SHE CARES SO MUCH SHES AS RARE AS A UNICORN
Melis Gedik may just be one of the best profs you'll ever have. She goes out of her way to help out as many students as possible, and her notes are very clear and concise. She posts tons of practice problems, as well as sample midterms and exams. Take this class, you will not regret it
By far the best chem prof I have had. I have never had a prof who wants each student to succeed and cares so much about everyone of us. She goes out of her way to help us outside of class with her flexible office hours and replies with super detailed e-mail explanations outside of work hours. There's not enough space to say all the good things.
Literally the most amazing prof you will ever have. She cares so much about her students and goes above and beyond to ensure her students are succeeding I cant say enough about how amazing she is
Dr. Gedik is easily one of the best profs I have ever had. Chem 102 is very math-based and not always interesting but she makes her notes simple, easy to follow, does lots of example questions in class and always makes herself available for help sessions. She's also super nice and approachable!
Easily the most caring and dedicated instructor I've ever had here. She goes out of her way to make sure that her students are getting what they need to succeed. Genuinely awesome professor and person. 10/10 recommend.
Seriously, BEST prof I have ever had!!! She truly cares for her students and she is very passionate about her field. Her notes may look intimidating at first but they make sense when you review them in your own pace. If you struggle, use her office hours. She's super helpful and she is not "judging" if you do not understand or are behind.
Melis is one of the best profs I've ever had. She truly cares about the wellbeing of all her students and even makes the effort to learn names. Office hours are great, and she really wants everyone to succeed in her class. If you have her for 102, you are in LUCK! Final was straightforward and she gave bonus marks too! Melis is the best. Hands down
amazing! She is so easy to approach and she cares about her students. she posts a plenty of resources online to help you out. The course itself is a lot of content though. I wouldn't have taken it if I didn't have to. Exams were more than fair. They are easy as long as you go through her lecture notes and practice exams.
The best prof in the chem department. she should teach every lecture. She really cares about teaching and her students, if you have any interest in chemistry at all, take this course with Dr. Gedik!!
Dr. Gedik is the best prof I had all term. The way she spoke to me and other students really made it seem like she wanted us to actually do well, and didnt just say that as empty words.
Dr Gedik is extremely dedicated, caring, and wants the best for her students! I would not have gotten through chem102 without a prof like her. Highly, highly, highly recommend her if you need to take chem!
SO GOOD! The course design and lectures are clear and well-organized. It's so nice to be able to prepare for a midterm/final with a clear idea of what you need to know. Very fair and well-organized. Unlike some profs, actually ENJOYS teaching and it shows! A HUGE asset to the U of A.
I cannot do Dr. Gedik's lectures justice using mere words--her chemistry class was just that AWESOME! I have never met a professor that was so passionate, caring, and approachable. She is patient with questions, creates and uploads comprehensive notes, and creates exam questions that are more than fair :) Also her shoes are so fire they need WHMIS
Am I the only one that finds her attractive??
So amazing! I love Melis! She is such a gem, so nice and really wants her students to succeed. The class is pretty hard but she offers so much support and is very good at explaining tough concepts. AND SHE GIVES HELP WITH THE LAB! Only criticism is that her notes can be a bit disorganized.
Dr. Gedik was very active on eclass and through emails, she provided lots of practice material and also had tip sheets for the lab.
Sweet, extremely caring, and has a love/passion for teaching. Notes are a bit messy (Label each lecture #/date them/page numbers cause if they're out of order... have fun!) but filled with examples and tries to really break down why/how/what something is. While her teaching style didn't click with me, her personality and helpfulness is gold.
Basically had to teach myself the whole course. She talks vs teaches and personally, I didn't find skipping class harmful because I would teach myself anyways. Her booklets are good though. Online quizzes had time limits and they def weren't enough. She's fine overall I guess.
Lectures are important to go to
that final was harder than a math olympiad
She's caring and sweet. She genuinely cares about her students. However, her lectures were useless. You have to teach yourself basically everything using the textbook. And huge problem - she made the midterm too easy. Then, to correct the curve, she made the final ridiculously difficult. It was unfair, too long, and didn't resemble problem sets.
She's super caring and nice but as a prof her notes were very vague and didn't make sense her midterm was really easy like the practice but because of that she made the final insanely difficult to "fix the curve". You had to teach yourself everything in the end as her notes and lecture were super vague.
class is hard. do all problems set and go through notes really well. prof is really willing to help and i'd recommend going to office hours as soon as you're confused because the lectures will just keep piling on more content. final was much harder then practice final so make sure you really understand everything.
Melis was great in that she was very open and caring and willing to accommodate students. However, her notes where at times not enough (textbook is a must!). You can do well if you constantly practice and see her to discuss theory concepts that she tends to gloss over in class due to time constraint. Provides notes online as well as practice Q"s!
She's an incredible person & prof! Yes, the final was on the hard side but mostly b/c of diff expectations. The course also goes at a faster pace after the midterm. Don't need the txt bk at all--great problem sets & notes. She's as approachable as a person could ever be. I was all over the place in the final but still managed to pull through.
Dr. Gedik is one of the most prepared professors at UofA and very knowledgeable. Her final exam was tough but our class average was almost 75 before the final which justifies the difficulty of the exam. Her answers to emails are very detailed and going to office hours really helped if I was confused. She also posts all the lecture notes.
One of the best profs I've had so far! She really cares about how well you are doing, and if you are understanding the material. Always asks for feedback on her teaching, and gives feedback to you. A real gem!
Dr. Gedik was hands down the best prof Ive had in my 2 years so far. She was so caring and really took the time to answer everyones questions- she even encouraged everyone to ask. She gave feedback after both midterms on what we could improve on. I dont even like chem and I would take another chem course with her.
Best professor I have had in my 4 years of University, I wish she taught all the classes I took.
Melis was an amazing prof. This class is not easy, but she made it better. She is extremely accessible outside of class, and her office hours are a huge help if you are struggling. The midterm and quizzes are difficult but also fair... just make sure to do the problem sets and understand the concepts behind everything. I would recommend Melis.
Melis was phenomenal! She made a class I was scared to take very enjoyable. Melis answered emails quickly, was super friendly and helpful during office hours, and always has a smile on her face. She will NEVER make you feel stupid for asking a question, and is EXTREMELY well prepared. She prepares you well for all tests and quizzes. 10/10 prof!
Melis, tends to believe that everything in the class is just review from chemistry 30 in high school. Due to this she tends to skip over a lot of basic concepts, that are crucial to the rest of the course. She goes quickly through her lectures, not allowing you much time to think of what is happening or understand. Watch out for quizzes
Dr. Gedik is a beauty. Love love love her. 10/10 take her for any chem course!
Honestly just average. She doesn't make it too easy on her students, not too hard either. Nothing that is outstanding about her teaching method.
