Posts all lectures to panopto and offers plenty of practice for exams. Very nice professor who makes it easy to learn the harder stuff. Loved her class!
The online course had a very heavy work load for an introductory course. Lectures are very boring and take up most of your time for the class. On top of that she expects you to do homework and review the book for a chapter in a week. Tests are hard if you don't study study study.
I really enjoyed this class. Great lectures. No homework, just 1 quiz every chapter. Stopped going to class after the second test because she posts her lectures online. worked great. Would recommend to anyone
Pretty dry lectures. No homework though. She is not a visual learner, so there are next to no visualizations in her slides. I learned the most through the online resources offered through the OTHER chem teacher. She does have the heart of a teacher though, and is willing to meet students halfway and talk with them outside of class and such.
Lecture slides were super wordy, and lectures weren't the most engaging, but maybe that's just because it's chemistry. There were tons of online resources available, which saved my grade. She always chose the trickiest questions to put on the test. We would go over easy questions in class, then have problems on tests that we have never gone over.
I was not a fan of Dr. Kofoed after having taken Ensign. She will spend a ton of time on one slide and then bust through 7 in 30 seconds. She is super accessible and willing to help you if you have any questions though so that is nice. Iclicker and exam retakes get you extra credit.
Chemistry is not my thing, but Dr. Kofoed provided a ton of resources for me to (attempt to) understand. Super accessible either after class or by email, which is so nice when you have questions. Lots of information jam-packed into a class.
This was one of her first years teaching and she did super well! She was passionate about helping students and making sure we understood the material. The tests are very predictable. Take the online practice tests and you'll know exactly how you will do on the actual tests. Lectures are helpful to attend but they are also recorded online.
Excellent professor. Tough class, but her tests mirrored her quizzes' question style. You have to put in study time but its not an impossible course. I wish she taught more courses I had/have to take.
Utilize her practice exams, practice problems, SI, Piazza, as well as Dr. Ensign's online resources she provides. She always answers any questions on Piazza super quickly. She provides so many resources that there is no reason to not get an A. Also, attend lecture/do exam retakes to earn extra credit. A few percentage points can save your grade!
This is one hard class. I'm sure some of that has to do with being all online. Kofoed is passionate about Chemistry and cares, but she also has somewhere around 80 bullet points about what students are supposed to learn in her intro to chemistry class. You have to do a lot of math, tests are super hard, and the class moves fast.
Amazing! I took this class online and it was really easy to follow, the lectures went right along with the content. Easy explanations and Dr. Kofoed was really easy to get in contact with and ask questions. She always answers really fast! My first go round with Chem 1010 ( in 2012 and different teacher, i got a C+, now im getting an A!
It's a well organized and logical class, but if you are taking Chem 1010 as a non-science major because you need a general science class do NOT take this class. It moves really fast and has a lot of in depth material. This class would make a lot of sense as a precursor to years of chemistry but if you don't need it, don't take it.
She's a fantastic professor. Obviously cares about her students and has TONS of resources for her students. Hard class but she made it doable
She takes the time to explain all the concepts and gives so much help for the test/quizzes. Her goal is for everyone to succeed.
Very fair. Excellent lectures, very informative. Great at answering questions and making difficult material easy to understand. Very nice and fun. Homework and tests are very fair. Lectures are key to passing class, but are recorded. Guided notes provided.
the class is hard, but it is clear professor Kofoed wants her students to succeed, and if you have any material questions there are many resources and ways to get questions answered. She expects you to put in the work for a good grade, as any teacher should. She definitely is a super good prof and will be taking her class next semester.
Dr. Kofoed was a great professor, but the material is hard. It's doable, but be prepared to do a lot of studying. Also, DO NOT CRAM. It doesn't work in this class. Just pretend the practice problems are your homework and do them every day, you should be fine.
Had Kofoed for 1010. Overall she's a good teacher. You can tell she loves chemistry and is passionate about teaching. But there's SO much to cover in the class. She would try to show you how to calculate something and skip the last 5 steps because she showed you how to do that step somewhere in another lecture.
Lectures are very dull. The powerpoints are black text on a white background with the occasional diagram (which makes it hard for visual learners). She explains things very quickly and the problems she goes over in class are simpler than the problems seen on tests. Be prepared to teach yourself material and work hard.
It's definitely not an easy A but if you put in the time it's all very manageable. She really did a fantastic job of making a difficult subject understandable.
Dr. Kofoed was an awesome professor. Be prepared for some difficult material though. This course is pretty math-heavy and she tends to go really quickly through the problems. Definitely do the practice problems even though they aren't graded. I'd also definitely recommend printing out her lecture slides to write your notes on in class.
