Very enjoyable class. Fair grading for exams and papers!

Fair, organized, clear, and easy on the eyes to boot! I fail to think of anything negative to say about her. Her exams aren't terribly difficult (most people were done exams within 20-30 mins, including the final) but, you still need to go to class and do a good amount of studying. All her notes are on BB but, she'll give hints and whatnot.

If you plan to buy the book, DO NOT buy Psychology Challenges for Life (The required version). Get the clicker (cause it's for marks now) and try getting a hold of the book called Psychology Applied to Modern Life. Her lecture notes are based on that book instead, so her notes will correlate better with the book. Read that book and you'll do well.

Having taken three courses with her (205, 312 and 345) I can definitely say she is one of the most knowledgeable and entertaining profs at the university. Going to class may not be a requirement, but you will definitely receive a better mark for doing so as she tends to relate all aspects of the material to real life. Certainly a gem.

She's a very knowledgeable prof and makes your life easy. The lectures are very clear and I guess, my only explanation is because she was a student not too long ago so she knows how to teach effectively. As a side not, her and Dr. Causton should get married and make Beautiful Babies!

I have taken a total of 4 semesters with Melissa (205, 312A, 312B and 345), so I can truly say she is one of, if not the best prof at the U of C. She is enthusiastic, funny and very knowledgeable. She knows how to relate to undergrads and does so with ease. She is always helpful, answers questions with clarity and really cares about her students.

I first took a class with Melissa in first year. She's FANTASTIC and genuinely cares. I have now taken a total of 3 semesters with her, PSYC 205, 312A and 312B. I plan on taking most if not all of my future PSYC classes with her, and is definitely one of if not the best prof at the U of C. The U is lucky to have her. I love going to her classes.

Boyce is an awesome professor! Highly recommended. Young so she can relate to topics that students are interested in. DONT BUY THE TEXTBOOK! I didnt open it once all year I promise! Definitely take a class with Boyce even if you arent interested in Psychology, you'll enjoy her lectures

Such an easy class with an awesome prof. Melissa knows this class is a GPA booster and helps you out towards that end in this class. She is really funny, prepares tell-all lecture notes and her tests are as simple as they can get without being ridiculous. Definitely take a class with her if you can. But don't buy the text book - waste of $150.

I took this class just for fun/fill up 5 courses and ended up loving it! I'm definitely going to do 205 with her. Amazing and hilarious, I've never laughed so much in a lecture. She should ditch teaching and go do stand up in Hollywood.

An amazing Prof! Makes class interesting with personal stories and her great sense of humor. Clickers also make the class more enjoyable. The tests are easy and she is extremely helpful and approachable not to mention easy on the eyes!

Dr. Boyce is an amazing prof. She's young so she's really easy to relate to plus her lectures are interesting and funny. Dont buy the text book since she doesnt use it. Going to class is mandatory because of clickers. Her tests are easy if you study the slides, you will not have a problem. She answers emails in about 5 minutes, no matter what time.

She is an amazing prof, if you get a chance to take a class with her I would 100% recommend you do that! She is extremely clear on what she wants you to know for test, and answers emails/questions super fast! Don't miss a class, she gave us many hints!

S/S - As an adult student, I found Dr. Boyce to be one of the finest Profs I have come across. She is very knowledgeable and manages to keep her students engaged in the lecture at all times. I'm a 4th year and this was my favorite class so far! Tests were very easy and as long as you are able to justify your answers, she gave you full marks. Forensic psych was an interesting topic to begin with but she made it even better! This is my second class with her and looking fwd to consumer psych with her next semester!

Boyce has amazing lectures. Her tone, personality, and the way she delivers the lectures make it that much more interesting. I've finished this class now, but next time I think I will just drop by to any of her lectures and sit in to be entertained. It's so hard to get into her class though if you're not a pysch major, people are too darn fast!

She's really engaging and fun to listen to. After being at school for 8 hours already it is still easy to pay attention. She has a great sense of humor to boot.

She's the nicest teacher in the world but one of her TAs was a HORRIBLE marker. Chose the best paper from the class and marked papers accordingly. Aside from that, you don't need to attend any classes, just study the slides! She's quite interesting though so you might as well.

