Great professor. She encourages critical thinking and provides excellent feedback on postings and writing. Her grading is fair and she is extremely responsive to questions and postings. The course seems very time consuming, but it isn't. She takes great effort to ensure the student understands the subject. Definitely would take her class again!
She is very passionate about History. dB's are essay form with a question from her at the end of the week on each one. Only one test and that is the final with two short papers. Lot's of reading.
Super hot and smart as well
This Professor is an absolute Gem. She is great to communicate with. Expects high work output and quality, but gives rewarding grades in return. I would highly recommend her. I actually asked her if she was teaching my next class. Unfortunately she was not. Highly recommend.
Awesome prof. Highly recommend. Stick to the work and you will get a high grade.
grades based on stuff she doesn't tell you she requires.
Very tough class! Forum discussion with 3 follow ups, plus a follow up to your previous forum post. 2 essays, and a 4 short essay final.
SHE's RIDICULOUS!! Don't expect fair here! Not quite sure what her issues are but there's issues! Her grading is not even close to fair. If she teaches any other classes...steer clear
Awesome teacher! She really cares about History. Assignments are ok. Not that bad. Pretty typical for APUS clases.
This is a REALLY fun class. Each week you study a diff battle. Prof Zupon gives u the chance to be creative and learn at the same time. Pretty cool.
this was my LAST class at AMU. It was awesome. There is a lot of work- you have a proposal- Bibliography and 25 page paper- but its a capstone class so its required. Prof Zupon was very helpful with comments & suggestions.
Super hot professor. she's a reenactor and really cares about History. I could care less before this class about history but she makes it really fun. 2 short papers and weekly forums. Not too bad.
Professor Zupon requires double the work compaired to other AMU professors. Initial post, three responses, and a follow up to the previous initial post each week. In addition, there are two short papers and a final. If you keep up with the work it is doable, but tough. You will work hard for your good grade.
Professor Z's assignments are the same as other 101 classes- a main post 3 interactions and a follow up. It's a APUS requirement so ? 2 short papers and a final. No big deal. Pretty standard. Interesting class.
Despite me hating History I really enjoyed this class and learned alot. Professor M gives you a lot of choices of topics for the forums and all the assignments have a traditional or creative topic. I really liked writing as a character. Very cool.
Very complicated instructions, she lists the requirements for each assignment in numerous different places and they are vague at best. 4 small papers instead of 1 or 2 large ones. 2 forums per week plus 3 responses. Might consider taking another course with her, if I have to.
This class was the best I've taken at AMU. 4 small essays which are SO much better than large thesis papers. A weekly forum with 4 posts and you even get to be creative in your posts. Read the pdf instructions in the assignments! She spells out everything that is needed.
Professor M is the best i have taken at AMU. Email her questions, email her assignments, etc. She is VERY helpful. I was really confused at 1st but she was very helpful and I ended up with a great grade.
I totally loved this class. The text was interesting. The forums were actually fun. Plus Professor M loves History. You don't find that in many classes.
This was a great class. Plenty of reading and posts each week. Every single email I sent was responded to very quickly and grades were posted extremely fast. Great class and I have no real complaints at all. I would not hesitate to take another one of her classes.
Difficult instructions, a lot of extra work and her comments are very vague when seeing grade report. I am not enthusiastic about this instructor. For it being a 101 course, this was certainly not at a 100 level, but more difficult than several 200 and 300's I have taken.
Great class. I really enjoyed it. Professor M didn't design this class she just teaches it. But she includes very detailed instructions and was very helpful when I had questions. Planning on taking her upper level classes too.
I have taken many online courses. She requires an initial post plus 3 responses. Normal is to post to 2, I have not problem with that part of it. It is the part that she does not inform you on all of the parts that she does not grade you on. This course is very hard. IF you can avoid her. Stay away
Great class. Ask questions. I had a problem with the requirements. 101 has 3 posts to students each week. I asked and Professor M was very helpful. It you don't ask questions and fail it's your fault. I loved the class.
Great class. Interesting topics and papers.
Class was super fun. I strugled at 1st then Professor M was really helpful. I learned a lot.
This class was great. I really enjoyed the topics and weekly battle studies. Professor M was really helpful and great to work with.
This was a fun class. You look at diff Colonial societies each week. I was alittle confused at 1st but Professor M was really helpful and I enjoyed the class. Plus no textbook!
decent amount of writing but very fair grader. easy to understand class structure. take t=her class
This was a great class. It movs quickly but I learned lot. Professor is super helpful and grades fairly.
This class was awesome. I really enjoyed it. Prof Z was involved very week and answered questions quickly even if she was out doing a battle reenactment.
