Excellent professor! Loved going to class, she kept it interesting and straight to the point. You have to attend class in order to do the weekly "pop" quizzes, and the midterm and the final have the same questions on them as the quizzes which makes it really easy to study for! Over all a great professor and would highly recommend her!
AS a night class, she always let us out an hour or more early each week. However, she is really strict about not being able to use laptops in class. Guest speakers usually aren't relevant and exams aren't "easy" because we don't have access to our pop quizzes and their answers as a previous rating suggested.
Melissa is very helpful and full of knowledge! I loved this class! We did not have any pop quizzes. We had to take 5 or 10 small chapter quizzes before class, had 2 exams, and 1 written paper. It was very easy and she loves bonus. Highly recommend!!
Very nice, funny teacher. Don't buy the textbook, its not worth it in the slightest.
Night class once a week so you had better show up to do well. If you attend classes and briefly study before tests and quizzes should get a relatively easy A. She usually lets you out at least an hour early, HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Lectures are interesting and Professor Newman is a niceinteresting lady!
Great teacher!!! I took the night class (3 hours) and we almost always got out an hour to an hour and a half early. She keeps class VERY interesting. Her presentations are well planned and she posts them online incase you miss a class. She's a really easy grader and always offers extra credit. Great class :) Do not buy the text book.
Melisa was a great teacher and is clearly passionate about what she does. Participation counts especially since it's such a long class. Males beware: she is very, very attractive and it can be distracting when you've been sitting there for almost 3 hours. Overall good, would take again.
Take her. Don't buy the book. What brings your grade down is the TopHat thing she uses and the program honestly sucks. But she is passionate about us, about her work, and about making us learn! And you will actually learn a thing or too. Let us out of the night class early. You need to do very well on the midterm because there are not many points!!
I loved having Melissa as a professor. There's never any actual homework, just projects due at the end of the semester. I had the night class, and the lecture always got done early, so if your group was ahead on the Big Idea Project, you got early. Definitely come to class, you'll need the attendance & TopHat points! They really help your grade!
I learned a lot in this class but took a 2hr 50min night class. She wants to leave just as much as we do so many times she skips over material to let us out early. It's nice but when the test comes, and you didn't read the book and don't have all the notes, it won't be easy. The Big Idea project was a huge grade and I worked with 13 other people.
She started off trying to be really nice to all the students and act like she was a really fun teacher saying we have no exams or tests. Then surprises us with a midterm out of no where. If you don't go to one class without telling her, you get a 0% on participation, which is 10% of the grade. She gets really annoying about it.
I would not recommend taking her. Overall was not a good professor. Required attendance and then would not show up to class. Half of the things which were tested on the exams were not covered in class. Taking her was overall, a very bad experience.
She was great! I took her night class, 2 and a half hours long but not too bad. No text book. You get points for attending class, no real homework, exams or pop quizzes. She lays out everything on the syllabus and it's all due a week before the end of the semester. Should be an easy A!
If you already know the most basic things about business, you'll hardly have to do any studying. Attendance is mandatory and it is apart of the grade. Expect to volunteer 4 hours during the semester and to join two clubs for a project. We had in-class quizzes ("tournaments" conducted through Top Hat), which were easy. She teaches the material well.
If you show up to class you will be fine! she does have tests but they are open note and she puts all of her slides online. Attendance is super mandatory! DO NOT BUY THE BOOK IT IS A WASTE OF MONEY!
Great profesor. Really cared about what she was teaching so made the class enjoyable. I recommend taking her class.
Melissa makes class as interesting as possibly and it is clear that she is cares about her students. You could skip class and be fine on the material however I would recommend going for attendance. She makes us do online in class pop quizzes, but they're for participation points only. Easy A as long as you study for your exams and attend!
Attendance not always mandatory but you should definitely go to get the best notes, sometimes theres easy little quizzes you don't want to miss easy points on. Nice and respected professor. Nothing crazy difficult as long as you read/homework, show up for notes and study.
