Ive always hated math, I've never been good at, always struggled. She was so helpful!! Wants her students to pass and will do anything to help you
Not the best math teacher I've ever had. At times the way she explained things made sense to her, but not the people that really needed help. Quizzes almost every class. Pretests for every test. A HUGE review for the final, and then she surprised us with another pretest for the final as well. TONS of homework! She did let us work in groups though.
She was tough at first, but when you get used to her teaching style, she is really good. She goes over previous material every day in class. She will teach, then do it with the class, then have you do it yourself. Homework and quizzes done in MyMathLab. Tests every other week, no notes and prefers no calculator on easier material. Good teacher!
I had this class years ago and got an A. She assigned too much homework and relies too much on groups to teach each other. We had a substitute teacher at one point and I felt like I learned more from him in one day than I did all semester with her. She will take points away from you if you don't show ALL your work even if you know how to do it.
Not very helpful. You have assignments due every day mon-friday. 10% deduction each day it is late. This gives you zero time to master the concepts. If you get stuck at all you are going to regret taking this class. I would not take any math class from her again.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!! As if the 130+ homework papers and quizzes weren't enough, she ALSO assigns MULTIPLE discussions and group projects. I HATE IT. She OVERLOADS you entirely. My sister took another teacher and he did NOT assign tedious extras for you to do. Do yourself a favor and find another professor!!
You HAVE to be self-motivated and stick to the assignment schedule she gives you at the beginning of the semester or you won't do well. There's literally an assignment due every day, and they all count. Plenty of review for tests and midterms and she's very helpful, so don't stress too much. Just make sure you do everything on time
She keeps busy all the way to end class with group project and discussions on top of your homework ...
If you're up for the challenge of teaching yourself math 1010 then sign on up! She clearly doesn't understand what "online" means and assigns ridiculous group projects for the sake of assigning extra assignments. Gives awful feedback, and doesn't get to questions asked in a timely manner. Do not take math 1010 from Quinn.
Worst online class experience. Does group projects in an online Math class. Does not explain due dates well, and peaced out half way through the semester. Mymathlab is your bff in this course, as for the instructor offers little to no help.
Melissa is a very pleasant person and was nice enough. However, do not take an online math course if you are not willing to teach yourself the entire semester. Thank goodness I have a background in math otherwise I would not have passed. No help or resources from the professor. Group projects assigned. Homework EVERY DAY. Very demanding class.
I HATE Math, but this class was enjoyable to take. While you DO have to be self motivated in taking ANY online course, Instructor Quinn was very helpful with any questions I sent her way. She also did a weekly help session which was nice. I found myself actually enjoying Math. I would definitely take another online course from her.
Expect a lot of homework when taking a class with her. A homework assignment is due everyday (which helps you understand the concepts). I wouldn't say she was out of this world awesome but a good enough teacher. She did however, change my lowest midterm score to what I got on the final. Which was super nice and helpful! I would recommend her.
Homework due every single night which I understand should help with learning. I spent 20 hours a week studying for this class. No help from the teacher other than webex videos each week that have a lag and are pointless. I got a 76% but failed due to the final policy. The average grade on the final was 49% (!!!) which should say something.
Great teacher. There is a lot of homework, I spent at least 25 hrs a week doing homework. I think it was honestly a little to much homework because I feel like it was hard to retain, but she was easy to reach out to, always willing to help and gave good feedback.
RIDICULOUS amount of honework. Sometimes not math related at all. Prepare to be treated like a child. Wouldnt take this class/prof again.
Took math 980 From Melissa in Fall 2017. Insane amount of homework that is due daily. If you are a working professional this is not the class you should take. You will be deducted if you don't turn in the homework. Often the homework had NOTHING to do with math. Never again.
LOVE the setup of this class and Professor Quinn is SO helpful!
I have loved talking a class from Professor Quinn. I think that she is really sweet. She is willing to help me out. As I am doing a hybrid class, Quinn is easy to reach. She lets you rant to her even if she cannot fix the programs students use for graphing. Over all loved taking this class.
Professor Quinn was an okay teacher. She does try to help you out by dropping some of your lower scores and such. But this math 1010 had an insane amount of homework due daily, approx 2-3 hours a day. In class she has her students teach each other rather then her teaching which was helpful sometimes but most of the time nobody knew how to do it.
Melissa is a sweet teacher who tries to help students in all ways. There is a ton of homework but due dates are lenient so can be done at your own pace. 3 exams during semester and 1 final, lowest exam gets replaced by final. Study and you'll do great.
If you are not good at math definitely do not take it from her. I had so many questions and would get stuck on problems, when I would email her she would take days to respond. That would set me way back especially when we have 2+ hours of homework 5 days of the week. She is a very unreasonable grader as well. I do not recommend her at all!!
