She's a great teacher, and the material is really clear. The practice tests are very helpful. There are a lot of assignments (post class quizzes and software work), but she gives a lot of leniency. Great professor, Highly recommended. Actually made accounting interesting.
Wow. Professor Larson is one of my all time favorite professors. She made me fall in love with Accounting. Classes are super interesting. Tests are exactly like practice tests. She is always there if you need help. The accounting lab is THE BEST- it is practically always open and the TAs are extremely helpful. I would love to take this class again!
Professor Larson is fantastic and VERY organized. The tests are difficult but if you work hard on the practice tests and in-class worksheets you will do well. She sends out weekly emails with reminders and tips that will help you a bunch. Do not get behind on the software. Take this from her! (I think she is the only one who teaches it anyway)
Professor Larson is a good person. If it was not for Norm's Software I would not have done as good in this class. She goes through everything too fast and expects you to know what she is talking about. Tests are tough and different from the practice exams. Tests have tricky questions. Make sure you remember EVERY word taught to get an A.
Everything is taught by the software and Prof. Larson just reviews it. This class is graded on testing ability. Tests are worth 60% of your grade. Tests are tough, different from practice exams, and have surprise questions. Quizzes are taken every single class period. No extra credit allowed. Softwares are 2-4.5 hours in average.
You need to know everything that she tells you and that you watch in the software to do good in this class. This class should be your priority. I do not recommend Professor Larson if you are not a good test taker.
It's broken down into software days and in-class days but really it's software days and software + in class days. Get ready to watch hours and hours of Norm's software every single week. Tests are the majority of your grade and they are extremely hard. Study all day and you'll still get a 70. Teachers nice but won't help with your grade at all.
Prof Larson is probably as good as it gets when it comes to ACC 200. The class is definitely tough and demanding but she does a really good job keeping things interesting. You basically go to class once a week and her lectures are very good. She explains things well and offers great practice exams in order to get you ready for the midtermsfinal
Professor Larson is an amazing teacher! She teaches clearly and provides lots of resources to help you practice the concepts. She was really helpful when I had questions. If you do everything she provides for practice and do all of the software, you can ace the exams. She's also good at applying accounting principles to daily life.
Melissa Larson is the most organized professor I have ever had. The class is tough but there are no excuses because you are told exactly what you need to do to be successful. This is my favorite class I have ever taken. Great material, great teacher, great software. The tests are comparable to the practice tests just a little more tricky.
There was a comment below about the practice tests not being similar to the real test. That is a lie. They are almost identical, only the numbers and answers change. Study hard and care about the material and if you put in the necessary time you will do great. Larson is super organized and helps you never miss assignments with weekly emails.
Prof. Larson only teaches half of this class. She leaves the other half to be taught by a software program that cannot answer questions. The study guides give no clear indication of how you will do on the tests.
She is the BEST teacher. She teaches everything we need to know. She stays focused and on track. She explained everything. The class is difficult, but doable. Do the work and you will get the grade you deserve. BEST TEACHER
This class was very challenging, but that is simply because there is a lot of material. Professor Larson is a very good teacher and impressed me on day 1. Tough, but worth it without a doubt.
Professor Larson is a wonderful teacher. She provides many different ways to learn the material via class, reading, video, etc. You only go to class half of the time, and the other half you do a software. I enjoyed this class a lot.
Professor Larson is an awesome teacher! You will learn so much new information in this class. You learn most of the material through a software system where Norm will teach you all that you need to know. Class was mainly a review of the software, but she also talked about some topics that Norm doesn't discuss in his online lectures. Great class!!!
Professor Larson is a very kind, helpful, smart, courteous teacher that teaches with clarity and focus. Class attendance is a must, but you wouldn't want to miss it anyway. The workload is exaggerated slightly, but you CANNOT afford to get behind. If you pay attention to the software and in class, budgeting time, you'll succeed.
Prof. Larson is an amazing person and professor. Go to her office hours! She is always willing to explain hard concepts. It is evident in the way that she teaches that she loves what she does. I put a lot of time into this class and I loved it! If you are dedicated and use the TA's and Prof Larson you will get an A. 100% recommend her.
This class is basically learn on your own. The class is just going over what you learn and make sure you understand the topics.
Professor Larson is great. The accounting program just tries to weed out people in ACC200 so it is a rather difficult course. The tests are hard and there is a ton of material to cover. I learned a lot but there was a lot of unnecessary busy work involved as well.
She's a good teacher with a difficult class. Higher work load than other classes. Only has class about 50% of the time, if you don't have class you watch 2-3 hours of accounting video. She explains difficult topics well.
Professor Larson is THE MOST organized professor I've ever had. She is so on top of it, and somehow is so there for you and loving to her students even in a lecture hall. Accounting is very hard for me but she made it fun! (textbook noted is online software)
Professor Larson is awesome. She is super helpful and a great teacher. Also makes the class somewhat interesting. She is super on top of things and is also reminding you about upcoming assignments and she really wants you to do well int he class and really wants you to do well in accounting. Take this class from her.
You can get a good grade in this class as long as you do the work. Be sure you set aside enough time to do the software. It is so important to this class. Tests are just like the practice exams--do them and make sure you understand it all and you'll do well. Prof Larson is great. She makes it interesting and understandable and wants you to do well.
Wow! Professor Larson is the best. Work hard and keep up with the work load and you can easily get an A. Spend time learning the material, not memorizing it, and you will do excellent on the exams and quizzes. Also, the software is bomb!! This class will make you want to be an accountant.
Gives clear and concise explanations.
She loves her students and really wants you to succeed. You will need to work for it though! This class is hard because you cover so much material, the class size is about 700 students, and it is a really competitive pre req. Despite all that I can say she may be one of the best professors at BYU.
Professor Larson is the bomb. One of the best and brightest they have in the accounting program and they chose her to teach the entry level accounting class. The class is large, so spend lots of time in the TA lab to understand things. You watch lots of software and take online quizzes for every class period. She is super sharp, always on the ball.
Professor Larson is amazing. She is charismatic and really cares. She wants students to understand. The class is super well organized. That being said, the class is TOUGH. 2 hours+ of videos to watch per class and quizzes every period. Nice thing is you only have to go to class once a week usually. It feels great once it's over and conquered!
My favorite thing about Prof Larson was all of the materials she had available to help you succeed. She had practice quizzes, online software with more practice questions, recordings of her going through problems, handouts in class, powerpoints of all her lecture material, office hours, TA labs. It was a lot of work, but I learned SO much.
LOVED Professor Larson! She is an accounting machine. iClicker quizzes were used to record lecture attendance, but lecture was only held about every other class period. The rest of class consists of software days using Norm's lessons. Professor Larson is super sweet and ready to answer any of your questions. Tests are tough but doable if you study.
You have to do A LOT of work outside of class but that being said, Professor Larson is a great teacher and helps you to understand the concepts taught in the accounting videos you are supposed to watch. Tests are pretty tough but she gives practice quizzes that are similar to what will be on the midterm and final so you just have to study those
Great Professor! Clear teaching style, she teaches complex topics to the understanding of an entry level accounting class. Lots of group work. To get an A get ready to dedicate 3 or 4 hours of homework per class period. Tests were tough but manageable if you study.
Prof. Larson is fantastic! She details everything you need to do from the very beginning. All you have to do is do the work. It's a lot of HW, but it's manageable if you pace yourself with some HW each day. Prof. Larson is extremely helpful and clear, and really wants her students to learn and understand accounting. Could not recommend higher.
She's amazing. That's all.
I love Professor Larson. She is awesome. Really good teacher and makes it really interesting. Downsides: in-class lectures sometimes moves really fast, there are a lot of test questions that are logic not problem based that are hard to prepare for. TA lab is really helpful. She is a really good teacher. Put in hard work and you'll do fine.
She is an excellent teacher and provided many resources to help us learn. I enjoyed lectures because she explained concepts well and didn't bore me. There was a lot of work outside of class. It was a hard class. There are lots of opportunities to learn. I had no problem with the professor. It was just a hard class.
Prof. Larson is the best acc teacher out there! She seriously gives you every single tool to succeed. This class is so organized and she tells you exactly what to study. Youre going to have to work for it, i studied like crazy for the tests but if you dont get behind and go to the TA lab you have no reason not to do well.
Professor Larson was an AMAZING teacher. By far the most clear teacher I've had at BYU. Though there is a lot of homework involved, you know exactly what to do, how to do it, and when it was due. I liked this class a lot.
