She knows her****, but she's too fanatical about a 1010 class! I hear her Marine Biology class is worse. She jumps around in slides during her presentations, just seems really unorganized. She says she tests off her lectures, but things appear on the tests that aren't in the notes, so read up!

I thought that she was an excellent teacher. If you listen and take notes on what is given in the slides you will do fine on the tests. I passed the class with an easy 'A'. Very interesting material covered, but she may be a little boring to listen too.

This teacher was good at relating the material to the medical profession which made it more interesting. I was very suprised to get a 94% on her first test..my grade slipped to a B+ overall but that's because i stopped coming to class all the time.

Although she might be a little bit off socially, and laughs at all her own jokes, Melissa is an excellent teacher. She truly is concerned about you learning the material. If you download her lectures and go to class there is no way you can do poorly in her class.

Expect to do oodles of Vocab, but if you know and study it for the tests, you'll do fine. Don't miss class. When studying for the tests, know your chapter points and you will be fine. If you ever have a problem, go talk to Melissa and she will help you solve it.

I had study so hard and I just pass with c+. Her tests is not easy and she not clear,speak to fast and run in the chapters. You need list study 4 hs after ou before class to understand the class. I not recommended this teacher for nobody.

Her class was great! if you listen to her power point lectures and take notes you'll get an A. Her tests aren't hard and she is willing to help you if you don't understand everything. And the project at the end raised my grade a whole letter grade

One of the best professors I ever had!! Every question answered till you understand completly. Has already printed notes and diagrams to print out and study from. Goes over questions you may have before taking tests. You won't find a better teacher than her!! Made the class so intersting and applied it to life.

Melissa is very explanitory on her lectures she dosen't trick you on her tests (4 of them plus the final) she lectures what will be on the tests It is Mandatory to get a good grade you must got to lectures. She is to the point and doesn't get off track.

She is a great teacher! She explains things clearly and if you don't understand something she will answer the questions you have, she uses lecture slides that she also puts on the website for students to use. The tests are hard but as long as you study the lecture notes then it's not too bad.

She gives you lecture notes and doesnt require you get the book. I only opened my book to quiz myself on chapters just for fun. She NEVER gives questions on the tests about anything from the book. Everything is strictly from her notes and nothing more. It is a pretty hard class, lots on information, but if you study alot you will be just fine

This class was not worth taking at all. It was so unclear. I was lost the whole time. Ya she does give lecture notes but even those didnt make any sense. I am the type that is a hands on learner. So if you are the same way I would difinately steer clear of her. I didnt learn one thing from her. She speaks way too fast and just does not make any sen

Melissa is a good teacher. she is strait forward, doesn't try to trick you on the test. either you know it or you don't. download notes and bring to class. hardly used book at all. doesn't offer make up tests or extra credit. attendance is mandatory. can miss 3 and still get full points. I would recommend this professor.

Teaches straight from her lecture notes. Does not use text book. Her tests are straight from her notes. She goes a little fast sometimes but if you have questions you can ask after class. Study the lecture notes a lot and you can receive a high score on tests. Highly recommend

She was the best. I was for sure I was getting a B- but ended up with a B+. I would say she notices when you are there and when you are not. She is above and beyond fair in grading. Her tests can be tough but ad you can see I still received a B+ and I never got above a 76% on her tests. She only tests on her lecture notes. I wish she taught others

Melissa is a great professor. I found the material very hard, but if you study her lecture notes, and STUDY!! you will be just fine. If you are having concerns in class she is willing to talk to you about them, and is extremely helpful.

I have almost 60 credit hours earned, and I can honestly say this was the most boring class I have ever taken. I spoke to many people in the class and did not find one person that was clear on the exact content to study. The first test (there were only 4) was on 7 chapters and the class average was 64%!! I would not recommend.

I thought Professor Tillack, was extremely informative, she has a lot of real life experience with Biology and it shows in her teaching, she has a good understanding of the subject. I also liked how she gave us ways to remember things, and explained things so that it was easily understandable.

