When you are her to clarify something she can't answer you unless it is in her slides that she reads word for word from. She treats us like liitle kids, tells us to Shut Up & calls us You people. If we don't understand something, she tells us to Just do it How professional!? She likes to see everyone struggle & test us at a masters level & laughs

Overall I was happy with my grade in this course. She sucks teaching this course. Doesn't explain nothing that she wants from the assignments. Offered 20 points extra credit to do an presentation, because everyone wasn't doing well. She is very rude and gives everyone attitude. She shouldn't teach this course.
The course was very difficult; but Professor Hendley was always willing, answer my questions after class and through emails. She was always willing to offer help and I appreciated the opportunity that she gave us for extra credit.
I agree with the last entry that she is a really good teacher.
Knowledgeable & willing to help, obviously new to teaching. Not very tactful in handling confrontational situations or questions asked by students. I did well in the class, but was EXTREMELY bored! The previous comment about reading directly from slides was true. Read her notes before class & you won’t miss a thing! Another thing--DON'T be late!
This professor needs more experience teaching. I learned more about Smart Ben and the Bank where she is employed.
This professor is RUDE and talks down to students to make herself feel more superior. She definately need more experience. You would think that having a degree in HR would allow her to be more people oriented...but thats not the case. She gave 20 extra credit points out of a 100point class to make up for all the bad things people were saying.
She thinks that she looks like Jessica Simpson and acts even dumber than she did on Newlyweds. Keeps us until 9:50 every night and just reads from her slides. She slaps you in the face with a 20 page business case in the middle of the semester (it's in the syllabus but there's no info on it in there). Overall terrible progessor, take Roytek.
She was awesome professor.Always there when you needed to ask her about projects and very prepared for class. I would recommend taking her
confusing....
She is very personable and makes sure you understand the material. We had a review the week before the exam which proved very helpful. She can also take a joke so class isn't so dry. I loved the class and got a 4.0. Note: She is pretty easy on the eyes...
This professor is not clear on the assignments and is just too dumb. She only has a Masters degree, any student can teach this class! You will lose all interest in this class if you take her for it. She kept her cell phone on and would answer it during class! Talk about leading by example, if she is an example, don't go to into the HR program.
She has lots of activities with participation in her class. Gave us uncertain information on her requirements for the projects though.
As an Instructor she is very good. She is willing to help you if you are struggling in the class and make you understand the material better. I'm amazed at the people that rated her strictly on her personality and that is completely unfair. She may act "different" at times but she teaches the material effectively which is most important
The rating from 7/3/08 is craziness. This teacher is amazing and she made my fear of 423 disappear. I even had it in an 8 week course. She is clear and cares about if we understand the material or not. The class is not hard, just tedious. She is smart and makes the class fun. I would definately take her.
Horrible Professor. Do not take unless you absolutely have to. I loved 310, but 423 with this professor was horrible! Annoying personality, just gives out handouts and expects you to understand everything without explaining anything. Also be sure to have word 2003 and not 2007 because she does not know how to do anything in 2007.
Professor Hendley is a tough professor, though I believe she wants her students to succeed in the real world. I would recommend her.
The weight of this labor intensive course is heavily felt because she does not teach well. She'll hand you a hand-out and basically have you fend for yourselves. The peer review ends up being a joke because the peers that you hand your papers to are just as lost as you are. Yes there is much to do, but that is not prefaced by learning how to do it.
The work load in this class is more than the work in three classes put together. She is not really helpful and pretty much leaves you to fend for yourself. Alot of work and I would reccommend NOT taking her in the summer.
Alright, as you all know this is one of the most chllenging classes in the HRD Program so what do you expect when it comes to the workload? Please, don't be surprised when she shows the amount of work required.I completed this class during Spring in 8 weeks with 3.8. Don't complain about the professor when your lack of commitment is the issue.
Every single person who rated this before and said the teacher was terrible is clearly just lazy and probably did bad in the class and is blaming the teacher. She actually is an amazing teacher who goes out of her way to make sure everyone understands. The work is very do-able as well. I got a 4.0 in the summer semester no problem.Love the teacher!
BEST teacher by far. A few things YOU the student should be/do: 1.Be on time 2.Do the work ON time 3.Follow directions and format 4.Put in A LOT of time for assignments. I had HRD310 a long time ago and was worried about doing well. It's a matter of doing the assignments as outlined and doing them ON TIME. It's a 400 level class, work is expected.
Expect to work hard, as the work load is demanding. Professor Hendley is fair and does demand a lot from her students. I appreciate this because I actually learn what I need to know to be prepared in this field. Thanks for everything!!
Melissa is awesome. She's real, young and engaging. Though the workload is a lot, she literally tells you step by step what to do. Just go to class, participate, and its THAT simple. Anyone who thinks otherwise probably didn't do so hot..