Professor Larson changed my perspective on school work and study. She has the most organized class I've ever seen and that helped a ton. It's a hard class and it's meant to be. It will take up time, but it's worth it. There is a small curve, but just don't get behind and it'll work out.
Prof Larson is an amazing teacher! She really cares about helping her students succeed and provides them with all the help and reminders you need to stay on top of things. Acc 200 is not an easy class but doable!!! Just get ready to watch a lot of lecture videos and take lots of notes!
I loved my Accounting class, despite the horror stories I found everything in the class to be very fair and doable. The software is long but it really does help. I loved how she tied in gospel principles in class and shared her real life stories with us. She made me love Accounting and I am considering to major in it.
I loved this class because it was fair. Professor Larson had very clear expectations for us. It's very possible to get an A, but you have to watch the software as scheduled, attend class, and study until you know the material backwards and forwards for the tests. Professor Larson is entertaining and helpful.
Professor Larson really changed my perspective of accounting and business. Expect to spend long hours on software, and don't get behind! Don't rely on your notes on quizzes or practice problems to study for tests (everyone fails the first one, but still study). Super helpful class for anyone. Changed my major to accounting because of this class.
I loved Professor Larson! She really understands accounting and is willing to help you out when you need it. She explains concepts clearly in class. We usually only have class once a week because the other days we are watching videos on the online software. The tests are tough but learn the concepts in the practice tests and you will do well.
Good -Extraordinarily clear grading policy -Everything is very well-planned out -Provides a LOT of resources to help you succeed -Accounting lab is awesome -Tests weren't terrible Bad -Video watching assignments were as much as 4 hours/class -Graded on attendance -Tests were pretty tough, but at least straightforward -No extra credit
I loved Accounting 200. It isn't for everyone, but Melissa Larson made it a great class. The software (Norm Nemroe) is really dry, but teaches a lot. Be prepared to work, but this is a class everyone should take. Great class!
I felt babied in this class. It wasn't very clear or as rigorous as Fin 201. I was bored in class. It's norm or bust. The online textbook is very lengthy and unclear. I got an A- with very little effort. You either get this stuff or you don't. Some definitions are very subjective. Need to really pay attention to handouts and quizzes. Don't slack.
Prof. Larson is an inspiring person to learn from! She took time to answer all my questions and personally meet with me. She is very understanding and a great mentor. What you put in to this class is what you will get out. I worked hard and I loved the material. Apply yourself.
I loved Professor Larson! She is AMAZING! Great lectures, always gave clear and specific instructions, and you could tell she cared about you even in a lecture full of 800 students. She inspired me to do accounting! Definitely hope I have her for another accounting class!
Professor Larson is the BEST. She is so amazing in the way she teaches. I don't necessarily call myself good accounting but it was a doable class and subject because of her. She loves what she teaches but doesn't expect all of us to love it as much as she does. She is approachable and easy to understand. One of the best professors on campus!
She made Acc 200 enjoyable and the lectures were never boring. The information learned will be helpful in and outside of college. Make sure to spend plenty of time studying for the tests. If you go over the practice exam multiple times you will do well!
Professor Larson is one of my favorite teachers at BYU! Accounting is hard, but she makes it fun and she totally changed my entire view of accounting and now its my major. If you take three seconds to go up and introduce yourself it makes a world of difference. The practice tests REALLY help!
Professor Larson is FANTASTIC. Her lectures are great, she gets to the point and explains the material well. You will spend plenty of time outside of class with the software but if you put in the time you will do well. Larson clearly outlines what you need to do, and doesn't make you do unnecessary busy work. GREAT CLASS.
I would take this class over again if I could. Professor Larson is one of the nicest people and she really wants to help. Also she is super good about responding to any questions you have. Loved this class even though it was kind of difficult, as long as you use all your resources and put in the effort you will do great!
Lectures are clear and as long as you did the homework you will understand what is going on. She explains well and fast so be alert.
Prof. Larson is an amazing teacher with a very organized class. She makes accounting applicable to everyone. That said, it is a HARD class. The tests are what will make or break your grade. Though she says otherwise, the class is meant to weed out those not qualified for the accounting program. Great teacher, but not easy.
Prof. Larson herself is very engaging and very good in teaching the content. But I cannot stress this enough: THIS CLASS IS HARD!!! It is a weed-out class (and she admits it) for the Accounting program, and if you aren't fully invested in the lectures and outside of class readings, you are going to have a really hard time. Tests are very hard, too.
Professor Larson is a great person, and does well at explaining the content in class. Although if you really want to do well in this class, you will have to be your own teacher. You have to really study and do the work she assigns or you will not do well on tests. There are only three tests that make up 60 percent of your grade so don't slack!
Professor Larson is good at making the lectures interesting, and overall it was a good class. Just be aware that it will take a lot of work time outside of the classroom. You do a lot of independent learning through software video lessons, and you have two quizzes a week. If you keep up, you will be fine. Just don't get behind.
She is the best! She made a difficult class so much easier. She knows how to explain things in an easy way and she is always willing to help. She is always walking around looking for students with questions or problems. She is an excellent teacher. The class is very organized and if you put in the effort you can get an A. Definitely recommend her.
She was a great teacher, effective, commanding, knowledgeable, relatively interesting for the course material. If you want to understand the material and do well on tests you must sit through a couple of hours of online accounting video materials per week, which I had a hard time doing. Liked the prof, disliked the subject matter. You can do it!
I LOVED this class! If you keep on top of the work and watch the software, you'll be fine. Study for the midterms and finals and do the practice tests... they help a ton! Sister Larson is the nicest person and really cares about her students. You're in a class with like 600 people but you can still tell she really cares about her students!
GREAT professor. Very organized, clear expectations, and sets you up for success should you choose to do the work (Which is definitely required). It's a hard class, but if you know the material well enough to do well on the practice tests, you will do well on the tests themselves.
Professor Larson is incredible! She teaches very well and is a fantastic professor. I would recommend taking this class from her if possible.
I do not think the class is hard if you prepare well before lectures and make sure you understand each lesson by doing the practice problems by yourself. This is one of the best classes ever, so applicable!
Professor Larson is incredible. The subject of accounting can be an acquired taste, making it hard to get sometimes. But, Prof. Larson is very effective. She supplies resources given to succeed and achieve the grade you want, and it is specific on how you can. It just depends on you to do it all consistently throughout the semester.
This is a very well structured class. Professor Larson is passionate and manages the class well for there being 500 plus students in there. Follow along in class (don't feel overwhelmed if you feel lost, you get fed more info than you need), and then tackle the practice tests literally 3 times before the test. If you can can do that, you'll be ok
Professor Larson is amazing. Seriously my favorite prerequisite for the business school. This class requires you to study, but the expectations are clear and if you put the work in an A is extremely possible. The class is very well organized and its is obvious that Professor Larson cares about her students.
Dr. Larsen is great, she makes the expectations very straight forward (she will email you before every class period). Accounting can be pretty straight-forward or confusing, depending on the student and how much time you commit to it. Stay up-to-date with the online lectures and study the practice exams and it's not that bad.
AMazing teacher! Very organized. She teaches clearly and the information is relevant. The homework is watching videos that go over test material. There are practice exams to help prepare you. I would easily take a class from this professor again.
There's a lot of software to watch outside of class, so be prepared for that, but if you can understand Norm then the lecture part should be more examples of using it. Which shouldn't be too hard. Prof. Larson is nice and easy to talk to outside of class, and the TA lab is really helpful
This was one of the first classes I took getting home from a mission and after making a career change from medicine to pre-business. The class was very straight forward. It was very clear what I needed to do to be successful. Larson is very organized and very good at explaining and teaching. This was not an easy A, but a VERY possible A.
I really loved Professor Larson! This was my first business class and I really enjoyed it because her lectures were interesting, she talked about real life stuff and brought her own personal life into it so the class wasn't so boring. There is no textbook but there is software that you definitely want to watch to understand the material better.
This class requires a lot of work but Mrs. Larson is the best teacher I have ever had at BYU. She knows the material extremely well and is really really good at explaining it. I hated all the reading and videos outside of class but she was really good at explaining it in her lectures.
Professor Larson is always available outside of class to offer help if you seek it out. The lectures were really long and the homework took well over 8 hours to complete every week. I basically lived at the Accounting lab my first semester and it still didn't get me a good grade. Larson is a great teacher though.
Professor Larson is one of the most effective teachers I've ever had. She understands what is going to trip people up and focuses class time on practicing those concepts. If you follow her recommendations accounting comes much easier.
