STRICT BUT FAIR PROFESSOR NOT AN EASY A THOU, ALOT OF ASSINGMENTS AND PAPERS
This is a very clear professor about her content and what she expects. Her assignment are not hard at all but it seems you can never have an 100 answer, something is always missing. Too much assignments like it is not enough.
Don't take this course if you plan to slack. Dr. Luis is a psychologist and expects a lot from her students. She will assign work, and she will FAIL you and think nothing of it. If you REALLY have a burning desire to become a techer, PLEASE take her class. The work is intense, but you will be successful if you put in the time. I know I wanna teach!
Nice but HARD. Study Study Study
Deadlines are time driven and arbitrary, but expectations are very clearly outlined in the syllabus and grading rubrics. Do not take this class if you work or have other classes. She pretty much grades in black and white and lets the computer do the calculating work. An 89.9 is graded as an 89, not a 90. You've been warned.
Very intense class, but I learned a great deal! Expectations were very clear and I took this class with other classes, it is totally manageable. Grading was clear and fair, I would hope the professor uses a computer to grade, less error that way! I recommend this class for hard working students, you won't be disappointed.
Great professor TAKE HER . This can be the easiest A as long as you do the work and show up . Work supper easy and manageable, made the class interesting
I took her for educational psych, she is a great teacher and really teaches the material well. Although she doesn't appreciate slackers, if you miss a day and theirs a quiz there's no making it up. She's very clear of her expectations and her class can be an easy A if you just put the work into it! Take her if you want to become a teacher.
I took her for Intro to Education and Educational Psychology and the information I learned is great. A lot of work, especially in ed psych, but she grades fairly and the work is all intended to help you.
I love this professor so much. I've learned so much in her class. Always participate in class because she counts that as extra points for the midterm and the final. What are you waiting for? Take her immediately, specially if you are a education major, you won't regret it
I took professor Luis for both Intro to Education and Education Psych. She's an amazing professor. She gives great lectures and you really learn a lot in her class. The class has online quizzes that are made to help you. If you are taking Education Psych with her prepare for a group project and a paper which are all easy if you put effort. Take her
Professor Luis is unrealistic, she give extremely too much work. If the focus on educational psychology is to learn valuable information she needs to stop cramming all that busy work and give more meaningful lectures. Horrible professor
Prof Luis taught me a lot in this class. I know I will use this information, as I want to teach someday. She gives extra points on the big assignments for participation and attendance. She is also clear and I like her power points, helpful.
Great professor! I took her for online lifespan. At first I was not doing the message boards but then prof Luis contacted me and asked me to meet with her. I have not had professors do this, so I met with her and she gave me feedback to improve. I learned a lot. Tests are not easy, so study for them!
I love this professor! I took her for Ed psych and Intro to Special Ed and will be taking her for Lifespan next semester. Her lectures are great and she teaches very well. The assignments are intended to help you learn and prepare to teach. I liked that there were different assignments, besides tests and a paper. Easy A if you put in the work.
Professor Luis is by far the worst professor that I've ever taken at MCC. I would not recommend her
Best professor! I would reccomend her and I think she is very good at teaching. Learned a lot, work is manageable, she is also super sweet and funny.
I have attended MCC for three years and Prof Luis is by far one of the best professors I have taken. She is clear and does not appreciate slackers. The syllabus has all due dates and expectations, so you know where you stand. She also uses the gradebook, so you can check your grades. Give extra points for almost every assignment. Take her!
BEST professor! It appears that there is a hater of Dr. Luis on this site, but trust me- you will not be disappointed in her class! I will say she has no tolerance for students who do nothing and get by. I had her as a professor and as an adviser. Stop hating, it helps no one.
I loved this class with Professor Luis. She has a lot of experience to share about special education. The assignments are interesting, you will write a lesson plan for special education and write IEP goals. She is very helpful and allows for students to resubmit work. Great class!
She is very nice! Her lectures are long but they are very understanding plus she gives break in between them. Also she gives participation points and then add those in either tests. She does give out group projects like ppt presentation. Overall her class was very great!!
Great professor! I took her online Lifespan course. Very organized and gave lots of resources. She also adds points to the final exam for extra work on the message boards. Enjoyed the topics
If you do the work on time, and refer to the syllabus for what she's looking for, you'll do well.
