Really a good teacher hopefully she teaches upper level finance courses in future would love to have her again. Only problem was that the midterm was way harder than the compared to her classes of last term. But if you did bad she weights 80% to the final for you amazing! Better study though!

She is EXTREMELY helpful and explains topics really well BUT she doesn't boost marks, ie 69.4(you WONT get a 70), NO bell curves and she does NOT drop the lowest lyryx mark. Finance is already a hard class and if you need that extra boost find a different prof.

Excellent prof; one of the few that genuinely care about their students welfare. Goes out of her way to help you understand the content and provides a lot of additional practice questions and examples. She's also quite funny as well! Very difficult midterm. I thought I was prepared but clearly I wasn't, despite doing all the questions in the homework. Make sure to read the textbook and know your content WELL. She is a great lecturer and very funny. She responds to e-mails fairly quickly as well, and is very fair. She will do her best to make sure you get a good mark.

By far the sweetest, kindest, generous, extremely intelligent, and wickedly funny prof I have had the privilege of having. Truly cares about the success of her students and goes WAY WAY WAY beyond what is asked of her. The tutorial before the final on a weekend, generous office hours, and practically tell you point blank what test material will be.

Fin 401 is a hard and terrifying course, however with a professor like her who will go out of her way to help you, it makes it easy. The absolute best 401 prof who truly wants to see her students succeed. Go to class, Ask questions and visit her office hours if you are still finding the material hard, she will be happy to help. Shes so nice and goes above and beyond when asked a question she gives a fair midterm and final and gives a lot of hints as to whats going to covered on them she even held tutorials with questions that would help prepare you for the final exam. If you put in the work then you will be fine!

I hate finance so much, she is the only teacher I've had which makes it understandable. DO THE LYRYX! Its an extra 20% and saved me from failing. She teaches how to use the calculator which make sit easier/faster. Goes through lots of examples and posts them to go through again. Favourite 'math' teacher by far.

FIN400 is a really tough course but if you go and see her she will give you so much extra help. I would not have passed the course if it wasnt for her extra help. If you can take any class with her, she is probably the best prof. I have had at Ryerson.

Stop right now and do everything you can to get into her class. Take my word for it you won't get another professor like her. Style of teaching was superb and effective, class was always engaged (and packed from other students dropping in), and her tests are not hard it was very fair. Study, do lyryx, do your work, and you'll do great.

Its not an easy course to say the least, but I can guarantee you that the potential to do well in this course will dramatically increase having her as a prof. I cannot stress the importance of going to lectures. She makes things very clear and is always there to help. She has even held tutorials on the weekends prior to the exam to help out and review course material. Very helpful and clear. She is very good at making a bland, difficult course like finance easier to understand. She makes very good notes, posts everything on blackboard, and shows both calculator methods. Sometimes her voice is really soft so you might have a tough time hearing in the back. But her lectures are 100x better than the other finance professors.

As someone who is really bad at finance Melissa saved my semester. She explains the concepts really well and is always there to help students. Her test are extremely hard. So you have to practice. On the bright side she gives you a lot of Material to practice! Do it and show up to class! I would have seriously failed if i had another prof.

She's extremely clear, showing step by step solutions to most of the problems (and solutions are posted after class in case you miss anything). One of the best professors I've ever had. Her exams are exactly the same as what was done in class (there are no surprises). To be successful in the course you need to go to class, she also explains the material very well.

People pay to get in her class. She is a savage and hilarious professor. She loves finance and it shows. Holds final exam tutorial sessions that cover all math concepts on final exam. No tricks with her, she is straight to the point. Follow her class steps to solve questions, that will get you an B+. Most theory questions from in-class examples.

This prof is the reason I passed FIN401. She will pull sample exam questions in her lectures, so make sure you bring lots of paper and a pen to write down how she solves problems. She even came on the weekend before the final to help students with the exam and what to expect. Switch out of any other prof and get her as a prof.

No prof is perfect, but Melissa is the BEST one for FIN401. She explained everything clearly, provided lots of material to study from, and she was very patient when I saw her for help. Her final exam tutorial had several questions very similar to those on the exam. Try your best to get into her class, if you can!