Melissa Larson is really likable and a great teacher, but the problem is that her teaching doesn't match up the tests and quizzes. This class just became a hybrid class, and the system does not work well. There are hours of video each week. Test questions often have more than one plausible answer and aren't covered directly by material.
Professor Larson is prepared, organized, energetic, and enthusiastic. I appreciated the careful preparation that went into structuring this course. Unlike so many classes, I was able to find a step-by-step guide of what I needed to complete each class period. I would recommend Professor Larson to anybody.
Prof. Larson is super energetic and works hard to get the class involved (hard considering there are 500+ students) She provides tons of materials to help you prepare for the tests and leaves review quizes open so you can improve your grade. The course itself is hard, but she, as a teacher, does an amazing job!
She is so amazing and now I am majoring in accounting! You definitely have to put in the work though. Kind of a lot of hours per week watching videos and doing practice problems but thats normal. The practice tests prepare you for exactly what is on the test so do them and you'll be fine
Class is tough but do-able. I never studied other than the homework and maybe two hours before each midterm/final. Lots to know and things get confusing after a month or so. Prof Larson knows the material really well but doesn't answer many questions in class. Go to TAs for help.
She's a great professor who is very good at teaching difficult concepts simply. ACC 200 is a hybrid class (both online and 1 class lecture/week), and she has it very well organized. She gives you plenty of resources to succeed, even though it's a tough class. Watch the material, do the homework, come to class and you will do great and learn a lot.
Professor Larson was an amazing teacher who truly cared about us students. She was fair and taught interesting lectures. I had class once a week but the rest of the week, I spend on average 6-9 hours watching accounting videos online - the main learning experience. The class solidified concepts. The videos were WAY too long, but were informative.
This is kind of a hard class... if you rush through the hw and don't do all the practice problems and set yourself up to have tough tests. Just watch all the online lectures and do all the practice problems and take it seriously and you'll be fine. Also, she throws in random questions from the yellow in class sheets so STUDY THOSE YELLOW SHEETS!!
Professor Larson is amazing! Accounting is a hard class, but she approaches it very well and lets you know what is expected. Do not get behind on the homework, study for tests, and you will do fine!
I really enjoyed this class. You definitely have to try to succeed but an A is totally achievable. Professor Larsen is a very kind and caring teacher who responds really well to questions despite the large class size. If you watch all the Norm videos and do the assigned practice problems then do the review quizzes before tests, you will do fine.
FYI for anyone taking this class in the future. In fall 2017 this class curved a little more than 1.5% in favor of the students.
Melissa Larson was an OK teacher. Her teaching doesn't match up the tests and quizzes. The class curve was like the person said before. It was 4 question out of all the tests taken. There are question on the test that she does even not cover. I would not recommend her
Don't listen to bad reviews. Prof Larson is VERY caring and helpful, but your success doesn't depend on her. Class only meets once/week to review online lectures by Prof Nemrow (retired BYU Accounting legend). Commit to watch them closely and PRACTICE! Put in the time. Class is less content/more application. Tests are fair. USE THE ONLINE TA LAB!
Professor Larson was an incredible teacher. The class is structured in a way that makes it possible for anyone that's willing to put in effort to succeed. There are a lot of out of class quizzes, and you will need to devote a good chunk of your week studying for this class but that is the nature of accounting.
Professor Larson gave us huge practice tests. The tests are required to cover absolutely everything that could be on each midterm and on the final, so if you completely understand the practice tests, you'll do great on the tests. There's tons of resources and practice problems that take time to completely understand, but getting an A is clear cut.
She is one of the best! She is super nice and always willing to help. She knows Accounting like the back of her hand. She is amazing because even with over 500 students she can still make the class interesting enough to capture everyone's attention. I thought this class would be boring, but I changed my major to it! LOVE HER
I regret taking ACC 200 from professor Larson. I would recommend taking it from someone else. I wish she was more helpful and understanding. The average on her tests were not very high.
I really liked Professor Larson. She is a great teacher and made sure to point out ways the material can be applied in the real world (even if you aren't an accounting major). Her tests aren't easy, but if you put in the effort to study you shouldn't have problems.
I went into this class expecting the worst but it was actually quite easy. Just pay attention in class. The online videos you have to watch really aren't that helpful as she goes over all the material in class anyways, just use the online slides to do the reading quizzes. Make sure to do the practice exams and you'll do fine.
Professor Larson obviously cares about her students as much as she can in a 500 student lecture class. The online course was extremely user friendly and was the best way for me to learn. She does a lot of practice problems in class that you walk through with her. It's a very doable course, but make sure it's your focus that semester.
I took her class last semester. I just missed the next grade up. I tried to talk to her and all I got was a mass email. Out of respect I did not try again. I just found out that she moved at least one students grade up. Melissa Larson fair I think not. I have never been so disappointed in a professor.
This class was incredibly deceptive. The work load drastically increased after the add drop date, and the final is much harder than she leads you to believe. Before student ratings, instead of using the class to prepare for the final she gives a feel good speech to get higher ratings then made the final much harder than it should have been
Although this class is difficult, she does a fantastic job of teaching it. She's very clear at explaining the structure of the class and what you need to do to succeed. If you spend enough time going through the practice exams and review quizzes, then you'll do great. If you're struggling in the class, she is happy to give you individual advice
Professor Larson has literally changed my life! She is the only reason I have ever even thought about being an accountant. She is a great professor and really cares for the individual. She does her best to prepare you for exams. Accounting isn't for everyone and I think that is what could make this class difficult for some.
Accounting is a very difficult class and is very time consuming. With that being said, skills taught in both 200 and 310 can help you in your personal life no matter your career. Her class is very clear, well structured, and pushes you to grow. She wants you to get into your respective programs, and will do all she can to help you make that happen!
She was a very nice teacher who clearly cared for her students. Some of the concepts in that class were very challenging. The tests were pretty difficult, but were not that bad if you worked through the study guide.
Melissa Larson is a gem. Learning accounting is like learning a new language and it is not easy nor does it just come naturally, but Prof Larson does a really good job of giving you lots of resources to succeed. She genuinely wants all of her students to perform well, and you can tell. Take her class seriously, and you can get the grade you want.
The class is hybrid so you watch vids & only meet once a week. Pretty difficult material but if you have self discipline and actually put in time studying you'll know exactly whats on the test. The class is curved so the average score is a B. Shes willing to work with you and wants you to succeed. No textbook. Loved this class, just work for it!
The class is incredibly easy if you are logic oriented and have a rudimentary understanding of how a balance sheet works. That said, you have to truly understand what equity is, how assets and firm interests are financed, etc. If you are able to grasp the basics well, the class is great. Test 1-95, 2-100, 3-100, Melissa is a phenomenal teacher.
Prof. Larson doesn't usually teach Accounting 310, which is unfortunate because she did such an amazing job at it! 310 is the hardest class I have taken at BYU. It is a weed-out class. Even though it was super tough, Larson was very supportive and caring and I felt the spirit more in her class than any of my others. Take her if you can!!!
Professor Larson has hit the amazing balance of creating a structure that if followed- makes it almost impossible not to get a good grade in this class. I think on average I spent 7 hours a week on this class (outside of the class hours)- but in doing so, I really began to understand accounting. She is also incredibly caring!
Professor Larson has Accounting 200 set up as one of the best run classes at BYU and my personal favorite. The homework is important to complete, but not excessive or very hard. Going to lecture was always a blast, sit next to people that understand the material well. The tests weren't bad if you did the practice exams and review quizzes.
Prof Larson is a great teacher! The class moves fast and you have to keep up. There's only 1 in class lecture per week but 2 online lectures you have to watch each week. If you make time for the class and the online quizzes, you'll do great! I never found this class overwhelming. This has been my favorite class so far at BYU!
Prof Larson is easily the best professor I've had! She is so clear about what needs to be done and when. She knows her stuff and she does a good job of connecting the content to the real world. The lab was helpful. Steady stream of content that needs to be done so don't get behind. She's so good she almost makes me want to be an accountant!
Melissas super cool and just a nice person in general. This class can be kind of hard for some people but I found it to be really simple as long as you just do all the assignments and take the practice tests. THE VIDEOS CAN BE SO LONG. If suggest buying the packet with all the slides and then u can kind of skip around in the videos
Great professor. No real text book since you mainly watch videos. Like most of the other posts, if you spend the time to watch the videos and work the problems, you will do well in the class (but, I guess that's the same for every class). She is a great person.
