extremely clear lectures, knows what she's talking about, sense of humor, straight forward manner. couldn't find a better prof for an intro class
Wish I had more teachers like her. She's funny, quirky, intelligent, articulate, organized, and very helpful. Her lectures were thourough and clear. She was always available outside of class. And you rarely feel you're going to fall asleep in class.
Really good teacher. Very clear and funny. The information is alot and she is not easy, but she is always available to help and she makes it possible to understand. She really tries to break the material down. She is awesome. Highly reccomended as far as astro 1 goes!

A totaly bomb teacher. Clear, and willing to help. Fun lecture class, makes it easy for everyone to understand!!!
Extremely helpful very clear and concise. Very freindly. Turn off your cell phone,if it rings in class she will kick you out for the day.If you take good notes you don't really need the book except for maybe word definitions.Great class I highly recommend it!!
She was a great teacher! I tried really hard in the class and did all the assingments and I know I failed the test but she still gave me a B!!! She rocks!
dito to everything everyone here says. She's clear, fun, helpful, nice, etc. Didn't buy the book, just used the library one once in a while for the deffinitions. she's great!
Had I taken another astronomy teacher I dont think I'd be as interested in astronomy as I am now. Not only is Dr. Weil's class easy, it's also interesting. Turn off your cell phone and you'll do fine in that class.
She is great, she is fun and you can tell she likes to teach, she know the material really well and simplifies it so that everyone can understand. She takes the math out of astronomy, she is really good I recomend her.
Excellent teacher. Thoroughly explains complex subject matter in lamens terms. She is very funny. Pay attention in class and it is easy to do well. I feel like she has the answer to the questions of the universe. Take her new class that she created in the fall. It sounds very interesting. Cosmos!! She has great language "for sursies"!!
She is so funny and nice!! i hope that all ccsf instructors just like her!!
She is great teacher that is organized and knows her material.
Wonderful class and teacher. Would take her over again if possible. Projects are fun and meaningful and she's always there to answer questions during or after class. Highly recommend her.
She has the most funkiest hair I've ever seen. Other than that, she is very thorough. I like it.
If you think Todd Rigg is an amazing astr prof, Dr. Weil is god.
Dr. Weil is an amazing teacher, she totally cares about the class and the students in it. She has intresting lectures with lots of jokes and sarcasm. She even spent the time to help me with a bunch of my "what if..." questions.
Yup, I agree, she's the best. The subject is HARD, but she makes it as clear and simple as possible (and is WAY overqualified for CCSF, we're lucky to have her). The midterm and final are curved, which is a life saver.
The teacher is nice, but the class is etremely hard and confusing. If you want an easy A steer very clear from this class
dr. weil is really nice but there's a damn lot of note taking (way too much). she's old fashioned and has a lot of graph drawing. i like todd riggs better for this class, he makes the subject more interesting. weil does curve the tests tho which is great! but there are hw and quizzes every week or so.
tough teacher and yes she gives a lot of work
Dr. Weil is great! You can tell she really enjoys astronomy, and in her class you will to. Not too much reading is necessary if you take good notes in class. There are 5 or 6 quizzes and homeworks, but they aren't bad, and they will really help you understand the class better. This is the first time I seen applause on the last day of class.
She is very interesting. Highly recommended.u will learn tons of things.
Great teacher. You will enjoy the classes.Curves all the grades, and dropps the lowest scores of quizzes. Highly recommended
This is class was so easy. Her lectures are through powerpoint which makes it easy to understand and see. The pictures are cool too. She used to work for NASA, so she really knows what she's talking about. She answers all your questions and every quiz is open note/book. Research projects are in groups-which makes it easier. TAKE HER!
Dr. Weil is FANTASTIC! It is a tough class, but if you show up and take notes on her lectures, you can skip the book. She tests from her lectures mostly. Curved mid-term and final. there were 5 homeworks and 5 open note/book quizes. She is funny and knows her stuff. I learned a lot!
Dr. Weil is fantastic. She makes everything so easy to understand. She is very organized too, and her quizzes and hws are very easy. She is very supportive, and always willing to work w/ students through hard times. Highly recommanded. I would definitely take her other ASTR classes too. She's just great!