This professor is completely incompetent when it comes to Word. She tells you to create your footers as text boxes. She also believes she explained some things when she never has. She is not very approachable and once when I emailed her asking a question she stated that we had already discussed it in class. She thinks her way is the only way.
She started of the class saying all the bad things we've heard about her were only from lazy students who didn't want to do the work. Well honored her time line. Now she wants to have everything due a month early because her doctor said she MIGHT have her baby early. Now everyone is stressed and what we heard about her end up being true.
Professor Hendley was a decent professor. Her work load was a lot but she is fair. Some may not of liked her because she is stuck in her way and her way only. At the end of the day I learned a lot from her class. I was a bit upset that we had to change our schedule due to her pregnancy, but we had the chance to end the class earlier.
Hands down, TERRIFIC. You work hard, you learn A LOT, respect given, gets respect. She knows her stuff, She knows the material. Yeah, she expects it done a certain way = THE BEST WAY. I 4.0 the class by showing up, participating, and asking questions. ITS THAT STUIPD SIMPLE
I don't recommend this Professor. She makes the class WAY harder than it needs to be. The workload is pretty heavy, and if you do not have a good group, you're pretty much screwed. The exam was extremely difficult and encompassed material we did not even discuss in class. My GPA lowered heavily in this class. Take someone else!!!
Although it was hard, this was one of the only classes in which I was challenged. If you do all your work, attend every class, ask questions, address any issues your team might be having, you will do fine!! She grades fair and doesn't mind helping when you need it. She also did the class a favor by finding a program to evalate.
I wasn't in love with this professor's teaching style, but she did teach me a lot. She knows her material front and back and is very organized. She was always willing to help when needed and enjoyed getting to know her students. One big group project and a Final. If you do your work and study notes, you will pass this class with an A.
Class was not super difficult as we did the large amount of the class in a group. You will need to study for final exam as she wanted to make sure you knew what the concepts were. You have to know what you were doing all semester. I personally did well but also studied for the final and paid attention to the lectures. I definitely learned in this class, but also had to work.
Was always willing to help through e-mails and in class. Helped me a lot with assignments an made it very clear what she wanted throughout. Would definitely recommend her.
GREAT Professor! The best professor at OU. She is tough! She expects you to work. You will work hard but it pays off. If you pay attention, go to class and really put in the effort this class will teach you so much more than any other HRD course.
Absolutely horrible professor. She knows her stuff but if you don't know it she makes you feel stupid in front of the whole class. Quizzes and Exams are all essay based. Hard grader. Extremely detail oriented which makes her classes difficult. Wouldn't recommend to her to anyone.
Don't listen to the negative reviews. If you want to get your money worth out of a class and learn real life applicable material then take 402 and 423 with this professor. Above average workload, fair grading, very clear about what she expects. She is extremely knowledgeable and has a ton of experience in HR. One of my favorite professors at OU.
I just had this professor the other day and I actually asked her about all the awful things on here in front of everyone. She answered my every question with respect. All the bad is not true. She is pretty down to earth and extremely friendly. I have a lot of respect for her now. In fact she just became my favorite professor.
The workload in this class is ridiculous. I spent more time working on this class than my 3 jobs and other classes combined. Professor is so overbearing and intense that the entire class needs a drink by the time it is over.
Prof. C. is up-front & honest about expectations. If you work hard, you'll succeed. The only way to fail is to blow off the class. This is a 400-level class & a capstone, so working hard is expected. She is energetic & engaged, & has the real-world experience to back up what she teaches. Excellent instructor.
If others had to suffer with the "devil" so should you... good luck. Hope you get a good group and only take this class if you can or very easy other classes. She thinks the world revolves around only her and her class. Don't even think about having a personal life. Assignment over load, not necessary for the class to be taught this way.
Pray you have a great group, or be prepared to pick up A LOT of slack. This class is a lot of work, and Prof C is very specific on what she expects. Pay attention and don't be that dummy asking a question she just spent an hour explaining. She tells you what to do to keep you on track, if you don't do it when she says thats on you! She's Amazing!!
Professor Curtis-Hendley is a great professor and knows what she is talking about. I loved the say she taught the material, it made it easier to retain the information. However, the amount of workload in this class is almost unbearable. Expect 60-80 hours of homework (this is not a joke). There is a group project and two huge individual assignments
Professor Hendley wants everyone to succeed. She is not kidding when she says this class will consume all of your time! It a ton of work but its easy busy work. Not a hard class at all just TONS of work. She is extreamly helpful and always available for questions. Follow her feedback and you will pass with an A. Take this class over the summer!!!