This is a great class. Professor Larson is helpful, clear, and positive. Assignments are not very difficult but they can take a few hours. Most of your learning will be watching the accounting videos made by the previous professors. Class is mainly a way to get more credit and get clarification on the more difficult concepts. Can't wait last minute
Wonderful woman and professor. She makes it very clear what you need to do week by week. To do well on tests, I'd recommend watching all of the recorded online TA reviews! This class is very doable, you've just gotta do all the work expected of you (which is way bearable!) . She cares a lot about you, and this class is very fair and straightforward
Professor Larson is an outstanding teacher, and although the class can be very rigorous and challenging at times, if you keep at it eventually it all comes together as the course is set up very well. The grading is organized and she is clear about what is expected.
Prof Larson is amazing. She's my favorite professor I've had at BYU. She cares for her students and explains things very clearly. There is a lot of work, but she clearly explains what is required and provides all of the resources necessary. Be ready to work hard. As long as you put in all of the work and use the resources, you'll do great!
Hard class because.. accounting. But Larson does a fantastic job explaining things and making more practice and help available if needed. Expect a grade that reflects your effort. The material is spread across the semester in a way that promotes learning in the best order possible WITH real world applications (my favorite part!)
The whole entire class is based on a quiz on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. Don't take this with other hard classes. I love accounting but she made it with so much extra homework and assignments. It's easy to get an A on tests though because you can go back and take all those quizzes again and again to study (tests are legit the same questions)
Acc 200 is half online and half in class, so you only attend one 75 min class a week. The online material is mostly videos that I personally liked. The average on tests are usually Cs, but if you really take all the practice quizzes and watch all the videos it is possible to get an A.
Professor Larson is a great teacher, and she is very kind and does well at teaching. But this class was the hardest class I've ever taken. It kind of sucked having it half online as well, soo many hours of watching videos to understand how to do things. There was so much work but mainly the tests were so hard. Most people don't pass the first exam
Professor Larsen does a great job at explaining the material and her lectures are usually insightful but unless acc comes easy to you, be prepared to study hard for the tests. Her tests are manageable but you need to do pretty good on them to get an A. The worst part of this class is the hours and hours of stupid videos you have to watch!
She was a fantastic teacher and had such an organized courseI loved it! Shes very passionate about it and I feel like I actually walked away from the class having learned something, which I cant say about all classes.
She is passionate about accounting and is easily accessible outside of class. However the videos and homework killed it for me. There are hours of videos every other day and you really have to know the material inside and out to even get above a B. Take this only if you have a light schedule since you have to invest a LOT of time to do well.
Professor Larson is a great professor, one of the best I have had. Her enthusiasm for ACC is obvious, and her lectures are great. Do not fall behind. Do some ACC every day and you will do great. Really enjoyed Prof. Larson's teaching style, and how she incorporated spirituality and real-world applications into the course. Excellent professor.
Professor Larson is amazing. She makes a class of 800 seem smaller by working with the students one on one and walking around. She is such an admirable teacher. The worst part of this class was watching all the videos. It took at least 3 hours every week. The final is a beast. Good luck.
Hope you like staring at a screen for hours and hours every week, you're expected to learn everything on your own before coming to class for "review." The dude in the videos hasn't worked at BYU for atleast a decade. I'm not sure is Prof. Larson is just being lazy or doesn't want to teach us herself. Wait until winter semester and take Stice!!!
I'm not majoring in accounting, but Prof. Larson made me want to take more accounting classes. She was easily one of my favorite professors. You have to work hard, study, and stay on top of your homework, but she's really clear in how she grades from the beginning. I would recommend this class (and any class by Prof. Larson) to anyone.
This class was not my cup of tea. I didn't like the math involved and she wasn't great at explaining it. We had to watch SO many videos at home and it was frustrating to have all the extra work. She was so kind though.
I think her class was useful, but it was very difficult. If I had known anything about accounting before taking her class, her class would've have been easier.
Sister Larson is an amazing professor! She is so kind and is a great accounting teacher. She explains everything really well and sets up the class with a structure designed to help you succeed! 10/10 recommend!
I honestly wish I could have gone to class more, you learn moslty from online matterial which is a great help, but she could explain it more in detail sometimes and was very inspirational. I loved her lectures. Do all the online help and practices and you should easily get a B. I had an A until I messed up on the final and it brought my grade down.
Prof Larson is amazing! Yes, the class requires a lot of time, but the work itself isn't too hard. She is great at explaining things and I've learned more practical things for life in this class than I have in any other! Highly recommend.
I absolutely loved her class. It took effort, but the grading material and content was very straight forward and clear. She also provides ample material to you in order for you to master the material. You get the grade that you study for.
Best Professor ever. Learning contents are extremely useful and she explains really good. Take it from her you will not regret it.
Professor Larson's class is a great intro to accounting. Professor Larson does a great job at explaining the hardest concepts like bad debt expense. However, know that she teaches once a week and every other chapter has to be done out of class. The class is curved and some assignments are dropped, so the class grading is forgiving.
I took her Accounting 200 class, and she was an amazing professor. SHe is so nice and she gives amazingly lectures. You have to watch a lot of videos in preparation for class (yes, you HAVE to - or you will not pass), but the videos are pretty engaging and explain the material very well. Not much homework other than that.
Professor Larson has been my absolute favorite professor at BYU so far. Her class is the most organized and her expectations for you are so clear that if you just do what she advises you to, you will succeed. Accounting comes naturally to some more than others, but she sets you up for success as long as you put in the time necessary for this class.
Professor Larson is very smart and LOVES accounting! She shares her passion for it in class and really works to help you understand the material. You'll need to dedicate several hours a week to homework, review videos, and quizzes, but if you stay on top of things, this class is totally do-able!
Solid professor that teaches the material well and has reasonable expectations for students. The online material does a great job at teaching accounting, but sometimes there wasn't much connection between the online material and the lectures. There are four very easy papers throughout the semester and about an hour of work a day. Don't get behind!
In the beginning this class was tough, but in the end I loved it! Professor Larson does a good job of explaining things but it's still important that you do your part outside of class. It's easy to get behind so just stay on top of what's being taught. If you need help don't hesitate to reach out to the Professor Larson or the TAs!
Professor Larson's class takes work but it is definitely well worth it. She focuses on helping you to succeed. This class takes a lot of time outside of class because so much of the instruction is video based. Take the practice test and keep you quiz grades high!
Fantastic. She has high love and high expectations. Her class shreds high school study habits, forcing you to become better. She does everything in her power to empower her students and help them grow. Such a high-caliber professor. I learned almost as much about life as I did Accounting. She's honestly incredible. Highly Recommend.
Prof Larson is my HERO! I love her. The class takes effort, but the expectations for the class are very clear and all the resources you need to succeed are handed to you. The exam study guides and review quizzes are so helpful! Larson makes the topic interesting and she tells great stories from her career and motherhood.
She is a great teacher. Accounting was pretty straightforward. Go to lecture, pay attention, keep up with all the online homework and you are golden. Class isn't super difficult if you stay up on the Norm videos. Also, tests have fewer questions which makes every multiple choice answer count.
Though this class is quite a bit of work outside of class do to it being a hybrid it is great. She teaches the material in a very simple way and gives you every resource necessary to make sure you do well in the class. If you are willing to put in the work you need to do well you can ace this class.
I am in awe of anyone that gets an A in this class. This is such a hard class. You don't think it will be bad until you start taking exams. Then you quickly realized how screwed you are. I spent at least 15 hours every week and I did horrible on every test. AVOID THIS CLASS.
Tests are about 60% of your grade. I enjoyed this class and Prof Larson was very concise and straightforward. It's a lot of work, but TAs are accessible all normal business hours. It takes a lot of work, but it is so worth it. This is the most organized class I have ever been in. You will know when assignments are due, and the resources available.
The class itself was difficult at first. The tests are worth a lot, and the material isn't very intuitive. But the course is very well-organized, and there are tons of TAs to help with any questions. There is a review quiz every chapter that has 5 random questions from any of the previous chapters, which is super helpful later in the class.
Professor Larson is incredible. Expect to do your homework and study hard, and the lectures will be amazing. She does an awesome job of teaching both course material and how the gospel ties into everything you learn about. I honestly think everyone should take this course, if only to learn about life, and how to be a good person and student.
Professor Larson is an amazing professor. If you're into accounting and think you can keep up with it, take it from her! She really cares about her students. However, the class itself was difficult and a LOT of work. The exams were probably the worst part.