She is a really cool and down to earth lady. Astronomy is a difficult subject to conceptualize, very abstract. Weil moved SO quickly through the material I found myself laughing out of disbelief. I really really like her though!
she was so boring and i hated her class, BUT she was SUPER EASY! you can just sign in and leave. if you dont mind staying, just listen to music and copy her notes and you'll be set. there are 5 hws and 5 open notes and book quiz. Final and Midterm? TOTALLY bombed it but still passed.
Awesome teacher, totaly great fully recommend. Grades midterm/final on a curve
She is too cool for school. You wouldn't know it but she worked for NASA, studied at Columbia with the string theory guy, did research at Oxford, and yet she still says "forsurzy". I love her. She really teaches her astronomy class for a social science mind, i.e. little math, comprehensive explanations. I love astronomy because of her. A!
One of my favorite teachers, in fact I'm taking another of her classes just to have her again. SOOO helpful, clear, nice, supportive and fun. Everything is put into terms anyone would understand... The one class I actually enjoyed doing homework for & going to. Midterm, finals, HW and tests easy if you just show up & she has the best haircut ever!
She is a cool lady and a great teacher. I am not that interested in Astr. but she made the class understandable and relatable to non science people. She is very organized, clear, and wants everyone to do well.
she's nice and makes astronomy interesting, dropped in for her office hour for hmwk help, she corrected it and gave me a perfect score. Yes, astronomy is a hard subject, which is why we need to study and read. Over all, she's the best science professor i ever had.... she's very pro, she gave us a lecture outside during a black out w/ no sweat
A very clear, friendly, and knowledgable professor. Dr. Weil's lectures are explained and written on the board very clearly and comprehensively. She takes as many questions as she can to clarify ideas. Thorough note-taking is essential; nearly all homework and exams are based on lectures. The book is needed only for the vocabulary on the homework.
One of the BEST teachers at CCSF for-shursies!!! (if you take her, you'll know what I mean hehe) She was so helpful and made everything crystal clear! Awesome, I'd take her again
This is possibly the most fantastic teacher you will find at CCSF. She's nice, funny, and extremely helpful when you need it. She shows an actual investment in her students and is always available after class to let you pick her brain about random astronomy facts. A+, Dr. Weil!
She really is as cool as everyone says. I am not an Astro or science major but she really does a good job at making this material understandable. My advice: study for open note quizes. I didn't for the 1st and got a 55! I studied for all the rest and aced them. Also, use the tutors. Oh and she says fun things like insta-death and furshurzies!
Professor Weil is a great professor! She really made this class interesting with her energy and excitement! The class isn't the easiest and the textbook isnt used too much for this class. Just take notes and you'll be fine
very funny
Everything people have posted is absolutely right. This is by far the best Astro teacher you can ever take at City. Way better than Gibson.
Dr. Weil is cool. Don't be scared off because she is a Doctor. She is really helpful. She has 5 Homeworks and 5 Quizzes along with a MT and Final. All HW's and Quizzes are out of 100points. Attendance doesn't matter but I needed to go to understand what was going on. The book is complicated and she puts everything in lame terms. Grades on a curve.
Melinda Weil is AWESOME! She comes to class so enthusiastic and ready to teach. You can tell that she really loves being a teacher and loves her students as well. She's extremely open to any questions or help that you may need. If you have the chance, definitely take her class!!!!
she's very nice and funny. You can just sign in and leave. She's strict in a way no cell phone using. I mean, you can use it as long as she doesn't know and don't ever forget to set it silent otherwise she'll kick u out right away from the class. Open book quiz, but the midterm and final are hard!
She's a great teacher. One of the best I had at City. Very inthusiastic in her lectures. She's always available if you need help, and wants you to success in her class. There are 4 quizes open note/book, and 4 homeworks. She give Midterm/Final review questions. Highly recommend!
I read reviews that her class would be easy with no background interest in astronomy. I didn't do well in the class because I didn't really pay attention to the course, but if you put a little effort in this class, I believe you can pass easily. Ms. Weil is a very educated professor, and I recommend her if you're interested in astronomy.
Mrs. Weil is the best Astronomy teacher at City. She explains everything pretty well and her homework is challenging but not hard if you put effort. Her tests are quite easy and she always gives you a review of what to study. Be sure to put some effort and try not to use your cellphone otherwise you'll get kicked out.
