What can I sa.. she knows how to teach, shes very nice, and EXTREMELY HOT!
She is very easy, gives you the questions on the tests
Very nice and helpful. Actually makes philosophy interesting and easy to understand. Tests are very easy, as are all the assignments in the class. Large extra credit opportunities given. Not too much work or reading. HIGHLY recommend her!!
melissa's a very dedicated and brilliant teacher. she's easy to understand and the workload is easy as well. as long as you participate (at least by paying attention) and write down the important lecture points you'll be fine. highly recommended.
When I first signed up for this class, I felt like it was going to be blah. But after the first week Professor Longo made what seemed to be a long semester into one I would thoroughly enjoy. I can tell she loves what she does and cares about her students.
Avoid if possible.
Great class! Homework isn't excessive and not that difficult, just takes time to complete. Very helpful and will work with you if you have problems. You have to read and study, but her handouts are the best. Only class I actually enjoyed this semester!
I thought she was a student when she first walked in, but she turned out to teach one of the most interesting classes Ive taken at ODU. Very nice instructor. (she should model on the side as well)
Ms. Longo is a great teacher. She is very easy to understand, and if you study, her tests are very straightforward. She lists all the requirements of her class and sticks to them. She is always willing to help her students. Highly recommended! :)
She is truly one of the best teachers. She makes the subject fun and she is very care-free and understanding. She offers a lot of extra credit and never thinks twice about spending time to help out a student. She is a GREAT teacher!
great teacher. very helpful. in the summer, show up everyday to get 2 pts added to your final grade. makes things very clear and she is very helpful. awesome lady overall

These students must have failed her class or something. Anyone who doesn't understand Ms. Longo must be stupid because she is incredibly clear and will do whatever she can to help if you are lost. She is definitely hot but just as smart! Highly recommend!
Very easy class, but you have to go to every class for clarity. The subject in general is hard to grasp but if you go to class she makes it very easy and fun to learn! There is some homework but it is not hard at all, just do it and show up to class and it is an easy A.
only class i actually learned something in

Professor Melissa is very hot and that is the one reason why I go to her class everyday
HOT, COOL, AND EASY GOING

Dont take any other Prof. Other than her!! Very EASY A if you do all the work, she doesnt aske for much at all.Gives easy HW and easy tests. SHe is young and you can talk about ANYTHING in her class. TAKE HER!!
probably the best phil. teacher ever!! TAKE HER CLASS.
She's a very clear and precise teacher, but the class is hard to pass. She only gives two tests, a midterm and a final, and homework.
Ms. Longo is a very nice and somewhat easy teacher. She is very clear and very cool. She is funny as hell. I would encourage you to participate in her discussions, she likes to discuss things. I would advise anyone to take her class. Plus she's young and hot!!!!
probably the hottest philosopher ever.

I had taken 110 w/ another professor the year before and failed horribly. I then took the same class w/ Longo and got an A+. The way she teaches it is awesome(philosophy as related to film and television). She does give homework, but it's only a few easy questions. She also reviews before exams and gives you all the questions! She is also nice
Smart, beautiful, and funny; she is not just the best philosophy professor, she is also the woman of my dreams! I had never had trouble paying attention in her class
SMOKIN' SUPER HOT!! That alone was worth it, OH YEAH!! The class was SUPER EASY too and you will learn things even if you are dumb. She dumbs down a lot of the material so her students can understand it, which I didn't care for that much, but all in all, come on man, SHE'S SMOKIN' SUPER HOT!! I would hit it in a minute...****, I would marry her.
She is a great teacher, she breaks down the lectures so that it is fairly easy to understand. Just make sure that you read the chapters she asks you to read, because it will help YOU retain the information and pass the quizes, midterm and final. Plus she is has a keen sense of humor. Take this class it is well worth it,and you will learn and have fun.
I thought philosophy was going to be hard and boring, but she made the class easy and fun. I really enjoyed this class.
I thought Philosophy was going to be a hard class, but this professor made it easy and fun. The class was long, but never boring. Quizzes and classwork was the only main grades other than the mid-term and final, which are both extremely easy. Read the AW book and you'll be set. Great teacher.
The class is hard at first, if you have no interest in philosophy, but, she makes it fun and wants you to learn the material. Just remember to show up to class, the quizzes are what hurt the people that don't show up. Overall, she's a great teacher. I didn't enjoy philosophy when I first signed up, but, she changed my outlook on it. Great teacher.
Too easy for a college class- however the quizes can be tough if you don't read the chapters. Buy the book and read through it-even if it is really boring!! This class was an easy A. (tip-don't give a speech by reading directly off your paper-it kind of irritates her).
