Difficult...quizes class when ppl don't do reading...like jr/H.S.
Knows her subject matter, but course clarity needs improvement
Very accessible, tremendous knowledge
Very difficult, needs to be more like her husband.
I can't believe she is married?

she makes history a fun class, and she is very smart. just go to her office for help if you don't understand and she's great about helping you out. no reason you shouldn't get at least a B in this class.
She is very intelligent, but not full of herself like some professors. Her class is very fun and she is an excellent teacher.
She knows her stuff, but to all men reading this... She shows a lot of favoritism to women.
Covered broad topics - NOT dates & names! All tests were analytical essays.

I really do like her class. She makes history interesting. However, all of test are multipule choice and she expects alot from you. You have to do your reading and come to class to pass.
Good class, she's a really good teacher, first history class that ive ever liked!

This is the first history class that I have every enjoyed, it is very interesting. She is a little hard. All the test are essay and that can be irritating. There are also 5 books for this class and we read most of all of them. But they are interesting.
She wants you to read WAY too much...doesnt realize we have other classes to do too. thinks shes better just cuz shes a prof.
very attractive looking!!! nie and a great teacher
All tests are essay, difficult
Very nice professor who cares about her students, and her tests aren't all that difficult if you can write a lot.
I learned a lot in her class
M.Teed was a very good professor, she is very passionate about she teaches. You will learn a lot and enjoy her lectures she is really spunky.
She is a fabulous teacher knows alot, but her exams which are essay and fairly easy she grades so hard it's almost impossible to get an A your lucky if you get a B. She teaches awesome and it's a shame because I can not risk my GPA due to her grading.
her lectures give great detail. Makes it easy to understand, grades a little tough. each quiz is over 1 specific topic, read the chapter on it and you get an A. take notes, study for the exams and you'll do well
Loved her. Loved her. Loved her. She has all essay tests though, so watch out if you aren't into that. Really likes what she teaches, gives you study questions before the test. Lectures well so you can take good notes to study from. Don't be late.
Very interesing and knowledgeble learned alot in this professor's class
She grades kind of tough, but she is really nice when you talk to her one-on-one. She seems like she actually wants to be there.
Dr. Teed is excellent. I have taken her 4 times. Do the reading, participate, and prewrite your exam questions and you can easily get an A. I did not find her difficult at all. She spoon feeds some of the information to you for the exams.
She's a great prof. She isn't the easiest of graders but as long as you show signs that you're trying to improve, she grades higher. Take this woman, she'll get you ready for the tougher classes.
Tired of profs that jump all over the place during lecture? Than take Teed. She is an awesome lady, that prepares you well for exams if you take good notes. Tests are essay, but use the study guides and it will insure you an A if you put in a little w
Very good teacher. Must pay attention and take notes. Tests are all essay but gives great study guide. You should pre-write essay questions because she can meet with you and tell you what to add or subtract in your essays. Great teacher!!
She's a really nice lady, but grades hard on papers. The only B I ever got was in her class. She also grades big on participation, so if you don't like to discuss things, don't take her. Other than that, she's good.
I really really like her. She was super fun and taught history in a fun way that made it real. She does expect you to do the homework but there isn't a whole lot--overall I highly recommend her!
awesome teacher, loves what she teaches. very nice lady. note: participate in class room discussions
ALot of work - dont take if your looking for easy class.
Awesome teacher!!!! She is kinda hard but all you have to do is pay attention in class and take good notes and you'll get an A. Melissa is great about taking time out of her schedule to help you if you need. If you want a teacher who loves what she does, take Prof. Teed!!!
Not good, did not think she taught class good at all, will never take her again.
Great great great!
HORRIBLE TEACHER! all exams and quizzes are essays and impossible, makes fun of you when you asks questions in class. i highly recommend you don't take this teacher, unless you're seriously interested in history
Honestly, I learned SO much, in a fun way! Teed is into her stuff and makes it interesting. But her tests are a challenge - take advantage of going into her office & talking to her about the essays. And just study the lecture notes. Take this class - its a good one!
Melissa is great and obviously loves what she teaches. You need to take great notes, read everything and participate as much in class as possible. Fair grader!