Enjoyed the course- she's clear, gives you feedback and suggestions to do better. I learned a lot
This professor is very clear about what is expected of you. I took the class online and though I felt overwhelmed at first it became clear that as long as you followed the syllabus and did what is expected of you, you will pass. She gives great feedback and always willing to help. I learned more than I expected.
She is amazing, I learned so much information on how to be a great teacher in the future. She is the real deal, it is worth taking her. You will come out with so much rich knowledge, you will get the result you desire, if you put in the effort. She does not tolerate slackers. The best Educational Psych professor at MCC without a doubt.
Overall I enjoyed taking this class. I learned so much from taking her, and she gives good feedback. On a few assignments she'll let you redo so you can receive a perfect score. Participation matters! She gives extra credit on the mid/final if you do! Definitely taking her again for a different class.
BEST professor I have taken at MCC. She is clear, teaches very well and gives extra points. I also asked to observe her in another class cuz she is knows how to teach. I wish she taught more psych courses! Definitely take her!
Dr. Luis is awesome! I know I want to be a teacher and she always gives us info that we need to become one. She's a great teacher herself. You do need to attend class, because she covers a lot of material. Definitely doesn't appreciate slackers, so make sure you follow the syllabus. Overall, I would recommend her.
Take her! I have taken two classes with her and enjoyed both. I like how she explains things and repeats stuff. There are weekly quizzes and cases and a few big assignments but it's all manageable. Make sure to raise your hand she gives points for participation. I used the textbook but used her power points more.
Took as an online class. There are many message board assignments per week and quizzes, but it's an easy A if you get your work done. Big verbalized powerpoint presentation due towards the end. Gives extra credit at the end of the semester. If you are fine with all the work, it's easy to pass.
If she didn't have the answer to a question, she would go out of her way to find it for you. She is in charge of everything in the education department, so she was available for questions about other classes. The class I took was very focused on education students, so if you are not an education major, I do not recommend taking this class.
Awesome professor. She explains things very clear but she is a pushover. If you do the work you will pass with flying colors. If you participate she also gives you points.
Great class. She made information interesting and useful. I want to teach, so the stuff we learned was important. She also loved giving away extra points for almost everything we did in the class, so make sure to get them.
At first I thought she was intimidating and probably the worst mistake BUT I WAS WRONG. She's very straight forward, lectures are interesting and help a lot with the quizzes(VERY EASY). She's very smart and accessible after or before class or via email. Her Ed Psych226 class is great. I was also told she was very hard professor, turns out opposite.
Dr. Luis is an outstanding professor. If you want to be a future educator, take this class, it is basically like attending a teaching clinic twice a week. She is incredibly organized, and she sets the bar so high. But despite her expectations, there are so many opportunities to get an A in this course if you just go and get them. Amazing professor
Dr. Luis is a really great professor. I took her Educational Psychology class and loved it. You can't just show up and pass, but the class is easy enough to pass with some effort. I would recommend you take this class if you're really serious about becoming a teacher or working in the education field, as this is who the class is intended for.
Took her online class this past fall 2016. Message board assignments every week, and quizzes, easy A. Just keep an eye on your syllabus. Narrated powerpoint presentation is final grade. She's very honest and will work with you. Just stay on top of the assignments, quiz's, message board replies.
You have to put in the work to get the grade you want, but she provides you with everything you need to get the work done and to do well! She's passionate about what she does and makes class interesting, fun, and comfortable. I hope to take one of her classes again in the future!!
Hands down the best professor I've ever had. Keeps lecture interesting and students are engaged. Gives a reasonable amount of work but is a super easy grader. If you have the opportunity to take professor Luis, don't miss out.
You need to come to class or you will fail. She's a good teacher and caring, but has strict rules that you need to abide by or else she gets mad. I only used the textbook for papers or projects but used her powerpoints for class.
This is a very organized, caring, and enthusiastic professor! She makes everything down to earth and understandable. She is also clear about what she expects and gives you help and extra points to get there. You do have to put in the work and effort- which is obvious if you want to do well.
She is one of the best professors that I have had in a while she makes everything relatable and answers questions thoroughly. I enjoy her classes and she makes you want to learn more and helps you whenever she cans.
Dr. Luis is the real deal. She is supportive of her students and spends so much time trying to help students succeed. She is honest about what you need to do to get a good grade. I also have her as an adviser and she is so responsive. She tells you like it is and doesn't want to hear excuses. If you want to be successful, she is a great model!