If you sign up for this class, be prepared to discuss in class. She depends on discussion, and if she doesn't get it, she gets irritated. Super boring. Maybe it was just my class, but it seems like she's teaching like she's teaching to high schoolers. This class was a constant pain in my side.
Very nice and a good teacher. I thought she made the class interesting and didn't find her boring at all. Make sure you come to class because it helps for tests and papers. Didn't give quizzes this semester just 2 papers and 3 tests. Tests are multiple choice. And she gives extra credit in the form of journal entries.
Easy professor. Extra credit for attending classes. No quizzes. Requires discussion in her class, if it isn't talkative...she'll threaten quizzes, but never gives em. Only 2 papers, but given the option to make the grade from the first paper carry over to the second...so if you do well on the first paper, you don't have to write a second! Take her
ms. longo knows what shes talking about. tests are common sense mainly with some facts you have to know from the notes. dont really need to read. make sure you staple your paper before handing it in!!
Great teacher. She wants people to discuss so participate and the class will go by fairly quickly.
AWESOME! I learned a lot. Papers came easy because you are very knowledgeable about the information needed come paper time!
She's a very sweet teacher and is very understanding. She makes you participate and gives extra points at the end of the semester for participation. If you do the reading (which isn't a lot) you'll do well on the quizzes which are only 5 questions. She makes the class interesting and understandable. She's definitely my favorite teacher so far.
Great teacher! made me want to almost change my major to philosophy! Just come to class, and speak up, she likes an interesting class! She looks like she could be a student. Tests are easy if you really study. Readings are easy.
once compared plato to marx and said that he was the origional founder of communism. teaches the history of philosophy and not philosophy itself. Quite obvioius that shes an inexperienced teacher. i've had worse but shes not the best.
The person below needs to look up the definition of communism and read more about Plato. In my philosophy class we just finished talking about all of this. Plato's philosophy was a form of communism, just like Marx's theory is another form of communism (socialism). Anyway, just do your reading. You'll understand and find the class interesting.
She's good, I guess. I hate philosophy and still do, but she's an ok teacher. Her quizzes are really random, and you NEED a textbook. But her tests are open notebook so she's cool
very interesting class with great discussions, will do great if like to share ideas
This class was ok. There is a lot of reading. She gets mad if students don't participate and can't answer her questions. Also she gives pop quizzes, which are kind of hard. The tests are open notebook, but they aren't that easy. I liked the professor at first, but by the end I was annoyed.
She's a pretty good teacher. If she gives a reading assignment your best bet is to read because she gives quizzes on the reading assignments. If you read the quizzes are easy. All tests were open book but just because they were open book didn't make them easy. Also expect to participate. Participation is a big part of her class.
Reading philosophy is really hard but she makes this ancient boring stuff relevant and interesting by relating it to everyday things in life and movies. There's alot of discussion questions but she gives them so you can understand what you read. They seemed like high school homework at first, but they helped me grasp the material so I am thankful
She seems a little stiff but once you get to know her shes pretty cool
She is a very informative teacher. She gives a substantial amount of homework. its not a lot of questions just a lot of discussion and whys. She wants participation, thats the biggest thin in her class. midterm AND final are open notebook.BIG HELP. still need to look over though. Do homework just participate a couple of times a week and your good.
Greatest teacher ever. She really cares about the subject and it comes out in her lectures. I had no desire for this class before it started, but she changed my mind and I really enjoyed it. The work is not hard, and she really explains it. You must participate in class, but she makes it fun. w

She's the best professor I have ever had. She really cares about the subject, and you can see it in her classes. You must participate in her classes, but it really helps The class is very thought provoking and fun. I wish more profs were like her. w
Very nice Professor, assignments are fairly easy, class discussions are fun (participation is 15% of your grade and you can earn extra credit for ectrodinary participation if you also do your homework) Very nice teacher and she knows philosphy (it was her major).
Great teacher....hard to find that. wish I had teachers like her this semester. Interesting classes.. relatively easy assignments..GREAT exam reveiws
Great professor. Wrting assignments are not that hard but she really expects you to elaborate on your opinions in them. I have taken one test so far and it was easy. Friendly and kind person. Take her if you possibly can she makes class interesting and fun
This is NOT a 100 level course. Her voice is whiny, there is WAY too much reading and writing. Here test are open NOTES but after all the note taking, some questions were never discussed. She is kinda cute, so I'll give her that. I hope she reads this! People take more than THREE credits, so CHILL on the workload! Says said Aristotle cute too:)
I had her when her name was Professor Longo in 2006. It was my favorite gen ed class. The class was hard but it kept me thinking alot... still does. I recommend, but not if you don't like to read.