I had her for business foundations my freshman year. Her class was pretty easy. We had tophat quizes about every week but they were open book. And attendence was mandatory for me. She's funny an makes the class interesting. Even though I bombed my part in the group project we still got an a for it and I got an a in the class. I recommend.
She was a pretty good professor. I was late to the first day of class because of traffic so I thought she didn't like me but I got an A in the class anyway and she was nice. There were a bunch of attendance points so definitely try not to skip class plus she uses examples from her real life experiences and makes the class interesting.
make sure you get a good PACE leader, hat will make or break you in the class. You have to do this big group project and some of the PACE leaders just sit there and tell you to do it on your own. If you can request leaders, you want to have Darby she is the BEST. She wants you to do well in the class and help. I heard Grace and Nathan were good too.
Professor Newman clearly has a deep understanding of business. Unfortunately, once she scheduled a guest speaker from my department, yet neither Professor Newman nor the guest speaker showed up to class, leaving 150 students hanging. Unprofessional and extremely disappointing, this certainly affects my perception of Professor Newman and LCB itself.
All semester Monday's were speaker days, Wednesday's were note taking days, and Friday's were group break out days. She only came to class was Wednesday's. It's completely unfair because she comes once a week, then expects a lot of work out of the students. Her tests were unreasonably hard and you have no time to work on the Big Idea project.
DONT BUY THE BOOK!!!! YOU WILL NOT USE IT!! She really knows what she is talking about when she is teaching. She only lectures one day of the week, another day is for guest speakers, and the last day is for the group project. Kahoots are for a grade so make sure you go to class.
great teacher. the projects are a bit much at times. caring.
Do not buy the book. Won't use it. Overall, a good teacher that cares. Go to class and actually try and she will like you. Class can be an easy A if you put the effort in. The lectures are not bad at all and the kahoots at the end are fun. I would take her class again any day.
your entire grade is almost determined solely one one big project. get your project done fast and out of the way and you'll breeze by. weekly kahoot quizzes over the lectures, just pay attention and it is a breeze. love melissa, shes amazing!
Overall, Newman knew what she was talking about. Your PACE leaders are more important and like your professor than she is. They grade your BIG Idea Project, reflection paper, and pace portfolio. Show up to class to earn points for Kahoots. Exams are fairly easy, make sure your BIP group is solid. It will make or break your grade.
Taking this class with Melissa is the reason I switched out of business. She never showed up to class. Mondays were for guest speakers, Wednesdays were for your big idea project (also a very huge waste of time) and if you were lucky you'd see Melissa on Fridays. Your pace leader is your grader and mine was a huge jerk. Do NOT recommend.
This professor class is relatively easy however she forces you to participate in a group project in which she gives each group member different grades based on what her perception is for the level of each members participation. This is worth 35% of the grade and I had an A+ in the class until I was deemed lazy by some unknown metric and got an A-.
she knows what she is talking about, and makes class interesting. grades are based off of coming to class and doing the kahoots, and the big idea project is a huge chunk of grade. come to class and work and you'll get the grade, but it was the least of my worries for classes.
Super easy A as long as you just show up
Mrs. Newman makes lectures enjoyable. Class is very easy.
Professor Newman is very nice,I just didn't enjoy the class. It was all powerpoints, and speakers would come in. Really boring, but easy if you take good notes.
she has a clear criteria of how to get points and pass the exam. i'd suggest taking notes during her lecture because she always has kahoots after each class and it's counted in your grades. The big idea project seemed overwhelming in the beginning but she always points out how/what you should do. Overall, she was a good prof and i'd recommend her.
MGMT 7000 (Organizations) Online Course. Assignments: Weekly discussion boards and quiz (easy), One individual research paper, and One group research paper. Put in some effort towards these and you will receive an A.
I love Professor Newman! She uses real life experiences in her lectures, which makes them much more interesting. She is really fun and passionate about teaching.
Her lectures are really good. You have to go to class, there are kahoots graded by accuracy at the end of her lectures. All of her tests are online, but they can be hard so make sure you take good notes in class. Your big idea project will basically decide what you get in the class.
