Very wonderful, very clear, patient!
Great teaching style. I never bought the book for her class and I passed with an A-. I missed a lot of class too. Her lectures were VERY helpful and informative and it's what helped me pass the class.
Awesome Teacher.
I took Lisa only for the Lab part of the Geology course. I learned more out of her lab class than I did in the summer school class I took with a different teacher. VERY helpful & VERY nice! feel free to ask any questions. Overall an awsome professor!
She is a really great teacher, and loves what she teaches you. I learned a lot from her earth sciences class. You dont really have HW just study guides and tests that are multiple choice, T/F and essay. She usually give you a heads up on what will be covered on the test. Highly recommended.
shes pretty good

I LOVED this class... If you haven't taken a science class yet, take hers. She is fun, nice, and always has her students best interest at heart. She is AMAZING!
Great teacher but watch out for the Southern accent...
I love this professor, she so funny!! You have to take this class if you havent taken Geology yet. She'll make you want to take all of her science classes. She knows how to keep the interested and in a science class I feel it's needed. You sleep through this class!!
She's GREAT! She is so funny, but that doesn't mean she skimps on the material or that she patronizes her students. She is a great lecturer, really knows her stuff and is so enthusiastic, it's contagious. Take this professor.
Very very good teacher. Works with all of her students....Study guides are a little hard at times but very helpful for test!!! She is funny, will keep you awake and her lectures are VERY interesting.
Awesome Geography/Geology fieldtrips are exciting She is kind, funny, helpful,& knows her science.
She is an awesome teacher! she loves the weather and the earth. This is a fun cals because you get to learn all the different earth stuff. She shows great pictures and makes lecture notes for blackboard for you. Take her lab with her lecture and you will understand the concepts better!
She's a great teacher. Anyone wanting to take Earth Science should take her (or any science, as a matter of fact). She is extremely helpful and understanding. Heck, I hate science and even I learned in this class.
She's a good teacher but the class was a bit hard for me cuz i didn't go to many, attendance is mandatory.. sweet lady and LOVES what she teaches, i feel like her knowledge and skills are being wasted on US!!!
This was a fun class for me. Prof Levy knew her stuff and always helped when asked. She is not an easy A if you don't do the work. But if you attend class, listen to the lectures and do the study guides, you should do just fine.
Great teacher. Very passionate about her subject. Willing to help students out. All study guides are graded. Test are a bit difficult, but if you study and show up for class you will do very well in this class. She does give chances for get extra credit as well. Loves to crack jokes.
Professor Levy is a great teacher! She's very passionate about geology :) Also, she's is extremely helpful and good at explaining things.
Let me tell you, she is the best teacher I have EVER had. Have maintained contact even a few years after the fact. She is amazing, with the cutest southern accent. I was never interested before, but got over 100% because I DID THE WORK! Definitely not a class where you can just skate... But worth every minute!
Her lectures a clear and interesting, and she is funny. She has little side comments and jokes that keep the class entertaining. Just don't sleep in class and do the study guides and you should do all right. I found it to be really easy, and it ignited a new interest in Earth Science in me. I'm not going to change my major, but I really like it.
nice lady, and maybe for 305 she's a good teacher, but for an intro 300 class, she's not. it felt like she assumed we already knew this stuff, and this was just a review course. her study guides and tests are extremely difficult: half the class failed the second test (i passed). unless you know and love rocks already, i would suggest someone else.
This teacher is great, she will make you want to go to class and learn. If you don't get a good grade it is because you didn't try. She is one of the best professor's at ARC
Levy is great. The only way you could fail this class is if you are lazy. She is clear about her expectations and is a fun teacher. There is not a lot of homeowrk but you HAVE to do the work assigned to pass. You get a note page for each test and she offers alot of extra credit. Plus she is funny and the class is interesting. Great teacher.
She's a great teacher. Test arent too hard, just as long as you study. Most of her jokes are obvious attempts and not really funny but i guess thats what makes her so interesting and amusing to watch. Id recommend her.
She is a nice person. No Homework really. Maybe gave one or two assignment besides the study guides. Study guides are long and hard, but there are only 4 throughout the semester. Her tests are very scattered and hard but you can use a cheat sheet, but even then no one gets better then a "C"..very hard tests that cover TONS of complicated material.
Great professor. Lisa is a very nice professor, and wants you to learn. Her tests are VERY hard, but she allows a note page for the tests. Long study due couple of days before tests, and lots of extra credit work. Tests are scattered are cover material not covered in class.
You don't really need the textbook. Her lecture notes along with Google found everything I was looking for. She is a sweetheart. The lecture is pretty boring but what can you expect. Getting an A or B is very doable. She doesn't ask for much, so don't be lazy. I was shocked that people slacked off so often on the 4 homework assignments. Take her
Very awesome teacher, definitely knows her stuff. Extremely helpful and has a good sense of humor.