I loved this class! I learned so much more than just teh regular post from the book classes. Professor M was helpful and answered question quickly. I would take a class with her again.
Class was more of a 300 class and not a 101. She makes you go back to the previous week to answer a follow-up question after that grading period already closes. A LOT of writing, some not even worth the points. Not matter what you will never get the Chicago style paper down. This is my first time writing a review so that should tell you something.
This course is not a 100 level course, it is higher. Her comments after grading are very vague and her consistent gig for taking points away is, not enough historical analysis. She never explained what enough historical analysis was! She once asked for a follow-up question to explain it "in my opinion" and then took points for not citing sources.
This class was great. Not too much work. PRofessor was very helpful. I emailed her my assignmens ahead of time and e was really helpful in what I needed to do to get an passing grade.
Professor M was great. Very helpful and easy to talk to. Loved the class
I turned in a forum and she said it was to short and need to be 250-300 words I copied and pasted my form on blank word doc and there was 316 words. She doesn't explain what needs to be done and by far the worst professor I have ever had. Do not take a class with her. Seems like she is only there for a pay check and not to teach
Assignments are very clear. 250-300 words does not count citations. PRofessor M is very clear with instructors. Best teacher I have had. Great.
Professor Zupon was great. Very clear and helpful. Super instructions. If you have a question- just ask. She will answer very quicky. Teacher love History and shares that with students.
101 is not professor M's class. She has to teach what someone else set up. Take her upper level classes which she came up with herself. I loved those classes but 101 I hated. I've taken 3 classes with her and the upper levels were def beter. Whoever came up with the 101 assignments?
EAsy class. Fun. Clear instructions. If you haev questions ask. Teacher provides good feedback.
enjoyed class. Teacher is very helpful, but she should clarify assignments better and put all information together in one spot.. She was a great teacher. Grading was tough but fair and she held you to writing standards that all college level student should be held too. I feel like she gave me a better grade then i deserved.
Great class. I really enjoyed it. Got an A. Professor Was really helpful.
Great class. I really enjoyed it. Fun assignments.
I enjoyed the class. Clear instructions and grading. She keeps to the APUS policies so its fair tio everyone.
Very inconsistent grader.
Be prepared to work for eight weeks. Being military I only take one class at a time but her class is consuming. This is not a brief in and out an hour or two a week. You really have to put forth the effort if you want to succeed and get an A. Even though I felt like pulling my hair out at times, I retained the most knowledge from her
Good class, set up differently than others, but it kept it interesting. Sometimes things were not quite as clear as instructor thinks they are, but overall, pretty good. Even though there are no long research papers, there is plenty of writing. No final which is a little odd( and nice). Offers creative options for many assignments.
This class was difficult and Professor M was all over the board with grading! She also is very vague with comments and grading and does not have the student's best interest in mind. I would never take a class with her again!
Melinda Zupon: Rude. Tough grader. Unclear grader. Docks points for "bad grammar", then uses awful grammar in her own posts. Not understanding. Not lenient. I would NEVER take another class by her, and would not recommend her.
The class has a unique structure, including creative options for some assignments. She is a stickler for length and hammers away at it repeatedly. Weirdly, she asks a followup question before you even make your post, which comes across as abrupt and rude. Not nearly as clear with directions as she believes she is.
Great class. I learned alot. Not sure what the others are complaining about. It's college. You have to WORK. Get over it.
I really enjoyed the class. Learned alot. Got a good grade.
Great interesting class. Teacher really helpful.
Sorry but I had to laugh at the rude bec she posts questions. It is guiding questions not follow ups. And bec people never post until Sunday when it is due she posts them early. I enjoyed her class and would take more with her. Great system.
Great Professor - initial commentary can be a bit facetious - but given the students I see from time to time, it is understandable. Liked her enough to take the same Professor for MILH 320 course as well.
Great class. I learned alot and I feel like this class helped to set me up for the rest of the classes at APUS. Great teacher. Very helpful.
Great class. I learned alot. Very helpful. Would take this professor again.
Tough grader - When you finally get your grade anyway. Sometimes you have to wait weeks. Currently have an F until she uploads 2 weeks worth of grades. Instructions - Some of her instructions are vague and you have to wait until others post to figure out what she wants.
Really tough grader and not very clear on instructions or what exactly she wants posted in her forums. There are no tests, but three lengthy assignments. If you're a history major, I would recommend her, if you're not then just stay away. Be prepared for a lot of typing and citing every little detail of your posts. She does respond to questions
Great class. Really enjoyed it/. Learned alot
I had to tke this class. But It was really fun and I learned alot.