Good teacher.Very nice and well organized w/ lecture. She obviously loves history b/c she gets so into her lectures, which makes it easier to want to come to class.quizzes and exams are essays but she gives you MAJOR hints for the quizzes and a study guide for the exam w/ the essay ?'s on it.take her
Tests are all essay and unless you're a history major your grades will be lower because she's not going to like you.
If you have no life you will therefore have enough time to study and pass her class. She will never be satisfied with your work, If you are typically a B student she will magically trasform you into a D or even E student. She is very smart though, and smart people make other feel stupid!
Very good teacher. She knows what she is talking about. It's not an easy class but if you keep up with your reading you'll be perfectly fine. She is hard on her essays so make sure you know what you are talking about and aren't vauge. *Thumbs up!*
She is an excellent teacher who makes class interesting. All quizzes and exams are essays, however, and she is a really tough grader. If you want to learn a lot, take her. If you want to save your GPA, avoid like the plague.
Excellent teacher, learned a great deal, mostly essays, tough grader. Very willing to help you, go to her office and she is very up front with what you need to know. Find out what you did wrong on the first quiz, adjust your style of answering, study, and you will be fine.
Yes, yes the tests are all essay. It's real simple, though. Come to class, listen, and then write what was talked about. And, yes, she is hot- like a brunette meg ryan with a PhD.
She has so much difference in her ratings because she will pick and choose who to like and who not to. I question whether or not she actually read all the way through one of my quizzes. I asked her about it, and she said what I was missing. I then pointed out that I had those things in my quiz, so she went on to tell me I earned my grade for a diff
Melissa is a wonderful teacher. As a History major, I found her class very enjoyable. The lectures were very interesting and students had chances to speak their minds about topics that were covered in class. I would advise any student at SVSU to take a class that is taught by Melissa.
Dr. Teed is an outstanding professor. She is passionate about her subject materialand brings it to life. Definitely a lot of reading and a lot of work--but that is to be expected for a 300 level course. If you are looking for an easy professor, look elsewhere. Otherwise, I highly recommend Dr. Teed for all who are in school to grow & to learn.
She's a nice person but she is bias when it comes to grading. I compared my tests to my classmates and I was getting the shaft. Mostly because I didn't see things her way. She asks for your opinion but be cautious she wants you to agree with her ideas even though she says she wants you to have your own. Smart, could use some makeup and a newoutfit
She was so rude to me because I did not have the same opinions as her. Very bias and picks who she likes and doesn't like. I will not take her again for this reason. I did nothing wrong to her, but she did not like me for some reason.
She is passionate about her subject. But her tests are challenging. She is very biased and has her pet students. If you don't share her opinions she will treat you harshly. Unless you are very dedicated to history and prepared for a tough road ahead, take her. Otherwise avoid at all costs. She needs training in how to treat students fairly.
She gives very hard exams and quizes, mostly essays. She's a harsh grader and can be unfair or prejudice. Not very helpful- tends to evade questions and forces her own opinion.
Dr. Teed is the best professor I have had at this school so far. For history courses, you can be sure not to fall asleep in her class. She loves her work and really draws you in to the lessons. She loves participation-whether you are right or not. Do your work, go to class, make a comment or 2 and take good notes...you will ace the class.
I thought Dr. Teed was an easy professor. An easy a if you study the notes. Make sure you go to class and stay... Extra credit assignments are randomly given. Any time you are confused ask her for help. She will explain exactly what she wants in her essays. I would recommend her to any student.
If you don't agree with her ideas you need to be able to show TONS of evidence for your idea. Do the reading or you'll have quizzes all the time.
She is frustrating. Seems to be a left winger, a feminist, an anti-American. Really though if you want a good grade all you have to do is write down what she wants to hear; which is exactly what she says. Spends more time on her view than the opposing view, and mocks the other view; very sacastic about anything that opposes her way of thinking.
This lady is the hardest teacher ever. She grades very hard and the tests are insainly hard. The tests are all about writing essays. Very very hard and boring
Do not take her, she was the worst professor I've ever had, and it is really hard to pass this class, she has no feelings at all, and could never be wrong...I strongly suggest a different History professor!!