You'll do well if you come to class every day, due all work, and pay attention in class. Very obvious she loves her subject. Calculate printer ink & paper into cost of class; you'll need to print out her Power Points to follow in lecture. Not much homework, large tests, but you use a cheat sheet. She wants everyone to pass. Take Lab @ same time.
Great teacher! Come to class, do the assigned work, and this class is easily passable. Miss Levy has a great sense of humor and is enthusiastic. Would definitely take her again!
levy is a great professor and loves to teach. didn't like how she lectured with powerpoint but i managed. if you do what little assignments she gives you and pay attention to lectures, you'll learn a lot and most likely get an A.
i enjoyed professor levys geology class. she had interesting lectures and connected what she was talking about with pictures and powerpoint presentations. she is very passionate about the subject and goes out of her way to make sure her students take her. do the extra credit and you will be fine
She is a great teacher who is really enthusiastic about the subject. Powerpoint slides were very helpful, which did help if you missed something because she has a strong Virginian accent. I can say I will not forget the Carolis Effect because of how she described it. You really have to study and attend class though because her tests are not easy.
Amazing Professor with a true love for what she teaches. She ensures you get what she is talking about and gives tons of learning aids. I would recommend if you need to fill your science requirement you use this class with this Professor you wont regret it.
This is an easy class. YOU HAVE TO WORK! Study and its easy. SHe gives you study guides and a cheat sheet. If you pay attention in class you can easily pull a C with no studying because she is such an awesome Professor that there is no way you will not learn in this class. TAKE WITH LAB AND WITH HER, can't regret it.
I learned so much from this class. Levy is a great teacher with a passion for the subject. Tests are hard but she lets you make a cheat sheet, and there are many opportunities for extra credit. I definitely recommend this class to any student.
she was the best. as long as you show up for class and listen to her lecture you will do well in her class.
This teacher is one of the worst professors I've ever had. She has spent the first half of the semester talking about the universe and the solar system. She doesn't even really lecture, just reads off her powerpoint which she posts on D2L and I can read myself. Also she treats her students like children and gave a quiz on her syllabus.
She is a TERRIBLE teacher! Reads all her lectures directly off the powerpoint and doesn't even use the book she requires. Half the class failed the first couple tests because her tests had nothing to do with the material she taught. She is a ridiculous teacher, treats her students like kids and I would only recommend taking her if you want to fail.
If you do what she tells you to do you will do great in her class. Fun teacher, pretty easy class, minimal homework. Great class to get your General Education class out of the way.
Class was hard for me, though very informative and interesting. Though you don't use the textbook much. Good class though. Just study the material and if need be reference the textbook if necessary and you'll pass the class
Professor Levy has a great sense of humor! She doesn't require that you use your text book, and doesn't assign homework, although you should read the book for a better understanding of the lecture materials. She gives many opportunities for extra credit! Shes a great teacher - I would recommend her to everyone! I would definitely take her again.
i liked her. she's no easy grade but i was doing very poorly in the beginning of her lecture class and she gave me signs that i should talk to her. i did during office hours. she's a little more knowledgeable than she is verbal, she knows her stuff but can be quiet. she has a personality she might raise an eyebrow. went from a d-, & ended with a B
Honestly, I failed this class. She reads directly off her powerpoint slides and goes through them VERY quickly. Shes extremely intelligent, but confusing at times. If I would have studied more I might have done better. If you dont attend class you will miss out on a lot. She gives two essay-like assignments which are extremely easy, little to no HW
This class was challenging for me, but she did a great job at explaining the material covered. She also offers extra credit I recommend you do this and sign up for it the first day of class so you can get ALL the extra credit you can! I would recommend her to anyone!
Very knowledgeable and helpful. Very little HW, 2 papers that are very easy to write, field trip, and a few tests. Goes a little fast through the notes, but will go back if you ask. Tests can be a bit hard, especially if you have to memorize rock names. However, I highly recomend her simply because she makes it fun.
The teacher is fairly lax when it comes to attendance. She knows her subject and loves it. She has a ton of energy and if you ask her any question, she can answer it. Make sure to attend class though - her tests are based off of her lectures. She can explain her subject better than the textbook can. Just make sure to take good notes.
I should have dropped this class from day one. She pretty much teaches you one thing and tests on another. She gave us a study guide for our exams but asked like two questions from the guide. If you do take this class read your book and stay at home show up for exams and youll be fine.
Take her!! She loves the material thus the way she teaches is clear, exciting and fun! Offers tons of extra credit, answers any and all questions you have with HELP FULL answers. She is very nice and friendly to her class. Class is easy if you take notes and pay attention to lectures. Take her you wont regret it!