Good prof if you're comfortable with chemistry. Tends to go a little fast and uses the "you did this in highschool" to skip some topics. Posts lots of review though so you can catch up Very accessible outside of class. Office hours can get really busy. Very nice lady and does her best to teach well. Takes feedback. Solid choice for a professor.
She is a truly amazing person who really cares. this is a tough course however if you really put in the time she is willing to help you all the way through. very accessible in offices hours and will treat you with respect ( a trait lacking in some other profs). I loved her conference style office hours to just go listen and help understand.
very nice person and prof, puts in the time to make you understand (extensive office hours and review sessions before tests). hard course but she makes you feel like you actually understand, not just know how to do practice questions. Goes fast but provides additional resources if you need more review.
Hands down best prof ever. Posts perfect skeleton and completed lecture notes that are well organized and perfectly clear. Tons of problem sets/quizzes/summary sheets posted. She gives you everything you need to succeed plus some. Way too happy to be teaching chem, super clear explanations, wants every person to like chem and much as her. 11/10
Lots of practice questions, easy midterm, tough final. Don't like how her notes are organized
Dr Gedik was an amazing prof. Her lectures are fantastic and made so much sense. The actual class is incredibly hard and takes a lot of work but Dr Gedik greatly helps with the difficulty being less
Overall an okay lecturer (not amazing but better than anyone else teaching this course). Tends to rush on some topics claiming that the material has already been covered or is trying save time for jeopardy games which werent really all that helpful bc they were also rushed. Does really care about students and is helpful outside of class .
Best prof in my first year! Super caring and accessible outside classes. She wants her students to succeed so there are lots practice problems for quiz, midterm and final. Understand the concept for each type of problems and youll do well in this class.
She was very friendly and caring towards students. She knows how to teach well and is very well organized. She does activities outside of the norm for profs like jeopardy which is really nice. The class is engaging. She is open to help even if she has to take time out of her schedule to do so. Her exams are fair and her practice is helpful.
What a lovely professor. She has tons of office hours, three times a week (over an hour each), plus you can book 1 on 1 time with her. Her Eclass page is exceptionally organized, she gives tons of practice questions and all her quizzes and tests are reasonable. Honestly, I cannot say better things about a professor. She deserves a teaching award.
Took the spring semester so we were rushed. She did her best to make sure we passed, she gave us practice exams and problem sets and in her note packages she gave ample examples and extra textbook problems if we had time. She was always available to answer questions and she was great at explaining any question a student had. Amazing professor.
Melis is a great prof, detailed slides and gives great in depth explanations, and to top it off, is an easy marker, even though the exams are already easy
Dr. Gedik is very nice but her lectures are very vague and she goes very fast. Her handouts are not very organized and hard to follow. I usually had to make my one notes from the textbook. Online quizzes were fair and a good chance to boost grades. She is great one on one but I think its ineffective to teach such a difficult course to 200 people
Melis is so awesome! Truly cares about her student's success and really loves teaching. She always gives bonus marks on tests and for one of our quizzes allowed us to take it home and correct our errors for extra credit. The best Chem prof ever, try to get her for 101 and 102 and you'll thank me!
Melis is really good and caring but her notes are good for reviewing only. she has this idea that you already know the background of all the topics so she'll jump into examples. you'll be lost in her class if you don't prepare beforehand.
Dr. Gedik was an outstanding professor! I found that her explanations for 90% of studied material was explained amazingly well during lecture. She also had much more accessible and available office hours than my other profs. During lecture, she was very enthusiastic and energetic making lecture fun. Totally recommend her for 1st year students!
Gedik rushed through important topics in lectures and often made mistakes in problem sets. Would not reccommend attending class because she just recites the textbook. She did give lots of questions to practice and the tests were very fair. Overall, she knew her material, but was unable to simplify topics and found her to be very mediocre.
one of the MOST caring and diligent profs i have ever had! she genuinely cares and spends so much time on classwork and marking OUTSIDE of her working hours. so fair and gracious and she is just an absolute gem of a person.
I love Dr. Gedik. She carried me after failing the midterm. Such a caring, approachable prof who genuinely wants to help you. She does give lots of problem sets and questions but only for your own benefit (do them all if you want to succeed). I wouldn't have known it was her first year teaching 101 if she didn't tell me. Highly recommend.
very helpful during office hours and provides really good feedback on quizzes and midterms and really want you to succeed. the was difficult in comparison to the in class quizzes and the midterms but the class had a pretty high average going into the final so thats to be expected. would recommend her to anyone who needs to take chem 102
Class average was 51% and she said it was normal but thats not something to be proud of. Exams were all short answer and had some calculations here and there. Her notes are all posted online fill in the blank ones an annotated ones so you could just sit there and listen to her. Shes super nice but her test are super hard.
She seems like a nice and caring person and is very accessible outside classroom, but her midterms and tests are very hard and the stuff you learn in class does not correlate to it. I wish she gave out questions and problems set that actually relate to what will be on the exam.
Suchhh a gem, I love her so much
I don't understand all of the bad reviews here, she is literally the only chem prof I was able to understand and do well with. Her tests are not hard if you do her questions. Gives amazing lectures, and goes beyond great lengths to provide for her students. Would absolutely recommend for those who struggle!
Dr. Gedik is honestly so amazing! She genuinely cares about her students and wants them take away as much from her courses as possible. The best introductory chemistry prof there is!
Melis is by far the best chem 10X professor. I had her for 101 and intentionally shifted my schedule to have her again in 102. These two chemistry courses are genuinely challenging but that will be true with any prof. Melis's office hours are super laid back and allow for great discussion with all of the students who attend. She genuinely cares!!
By far one of the most caring profs of my first year. You can tell she cares for her classes and wants students to do well. Chem102 is really math based so I didn't do really hot but she is there for her students all the time if they ask for help. Also went the extra mile with online classes, hardly noticed a change in learning. Posts notes online
I love her. We love her. Also, ask about her dog, Leo. There is a lot of communication and care. She won't ever call you stupid. I didn't even have to read the textbook because her notes summarized it so well!!
gedik is the best prof ive ever had. i had her for 101 and 102 and her notes are so well organized and summarized, its not hard to get a good grade if you read through them. definitely would not have done as well as i did if she wasnt my prof.
Dr. Gedik is a great professor. She gives online quizzes which, if you have your notes beside you (this is allowed) are not very hard. Her exams do increase in difficulty as the term progresses. She has an in-class quiz, a midterm and a final. You can also ask her for help with the lab. Also, her exams almost always have bonus marks.
She is very caring and always willing to help you. You can ask her for help for labs since she used to be a TA here. This class is formatted the same as her 101 class. She provides a lot of problem sets which are very helpful. She is also very good with technology, so no need to worry about that. As well, she is always smiling and in a good mood.
She is one of the best professors I have seen on campus. She is quite polite and is very helpful. She makes sure that you understand the concept and ace in it. She also provided printed lecture notes during the lectures so there is no need for printing out the pre-lecture notes.