Fantastic instructor. Having no prior knowledge of astronomy, I came to love the functions of the cosmos because of how engaging Weil was. Fair tests and very, very forgiving grading style. BEST INSTRUCTOR!
Dr. Weil is the one professor you want to take if you are thinking about Astronomy class. She makes a complex and difficult subject easy to understand. She is also very patient and helpful to all her students. She grades very fairly, if you just pay attention in class, an A is definitely likely. Her passion and sincerity really is genuine.
She is a very nice and funny professor. There is some math in this course but it's brief and she makes it A LOT easier for you. 5HWS and 5Quizes(open book for 15-20 mins), a midterm(graded on a curve, 50% is a "C") and final. Drops lowest score for 1HW and 1Quiz. Welcomes any question you might have and answers in great detail. Highly recommended!
Dr. Weil is by far the best professor I have had at City. I took astronomy for fun not expecting to become more than just casually interested and left her class majoring in astronomy. She makes difficult concepts clear and interesting. Grading is very fair, and with some effort an A is possible. It is very clear that she truly loves her job.
She's AWESOME. Dr. Weil is very fair, extremely organized, and very clear (unlike some professors named Gibson). Take this class. You won't regret it. Just make sure you have your cellphone off.
Kid at heart. She likes to help you as much as she can. Very nice professor. Easy assignments and easy tests! :]
LOVED PROFESSOR WEIL!!!! She was extremely helpful and loves what she does! I withdrew from 2 other astronomy classes and she was the one who teached it the best! Grades on a curve but homeworks and quizzes are really easy. Quizzes are open book, and you have a week to do the homeworks. Don't take anyone else, you are guranteed to do well!
She is simply the best professor I've ever had!!!!!
Tests are pretty hard. Although the homework you can easily ace if you go ask for help from the astronomy tutoring center. Lecture is pretty boring because there is very little visual aids that are presented despite being a astronomy class. She just draws them on the board.
She was completely helpful, answers all your questions. Her lectures were interesting and everything is in PowerPoint. The assignments were HWs, Research Experiments and Quizzes - which is open book. The BEST Teacher in CCSF. She's very strict about your phone making any sounds but aside from that's, she's an approachable teacher. TAKE HER CLASS!
She's way too smart to be teaching here at CCSF! She's been personally involved in groundbreaking studies in the field and we're lucky to have here so take advantage. She's super sweet and wants her students to do well. To no fault of her own she has to speed through lectures as the course is heavy with material that can be difficult to understand.
I'll be the millionth to say it -- BRILLIANT. Entertaining, so organized, enthusiastic, wacky, considerate and mostly passionate. She is incredibly understanding of how hard this class is, and grades accordingly. Never thought I'd like Astronomy so much, but she knows how to explain it so simply and lovely; it's hard not to enjoy it!
Dr. Weil is what a professor should be. She takes an interesting subject and makes it interesting for her students. Super helpful, super smart and she seems to actually care. I could take it twice and still have stuff to learn, there's so much info! Work load is VERY manageable so just take your time and enjoy the material!
I have to say Prof Weil is probably the BEST teacher I've had at city college. She is such a genuine person and truly cares about her students and their success. She is an excellent lecturer and presents information very clearly and keeps it interesting. I wish I could have her again! Overall, AMAZING TEACHER! Highly recommend!!!
Great teacher! You know she genuinely cares that each one of her students succeeds. Everything you need to know is written on the board so be prepared to take a lot of notes! 5 open note/book quizzes, 5 HW assignments; she drops the lowest score of each. Midterm & final are both 25% of your grade.
She was frustrating at first but I grew to really like her. Her teaching style was really clear and she wrote notes on the board which made it really easy to take notes myself. When I emailed her for help towards the end of the semester she was more than accommodating and helped me out so much
she's a great teacher. although i didnt do se well, she tries to help all of her students so they'll pass.
KEEP YOUR PHONE IN SILENT MODE because she will instantly fail you during a quiz/test/final. Always attend to her classes everyday to take notes because it open note quiz. Do your hw and READ your textbook. 5 hws, 5 quizzes, 1 midterm, final is 25% each to your grade. She curves your grade, but then again that's only if class is doing poorly.