Great class. Good instructions and clear grading rubric. I would def take her classes again.
I thought that the class was very well presented and easily understood all instructions. There was some confusion in the forum post for week 1. However, it was my error for not completely reading the syllabus. Awesome professor and class.
Great class, exceptional teacher, learned a lot.
She is inconsistent with her grading, she makes the same incorrect grammar mistakes as the students does. She truly VAGUE with her assignments. Please avoid this instructor, she is far from a professor.
Great class, caring professor.
Great class. Learned a lot. Respected teacher. She really knows her stuff.
Wonderful class. Learned a lot. Clear grading and directions. Best professor at AMU.
Great class. Fun. Interesting. Great textbook.
Great class. Really enjoyed how it is set up. The Professor was very interesting. Loved it.
You can tell that she has a passion for history. Really enjoys sharing her knowledge of history. Best use of the forum postings I have come across yet. Really enjoyable class.
Professor M is a tough grader not just on the course material but also formatting, and punctuation in papers. To me, that is a good thing because she pointed on things that I can and will be more aware of in the future. Overall, this was an interesting and enjoyable course, even if I had to work a little harder. I would take her classes again.
Great class. I hate History but I enjoyed the class. The Professor always answered my questions and took the time to listen to any issue I had.
Very unclear in criteria for assignments. Does not read forum posts, merely asks random questions. Terrible experience, will not ever take a class with Zupton, again.
tough but fair. you will read a lot, and you are expected to expand your own horizons. don't expect a lead-around in any lecture.
Professor Zupon is my least favorite at APUS thus far. She is NOT clear on what she is looking for or grading on in forums or assignments. Even when you ask questions, her answers are so vague. Want to work ahead? Don't even think about it. Your grade will suffer and she will say it is YOUR fault for not waiting for additional directions.
You learn a lot throughout this course, however, if you go into it expecting it to be easy be ready to fail. Tough grader; you can put 20+ hours into an essay, use the wrong formatting, and lose 20% off the bat. I learned a lot but for the sake of my GPA will never take another class through her again.
Great class. Great professor. she is so great I will def take her class again and stick with APUS.
Professor Zupon is a gem to have at APUS. Great class. Learned alot.
Great 1st class at APUS. Can't wait to take more with Professor M
Not sure if I signed up for a History class or English. She has provided zero history information but a ton of writing criticism. No matrix. No direction. No real benefit to taking a class with her. Avoid at all cost!
Honestly the best professor I have had at APUS. Clear grading. Clear feedback. The best!
Great teacher. Loved the class.
Really enjoyed this class. Teacher was really helpful in not only improving my writing but also historic analysis.
If you do the work- you get a good grade. The professor is very clear with directions and gives extra help if you ask. Great professor. Would def take a class with her again.
Great class. I learned alot and had fun. Great professor.
Loved this class. Esp the creative options. I hate History but I loved this class and professor.
Professor was easy to work with. Cared about me and my classwork. Would def take a class with her again.
My 1st class. I was nervous. But the classroom is entirely open. So you can work ahead. Professor was great to look over assignments and give helpful hints. Would def take a class with her again.
Colonial America. Boring right? Not with Professor M. She was great to work with and I learned a lot.
Everything is open. Clear directions. Professor will look over assignments before they are due to give you hints on how to improve. Who does that? Professor M does. Great to work with. Def take any of her classes again.
Let me preface this with I already have a Bachelor's degree from a top school in the US. This is the hardest 100 level class I've had. Grading is super hard and focused on writing, not history. Her responses to your forum are cut and paste. If you care about your grade or sanity, DO NOT TAKE HER.
Does not respond to messages in a timely manor. After not understanding the material, and after asking for help she only repeats herself on where to find material on how to "Cite" properly. Worst instructor I have ever had. I do the same thing in my other class and other instructor helps me to understand.
There is a lot of reading, history is one of those where reading is required. You will have three or four short papers. The finial is a timeline that was pretty easy. An easy A is you do your work.
This instructor's teaching style consists in copy and paste comments and poor feedback. In her lectures, more space was dedicated to the way settlers dressed than the origin of slavery. No wonder that there are still so many racial issues in this country if in a college-level history class, these are the priorities. Lowest quality at APUS.
Weekly lessons are wrought with copy & pasted texts and grammatical errors. Weekly post critiques revolve around citation format and not content. Not flexible and easily offended. She Does Revolutionary War Live action role playing and will cite her fellow reinactors. I never bumped heads with her but she is surprisingly unprofessional.
