Don't really need to get book cause she goes over all important points in class, but book could be helpful. Likes to talk just smile and nod.

she was our sub for 16 weeks. very fun, i never missed a day. got an a+ in the class and... shes hot, especially for a woman in her 40's. highly recomended

Great class..!! got a B on the first test, then was able to see how she tests. The trick is to read the ONE chapter before the next class meeting, it all makes sense then. The next two tests-- got high A's. She's fun and has a nice sense of humor. And I never had a sociology class in my life-- I'm 45. If you need a gen ed humanity TAKE this one!!

She's the best teacher I've ever had. She has fun activities to help you understand the lesson and there's barely any homework. As long as you pay attention in class, you'll do fine.

Real nice and fun professor. Love the class. Very easy. Read the chapters she assigns and go over lecture notes and your bound to get an A on the midterms and final. I extremely recommend this professor to anyone.

Awesome teacher, clear, fun, and easy. NO HOMEWORK!!!!! Notes are handed out in packet and that's what is on test. Attendance is mandatory but you'll wanna go. I highly recommend her.

i agree, she was an awesome teacher. her outlines carried most of the material covered on the test. there was hmwk, but it wasnt too much and she gave us plenty of time to finish it. attendance is extremely important. take her <3

Must take her! She is very sweet and hilarious! Never used my book once! Tests are ok. She never reviews for tests, no study guides, but if you pay attention tests are easy. Watched a lot of movies. Several in class assignments, two papers but they are very easy. Only had one take home homework assignment.

She's extremely nice and the class is one of the easiest As you will get if you do all the work (which isn't much). Tests are a joke, as long as you look at the notes from class which are fill in the blank ppt notes :] She doesn't seem like she should be a soc teacher though (she home schooled her kids) but she's cool.

She was really good at teaching soc. She likes to use examples from her life to explain during her lecture which is very interesting and funny at times. We had to do 2 papers that weren't hard at all and must attend class regularly because there are in class assignments.

I have had this teacher spring of 10 (last semester) for SOC 1 and I am currently taking her this fall for SOC 14 family and marriage. She is very nice and funny. She uses powerpoint and plays quite a few movies/films. I enjoy how she teaches because she explains very well and uses examples from her life to help us understand more better.

Excellent professor who knows her stuff. Doesn't expect too much. The class itself is really interesting and she knows how to keep you entertained so that you pay attention. Two simple papers and tests based on the power points.

She is a great, friendly, and humorous professor. It is an extremely easy class, you just have to make sure to pay attention to he lectures and her exams are all on powerpoints and some lecture. We had two papers due, and she is a very lenient grader. I really recommend her.

I really enjoyed her class because she uses really good examples. There were only 2 test, a paper, and the final. The lecture notes are the only thing students really need to study for the tests. She is funny and a good lecturer.

She is a great teacher who loves what she teaches. There are in class assignments that count for 100 points of your grade, so attendance matters. Her tests are not that easy even if you do study all her lecture notes. Overall her class is entertaining and you will learn a lot. She also grades pretty easy on the papers

This class was so fun and interesting! The notes are easy to follow, the lectures are really intersting, and the assignments are very easy. The tests however, are not easy, be sure you study the notes very thoroughly and pay attention to class lectures. Otherwise, Mrs. Vandervis is really cool! FYI you DON'T need the textbook for this class!

Enjoyed her class.Very interesting. All her tests seem based on in class power points,movies,worksheets,statistics and her stories. Attendance is important in order to catch all the info for her test.She is extremely nice and funny. I took her for winter and did not use book and I passed with an A.

Great teacher, she's super fun and gives information across the board that needs to be taught even if some people feel it conflicted with their beliefs. She could have been a little more strict with some students but overall she was great. No need for the book either, she gives handouts of the notes.

Easy A but she is very passionate about what she does! She explains everything clearly and effectively. Book is not mandatory! Gives two paper assignments and its best to just go to the library and use copy on reserve. Really good passionate teacher! Take her and you won't be sorry!

i loved this class! she is a great prof, makes it fun and easy, theres no way you can fail! hardly any hw, a few writing assignments but she gives plenty of time to do them, shes sweet and gives handouts for the notes which is great, class is a lot of fun and very interesting, highly recommend her!!

Professor Vandervis is sweet and gets straight to the point, and tells you what you need to know on the test. Her discussions are interesting and the time goes by quick..love her class!!!

Good professor, fairly easy, she likes to keep the class engaged, which is a good thing. I took the Marriage and Family course and I came out learning a few things.

This class is a really easy A. I love Marriage and family, and its something i have a passion for; but i really wish she went more in depth with what she taught. But its an easy A.

Professor VanderVis is so outgoing and funny, her lectures are never boring! She always makes class fun. She provides lecture notes which are really helpful to study. Her tests are kinda wordy so be prepared. She assigns 2 essays which are very easy. Overall an easy A, no reason why you shouldn't pass!

Very chill professor. Her exams however were difficult. Make sure you attend class. All of her exams are based on her lectures in class so please pay attention, and write down as much as you can.

Not a difficult class, but you have to study for her exams! The exams are based off the book and her lecture notes. Her two essays aren't hard either. Make sure you always come to class because there are some in class activities that are worth some points. Other than that I highly recommend this class! I learned so much and she's an awesome teacher

I loved her Sociology 1 class, she is so nice and is very clear on the material. Sit there and participate makes the class much better. Love the movies and clips she showed us it helps understand the class better. Take her class you will not regret it.

I loved this class. The prof made the class go by fast. She would tell stories that related to what we were talking about that made the material easier for me to remember. She would use video clips and group discussions to make us think about the material. I enjoyed her teaching style. Exams are tricky so make sure to read the textbook.