DR. WEIL IS AWESOME! DONT LET THE "DR." SCARE YOU OFF!!! SHE REALLY HELPS HER STUDENTS UNDERSTAND AND IS VERY OPEN TO QUESTIONS IF YOU DONT. JUST SHOW UP AND YOU WILL AUTOMATICALLY GET A BETTER GRADE. I JUST SHOWED UP AND TOOK NOTES WHICH SHE WRITES ON THE BOARD SO JUST COPY THEM. AND STUDIED A LITTLE FOR THE TESTS AND I GOT A B+ OVERALL.
STILL ONE OF MY FAVORITE PROFESSORS!! I have taken her twice and both times were so pleasant and awesome. She's fair, clear and helpful. She grades well and she gives you a lot of chances to pass her class. 5 Quizzes, 5 hwks, 1 mid, 1 final and she drops your lowest score in the quizzes and hwks and curves your grade @ the end
One of the best teachers at CCSF, and she is the most considerate teacher that I have known. Quizzes are open book and she curves grades generously. Just put a little effort and you will pass this class. Make sure you turn off your cellphone in class, because she will ask you to leave and in a test day she would forfeit your exam. makes astro easy!
I'm an A student. She is actually one of the best professors I have ever had not just in college. Her class is easy if you're not stupid and she is very clear about the subject. She uses notes more than the book but class is enjoyable. Take her class and you shouldn't be disappointed.
She is a great professor. Makes the subject as easy as possible. It still might be a little difficult for some people who don't like science if you need an A, but pretty easy to pass.
Dr. Weil is a great professor! It's her passion for Astronomy that makes her so wonderful. She gives 5 open-book quizzes, a midterm and final, so its not hard to do well. She's funny and helpful and doesn't take crap from students. Like, if your phone rings you have to leave the room and if you are a dummy and cheat, she will call you out on it.
Astronomy in itself is nowhere near an easy subject however Professor Weil does her best to make the course bearable. Take tons of notes and study hard for final
Just took this class and it was interesting. Ms. Weil clarifies topics in a way almost everyone would understand it. Class is somewhat easy, expect some chemistry stuff to be involved. Open book and notes for quizzes, closed book and notes for midterm and final. Read the chapters before class and overall have fun! Would def. recommend this Ms. Weil
Hate astronomy, but she made it a tolerable subject for me. Barely tried in the class and still passed. Curves the midterm & final (50% is a C). VERY generous about grading and is helpful. Not an easy A, but I'd say an easy pass if you turn your work in.
The Best Astronomy Teacher @ CCSF!
Super clear lectures, very friendly and goofy. Some homework, a few quizzes. Attend lectures and take notes; even if you just copy what she puts on the board, then review it briefly, even if you don't love science, you should be able to succeed.
Great lecture, enthusiastic about material. Clear lectures and makes it easy to understand. She gives out homework about every 2 weeks. The material can be complicated so be sure to listen to the lectures. Nice teacher, laid back about everything except for phone noise and work timeliness.
The class is not easy but Dr. Weil is passionate about what she teaches. She is a great lecturer and wants you to understand and succeed. Study & don't depend on open book/notes to pass your quizzes. Dr. Weil is an awesome professor. Loved her class. I highly recommend taking her class. She is the best.
Very helpful teacher. The class is challenging, but she truly wants you to succeed and is willing to help you do so by allowing make up exams and homework assignments with a valid doctors note. Textbook heavy. Allows open book quizzes which is wonderful. Great Prof.
Melinda Weil is a great professor. What I really liked about her class is her preparedness and predictability. Attendance is mandatory because the quizzes are based on the notes she writes on the board. 5 hw assignments 5 quizzes 1 midterm 1 final (exams graded on a curve) and she drops your lowest quiz and hw grades :)
Dr. Weil really knows her stuff and is wonderfully eccentric. She engages her students very well with her humor, energy and genuine interest in helping people learn. Dr. Weil really wants people to do well, but will not just give As out to anyone. You have to work for it and just try. I would take any class she teaches!
This class is not that easy, the workload is light, however the test are hard if you don't take notes and it is even harder to pay attention in class because it is so boring in there. Also she makes a big deal about cellphone ringing, but for some odd reason her class has the most ringing, beeping, and buzzing out of all my other class.