I took this class knowing nothing about Biology and I got an A. Her tests are 100% from the lecture notes and she tells you during lecture what you need to focus on. The tests are hard but if you don't miss class and you study you will do well. Don't buy the text book till after the first class. She gives you the option to buy a cheaper book.

Just show up every day, thats all you have to do. All test questions are from lectures, and she has the lectures online for you to read. Tests are tricky but if you know the material it is easy. I ended up with a 97% in the class. I haven't taken a science class in 7 years.

Melissa is a great professor and I would definitely recommend her! She explains concepts very well and makes them easy to understand. Has lecture notes you can print and study from with great visual examples that are very helpful! Don't need a text book because test is from her lectures. She is very fair!

I took Melissa's Marine Bio class. Its hard to beat her. She IS the best! I actually missed two of my mid-terms *(I would not suggest this btw) and she allowed me to retake one and then average the grade with my first mid-term, allowing me to pass the class. Extremely passionate about what she does, and loves to answer questions! Take her class!

I have taken many classes from UVU and SLCC and she is by far the best teacher I have EVER had! She is so organized in her teaching that it helps so much to organize your thoughts for the tests.You have to study but she helps make the material crystal clear. I feel like I truly understand Biol now. She needs to teach other teachers how to teach!

My favorite professor EVER! Melissa is the best, she's funny and smart and always has a story to tell that goes with the lecture. The tests are pretty easy if you study the lecture notes (which are available at your convenience)and you even get to go on a field trip :D. I would recommend her to any one!

I had to take this class a second time, and I have to say, I did much better this time round. She tests in a chronological order, which saved my sanity. She flies over material, but is more than willing to go back and spend time on any material that a student doesn't understand. I would recommend her highly.

She really wants everyone to succeed, she understands that the material can be hard for some (or most) and is willing to help. Her tests are easy if you study the lecture notes. She doesn't try to trick you like some professors do. Plus she gives extra credit for attendance...I would highly recommend her.

Melissa was an alright teacher. I heard she is extremely better than the other bio teachers but she was very hard to comprehend.she went through the material very fast and talked really fast so you didn't have time to take notes. There are just 3 midterms and a final. that is what your grades based on.the lab an attendance is part of your grade too

Melissa is on top of her schedule and lectures. She sometimes arrived late, but she always showed up. She gave a lot of points to try to help you succeed. Her tests were hard if you didn't study, but if you study you will do fine. She is intelligent and just a great teacher! You will adapt to her quick talking! It turns out to be benefitial!

Melissa was a great teacher. Biology 1610 is not an easy course, but I feel like she gave adequate tools to help students succeed. Her lecture notes are very helpful. If you want to do well in the class, you easily can, but it requires studying and reading. I would highly recommend Melissa for this course.

She said that every one needed to be on time to class in order to take the test on test days. I showed up about 20 minutes late to class for the midterm and she was nice enough to let me take a seat and take the test. She is really nice and helpful.

not the easiest subject in the world, but if you listen to her and study the tests are a breeze. She has her entire lectures online so you don't have to write anything, just bring a highlighter! can sometimes go off on tangents but is extremely willing to explain something over and over till you understand it. Great teacher!!

This is the professor to take 1610 from - PERIOD. She is the BEST --EXCELLENT teacher and VERY FAIR GRADER. You CANNOT miss will TILLACK. If you can't get her -- then take it from Mike Seipp he's pretty cool too but Melissa is bit better teacher.

Melissa is the BEST teacher you could take BIOL 1610 from. She is funny and gets you interested in what you are learning. The tests are difficult, but as long as you study for them, you will do good. I took Melissa's Marine Biology class and couldn't have been more pleased. Her command of the subject is impressive, and her ability to relate to students, no matter their background or major, is wonderful. I've been interested in this subject since I was a young boy, but I learned so much from Melissa, Great subject and teacher!

Fantastic teacher! I had her for Biol 1610 and was glad she was the instructor. Very knowledgeable, uses PP and has all of her notes available to use. The tests are difficult but she explains the subject matter so you understand the processes instead of memorizing information by rote. Highly recommend!

