She was VERY easy! No tests, only essays; in-class essays often and a few out of class assignments overall EASY class! Reading is short little essays, nothing long.
If you like english she is great, if you hate english, atleast she's hot!
She is such a sweetheart. She truly cares how you do in her class and will assign extra credit to raise your grade if needed. She teaches well, explains essays really good, and doesn't assign alot of work. A few in class essays, no tests! If you struggle with english, she really will help you out.
Awesome teacher i lovved her always helps out and i understood every essay we had to write about because she explained it. Im taking her next semster for enc1102
SHE IS AN AWESOME PERSON AND TEACHER. SHE IS ALWAYS SMILING AND IN A GOOD MOOD. SHE OFFERS HELP ANYTIME WHEN NEEDED. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TAKING HER FOR 1101!
She is an awesome teacher! She is so nice and helpful. I would highly recommend taking her class!
Ms. Flanagan is amazing! She is the most helpful and understanding insructor anyone could ever ask for. She really makes taking beginning level english not so boring. The work isnt too much or too hard. She is pretty leinient and her attitude makes you want to be in class.
She is so awesome! She is very sweet, and really cares about her students. I have never had such a great teacher before. I wish they all could be like her!
AH! She's awesome! She goes through what you need to know but doesn't waste your time over it. The work is incredibly easy and she's really easy going. If only more teachers were like her...
Very good instructor. It is rare to find people who simultaneously possess a cool professionalism and a warm demeanor. If you take her class, please please please actually do the work, you will get something out of it and she is too kind to waste her time.
amazing teacher! very kind and nice and really smart! as long as you read the stories and participate in class you will do fine. she grades papers very well and gives you good suggestions. i wish i could have her for all my eng classes!
Great teacher. Class is easy, u read from the book at home and then talk about it in class with her. Very few quizes. No test. An essay about every other week. Very helpful if u need extra anything. She wants to help evreyone pass! I do RECOMMEND! I want to take her for all my ENC's
Everyone needs to take her for your english credits. Never had an english class this interesting, with so few assignments, no tests and with a teacher who wants more than anything to see you pass. P.S. Everyone in the room completed the final thirty minutes after she passed it out.
best teacher i have ever had. will NOT let anyone fail. very helpful and always willing to answer any questions. very few quizzes and NO TESTS! Papers-only one every few weeks. Final only took 30 min.
AWESOME TEACHER!!!! EVERYONE SHOULD TAKE HER. SHE IS ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP YOU AND IS ALWAYS FAIR WITH EVERYONE!!!! VERY FEW QUIZES AND NO TESTS EXCEPT THE FINAL WHICH ONLYT TOOK 30MINUTES. THERE IS NO WRITTEN HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS JUST TO READ OUT OF YOUR BOOK AND DISCUSS IT THE NEXT DAY IN CLASS. ALSO, ONLY ESSAY WRITINGS EVERY FEW WEEKS.
Best teacher ever
Best english teacher ever!! Her class discussions are so awesome and helpful, you're never confused about what to write about. She really wants you to do well- She offers a lot of extra credit and is always available to help and proof read papers before you turn them in. Definitely take her!!
Good teacher- wants everyone to do well, very helpful. Lots of reading, but they are short stories, so you can read before class if you forget. Lots of discussion- you know exactly what to write about for essays. She does say "right" after EVERY sentence--pretty annoying but you get used to it.
If you can interperet short stories, poems and dramas, you should be good to go with this professor.

Great teacher! Funny, interesting, very helpful and attractive*. Gives enough time to write papers. Tests arent too hard. Required readings a must: gets irritated when students don't participate, but other than that, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Notes arent too lengthy either. *Couldnt help but stare sometimes.
Mrs Flannagan was a sweetheart. She reviewed exactly what was on the exams and she will read your papers before they are due to give you some ideas if your coming up short. She enjoys class discussion so read before class.
Covered 3 sect. of lit: Poetry, Fiction, & Drama. 1 in-class essay, 1 out-of-class, & 1 exam for each sect., + a final. Helpful, open office hours, tests are exact material covered in class. I really enjoyed this class, & walked out with a better appreciation of lit. Go over your essays w/ her in her office before you turn them in, it helps.
She is the best teacher I've had at SFCC yet!
She is a very good Professor. You ever need help-she will do anything she can to help!