I skipped her class about half of the semester and I still got a B. She is not easy but not hard. Test and midterm are multiple choice, quizzes are open book and notes, hw is not bad. Drops the lowest hw and quiz. She curves your grade which is awesome. Book is not necessary but you need it if you didn't study for the quiz, all answers are there
This woman's brain is amazing. Melinda you are quite the woman, if there was an award at CCSF for most inspirational, laid back, chill, smart, super cool, best teacher of the year award, I am pretty sure you would take it home. If you read your reviews, then I expect an email from you, I hope I put a smile on your face. The universe is infinite :
Dr. Weil is easily the best professor I've had at City College! She's funny and makes lectures that are already interesting even more so by sharing her own enthusiasm. I really appreciate the way she goes through topics in detail and spends time answering student's questions in class. Take her class, fall in love with astronomy! For realsies ;)
I was always intimidated by Astronomy & didn't think I would succeed in this class. Dr. Weil made it fun & less intimidating. No math calculations, just concepts & knowledge of how to apply the formulas. Absolutely brilliant & gentle in her execution of the material. Use the tutoring services & you will get an A!
Took Prof Weil for Astro 1 and because of her, Astronomy has become my most favorite subject. She's lecture heavy, so if you show up and pay attention, there's literally no way you can fail. For the most part, I've found all the answers to quizzes and tests by going over lecture notes. Would take again
Melinda is awesome! I only rated the difficulty a little high because i had no previous knowledge of astronomy or physics. it definitely would have helped. however i went into this class blind and did fairly well. she has a great personality! be sure to go to class, with out lectures your lost!
Really went in depth in ways that made me rather be there than not.
Incredibly intelligent and she makes the subject easy to understand
Super awesome! Dr. Weil truly wants her students to do well. Come to class and take notes and you should do well. She drops the lowest homework and quiz.
Dr. Weil is such an amazing teacher, she loves what she does. She has inspired me to pursue a career in Astronomy. She gives amazing lectures and notes, but please come to class because those notes will be on the exams. Be on time too since she will start right on the dot! Have questions, feel free to ask, she is more than happy to answer.
She was very good at giving lectures and was able to present the material in a way that was simple but still inspirational and awesome. She has a few quizzes throughout the course and a midterm and a final. All the material in the quizzes and exams comes from the material and the lectures. If you show up to class and pay attention, you'll be ok.
Incredible instructor with a beautiful mind, clear rubric, and grading system. Note-friendly, concepts illustrated exceptionally, and has a lovely sense of humor! Office hours, tutors, and quick email responses make it very reasonable to succeed as long as you are showing up and learning from this inspirational course. Would take it again!
Professor is very helpful. Her enthusiasm is contagious. very clear grading structure with a lot of opportunities to get an A. 35% hw, 35% quiz, 15% cheat sheet midterm, 15% cheat sheet final.
One of the best professors I have ever had. She truly made this class something to look forward to each and every week. See the free tutors and read the book for extra notes! I barely passed this class with the lowest C possible but still loved this class. Spend extra time on the homework! You get one week to do them! Pay close attn to lectures
Professor Weil has been one of my favorite professors at CCSF so far! You can tell that she cares so much about her field and what she teaches, her enthusiasm is infectious. I'm not good at anything to do with numbers, but she had an excellent way of explaining difficult concepts and made it easy to get a good grade if you applied yourself.
What can I say, Prof. Weil is just brilliant! Amazing teacher, amazing human! Do take her class; however, as any science class, it is not an easy "A". My suggestions for success: attend every lecture and take notes, go see Ms. Weil at her office hours if you can't understand smthg, read the book before the lecture, and go see the tutor!!!
The experience was fun, but there was a lot of work involved in a three-unit class. We had between 19-36+ slides to study and a chapter every week. Also, a homework assignment and a 20 question quiz every week. The most amount of work a three-unit class has required of me.
Professor Weil taught this remote semester so well! Her course layout on canvas is extremely organized. She is very kind and really cares about her students. The course work consists of weekly power points, weekly quizzes, and occasional discussion posts but everything is very clear, easy, and understandable. Would highly recommend!
Professor Weil cares about her students and loves teaching Astronomy. I took her class online and while her slides were sometimes very dense, the discussions and quizzes were not necessarily hard. Luckily, she gives you two tries at the quiz. Also make sure to wake up on time to take her midterm/final. Overall, her class is pretty easy.