Melissa is one of the greatest teachers I have ever had. She knows her stuff and really wants you to learn and understand it. You have to do alot of reading and it is expected from you,she also goes over what is on the tests and covers it all on your lecture notes. She provides lecture notes which is reason enough to take from her. Without those notes the class would have been completely overwhelming due to the amount of info the course has to cover. She's flexible on which edition of the textbook you use which will save you big bucks. Tests were very fair and based on main ideas not obscure facts.

Melissa is socially awkward & not very approachable but she's good at explaining. She knows her stuff. She goes really fast but provides lecture notes which is helpful. Her exams are tricky & poorly worded. She says she's not trying to trick you but I disagree. This is a difficult class but you can still get an good grade if you study lecture notes

ALL LECTURE! She explains but flew through the lectures so i hardly understood. Midterms cover like 8 chapters so it's a lot of information. She tells you to study notes but i would suggest practice quizzes online. Wouldn't recommend her unless you're willing to study a lot!

I HATED this instructor. She talks 200 miles an hour and is constantly flipping through her Power Point making it impossible to take coherent notes. She assigns huge vocabulary lists that cover up to 8 chapters at a time. I don't mind an intense class or even a hard one, but her lecture style makes it exceptionally hard to know what she expects.

3 hard midterms based off lectures that you can print out and study. 3 super easy assignments. 1 final. This class as a subject is hard anyway, she makes it as easy as possible, it's just a lot of material. Test are multiple choice. You still feel lost after lectures, so be prepared to study you butt off.

Nice teacher. I believe she truly wants her students to do well. It's a tough class but that's because Bio is tough. During lecture she tends to stare and the ceiling while talking or at the computer. I never took notes, I just printed off her power points and studied them. I did have to look up every lecture on you-tube, to understand basic stuff

Melissa is a wonderful teacher. She goes through lecture fast because she GIVES YOU THE OPTION TO PRINT THE LECTURE NOTES. If you print the lecture notes, you don't have to write much of anything down, just look for key words. Her class is tough, but if you study the main points from the lecture notes & GO TO CLASS you will do fine. Great teacher!

HER CLASS WAS VERY HARD TO FOLLOW ALONG AND UNDERSTAND WHAT SHE IS TALKING ABOUT AND SHE GOES FAST THROUGH THE SLIDES THAT IF YOU BLINK YOU MIGHT MISS IT, SHE SPEAKS FAST AND ITS HARD TO UNDERSTAND HER, I WOULDNT RECOMMEND THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU CAN LEARN QUICKLY AND ARE OK WITH LEARNING AND STUDYING ON YOUR OWN.

She was fun to listen to at first, but that's because she would stray off topic. She flips through slides quickly and doesn't prepare you well enough for the tests. If you are good at studying a LOT on your own, shes good... if not, try another teacher. This was the first class I haven't gotten an A in a class and was scared that I was going fail.

This class as soooooo hard! Everyday you just listen to her read the powerpoint, talks so fast, and doesn't teach you anything, just reads to you. It's hard to pay attention and learn anything. I had to withdrawl from this class, I knew I was not going to pass it! There isn't really any homework, but you have to be studying REALLY hard to pass!!

Professor Tillack is super awesome! No homework and saved me money on not using any textbooks! She types up class lectures & all you have to do is print, bring to class, and mark as you go along. To pass all you need to do is show up, take notes, ask questions/for help she is ALWAYS willing & STUDY STUDY STUDY! She knows her stuff well!

This class is hard but not impossible. Attend the lectures and have the class notes with you. She has all the notes online and you can print them, you don't have to write during lecture! All of the tests come from her notes. She is very fair.

BEST teacher I have ever had! I love how she uses powerpoints to teach, and has lectures notes online for you to print out to use to follow along during lectures. She is very helpful. There is little to no homework but the tests are weighted heavily. Nearly everything is included in the lecture notes found online (minus the pictures). She goes very fast through the slides and speaks very fast. No extra credit options offered at all. Goes on tangents about certain subjects. Nice teacher, very knowledgeable.