Professor Hendley is not there for her students! The lecture takes so long you have no time to ask questions. And if you have a question you must make an "appointment". But she's always too busy to actually even schedule one of those! She rambles on for 3 1/2 hours when she knows students only retain half of the lecture.
I. loved. this. professor. She was knowledgeable. She gives her expectations upfront. Everything you need for assignment direction is either in the syllabus or on Moodle. Yes, there is a big group project and a big individual project. She provides excellent feedback the whole semester. She was a great professor. No need to be frightened. :)
Honestly, you learn a lot and I commend her for having a lot of prior knowledge and knows her stuff but her attitude is ridiculous. If you have questions you have to schedule an appointment she doesn't have time to answer any of them in class. When she say to have the assignments done at a certain time, follow it! It's a lot of workload .
She was trying to get me to completely redesign my training course, despite completing the prerequisite course successfully for HRD 423. I dropped & took HRD 423 with a different professor. The new prof took no issue with my training course. Prof Curtis-Hendley makes it more challenging than it needs to be and isn't as open with students.
She is absolutely amazing! This class is not HARD, but you cannot procrastinate. You should attend all classes so you do not miss any important information. She makes the learning process so easy, and the class so enjoyable. I wish she taught more classes!
DO NOT TAKE HER!! Find another professor QUICK!! She has WAY TOO MANY projects she expects you to spend 60hrs on just her class alone (which isn't possible for people with jobs, other classes and oh yeah LIVES!) She is the worst professor too many expectations not enough time. Her lectures are all class hour sometimes running over.
Don't miss class. There are only 100 points, so you have to give 100% on all of the assignments. Class participation is mandatory unless you want extra readings and quizzes. Tons of group work/presentations and a group project. The individual project is worth 50% of your grade. Do not take this class unless you have light work hours or semester.
Since apparently I have said bad things about her before I'll just post my bit on here. The class is difficult, do not take it during the summer. As for her personal teaching method it is different to say the least. She does not do PowerPoint and writes everything on the board. She gives a group assignment that is totally unnecessary. Stay away!
STOP COMPLAINING! I heard awful things but taking her now, she is awesome! Do not be intimidated. As long as you do what she says, you will be fine. Taking it in the summer was the best choice (she makes it a little bit easier). Do not be afraid! she is great, and it is the only HRD class that actually requires work. But no tests or quizzes!
I'm currently in her class right now and while the workload is a lot, you learn so much. She can be strict, welcome to the real world. Absolutely do not procrastinate in this class or be ready to either fail or have a bunch of unnecessary late nights of work. The work isn't hard but extremely tedious. Overall she's one of the best profs I've had.
Professor Curtis is an awesome instructor, instructional designer and mentor. If you actually want a taste of what instructional design is like in the real world, take her class. She gives a lot of assignments for emphasis and understanding. If you're lazy, you will not do well. Instead of complaining, grow up and do your assignments.
It's not an easy pass. Don't miss a lecture or you will regret it. She's enthusiastic and actually likes to hear what the students have to say about a topic. She writes notes on the board while lecturing, I really enjoyed that. She tells it like it is. She wants her students to be successful in class. Don't waste her/your time if you don't try.
Honest and legit conversations. Work load is average. You're provided with handouts for what the assignment requires in detail, if you don't understand then she provides time to help you. She's the real deal when it comes to "real world" expectations. If you are respectful, then she will respect you. Class time is valuable so don't miss it.
4 years into my professional career I was trying to remember what Melissa taught me about instructional design/program evaluation. She knows what she's doing. If you're serious about being a well rounded HR professional, heed her advice especially when it comes to training/program evaluation.
Class was based around a group project, good group good grade. Work load is a little more than average, but nothing that'll drive you insane. She's very loud, bubbly and outgoing. Not the worst professor!
Very loud is RIGHT and not in a good way! Voice is like nails on a chalkboard. Worst teacher ever. Extremely unprofessional and not an effective instructor at all. Unorganized throughout the semester and was more concerned about her personal life than anything else. Don't waste your time with her! Find a different teacher!
Meh. Not the greatest I have had, but definitely not the worst. If you give a crap, you'll be just fine. I would probably take her again if I had the chance.
She can be very intimidating at first, especially with all the horror stories Ive heard. However, she wasnt that bad. She just really pushes you to your full potential and expects you to do the work and implement everything that shes taught. I liked her. There was a grading curve that saved my behind and Im so grateful to her.
Professor Curtis-Hendley is a good professor when it comes to what she needs to teach you. She explains the content and expectations of each assignment and makes the class fun. Participation and attendance is vital as you are graded on it. Negative qualities wise, she can be rude and come off mean to her students. Just do your work and youll pass.