Bias, Bias,Bias!! She is a single-minded professor! She has her view and that is the only view. She is not a very nice person once you get on her bad side,so u better do all u can to agree with her. Plus, make sure you read all the material,or dont come to class cause she likes pop quizzes! she likes to see students squirm!she's worthless
Melissa was a great teacher. The class discussions were a lot of fun and she is extremely intelligent in her classes. Her tests are tough but, if you study you will do fine.
Horrible. She is so biased it is sick. Shouldn't be allowed to teach. Class should be called history through the eyes of M. Teed. Pathetic, do not take.
I found her class to be highly intresting and intellectually stimulating. She's a pleasure to look at as well.
She is such an awesome professor! She is always helpful and really tries to make the classes interesting for her students!
I had absolutely no interest in history prior to her class, and was simply taking it for a gen ed. Its not your typical history class and she makes it so interesting. You dont simply learn about history, but how to be actively involved in it. She knows her stuff and is willing to help with anything. Tests are kinda tough but she grades really fair
very hard to take notes off her lectures, lots of reading, and you have to do them to do well. take advantage of rewrite opportunities and her office hours
They used to say history is written by the victors. Well in this class it is written by M. Teed. Extremely biased, and really annoying. So far to the left that she is off the map. Avoid.
This class seems extremely difficult when you first start. The lectures aren't always perfectly clear, but if you go to class you should at least pull a C in this class. She grades harder, and her exams are a little difficult for a 100 level class, but it's not impossible. However in Teed's class, you have to work, if you don't, you won't pass.
Teacher graded students very hard on writing samples, even though this was not a writing class. Each class prior to hers, I heard nothing but good things from teachers with writing samples. In her class, not once did one of my writing samples earn a grade higher than a B.
do not take her..she grades way to hard for a 100 level course...she is not clear at all..i will never take her again..avoid her classes as much as possible
not terribly hard. attending class is a must though if you want to do decent. does grade a little bit hard on the writings but tests are mostly multiple choice
she seems to think that she is more important then she really is, she grades tough and the class is boring
M.Teed is a grat teacher. You have to do the reading for the class or you will fail. She gives chances for extra credit. You can tell that Teed loves what she is doing and is totally dedicated to History.Hardly any powerpoints. Her test though ar two parts, first compares materail. The last part is the hardest, pretty much write a 3+ page paper everytime
Lectures with enthusiasm and is very helpful. Asks questions during class to see who has been reading. Requires 3 major papers and the tests can be tricky. Paying attention, taking good notes and reading the material gives an A. Best History teacher i've ever had.
One of the top 3 History professors at SVSU. Prof. Teed is enthusiastic about history like a young child is enthusiastic about Christmas. Very nice, and very organized; as long as you attend class and read the chapter prior to a quiz (which she gives fair warning when and what it is about)you should be able to hold a solid B.
Dr.Teed is an amazing Professor she loves History and cares about the students. If you read all the material you should be fine. She also gave lots of extra credit.
She's a fantastic professor. Very passionate about history, and made what could have been dull material extremely fascinating. Fair grading, with only a couple papers to write. I will seek her out again as I continue to take history courses.
She is an extremely difficult teacher. She expects a student to read extreme amounts of material and grades very hard. All exams are 1 question and you usually pass or fail. But she's an AMAZING teacher but just so hard. I would love to take her again but she expects a level of work way beyond most college students capabilities. Challenging!
Boring lectures, attendance is not mandatory but she does not put the notes online so I suggest going to class. Class participation is worth 15% so try and talk during class. Lots of reading assignments. HARD exams with essay questions. Not a terrible class, but not lots of fun either.
Dr. Teed is very enthusiastic about what she is teaching, very kind and willing to help. has elaborate discussion during class and gives time for others to engage in the lesson and ask questions which she is happy to answer! MUST DO HOMEWORK, and all the reading, but as long as you do that, and engage in class discussion, its a very enjoyable class
I was really excited to take a history class. After this class I am rethinking doing a minor in history. Teed grades extremely hard and arbitrarily. She often took points off because you did not agree with her. If you are a woman you won't have any trouble in this class. The only redeeming part of taking this class is that Teed is easy on the eyes.
Great teacher. Pushed you to learn and think critically. Pay attention to what she says, the assigned reading and do the work. She lets you know what she's looking for and the details to pay attention to. Don't take the class if you can't dedicate yourself or expect to skate through. Got an A that I earned, was not awarded to me for being a woman.