It took me a second to appreciate her teaching style. But if you go to class and put in the work you can get a good grade. The textbook was worthless and gave much more detail than she was looking for. We look three fairly difficult tests and then a final that was much easier than expected. Take this class if you willing to work for your grade.

I was extremely nervous for this course before I took it, but I actually really enjoyed it! I was nervous I wouldn't pass, but she has a good way to help people who don't understand. I LOVE how she gives you the handouts first day of class. If you do your assignments, you'll pass the tests. Memorize those words, and you'll pass :)

I have taken biology from a few teachers (I moved three times the year I took biology in high school). I never felt like I understood what was going on. Melissa makes it clear! She has a knack for explaining things and does her best to give you the tools you need to succeed. My only complaint is that she talks REALLY fast.

She speaks quickly so you have to pay attention during lectures. There is a lot of information to cover in this class, but she knows the info so well and is full of helpful hints. Be prepared to study. Ms. Tillack provides the lecture outlines and study guides which are really helpful tools. I would take BIOL from her again.

I was not sure what to think of Professor Tillack at first. She goes super fast - BUT she definitely wants her students to succeed. She makes things easy to understand, and will answer questions you have. I was dreading taking Bio 1610 - but she made it so much more enjoyable. I would definitely recommend her. Don't miss lectures!

She was a great teacher. You have to go to class if you want to pass, and every class is a lecture. They can be long and she takes every last second of class but it's really easy to follow along if you print out lecture notes. Her tests are very fair, she does NOT try to trick you! It is still a hard subject though, so make sure you study!

Melissa lectures really fast, she stops long enough to take a long drink, and than starts again. She gets off topic easily. She jumps around a lot during power points, and since she won't give you copies it gets very confusing. She won't give you copies of your tests to study, or go back and find the right answers and learn. Lot's of memorization!!

It's a Biology class what do you expect it is all hard. I never opened the book, you don't need the newest one. Just study her lecture notes and you will be fine. We had two big midterms and a final combined with the material for the third midterm, with three long vocab assignments for each test. Extra credit for drawings. Your lab grade will factor into your final lecture grade. Tests count for most your grade and are difficult, but final grades are on a true curve. Class is all lecture. Cool teacher.

Talks extremely fast, going up and down through the power point slides making you dizzy between long drinks. Tells you to ask your question at the end of the lecture. Refuses to give you your exams so you can learn from what you missed. Very confusing class

Would NOT take a class from her again. She lectures too fast, and jumps back and forth with power points making you dizzy. Very hard to follow, expect to read a lot to learn the material yourself. If you ask questions, expect to be told to wait until the end of the lecture, when everyone wants to try to figure out what's up. Run, Run, Run...

Melissa is my absolute favorite prof at SLCC. She is helpful, kind, and will always clarify. You just have to ASK! Her tests are tough, but if you study like she tells you to, you will do just fine. Go to class. Listen. Take notes. Make flashcards. Treat her with respect, she truly deserves it. Hard class does not equal bad teacher.

Melissa is a great teacher. I recommend you print her lecture notes so you can easily follow her lectures. She does stray off topic, but her notes help you keep your head on straight. She also talks really fast. You learn to keep up, eventually.

This was probably the most difficult class I have taken so far during my college career. She tests on so many chapters at once, so there is a lot of memorization that takes place. Her lectures aren't really all that helpful. It was hard to pass this class. I would not recommend if you struggle with biology.

I was dreading taking this class but surprisingly enjoyed it. I didn't open the book after the 2nd week. Make sure to bring her online lecture notes to class to follow along with her lecture's. The tests are hard but you can do well if you study her notes often. She was very fair. I would definitely recommend taking Biology 1610 from Melissa.

Melissa is a sweet lady, but she is a terrible lecturer. She takes a drink of water every 5 sentences, talks really quickly, and sits in her chair referring to the power point the whole class. I transferred out of her class to another teacher at the beginning of the semester. If you are a visual/interactive learner, find a different teacher.