Second class with Zupon and will be my last. I am a straight-A student and prefer classes that are challenging, but with fair professors - this class was offered neither. Zupon gives minimal perfunctory feedback, is barely present in the class, grades only on mechanics of writing and nothing on content. She has no grasp of subject. HORRIBLE. AVOID
I am third year student, straight A, multiple honor societies and Dean's List. Zupon is the worst professor at APUS. Class is not a university level class, content is scarce, horribly presented, and juvenile. Zupon's grading is not on material content, just focused on citations, and is not readily available to students. AVOID AT ALL COST! A WASTE!
Professor M was great. Easy class. Helpful. Gets back to you quickly with answers. I loved the entire class.
Great class. I hate History but I really enjoyed the class. I feel like if you put in the work you get the good grade. If you slack off you won't pass.
I loved this class. Easy to follow. Easy to understand. The professor got right back to me with any question.
I'm not sure what class these other reviewers took but maybe they were just having a bad day. I took several classes with professor M and always got great results. I'm not sure what a "Revolutionary War Live action role playing" is but the professor does reenacting. She shares it as a love of History not quoting reenactors as sources.
Some of these other reviewers must be the straight A snowflakes you see sometimes. Teachers give them A's just bec they don't want to grade. I enjoyed all 3 of the classes I took with Professor M.
Great class.
Answers email quickly. Not sure what some of these people are expecting but writing is important and I appreciated the professor helping me with not only content but writing.
Poor feedback " More substantial post"
She called herself a professor, but her attitude is just like a grumpy old high school teacher. Not clear on her grading criteria, she always based her grading and quality of work on the number of citations. Lots and lots of homework every week. Beware of this so-called university professor. I Will definitely avoid all her classes at all costs.
DO NOT waste your time by taking her class. She is horrible and she should not choose teaching as her career. She killed students by her grading, comments are not clear. This is a history class not a English class. She keeps telling me lack of history information even I researched a lots and write a long paragraph. I was not born in 1800 so please!
I cannot call her a professor because she just wants to put pressure on students by grading. I always get straight A's in every class. Avoid her class if you want to save your GPA and money. If students are understand history then they dont need to come to school. As a professor, she should focus on teaching than find mistakes from students.
I'm not gonna get into my experience, but she just doesn't understand how to work with her students. If you want a robot that thinks she's an English teacher with bad communication skills here's your professor.
Do yourself a favor Do not take clasess from this person. She is not a professor. You will not learn anything nor teach you anything. GROSS!!
Avoid her class if you want to save your GPA. Cannot call her a professor because she did not teach anything. I would go to the other school to take His101. This is just a basic history but seem like I study the advanced hist. The worst class I ever taken. I always get A and B for every class but for this class I have no hope. SILLY professor!
This professor is the hardest 100 level teacher I have ever seen. You can spend hours on your paper or your discussion posts but if you misspell a few words or do not cite to her specific liking (Which she does not make clear until after she grades.) you will automatically be knocked down 5, 10, 15 points etc. I fought pretty hard for my grade
This teacher was the best I've had at AMU. Very responsive to emails. Flexible with issues.
Great class. #4 with Professor M and I'd take more if I could.
Online classes are hard for some people. I found Professor M's classes to be great. They really prepared me for my next class. I felt my writing and researching really improved.
Great class. Good teacher. Ready to take more classes.
I admit I was struggling with class. This was my 1st online college class. But instead of just failing I reached out to the Professor. She was really helped in getting me back on track. And I enjoyed the class.
I've felt like some of my teachers at APU just give out grades without even looking at my work. I'm not here to just pay $ and get an A. I want to learn. Professor M really helped me with that. I learned alot and hope to take a class with her again.
I think some people lost it over the pandemic. I can't believe some of these reviews. Grammar/ spelling and research are not important? It's a History class. What did you expect? I liked the class. I enjoyed the Professor. Would take again.
Inconsistent with grading criteria, unclear about curriculum. She can't make her mind up. Very frustrating.
The teacher was great. Easy class. Would def take again.
The class was organized. I loved the assignments. Teacher got back to emails really quick.
The teacher was extremely helpful. This was my 1st college class and I had a hard time. But she really helped. And I feel like I can handle more classes now. Great school.
Class was great. Everything was graded quickly. 2 papers. Weekly posts. It was a lot but manageable. It liked it. Would take more classes with the professor. Answered emails quickly.
10/10
Worst experience ever. There is 2 short essays each week while responding to your classmates. There is also A writing assignment and a final exam with 4 questions in the form of essays. The final week had 4 assignments due. 2 you could not do in advanced and one was completely irrelevant. My final week was Christmas. Would not recommend to anyone.