I would not take her again. She expects a lot for a 100 level class, and there is a lot of reading that is mandatory. You will fail if you don't do the reading, and even sometimes if you do. Essays are hard.
Dr.Teed was extremely helpful if you have any question she will answer it promptly and she will work with you if you are struggling. You MUST read all the assigned reading or you WILL fail. If self discipline is an issue for you, I would not recommend taking this class.
Dr. Teed is so energetic and passionate when it comes to History. I like going to classes, but the tests are really hard. There is a lot of reading. The class is interesting but also requires a lot of hard work. Don't take this class if your looking for an easy A, cause you will fail if you have that attitude.
AMAZING TEACHER!
Dr. Teed makes a dull topic, the reviewing of historical primary sources, interesting. She has a dry sense of humor which adds levity to the class.
Teed is a good professor and gets into her lectures but her class is hard with alot of readings quizs and essays that are in class without notes! Do be expecting to get an A not going to happen
If you actually care about learning something and getting your moneys worth for school, TAKE MELISSA!! She is an extremely intelligent, passionate professor who truly cares about her students learning. No, this class is not an easy A...why should it be?! Do the work! You will love her!
Very hard to get an A in this class. No matter what you do there is always "room to improve." Even on in class timed exams she always finds somewhere that you should have added more when it's not even possible. If you don't interpret something exactly like she does you get marked down. She is super feminist, too. At least she's decent at teaching.
Mrs. Teed's class is extremely boring. Not a boring topic but it's show up, sit down, and write notes for an hour and a half. I mean the entire time you will write and listen to her talk. You'll never get out early except for exam day. Nothing is ever good enough to get an A or 100%. Just stay away if you want a good grade for your hard work.
Do not take this class. You will never get a good grade no matter how hard you try. Even if you take all of your papers to the writing center she still finds a way to bring the grade down to a D. Avoid this class at all costs. I wish someone would have told me.
I love the way she lectures. It's not monotone or boring. I always look forward to her class. The professor is awesome. Great attitude, humor, and personality. I admit, there are a lot of reading. And no electronics in her room, unless you ask beforehand. Attendance is a must unless it's urgent.
She's okay. I'm not impressed. I don't think she's that good of a prof. Her lectures are simple, class discussions are terrible, and her grading is easy. I really don't get why people really enjoy her...
This class was a lot of fun, I really enjoyed going to class. There is a lot of reading, but if you do everything required you should pass this class with ease. She does grade hard, but she is willing to help you out anyway she can. I enjoyed this class.
She is a great instructor - requires attendance, but you need her lecture notes for the test. Quizzes are critical thinking, but if you read what she gives you and provide details, it is easy. Provides extra credit.
Don't take this class if you aren't good with history. You won't get a good grade. Even if you do your best ur not going to get higher than a C
Dr. Teed's 111 may be the most well-rounded class I've taken at SVSU. I'm a senior and it's kind of sad that the most well-rounded class was a Freshman level. The assignments were not too challenging but not too boring to where you didn't learn anything. She is very knowledgeable, the class is very fun, and she is extremely nice. Would recommend.
I was dreading taking this class but it turned out to not be that bad. She makes the lectures interesting and offers a lot of extra credit opportunities. Reading the sources is mandatory though if you want to do good on the tests and quizzes.
Stay far far away from taking her for this class. Didn't explain things clearly and if you didn't write exactly what she wanted for the essay questions on the test you got hardly to no points which killed your grade. Very boring professor and some times mean. It made me not want to come to class. Best thing you can do is stay away from her
This class was boring I didn't enjoy it really. Professor Teed tried to make it interesting but I didn't fine the material amusing.
She expects you to pay attention during class, do the reading and participate. Do those things and this class will be a breeze. My class was not very good at any of those things, and it made her slightly upset. I thought she was amazing and passionate for teaching, would recommend to anyone who wants to actually learn about American History.
I ended up with a B in the class, I thought she was a good professor.