Great teacher. She is helpful. She knows the material like the back of her hand.Very easy to talk to and to understand.Must write papers to pass this class but they are not hard, very understandable!
Melissa Flanagan is not a good professor to have. Flanagan is not helpful at all. When you go to class she re-reads what she had you read for homework, like it's a reading class. She won't give any kind of homework so you can get practice in. She is not very friendly either. Definitely would never recommend her to anyone.
wonderful teacher and always willing to help whenever you need it.
SHE IS AN ORAGNIZED PROFESSOR WHICH IT HELPFUL TO ME BECAUSE I'M AN ORGANIZED STUDENT. SHE IS VERY NICE TOO. ONE DAY I FAINTED IN CLASS AND SHE OFFERED TO TAKE ME TO THE NURSE STATION. BUT I JUST LEFT IN IMBARASSMENT. READING THE BOOK IS WHAT THIS ENGLISH IS ALL ABOUT, EXPECT IT.
Mrs. Flanagan is a great professor. She goes over the reading material until everyone understands it and grades fairly. She doesn't give much homework aside from reading and she is always there to help you with your papers. I would recommend her to everyone.
Very easy. Doesn't ask for much. We're doing 5 essays this term & all assignments we have had a choice as to which topic we want to choose from. Essays are easy to write. The essays we need to read from the textbook are ridiculously short, I always read them the half-hour break I have before class. All you have to do is try a little & you're fine.
Very clear prof. She will take time and help you. If you apply yourself you will do fine, even the the ones who did not try made atleast a D
When she writes on the chalk board in front of the class, you will know why you picked her. VERY SEXY. took her last semester, and i paid attention the entire time. if you fail its because you drooled all over your work.
Great teacher easy tests if you go over what is asked, if you aren't clear on something you can ask her. USE HER FOR YOUR PAPERS! I didn't and should have. Got A's on all tests but B's on all of the papers. I was stubborn don't be afraid to ask for her help and you'll do fine.
She's wonderful, thoughtful, polite, and very busy. She tries to help students, and students feel free in her classes. She is very laid back lady while she is sentimental. Her essay topics are clear, and she pays attention to details a lot.
Mrs. Flanagan is an awesome teacher. My favorite yet at the Fe. She will help you out where you need it and will go over all your mistakes and drafts. This class is all papers. I think 5 in all, work at your own pace, but meet your deadlines. Topics are fun and she is funny and very attractive. You must be able to write in order to take 1102
The literature covered was interesting and not painful to read. If you do poorly on the essays blame your ENC1101 Professor because this class is not designed to teach you to write. And yes it is in a round about way a history class, as literature is history. Also Ms. Flanagan is a very good looking woman, cannot believe she recently had twins!
Mrs. Flanagan is very clear on what she expects you to know. Tests are mostly open-ended questions. Discussions in class show up on the test. If you show up everday you will get t least a "B". She is one of the best, informative and clear professors. I would take any class she taught without hesitation.
Took online. She maybe better on campus than online; She is a hard grader and will tell you your mistakes after she have graded your essay when she could've explain her expectations from the beginning. If you take her, get others to profread your work and have them read over her directions so you can have a clear understanding.
took online, She is not clear with her directions, she does not explain until after she grades, which is not good if you did not make your desired grade. She wants you to write like her and where is the freedom there? There are better english professors out there, search for them.
I am wrapping up this course now online (it was an 8 week class) and I feel like overall she was a good instructor. Although her directions didn't seem clear at times, she seemed to want to help and offered help by proofreading papers before we turned them in. Pretty good teacher and she responds promptly to emails.
She was awesome. I took her over summer so we covered a lot of material, but she is really helpful. We had 3 exams and 3 papers plus a final. Everything on the exam is covered in class. I also had to leave the country before our final and she was super flexible with me. Definitely recommend her!
Summer A alot of reading in a short time. 3 essays 3 exams. Very helpful, wants you to do well. Knows her stuff. Glad I took her class! Wrked hard. Made an "A"
She is a good teacher. I took this in a condensed 6-week session during the Summer. Lots of pressure because little time to work on rewrites. But she is very good, will look over your papers and give insightful direction and advise. This is NOT a creative writing course.
I had Melissa Flanagan for a crammed Summer A session this year, & I really enjoyed her class. I never was a big Shakespeare fan, but she helped me to understand that style of literature so much clearer. She helps widen perspectives, and she is more than happy to work with students, giving suggestions for essay improvement.