Professor Larson was a great professor and she really did want us to pass, however there were hours of videos to watch and take notes on. The shortest amount of time I spent watching the videos for homework was about an hour. The longest time was over 4 hours. She herself is very willing to help you outside of class which I very much appreciated.
Great class, pretty easy to get most of the topics, but the other 10% of information you will need to study hard to commit to memory, which is what hurts you most on tests. While the in-class (or live remote delivery) lectures aren't mandatory, there is some information that appears there that you won't find anywhere else. Not a bad class.
A very very difficult class. The videos that are supposed to teach you are very hard to follow and understand. The class lectures do nothing. I spent HOURS studying and doing homework EVERY week (over 10) and never got higher than a 75% on a test. The worst part is that I honestly don't even know what I missed. Just don't take this class.
Prof. Larson made ACC200 a highlight of my week. I reluctantly signed up for this class based on my disgust for accounting based on my high school experiences. If you are on the fence about taking the class, take the class. Just be ready to commit a lot of time to get a good grade. It sure isn't easy, but it is worth the hassle. Plus Norm...
ACC 200 is a very challenging class. Professor Larson also doesn't really teach you anything, that's Norm's job. It has interesting material but just got dry after a while. But ya very challenging class and having assignments due Saturday at midnight make Saturday nights stressful.
Accounting in general can be a difficult course. While there may be something to say about the difficulty of teaching online, Professor Larson's class is structured well. Tests can be brutal, but the reviews leading up to taking the test are key!
Professor Larson doesn't do much of the teaching in ACC 200, you learn nearly all of the material from Norm in pre-recorded modules. ACC 200 is not bad if you don't mind tedious, yet basic math (addition, multiplication, etc). Her online course is set up better than any professor I've ever had; the structure makes it easy to prepare for exams.
Yo, this class can be HARD. However, it's not impossible. I got a C because I kinda gave up towards the end of the semester (My fault not the professor's) I will say that you have all the resources you need to succeed and get an A if you want it. Proff Larson is great and I would definitely recommend her for whoever has an interest in accounting.
Best online class to take during covid. It's clear what you need to do and when and how much weight everything has. Prof Larsen really wants you to do well. Literally made to be an online class way before covid happened and it's format works really really nice. Have to try really hard and remember that every single point counts. Lots of homework.
This class is a lot of work, but if you put in the effort, it's not too difficult. Professor Larson is so kind and caring, and she truly inspired me in every lecture. Most of the class is taught through videos made by Norm Nemrow, who is the bomb, just beware that they can get a bit boring. Pay attention and study hard and you'll be fine
The format of the online class is really challenging, even with the live lecture once a week. Utilize and magnify all the resources they give you. I can tell that they want you to succeed, but the test grades don't lie (and they won't round your grade up at the end of the semester).
At BYU it doesn't really matter who your acc 200 professor is because most of the class is taught by the Norm videos anyway.
Professor Larson is the most organized professor I have ever had. The way she has set up her canvas is very simple and makes staying organized in the class very easy. This class takes up about 6-8 hours a week just watching Norm videos and taking quizzes. If you put in the time and stay somewhat on top of things this class is easy. Study for tests!
Tests can be super hard, but her and Norm's lectures are great. SUPER easy to get ahold of when there is a problem.
Prof Larson is awesome, even though ACC 200 is primarily taught through module videos by an older professor. Incredibly organized and cares about her students. The tests are always harder than you'd expect, but if you overprepare you'll do fine. Requires self-discipline to stay on top of things as it is essentially a on-demand remote course.
Professor Larson's packet had lots of flaws that were irritating. But whenever I emailed her she responded within an hour with a clear explanation about something I didn't understand. Not a difficult class if you do the work. I only attended our weekly class twice
Tough class but very clear. very organized. Online lectures every week with a short open book quiz at the end. Tests were harder than quizzes because they are closed book and note and the questions are one step higher. to pass them, you need to do ALL the homework and understand the questions, not just memorize them. she also gives practice tests!
Not gonna lie, it was a tough class that wasn't super forgiving. However, the teacher was great and Norm was amazing. If you work hard then you should pass easy. She gives second try exams and did curve a little at the end. Not saying it will be an A, but you won't fail.
Though it was online, this class was not difficult at all. You watch some fantastic lectures of Norm and inspirational ones of Prof. Larson once a week. This was rather an enjoyable time and such a great blessing to know these people. For exams, make sure you go over the practice tests at least 5 times then you will be fine.
I LOVED this class! You have to work hard to do well, but it's not that bad. Watch all of Norm's videos (he is a legend, great professor and funny videos), do the practice problems, and go to the weekly lecture by Professor Larson. TA reviews are also very helpful. This is the most well-organized class I have ever taken with plenty of resources!
Best professor EVER! I definitely worked to get the grade I got, but prof Larson gives you all of the tools to be successful. She made ACCOUNTING enjoyable.
There is no reason a hard-working student should not perform well in this class, Prof Larson makes it impossible to fail with her amazing structure. You can get away with not attending weekly Zooms, but she goes over things that aren't in the class videos that do get put on the test. Each test has 2nd and 3rd chances for up to 80%.
The class is structured phenomenally. Online video lectures with Norm and one lecture with Prof Larsen. Norm's lectures are fantastic! He makes learning accounting engaging and easy to understand. Prof Larsen's lectures were generally unnecessary if you paid attention to Norm. You can tell she really cares and wants to help though.
Prof. Larson and Norm are a power duo! Norms videos are entertaining and do a good job of explaining concepts for you, and Larson cares about her students. With videos and quizzes every week, as well as two midterms and one final, you definitely have to work for it, but its doable and rewarding. Best option for ACC 200!
Professor Larson really wants to give students every opportunity to succeed. She provides a lot of review material and practice problems. You watch lectures from Norm throughout the week and then attend one lecture with her. She gives second and third chance exams to raise exam scores, and overall is a great and understanding professor.
The class takes work, but I wouldn't say it's super hard. It's a lot of memorization and remembering where things go, and if you stay on top of it from the beginning it'll make it sooo much easier. Professor Larson is a great teacher. She explains things well, the class is forgiving, and you can tell she cares.
Prof. Larson was a GEM. The accounting class she has put together is incredible. The best class I have taken at BYU, even though the material was hard. TA's are so willing to help, and you feel like you are needed in the class. Just incredible resources. Larson was always so helpful and shared inspiring stories in class!
Professor Larson isn't a great teacher, at least in online format. I think the main problem is people who shouldn't be in college asking questions that waste everybody's time, but she always seemed stressed and rushed and didn't add to what the pre-class videos taught. She spends too much time teaching college students how to take a test
I think my rating is influenced in at least some small part by my hatred of accounting in general (really, is there a less intuitive subject? or a more artificial one?), but I just need to say it: SHE DOESN'T ACTUALLY TEACH ANYTHING. She gives you materials and says "go." I didn't attend a single lecture, 93% on the final. No teaching value at all.
She's such a sweet, caring woman. It's a hard class, but she does her best to help students succeed. The TAs are basically always available, and you have three tries on the exam (although the 2 & 3 attempts cap at 80). There is so much work outside of class though, and it was definitely stressful. I had to work very hard in this class for my grade.
Larson is great for ACC 200. Not too much HW and I found the classwork very interesting. I set aside 1 hour every day for this class and it got me an A. Professor Larson is super approachable and very easy to talk to. If you have any questions, you can ask her after class or join the TA Zoom session and ask them. Very fun introductory ACC class.
Although Professor Larson was nice, she did not do a lot of teaching. If anything, Norm (the guy who taught the prerecorded lectures) was the one doing all the work. The class itself was very difficult, although doable. The quizzes were a very useful study tool, so be sure to look them over before every test.
Professor Larson is super awesome! She definitely knows the material well and wants you to succeed. She's very helpful and willing to explain things if you don't understand. She's great at giving explanations and told stories as she taught. She was especially inspirational about things that matter most and helping you see the value of accounting.
This is hands down the most well-organized course I have ever taken, online or in person. Most work is done online. I loved having videos instead of a textbook. Prof Larson's lectures are helpful (and spiritual!). The TAs are fantastic - use them! I didn't find the course too difficult, just stay on top of it. I'd HIGHLY recommend Prof Larson!
This is a very tough class, but if you put in the time and effort you can pass. If you pay attention to Professor Larson's and Norm's lectures you can learn everything you need to know. There is about 3-4 hours of videos to watch every week, so it is time consuming. Professor Larson tries to make it as simple and easy as possible though.