Good professor. I hate history but she made it interesting. I needed this class as a basic and it was good. We read a lot but it was all interesting stuff that I didn't know about. It's not your typical history class, it was about defining what makes good history and what is real and fake. Very interesting. She is always working one on one with you
Best professor I've had at this school. Class is interesting and professor is very passionate about subject which made me highly interested in subject as well as made me strive to do good in this class because i found it interesting
Professor Teed is very helpful, and very excited about history which in turn makes the students more excited about history.
Professor Teed is a really tough teacher. Her class involves a lot of critical thinking and participation is a grade, so be sure to participate in the discussion every class. There are online quizzes before almost every class. Lectures were extremely boring. She is willing to help you if you need help though and she gives great feedback.
She is a very passionate about what she talks about. She is definitely lecture based so expect to take notes for the whole class period. She is an extremely tough grader, but is more than willing to work out a solution with you if visit her office hours! Expect to study and study a TON for her exams. They're difficult!
Is overall amazing professor. She is so passionate on what she teaches & how she teaches that it makes you interested in learning the material. Expect to read your reading assignments & take online 10 point reasonable questions quizzes. She expects you to hand in your best. When visiting her office hours, she will make sure you leave prepared.
Great professor. She really cares about all her students and how they are doing. Tough grader is definitely a problem for many but if you have good class participation and read the book the class will be easy.
Class is interesting and you have a better perspective but teacher is very tough and grades tough. lots of essays and she does have 'favorites' youll notice when she divides you in groups which is not good on her part when its all about student rating in their cognitive learning and skills.
Great teacher, really cares and lectures are clear. Tough grader, but if you do what's asked and read passing is easy
talks fo long time in monotone
There is a textbook, sources book and additional sources that must be read before each class, and typically an online quiz over them so a lot of reading. Melissa is very passionate about history and always makes sure that her students understand what she is talking about. Very easy to talk to/ask questions! I don't like history but liked this class
Super passionate about her work, changed my perspectives and made me think a lot! Compelling speaker, her lectures really kept my attention, and there was a lot of class interaction.
Professor Teed is a great teacher but lectures A LOT. I struggled extremely because I am a visual learner and she talks 99% of the time.
She talks ALOT. ALL class period. she's somewhat understanding. but lectures are super boring. Attendance and participation is mandatory. you have to ready every time before class and you have to read a hole other book. its alot of reading and alot of quizzes. a bunch online then 2 in class.
I was an exchange student from Pakistan, with zero prior knowledge of US History. Yet, I decided to stick to this class right after the first lecture, inspired by her passion for the subject. Sure, there was a LOT of reading involved, and getting grades was initially very tough, I managed to get a hang of it later and ended up learning a LOT!
Really enjoyed the class and learned a lot.
She was passionate about the course content, which made lectures very enjoyable. There is a lot of note taking, but if you study and pay attention, you will do fine in this class. Although I did not regularly contact her, she was very accessible and willing to help. I would definitely recommend her and will want to take another class again.
Dr. Teed's lectures are actually interesting. She is so passionate about history and it is reflected in her lessons. I am not usually one to enjoy history, but this was my favorite class this semester. You will have a hard time if you choose not to listen/show up in class and you definitely need to do the readings. Give very specific explanations.
Solid choice for a prof. Lots of lecture but it's interesting. She encourages participation and there is reading and writing, but no group projects! I learned a lot and really glad I took the class
She only lectures in class so be prepared to take notes because you'll need them for quizzes, papers, and the midterm and final exam. She grades her papers as if it was an english class. Make sure you show up and participate in class because if you don't you'll get points taken off each class period you don't talk and don't show up in.
She is very passionate about history. Participation is for grade, so be sure to show up and ask questions/answer questions. There is a lot of reading from outside sources that she provides for you. Quizzes are online. Exams are all essay questions. Be ready to study a lot. If you do the work required, show up to class, and try, you will do fine.
She makes you work, but she's an amazing professor! Teed is very passionate about history and she makes it interesting. The class is a lot of work but it's straightforward and easy to grasp.
Don't take her for Hist 111 unless you're a history major. The class isn't hard you just have to do a lot of reading and comprehend the material. If you're not good at history, be prepared to put a lot of work in.
If you have to take a history class, take it with Teed. I hated history until I took her class. She makes lecture interesting. Take notes on what she talks about more than what the power point say. Do the readings for the quizzes and youre golden. She tells you what will be on the exam. If you arent sure about a certain topic on the exam ask her.