Dr. Kofoed taught chemistry as clear as can be. If you put in the time and effort to listening to lectures (if online) print out your notes and pay close attention, you can for sure receive an A! It's a lot of material but she makes it so easy and responds to any questions so quickly. I would take every class from her if I could!
Professor Kofoed was a great. There is a lot of material so the class is fast-paced. There are many opportunities to raise your grade. You are able to retake exams and get a couple of points added back to your score. You have to study outside of class to get a good grade, but there are a lot of resources accessible to make sure that you succeed.
Never went to class. still pulled a B
This is my 2nd time taking a class from Dr. Kofoed and I still think she's an awesome professor. The material she teaches is pretty challenging but she always gives more than enough opportunities for bonus points and extra credit. She seems to genuinely care about the success of her students.
I usually have a hard time with chemistry but her class (I took it online) was organized, easy to follow, and a student can easily succeed if they put forth the time and effort to do the lectures, quizzes, and practice problems on time. I would definitely recommend her!
Dr. Kofoed is so nice. She is passionate and kind but doesn't take bs when people try to mansplain Chemistry. She drops your lowest quiz and exam scores which is super helpful with grading. She also provides A TON of practice exams with keys (and recorded solutions). Do the work and you'll do well in the class.
I can tell she has a lot of knowledge on chemistry but there were several times during the semester she would waste 20 minutes in lecture ranting about something like quantum chemistry and then at the end of her rant would say "but you don't need to know this for the test." This would result in her scrambling to give us the info we really needed.
This class was not easy, but she gives you lots of resources to be successful and she is willing to help outside of class. she does give many opportunities for extra to help with your grade with test makeups and iclicker questions which is something i really liked! tests can be tricky sometimes so know material really well if you want to pass them.
This was quite possibly the best professor I have had so far. Chemistry is not easy, but she goes over a lot of examples in class, gives you five attempts on quizzes, and gives you three practice exams for each exam that are almost identical to the real exam. You do have to study a lot, but if you put in the work, you should get a good grade.
Melissa is patient and explains things very thoroughly. I'm not great at science, but she did a great job of dumbing things down for me. She gave opportunities for extra points on the exams, and I didn't feel as though her tests were extremely difficult. All of her exams seemed to have questions from her practice tests and quizzes. Great teacher.
Melissa was a wonderful instructor. The material she taught was difficult to understand at first, but studying and attending SI sessions helps. Her test are quite difficult but if you do the practice exams, you should be fine. To get a good grade in this class, you need to be willing to work hard. She's one of my favorite instructors!
I would have never passed this class if it had mandatory attendance. She teaches at a slow pace which is good for many, but not for me. Luckily she records her lectures so I was able to watch in 2x and take notes on my own. Any homework and quizzes really set you up to pass the tests so make sure to have an understanding of those. Caring and nice
As long as you put in the effort, you can definitely pass this class with a grade you'll be happy with. Professor Kofoed is so caring! I learned to truly enjoy chem from her and learned so much! She prepares you and teaches at a great pace. Not to mention all her awesome chemistry cat jokes:) Overall, one of the best professors I've ever had!
She is your typical professor, nothing super bad but nothing super good to say about her. The whole class is lecture based, so you always have to watch the lectures. She makes them fairly short. She has super clear grading, and offers extra credit on exams if you pay attention during lectures. I would take her again for the easy credit.
Hard to follow lectures and difficult tests. There are 5 exams, 3 with make-up points. If you are not great at chem and do not have lots of time to study, it is unmanageable. I would say that I studied a lot more than I expected and I failed every single test and retake. I'm sure if it was in person that it would be better but online wrecked me.
This was a great class. Though the exams are difficult, Dr. Kofoed gives you all the resources necessary to succeed. There are quiz questions within the lectures, and if you complete them you can get extra credit. This was a really solid online class, I learned a ton.
Professor Kofoed really cares about her students. She wants everyone to succeed, and as a result she makes this class very manageable. A few tips: 1) watch every lecture and print out the slides. Everything you're tested on is on the slides. 2) Don't bother with the online textbook. 3) Take advantage of the module quizzes and practice exams!
Prof. Kofoed is a very caring professor. She explains very thoroughly and provides plenty of resources to learn the material as well as extra credit opportunities. That being said, chemistry is tough, and you HAVE to pay attention to her lectures. Shes a good choice.
Koefed was great for an online course, structured it VERY well and she gives many chances to earn a good grade. Lots of extra credit, curves tests, and provides tons of resources for every lecture to help you understand. She's really nice and makes expectations clear. It wasn't an easy A, but definitely a possible A.
Dr. Kofoed is one of the best professors I have ever had. I am on my third degree and I have had a lot of professors. She is excellent!
