, if you dont answer the questions for the paper in the order she thinks you should, you wont get marks for it and she wont address it if you ask her about it. Also doesn't think we can think for ourselves. She marks you has if you were getting a doctorate, so dont expect good marks.
Her "Awful" rate says it all. The most inconsiderate instructor. Your opinions don't matter to her. She teaches about behavior, attitude, personality, etc., but doesn't know how to deal with student-teacher conflict, I must say. She doesn't take criticism on her work positively. I wouldn't recommend her, 100%! Good Luck if you enroll to her class.
Unfortunately, she is a very tough marker. Her lectures are hard to understand and if you email her about it she does not help at all. This is an introductory course but she makes it very hard than it should be. You're better off with a different instructor. TRUST.
Drop ur class right now if you have her. Im not sure she knows how to read. She does not pause when she's reading lol and her recorded lecture is a joke. She pronounces 'Aren't' as ''ant"... Imagine tryna write down notes. You can't. And if you ask her for help she'll say "read the textbook"
I should've trusted the students that wrote here. I've never gotten a mark bad my entire life until I enrolled in her class. She's a TOUGH GRADER. She failed our group project! Kind of inconsiderate IMO but good luck if you ever take one of her classes, though i wouldnt recommend.
The lectures were super long and didn't provide much more than the PowerPoints, in my opinion. She was easy to reach but her feedback wasn't great.
Mixed up her classes, and whole class emails from this instructor always ended with a snarky note that should've been a dead giveaway for how painful the semester with her would be: "I am willing to offer assistance, but please understand that I cannot prioritize your lack of planning over other responsibilities." Totally unprofessional
I know there are many terrible reviews for this instructor however, I have to say she was one of my favourites. I took MARK1130 with Melanie. Yes, she may be a "tougher" instructor but it is only in the sense that she expects you to participate and get your work done. She pushes people to ensure they succeed in her course.
One of the worst Professors, I do not know how she still have a job after all these comments. I am a good student, all the other courses have been pretty good for me. This Prof made sure students suffers, she does not take time to explain, reads the power points and barely replies to any emails. Save your mental health, money, time and drop her.
Lots of group project/presentations that are worth so little of the grade percentage. Awful way to engage students with the material.. treats it as if we are PHD level students.
ONE OF THE WORST INSTRUCTORS NAIT HAS EVER HAD..PLEASE DO NOT TAKE SMGT4460 WITH THIS INSTRUCTOR..
The way how she structured the International Business course is a nightmare, hard to navigate and find things on moodle. No rhyme or reason with the marking, as the directions for the papers and presentations are vague af. NAIT should be embarrassed hiring this calibre of an instructor. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE WITH HER, SAVE YOUR MONEY!
Unprofessional
As soon as I read her review here, I dropped the course immediately, took a different instructor, and received an A. I was there for a few hours before I dropped the course, and I could feel this instructor for the next 7 weeks would be a disaster with all the thousands of writing assignments and communicating with CAPITAL LETTERS.
Extremely unprofessional. The course materials are thrown together, deadlines on syllabus don't match course calendar, midterms were graded wrong and she didn't check. Some materials aren't even for the right course... typos, formatting issues, her overall apathy for the course material shines through. How is this allowed by NAIT.
Extremely disrespectful and treats adults like it is elementary school.
Melanie is a tough grader who makes the class way harder than it needs to be. Her lectures are confusing, and she's not helpful at all if you ask for assistance. unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for prepping for her exams and assignments.
I took this course online, and I have to say, I didn't think it was possible to be that passive-aggressive over email—so props to her for that. The entire course relied solely on Connect quizzes for learning, with absolutely no actual teaching provided, aside from three lengthy practice assignments per chapter.
Very tough grader. So rude professor
I never thought it was possible for me to dislike an instructor through an asynchronous course . Don't recommend her at all
Don't take her online class.
educating in business and communication sure lacks both. This teacher runs to the board when a student has any issues and because they are on the chair they always win. Even if there are proof of emails of how rude and unprofessional they are. They make there courses much harder then they have to be leaving learning a burden with them.
Do NOT take her class. Melanie is extremely rude, condescending, and lacks empathy. She is by FAR the toughest grader I've ever had, despite providing minimal/confusing instructions and feedback. If you slightly misunderstand an assignment, she will fail you.
Very tough marker. Vague instructions, no recorded lectures, she does zero actual teaching. Her rubrics are limited. When asked for clarification, she simply says refer to the rubric, provides zero actual assistance. Avoid if you can.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!This class is supposed to be very simple and easy, but Melanie makes it harder than it is.She's extremely rude and treats adults like kids. When she explains the assignment, you won't even understand what she's saying, and overcomplicate everything.Very tough grader her explanation for why she gave the mark doesn't make sense
I found Melanie to be a good instructor. She expects participation and challenges students in their learning. However, none of her expectations are unreasonable. She was engaged & classes were interesting. The term projects and assignments were interesting, beneficial & relevant. She is also very responsive to emails. I would absolutely take again
Extremely disappointed with this instructor. Melanie's teaching style feels more like shaming than supporting. Brightspace was outdated all term and riddled with spelling errors. Feedback lacked clarity or value. NAIT should not assign instructors like this to credit courses. Switch to another class ASAP if you get assigned.
Out of every professor I've had she is by far the worse. Melanie is very berating in her emails. When you ask questions she makes you regret you asked the question in the first place. Her exams are very unfair, long and set you up for fatigue and failure. Each question being at least a paragraph. Don't get me started on the group projects… a mess.
Firm but fair from my experience. Will hold you accountable to ensure you're putting in the work without hearing any excuses. Just follow the instructions given, do exactly what's expected for assignments/projects and you'll be fine.
She is so careless about student's hard work, she wants the work should be done very professionally. She cuts the marks for very little mistakes like even for a capital letter.