This was a great class! The content was very well organized and accounting is a pretty easy subject. I put about 3 hours/week into this class and I feel like it was not too hard to get a good grade. Just do all the practice problems and study well for the tests and you'll be fine!
Professor Larson was amazing. Accounting 200 wasn't the easiest class but she structures it in a way that helps you be successful in it. Even though the class size was 800+, she still made it seem like she cared about the success of every student which was impressive. Highly recommend taking this class from her. Also shoutout Norm, love that guy.
This class has semi hard content, but if you watch the lectures and do the practice problems, it isn't too bad. It is the most organized class I've ever taken.
Professor Larson is amazing! She made class interesting, always seemed relatable, and outlined a clear plan for the class so if you had any questions, you knew to look at canvas because she set everything out before the semester started. She was honestly one of my favorite professors! Also, thankful for the 2nd and 3rd chances she gives for exams
I took ACC200 after fin201 so it felt pretty easy and lots of chapters were a review. Honestly, some of the easiest material Ive had and it just clicked. Good class set up and well organized! I thought it was a very good class for people of all disciplines and there were lots of resources to help learn and study. Straightforward tests as well
Professor Larson is such an amazing professor!! I'm not passionate about accounting, but she made it really interesting! I'm glad I took her class. There is a lot of homework every week - 2-4 hours of videos a week plus other assignments, but if you don't procrastinate you'll be fine. Tests can be hard though and they will hurt your grade.
ACC 200 was a completely online class, yet somehow Prof. Larsen made me feel like she cared. It was very clear what was going to be on the test and the homework and lectures prepared you for it. Almost all of the lectures were recorded by a guy named Norm. If you put in the work, this class is very passable.
Professor Larsen was so amazing. She was very inspirational and I could tell she cared about us. Dont get me wrong, the class was hard. But so are most classes at BYU. If you work hard and study you will do great. We only met one day a week and mostly learned from videos made by a retired BYU professor, Norm. His videos were great.
I did the hybrid class, it was about 3-4 hours outside of class and a 75 minute class once a week. The way the course material is set up is so clear and well put-together. The practice problems and slides are so helpful for studying for the exams. Put in the time and you will do well.
Professor Larson is one of the most caring professors out there. She takes the time to make sure students understand, which is crucial in a class with 1,000 students.
Don't get me wrong she is a great professor and you can tell she is caring. The only thing is the workload in this accounting class, if you want a good grade expect to put in maybe 6ish hours of work per week for this class and if you want a great grade for you to be going into the TA lab
Professor Larson is easily the best professor I have ever had at BYU. She cares so much about all her students and genuinely wants you to succeed. The class is very well organized and easy to follow. If you put in the work you can do very well! The lessons take a long time to complete but they are super interesting and easy to understand.
Prof. Larson is such a sweet lady who genuinly loves her job and cares about her students. She allows 3 attempts on all exams (2 and 3 attempt are capped at a B), but the amount of time this class takes shouldn't be under stressed. One other note of advice- if you don't like video lectures, that's all the teaching you get.
I loved this course! I was so scared to take Accounting in my first semester of college, but it was one of my favorite classes. It was super hard, don't get me wrong, but I loved the video format. I took hand-written notes of everything on the slides in the videos. Got a 95% on the final. Prof was great and I might major in Accounting now!
This course was super well organized and designed in a way that emphasized learning. Professor Larson is an amazing person who truly cares for her students and wants them to do well. The class is pretty hard but Professor Larson did everything she could to make it more enjoyable.
Professor Larson actually cares about students and didn't just spend class going over stuff on the final but stuff that we could actually use and that will make us financially successful later on. I went to class not because I wanted to get a good grade but because I actually LEARNED something. That is how education is supposed to be. Props 2 her.
Loved this class! Acc can be boring but she made it fun. You learn mostly from video modules (loved the vids! Clear, easy, fun). Can take exams up to 3 times (2 & 3 capped at 80%), 10q quiz each week (not too difficult & open note), 5q recap quiz every week unlimited attempts. If you can do the practice exams without help you will do great on exams
The class has provided every was possible for students to succeed. Dropping lowest scores, a TA lab open every day in person and on zoom, retakes on test if you get below 80%, class in person or over zoom, review sessions going over the questions you get wrong, and a supportive teacher that wants you to do well. It is easy if you put the effort in.
Professor Larson has been my favorite Professor! Accounting 200 covers a lot of materials and the way she uses videos and canvas developed with Norm (a former professor) helped me learn it all! Truly she strives to and succeeds at teaching with the Holy Ghost in a way I've seen no other professor teach. She genuinely cares about her students.
Professor Larson gave some of the best lectures this semester. She's incredible. Her class is structured so that students can learn LOTS. Her TAs are incredible as well and teach more simply than any TAs I've ever worked with. This is a hybrid class, so the class meets once a week and the rest of the week is independent studying.
Professor Larson is great! Her material is very organized and you know what to expect up front! She also gives great study resources to prepare for the test so use them! As long as you put in the work to learn the material you should do well in her class! (Tip: I recommend taking the review quiz for each module before you take THE module quiz)
Be prepared for the tests! The first two I didn't study that much and did okay. When I actually studied, everything actually made sense and I did great on the final. You just have to put in the work and you will succeed. It really isn't that bad of a class, you just need to, spread the work out through the week. Don't do it all Saturday night.
Prof Larson is one of the best professors I've had. I had a difficult start (mental & physical health things:) & she was so understanding and accommodating. Can retake any exam up to three times. NOT an easy class; I spent like 4 hours/day outside of class working. Be prepared to work like crazy. TAs helpful. If you take ACC 200, take from Larson.
This was the most organized class I have ever taken. If every class was run the way that Professor Larson and Norm ran things, there would be peace in Zion.
This class is a part time job. A class of 1400 is a joke. Prepare to live in the TA lab and be lost. Tests are overly tricky and can absolutely tank your grade. Proceed with caution
I went to class three times and never showed up again. In class, she'd present crazy difficult problems that would literally never show up on the test. In order to do well, I'm not kidding, just do the practice problems over and over again until you know how to do each one perfectly and you'll be fine. I did that and got like a 96 overall.
This is a tough class. Attendance isn't required, so I rarely went. The 3 tests are a worth 60% of your total grade, but they can be taken 3 times (Attempts 2&3 capped at 80%). Do all the practice problems and practice exams, and then go over stuff that's challenging with TA's and you'll be okay. Expect 6ish hours a week on homework.
You basically just have to teach yourself. You're given about 4 hours worth of videos to watch every week, and then a zoom class once a week... Not a great way to set up students for success. I studied probably 6+ hours for each test and never got above a 75. Tough class, if you don't like sitting down and watching videos for hours, beware.
Acknowledge the stats on this class! really good course, both Professor Larson and Norm were great at teaching complicated material. I really enjoyed a blended class, don't let that push you from taking Accounting, try it. Homework was given consistently, nor did I think that those assignments were very hard. I really really loved this class.
I loved the lectures with Prof. Larson because she is very fun to listen to and has really good stories. She makes things very clear when she explains them. Accounting will take a lot of your time, space it out and don't be a weekend warrior. You will have to work but it is not too challenging if you put in the effort and time.
This class is a lot of work, which mostly consists of watching video lectures and quizzes. If you study, pay attention in class & while doing the hw, & make sure you set time aside to understand the material, you'll be fine. It's a lot of work but it will make sense if you try and go to the TA lab! She's a good professor & is great during lectures.
This is the class to take if you want to teach yourself accounting. Melissa Larson doesn't know how to teach so instead of doing her job she assigns 4 hours of videos to watch per week. Also, professor Larson will not help you at all, doesn't matter your circumstance because she doesn't care about you at all.
The class is completely doable if you do the homework on time and spread it throughout the week. Professor Larson was easy to contact, and the TAs are always happy to help. She is inspiring and wants the best for her students in and out of the classroom. Homework is mainly video lectures because it is a hybrid class. Review for exams ahead of time.
ACC200 is doable. Professor Larson is spiritual but she tests students hard on details and a lot of tricky questions on the exams. Accounting is very detail oriented, if you finish review quizzes and module quizzes then you will be fine. Go to the TA Lab, some of the TAs may not be acquainted with 200, pick the one who knows the content.