She grades way too hard on all papers and quizzes. Even if you have the right answer she will still mark you wrong because you didnt go into enough detail its a gened class you cant be so hard on students just because theyre not as passionate as you!
Teed is overall a great prof. As the semester goes on she lightens up and she has a good sense of humor! She is a tough grader and wants a lot of details but overall she is great! You have to work for a good grade and if you dont go to class you wont pass but there are only 3 exams and they are all writing based!
Dr. Teed is an amazing professor in the History Department. She makes the class very interesting and is very accommodating if you need an extension or can't make her office hours. You will have to do the readings or you won't pass, but as long as you're prepared to work, then you'll be fine. Overall, an inspiring and tenacious professor.
Dr. Teed is extremely nice and knowledgeable but she has high expectations for tests that are basically papers, which you do not have enough time for. A ton of reading and participating. if you have only her class with no others, then this class should be no problem. But if you have a full course load, I wouldn't recommend.
Teed was a pretty tough professor. She expected you to read a lot of material before class which took significant time during the week. Her lectures are over the sources and quizzes/exams are all written essays. If you dont think you can keep up with the readings dont take her.
Professor Teed is awesome! She is very passionate about what she teaches. Her exams are all written, but she gives you a study guide to show you possibilities of what will be on the exam (word for word). She makes you work for your grade, but if you reach out to her, she is super helpful and gives great feedback. Class is tough, but great professor
I wasnt the biggest fan of professor Teed for the longest time (I didnt even know her name for over half the semester), but she grew on me. She is truly passionate about history, and you can tell she loves to educate minds. Personally, Im not a reader or a super good test taker, so I struggled in that area of the class.
She is very hard and expects a lot out of you. Very difficult grader and doesnt explain why she gave you a certain grade. Very long lectures that are hard to understand and get very boring.
Although History is not my favorite, Professor Teed made some of the lectures interesting with the sense of humor she'd throw in time to time. She seems really intense, but she is actually super sweet and nice! She will talk to you about your grades or any assignment and is willing to help in any way.
I will miss her class very much.
Professor Teed has been one of my favorite professors at SVSU! You can tell that she is passionate about history and truly wants to make the material interesting for everyone. Reading the textbook is required to pass the quizzes/tests. Quite a lot of quizzes and homework was given, but its fairly easy. Go to class to pass and participate!
Spent a lot of time writing my papers and made sure they were written well. Get my grade and they weren't sufficient enough for her. You must participate in class even though it's boring and the topics are dull. She wants everyone to have the passion she has. If you're not a history major, do not take this class.
Professor pushes you to actually learn something. Not the easiest A, but participate in class discussions and put effort into studying and the class won't be bad. She takes a while to warm up to, but she is very passionate about the subject and open to helping outside of class.
Professor Teed is an extremely hard grader for a gen ed history class. Believe me when I say you will spend 6 hours on an exam just to receive a C. No amount of work is good enough for her even if you make your life revolve around her class.
Professor Teed is amazing, her class is difficult, but if you stay on top of the material you will learn a lot from this course. She is very passionate about history and ultimately makes the class very interesting. There's quite a bit of reading, but by doing them the lectures will make a lot more sense because you are being introduced to the topic
She puts a lot of effort into this class & the lectures are amazing. You have to read the readings to succeed. She is a hard grader but she is willing to help you and meet outside of the class. It is not impossible to get an A you just have to work hard but you will learn a lot from this class. I would recommend taking her and this class.
Will you ever get 100% on a paper or a discussion? Probably not, but you'll get close and get great feedback along the way. Lectures are very discussion based and she encourages different lines of thinking. Assignments every day of class, usually short answers or discussion. Fair warning for some triggering topics such as lynching and slavery.
This class was by far my favorite of the semester and one of my favorite at SVSU. Shes a fair grader and has awesome topics to study. She goes over the discussions before there due in class so dont skip if you can. I received high scores on every writing assignment, my advice is to use a lot of quotes to make your points. This was a great class!
I enjoyed Professor Teed's class. She is an extremely tough grader when it comes to tests (which were all essays, three or four on each test), but be as detailed and specific as possible when writing them and you'll be fine. Lectures were slow going but super helpful. Overall a super easy class if you're willing to pay attention to what Teed says.