Great professor. Totally passionate about her rocks and loves geology. The first test was pretty interesting and easy but the other two were pretty hard and she puts stuff on the tests that we don't cover in class so I got lost a few times. Lectures seem to fly by though so that was good. Overall, Levy is a wonderful professor.
she repeat everything more than twice, and she doesn't stay on the topic. if you want to be bored, take her class.
professor talks and talks but nothing related to the class, and when she does, she's easy to get off topic. She doesn't take attendance and the test has nothing to do with lectures.
She's an okay teacher. No homework, just two article summaries four tests and a bunch of online quizzes. All her power points and notes are online and I didn't even buy the textbook for the class. I barely showed up, came for the final exam and passed the class with a C with little to no effort. Also final exam was open book open notes! major bonus
Horrible. Off track. Confusing. Only uses her feelings and doesn't respect others points of view especially when proven wrong. Lets people interrupt. Doesn't help with her study guides and mis- matches the words on it so you don't know if they are right. Awful class.
Purely lecture, which made it harder for me to retain the material. She is a cool person and gives you extra credit options so anyone should be able to pass the class but its pretty boring to listen to her talk for forever.
she is a nice person. but everything is kinda dry just off of powerpoint, and test are hard.....
she is a nice person. but tests are hard.....
professor levy is a good person and a good teacher. her class is kind of hard if you are not on top of it. she uses powerpoint and flies by them expects you to print them before class. her study guides make no sense. her tests are very hard because they are short answer and fill in. its not an easy class.
The Easy A way : Test check out the power points which are online, take lecture notes while in class, don't write down anything that is on the power point already, create the 1 page study guide that covers what the test will be on, then bring that to class. Other Stuff Do the two other assignments, or you'll drop at least a grade. EC Do it
She has a nice easy to follow style that caries throughout the semester. She loves her topic so lecture is enjoyable and very helpful for study especially if the notes, available on D2L are with in class, on all test and for preparing a study note page for testing.
Science actually interests me and I tend to get good grades in a science class. Levy's lectures drag on and majority of her slides are just pictures which doesn't help me learn. The class progress moves very slow and she expects you to easily grasp all concepts. You have three exams and one paper. For each exam you are allowed one paper of notes.
Levy is a very nice and funny southern professor. All her lectures are powerpoint based and she puts the powerpoint slides on D2L. She shows a lot of interesting pictures and videos in her slides. Her written assignment is easy if you find the right article. For her tests she lets you bring a one-side page of written notes. Great professor :)
Professor Levy's teaching style is basically she lectures from the powerpoint every day. There are four tests which have multiple choice and short answer questions. Overall boring class!
Study guides have absolutely nothing to do with test. Barely knows the material she is teaching. If she doesn't know the answer to a question she will either try to make a joke out of it or states her opinion. Expects way more than she gives.
Expect to do alot of studying on your own. Her lecture style is obtuse and will blow through slides with helpful notes on them to look at slides with pictures for 10 minutes at a time and fawn of the geography. Tests are okay, but will involve more critical thinking than expected for an entry level GE requirement.
Did not like her at all. She was super picky on worksheets and the tests. You get one side of notes for each test which is pretty cool. The study guides don't really help with the tests so I suggest you read the book instead.
Great instructor. I have taken two classes with her and will never forget them. I am not a big fan of minerals or geology, but she made the class fun. She is a very kind person and will take time to help you individually if you need it. She is very quick to respond to your questions through email. Great professor overall.
I've taken about three of her classes now and I keep coming back to her because she's nice, tells great stories and I love the topics she includes in her pictures. she'll also recommend great places to go if you're going on a road trip, and you'll learn a lot about how the Earth's topography was formed! It's not something that you'll forget easy!
Mrs. Levy is a knowledgeable teacher. Teachers that can rant about the subject in multiple ways so that you can understand are considered to be good teachers to me. She has definitely made Earth Science interesting for me. Don't take this class if you aren't willing to put in the work. Be sure to read and print out the notes before each meeting.
Great teacher, she is very passionate about Geology.
Professor Levy has been one of the most inspirational teachers I've ever had. She is extremely passionate about geology and has encouraged me to want to be more active in caring for our earth. Overall, she's awesome. Take her if you need a geology class!
Nice lady but poor instructor. She doesn't lecture on what you really need to know in order to comprehend the subject matter and to succeed in her class. She seems to assume that most of what is covered in her class is review. She also goes way too fast for most people to absorb the information. As I said, nice lady, but I don't recommend.
This class is extremely vocabulary-heavy and you are expected to know all of it. If you like all things geology, this is the class for you. If you go into this class thinking you'll be getting just a general understanding of geology and be able to pass this class, you will be wrong. In my opinion, this professor expects too much.