Dr. Kofoed is awesome. She explains things clearly, is passionate about the subject, and makes lectures enjoyable. Her expectations for the tests are clear, and she provides ample material to practice so you can succeed. She cares about her students and is motivated to help them do well.
I love Professor Kofoed! She knows how to teach, especially for an online course. She explains everything in a simple way that is easy to understand. She prerecords lectures and they are long, but she puts quiz questions into the lectures for extra credit. She gives tons of resources and she will answer any questions you have. I would recommend her
Best science teacher I have ever had and VERY organized for an online class. Make sure you go to the study sessions (the like 2 hour long ones) and you will ace the class.
Dr. Kofoed is an amazing professor. It seemed easy at first, but being a 7 week course, it only got worse and worse. Definitely take this class from this professor but do everything you can not to take it in 7 weeks.
This is my 3rd time taking a class from Dr. Kofoed, and she's incredible. She always offers opportunities for extra credit, and is willing to meet and help outside of class when needed. She explains difficult topics in a way that's easy to understand. Absolutely recommend taking any chemistry course from her!
Professor Kofoed is great! I was very nervous to be taking Chemistry, but this class is organized very well, so many resources for you to get help and be successful, she sets clear expectations for what will be on the tests, very helpful lectured and interactive learning. You can tell she puts time and effort into helping students succeed.
She gives you every resource to get an easy A! For all exams she has 2 practice tests & their keys w/ explanations for each answer. Optional make-up exam can replace lowest score. Offers extra credit for answering questions in the lectures, which you can re-take. Lectures are super easy to understand. My only challenge was time management.
She really makes you work for it, but its very possible to get a good grade in her class. She's always willing to meet with you and help where she can. She also offers tons of resources for you to study and learn. I hope you have a good memory because you will need it!
She's seriously the sweetest and her video lectures aren't just lifeless droning like most teachers' are. She'll always answer emails quickly and with detailed responses. If you're willing to do 1+ hours of practice problems every night, you'll likely pass this class. But if you plan on doing any of your other schoolwork, this might not be for you.
I have taken Kofoed for a couple of classes, and she is amazing. If you go to class and put the time into studying, you will do well. She provides resources to help you study and is open to meeting with you to help. I hate anything chemistry related, but she made it very manageable. One of the best professors I have ever had.
Dr. Kofoed is the best. If you try hard, you'll do great in this class.
She truly cares about our success, and her focus is on making sure that we learn the material! She is excellent at explaining concepts, and formats the class so that due dates are clear. Each quiz has opportunities to retake for a higher score and many extra credit opportunities! I only want to take 1220 from her!
Dr. Kofoed is the best person to take Biochemistry from. She breaks down complex material to a point that it is easy to grasp. She wants you to be successful. Her tests are fair and her expectations for the tests are clear (she gives great practice tests that are just like the real tests). 10/10 would take any chemistry class from her.
She's awesome! Being online it's very organized! She provides a ton of resources to help you learn and is willing to help. There are even recorded tutor zoom sessions done by another student almost every week to go over the content. However you really have to work for it, if you stay on top of time and study hard you will pass the class just fine.
I really liked this online class. It is set up well and flexible on timing. The lectures are kept short and I enjoyed them. If you take notes and work through the practice tests the exams are not too hard. I would recommend her!
Missy is an amazing professor! Very organized and explains content clearly. If you watch all the lecture videos you will pass the class BUT take notes! She's very quick to respond to emails and is very helpful. She really cares for her students and their success in this class. 100% recommend taking this class from her.
Dr Kofoed explains things pretty thoroughly and seems to care that her students understand. Some test questions can be kind of hard, but the practice exams are pretty similar to the real thing.
She records and uploads all of her lectures after every class and even offers prerecorded lectures that she made over the pandemic. She makes the content easy to understand, but it is A LOT to learn/remember. Quizzes and practice exams are similar to real exams and were vital in helping me study.
Professor Kofoed made it very clear what her expectations were and offered a couple forms of extra credit. It is tough material, but she is totally fair and the exams were never too difficult. They always mirrored what she said would be on the exams. Rewatch the lectures and study the lecture slides and the tests aren't bad at all.
Dr. Kofoed is the kindest person! She truly cares about the success of her students and gives plenty of class time to answer all questions. Some topics are kind of complex, but she offers office hours where she is willing to talk through anything you don't understand. Make sure to watch the recorded lecture each week.
Professor Kofoed has made a tough subject easy. She gives you so many extra resources if you're struggling, and her and her TA's are always prompt if you have questions. She absolutely wants everyone to succeed, and knows how to explain things in a way that is easy. Loved her class.