I loved professor Teed. She's passionate about what she teaches and it shows. She wants you to do well and understand the content. The readings can seem a bit long at times, but as long as you understand them you will succeed on tests and quizzes. Would definitely take any class offered by her.
Professor Teed is very passionate about what she teaches which really helps the long lectures not be very boring. There is a lot of reading for this class. Almost all the quizzes were online and not very difficult if you do the readings. The study guides have the questions that will be on the exams. Participation and attendance are worth 100 points
Professor Teed is one of my favorites! There is a lot of reading but as long as you do it you will pass. She gives you a study guide before every exam that is extremely helpful. She is very passionate about what she teaches and wants her students to succeed. I would take a class with her again.
Overall good teacher. Just take good notes in class and get your quizzes done each week. Study for tests for at least an hour or two and you'll be fine, just know basic understanding of what is going on. Really helps to find a study buddy that is in the same class.
Professor Teed's class isn't that hard if you show up, do the assigned quizzes, and study for the exams for at least 2-3 hours. The course is very lecture heavy, but Professor Teed's lectures are very interesting to listen too. I would 100% take her class again!
Attend class. Attendance isn't mandatory but you will miss a lot. It is very lecture heavy but Teed makes them easy to listen to. LOTS of reading outside of class that will impact your grade if you don't do. Exams consist of basically writing an essay and in addition a couple paragraph answers. Don't take if you hate writing essays or paragraphs.
Professor Teed is such a good professor! Go to class, take good notes, contribute in discussions, and do the exam review and you will be golden! Lots of extra credit opportunities and you can tell she cares so much about what she teaches.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. Class is lecture heavy, but she is very passionate & tells lecture like a story, making it interesting. I did great , but I went to class & made sure to pay attention when I was in lecture. If you are not willing to do that, this is not the class for you. If you show up and pay attention this class will go smoothly.
I loved Professor Teed, honestly! Her class is a little difficult though. You have tests that need to have clear evidence from things that you have read, but have to memorize. Her tests are all written, but it is one of those tests that if you know what you are trying to talk about, she will give you the credit. Make sure to participate!
Teed is very informed and passionate about what she teaches. She may grade tough at times, but as long as you give complete and strong answers you will be fine. Try to participate in class since that is graded.
She is so caring and truly tries to make sure that you succeed in her class. Her lectures are entertaining and you feel comfortable asking questions in class. She does grade on participation but it is so easy to get those points, I would take her again and again.
Prof Teed was a great professor. The class is very lecture heavy, but she makes the lectures engaging and fun. Make sure you participate in class as it is for a grade. The exams are all written; she will give you around 8 questions beforehand, and she will choose 3-5 that will be on the exam.
She's a great professor who is enthusiastic about history. If you read all of the readings she assigns you will pass. Participation is graded but it's easy to participate in class. Very easy to talk to. Would take again!
Professor Teed is a great history professor. Attendance is mandatory with the exception of 2 classes. If you pay attention and complete the readings you will easily pass this class. She offers extra credit later in the term that is very easy to complete as well. If you can take her class, do it.
I used to hate history class until I took 100B with Prof. Teed. She explains history like one big story. It's engaging, exciting, and I looked forward to her class all the time. Personally not a fan of the essay exams, but it did help make sure I remembered the content rather than memorizing dates and events. Take this class with her!!!!!
Teed is a very solid professor. She gives good lectures and will answer any questions you have. She can be a bit of a tough grader at times, but her critiques are always reasonable. You may have a decent workload but you feel like you are actually learning something. Be sure to participate!
Loved this class and Teed! She does give very low points on assignments like 5 points for one 250 word discussion post. Exams are taken at home, usually 2-3 essays based off the reading for that unit, worth 100 points. The class was great and Teed is really understanding! She does give participation points though!
Exceptionally good at teaching. She is passionate and understanding when teaching. Grading and homework is simple, yet can be time consuming. But if you do the work and go to class you are golden. She is a caring and understanding person as well when it comes to personal issues. It was also easy to be attentive due to her teaching style.