Dr. Luis is the real deal and doesn't sugar-coat anything. She supports students and gives extra credit to help boost grades. She doesn't tolerate excuses from students that slack off. If you want to be a teacher, take her! She knows how to teach and models how to be successful.
I currently have Dr. Luis, she is one of the most passionate and knowledable professors at MCC. You must put in effort but she truly wants you to pass and get good grades. Offers as much help as possible. If you plan to become an educator I highly recommend you take her.
I had Dr. Luis for Ed. Psych. She is a great professor who gives her students what they need to succeed. She makes you work for the grade but is willing to help her students and provide a clear understanding of the material. I would definitely recommend taking her if you have the chance.
Dr. Luis gives really good clear lectures with powerpoint. She gives you a class schedule in the syllabus and sticks to it. There isn't much work outside of class except a paper and group presentation, that she provides extremely clear rubrics for. Your grade is heavily tied to attendance, so as long as you go you'll be fine.
She is awesome! Dr. Luis is an amazing prof. and knows how to teach material. She explains things & even gives you the reasons as to why we do certain assignments in the class. She also has online tutorials for assignments, so I felt like I could do the work & check the tutorial when needed. I learned a lot & wish she taught more PSY courses.
Professor Luis is one of the most caring professors at MCC. She really does take the time out to discuss with you your grades and how you are doing in the class. She wants all of her students to learn and to pass. The work is pretty tedious, but it is worth it because you do learn a lot. Definitely would recommend her for any class she teaches
Took the accelerated 4 week version, moves very fast so you must have good time management. Dr. Luis provides a very clear syllabus with due dates and grading rubrics - follow these, there's no flexibility. Daily assignments and discussion boards - also a narrated PowerPoint due week 3. Very fair grader, easy A as long as you follow directions.
I took the online class with this prof. in 2016. I would not recommend her unless you want a lot of busy work. I took this course because I had to fulfill a requirement. Her assignments are not difficult- they are just tedious. Also, when the online test site has tech. glitches, good luck. The prof. was not sympathetic at all.
Straightforward professor. Everything you need is in Canvas, except the book. Provides resources for everything, including examples of how to approach assignments. Course outline keeps you on track. I learned a lot, but there is writing, because it is an online course. Definitely need to know how to use a computer for this course.
Took this class as a requirement for the Nursing Program. At first I was not happy about all of the writing, however, after I started my first nursing class and had to write reports, I am THANKFUL prof. Luis required writing. I definitely improved. She also supports you in all activities. It's an easy A, if you put in the work.
Doc Luis knows how to teach. Her class is interesting and we are always doing something rather than just sitting around. Every assignment is spelled out and she gives you tons of resources to help you. She is honest about how to do well and supports you.
Prof. Luis is a great professor. Very fair grader. I took her online psy232 class and it was a breeze. It is reading heavy. There is a discussion every week, as well as quizzes. If reading and writing are easy for you, then this class will be an easy A!
she is not an easy A. definitely makes you work for a good grade. she also has a bit of an attitude which made me uncomfortable if I had to ask her something. not a hard class, but she's not amazing either. she wants everything perfect and her way which is annoying. attendance is mandatory.
Prof Luis is a great teacher! I learned so much. This was a hard semester due to the shut-down, but she was organized and provided everything we needed. I also needed a few extension and she gave me them and extra time. The course does have a group teaching demo and she does expect students to do their work. Great course if you want to teach.
Do all work on time or before, show effort, participate and ask questions and you will be fine. There is much to do. But, Luis will remind you of EVERY little thing so there is no excuse to forget or not do something. She is always available. Participation is used for extra credit points. Complete the study guides/read the summaries of ea. chapter.
She is one of the most amazing professors :). The class is very easy but there is a lot of work. If I just studied a bit harder for the final I would have gotten an a- in the class.
I had Prof. Luis for PSY-232 this spring fully online. There is a weekly discussion board, online quizzes, and a PPT/reading assignment. The modules were divided by weeks and the coursework was very clearly defined/organized. She is very organized. It may take effort, but it is definitely possible to do well.
One of my best classes at MCC. Very organized class, lectures in YouTube, it made note taking easier. Theres weekly assignments, a project including a paper, teaching demo and one exam. Everything is there- just follow along and use the resources.