This is a prof that cares. She goes out of her way to make her lecture enjoyable and engaging, and answers questions diligently. She handled the transition to remote learning well, and made sure her class was supported. Her tests are quite difficult though, so make sure you're prepared.
Gedik is a good chemistry professor and knows her material very well. The class is not too rushed and keeps going at a steady pace, keeping up with the other Chem 102 classes. However, she uses skeletal notes which I am personally not a fan of. If you enjoy skeletal notes take this class.
Dr. Gedik is a really caring and supportive instructor. She puts an incredible amount of effort into her lectures and goes above and beyond to help her students succeed. I highly recommend Dr. Gedik.
Extremely helpful and organized lectures that cover everything! She provides extra resources such as lab help, outside of class workshops, exam review sessions, and one-on-one office hour appointments. This is definitely a class where you can see the results of your hard work!
She is giving me hope in chemistry. I love her lectures and workshops so much!!! I am obviously taking her class again!!!
Dr. Gedik was really great! I took it during summer 2020 so everything was online. She is a super understanding prof and always makes time for her students. You have to study her notes well for all quizzes and exams. If you put in the effort it will definitely pay off.
Dr. Gedik is amazingly caring. Even though I took chem 101 over the summer AND online, she made it interesting and as easy to digest as she could. Her dog is cute, she does everything she can for her students, and she's extremely passionate about what she teaches. Great prof. Can't wait to have her for 102 :)
UH took Chem 102 in Summer term so it was really condensed and EXTRA PAINFUL. She was lenient with part marks and made it clear that she wanted all her students to pass. However, the way she explained the content was confusing and she talked really fast making it hard to follow. She did workshop which counted toward participation but werent helpful
She is so caring, she wants students to pass her class. She hold workshops which help review materials. Opportunity to earn participation marks is there. Exams are difficult.
Dr. Gedik is amazing. She understands how much work students do outside of her course and adjusts what she assigns accordingly. She is very approachable, and her lecture are engaging. However, the course is difficult, so if you aren't willing to dedicate time to it, there's not much she can do to help you.
She was really nice and explained everything very well. But just make sure to do her problem sets and understand the material since her exam questions are similar to the problem sets.
Honestly, I don't know how I would have survived online if I hadn't been in her class. She is so caring. Definitely take her for Chem 101, I can't wait to have her for 102. You'll be glad you picked her.
She speaks pretty fast most of the time so get ready to keep up. There were lots of online open note quizzes which were easy and helpful (but not worth much). She disabled the chat when he got annoyed which was really frustrating... She was sometimes dismissive toward questions too, she can explain things well most of the time though.
Dr Gedik is a really good professor who has an excellent way of explaining concepts to her students. Its not her fault that the course material is somewhat tough but she tries her best to make it as clear as possible. Her quizzes were quite simple and her exams were fair. Do the problem sets and you're good to go!
Dr. Gedik made online learning a good experience in Chem 101. She has office hours 4 days a week and I found her lectures and notes to cover most of what we needed to know. If you are looking for a prof to actually learn from and who has a handle on online learning Dr. Gedik is the best choice, plus then you'll get to see Leo!
I don't think she's as great as everyone says. Her notes are exactly like the textbook so idk why its suggested to purchase it. She is dismissive towards many questions, which as a student terrifies you to ask one. She is a good prof if you are naturally great at chem. However, she explains stuff better in office hours but its hard to go to all.
Almost comes off as condescending & disrespectful at times, but other than that, pretty decent.
Dr. Gedik is an amazing prof for Chem 101. She explains topics very clearly and if you don't understand something, she is more than willing to go over it with you in her office hours.
Dr Gedik was amazing. She made the transition to online school so smooth. She's super funny and caring, and really wants to help her students do the best they can. She has amazing notes (With annotated available) and extra practice materials. Tests can be pretty tough, but if you pay attention and are engaged you'll do fine :)
Dr. Gedik was an incredible professor. She gave such in depth explanations and was willing to answer anyone's questions in her office hours. She also cared so much for us as not only students, but as people as well. Her class was very organized and made online learning easier! Also such a sweet person in general.
Dr. Gedik was fantastic. She is really great at clearly explaining concepts and makes it very clear what the learning expectations are for the course. Her lectures were my favourite because she has such a bright personality that really made me look forward to chem classes, so I would definitely take another course with her.
Definitely one of the best chem professors ever. Her lectures were very fun and engaging. A very generous marker and is always willing to give part marks/bonus marks on the exams!! The course itself isn't easy but Dr. Gedik made it super fun. Take her if you're able to, you won't regret it!
She is very organized, and has lots of office hours, practice work and extra resources to help you understand the concepts. her exams aren't easy, but they are fair and very similar to the quizzes and problem sets. She gives up a lot of her own time to help her students do well, and is very encouraging.
Dr. Gedik is so sweet and does her best to answer questions. I found that she would sometimes over complicate material. I would often be completely lost during lecture but she provided great notes and after some extra review on my own things would start making sense. Her tests were fair and shes the nicest most caring prof I had all semester.
Comes off as condescending and she seems like she is very caring, but in reality, she does not care about her students. If you have a question, check if it's a good question or else she will humiliate you for having a bad question and will not answer it. She uses skeletal notes that are copied from textbook and overcomplicates simple concepts.
Dr. Gedik was super nice but I found that she over complicated concepts. Although the textbook isn't needed, I found the textbook to help a lot to clear up any concepts. I recommend to go over concepts right after lecture because she doesn't often go over concepts or reply to questions asked.
She's a good prof. Her lectures are very detailed, if you don't attend or watch the lecture after it's recorded you won't do well as the midterm and final rely on these details. When it comes to answering questions sometimes she can be rude but in office hours she's willing to answer everyone's questions.
Dr. Gedik is a very good professor and is what you would expect from university style classes. Her notes are very well organized and contains all the info you need to do well. Her exams are very fair and if you study for them, you will do well no problem. Make sure to attend lecture to get easy participation marks which can bump you up if needed.
Solid prof, however this is a class where you can only do well if you put in the work. Super friendly, her exams are very fair, lectures are organized, and I HIGHLY recommend getting the textbook to help clear up confusing topics/get extra practice as Gedik can sometimes overcomplicate some topics. As long as you study, you'll do great.
Super understanding Professor, would 10/10 take her class again. Super helpful but if you want to succeed make sure to review review review for midterms and finals. You dont always know everything (learned that the hard way on one exam) but pay attention and youll get a decent mark, indulge yourself and get a great mark!
She's nice enough when just having a conversation, but if you're not good in the subject, she makes you feel stupid. She does not answer questions if she doesn't think its a good enough question, and if you wait until the end of class to ask so she will answer, she comes off as condescending. Never puts grades up on time but that may be situational
Dr. Gedik was a passive aggressive professor who didn't seem to want to be in the class for much other than feeding her dog treats and getting praise from her students. If class discussion was off topic, it would be turned off, but if it was praise for her she left it on. There are some unexpected test questions as well.