The class was okay in general but the big idea group project is what made it horrible. A project that we worked on for over ten weeks resulted in failure even after making it like the model that they "promised" would give us a good grade. The highest grade in the project was a D-, very corrupt grading and class. Trap for exploratory students.
Lectures were virtual and not mandatory. Textbook was helpful for quizzes and exam. If we chose not to attend, we just had to complete an alternate assignment which wasn't difficult. Class is project and presentation-based. Grading was very fair. Guidelines were very clear. Prof was accessible and gave constructive feedback.
Weekly modules with easy assignments and you can get them all done in the first two months of school and just wait on the last two quizzes and final. Really easy though just lots of little assignments that are not bad at all. Just take the class its an easy A if its required.
She introduced a flexible schedule for submitting work. It was really nice to work at my own pace. You have to be self-motivated and do work weekly, otherwise, catching up is difficult. Quizzes are based on textbook material.
She stated we didn't have to do discussion boards if we came to class, but when final grading came around I had 0% on them even if I was in class and multiple other students had this issue too. We also had daily kahoots and even after doing all of them and not scoring badly, I ended up with an F in those as well. She seemed to pick favorites.
Utilize quizlet for weekly participation activities- I recommend working ahead. Group project is straightforward as guided by weekly discussion posts. Tests are a bit challenging and given straight from online Cengage textbook. Content sometimes felt as busy work to me, but I recommend taking the online version of Melissa's class for flexibility.
Dr. Newman is a good lecturer. I was signed up for an asynchronous course and I appreciated how she presented the material virtually. The workload was appropriate for a graduate level course.
Very clear expectations for the course and specific criteria for assignment assessments. The lectures supported the reading material well. I appreciated the use of reflection on our own experiences to gain more value from the assigned articles during each module.
Great professor for learning and applying course content to real-life scenarios.
Online course. Clear expectations set at beginning of course. Fair grading scale. Good feedback provided by professor after submission of papers and case analyses.
Very nice woman overall. Emphasis on group projects which can be annoying if you have a bad group. Content was for the most part just very intuitive.
Dr. Newman used a library of clear lectures to teach key subjects from the textbook. The discussion posts she assigned really helped me to critically think about how my organization related to the theories learned in this course. She was also helpful in guiding us through our major group project so we felt very confident in the work we produced.
Clear expectations set at beginning of course. Syllabus provides clear grading scale. Responsive by email. The class has group projects that last the entire semester but it's okay if your group is active. Also has guided discussions to help formulate group project ideas and help the group develop the paper.
Discussion posts connecting theory to life experiences were engaging. Guided us through a group project so we felt confident. Textbook is optional but very helpful.
I thoroughly enjoyed the content of this course! Professor Newman was very friendly and responded quickly to all of my requests.
She is very nice and considerate.
Learned a lot- just do what she says and you get through easily.
I overall enjoyed Dr. Newman, she made class challenging but also offered many opportunities for extra credit and to re-do assignments.
The expectations in this class were very straightforward. The coursework is not to bad, several papers and discussions boards. The tough part of this class was making contact with group members for the team submissions, might be easier if emails were provided. Overall the class was very organized and structured.
Great class, would take it again. There's one paper, two exams, and a semester-long group project. It's extremely manageable if you don't procrastinate.
Dr. Newman is very well organized and grades on a fair basis.
I found her class to be appropriately challenging, and found a lot of the material applied directly to my experiences at my current job. She was very responsive and clear about expectations and requirements of the class.
Professor Newman is a great professor! She gives great feedback when it comes to assignments. She has clear criteria when it comes to her grading and grades fairly. I had her for another management class, I waited to take this course when she taught it so I could have her again. I highly recommend her for all management classes!
Honestly, I would love to take her as my professor for my future courses. She has two individual case study which is easy for graduate students to complete. The other thing she has is a weekly takeaway which takes 15-20 after reading the chapter.