Melissa larson is amazing! the class is super organized and structured. she truly gives you the resources you need in order to succeed. You have test retakes which helped me the most in my learning. It is a difficult class but the TAs are great
Professor Larson is so caring! She's really straightforward with what you need to do to succeed in class, don't be a weekend warrior! Watch the videos and make sure you understand the homework and the tests aren't terrible. She also moves the grading scale at the end by a percent or two which was awesome!
RIP to anyone who takes this class after 2022 because you won't have the GOAT Norm Nemrow giving the recorded lectures. Besides that this class is incredibly straightforward. She basically gives you the content of the final exam, but you will have to study. Pay attention to the videos and in class lectures and you should do well (or at least pass).
Took ACC200 freshman year. It's basically an online class taught through recorded lectures with weekly meetings where Larson goes over important topics and problems. As long as you stay on top of your modules, the class shouldn't be too difficult. Make sure to do the modules before you meet for class that week.
Prof. Larson is WAY good! Many say that she doesn't do the teaching herself, which is somewhat true. One lecture a week isn't enough to teach us everything, but I liked it more this way because it gave us more time to do practice problems outside of class instead of falling asleep in a lecture. Advice: do ALL practice problems and you'll be okay.
Fantastic teacher. I really enjoyed the lectures and she is extremely understanding yet firm in her expectations. I enjoyed the second half of the class more than the first because after you learn the basics she then can start explaining concepts using personal life stories which I loved. Dr. Larson cares about BYU, the students and her role in it.
Professor Larson is great! She cares for her students and is good at helping them understand difficult accounting concepts. The class is set up in a very organized way. Be ready to put a lot of time each week into this class. Exams are challenging, but if you are willing to do lots of practice problems you will be fine. Also Norm is the goat
I enjoyed the way Professor Larson taught the weekly lectures, but having completed the online modules prior to meeting in person, I didn't find them particularly productive for me. Thus, I would recommend going to class only for extra help, or the budgeting lecture was really cool. Otherwise, a very well structured class with clear expectations.
Dr. Larson is great but the class itself is just a lot of lectures and learning math at home. Some people like it, some hate it.
Professor Larson is wonderful, I was a little worried about this course but ended up enjoying it way more than I ever thought possible. She makes it about so much more than accounting, but really helps you to remember what matters most in life and education. She designed the course so you have plenty of resources to succeed as long as you use them!
I had very little interaction with Professor Larson. Classes were interesting but felt pretty redundant after the online videos. I'd recommend going if you are having trouble and to get a few points on tests but I mostly worked on other things during the class. She's a wonderful person though and does care about her students.
This was honestly the hardest class I have ever taken, but it has also been one of my favorites. I learned so much. The tests are extremely hard, but if you pay attention to the lecture videos and practice a ton. You will be fine. I love Prof. Larson so much! She is amazing and truly wants her students to succeed.
The course is just videos that are pre-recorded so it doesn't reflect on the professor very much. That being said, when we did go to class once a week, she was awesome. Very easy class if you stay on top of the weekly work. I think the reason some people think this class is hard is because they procrastinate and have no work ethic.
Honestly this class is just a series of videos that you are gonna use to teach yourself. Professor Larsen seems great and puts effort into her teaching, but her involvement is pretty minimal and her lectures are not near as applicable as the videos you'll be watching (side note, her voice is pretty annoying). Great skills learned, mid delivery.
TAKE ACC 200 FROM HER!!! Most of the class is on Canvas, (online, open book quizzes and videos) but in class she is a very good lecturer. Not sure if she teaches every semester, but if she is available take it from her!!!
Honestly, I was worried this class was going to be really horrible but I actually liked it. I'm not an Accounting major either. They redesigned the course to simply the amount of content they teach. It's impressive. The teach the MOST important things and kicked out everything else. I learn more because they make the lectures very engaging.
Accounting is hard and there are only 3 exams the whole semester, but there are lots of resources to practice . TAs are available basically 24/7 which is super helpful. Attendance is not mandatory but for sure go. Study super hard for the exams as they are not long so only a few wrong and your grade will be low.
Prof Larson is wonderful! Most of ACC 200 is online through canvas, so she just reviews topics we learn ourselves in class. She cares about her students and is always willing to help.
Professor Larson is a great teacher. She teaches topics very well. I would spend the week doing my homework and be confused by some things on the video lectures, but when I got to class she always cleared up any questions I had. Just be ready for lots of work outside of class. Studying for tests is crucial. She gives you three attempts on all tests
I'm an accounting major, so this class was quite easy for me. It was a lot of work, but the concepts made perfect sense. As for the professor, she just confused me in class so I quit going to class a few weeks in and still got super easy A's on every quiz and exam.
This class is required for most business majors, so you kind of just have to suck it up and take it. The online modules are pretty long, but you only have one day of in-person lecture which is nice. There is a lot of detailed accounting information on the exams, so make sure to study.
I took this class a couple years back and it was so easy. But I stopped going to class a couple of weeks in since she just confused me with super complex problems that the videos and exams never had us do. Still got a super easy A while barely doing any work. Currently in the Accounting Jr Core
Because this is an online course, there is pretty limited contact with the professor apart from the lecture once a week. Most of the learning and work is on an individual basis but there are TA hours every day and so many resources available for students- this is a course designed for as many people to succeed as possible!
Loved everything about this course but the only thing I didn't like was I felt like a lot of the exam review was content not even on the test. Everything else isn't bad but I know the tests were hard for almost all students however you can retake all exams and have the next one cap at 80% which is nice.
This blended class is very well organized and easy to keep up with. The TA lab and office hours make it very easy to get help when needed. You are not graded on lecture attendance, but should go as often as possible because some of the material is only covered in face-to-face class, and you have 3 attempts on the midterms and the final!
Professor Larson is a phenomenal teacher. She radiates professionalism and expertise in all of her lectures, but this doesn't prevent her from explaining concepts clearly. I enjoyed attending her classes and loved this course. I'd recommend it to all majors.
This was a really good class! Whatever teacher you have won't really impact the class since most of it is online videos and assignments apart from lecture once a week. Professor Larson was super kind and friendly though, would 100% recommend taking this class from her!
If you want to do well in this class, she makes the expectation clear and understandable. Her lectures are very helpful if you come to class prepared. Other than watching the online lectures I did not need to dedicate much time to this class. All of the assignments help prepare you for the exams which are not too hard. Highly recommend this class.
Blended course so the weekly workload consisted of about an hour and half of videos and then a 10 question quiz. You get 3 attempts on exams but after the first one they are capped at 80%. Definitely go to lectures, we go over a packet in class.
She is amazing! I loved the class. I saw that my friends that didn't watch the videos really struggled in the class. The people that did watch the videos did much better on the tests and quizzes.
Rest heavy and are different then what you practice. The final is even different from the midterms. There is a generous test curve (retakes with an 80 cap) however it really only benifits the lower half if the class. With this I tend to get an average 80% on tests (the first time) and this tended to get extremely frustrating for me
Set up with pre-recorded videos on canvas. Throughout the course, 3 different professors explain the concepts in videos, so if one teaching style doesn't match your learning style, you usually get at least one other perspective from a different professor on the same concept. Study for exams and come to class, but the class itself wasn't that hard.
You have to teach yourself everything through these online videos and in class you just go over what you watched. The tests feel unfair (I studied hours for each test and got B's just because the material was just not the same). there are few graded points outside of the tests to make up for it. Its easy material set up in an unfair way.
This is a very difficult class. I spent hours studying for exams and doing the online coursework. She was very nice and respectful, the lectures were pretty engaging. Most of what you learn for the class is online and most of my videos weren't even her, they were other professors in the program. Prepare to spend lots of time studying and learning
You go through one module per week on canvas that take about 3-4 hours overall to complete. I went to this class in person twice this whole semester and did alright because its basically an online course. The tests are difficult and contain some content not included in the module. Study hard and watch the TA reviews online.
The videos explain things well, however, the practice problems are nothing like the tests at all. Definitely need to study a lot for this class and isn't too hard if you study. She can explain things well, but its hard to do well on the tests if you are given the ample practice problems to be able to study.
Class only once a week, not much work throughout the semester, but you are required to memorize lots of specific terms and situations and different things for the cumulative final and midterms.
If you struggle with online courses, DON'T TAKE THIS COURSE! Find an in person. I got by because I hauled the last two units. That aside, Professor Larson is great and cares for her students. She will make an effort to help you. GO TO THE TA LABS!
Class was great, I bombed the first test just because I didn't know how much attention to detail mattered--it's everything in this class. I got A's on the next 2. The content is very clear though there is a lot, half of the lectures were online, which were very good. I loved how straight forward everything was... jut pay attention to the details!