Great professor! I would recommend her to anyone who wants a quality education. She graded my first paper a little harder than I expected, but she really explains everything and she is a fair grader. Her tests are fair and she doesn't test to trick you.
Shes a great teacher, was very helpful.
You MUST be a complete shakespeare nerd to pass this class. She grades ridiculously strict, as if this is a Harvard english honors class. Not only were my papers and tests graded harshly, I withdrew from the class halfway through. There was no way. I have no clue how the others comprehend shakespeare this level. Boring to say the least.
She thoroughly discussed every poem, play, or story we had to read in this class and made sure that we understood them. She reviewed the material before the test. Easy and interesting.
She was a great teacher and was extremely knowledgable of material. Class was easy... a paper and exam for each of the three units (Fiction, Play, Poetry). You do need the book!
The class was fairly easy. Everything was gone over in the class before the test and the essays were graded fairly. I never found out my final grade on my last essay but I got an A in the class so I suppose it doesn't matter. Shakespeare isn't that hard, she doesn't expect you to go into super great detail but you do cover it.
She is absolutely wonderful. Makes time for her students after class, willing to go over all essay drafts, and provides useful criticism. Very informative and genuinely interested in her students. VERY big on students speaking up in class.
Easy class, you should get an A. Mrs Flanagan is a sweet heart and will help you if you need it.
She's awesome. Really the best English teacher ive had so far. And she's hot.
Awesome lady! Took her for 1101 and 1102. Dedicated to the success of her students. Very thorough and always available to help. You WILL learn Shakespeare and poetry. She's a big stickler on participation in class discussions and it is a part of your grade. Highly recommend her. You will love her! You definitely need the book!
This professor grades your papers extremely hard. Her test are all opinion based questions so if your opinion does not match hers good luck on getting a good grade. She makes this class way harder than it needs to be.Holds grudges told me the last day of class and I quote "in life your going to need more than charm and good looks think about that".
Professor Flanagan is a nice lady. I liked the class overall, but she is a hard grader. I read and studied all semester. Quizes and exams are hard. She grades papers harder! Even if you have a high exam average, a lower essay average will bring your grade down. Not an easy A class by far.
I would highly recommend Mrs. Flanagan. She is concise and clear in her teaching, while also being strict and keeping you on pace. I received an A+ in her class not because I am an expert in English, but rather because of her help and advice on my papers. She is a lot of fun and I enjoyed the class very much. Take her!
This class is a lot harder than i imagined it would be, but she was there to help in any way she could. (office hours, staying later, email help and telling you what to revise on papers before the final draft. You do need the book but u got an earlier edition and everything was on it.
She's an absolute pleasure to be around. I've had a lot of great professors at SFC, but she still stands out as a high point. The class is very easy if you do the reading, and especially so if you enjoy writing.
Ms. Flanagan is really nice, funny and just a pleasure to be around. She makes the class an interesting class because she'll always use real life examples to the material covered. If you miss an assignment she drops the grade and coming to class is not mandatory! Just do your work and you'll be fine because she doesn't grade too hard. TAKETHISCLASS
I absolutely love the way she runs the class! She is very kind and always willing to help. She edits your paper before its due so you can assure yourself that you get an A! you do use the textbook in class and i recommend that you do read all the readings she assigns because that is what the in class assignments are based off of. Easy A!
Great class! Attendance is mandatory so just come to class and ask questions about your essays. You can email her before its due so she can check it and help you get an A! As long as you come to class and put forth effort on your essays then you will get an A!
I took this class online during Fall A, it was a lot of work but can be done. There was a lot of reading and writing over for the short term but overall Professor was good! She would respond daily to e-mails and you knew her office hours if you needed to stop by with questions. Highly recommend!
Professor Flanagan is very sweet and helpful. I recommend her to anyone, especially if you are not comfortable with writing- this class really helped me out!
AWESOME professor! Super helpful, willing to proof read assignments outside of class and really great at explaining what will be on tests and what she expects. Keep up with required reading and you will make an A
Not an easy A. She grades pretty tough, but if you send your assignment to her before the due date, she will proof read it for you. She is very helpful. Not a lot of work, just picky about her grading.
she's very difficult when it comes to grading and its not an easy A class ..i really don't recommend her!