This was the worst class I have taken so far. I have never felt this unprepared to take tests in any class prior to this class. She was gone for 3 weeks straight which was a good this because Learned way more from the sub we had. With the amount of homework you do in this class you should be ready for anything but it doesn't prepare you at all.
Quinn is awesome and the best online teacher I've had! I took Math 1010 online and she was great about reaching out, giving feedback and keeping in touch. She is always willing to help and really wants everyone to pass the class. The class is a lot of work and time, but if you do all the assignments and exam reviews you should be able to pass.
I took math 1058, the companion course to 1050. Melissa was excellent. She talks at a reasonable pace and teaches/explains topics several different ways. She was extremely patient and really focused on our individual needs and questions for class work. She has a great attitude and doesn't make anyone feel pressured or rushed. I would recommend her.
The class is hard of course I mean it's a math class but she has video lectures that are amazing and show you tons of different ways to solve the problem and get the right answer. I loved that she was always available and checking in with you to help you along the way if needed she truly cares about her students I'm very confused with her low score
Although this course was online and there was homework every day, Melissa made it easy to understand math. She made sure to keep students updated regularly and made and effort to let you know that she was there to help where needed.
This class was taken online, if you you like to devote 60+ hours a week to homework this class is for you. If not move on Professor Quinn doesnt even present the subject matter she used YouTube videos produced by someone else. She has a lot of busy work. She has no concern that people attending her class have jobs, a family, or even other classes.
You might as well teach yourself math. She uses videos that someone else made for her lessons and barely responds to messages. She crams a ton of information down your throat and you'll be taking exams by the beginning of your 2nd week. I would highly recommend taking a teacher who is more hands on and involved for an online class. Avoid if you can
She is very caring, understanding, and invests a lot of time into making sure that you succeed. If you have the chance to take a math course from her, do it! There was homework due everyday, but they were open-date submission, meaning if you fell behind, you could catch up and still receive full credit. Tests have a specific submission date.
Melissa is the best Math professor I've had. She answers messages fast. I went through a lot which made me fall behind a lot. She helped me do whatever possible to get an A. She makes sure every student understands the material. The deadlines are flexible so it's easy to fall behind on. Stay on schedule and do the work and you'll get an A.
Melissa is the best Math professor I've had. She answers messages fast, and does check ins often. I went through a lot which made me fall behind. She helped me catch up to get an A. She makes sure every student understands the material. The deadlines are flexible so it's easy to fall behind on. Stay on schedule and do the work and you'll get an A.
Professor Quinn puts in a lot of effort to ensure her students success, and as someone who has always been bad at math, it helped a lot. The work wasn't intimidating, and there was plenty of it in each module to help you along the way. She even reached out often to see if anyone needs help as well.
Melissa taught the first of a three part math class I will need to graduate. At the beginning of the semester I was so frustrated I almost dropped out but decided to stick it out, I am so happy I did. She taught us more than just memorizing information. She also prepared us well for assignments and the exams. You will still need to work for an A.
I absolutely loved Professor Quinn. I took her online summer course and it was quite strenuous, but it was relatively easy if you were willing to put in the work. I went through a lot of personal things during the semester and Professor Quinn was very understanding, gave me the extensions that I desperately needed and was such an incredible help.
I took MATH0980 with Melissa and again in MATH1010. The instructor had a very good balance with helping students out and at the same time have the students take into their own hands their own learning and education. When I was signing up for MATH1010, I specifically scouted her name in order to take her class again. 10/10, recommend her for sure
Instructor Quinn is very caring, as well as down to earth. You do have to work for your grade, and I admire that about her. I think she was a fair and great teacher with loads of resources to get through the material. I would definitely take her class again!
Professor Quinn made a really unpleasant subject (for me) pretty easy to get through. It was an online class and I was worried how I would learn, but the video walkthroughs with a printed guide made it very doable. There was no due dates on homework, just our quizzes and exams. She gave great feedback and reached out to me personally multiple times
Instructor Quinn is always very positive and helpful. She genuinely cares about her students and their success.
I took this class online and was pleased. She cares about the students as she reached out to me a couple of times. It is expected for you to take your lectures and homework daily. It was easy to reach out to the teacher for help.
if you like spending 70 hours doing homework and assignments for one class go ahead and take this course with this professor.
Quinn has a good heart, she definitely cares about her students & their success. The homework is a little bit hefty, especially if you take concepts a little slower. Lectures were okay, just wished we focused more on the content than chitchat. One more thing, expect participation and maybe a random cold call here and there. I really hate those.
This course I took online the lecture videos were absolutely amazing. When I needed assistance it was very easy getting a hold of Mrs. Quinn and she was very helpful in explaining how to solve a problem. Dont get me wrong this is a math course and is graded as such. If you dont solve the problem you dont get the points. Its as basic as that.