1 of my favorite prfessors! She is kind and understnding and does not mind re-explaining something. This semester we have had a total of four writing assignments and we are finished w/ those(we also ha 1 ex. credit writing that was optional) The tests are EASY. if you are soming to class, doing the reaqding and also she allows you to use all yourno
Writing Assignments can be a little difficult as she wants a lot of elabopration, but we only had four for the whole smester (+ one optional extra credit assignment that she gave as everyone did poorly obn one of the assignments). Also her tests are super easy and she lets you use all your notes and notes sheets (which she post on Bb after class)
If you go to class, do the reading, make sure you expand on your papers, and speak up in class then you should be able to get an A or at least a B+ She is very kind, and willing to explain things that you are confused about
she is a good teacher, but is too hard on students.
Overall Bristow is ok. Shes not as bad as people make her out to be. All you really have to do in her class is do the reading assignments and PARTICIPATE in inclass discussions. Their a huge part of your grade. The writing assignment are intensive and long, but you'll only get about 4 a semester.
If you like to do a lot of work take her class. dont go to study days cause she wont help you even though she says she will. she is strict on everything and if you dont do the hw actually how she wants it you will fail. Philosophy is okay just DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!
You will learn a lot in her class but she is way too hard on students. Homework assignments are CRAZY hard. Take this class only if you want to do A LOT of work. I thought it was way too much for a one hundred level class. This class was my most intensive one of the whole semester, hated it.
She?s a great teacher. The only way for you to fail this class is if you?re LAZY and don?t read what she assigns. She gives good lectures, answers your questions, and posts all the information you will need on Blackboard, AFTER EVERY CLASS! She helps on study days; she?ll answer your questions, but she?s not going to repeat a lecture for you.
She is hot, articulate, strict, not bad teach
She has a very long syllabus with everything you need to know, and she is good about using blackboard for ODU. She also likes a lot of detail in writing assignments. She gives her students a lot of work, but if you go to every class and pay attention you should do fine.
Easy enough class if you attend. Requires detailed homework. She is a good teacher, and easy to follow. Does not accept late work at all
She comes off as a nice lady but is a very strict teacher. Not approachable. She requires 8-10 sentences in homework answers when the answer should only be 5-6. Tests are fairly easy if you do your homework, but if you miss a hw, it greatly affects your grade, no exceptions. Class participation is required, but she calls on the same people daily.
Melissa is a great professor. One of the best in my opinion. Very clear, concise, and helpful when you need additional help. She makes her class interesting, educational, and fun. We need more professors like this at school!
I'm cutting and pasting part of a message she posted on blackboard: "With HW #3 ? those handwriting their names, not stapling, not having proper font, etc. will, in most cases, automatically receive a check minus. Take the time to follow directions." She is the most immature elementary school teacher i've had in college.
its a really fun class. shows u movies to help explain cRAZY stuff. allott of homework but you can skip any 3 yu want to but she-ll take off for bad writing or spelling wich sux. oh and she wants to you expand all the time so dont rush homework - trust me. a kid next to me write paragrafs and does good. hard and takes time but still fun tho.
She was a great teacher. Only wants to teach into because she wants kids to have a good understanding of phil. Homework got a bit long at time but all you have to do is ask her questions back to get a better grade. Paper and presentation at the end were easy. Tests are easy if you scan the book and take notes.
Cute-hot. Verbal participation in class AND group work is required! No quizzes and exams are super easy. Did about 3 written reports but she gives them 7-10 days in advance. Book + reading obviously a part of the course. Will use movie clips like the Matrix to show/explain concepts. Basically, take her for an A.
This class is one of my best. She uses modern examples when explaining concepts that the ancient Greeks came up with, to make it clear. It's interesting to have different perspectives shared in class about something or someone. Do the questions on Blackboard under "Daily course objectives" because those are the study guide questions for the test.

Bristow is an easy A. 3 tests and 3 HW grades basically make up your grade, so make it all count. If you got anything less than a C in this class you either didn't do any work or you aren't good at writing. If you email her with a question, she won't just give you a yes/no, but a paragraph explanation. No Final. Just 3 tests, not cumulative. A+.
Professor Bristow is a good teacher, a little uptight, but she loves what she teaches and that helps. Philosophy is a hard subject and she is a hard grader but if you go to class and take notes you'll do just fine. She also gives extra credit for participating in class, so don't be afraid to speak up.
This class is really interesting, attendance is a grade and extra credit, also she does offer participation as extra credit. Does a lot group work (in class). And really expects you to read ahead of time. She is also open for questions and help. Class is not hard at all, just a little time consuming with the writing assignments.