She is literally the kindest and most caring professor I've ever met, and she truly goes above and beyond for her students. The eClass page is EXCELLENTLY organized, and she makes expectations abundantly clear. If you think she is condescending, you're not seeing how frustrating can be to constantly repeat yourself to people who aren't listening.
Honestly, I am not sure why this professor has good reviews? I think it might be because in comparison to all the other chem 102 profs she's meh. So far she's condescending and monitors our discord chat like were in junior high students. Dr. Gedik deliberately won't explain concepts because she says "they are in the textbook".
Great prof. Do the problem sets to prepare for exams. You need to study well for the quizzes. Had an eclass outage during the final, but she gave everyone the option to write it again. She handled the situation well, only con was the grades came out really late. If you put in the work, you can get a good grade.
Wow! Professor Gedik is really a gem. She cares for her students and wants you to get the best mark you can. Her lecture notes are organized and understandable, and she holds plenty of office hours. She does a good job of conveying the information and provides tons of practice problems for you to try. Helped me alot in a semester where I struggled.
Dr. Gedik is one of the best profs I've ever had. She cares about every student's success and goes above and beyond in her teaching. She has multiple office hours every week and if you can't make it she will reply quickly to your emails. She provides a lot of helpful problem sets and I found using the textbook was great for extra practice.
Very sweet and caring prof. Tests aren't easy but are fair. Expects a very good grasp of highschool concepts going into her class which makes it difficult for those who had different highschool curriculums than alberta's. Overall very caring prof who makes herself very available to help students
Wow, Dr. Gedik exceeded expectations for the online semester! I loved how she had her puppy, Leo, with her in every lecture. Chem is not my strong suit but she definitely made it fun. SUPER ACCESSIBLE and genuinely wants you to succeed!! So don't be afraid to ask questions! She was super wonderful, & I wish I could take her again! Tests were fair
Very organized and available.
Melis Gedik may be okay at giving lectures on course material but it is not worth the condescending remarks and poor attitude. SHE chose this career path! If you want to simp for the prof, you will develop a good relationship with her, but if you're just there to learn, these simps in chat and class will be annoying and distracting.
She was the best chemistry professor I've ever had! She really cares about her students and will try her best to help you. Go to office hours if you need help! It really makes a difference. Her tests are hard but her notes and lectures are absolutely amazing!
I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Gedik. She was one of the best proffs I had. Her notes were immaculate, and her lectures were actually helpful. She would provide you with many problem sets and class quizzes that would help you understand the concepts way easier.
If your intentions for the course are to see Gedik's dog everyday and listen to condescending remarks, then take a class with her! This prof over complicates everything. Only good thing I'd say is she has decently organized notes, but otherwise, not a vibe.
Dr. Gedik is by far the best professor for CHEM102. She goes into detail about the content and helps you understand the why behind concepts. Dr. Gedik even gave us a review session for the lab exam because averages tend to be low. She gives challenging tests, but they're fair if you utilize ALL her resources. Overall, she's super caring.
she is very nice and her notes are very good. She has lots of office hours and helps as much as she can with the course. Some of her assignments I found hard and cramped at times (like midterm/ final season) which isnt the best.
Melis is a great prof if you already have a good understanding of Chem. If you are going into this class with a mediocre understanding, prepare to face a stuck-up and condescending prof whenever you ask a question. I can't give her a 1 for her lecture, because she has powerpoints to help with labs which can be a real life saver.
Shes one of the best professors out there. She is empathetic, kind, and actually cares about teaching the material well to her students. She provides enough help and resources for her students to succeed. Exams are pretty fair too.
VERY rude! If she doesn't like your question she will ignore it and she disables the chat. Her notes are basically the textbook but more organized. Exams and quizzes are very difficult and not enough time to do them. I didn't finish two of my exams. She has a few resources for the labs which were helpful. But overall DO NOT take a class with her!
She's a great prof, really cares for her students and puts in the time to really make sure you understand everything. She always has extra Q&A sessions and even has sessions to go over lab content. Her exams are very fair with a mix of written, fill in the blank and multiple choice questions. Definitely a prof you want to have for chem.
Dr Gedik wants you to succeed and helps with organized notes and extra hours to meet outside of class. Is prepared to help one on one as well. Tests were really long, hard to finish. Final did have an unfair question, but it was just to lower the average. Overall, a great prof, go with her if you want to deeply understand chemistry
I didn't like this class or Professor Gedik. She instantaneously flips back and forth between saying how dumb a student's question is and answering a student's question in insane detail. If you're a teachers's pet you might do well but if you're not you'll be so annoyed with her posse of fans in the chat all class. I don't recommend her class.
Professor Gedik is truly amazing. I found the class very difficult but she really tries her best so that everyone understands the concepts. Shes a very generous grader and gives many opportunities for participation marks and further learning. The lab exam really screwed me over but shes also super helpful for the lab reports too!
I heard so many good things about Gedik, but upon entering her class I was pretty underwhelmed. Her lectures are pretty hard to sit through (maybe that's just because of the content though) and she often comes off as condescending. Her tests are really hard, but she seems to mark fairly lenient and prepares you decently for them.
By far, the best prof for CHEM 102, as she goes above and beyond. You have to put in a lot of work into this class in order to do well, but getting an A is totally doable if you keep with the material. Her exam questions are very similar to her problem sets & practice finals. She also provides you with helpful resources for the lab exam.
Don't take this prof unless you want to have condescending remarks made towards questions asked.
Dr. Gedik is a solid choice. She cares for her students and gives good lectures. Sometimes, by her tone of voice, she can sound condescending when answering questions. However, I believe that this is not intentional, and she will help you learn the material. Exams were long, but had a wide range of question difficulty. Study hard.
Im not sure why Dr. Gedik has a high review? I found Dr. Gedik to be very condescending and got angry at questions asked during lecture. I worked really hard but felt Gediks aggressive nature prohibited me from succeeding in chem 102.
I found Dr Gedik to be rude and condescending. There were numerous times where students' questions were shut down during class for peculiar reasons. The material itself is pretty heavy in terms of the amount of material covered and some units are harder than others. Take this class but not with this prof.
There were so many kiss ups in this class it was honestly annoying at the end. She taught a 100 level course as if we were all PhD candidates and used very hard analogies to make connections. She was nice and welcoming, but her overall teaching style was not my favourite. Her notes were either too brief, or her teaching was too specific, no in b/w.
I found her note packages okay and she clearly loves chem. However, her written response questions were extremely hard and the practice finals do not prepare you for them. Moves very quick and gives not chance to miss class. You will be very behind. She also does a TON of out of class reading assignments/workshops/recordings which you have to do
Gedik is a great professor when it comes to explaining concepts. The course itself is very heavy, however I do feel she makes it more difficult than a 100 level course should be, but shes always open for questions and replied to emails quick. Shes also always holding additional help sessions and loves what she teaches!