Definitely recommend for ppl who struggle in science. I am personally bad at science, initially thought I'd dread this class. However, glad to say I was wrong! Weil is very organized &consistent in lectures. Learned a lot from her. No need to get the book, I never rly used it, her notes were enough. Overall, enjoyed it; we even talked about aliens!
Professor Weil is such a sweet teacher! Her class is straightforward and consists of some discussions and weekly quizzes which you get two attempts at, and they're not too difficult. As long as you do well on the MT and Final you're all good bc quizzes and discussions only boost your grade by so much in this class.
this professor always brings a good attitude to class, very helpful and responsive. definitely stay on top of all your quizzes and discussions, study hard for the midterm and final and don't forget word count!!
Quizzes and discussions are the areas that might hurt your grade, but she drops the two lowest scores of each. she gives content slides, but they're p condensed and hard to understand at times (highly highly recommend reading the textbook at the same time). she's very open to answering questions and explains things pretty well.
The real challenge is the midterm and the final. Each is worth 20% of your grade. She has a study guide for both, but they didnt help me enough. No extra credit so if you mess up the midterm and final you wont get an A or possibly even a B. Read through week assignments at beginning of the week so you are prepared. Pretty easy to get a C.
Awful awful teacher. If you don't include something with the assignment, that she never required, she will say that it was missing and she will dock points.
Dr Weil rocks, her class is very good to take. Somewhat difficult if you're not huge on science, but Dr Weil is kind, professional, and very caring for her students. I recommend to study for the midterm and finals though, can be tough. Overall, she was great! Recommend
Professor Wei is one of the best professors at CCSF. With her excellent organized modules and three ways of reminding students of the homework due dates, via email, Canvas pronto, and the announcement. She is thoughtful and understands that many students have a job while taking classes, My current professor is not organized with loaded homework.
I enjoyed the course content. However, teacher acts very caring and concerned about students, yet behaves passive aggressively. Teacher establishes a pattern of grading and work format, and then make unannounced changes that can seriously impact final grade. I don't regret taking the class but would never take class taught by this teacher again.
I would never take another class with this professor. She has the nerve to accuse you of cheating instead of clarifying how you came up with your answer. Second, her grading is not very clear. She is very passive-aggressive. Worse professor ever.
Dr. Weil was an amazing professor, and very knowledgable. Expect quite a bit of reading for the weekly discussions and quizzes, but no required textbook (one is optional but not necessary). Very kind, compassionate, and clear with what is expected. Definitely take a course with Dr. Weil if you can!
She states you don't need a textbook to complete the class but you do because her slides are very confusing. 20-question quiz and a discussion weekly. Her deadlines are at 9pm which made me miss some of the first weeks because I was used to 12am, which drop my grade. You can't exit the browser when you have a test or else you fail the exam, fun!
Lectures were confusing and she stated a textbook was not necessary, which is ABSOLUTELY not the case. Preparing for/taking a quiz without being able to look up hints was awful, and we were emailed a stressful amount to the point that it started to induce anxiety. Passionate, but please pump the breaks and understand the material is challenging.
does not know how to teach, uses meaningless slides with information that has nothing to do with whats on the assignment/quizzes. says textbook is not mandatory but definitely is. Don't take this class unless u like to re-read 5 different times and repeat "what??" to yourself in the head.
Prof. Weil is a deeply knowledgeable, caring, and passionate instructor. Be warned she offers virtually no extra credit and doesn't accept late work.
she is very knowledgeable but is a tough grader, says we dont need the book but we do because her video lectures/slides is very confusing especially when it's time to take the quiz.
She is not a good teacher, her lecture is terrible her test is 90 min long for midterm Instead of helping students she dosen't
Read lecture slides -> do quiz -> write something for the discussion. Repeat for 12 weeks. Easy class, not sure why there's so many negative ratings. Recommend taking this class for the science gen-ed, along with the ASTR 16 lab.
Not a math person, but Professor Weil made everything so easy to understand! Asynchronous, online class; but her videos were more helpful to me than the slides! Gave great feedback and you could tell she really loves what she does!
Incredible, caring professor. Had a personal matter happen, messaged in evening and without missing a beat, had resources available to me and options to make up work. Immediately teared up with relief. She's a great instructor and even better human.