Ms. Bristow is an amazing professor. She does everything she can to help you get a good grade, and is very clear. The class is fun and she uses modern examples to help you understand. She is there to help you when you need her whether it be for the class or personally. I would take any class she taught. Attendance and participation are important
I can honestly say Ms. Bristow is an amazing teacher. The only reason I can think of anyone giving her a poor score would be if they failed the class for lack of effort. She makes her subject interesting and does everything she can to help you. I take her classes even though I don't need them. She taught me a lot in class and personally. Easy class
She's great! She seems strict at first, but it's to wield the people out. Class participation and attendance are required, but it's 15% of your grade--helps out a lot! A lot of reading, but the quizzes and tests are extremely easy as long as the homework is done! She's approachable and will help you out if you get to know her and participate!!
Great class, great teacher. Attendance very mandatory but it's a big chunk of your grade. You must also speak up in class and not sit there and be quite. Easy A if you do what you need to. Plus she is super hot!!!!!
Easy teacher, but you will learn a lot. Gives review sheets for each exam online. You can boost your grade with her philosophy journals if you don't do well on the exam. TAKE HER!
very detailed oriented class attendance and PARTICIPATION are 30% of your grade. Journals and participation is what will help you to pass this class.test are directly related to the class no trick questions and if you just review the review sheet you got an "A" on the test
Very good teacher. She expects you to participate (and by so doing you usually have to do your reading) - but gives review sheets for all tests, journal entries (you have to put effort in but not too bad), and otherwise lectures are brief and clear. very good teacher overall, not bad to look at either although I wouldn't say she's smoking hot.
I love Mrs. Bristow! Her class is so interesting and its fun too! However, be prepared for a lot of critical thinking. Class is mandatory and part of your grade, so as participation. If you go to class, speak up at every class, put effort in journals, and study the review sheets...then you should get a B or an A!
I really like Ms. Bristow. She has deep interest in what she teaches and that shows. She's also very open to other ideas. She uses examples in her lectures that, as young people, would be familiar with and it is a verbal class which is nice because you don't have to sit around writing the entire class. I recommend her so much.
GREAT TEACHER! Pretty much the easiest class I've ever taken. Lots of reading but it's important because everything from the test is from the reading. She loves philosophy, you can tell. Definitely eliminates all stereotypes of philosophy. I've actually really started to like philosophy. Class is very interesting.
Professor Bristow is awesome!! She's very straight forward about what she expects out of her students in her syllabus. Most of all she.wants her students to talk! Trust me it helps your grade, flow of the class, & helps you understand the material. This is one of those classes you like to attend which is great bc attendance affects your grade.
She is one of my favorite teachers. She keeps the class interested and welcomes all opinions. The main grade in the class is the journal, make sure you do lengthy journals and she offers alot of extra credit. Pick her.
This professor was amazing! I knew nothing about philosophy and thought it would be a horrible class. After the class, I love it and want to take more. She makes sure that you understand the material and is very clear about her expectations! Follow them and you get an A. It would be very hard to fail this class.
Fantastic teacher, I recommended her to anyone. Go to class and participate. Quizzes are online and the class the day before a test is to just ask questions and study. Awesome class and awesome material. She makes it interesting.
Went into this class thinking it would be awful simply from word of mouth. She proves all stereotypes of philosophy wrong. Participate, do lengthy journals, and be polite and you'll get an A. Tests are objective but she welcomes all subjective opinions in class discussion. Responds quickly to emails. Best professor at ODU. Oh, and she's gorgeous.
Class is not easy but she is a good professor. Reading quizzes were very difficult. Tests were easy. Participate a lot and show up to class. The final is a presentation of an ethical issue and was easy. Most of the time you just go to class and talk so it's pretty fun. Very little notes, which is good.
I would highly recommend taking this professor. I had to take this class for grade forgiveness with an awful professor, and she went out of her way to help me. The class was full, but she happily overrode it for me. She makes philosophy relate to everyday life which really helps. Easy A if you do what you're supposed to.
She is very helpful if you ask, her lectures are clear. If you do the reading and attend class you will do great.
Great Professor. The reading is boring and mandatory but the in class discussions truly add clarity to the material. Great teaching style. Participate in class, do the reading, and complete the review guides she provides and this is an easy A.
LOVEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD HER!!! she is so helpful and such a genuine person once you get to know her! She is so passionate and wants her students to succeede!! By far one of my fav professors at ODU!!! -Beza
really sweet professor and is very passionate about what she teaches. I really enjoyed having her this semester, her class taught me so much
Super easy class! Tests are the study guide, and easy papers. You do need the book though.