I liked the way professor Vandervis taught. She was clear on expectations. Class topics were interesting and class went by fast. I learned a lot about society. Tests are difficult so study. She seems to care about students success.

I took her during the winter, she is a great professor and the lectures are really interesting . Do pay attentions when she shows you videos because she tends to puts some questions about them on the test. During this semester she gives out three tests, the study guides really do help. If you want to get a better understanding get the book

Lectures are off PowerPoints but very interesting! Great facts and knowledge she shares with us. Made the 6am class very fun. Shows a few eye opening movies and gets that critical thinking going on for us. Very sweet professor! 4 exams that are a bit tough, just study and read. Extra credit offered twice and an easy final paper. I'd take again!

She is very nice person and does't take roll. just make sure you get her amazing lecture and review it for exam. 4 exams are not hard if you review her lectures and she will drop one grade. no textbook and homework. 10 small and easy activities. offer extra credits. She is also very funny and easy to understand. She is amazing!!

Great summer class! I took this intro class to get done quicker and transfer. I did not expect to like sociology so much. I missed a few classes and that hurt my grade because there are class activity's. Had I gone to 1 more class I would have got an A. Nice teacher tho. Class went by fast.

Love her, she is so nice really funny. Make sure you go to class because you never know when she's going to do an in class assignment and those are the easiest 10 points you'll ever get. Tests are straight from the lecture. Drops lowest test score! (EVEN THE FINAL if thats your lowest)

Professor Vandervis was an absolute pleasure this semester. Her lectures are very engaging and she makes the subject fun. Be aware of which days you miss class as she has certain days where she will give out an assignment that cannot be made up. Overall, very fun class.

She's great, no worries there. She drops the worst test score, but they really count so make sure you study don't be mislead by how easy it is. No homework really, but she has in class assignments that you have to be there for that really add up. TAKE THE EXTRA CREDIT, in the end it can mean between an A and a B, and she doesn't give a lot.

Easy class and she's funny. Follow the power points and review the book and you'll do great. She drops the lowest test grade. I did great on the first 3 test so I did not have to take the final. Show up to class for those in class assignments. The guy sitting by me complained about showing up. Didn't study or show up that's why you fail! Duh!

I just finished the summer class and it went by fast. we used a FREE online book. teacher was great.

Her tests were all based off of her lectures. There are in-class assignments, but she won't tell you when they are, so attendance is important. The tests were not so hard, so if you study the notes you'll be fine. There is one paper, but it's easy! Honestly if your a sociology major don't take her, it's more of an easy class to just get over with.

I love her lectures! she's very interesting and thorough when it comes to her lectures. She's very kind and humorous. However, you have to study for your exams. There's no study guide or certain format because writes all her exams based on lecture. she'll offer extra credits and have few class discussions.

I took her class during Winter 2018, I took her online and she provides a free online text book, it saved me money. She has 4 exams total, very easy all based off the PowerPoints she provides and the online textbook. We did a total of 10 discussions, easy class if you put in the effort and learn the material. Best part no Essay.

The book was a free online book . There were at least 2 discussions every week (some had 2 parts). She posted videos that we responded to in some discussion posts, other posts were based on the book and power points. I'm shy so I probably would not have contributed that much in a regular class. When I emailed her she responded the same day.

I took this class as an elective. I ended up really liking it. It had a lot to do with relationships, all kinds not just marriage. Tests are hard. You have to read the book and the pp for the tests. You can not miss class bc there are class assignments you can not make up. We used a free online book. It was okay. Her pp do not follow the book.

Professor VanderVis made sociology understandable, and all of the work ties into what she teaches depending on the week that you are on. There were 10 discussion points over 8 weeks, 4 exams, and no quizzes. Also there is some extra credit at the end too. Although the class was a full online course, it did not appear difficult at any time. The Best

Such a great teacher! Easy online class, about 10 discussions & 3 exams! You have to read a lot for this short week course but very easy. Just study really hard and you will pass for sure!

i personally found it easy because i enjoy sociology but most of what u really need to know is on the text book (and her power points too) which she has you read outside of class. It was very time consuming for me and boring,but if you have alot of time in your hands to read long chapters, go ahead! Read, review, study, and its an easy A (:

Online class. Super organized. Professor let me make up an exam that I had missed. She responds quickly to emails, some online professors don't respond at all which is so disappointing. She does use some exam security so students can't cheat on exams so be prepared to actually study. Lots of helpful short videos.

I took this class over summer session. Lots of reading with free online book but straight forward. Everything is clear and easy to follow. I decided to take a long weekend trip and forgot there was an exam and a quiz that week. Emailed the teacher and she let me make them up. Responded to my emails quickly too. Would definitely take again.

Realized that she loves class participation overall great teacher just as long as you pay attention and ask question during class if you are looking to take a professor I would highly recommend Prof. VanderVis

The professor and the lectures are amazing. The only assignments assigned are discussions. The exams is what you need to worry about because it's a split of the notes and the textbook. Overall, it's a good class to take.

Her lectures are great, and she really pushes you to participate, but you don't really have too, but I recommend it. Her stories can go off on tangents, but they are relevant to the topic, and she's very clear when it comes to instructions.

I took this professors online sociology class last semester. It was one of the best online classes I have had. The class was organized with weekly assignments. It was a quiz and either a discussion or a short paper. Every other week there was an exam. I liked that there were online videos with each chapter. I would take this instructor again.

Professor VanderVis made sociology very easy! Her lectures were interesting and she showed videos related to the topics. There were 4 MCQ exams and she drops your lowest score. The exams are based on her lectures which she gives outlines for so just make sure you study! 4 papers (1-2 pgs) and they are mainly about you so pretty easy.

Great Professor, she made class very fun! So sad she is retiring this semester, I would have loved to take other classes with her.