If you only read 1 review let it be this one. Everyone is fooling you, she is ok as a person, a little nerdy but nice i guess. She has no recorded lectures during the whole sem, test determine your grade but she ask questions like you're a astro major that even after studying you wouldn't know. Her grading scale is way off, you have to get 100/100
Professor Weil is passionate about space and gives excellent feedback on discussions. Rent the textbook, as weekly slides miss quiz content. She's strict on grading, so follow instructions carefully. Peer reviews offer easy points to boost your grade. It's not an “easy A,” but with effort and consistent work, you'll pass successfully.
She's super nice. Even though the class is a bit tough, her care for the students is undeniable. She's very responsive to students, and she comes across as a really kind and gentle teacher.
Prof. Weil's ASTR1 class was a pleasant surprise. Though science isn't my strong suit, her engaging lectures and helpful online resources like unstuck ai made the material click. With diligent studying, even a non-math person like me earned a solid grade.
Seems nice at first, but grades super harshly for small stuff like formatting. She says the textbook isn't required, but it is if you actually want to understand the assignments. She'll say “great job” and still take off major points. Also, if you leave the exam page even once, it's a zero. Class was way more stressful than it needed to be for a GE
I never wanted a class to end so bad, the discussions are too long of an assignment, she deducts a lot of your points, says book is not mandatory but trust me you'll need it, it's so draining.
I did not like this class. It was online, I expected it to be great based on my own interest for the subject and the great reviews. But, Ms. Weil is an incredibly tough grader. My friend and I who both took the class found ourselves struggling because of the unclear instructions, and the lack of actual feedback for grading. Would not recommend.
I was nervous about this class, but Dr Weil made Astronomy genuinely fun and exciting! She gives personal feedback on every assignment and makes expectations and grading policies super clear up front. Very responsive if you run into trouble. If you put in the work and ask for help when you need it, you can get a great grade without any stress.
Ms. Weil is a good professor, but her classes are not easy.
was hard on the grading process of it all and when going through family issue she wanted a document excuse on just to get an extension on some work and a lot of the work too a lot of time just to make sure I got the work done the way she would want it
If I could go back and take any class other than this, I WOULD. I try my best on ALL the assignments and she ends up responding with "oops, looks like you missed a few instructions. wait for Answers on Thursday to see detailed answers" She is the absolute worse and has made my life miserable. Mind you I have all A's and took this class for fun.
If you are thinking of taking this class. DON'T unless you wanna ruin your GPA. She doesn't give out correct instructions and she grades you bad because "you missed the instructions". I trusted the other reviews and the fact that she had 4.4/5 but i wish I never did.
DO NOT TAKE HER. IDK WHY SHE HAS A HIGH RATING. SHE IS A STRICT GRADER. RUN THE OTHER WAY.
get away from this person. dont take any of their classes.

i care if my comments get deleted, i bet those nice messages are from the professor themselves. IT needs to go away, stop teaching please.
She is a wonderful teacher navigating teaching difficult material. As long as you do the work, you will pass the class. She is always willing to discuss material with you outside of class, and has always been supportive and encouraging throughout the semester. It is difficult concepts to make relatable and palatable. she is not math heavy!
Degrading Dr.Weil as a human is unprecedented. She is a kind, compassionate, and flexible professor. She is covering very difficult material that can be hard to understand, but she is always willing to work with you. Bullying her won't change anything, working hard in the class will. She has always been extremely kind to me.
Professor Weil is still an incredibly condescending and difficult person as much as she is passionate and enthusiastic about astronomy. Two things can be true at once. Complaining about Weil doesn't mean that you havent "worked hard enough" bc I definitely have.Shes super unforgiving with late work and made this class harder than it shouldve been.
uhm if you are thinking of taking this professor, think again. Don't be fooled by the comments/ratings that are adoring and lic.kng her every step on the floor. Coming from an A student, this GE req. class does not need to be this hard.
bro, everyone is fighting up in here. Anyway, what to expect. Everything is 100 points. ∞announcements. Poor grading criteria/lecture/feedback. Gets mad if you want to start early on your assignments. Disgustingly long discussion posts. She claims to be doing her best but is reusing old videos. Very rude and unprofessional replies when she grades.