This class was average. She is funny & has a good attitude but sometimes the lectures just drag on & on. She only gives homework about 3 or 4 times and they're very short and easy worksheets. One essay, 3 tests. The tests are pretty hard even with the page of notes so study hard! I say as long as you get 100 on the essay and do the hw, you'll pass.
Honestly I went into this class expecting to get a great class experience out of it, boy was I wrong. I am typically an A or B student but this class made me feel so lost! She does not lecture very well and more than half of her lecture doesn't actually relate to the exams. You will spend hours looking at pictures that mean nothing.
Prof Levy lectures for the class period and most of her slides are just pictures. She expects you to know everything about geology but it's a pretty easy class. My advice is to do well on the online quizzes and choose a interesting topic for a written summary. 3 exams, one is a take home midterm. You can also use a page of notebook paper for exams.
most annoying course I have ever taken for my GE's. Who would've thought Earth Science would be this ridiculous? the learning experience is not good at all. She just breezes through chapters in a day, inadequately talking about it from the top of her head using generalizations and expects you to understand it enough to be tested right away, 4 tests
Terrible lectures, and rants about her political beliefs which I find to be very inappropriate. Can even be vulgar when on one of her political rants. If I were to take two tests, one on her political views and one on geology I would get a better grade on the politics test. Pretty disappointing and inappropriate.
Great professor, I do not know what people are talking about with regards to politics. I took her Intro to Physical Geology and fell in love with the field of study. Slightly weird habit of name based seating since people taking up with no ambitions space got front seats. But it was a great class and very generous with points for grades.
Tests are difficult to study for and are on a lot of material. She gives study guides for the tests, which contain minimal material that is on the tests. Make sure to study for the article questions on tests the most. Also, focus on making a good sheet of notes to use on the tests.
This is one of the worst professors Ive ever had. She was so detailed in the lectures and made this class way more difficult than it needed to be. The tests and quizzes are super hard. Takes attendance each class and often times will not mark you there even if you were, and then lowers your grade for it.
Ive never had a more unpleasant experience within a classroom before. I felt insulted that my tuition paid for such an inefficient way to teach a required subject. Your mandatory lectures will be filled with her vacation photos, nonsensical YouTube videos, and youll basically teach yourself the subject via your overly priced book.
For a One unit class, this was ridiculous. Workbook was expensive, workbook was vague in instructing what to do. She admitted one unit lab classes werent supposed to have tests but gave us tests and had them weighted on our grade heavily. Graded our vague labs harshly, acted as if we were in an advanced geology class. Rude/yelled at class a lot.
Cares about subject matter. Online format sets you up to succeed, with practice quizzes that can be taken multiple times using the same questions as weekly quizzes/exams. Study guides provided rarely reflected this information. Video lectures mandatory viewing, I sometimes found the lectures inaccessible as someone with auditory processing issues
This was an absolute awful class. Professor Levy does post a lot of boring and long online video lectures that will make you fall asleep or not pay attention. She WILL give you a pop quiz, we were doing relative dating for rocks and I had already finished the quiz, the next day she posted another quiz the next day due at MIDNIGHT. Don't take her.
If you like to take a lot of quiz with so many questions then this class is for you! Professor Levy will give you a 96 question test, up to a 106 question test! Her final is 100 questions, taking this class is not worth it. AVOID THIS CLASS!
Amazing geologist, amazing professor. She's passionate about the the subjects she teaches. Always willing to make time for you and explain complicated geological processes. I've taken two classes of hers. I'd take more but I've moved on to CSUS (as a geology major - and she had a lot to do with my decision to pursue a degree in this field).
Although this class became easier once I figured out her consistent class structure, I did not enjoy this class at all. Each week there are hours and hours of really unstimulating lectures. I believe way too much information is attempted to be covered in this class. It was really dull and a class that I did not enjoy, however Lisa is lovely.
I got an 89.93% in the class, and I was hoping to get bumped up to an A, but it's fine. Online asynch class, weekly quiz, practice quiz, and discussion. Quizzes are worth a lot, and discussions are only 2 points. I was so close to an A in the class. Had I got 1 more question right on the final, I would have passed lol so I suggest paying attention!
Great professor.
Lisa Levy is knowledgeable about Geology. Each of her lectures go into detail about each and every topic related to the earth. The class is structured well with practice quizzes/graded quizzes and a discussion board discussing about, "What did the student learn in chapter 2?" For example. Highly recommend this professor.
Professor Levy's class has a structured but dry approach. The lectures cover a lot of info, so staying engaged can be tough. However, using Unstuck study and the textbook helps ace the exams. Overall, it's a challenging but manageable course if you put in the work.
Almost your entire grade is based off of quizzes and tests. There are 50-100 questions on a "quiz" and she doesn't post anything early so if there are no peer posts to reply to when you have time to work on things all well you won't get credit. Never had an online class open up things so late.