Dr. Gedik was a great prof. She was always available and made extra office hours when needed. Her class is extremely difficult if you did not go through the Alberta high school curriculum. Basically read the textbook, go to lecture, practice, and know your note packages and you'll do great.
Gedik was okay. She provides lots of resources BUT overcomplicated the course ALOT. Ended up teaching myself. Mandatory attendance with only 2 chances to miss class for the whole sem, takes YEARS to mark things (wrote final dec 14, got % mark back Jan 3rd, still waiting on letter grade). Poor time management, we did the last 2 units in 2 weeks.
Dr. Gedik goes above and beyond to set you up for success from applied problem sets to useful workshops. This class is very practice oriented and I was glad to have been supplied with ample resources to ensure my understanding.
Maybe it was the fact that it was chem 101, but I found this class to be quite difficult. Prof. Gedik seemed really sweet and every time I had to email her about something she was a pleasure to deal with.
There is a criminal underappreciation with Gedik. She is a GEM. She dedicate so much of her time into her office hours where she would reteach concepts. Truly one of the most kind professors I have ever had. Her final was rough yes, but she gives so many part marks that you'd be more than okay by attempting it.
This prof was friendly and answered questions, but the lectures were literally just her reading off of the slides of 45 minutes. As if that wasn't already unhelpful enough, we never finished the material in classes and we were left to finish it on our own time. Also she over complicated concepts wayyy too much.
She was a very kind person but not a good professor. Concepts taught were over complicated and confusing. Her problem sets and quizzes were good and representative of the midterms. She had a lot of extra lessons that had to be done outside of class that take up a lot of time.
Honestly I could never grasp anything in her lectures but when I'd review her notes after class, everything would make sense - that's how good her notes are. Gedik's problem sets are very representative of the exams. She also host these workshops which I found to be super helpful. If you use the resources she provides, you will be completely fine.
Mediocre prof, not very good at explaining things but her problem sets and notes are really good.
She's a great prof! Notes are good and problems sets are similar to the types of questions you see on exams. If you put in the work you'll do fine. I had her for chem 101 and 102 and I'd recommend her for any intro chem course.
I liked her a lot! She's not as rude or condescending as people seem to say. The class itself moved very fast but she was great and helping you along. She really cares about her students.
An absolute gem. Not "rude and condescending" from my experience. Provides tons of resources to set you up for success. Accessible; provides in-depth explanations patiently. Problem sets are representative of exam difficulty; exams are not easy, but it's necessary to differentiate between different levels of achievement in large classes like 101.
Overall, Gedik is a pretty great prof. She provides plenty of problem sets that are similar to questions on the midterms and final, and all the exam questions are fair. Understandably, she can get somewhat frustrated at times during class because she has to repeat herself. If you work hard and pay attention, you'll do well!
Melis is very respectful to her students. She is teaching a very heavy course and sticks to a certain pace in lectures and workshops because of that. This is a course that requires the student to work for the grade and she does her best to help you through it.
Dr. Gedik is amazing and extremely helpful if you put in the effort to get help. Provides many practice questions, promptly responds to emails, and makes herself available for many office hour periods as well as extra optional workshops.
Very kind and caring prof who knows what she is teaching.
I wouldn't say that she is over the top amazing but like compared to my other profs notes, hers are quite good and highlight the stuff that you need to know for the midterms/finals. ATTEND THE MIDTERM/FINAL REVIEW SESSIONS!!! She's real passive-aggressive when answering questions but as long as you're adamant about it she will end up answering it.
Dr. Gedik's pace is slow- you will do a lot of lessons on your own in order to keep up. The quizzes are difficult, the problem sets do not prepare you for exam questions, and the exams are tough. She also takes a very, very long time to grade exams. It is clear she is passionate about chemistry, but I would not recommend her to upcoming students.
Hands down the most dedicated Chem prof. Gives extra resources to help you understand the concepts, holds workshops for almost every unit, even posted a summary document for the lab exam, and videos of her going over the practice questions! Although she takes a while to return the exams back, all her efforts to help you succeed outweigh that.
Dr. Gedik is super helpful during office hours and I've only had positive experiences with her. She doesn't treat my questions as dumb and will happily explain concepts to you one on one just to make sure you understand the topic completely. She also helped me with questions regarding all my CHEM 102 Lab assignments. She is very dedicated and smart
Had her for CHEM 101 and got her for 102 even though the location did not work for my schedule. Grades take a while to come back as she looks through the exams to ensure consistency in TA marking. Not condescending in any way, asks students to review recording to reduce repeated questions. Goes above and beyond to help students in lecture and lab.
Not even in her section but what a great prof
Not even in her class but she held a help session for Experiment V and allowed us to attend. Super caring prof!
Dr. Gedik made sure you understood the concepts and has workshops for almost every unit. She also held help sessions for various experiments in the lab and did not hesitate to help. A lot of people say she can be passive-aggressive but that's because some students just ask questions that were already addressed or later would be so in the lectures.
Truly cares about her students. She made sure everyone can attend the Final Lab Exam workshop and adjusted the schedule because some students had lab exams in other courses. Goes out of her way to make sure students do well in the course!
Dr. Gedik was extremely helpful through both CHEM 101 and 102. Provides detailed lectures and records classes regardless if is in-person or online. She also has a lot of office hours available for if you want to ask questions outside of lecture and she also provides multiple resources to supplement your learning. Highly recommend her!
Amazing professor! Her notes are detailed and clear and provides a plethora of resources for students. Holds workshops on course + lab content to ensure students understand concepts. Explanations are clear and build upon previously-taught concepts. Exams are tough, but part marks are generously awarded and she went over all the exams herself again!
Love love love this prof. You can tell she truly cares about kids learning and mental health while making sure you strive to earn the best grade possible. Chem is not my best class but she loves it so much it convinces you that you love it too. She is so helpful even regarding the lab portion of the class which is a rare sight to see in uni!
Dr. Gedik is an amazing professor. She is always readily available to answer questions and very accommodating. She goes in-depth in all topics, and prepares you very well for exams. She genuinely wants to help her students, and gives lots of review sessions and workshops. If you put in effort, you should do well. 100% recommend her!
Had her for 101 too and still love her. Class itself is difficult but she encourages students a lot. Has office hours 3 times a week every week and help sessions before every exam and even before days when lab reports were due even though she has nothing to do with the lab, and invited students from other classes. Seriously can't recommend enough.
Switched into her class, very glad I did! She was good at teaching the material and taking questions, however if we were short on time+it was covered, she would direct students to the recorded lectures to rewatch. Should have used the textbook, my friends did and did better than me. However, her problem sets and in lec questions were enough for me
Melis is extremely dedicated to her job and overall a great prof. She would hold optional workshops, even on Sundays. She also would host review sessions often and it was obvious she wanted to see students succeed. However she needs to vastly improve her marking. It takes YEARS. 3 wks for our final grades, other sections had it much faster.