Professor C is one of the best teachers for instructional methods. If you listen to her you will do good. She will make sure you understand the concept. Definitely Content heavy class, so don't expect to get an easy A. If you work for it, you will pass easy. She is detail oriented. She gives good feedback. Take notes because you will need it.
prof c is horrible, and SO RUDE!!!!! she does not care about students shes very demeaning, and pokes at all of her students and only cares about talking about her life, which drag on forever. if you are signed up with her i suggest dropping her ASAP. AVOID!!!!!!!! if i could give her a zero rating i would.
she is the worst professor ever, and loves to say "help me understand" when its the simplest thing, which is funny because as an instructor, she seems to always be confused, therefore she clearly isn't fit to teach the hardest class in the HRD program, and loves to RIP her students apart and make them feel worthless. 0/10, i dropped her ASAP!!!!
i wish i could give her a 0 rating because of how much she made me hate this class. i have never felt more worthless in a class and she made me cry once too. i am a 4.0 student and excel in all of my classes except this one. i BARELY passed and i wish i took this with someone else. avoid her at all costs, she will ruin your life, and GPA.
Awesome teacher, I learned so much from her. Not sure why people are leaving negative feedback, this is one of the best teachers I had at Oakland University so far. Don't expect to come in and do nothing and get an A. You are expected to do your part and she will give you good feedback if you improve, you will 100% pass the class.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER. She's so rude to her students&has no remorse for them. She doesn't care what anyone has to says her way or the highway. She's a tough grader&tough minded. Her mind is set on her opinions/rules. You will never convince her wrong. She thinks very highly of herself. Wants students to fail&sets them up for failure. DO NOT TAKE!
She was a nice person one-on-one but when it came to group lecture she was not. When asking questions she makes you feel like you're stupid for even asking, because should've already known that. She is also SO loud. By the time we were finished I would have a huge headache, and she would use the class period up until the minute. Attendance is HUGE.
I would never take this class or teacher again. I had this professor for "Presentation and Facilitation", a partially online course. The weeks we had class online we had to complete activities during the regular class time. In class meetings I felt called out constantly and even commented on the look on my face to the entire class. Very arrogant
I took this professor for HRD 3330 and would not recommend. It turns out I didn't need this class for credit for my major but didn't find out until the end of the semester. Course work is time consuming and she is a tough grader. When you try to email her for clarification on assignments she gave me short and rude responses. Not recommend.
Enjoyed Prof. C's class. She cares about her students and obviously wants to see them succeed.
I took her for Program Evaluation, but SHE needs to EVALUATE herself as a professor because she did not post grades until less than a week before grades were due! She was nice during the virtual lectures, but could be nasty when corresponding via email. If you dont have time to grade, then dont teach!
Worst prof ever. VERY RUDE. In-class experience was awful. I dreaded going to class. Very unclear guidelines for the big projects. No helpful feedback. Got annoyed when I asked for help. Graded very harshly. Our grade was 10% without a rubric. Just whatever she felt like. Only class I ever failed. Took class again with another prof and got an A.
Moodle sessions opened late. Assignment submission links not opened without prompting. Slow to grade. Syllabus was a loose guideline for her to decide to make changes and not communicate. Work full time, 8 credit hours and struggled to plan ahead and with the lack of set set scheduling and last minute changes.
Absolutely awful. Do not take this professor. She is rude and ill prepared most of the time and grades so harshly that it is basically impossible to get a good grade on anything because she is painfully picky with what she wants. If you do not show up to a zoom meeting where she talks FOREVER, you dont get the 15% participation grade.
Oh how i wish i could have dropped this class when i had the chance. This woman is unbelievable rude! both on zoom and via email! Like she does not care about her students at all and thinks so highly of herself! I hope i somehow pass because right now its not looking good.
Opened assignments late almost every week, slow to respond to questions, and curt in her responses. She lectured about the importance of students getting the same learning experience regardless of the instructor and all I can say is thank goodness other instructors in the hrd peogram aren't as narcissistic and egotistical as she is.
DO NOT TAKE HER
Tough grader took points off every small thing on the assignments. she is slow with responding to emails. No quizzes or test.
Projects are hard and overwhelming even given a week to complete them. She responded with an attitude the couple times I emailed her. She hasn't been attentive much since she's been out of town a lot this semester. A few of our grades were 100% just for completion, which is fine, but we worked hard on these assignments.
She's very rude!!!! Doesn't care about her students!!!! Also she takes the most points of the smallest things. I don't recommend her at all! The assignments don't make sense. She got an attitude when I would ask her for help.
AVIOD HER if you don't want to fail. She makes the course more difficult than it is. She takes forever to grade. she grades hard. I would've got an A+ with a different professor.
If you can avoid taking a class with Curtis, I would advise doing so. The assignments she gives makes no sense and multiple of my classmates has told me she is very rude, and takes DAYS responding to emails. She marks you down for simple stuff. Most stressful class I have taken at OU