My favorite class of the semester! She made it so enjoyable that you looked forward to going to class. The examples used and jokes were great. I have nothing but positive feedback for her. Plus her tests are cumulative and they're very straight forward. An easy A! If possible, don't miss out on taking a lecture with her.

Melissa rules. Her tests were fair (boarding on easy if you study at all) and she makes sure to give hints during lecture. I didn't buy the textbook and my grade did not suffer for it. However, tutorials are assignment heavy and a waste of time.

She is one of the best professors I have ever had and totally peaked my interest in psychology after taking her class. I took a later class, just to hear her lecture because it was so good.

Melissa is by far the best instructor at UofC. I love her teaching style compared to other instructors I've had. Her tests are quite straight-forward and are actually fun to write. I am sure she'll be promoted to full professor rank within no time.

This was hands-down the best class I have ever taken. Forensic psyc is straight up Melissa's field so she absolutely glows when she talks about it. Lectures were sooo interesting to listen to...come on serial killers, criminals, how to do interrogations, jury duty - who could not like it? Take this course with her, I guarantee u won't regret it

Melissa is one of the best professors at the UofC. She makes stats easy to learn and is always ethnusiastic. I highly recommend this professor. If you haven't taken a class with her, do so!!! Most interesting class ever! She's great with her explanations and the tests weren't too hard. If you attend classes and pay attention then there's not a lot of studying needed for exams. Definitely a GPA booster, and VERY highly recommended.

I took this class as an elective, PIECE OF CAKE! Don't buy the text, all tests are based off her lecture powerpoints which she posts online as well. Easiest class I've ever taken. Definite GPA booster and she's funny too.

THE BEST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD. She's great at explaining if you want to fully understand the material inside out. She even gave us bonus marks on the final exam for attending the last lecture of the term (which took place on BSD). Highly recommended. She's quick at responding to emails. Her slides are straightforward and VERY helpful.

She is really great, probably the best prof at the university. The class itself is extremely easy and quite interesting. If you are attending this class, don't even bother buying the textbook, everything you need to know is on her slides. Overall, awesome prof!!

The textbook is definitely not needed for this class. Everything on her exams were straight from her powerpoints and some of the clicker questions in class were even put word for word on the exam! Just attend class, you'll love it and it's cake! She tends to say "ultimately" A LOT and uses a lot of arm and hand gestures, but you get used to it.

She is very helpful and does her best to keep the class involved and able to relate to the class subject matter. She has a great sense of humor and made a boring stats class that I wasn't looking forward to rather tolerable. I'd definitely suggest a class with her, especially if the thought of a statistics class scares you!

Great prof, I would highly recommend her. You can get away with not going to class, but if you go, you're guaranteed an A. Besides, I found her lectures interesting plus she's clear and concise. The exams were non-cumulative and there is bascially no work load if you attend class.

She is a very fun,witty, interesting, understandable and knowledgeable. She was very good at answering any questions you had via email and was readily availableto speak to if any issues arise. I loved how she made her lecture notes available before classes so you can follow along and take additional notes. Her exams were easy and not tricky at all.

Definitely one of my favourite profs ever! She's great both in front of a class and one-on-one. Personable, helpful, humourous, engaging! Her classes are interactive, she makes the exams herself and the questions are always fair, she provides so many great practice problems. I know stats doesn't sound like fun, but I really enjoyed it!

I have take PSYC 203, 205, and 312 with Melissa. I have received and A+ in every class. No need to even think about buying a textbook. You will do well if you show up (which isn't bad because she is hilarious and easy to look at). She should win every teaching award there is. Amazing professor. Stats is by no means an interesting topic, her blackboard slides covered basically all material, but I still always went to her lecture because she explained things clearly and always incorporated her humour to keep us interested. VERY easy tests if you pay attention- I hope to be in more of her classes int the future.

Melissa Boyce is an amazing prof. She understands how students learn best and tailors her lectures to be extremely interesting and filled with lots of interactive questioning and short videos. Very helpful and answers e-mails quickly, even the night before an exam. She's pretty funny and has great stories. The tests can be ambiguous, but if you ask her she will lead you in the right direction.

Melissa is a very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and helpful prof, especially in this class as forensic psyc is her specialty. She can speak a little fast, but she explains things thoroughly and clearly. Attend the lectures if you want to do well as there's a lot of detail that's not included on the slides. Class notes/slides are key - especially the practice questions asked in class, some of them are guaranteed to be on the mid-term. She gives lots of hints of the questions she will ask on tests.