MOMMY GEDIK IS THE BEST. she always regrades the exams herself to make sure everyone receives a fair grade. she is very caring and passionate about what she teaches. I took her for chem 101 and 102 and I would definitely take her again if i can. Only downside is that she does tend to rush over certain units and also make us learn units on our own.
Explains concepts in a way I could easily understand. Tests very close to lecture examples/problem sets. Hosts many help sessions outside class. Was a great experience.
I found Dr. Gedik to be a good prof in class, as she taught clearly, but found her to be difficult to reach outside of class. I had her loose my emails multiple times, and then cancel our meetings after saying we could meet. Classes were fast paced and exams were quite difficult.
I admire her greatly, 100% recommend. Lectures are clear and her problem sets were very helpful for the midterm.
Gedik is probably the best Chem 101 prof at the shcool. I mean I haven't had anyone else so I'm biased but I can't see how anyone could do better. Her quizzes and tests are essentially a revamp of the problem sets, she has many opportunities to find her outside of class and she's active on the forum. She also hosts her lectures on zoom everyday.
I wish I enjoyed chemistry because I would love to take another class with Dr. Gedik. She is amazing! She's remarkably accessible outside of class and her passion for both the subject and the students is palpable. Everything she did was recorded and uploaded afterwards so that anyone could access the lectures/workshops/office hours at any time.
This prof was pretty good in terms of lectures however when it came to test writing the tests were much harder than anything we did in class and she would take about 3-4 weeks to give back exams after they were written. You can tell she cares about what she teaches which is nice but just make sure you study hard!
Such a great prof! Lectures are easy to follow despite the content itself being very hard and tedious. Her teaching is clear and has so many resources for students. Chem is hard but this prof does the best she can and is super helpful and caring. I recommend Dr. Gedik!
Dr. Gedik was a blessing from chem 102. There is so much content but she provided problem sets that look exactly like the questions on the midterms and final, and pertinent textbook problems. She also posted full length practice midterms and finals for additional help. Clearly very caring and should jump on the opportunity to take her for chem!
Lectures are clear, detailed, and concepts are well explained. Dr. Gedik is very committed to her students, and holds special optional workshops outside of class to go over extra problems. She'll answer any question you have very thoroughly and makes things easy to understand. It seems like she genuinely enjoys teaching and has a passion for chem.
She's very passionate about chemistry and teaching. I greatly appreciated the problem sets, office hours, and additional help she provided. However, I found the lectures difficult to follow; I relied heavily on the textbook and online forums for learning the material. She also took a long time to mark exams (3-5 weeks)
Her lectures are a bit confusing, but the problem sets she provides are very helpful and are a MUST-DO if you want to do well. The videos/lessons she posts on eClass are very good at explaining the difficult concepts. Problem Set and Quiz questions are very similar in difficulty to those on exams, and her office hours are also very good.
I haven't had many profs as a first year student, but she was definitely my favourite by far this sem. Her notes were sufficient, and her practice problems were very similar to midterm questions. You'll need to put in the work, of course, but it's not overbearing in any way. Very passionate about the course and students' understanding.
She has tons of office hours and runs weekly workshops to go over difficult topics. She is very reasonable and extended deadlines when our class ran a bit behind.
Dr. Gedik is a wonderful lecturer, she was always interesting during class, even during the more difficult to understand or "boring" topics. She is approachable and will make accommodations for extraneous factors that allow students to succeed in the course.
Dr. Gedik provides you with the tools to succeed and more. Her teaching style consists of discussing theory and then providing an example that applies it right after. She provides problem sets and holds workshops that are extremely similar to exam style questions. She is an extremely caring and understanding prof that I would recommend to anyone.
Dr. Gedik is a great professor, she provided us with many great resources to ensure our success in the class, she was caring and you can tell she is passionate about teaching chemistry. She makes herself accessible outside of class, her lectures are easy to follow and she is very well prepared and organized when teaching.
Dr. Gedik is an excellent CHEM 101 professor. Her lecture notes are straightforward and concise, covering all the content necessary for midterm exams and finals in-depth; therefore, textbooks are not required. However, she takes a long time to grade exams. Fall'22 students received their official marks after the beginning of the Winter'23 semester.
Dr.Gedik had engaging lectures and very fair exams. The textbook was not needed as her notes were easy to follow and understand. She was also quick to respond on emails and provided loads of help with not only lecture material but labs as well. Expect long waiting times for exam return but having them returned virtually helped with accessibility.
Absolutely amazing prof in order to understand and know how to use the course content. Has fairly difficult test however, but makes up for it by being an easy marker!
Dr. Gedik is amazing she really cares that students understand the material and is very accessible.
Greatest Professor of All Time. Dr. Gedik made me love Chemistry through her enthusiasm to teach. I was afraid of Chemistry after being on Probation but Dr. Gedik made sure to check up on me and offer invaluable help during office hours. She makes other Professors look like a complete joke. An honor to have once been a student. Thank you Dr. Gedik!
Professor Gedik is very passionate about chemistry and teaching which makes it very easy to learn from her. Her tests are fair as long as you put in the work. Chem 102 is a content heavy course but she will make sure the concept has been covered entirely before moving on. She is also very friendly and accessible outside of class.
I loved Dr. Gedik. Chem 102 was extremely math heavy (I am not a math person by ANY means), and she made it so bearable and enjoyable. Her lectures were engaging, and her problem sets and quizzes reflected the midterms and final quite well. If you put in the effort, it will pay off. She was so caring and she is very accessible for help!
Dr. Gedik is an amazing lecturer and person. Workshops, office hours, and the videos she posts provide adequate ways to learn more outside of class. She is also lovely to ask questions and is not intimidating whatsoever. I personally like her fill-in-the-blank style notes.
Although a bit snarky, professor Gedik is an all around good prof. It just drives me nuts that she takes so long to mark things though. For Gedik's chem 102 UTILIZE THE TEXTBOOK QUESTIONS, it will help you immensely.
Dr. Gedik's passion for chemistry rubs off on students through her incredible teaching style. She's always happy to help outside of class, even for the lab component. Her problem sets are extremely useful and essential for succeeding on tests. She genuinely cares about her students in both academic and personal difficulties.
For a fairly difficult course, she was (comparatively I've heard) a really great prof. Super accessible outside of lecture, very understanding, and most of all takes the time to make sure exam grades are really consistent with tons of part marks. Overall, a great prof, especially for earlier chem courses since you're still adjusting to uni.
I really liked how she organizes her notes, and she goes over topics with good depth. The course material is super heavy, so you're going to have to put in a lot of work. I didn't attend her office hours, but she does post everything on zoom.