The best FIN401 professor, easy. I did terrible on the midterm, but mostly due to my own reasons whereas I did extremely well on the final as I listened to her lectures and studied exactly what she taught. Most kids will do bad since they just copy down what she writes but fail to understand the content. She's funny, helpful & kinda cute

The best prof you can have for FIN401. Attend the lectures, read the textbook, do her practice examples in her slides and the past midterms and finals she gives and you will do well. Best thing about her lecture slides is that the wording of examples is literally similar to what you find on midterm and exam. She provides bare past midterms to practice from, and like 2 past finals since she isnt the only one who makes them. Practice those, and trust youll be set. But class avg for midterm was 50 and 59 for final so PRACTICE

FIN4O1 is neither a fun nor an easy course, but Melissa prepares the class well for the midterm and final. She goes over tons of ecamples and theory in lectures and is genuinely wants you to do well!

There is a special seat in Heaven reserved for this woman. Fin401 was way easier and less stressful than fin300 and thats all because of her. She doesnt waste your time by teaching filler content that and isnt covered on the exams. She only teaches whats relevant. I dont know what they pay her but whatever it is, it should be more

You will never find a better professor for this class. Super helpful and is very clear in her examples so you can understand the lectures and concepts better. FIN401 isn't a cakewalk by any means but Melissa can help you make it manageable in my opinion. Take her class if possible, worth it.

FIN401 and 300 are probably 2 of the hardest courses at ryerson, but Melissa goes above and beyond to give you every chance to do well. Lectures are detailed, answers questions thoroughly, very patient, and caring. Tells you what to expect on tests. The best finance teacher at ryerson hands down. Cant go wrong with this prof. Melissa by far is the best prof I have had in my undergraduate career. She made a difficult class manageable and easy to understand. If I ever had the chance to take another one of her classes I would enrol in a heartbeat. Truly cares about her students and does above and beyond.

Honestly the best! She uses examples from labs and past exams to teach! Very helpful. FIN401 is not easy, yet she makes it manageable. Her quizzes are sometimes tricky with theory but any calculations questions are straightforward. She gives hints for quizzes and exams. If you have a chance to be in her class, you won't regret it.

This professor was amazing and extremely caring about all the students and ensured that we understood the material. You won't get an easy grade and the content is slightly difficult but she is extremely fair and will help students out as long as they are trying to get the concepts.

Toffanin is a sweet person, and whatever was on the midterms cannot be blamed on her since it was a shared midterm with the other classes. The students who are complaining probably only studied the MyLabs and can't deal with a fair grade. I supplemented my studies with the HW questions and did totally fine, which she has always reminded us to do.

Melissa is a great professor. However, I was not pleased with my final grade. The majority of the students failed both of the exams. She is not blamed for the uncertainty of grades because she was not the only one who wrote the exam. If they were planning to set their students up, they should be open to rounding our grades.

Take a lot of these reviews with a gargantuan grain of salt. She provides a bevy of resources, including previous tests, which if you study with any reasonable thoroughness you'll do great. They also let you have a crib sheet for the tests, which I think makes students overconfident so they skimp on practice problems, when practice is paramount!

Contrary to what other reviews have said, I felt that Professor Toffanin was great. Her lectures were engaging and she was patient with answering questions/clarifications. I think she provides great resources and is a reasonable marker. Had I practiced more questions with the resources she provided, I probably would have gotten an A in this class.

Melissa is a great professor who genuinely cares about her students. Her teaching style is a lot of reading off slides but she provides Excel questions with solutions that are the same questions as her exams. She does not try to trick students, so if you study the excel files and her previous exams that she provides, you will get a good grade.

Dr. Toffanin is one of the best professors you'll ever encounter. Her lectures are very clear and easy to understand. Her exams test the material taught in class and mostly the Excel problems. Above all a very kind and caring professor. I'd take her again but unfortunately, I can't as I'm majoring in accounting.

She cares about students. Teach steps by step. There is group assignment but easy to do individually if you attend her course and follow her steps. She gives clear feedback.

Lectures are recorded and course materials are easily accessible online. She also posts previous exam solutions, which are VERY helpful. There are in-class D2L quizzes that can start at random times, making attendance "mandatory". Honestly, ditch the quizzes and make the classes online-only - this would be an easy 10/10

Overall an amazing prof! She gave a breakdown of how the content of the midterm and final exams would be distributed, making it easier to see what we needed to focus on. Provided resources to help us study such as past exams, and the actual exam questions were similar to what was taught in class! Would recommend!