Easy class, easy labs, some difficult material and a lot of Math. Boyce is very helpful and easy to talk to, have had her for a few classes. There is class participation via tophat, didn't really like it, seems pointless and just points out how many students don't care.

Dr Boyce is super chill and her lectures are fun! Actually talks about relatable stuff and she tells great stories about her personal life too. Her tests arent really memorization as much as interpretation and application. Dont need the textbook. Go to class for top hat questions!

She sometimes takes her test questions from the textbook online practice tests too. overall if you pay attention and put in a bit of effort it's a very straight forward class, GPA booster.

Really enjoyable and interesting lectures. Provides anecdotes and studies to reinforce concepts. WAY BETTER than SOCI 201 (She does not test you on random details from the textbook.) All material is from lectures and on slides. Saw she wouldn't have time to cover everything properly so took it out instead of rushing through it. Chilli pepper lol.

Just as majority on here, I loved her teaching, clarity and also how helpful, easygoing she is. I wouldn't call the class very easy, maybe it was a few years but it definitely is not really anymore. There are many small details and this class requires conceptual understanding. I would think, lectures are essential. 312 is super useful.

An amazing professor. As a geology major, I didn't need to take this class with her, however I enjoyed her lectures so much that I took the pre reqs for more advanced psych in order to take more classes with her. Very helpful and very clear on what she expects you to know. Also she doesn't require you to purchase the textbook, which is great.

Honestly this class was a GPA booster. Tests are straightforward because she tests you solely on her lecture notes. Since it isn't for majors, a lot of the questions from the mid terms are pretty much common sense. So as long as you listen and take notes during lectures and review the slides, you'll ace the midterms.

She really gives you a good feel for what psychology is all about as a career. I took 385 and 375 in psych and both of those classes were memorizing short term information and forgetting it. Boyce makes it stick with lots of really good application problems. Some of her difficult questions, however; were pretty unrealistic of what she taught@class.

Dr. Boyce is amazing! She is always there for her students, and really cares about them as well. You do need to work hard for an A as her tests are a bit challenging, but if you really pay attention, take good notes and ask questions you'll do great!

It is a GPA booster class. The concepts were very easy and Melissa was very good at being clear at explaining. She makes class engaging and fun. There are three mid terms which were all equally super easy. My advice is to just go to class and 80% of your studying is done from just listening to her.

Dr. Boyce is an amazing professor! She really knows her material, is organized, and very approachable. My tip would be to always go and see her about material you are unsure about because her exams are a on the hard side (it's not memorization but you need to apply the knowledge). I leave the course feeling like I learned a lot!

Melissa is awesome. By far my favourite prof. Lectures are super interesting and enjoyable. Tests can be kind of tricky but go to class and read through her notes and you will do very well.

Her lectures are amazing, really clear. If you go to all the lectures, you won't even need the textbooks. The TA was really bad though. If you get Clark as your TA, good luck.

Melissa is super nice and understanding. In my opinion, PSYC is a GPA booster but you have to be diligent in your studying. It's an easy course if you actually put some time into it and study properly for the tests. It's a lot of information but manageable. I would advise you to do half of the article evaluations and half of the research stuff.

Melissa is a really lovely professor - her material is not overly difficult, her lectures are clear and easy to follow, and she's funny. However, the tests are multiple choice and can be challenging at some times.

She posts podcasts and full notes online which is very useful if it's easier for you to learn math on your own versus in a giant lecture setting. It seems like she genuinely cares about the students and wants them to do well.

I absolutely loved having 312 with Melissa. She is incredibly talented at what she does and makes everyone feel comfortable tackling intimidating statistical analyses. Very helpful one on one if you need clarification on concepts or to review your exam. Her personability makes you feel honoured to have gotten the chance to take it with her.

This class is a required one for Psyc majors and honours students. So the exams are pretty hard and requires deep, extensive understanding. It is definitely doable if you go to every lecture and practice regularly, but if you are a non-major, stay away from this.

Melissa made the class a lot more manageable and interesting. Explained concepts really well and did a lot of examples in class for better understanding. Posted podcasts so attendance wasn't mandatory.