Recorded lectures; practice exams are very good representation of what is going to come in exams
SHE'S THE BEST!!!!!
Dr. Gedik knows students' common mistakes and teaches students in a scientific way. One sentence she gave me can help me to do a better calculation. She is caring. Her courses are high quality. But if she can improve a little hand writing and make it bigger I would be appreciated. Overall, she is the best professor I have ever met!
Prof. Gedik was great for Chem 102 she was such a fun prof to have and would always make sure the students were understanding concepts, if you can take her I would 100% recommend it. She also has help for the lab on the class as well!!
Really great prof, who cares deeply about the subject she's teaching and the students she's teaching. Beware of her tough quizzes and exams.
An amazing professor. You do not need to go to in person lectures as she uploads recordings online, very clear speaking voice, great at teaching, all around the best professor I've had yet.
Her lectures were very engaging and she took the time to explain the course content despite the limited time constraint. Her workshops were also very helpful, going to those made me had a moment of clarity when I didn't understand a concept. Overall a great prof, take her classes if you can.
LOVE MELIS!!! The course is not easy but she makes it very interesting and tells you exactly how you will be expected to do problems for exams. So many extra resources for practice and she truly cares about her students. Best prof I've had and she made me love chemistry so much. Her lectures notes are amazing fill-in the blank style.
Dr.Gedik is passionate about what she teaches, she is meticulous when going over content ensuring learning is acquired. She was available for extra help and scheduled optional workshops to brush up on concepts.
Loved her teaching style, but I found her marking unfair on midterms. I felt that she would dock marks for small mistakes. She held workshops outside of class, she clearly cares that her students do good. Her quizzes were open book. She recorded her classes so you can review topics later. Do the problem set and textbook questions.
I found her to be a wonderful teacher who has very accessible office hours and a ton of supplementary resources to help strengthen understanding of concepts. I wouldn't say she used the textbook a lot, but it is good to read if you are struggling with a concept or need more practice.
Dr. Gedik does an excellent job explaining concepts and gives you ample practice material to prepare for exams. The problem sets supplied are similar in difficulty to what is tested on the midterms and final, so prioritize your time understanding the material of in each problem set. The written exams make you apply your knowledge but are very fair
Dr. Gedik is a great prof. She clearly cares about what she is teaching and I found that notes and all her resources were really helpful leading up to exams. The problem sets and quizzes were very representative of what to expect on exams. If there's anything I could suggest, DO THE PROBLEM SETS and take them seriously.
Dr. Gedik is super funny, friendly, and caring. She held online workshops for the pre/postlabs which was immensely helpful as the CHEM 10X labs do not line up with the lectures whatsoever. Only downslide was that tests took around 4-6 weeks to get marked, but that could have been due to circumstances out of her control.
Melis is the best chem prof I ever had. She is very caring and takes time to explain concepts to her students. She offers online Zoom sessions as well so if you can't attend class, there's that. Her midterms were manageable and are good for reviewing for the final. Do the problem sets she posts and be determined, you will have an easy time.
Dr. Gedik is absolutely smart and she is clearly knowledgeable of the material and she is a great instructor! She provided us with recorded lectures in case we missed the class. However, the class was very hard and the labs were even harder than the class. I think there needs to be an overhaul in the 1XX chem labs because they're not sustainable rn
Dr. Gedik is such a great prof! She goes through lots of examples and her problem sets are very helpful.
The explaination were very clear, and exams were at reasonable difficulties! Definitely was very approachable as well
She was a really good prof, accommodating but I felt if as her teaching wasn't for me. Difficult midterms, but an easier final which helped bump my grade up. Overall, I would probably take her again
She seems like a good person, but as a prof she's nothing remarkable. She records her lectures and posts lab help which is a plus but there were a couple instances where she'd mention a topic in the notes, not teach it, and have it on a test. Terrible test turn around time, it shouldn't take 3+ weeks to get them back. Overall a mid prof.
50% of topics are "self-learn" not covered in class but tested. Topics in-class not properly taught. Says I taught this in "my" 101 class you should know it. Hard marker - right answer + work shown still no marks unless done exactly the way she wants. If you can learn by your self then take Gedik but if you need to be taught the content then no.
Overall her teaching was good, the lectures I went to were informative and her style of notes made it easy to review and study with. Posts a lot of problem sets for practice and also provides extra videos and workshops for help. Tests are on the harder side, so be prepared to study and work hard.
I had her for both Chem 101/2. Her lectures are engaging and she is very accessible outside of class. She posts recordings of lectures - tho they are delayed to be posted. Do the problem sets and make sure you understand the material and theory. She is a great prof but the course is hard if you do not keep up. The final is much harder than midterms
Dr. Gedik refused to grant me an extension on a quiz despite my father having a stroke. Based on this lack of compassion, I would not recommend this professor. On a less personal note, she is very condescending and puts you down for asking questions that she deems redundant.
Dr Gedik was a pretty good prof, she explained things pretty clearly and was always asking if anyone had any questions. However during some of her lectures I found her to be a little annoying. The midterms were pretty easy however the final was much more difficult.
Gedik is an excellent prof that has the perfect balance between lecture speed and making sure you understand the key concepts. She provides easily understandable notes, which if you practice, can help you understand all the ideas. The quizzes relate to class content and do not take too long to complete.
Very good teaching speed with clear notes, but sometimes can be a little too simplified compared to exam questions. Good practice problems are provided to help you understand the information. Quizzes are related to course content and are easy to do with you review the notes.
Dr. Gedik is amazing!!! Organized lecture notes, lecture recordings, easy midterm exams and final exams, similar in difficulty to practice questions, and problem sets. Provided me with help past office hours multiple times. Really cares about us, and wants us to succeed. Marks test late but doesn't matter!!! Friendly and pleasant to talk with!!!
Gedik was a very caring and passionate professor. She truly cares about helping students. So helpful in office hours and her fill in notes worked so well for me. Highly recommend going to her workshop! The only thing are her finals are overly difficult but partial marks will always save you. Def take this class with her if you can!
I had Gedik for both chem 101 and chem 102, and she's genuinely a caring prof. Practice problems/midterms/quizzes are very representative of what will be on exams, so don't just attend lectures and think the examples will be enough to study from. Flashcards/flow charts and redoing lecture problems/quizzes/practice problems are how you study.
Dr. Gedik provides lots of resources to supplement the course material and lectures very well. It is clear that she enjoys teaching this class.
Gedik is a passionate prof who cares about student success. Her organized notes and recordings are super helpful. While her tests can be challenging, using resources like unstuck study alongside the practice problems really pays off. Overall, a rewarding class if you're willing to put in the work.
Mean, she is so mean. She may sounds supportive to you during lecture, but BE AWARE, don't contact her after lecture time, you will got scolded. She doesn't check her email even though it's sent by the office.. She scold me for not noticing her by my email while the science department formally send her an email but SHE NEVER READS HER EMAIL.