What a wonderful teacher! If you do the readings and come to class it's an easy A. Not only that but I find that the classes are very enjoyable. At first she made us all talk in group discussion and we hated it but now it's one of the best parts of the class. Overall, very helpful, insightful, and friendly. Highly recommend!
The class itself isn't hard at all, but sometimes you can tell the professor is over it and seems a little rude if you watch her. Other than that, MAKE SURE YOU PARTICIPATE. 30% of your grade is participation and meeting new people. So if you like to socialize take her!
I loved her class. The class went by pretty fast for a night class. Participation counts for a lot of your grade. She will kick you out if you're on your phone texting etc. You can miss one class without penalty, but don't plan on making it a habit. Book was $40 to rent and you will need it. Take her and see the world a little differently.
Mrs. Bristow sticks to her syllabus. DO NOT MISS A QUIZ. There are two types. 1 of which you can take until you get 100. She is a fairly laid back teacher however if you cannot go the whole class period without your phone do not take the course you will get zeros across the board. Overall great teacher, she loves what she does.
If you want an easy A take her class. You grades reset for the second section so you can do nothing up until October and then start doing work. The final is NOT cumulative. You can retake some quizzes. Extra credit for not missing a class. She loves what she does. Fair grader. Tests are similar to quizzes. Homework is light. Just take the class.
You would really be doing yourself a favor by taking her class. Great teacher and her teaching style makes it easy to learn the material. lots of participation and group conversations, all very enlightening. I would really advise you to take her, especially for philosophy!
If you still need to take your philosophy gen. ed. take it with her. She is fair grader. She is passionate about her subject and even though it was a three hour class she keeps the class lively. Take her, do the assignments, show up to class, read the chapters, and get an A. That simple
she is a great teacher, keeps the class entertaining we had a few in class group activities no presentations. test are pretty simple and straight forward. She is very strict with cheating and phone usage in class.
I loved Professor Bristow! Philosophy is generally a difficult subject to grasp but she made it so easy by relating it to things in real life. She's very pleasant and encouraging. The only thing is she will assign new seats every couples classes, but she's good at making everyone comfortable. Also, participation is MANDATORY and GRADED.
Professor Bristow is an amazing professor. She is very considerate and willing to work with you so you can understand the material. If you want to pass, its important to do the assigned readings, attend the lecture, and participate. Overall, I really enjoyed her class and would definitely recommend her.
Participation mandatory, moves groups around to facilitate discussion.
Her Philosophy 110P is by far the easiest class I've taken so far. I had her for a night class once a week, so attendance really mattered. There are no notes to take when she lectures; participation makes up a HUGE component of your grade though, so if you don't contribute you're kinda screwed.
I loved this class and Professor Bristow. She's a really sweet woman and makes ethics fun. There's a lot of group discussion in her class so participation matters. She gives you the sections of the textbook you need to read for free. Just show, participate, and read the sections before the test and you'll get an A.
Professor Bristow made this class awesome! I couldn't imagine taking it from anyone else. She made the class interesting and fun. Participation is a must so make sure you read the material before class. If you go to class, participate, read the material and the teacher's notes, complete the study questions for the midterm and final, it's an easy A.
Professor Bristow is a very caring and passionate individual about teaching and philosophy! I learned so much about how things used to be in our world and how things in the past are connected to our modern world presently. Success in this course requires a lot of reading, participation, and exams. Come to class prepared at all times!
The professor really cares that you are grasping the concept of Philosophy. She is very helpful and the only requirement is that you print off the readings and bring your printouts. This class is verbal, so participation is a must. If you are looking for a Philosophy class that doesn't require writing papers, then this the class for you.
Prof Bristow is one of my favorite instructors, the class itself is very easy as long as you participate in class discussions and study for exams. If you are afraid to speak in class, she even gives additional opportunities to do assignments to compensate for lack of talking. This class requires a lot of team exercises, but good overall. take her!
You really don't need to do much. Just show up and participate in class and you'll be good. It's discussion heavy and you should read the material before hand but if you don't you'll be fine. I'd take her again if I could.
Overall, there is a lot of reading and the lectures can be kind of long. She is such a sweetheart and engages with the class very well. If you do all she asks you, there is no reason to not get an A. Just show up and prepare yourself for the class discussions and it's an easy A.
Very sweet
At the beginning of the semester, she assigned a paper in which she graded very harshly. The lectures are mainly you talking among peers about ethics which was amazing because I made very close friends. Take good notes because the exams are difficult but if you come to class, participate in class discussions, and take notes you should be fine.