This class was not a walk in the park. You definitely have to put the work in but Dr. Luis is very clear from the beginning and all throughout on what she expects. She sends a lot of reminders. She makes it known what assignments are absolutely crucial if you want to pass the class. She does post videos so everything is very well understood.
This class was organized but lectures were way too long. The Professor is a tough grader and she doesnt care if youre late or made a mistake.
Very organized class. I took it online and was able to handle the workload. Its not an easy class but its important for the major and I did learn a lot of stuff I will definitely use. Prof. Luis gave oral feedback even though it was online and gave us all the grading information. Good class to take with a light load.
It was online and very organized. The syllabus is clear to follow. The lecture videos were alittle long but I just speed them up and they were easy to follow and contained a lot of info. It was not to hard. The assignments for the week were due every Thursday. Overall, learned alot.
Great class! Everything was organized and straightforward. Dr. Luis provides lots of support and opportunities to make up work and extra credit. Definitely one of my favorite courses.
Took Dr. Luis for both Education and Psychology, she is truly knowledgeable. Show up to class, do the work and you will pass! Learned a lot from this professor. She also has a lot of experience and relates to them in class.
She is the most organized professor I have ever taken! There are YouTube lectures, which you can watch at your own pace- they are long but very informative. Weekly assignments are easy and no major tests except the final. She gives audio feedback for major assignments and we can redo the lesson plan. Would love to take another class with Luis.
This professor knows how to run an online class. There are resources for EVERYTHING! The textbook is a free OER and she provides YouTube lessons too. Study guide for tests were provided at the start of the semester plus examples of what to do for every assignment. Does not leave you hanging or wondering what to do. Easy A if you do the work.
Learned a lot! There are weekly assignments but it becomes routine. No surprises. Watch the YouTube videos- she gives you information to answer some of the assignments. Overall, great class to take if you are in education.
Very well organized course. Everything you need is right there. Didnt have to buy a book which was great. I took the 7 week fast course. Two assignments per week. Its condensed but manageable. I really used Prof's tutorials on assignments and her examples. This helps A LOT. She gets back to you and gives you chances to makeup work.
She was a good professor, I learned a lot from her but she can also be pretty rude. She's not the most understanding.
Dr. Luis is the real deal. She has a lot of experience and brings this to the class. Recorded lectures are a little long but I learned a great deal. Everything is in the course and it is clear and well organized. Responds quickly to emails and will point you where you need to go to find things.
I took the winter course, which did require work every day of the session. But, Dr. Luis opened the class a week ahead & I was able to look at the work before making a decision to take the course. She responds quickly to emails and gave me an extension after I got Covid. She truly cares and if you know how to study, you will be fine in this class!
Dr. Luis was great! I took a very short session course with her and it was organized and easy to follow along. She uses a pdf textbook so I saved $. She also answers emails quickly and points me to where to get things. Overall, easy class to take in between the semester.
Very easy class. I am a visiting student and the organization of this class was a dream. Just work hard, read, and do the work. If you want to do well- she gives you what you need need.
Overall solid class. Weekly assignments and a semester long project. Not an easy class to take if youre busy. But learned a great deal and will use this information because I want to teach. Prof does respond to emails and sends lots of announcements and reminders.
I really enjoyed this class and was very hesitant, given that it was a second session course. Everything was laid out and easy to follow. We received extra points which boosted my final exam score and another assignment score. Dr. Luis responds to emails and gives extensions or feedback when asked.
Took in winter, so many discussions, 3-4/week. Required word count (500+ 1st post, 300+ 2nd post). You lose points for posting too close to the due time (e.g., due @ 11:59 & you post @ 11:55; said it was so class & she could provide feedback but I never got feedback, I didn't care, I still posted late). Quizzes openbook 5/week , 2 exams closebook,
I have taken other online classes here, which are taught by the textbook. I loved how Dr. Luis provided her own lectures as if we were in class. I did not want to take an online class but could not fit some classes into my schedule. I am so happy I am made this decision. I learned a lot and even though it was not always easy, I took away a lot.
Very organized, lays out so many resources and tutorials, however, lacks empathy. I took the online course due to my work schedule and because I posted an assignment too close to the deadline, attitude was given. Get ready to do lots of work. I didn't receive much feedback either.
Overall, excellent class! Everything is at the fingertips and open. Prof Luis sends lots of reminders and prepares students to be teachers, so there's no time for falling behind or not stepping up. There is a lot of material. That might be the only con- you have to keep up. But, it's not impossible to do well.