Melissa is the worst teacher i have ever experienced. Her lectures are very hard, and she jumps around more than a teacher should. She takes a drink of water every 5 seconds, is always late to class, and won't answer questions. Never take this class you will regret it, she is a very hard grader and very hard to learn from. I even had a tutor.

Melissa does speak a little fast, though she is a great professor. She is very knowledgable and her lectures are interesting. I liked how she had us define vocabulary terms as assignments; this helped me a lot with understanding the content.

I think Melissa is a very nice and fair teacher. She was pretty clear on what was going to be on the tests. We only had 3 of them the whole semester, they covered A LOT of material and were worth most of your grade. I really liked Melissa and I wish I had more classes that I could take from her!

Melissa was great. Very nice and helpful. Your grade does rely heavily on tests but she is clear about what you should focus on. She does this by helping you to make one page study guides for each chapter. Reading and studying are a must since it is a complex subject. I hope I can take one of my next Biology classes with her.

I created an account just to tell you to turn back while you still can. She is glued to her powerpoint and speed talks while clicking through it. Her busy work assignments are defining a list of 50+ words 4 times in the semester. You pay way too much to receive this type of quality of instruction. Consider a different instructor.

Aweful class, she speed talks while clicking through her powerpoint like the other review says. You cannot understand a word she says because she speed talks way way too much. It's a shame I'm stuck in this class any longer. Consider a different teacher. Can't believe she won the excellence award, doesn't deserve it for this type of instruction.

Here's all you have for the semester: 3 assignments (with about 25 words you just have to define) and 3 tests (the first two aren't comprehensive, the last one is). You flake out on one thing and you're toast. I never went to lecture because you can find all the powerpoints online. I couldn't concentrate anyways, she talked way too fast.

As mentioned, she does talk really fast. However, she does care for your success. All you have to do is ask for help. There are 3 tests throughout the semester and three assignments due before the exams (just vocab. words). And she uses attendance for extra credit. The exams are on 5-7 chapters at a time. Reading isn't really necessary.

This class was a bit difficult for me but that was because I chose to slack on the reading and only studied when it was time for a test. She does a great job teaching and wants her students to succeed. She is a bit quirky but she knows her stuff and taught it well. If you attend class, read the text and study notes, you'll do great!

She definitely cares about her students and wants to help you succeed. Coming from the student who ended the class with a 98% I can tell you a few tips. I never missed class, and that was the best thing I could have done for myself. You need to be there to better understand the material. She is helpful and lets you know "this will be on the test".

Melissa talks super fast, so she takes a minute to get used to. She is very thorough and tries to throw in little jokes to help you keep concepts straight. She does reviews every now and again, which I would strongly suggest going to. Unless you're a biology guru, don't skip class. There's a ton of info in a short amount of time.

Melissa is a great teacher for Marine Biology. The class is held at the actual Loveland Living Planet Aquarium and once you learn about an animal in class, you have a lab to go and look at the actual animal in the aquarium. She knows a lot about the subject and is very passionate about it, you learn a lot and it's a really cool class!

Melissa is a very nice professor. However she lacks the teaching style that I require. During her lectures she just talks to the computer or the ceiling and never makes eye contact with you. You only have three tests and three assignments so it is hard to get a decent grade but she does offer some extra credit which was needed.

Melissa is a great teacher for Biology 1610. The class is not super easy. It is Biology and you are constantly being introduced to new concepts. With that being said, Melissa lets you know exactly what you need to know, and what you will be tested on. If you attend class and do the three main assignments, you will easily pass.

AMAZING! This is not an intro Biology course, just know that you have to put in a couple hours a week and keep up on the material that she gives you and you will be GOLDEN! By far one of my favorite professors i've had in college. Lectures are interesting, engaging, fun, and she never really lost me in all that information this class brings to the table. Melissa is kind and you can tell she genuinely wants students to be successful, but expects you to put in the effort. Would recommend to any student needing 1610.

Really great professor, my friend recommended her and so do I. She's nice, caring, and a great teacher. Come to class and you can print lectures off canvas if missed classes. There are 2 exams, and a presentation. Which is not bad at all, but i did bad on the test. but i showed up to class everyday and did all the assignments, etc.