Dr. Melissa Newman was a great professor. She was very clear with instructions. The work load was a little bit heavy but everything was obtainable and easy!
Great course content. Thorough and timely communication.
I thought that Dr. Newman's grading was delayed and often inconsistent regardless of the quality of work. That said, I thought the lectures were very pleasant and the content extremely useful for all.
My frustration with this class came with the two concept tests. All of the assignments and lectures did nothing to prepare us for the difficult exams. The exams were mostly questions based on obscure ideas from the textbook. 50 questions, 60 minutes. 1:20 per question. Even if I had the textbook memorized that still would be overly difficult.
Dr. Newman makes expectations clear and includes group projects for many of her classes. There is a mix of individual and group assignments, but get ready for group interaction and shared grades. Really interesting class material taught well and she is always available for additional help. Overall, a really great professor!
Dr. Newman's material on Organizational Behavior is such a key element for leadership and management at any place of employment. Her case studies, course readings and lectures made the class very enjoyable and easy to understand the concepts. Also, she made them very true to real life situations.
Professor Newman is well organized and makes the lectures entertaining. I found her very responsive to email, and I enjoyed the content very much and consider myself to be infinitely more aware of the inner workings of business and management after taking her class. I absolutely, would take one of her classes again.
Excellent professor. Well organized. Communicates effectively and well. Very fair with grading and expectations. Would definitely take another course from Dr Newman. Thoroughly enjoyed the course.
The pro's where the content with Harvard Business Review articles were very interesting and applicable. The con's where the amount of reading between text books, article and lectures was about 12 hours per week. This class was very time consuming. It was accelerated 2 credit hour half semester but still seemed to be to much for me.
Great professor with great professional ethics at work. She is very understanding when it comes to late assignments. She is not a tough grader. I would highly recommend her.
Dr. Melissa Newman is a very kind professor, she will try to work with you in every way possible. If you stay on top of your work, the class should not be difficult.
I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Newman's class. She does a great job of communicating with the students. Expectations of the class are outlined clearly. Lectures are helpful and just the right length. A lot of reading but articles and case studies were very interesting. Dr. Newman is generous and an understanding professor. I recommend taking her course!
Melissa is one of the best professors at UC. I highly recommend taking any course you can with her! Fair grading policy and the course was set up great!
Overall the professor did a very good job with this course. All the assignments are clearly given each week and you know what is coming up. A paper and the group project are the bulk of the grade so do good on those.
Learned about management skills in the professional world.
This was very productive for the online MBA environment. The majority of the coursework revolves around case analyses and response to different case studies. I'd say the hardest part was the two group assignments in the class, where it was difficult to collaborate with multiple remote students. Besides that, awesome class!
The professor did a good job with communicating with us and letting us know what the expectations were for the class. Was also available incase we had any questions.
A good prof who grades fairly, a lot of assignments though. Some of it seems like busy work with all of the online quizzes and discussion boards. The writing assignments you'll read a bit. Good course and prof overall
Very much enjoyed this class. Dr. Newman was always available and the learning material is explained succinctly and in an engaging way. The group projects were well-designed in a way that are informative and not a hassle. Would take again.
The course involves a group project with written portions due each week so I was lucky with a good group. Her lectures are easy to follow and she makes youtube shorts to define the main ideas. I'm looking out for her future classes for sure.
MGMT3080 is a standard mid level business class. The main assignment is a case study. The basis for which is a video by Dr. Newman… about herself. It resembles more of a poorly made podcast than a college level assignment. She grades harshly and seems more interested in herself than being a professor. The median grade in my class was a B-.
Her class was ridiculously easy and would take it over and over again. I took it online. However, she's inconsistent with grading and I don't think she's really good at managing people which is ironic due to the subjects she teaches and having like 5 degrees in Management. Great class if you want an A, especially online
Grades are based on one case study and a group project, and simply submitting earns 100%. That's not helpful for learning. I have no idea if I actually understand the content, and I need this knowledge for my career. She doesn't teach, offer different perspectives, or give feedback. Recorded lectures feel unprofessional.