Professor Teed is an amazing professor. If you have any ability to take any of her classes I would strongly recommend. This class has a decent amount of writing however if you are decent with time management you should have no problems. You need to participate in the class for a end of semester class participation grade but that is very easy.
Professor Teed cares about what she teaches and her students. Participations 100% maters and is a major impact on your grade. Reading is also quite important but she clearly explains how to get full marks and how to not get the grade you want. 10/10 recommend for someone who is even a little interested in history.
Mellissa Teed taught the best history class I've ever taken. I retained most of what was taught. There was a fair amount of reading, but I got by only reading what felt necessary. Professor Teed was always funny and she really cares about the well-being of students.
I loved this class. She was very prepared for class, and didn't just go off of the power points. We had class discussions about the unit each class. Her exams are all essay questions, but she gave us the exam questions ahead of time so we could have well thought out answers. She is very passionate about what she does.
I love Teed. She is a great teacher and great at keeping you engaged. You need to actively participate in discussions in class as you're graded on that. 4 writing assignments and our final is an essay. She's a tough grader but other than that she's great.
Best professor ever. She was so passionate while teaching, making the lecture so much more interesting. There are quite a few quizzes to do but they are done outside of class and aren't too hard. I've never been great at history but she has changed that completely. Absolutely fantastic at her job. Always comes prepared with great lectures.
An excessive amount of reading is required for a freshman level course. Very strict grader with unclear rubrics. Sometimes likes to change criteria after submission.
Her lectures are great and full of information however when doing the writing assignments and exams she can be very tough when grading. You kind of need to be a good writer and understand the depths of history to excel in the class. But if you do the work and get it in on time, pay attention, study for exams, and take notes you will do fine.
Teeds lectures and material are great, and she shows her passion for the topic of history. However, if you do not do well with essay question exams tread carefully as all her exams are essay exams in class that you will have to answer questions and provide multiple sources that you are required to memorize.
I thoroughly enjoyed Prof. Teed class. I usually get extremely bored in history classes but she is so passionate about the class that she makes it interesting. It's easy to pay attention and actually be engaged in the information she is saying. Her exam set up is very nice and clear. She is very caring and wants to see you pass. Overall great.
Professor Teed's lectures are engaging and insightful. While the essay exams can be challenging, attending class and staying on top of the material makes this course manageable. I found Unstuckstudy helpful for organizing my notes and prepping for tests.
Nothing was ever good enough for her. She talks like she's an inspirational speaker about history-it's awful. She isn't clear on exactly what she wants for exams. There are NO assignments, only quizzes, and exams. Her exams were all essay questions, and I would memorize citations from her assigned readings and lectures and still failed these exams.
She was a nice lady but I had to withdrawal because nothing was ever good enough for her. I went to office hours, asked for help and guidance and was still doing awful on all of her assignments. The exams are insanely hard for no reason as well. You also have to participate every class or she will lower your grade.
She is a very lecture heavy teacher, giving a lecture of a slide show all class every class. You get quizzes and tests for ur grades and that's really it. With being lecture heavy it's hard to pick up stuff.
This was my 3rd time with Dr. Teed. She is one of the best history department professors SVSU has. In this course you are expected to work, but if you put effort in, your grade will be just fine. She is always accessible to help on assignments or projects, which you should take advantage of. If you need to take a history class, take it with her.
she acts like it's a english course. she grades on how you write.
She was nice but is very passionate about what she's teaching and requires participation. Often the questions were hypothetical and when writing your honestly on your own. She often wants you to write deeper than what the question is asking.
I really liked this class, the only reason I got a C was because I didn't study for the final as much as I should've and I forgot about quizzes a few times. If you pay attention this class is so easy and the way her exams are set up you cannot fail as long as you study. She is very passionate about history and it was very fun to learn from her.
She gives really good lectures with a lot of information, and it is very clear that she loves what she does. But, if you miss a lecture, you are lowkey screwed because she doesn't really post a lot of information on her canvas. The workload isn't bad at all, but the tests are pretty hard and graded pretty tough.
Very good class, very lecture heavy and discussion orientated. Showing up to class will definitely help your grade, mostly writing assignments where she likes an in depth analysis. Great way to understand history though.
She is very easy to listen to and clear about what she wants her students to do.
Loved her. Still remember everything I was taught