Professor Flanagan appears to be a kind person, however, she isn't polite when it comes to communicating with students. She has blatantly ignored the questions I sent during her online office hours via email and chat. It has been 3 weeks since I started this 7 week course, and only one assignment has been graded with no feedback. Feeling neglected
The class was easy overall. Do not expect her to sit in front of her pc waiting for your emails. She has office hours for a reason and I was reminded of this when I got upset that she did not answer me. It was my fault. Still got an A in the class with an A on my final. She gives lots of good feedback and makes it impossible for you to fail.
Professor Flanagan is always available to answer questions and help students succeed. She can be a tough grader, but she always provides useful feedback on essays. Grading- Discussion posts on required reading: 30%; 2 Short essays: 30%; Researchpersuasive essay: 30%; Final (Essay) Exam: 10%. I highly recommend taking her class.
Took Ms. FLanagan for an online short semester class. Extremely nice , grades fair, and was always easy to contact. Highly recommend her, wish I could have her for ENC1102 online!
Professor Flanagan is a helpful and explains clearly what needs to be done. She is a tough grader, but as long as you use the skills learned in the class, you can succeed.
I cannot say enough great things about this instructor. She is amazing and truly cares about her students. I did not find this class tough or her to be a hard grader. In fact, she went beyond her call of duty to help. Do your work and you will make an A because this online class does not expect your life to revolve around it.
This instructor goes out of her way to help her students. Before taking her I read that she was a tough grader, however I did not feel that she was at all. Just write like you are in college and you will get an A. You do not have to be a great writer, just let her know that you are trying your best!!
Took her online class and it was so straight forward, if you did the readings and really tried on your essays, you did well.
Professor Flanagan is such a great English Professor! I love her. Great feedback.
Spectacular professor. Knows everything she's talking about, and though she may pass by tough, she's just very objective. Not necessarily funny, but manages to make a late night class interesting and worth the time.
The assignments honestly are not difficult. The teacher, however, never responds to emails and if she does, it is not in a timely manner. Very frustrating.
Extremely tough grader, she lacks in the ability to specifically tell you what needs to be done in her essays and then takes points off on things she never told you to do.
Great professor. Provides detailed feedback on drafts. If you work hard, you will do well.
She does not use a rubric to grade essays, and essays are 70% of ur grade. This is crucial bc you need to know your previous mistakes in order to not repeat them! I am very lazy but survived bc I'm a very good writer. If you need extra help with writing, this is not the professor for you. Barely any assignments so very easy to fail, work CAREFULLY
Provides detailed feedback on drafts. If you want to improve as a writer, this is the class to take.
Flanagan is a very smart lady. However, if you like to ask questions, then this professor is probably not for you.
This professor never gave clear instructions on essays and assignments. She would say I never understood the topics when I did. She just didn't explain it. Never answers her email. Take at your own risk.
I took this class online absoutely loved it, Dr. Flanagan is awesome to say at the very least! She gives good feedback, very helpful, truly cares about her students & loves her job. I cannot say enough amazing things about her! I highly recommend taking her class!
Professor Flanagan really cares about her students and helping them succeed. She is always willing to look over drafts.
Rude, not caring, and very unclear. Not willing work things out with students and not understanding at all. Rushes through topics and explains very poorly. Even though the lectures and explanations are very poor, grading is very tough. I do not recommend this professor.
Amazing professor. Willing to look over drafts and help you with your writing. If you want to learn to be a better writer then this is the class for you.
Great and easy "A" class. Dr. Flanagan was super nice and the class was not hard at all!
I had her for the hybrid course. In class you go through examples of stories and go over your essay assignments. Shes straight forward and very helpful when it comes to feedback and questions. Homework is one assignment a week of a story with a question. Along with the 4 essays and the final exam which is a easy essay.
She is very nice, if you have a chance to take her I definitely recommend it. Professor Flanagan is one of the best Composition professors at Santa Fe (I believe she is the department head.) She gives thorough feedback on essays, and homework. Provides thought provoking lectures, and assignments.
she good cuh.
Your grade is based on four essays. Professor Flanagan is willing to help you out if you have any questions.
She means well and has great intentions, but her teaching habit are just not effective. She grades papers late and does them in what seems like a short fashion. Hence this was a hybrid class (one class a week for an hour). 4/5 because I did learn a lot, but not 5/5 because lectures I think she talks too much and didnt great feedback from essays