Instructor Quinn simplifies the process of learning math step by step, which is helpful for students who do not enjoy online classes. The course was easy to follow as she provides all of the coursework at the beginning of the semester and lectures, homework, and quizzes to follow. 10/10 recommend. Would love to have her forfuture classes.
You get at 8-10 assignments a week, a quiz weekly. She needs improvement on her communications skills and responding to emails and text messages in a timely manner.. I am very disappointed with this math class and may have to take it over. The quiz corrections are way over the top and they have to be done with a tutor, be prepared. BEWARE!!
Instructor Quinn is very organized and does a good job with announcing when things are due and what topics are gonna be talked about weekly. The course has a lot of homework but it does help you get the information into your brain so when it comes to exams you'll know the material. She is great responding to questions in a kind and respectful way.
Instructor Quinn definitely helped make this course a better experience. She gives clear grading criteria, and always provides specific feedback to help your skills improve.
This professor is responsive, offers lots of help and support for the material.
This instructor had a great online course planned out, with plenty of opportunities to catch areas that the students might struggle in, and lots of opportunities to resolve that. Each "module" had text examples, and then video examples to reiterate/practice. The exams had plenty of practice opportunities/optional worksheets as well.
The class is really easy as long as you watch the videos and do the homework.
She is kind, and is great at staying on task with new modules, and providing a lot of resources for students to learn.
She will reach out to you when she sees you struggling and will give you suggestions on helping you out to do better.
All of the study material for the online course is prepared and available. If you require assistance, feel free to send a message, and she will respond as promptly as possible.
Coursework is easily understandable and organized very well that makes it easy to work through.
Professor Quinn went above and beyond to ensure the material was understood. She responds to e-mails quickly and makes time to meet with you regardless of your schedule. She does not rush through her online office visits and makes sure you get it. She also awards extra credit for meeting with her.
As long as you put the work in, you will succeed in this class. Professor Quinn cares about her students and makes sure they know it. She uses all resources allowed to make sure everyone ends the class with the grade they worked for.
Instructor Quinn was honestly a pretty great! It felt as if she wanted you to pass the class. She would message you to help you out if you didn't well on an assignment. There was daily homework on the weekdays, but if you time it right you can get ahead on the weekend. Most of the assignments were open and I would take on usually a unit at a time.
This teacher made an online math course understanding and successful. I usually struggle with math, however the material in this course and the teacher and her guidelines made this class very pleasing. I was able to manage this class, and two others simply. If I could have this professor for my next class, I definitely would.
Shes is a great instructor who helps you when ever you need it.
Online 990 was fantastic! I have never been successful in math before. I passed this course & understood the work I was doing.1 assignment due each day M-F & a review & quiz at the end of each module. There is no reason to not get 100% on assignments & reviews, you can try as many times as you need. 3 cumulative exams & the final was cumulative.
Very understanding.
Instructor Quinn is very easy to work with and very helpful.
The professor was great. I am not a fan of online classes as it seemed like endless videos.
Really supportive and provides plenty of resources to succeed.
Instructor Quinn was amazing with responding and cares a lot about her students! The course material was organized and easy to understand! You are able to redo assignments for full credit and she always gives feedback to help. By far one of the best math classes I have taken!
Professor Quinn's goal seems that she wants everyone to succeed in her class. She responds timely and doesn't make you feel like your questions are worthless.
Quinn is an outstanding instructor. I highly recommend her.
There are a lot of videos and multiple assignments due everyday. She is very strict on due dates and grading.
Instructor Quinn did a great job at providing many ways to learn the material in this course and always being available to answer questions or provide additional help if needed. She's also good at being able to explain the same thing several different ways to make sure everyone can understand it.
I really enjoyed taking this class with Mrs. Quinn. She was very engaged with her students and made sure everyone was successful and made sure if anyone was struggling that she was there for help, whether it was directly math related or just feeling overwhelmed.
Professor Quinn is the best math teacher I have ever had! If you have a hard time with math take her class and you will understand it so much more! She puts so much detail in each module to help you with exams.
Instructor Quinn is very caring and is more than happy to assist you if you have any questions. Do not hesitate to reach out. She is very understanding, and if you get behind, she will still want to help you! I cannot stress this enough. MESSAGE HER IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS AT ALL!!! 10/10 for every math class I've had with her.
Great Instructor. I have never been confident in Math. She takes the fear out of math and gives plenty of resources to suceed.
Melissa Quinn's online class is amazing, and she's a great instructor to have. The course isn't hard as long as you put in some time to study for the exams. She communicates well, offers helpful feedback, and makes the material easy to understand. Highly recommend!