Although the class is a somewhat difficult concept and topic to cover, Professor Kofoed is amazing at keeping her lectures engaging and fun for the entire class. She is very open to questions and makes sure that the question is answered clearly. She is an amazing teacher and I would strongly recommend her to anyone taking the courses she offers.
Professor Kofoed is a great teacher and gives you a lot of different resources if you need help. This is a hard course but she makes it pretty easy to learn and understand all of the material you are given. If you fail this class it will be your own fault.
To get an A, do practice problems. Over and over again. Kofoed gives tons of resources to help you pass. If you stay on track with the suggested practice problems, do the practice exams, and ask questions on what you don't understand, you will get an A. Kofoed cares about her students and she wants us to succeed!
The material starts off easy and gets harder and harder... and it's cumulative. So definitely put the work in early to get great greats on exam 1 & 2 so that exam 3 isn't so overwhelming. Pause the lectures on every slide, work through material with as much independence as possible before defaulting to her explanations and answers.
She really cares and helps when needed. The tests were hard but there were tons of resources to help out. As long as you do the practice exams and go to the SI sessions you will get an A.
I do feel like she is a wonderful and caring teacher, just be very prepared for lots and lots of work. She moved very fast and you just need to be prepared for a large work load for a general ed class. I used every resource besides meeting with her or going to the optional meetings with TA yet still struggled to keep my grade up.
A really good easy class. She really went over topics that we would be quizzed on. She does move a little fast, but just pay attention to the lectures and you'll be fine. With it being online it was hard to stay motivated, but she doesn't leave you in the dust. She provides opportunities to stay caught up with the class.
She provides a lot of resources that are very helpful during and outside of class to help you succeed. She does really well of going over topics that are in the quizzes and exams. Definitely do the self test problems that are provided they really help you prepare for the exams.
Prof. Kofoed was alright, she gave a warning at the start of the course, this is a 4 credit class with no TA's, which is a huge deal. No TA's means that you won't get any extra help. There's a few "TA's" that will go over the material before the exams, but not 2x a week for 1 hour like most 4 credit classes. Be ready, this intro class is not easy.
I love Doctor Kofoed. Not only is she very intelligent but she also understand that many of her students are not quite as intelligent ;) CHEM 1210 was definitely a very difficult class but I easily got an A after attending class, creating a study group, and going to the SI sessions. When I took it, she offered very easy extra credit options!!
I really enjoyed Kofoed, and I learned a lot from her. She is a great lecturer and thoroughly answers questions. She has a lot of external resources that can assist you in this class, which helped a lot with my success in this class. You can tell she wants her students to succeed. I'm taking her again next semester!
The class covers complex material, but she teaches it simply. If you can do the HW problem sets and practice tests, you will ace the exams!! She is very willing to meet with you and gives many resources to succeed. It is a fast past course, so make sure to stay on top of it. 3 exams, with an optional makeup exam to replace your lowest exam score
Dr. Kofoed is good at what she does, but teaches a difficult and uninteresting course. Her course is set up very similarly to Dr. Ensign's. Study hard and you'll be fine
Shes a good person, but seems to be following a script when she teaches, so its very boring. Doesn't ever really answer questions. watched all of the other proff stuff instead. Not super clear on teaching stuff, but you can tell she is really trying.
Some of the test question weren't taught during lectures, but she offers a TON of practice questions. DO THEM! There is a lot of content, but she teaches is a very easy to follow and direct manner. Participation wasn't mandatory but extra credit was given based on participation. Retakes on exams were also available to earn back a couple of points.
Chemistry is going to be a difficult class, but she has every resource for you available and makes you know where to go from day one. She has extra credit during lectures; records lecture to go back to, and repeats questions students ask for the recording to hear. Final is 30% of your grade, but I have loved this class and the resources are there
Professor Kofoed is amazing! The class is laid out nicely and the assignments make sense. There are quite a few lectures to watch but the material is taught simply. Prof. Kofoed provides plenty of opportunities to learn the material and be successful on exams and in the course.
Would take class again. If it weren't for chemistry cat, I wouldn't have passed the class.
The class was entirely lectures and exams, making it hard to learn. The instructor was unclear and often explained topics we didn't need, causing confusion. Tests were overly difficult and not reflective of lectures. There was no variety or support for different learning styles. Overall, the class did not effectively support student learning.
I LOVEDDDD THIS PROFESSOR!!!!! This definitely isn't the easiest class, but I feel like she made it so that anyone who put in effort could get an A by giving multiple extra credit opportunities. And for how difficult the content is I feel like she taught it AMAZINGLY!!!!!! take professor Kofoed she's awesome!!!!!!