This was by far the worst instructor I have ever had after 3 years of courses at two different colleges. She was extremely unclear on grading requirements, graded inconsistently, and refused to answer questions regarding grading requirements and paper submissions. Don't take the chance on failing a class because of this poor instructor.
The class had a lot of assignments, but the professor did a great job of providing feedback and support. Unstuck ai was a helpful study tool alongside the textbook.
no feedback, late grading, and not helpful with questions. recommend finding a different professor
Way to much course load, expects 1000 word eassys on discussion board. Requires 3-4 cited sources, even for discussion board answers.
If you want to lower your GPA, this is the professor for you! The course itself is easy, but the professor grades far too harshly and makes it nearly impossible to earn an A. Even when I reached out for feedback before submitting an assignment, I still received a ridiculously low grade. RUN, RUN, RUN!
I wish I was graded on the material of the class rather than using page breaks for cover pages. This really isn't much of history class, it was a English class. I got a C+ solely because minor grammatical errors, which she docked me 15+ points on per paper. Has unrealistic grading standards, doesn't listen to her own feedback. CHANGE PROFESSORS!!!!
"Great online class! Prof. M organized everything so clearly – weekly modules were easy to follow, and expectations were always laid out ahead of time. The readings were actually interesting, and the discussion posts helped me understand the material better. Grading was fair and feedback was thoughtful. Would definitely take another class.
"Professor M made the class super manageable. No lectures, but the materials provided (readings, short videos, and primary sources) were engaging and not overwhelming. The assignments really helped reinforce the content, and Prof. M was quick to respond to questions. If you're looking for a well-run online class, this is it."
No Zooms, no lectures – and yet, one of the most organized classes I've taken. Prof. M made the material engaging through articles and videos. Weekly assignments kept me on track, and grading was always prompt. Would recommend if you like working at your own pace but with clear structure.
Loved this class! Professor M made history interesting even without lectures. The course was 100% online and asynchronous, which worked great with my schedule. Readings were relevant, and the discussion boards actually felt like real conversations. A+ experience!
If you're looking for a solid online history class, take Professor M. Very fair grader, and the work is spread out in a way that avoids last-minute stress. There are no live sessions, but everything is explained clearly in weekly announcements and assignment instructions. Would take again!
Professor M is great for online learners. The course was very self-paced, and she provided all the resources you need to succeed. Clear rubrics, straightforward assignments, and always available. You can tell she cares about students doing well.
Professor M made History 101 enjoyable and stress-free. No busywork, just thoughtful assignments and great supplemental videos. She's very responsive and gives detailed feedback on essays. This class improved my writing and understanding of historical thinking.
Honestly one of the best online classes I've taken. Super easy to follow, no lectures, and everything is laid out clearly week by week. Professor was chill, responded quickly to questions, and grading was fair. Would 100% take another class with her.
Great class if you like to work on your own schedule. No Zooms, no weird tech stuff — just readings, videos, and weekly assignments. Prof was super organized and actually cared about our work. Easy A if you stay on top of things.
This class was so chill. No lectures to sit through, just clear weekly modules. Assignments were spaced out and made sense. Professor was super helpful when I had questions. Honestly wish more online classes were like this.
Really solid online class. Not too hard but not a blow-off either. Just do the readings and participate in the discussions. Prof is nice and grades fast. I was able to balance this with a full-time job no problem.
Always wanted more historical analysis but wasn't ever sure how to achieve that. She could never answer my questions on how to do that. I did end up with an A but it was very stressful.
Professor Zupon's HIST 101 class was excellent. She's a great instructor—engaging and clear in her lectures. She responds to emails quickly and is very approachable if you need help. Grading is fair and transparent, and she genuinely wants her students to succeed. Highly recommend taking this class with her!
MILH 320 is a really interesting and informative class. The material is engaging, and you'll learn a lot about military history and strategy. The professor is very helpful and supportive—always willing to answer questions and provide guidance. If you're interested in military history, this course is definitely worth taking.
Professor Zupon's HIST 402: Colonial America was a great class. The content was informative and presented in a way that kept things interesting throughout the semester. Professor Zupon was very helpful and approachable—always willing to clarify material and support students. Highly recommend this course.
HIST 101 with Professor M was a really good class. It was super interesting, and the online format made it pretty easy to keep up with everything. Professor M was really helpful and quick to respond if you had any questions. Definitely a good pick if you need a history class.
Professor M's HIST 101 was a great class, especially for an online course. The material was interesting, and the workload was really manageable. Professor M is super approachable and genuinely cares about students. I'd definitely recommend this class if you're looking for an easy and engaging way to knock out a history credit.