I had to retake math 1010 again since I didn't get much help from my previous professor. However, Melissa quinn cares deeply about her students and their success. She always gives great feedback and gives you motivation to keep trying. She's always willing to help and is very flexible. She responds quickly and is very understanding.
Instructor Quinn goes out of her way to be available for her students. She is always helpful when it comes to questions and is genuinely interested in your success in her class. I highly recommend taking her class, especially if you struggle with math. She will dedicate her time with you to helping you learn.
Professor Quinn is kind and attentive in checking in with students and discovering what they are struggling with, then finding how she can help.
I took this class to help me relearn everything from high school before I start my college math courses, and I am glad I did. I was nervous that with it being online it would be difficult to understand, but that was not the case. Instructor Quinn has her course set up nice, is easily accessible, and she wants everyone to succeed. Take this class!
Instructor Quinn was amazing! I didn't reach out much, but she responded in minutes each time. I have never had a professor react that quickly. Her feedback was constructive and made studying easier. Math online wasn't the best for me, but Instructor Quinn made it so it was achievable. Daily assignments helped, but made for a lot of work.
Instructor Quinn is kind, and probably wishes the required course load imposed by the school was a little lighter. I have been told that this is SLCC doing this, not her. This course will have you working on something non stop, every day assignments due. She can be a little harsh in grading but will cut you slack when needed.
Melissa Quinn is a very strict grader, especially with written quizzes/work. That being said, she gives opportunities to resubmit work and provides specific feedback. I loved her online class layout. It was really helpful for a visual learner like myself. She was very willing to help and always sent extra support to her students.
I have had instructor Quinn for both math 0990 and math 1010, and wish she were teaching math 1090 next semester because I have actually been able to learn math and get good grades in math for the first time in my life. It has been amazing to see the improvement. There is a lot of homework, but it is more the curriculum's fault than hers.
One of the best professors I have had. Instructor Quinn is supportive & resourceful and genuinely wants her students to succeed. While the amount of work can seem overwhelming at first, I felt like the online course was set up great. This is the second course I have taken of hers and will definitely take more as long as I can. 10/10 recommend.
Prof. Quinn is a good professor and provides good feedback. However, the course itself requires tremendous amounts of work. The course is VERY exam heavy 40% of grade is exams. 30% is final exam. The math dept itself also has a policy of needing 60% or higher on final or you do not pass the class. I would dedicate 1-2 hours a day for this class.
I would that Melissa Quinn is a great teacher, but I can understand why people may not like taking her courses. The main con of taking her courses is the amount of homework that is present. However, she does provide a doable plan at the start of the semester for you to follow that will keep you on track! I'd say keep in touch with herandmotivation!
Professor Quinn is knowledgeable, kind and caring about her student's success. I took both 0990 and 1010. She was excellent to communicate with and would respond regularly. Professor Quinn also gives high quality feedback on exams, explaining how to correctly solve the equations. That way you are able to use past exams to study for the final.
She had study guides for all the exams. She is a lot better than all the other math teachers
This professor is very caring and optimistic. She wants everyone to succeed and that is very refreshing.
I'd 100% take Professor Quinn again for a math class. It's very obvious she cares about her student's. And while it is a math class with a lot of work involved, she makes it manageable. As long as you stay on track with assignments, and reach out to her if you need help, you'll have every opportunity to do well in her class.
I liked Quinn a lot. She gave a bunch of options for ways to learn, which I thought was cool. There was a free textbook, videos, guided lecture notes and practice problems. The quizzes were pretty forgiving, as were the exams. There was a good amount of work, but if you keep up with it, you should expect to do well.
Instructor Quinn is passionate and committed to student success. She strives to ensure that those taking the course online have all the tools and accessible they may need to be successful and confident.
This instructor genuinely cares about your success. I had coworkers in the same class with different instructors, and I couldn't believe the difference. I had all the resources I needed, while my coworkers had absolutely nothing to help them.
Please please take this professor if you can. There is a lot of homework but she is super helpful if you don't understand a subject or topic! Best professor I've had!
I didn't personally interact with the instructor that often because I didn't need that much help, but she seemed friendly and willing to work with students. It might be helpful to check through the modules ahead of time and make sure they all have the videos they say they'll have; I ran into a few that hadn't been uploaded in time for the module.
Professor Quinn provides countless learning resources to compensate for the course being online. The class is exam heavy with 4 exams in total, but you get in depth study guides and module objectives.
Wonderful professor who genuinely cares about student success, shown through clear communication, announcements, and strong support materials. The class is homework-heavy with assignments due almost daily, so stay organized! Canvas uses Lumen, an integrated textbook with clear explanations, help videos, and multiple practice versions.
Professor Quinn is great! She has a lot of resources to help you succeed and is very supportive.
Use all of the resources you can she provides great assistance.