Melissa is awesome. We had a member in our group who had a family emergency and she was very accommodating and understanding. She is very friendly and passionate. Super approachable, tests were very fair and if you study, you can ace them no problem. Don't let the debate or group project scare you, they were awesome! She says no textbook needed.

Melissa is an amazing prof. I took this class as an elective and couldn't have chosen a better one. You actually get to learn a lot if you go to class and it is pretty entertaining if you take it seriously and pay attention. If you choose not to go to class, I would't say it's impossible to pass but you need to check her powerpoint presentations.

Boyce truly is a great prof, she genuinely cares about her students and their grades and doesn't try to trick you on any exams. She consistently keeps the class up to speed with what she expects from you. One downside, she talks, ALOT. It is important to find what is important in her ramblings but the material is VERY interesting. Show up, easy A.

Great speaker. Sometimes went on tangents but kept everything interesting. 3 midterms, not including the final that was easier than any of the midterms. Also a group project worth 12% that required a lot collaborative work. Attendance is mandatory if you want the top hat marks. Overall, would take again.

Dr. Boyce is the ideal professor. Lectures were very interesting (loved how she incorporated life stories). She is clear and made everything easy to understand but if you had questions she was very willing to help. One of the most modest, kindest and knowledgeable instructors. Highly recommended. Great lecturer. Introduced a group project this semester that was pretty painful to do, also brought down my grade. Gives out hints in lectures for midterms. Some questions on midterms were questionable but mostly fair if you study and go to class. Top hat and research participation makes up 8% for easy marks.

Melissa made lectures very entertaining and made it worth it to go to her class at 5pm. I'd say lectures are mandatory becaus some of the things she talks about in her lectures, are on the test but not in the notes. Most of the time she will tell you when something she's saying will be on the test. Definitely a fun prof that makes class easy!

I went into the class with a bad attitude on stats from all my friends who have taken stats courses. I left the year-long course contemplating having a statistics minor! She is not only really cool and funny, but she is a great person who genuinely cares about her students and wants them to do really well. Seriously, be excited about this class.

Responds so quickly to emails, and always welcoming questions and clarification. She uses visuals and videos throughout her presentation which are engaging. If you study her powerpoint and the notes you take in class you should be able to get a good mark.

Boyce is a real gem! Her lectures aren't stiff and boring, so it encourages you to come to class. Top Hat participation is worth around 4/5% and the group project is worth a decent amount. The midterms are not easy, but as long as you study theres no way you can fail. Textbook is kinda useful but not super, so share with a friend if you can.

Although on the first day of the lecture she had warned the class that this class would not change your life, it was a lie. This course heavily changed and influenced me as a first year university. You dig deeper into one's self identity and begin to learn more about yourself, which i found helped me to succeed in this course and other courses.

The class was a great experience. Her marking is extremely fair. The class is slightly less work than the usual 400-level psych class. Class attendance is key, she doesn't follow a textbook and you'll need to know the studies from class for the tests, you cannot get this from the slides alone. Plus Idk why you wouldn't want to go, she's great!

Dr. Boyce is beyond amazing. I hate math but loved this class. The labs are a little difficult but not to bad. The only thing I would say is that while it is hard to do poorly in this class it is also hard to do very well. Expect some form of B with little work but to get an A is difficult.

The term paper can be a doozy, but you get ample time to send in a draft and get it edited by her. As lecturers can sometimes be dry her classes I looked forward to going to. I cannot express how much I love Melissa in 350 characters! She takes material which may otherwise be boring and/or difficult and breaks it down so that its tangible and easily understood. Her lectures are SUPER interesting - and she obviously puts a lot of work into them. I haven't met a student didn't love her. Also she's really pretty and funny.

Dr. Boyce is a fantastic professor. I was worried about taking a "stats" class but Dr. Boyce kept things interesting and taught at a very good pace. My only issue is that the pace was a little too slow at the beginning and then was a little too fast at the end to try and make up for lost time. But overall an amazing class despite boring content.

The tests are straightforward, HOWEVER, if you think at a level that does not allow you to take basic concepts at face value, the tests tend to be vague, which could lead to a mark that is not necessarily an "Easy A" like advertised by some.

Melissa really is as great as you would think after reading all the great reviews. She makes a usually boring subject (Statistics) FUN, and engages with the class during lectures. Even if it is possible to do well without attending lectures, I highly recommend you do just because of how great she is!