Only 3 tests that are based exactly off of her lectures and 1 comprehensive final that she writes. She uses powerpoint for her lectures but gives you your lecture notes that you can add too. She doesn't do any trick questions and is very straightforward and a wonderful professor. Grading is clear and works with her students.

Her classes are lectures (she talks REALLY FAST), reading in between classes, and tests. Which I find kind of frustrating. Your final grade is your 3 test scores, 3 assignment scores & your biology lab grade combined. Mostly just testing though, which I am a bad test taker, so I found this difficult. But other proffessors seem to grade the same.

Professor Tillack really sets you up for success. She doesn't rely on the text and gives you access to premade notes that focus on the specific things she wants you to know. She writes her own tests and she makes it clear what she will be testing on. Her lectures are amazing and she gets the information across well.

Melissa is very straight forward. As she lectures she is always saying "I will not ask you this on the test" or "you need to know this for the test." There are 2 midterms, the final, and 3 small assignments, and that is your full grade. She did give extra credit for good attendance. Biology can be hard, but she makes it as easy as she can.

She's an interesting teacher, not the most socially adept, but knows her stuff. Does tend to ramble on about things unrelated to tests, but for the most part lets you know what to expect on them. Fair grading, simple homework. She does cancel class a lot and gives "study days", I didn't like it cuz then she rushes in class to cover all subjects

Melissa was a really great teacher. She definitely knows what she is talking about which helps because she can explain it in different ways if you dont understand. Not much homework which was nice so you can study more. She tells you what is on the tests, which are multiple choice. She does grade attendance.

I have always had such a hard time with science classes. This one was so different. This professor is amazing with teaching her material and is very passionate. Like any other science class you have to work for it. Use the study guides and ask questions. She will tell you what is expected and how to prepare for each test.

Melissa is really passionate about her field, and she's really good at spreading that joy. Tests come directly from the powerpoints/drawings on the board in class; I didn't use the textbook. Group discussions were interesting, and she has a lot of cool experiences to share to enrich the material; came off as more conversational than lecture.

She's very kind and understanding and definitely knows the subject, but will go on tangents. Doesn't force you to participate, but if you don't you might fall asleep because there are so many lectures. If you do all your work on time she's pretty happy, but make sure you study for the tests because they weigh in pretty heavily.

Melissa is awesome. Her lectures were always engaging and it was always very clear what was and was not going to be on exams. Biology isn't easy, but she sure made it seem that way. She has lots of opportunity for extra credit, as well. You would have to TRY to fail this class.

Professor Tillack is the best! Her lectures are very ealy to understand and also fun, shes very organized and in th efirst day of class you know all the dates for all the assingments, also she teaches how to make flash cards and ways to prepare for the tests. I loved the pages with the summary contents that she provides that makes it much easier.

feels like a highschool teacher. three tests for the semester, one homework assignment for each midterm. A pretty easy A. I didn't get the book and I did fine. She provides lecture notes and going off of those is generally enough for the midterms.

I took Melissa a few semesters ago and she is one of the best teachers I've had. It's rare you will find someone who has your back like she does. I've never had a more pro-student prof. She is kind and caring, smart and open-minded. The class can be hard for sure, it's definitely one you need to read the textbook for. But she tests & grades fairly.

Melissa is great at teaching. She helps break down difficult concepts, and she makes it funny so that we remember these concepts well. She talks super fast, so do your best to keep up. She tends to cut people off when they're asking her questions, which can be a bit frustrating, but it's not a big deal given the quality of her teaching.

A really good teacher. I learned so much in her class. She is really caring and wants you to do well. ASK QUESTIONS! I took this class during covid so EVERYTHING was online. I thought the lectures were interesting. Be prepared to spend additional hours outside of class or you will not pass the class. I spent an additional 1-3 hours everyday

She is a great teacher and cares for her students. She answers emails very quickly. She has careful preparation for her lectures, and she will highlight the problem that prone to error in your exams. I recommend that you attend her lectures regularly and study the materials, you will get good results.