This teacher seems kinda nice during lectures but is very passive aggressive. She fails to simplify complex concepts and over complicates simple concepts. Her course content is not very organized and her lecture notes are only posted as recordings, only other note resource is her textbook copied blank notes. Would not recommend.
Awesome prof, explains things so well and is so nice, probably one of my favourite classes I took. If you can get her for chem 101 do it you won't regret it.
She seems nice and cares about the course content, but the methods are questionable. Notes are given blank after the fact, many things untaught are tested within midterms with the rest coming straight from problem sets. Grading time is an issue, waiting 3 weeks for a midterm mark is not sustainable, and does not set you up well for a final exam.
Only teaches things in a single way, no alternate explanations if you don't understand a topic. Quizzes are pretty difficult but actually mildly helpful. Exams are done in a very stressful environment and are real difficult. She keeps saying "I hope you understand" when not actually teaching it in a way for me to understand, which is aggravating.
Gedik really cares about her students success!! She is always readily available to answer questions and super knowledgeable for the lab component as well! There are weekly quizzes, but she gives you two attempts and they help you stay on track of your learning. Her notes are extremely organized and she records/hosts a zoom session for lectures.
she actually cares for her students. she holds zoom meetings for students who can't make it to class and posts the lectures as well so you can rewatch them. she also holds workshops before exams to get us extra help with understanding the class material. girlboss
Overall was a good prof, she did provide zoom for her lectures which were great to have
Melis Gedik was an amazing prof. She explains concepts slowly and very well. She is also willing to help any struggling student so that they can succeed! I highly recommend taking a class with her. You will not regret it!
Dr. Gedik is an amazing person who cares about her students, but it felt like she was rushing all the material towards the end of the semester. She has a lot of help sessions and tries to break down course mateial as much as possible.
Gedik is an amazing prof with good explanations and lots of office hours. She wants to see you succeed and is very knowledgeable. The exams were fair and similar to the quizzes and problem sets that I recommend always doing. At times she talks fast and it can be hard to get down extra info but you'll always have what you need + awesome summaries!
Melis is a good professor in general, cares about her students and has lots of resources for success. Beware, exams are difficult but you can succeed by studying hard. Yes, I know it is hard work to grade but I am very disappointed in how long grades take to come out. For midterms and finals we have waited up to 3 weeks to receive marks.
With all due respect, Melis isnt a horrible prof. Her teaching style is ok and her workshops were helpful. My problem with her is her extremely slow marking, her inability to reply to emails, and how her lecture component seems to be weeks ahead of the lab component. Whether that's her fault or the faculty? I don't know. I still don't like her
Dr. Gedik was a very good prof. Her notes are really well structured and if you pay attention in class and do the problem sets along with other practice questions you will do fine. She's very accessible outside of class as well and genuinely wants you to do good.
Very well organized
Dr. Gedik is a gem! Her lecture notes are easy to follow, her tests are incredibly well made and fair, and she even livestreams her lectures on zoom, then uploads a recording of it to a site if you can't make it to class. She offers significant help (go to her workshops!) and posts weekly recaps. Definitely one of the best profs on campus!
Her exams were fair and reasonable. If you put in the time, you can do well.
She's chill. She will help you get clear understanding of questions you have. Content is pretty easy just gotta make connections btwn topics. Lectures are slow-paced so you can get a grasp in class. Would take again.
She is a great teacher, but i did think she moved a little too slow in lectures which made us fall behind schedule a bit, but it did help learning with the speed because she made sure we understood. My issues came with her marking speed, and feedback. When asking questions, I found she could be a little condescending.
Not a super big fan of chemistry but her lectures are 10/10. She has so much aura
caring but she takes so long to grade
I did better in organic chemistry (A-) than in her class, do with that what u will.
notes and lectures are good, she is good professor
Amazing professor—extremely knowledgeable and effective. However, her email responses often carried a “you should know this already” and a not-very-nice tone, which discouraged me from reaching out. I ended up contacting other professors teaching the course instead, as they were more approachable and supportive during office hours.
gedik's lectures and notes were very good and provided a lot of resources + problem questions for students. she was also very caring and made sure everyone was on the same pg and made sure to spend extra time on topics if needed but I found that the midterms were low-key not the same as her problem sets- very calculation heavy course but liked her
Gedik is the GOAT! Provides so many resources and practice. The course itself is hard, and very math heavy but she is willing to sit down one on one and help you through it, even the lab component. OFFICE HOURS IS A MUST, if you email her it might take her awhile to respond. She is very friendly and nerdy so don't be afraid, she doesn't bite :)
The problem sets don't represent the midterms at all, also there was a section of notes that she had us do ourselves, she said there'd only be 2 questions on that section for the midterm (there was a full page front and back on those notes on the midterm). She's also rude
Professor gives live classes on Zoom and is accessible outside class. Problem sets she gives are very representative of final exam and midterms. She helps with the lab portion as well. She answers questions and replies to emails fast.
shes an okay prof. she has a lot of knowledge about chemistry and i can clearly tell she enjoys teaching it as well. but something about her, knowledge is hard to retain from her. it doesnt really stick in my brain compared to other profs. and she could be a good prof, but as a person, i wouldnt say so, something about her is kind of unpleasant.
Loved her for chem 105. super clear about what would be on the test. If you redo the class examples and pay attention you won't even have to study that much. Also go to the lecture right before the final/midterm even if the test is the same day. There's very few people in the lecture and she goes over examples that are almost the same as the test.
Khalto Gedik was a top G
Gedik you are the best! Clear, well-structured lectures and very supportive to students. Expectations are transparent, feedback is timely, and she helps you truly understand the chemistry, not just memorize. Her class feels warm and encouraging—like a caring mentor guiding us forward. Highly recommended.
Melis Gedik is amazing!!!! By far my favourite prof, she holds workshops outside of regular lectures, and is always very accessible for questions. Her lectures are amazing, she's very clear spoken and provides visual explanations for concepts. Her exams usually have among the highest averages in the department.
ABSOLUTE GODESSS! saved my grade and is so efficient. She teaches extremely fast but without rushing and she really explains the reasoning why things happen and how to answer exam specific questions.
Good prof but exams are awful
She expects you to basically remember everything from highschool chem and some stuff from physics 30 as well. She spends a bunch of unnecessary time on small details while forgetting the big picture and the exams are quite difficult. make sure you do all the problems sets and have a really solid review of highschool chem
Great professor. Lots of online materials as well as recorded lectures so class isn't mandatory but recommend. There is a textbook but it's online and free. Lots of material is covered but explanations are clear and concise. Holds workshops which are incredibly helpful for understanding the topics. Tests are difficult but reasonable so review well.
She's definitely not the worst chem prof, but if you can take someone else, I would. She doesn't explain concepts very clearly and doesn't go through many examples either. I honestly don't really get the hype around her.
she made me love chem