Highest grade I've ever got in a math course! If you're like me (not mathematically inclined), Dr. Boyce is the prof for you. She made the material fun to learn and provided meaningful, easy to understand explanations. Reviewing the powerpoint slides BEFORE going to lecture will help you get the most out of class.

Dr. Boyce is an amazing professor. I would say class is not mandatory all the time as she does post lecture notes online. That being said, however, she does talk about studies she does not always put in her slides that do show up on exams. There are lots of opportunities to boost your grade so long as you do them. Really great prof. Everything taught in lectures is clear. Expectations on what to study for the tests are also clear. Reasonable marker. Just pay attention, take notes and you'll do great.

Melissa is hands down my fav teacher i've EVER had. I'm in my last sem haven't had her for a year but u WON'T REGRET taking her classes (I took almost all of hers). She is incredibly intelligent, caring, funny, and unbelievably helpful/supportive. I failed an exam and she did everything in her power to help me improve. 1000/10 would recommend.

Dr Boyce is seriously the best prof at this university, she is incredibly caring of her students and will answer every email her students send her, she mentioned in class that she spends 5hrs a night answering emails. She is so amazing and I feel like everyone at uni should take this course with her.

The only Prof I've had that responds to emails in 5min >. But fr, it seemed like no matter how hard I studied I just could not get high marks, the class average for most tests was 75. U will prob Ace this class if u are just general gifted in the application of knowledge

This woman is an angel on earth. Cannot say enough positive things about Melissa as a teacher and as a person. She places her students needs and concerns over anything and is the most accessible prof I have ever met. If you happen to be lucky to take any classes with her do it! She made stats make sense and I met with her a number of times to just talk about grad school and what classes I should take and she was more than happy to help out! She is truly a prof that cares

One of the best profs at U of C hands down. She places so much emphasis on ensuring all of her student's needs are looked after, and she is constantly working so hard. Also, she is absolutely hilarious and her lectures are so fun to attend (even though it's a dry course). Recommend x100!!

Dr. Boyce is a real gem. She cares so much about her students to make sure everyone is comfortable (the content is really dry). Recommend to anyone who needs to take 300 or 301 - take with her.

Wouldn't take this course with anybody else. Her lectures are so well-organized and she gives practice time IN CLASS! I would not have done as well as I did with any other professor and so glad to have taken Research Methods with her.

Doctor Boyce is an amazing prof! She's a passionate teacher who really does her best to make the class less dry. She's also really accessible outside of class (either in person or over email) and makes stats easy to learn!

Finished with a B- in Psyc300 and an A in Psyc301 and I wholeheartedly attribute that to Melissa and what an amazing prof she is. Its a shame she isn't teaching stats anymore because she is an amazing teacher and am amazing woman and anyone who gets to take a class with her is truly lucky.

Dr. Boyce changed my view on stats. Having really struggled with 300, I was wary going into this course, but Dr. Boyce made the content really easy to understand. As long as you practice and go to class, you can do really well while putting in an average amount of effort.

Dr. Boyce was very understanding as this course was online. She made sure we got all of our materials in time and even had review vodcasts before the midterm and final exam. She made the exams very fair and as long as you do the practice questions you would be fine. Would recommend taking psyc301 with her. A true gem.

I'm just re-iterating what other people have said, but Professor Boyce completely changed my outlook on stats. Psyc 300 was really difficult and vague for me, and she managed to simplify concepts and provide amazing examples. I would take stats again and again with her, she even manages to joke around and make you smile asynchronously. 10/10.

Melissa is a great professor, but this was a tough class! I think she has a great voice and brings enthusiasm to her lectures, but she can often get fixated with the material and distracted by the fact that she's presenting a class. Overall, study hard and early for the tests in this class, because they are challenging and very specific. Good luck!

She might have only taken over for Dr. Twyman for a little while, but she made the course worth it.

Probably the best professor I have had! She made the content so simple and easy to understand. She really drills the concepts in your head with her examples. Attend/watch the lectures, do the practice problems and you'll be just fine. She is an absolute gem!

Dr. Boyce was so unbelievably helpful! She took what has been a negative experience throughout university and gave guidance on how it can be turned around. It is the first time I have really felt heard and like someone understood the experiences I was facing throughout my whole career as a student at U of C. Unbelievably kind and understanding!