Prof. Larson is incredible and cares for her students. This course was well-organized, so I knew exactly what I needed to do to succeed. Before class, students watched instruction videos before engaging in lectures to practice content. Prof. Larson knows and loves what she is teaching. Every resource is available to students who want to do well.
The class is primarily online driven. If you do not learn well in this manner then you will struggle in ACC 200. The lectures are all videos, and she holds class once a week to go over a couple practice problems. Overall, she seems to make accounting more difficult than it should be. At least the homework is light?
Professor Larson does a fantastic job of explaining difficult concepts. She anticipates what will confuse students and makes challenging topics much more simple. She definitely knows her stuff and will help students who ask for it. I would definitely not recommend skipping class.
Professor Larson is an absolute superhero of a professor. I felt like I had an unfair advantage in the Junior Core having her. She explains things so simply and is so receptive and willing to help with all questions asked during class. Her ACC 200 class is the reason I found my passion for accounting and her ACC 404 class just deepened that passion
I'm taking this class during spring term. Classes are 1 hour and 15 minutes long, and there are 2 classes a week. You have to complete 2 modules a week, and each module contains a pre-quiz, about 1 hour, 45 min of vids u have to watch, and then another quiz. Multiply that by two, and you're spending about 6 hr of lecture-watching and classes a week
The class is heavily focused on online lectures and assignments, but if you stay engaged and use tools like unstuckstudy ai for study prep, you can succeed. The professor is helpful, but attention to detail is key for the tests.
Professor Larson is great. She is very passionate about what she teaches and truly wants her students to succeed. The videos are very well done and I like the set up of the class. Lectures are good but not mandatory if you really don't want to go, but I enjoyed the review of the weekly content. She is always willing to help and the TA's are great.
She responds fast to emails. The class size is huge, so you are in a lecture hall with a few TAs walking around to answer questions while she teaches. She is very enthusiastic about what she does and really wants her students to succeed. Accounting 200 content is not very hard.
If I could take every class from Dr. Larson I would. She made accounting so interesting, and easy to understand! She explains things very clearly in her lectures and I appreciated the clear layout of the class as well. She cares about her students and wants them to succeed as well which is great for such a large lecture hall! 10/10 recommend!
Hard context but she does a good job of explaining.
Awesome teacher! Loved the structure of her class and her dedication to her students learning. Definitely take notes even though they aren't required and you will do great! Loved this class!!
I took 200 from Professor Larson as a blended course, and I loved her. I really don't like accounting, but she made the material engaging and truly wanted every one of her students to understand and succeed in the course. It's a pretty heavy workload, but start the weekly modules ahead of time and you'll be fine.
Prof. Larson is an amazing teacher and provides so many resources to help you in and outside of class!
I love Professor Larson! She teaches challenging concepts well. I was worried going into this class but honestly if you stay on top of the modules each week, and don't do them all in one day, you'll be fine. TA reviews were really helpful for the exams.
Great teacher!
Dr. Larson is great. She designed the ACC 200 course, so she can answer any question you throw at her. The class is standardized, so each professor has the same materials, but Dr. Larson is great at explaining the more difficult concepts. Class is less math-based and more concept-based, so don't be intimidated by it.
Professor Larson is so dope. Super nice and clearly cares about her students. The class is tough, you really gotta apply yourself, but if you take the practice quizzes over and over you'll get the hang of it. Good luck yo
Tough class, great professor. She is very honest with us throughout class, telling us exactly what kind of class day it is and what we need to know for exams. The only problem with her courses is that it is hybrid online-offiline, so sometimes you'll have up to 6 hours worth of videos you need to watch before class. That's not on her though.
it is a good class but a lot of people find it hard. I think the system is a lit bit mediocre because they allow 2nd and 3rd chances on the tests to allow mediocre people earn an 80 in the test. Other than that class is good and but self learned.
The whole structure for ACC200 at BYU is set up for students to succeed. I honestly don't have a negative thing to say about the class. I actually quite enjoyed accounting once I figured out how the 3 Financial Statements interacted. I would advise getting familiar with the TA lab and attending all the lectures.
Really great teacher!!! Not her fault the class is difficult and time consuming (thats the curriculum), but explains the subjects very well and does her best to help us succeed
This course proved to be the most difficult and time-consuming part of my schedule, but I attribute that to the class itself and not the professor. Professor Larson is a very kind and very clear teacher and mentor, but the course expectation is simply difficult as you are asked to memorize and retain loads of information for closed-note exams.
Prof. Larsen was nice and had good lectures. The online and in-person lectures were super informative and I learned lots this semester; however, the final exam was crazy hard. I'm a good student but the final had tons of questions on things we barely discussed and the questions were tricky with a ton of answers that are so close to the real answer.
The content itself can be hard to grasp. Prof Larson sets it up to help you succeed between the helpful lectures and the and tests you can review and take up to 3 times. Most of the learning is done in the recorded lectures and your own time and class is more of a review. Definitely a challenging class but Prof Larson made it the best it could be.
I really enjoyed this class. It is outlined in a very straightforward manner. You do the online work throughout the week, and then meet once a week to review the material and apply it to practice problems. There are a bunch of TAs to help if you ever need it!
Amazing professor and person. I didn't do well in the class, but one day I cried to her after lecture because I missed the 3rd exam attempt and she was so understanding and gave me an extension no problem. It is very possible to do well in this class especially with the extra attempts and TA's, but it DEFINITELY would take time and effort.
She's super kind and engaging despite the class being so large. She explains the concepts well and the TAs are very beneficial as well. There are many resources available to get an A and do well on the midterms and tests.
TAKE THIS CLASS FROM DRAKE!!!!! She talks so fast and moves on from slides while you are still trying to write things down. Drake is way more entertaining and actually makes you enjoy accounting.
The Accounting 200 material is standardized so the difficulty of the course isn't up to her. She teaches well and explains the content in a way that's easy to understand. Honestly is a very good professor!
This class is partially asynchronous, you meet once a week for an in-person lec, the rest is thru lec vids and slides. It's structured well, with mini quizzes after each lec vid that help your understanding of the concepts. There are a lot of quizzes, for each module, there's a graded review quiz and a module quiz taken after the lec vids.
Professor Larson taught clearly, course was well organized. Initial learning came from recorded lectures and was then reviewed with practice problems in-person. The tests are weighed very very heavily. Many recorded lectures by professor Drake were super funny/entertaining so he is a great option too that I would recommend.
She is really great at explaining things clearly. She also somehow answers questions and encourages participation in a giant auditorium. The Canvas course is the most well-structured and organized one I have ever used. You can really tell she does everything she can to help her students succeed in the class.
Prof. Larson is the GOAT! Tons of resources to succeed, makes accounting applicable and interesting.
Nice professor who provides a lot of resources. She often had us try to solve problems with a partner, but this usually resulted in them teaching me something wrong lol. Test questions seemed to differ a bit from practice problems which threw me off. Overall, though she's great.
Amazing professor! Engaging lectures and lesson videos. Plenty of resources to succeed. If you study and keep up with the homework, you will be fine.
Professor Larson was great! This was a blended course; lectures were posted on Canvas, and in-class time was spent working through study guides with peers. The midterms were fair and reasonable overall, though a few questions felt a bit ambiguous. No extra credit offered. Overall, would recommend.
Professor Larson was by far my favorite professor this semester. Although she was teaching a class of around 800 students, I was never bored in her lectures. The class itself is considered a difficult one by most students, but Professor Larson managed to explain things very clearly. 100% would recommend.
This was an amazing teacher. The class is hybrid and has online main lecture work you do every week and an in class portion that goes more in depth. The online section is split between her and another professor who is very funny. If you take time to learn the material, it's easy to comprehend. I got a 100 on everything without a lot of study time.
Super easy class, just watch the video's and understand everything on the quizzes and you'll be fine. Professor Larson's lectures were kinda boring but she taught everything needed fine. Barley did any studying and only ever missed one question max on the midterms.
Accounting 200 is a well-organized class, and Larson did a great job leading class activities that give you practice with what you learned online over the week. She helped me understand the material. With work, this class is doable.
The class is hybrid - online and in-person. Because Professor Drake does most of the videos, I felt like He was my teacher to be honest. Both Larsen and Drake are great. They teach accounting via real-world scenarios, and they are both so funny. I loved this class. The exams aren't too bad as long as you study for them.
