A very good professor. Elaborates extremely well on any tough material. If you care about your work as much as she cares about your performance, you'll do fine.

Way to make a freakin- easy core class interesting.

She loves to teach, and you'll learn a lot if you apply yourself. Not as easy as you might expect, but has a fair amount of extra credit opportunities.

very awesome teacher and very helpful. i never had to read the book in her class thats how internesting and through her lectures were in class.. just as long as you took notes. and did the workbook pages... very awesome class.

She is great. Very personable and willing to help. Cares about welfare of students and very sweet! Take this class for a fun and enlightening credit!

At first, I was really scared to take this class. Anything with the word "law" in it seemed scary, however, Dr. H made this class really fun. She teaches you how to read case law so it is not so daunting and the critiques are easy (although there are A LOT of them). In the end, there are no TESTS, just papers. They are thought provoking!

Dr. H is a great professor. She loves the material and makes the class fun. Because she genuinely wants everyone to succeed, her door is always open to students. She's not too bad to work with either ;-)!

I loved this class...We didnt have text books except for a soc reader...it was pretty easy...attendance wasnt mandatory but since there was no text book you really have to go to get a good grade.

She is such a GREAT prof! She is so easy to talk to if you need ANY help! I didnt do well on my first test so she met with me and went over everything and i did fine on everything after that! She is so nice and so helpful! TAKE HER CLASSES!!!

Sociology is somewhat of an interesting subject, but she is very into what she's teaching and makes it more interesting. She's a great teacher who is very open and helpful to her students. Tests are not incredibly difficult if you take notes. I really enjoyed this class.

Good prof. really cares about what she teaches, very open to discussion makes class fun. Gives chances for extra credit, gives study guides also.

She is so nice and very helpful when you have a problem. Be sure to e-mail her if you are absent, otherwise she won't give you credit for work you missed. Other than that, she keeps it interesting and fun. I look forward to her class every time.

I really like this professor. Makes the class very interesting.

Loved Dr. H. She only had you read sections that you were going to be tested over. you could basically just study your notes and do just fine. GREAT teacher, take her if you can. She loves what she does and you can tell!

fun class, fun teacher, and I learned a bit about a subject I've never really cared for. still glad i took the class though.

She is amazing. She's a soccer mom. She'll give you little things to do and turn in for attendance credits and some times little out of class paragraphs that are really easy. Most of the extra credit is given at the beginning of the course--do it. I didn't and I wish I had.

She is quite an interesting teacher and will help you a lot if you come across a problem and send her an email. Fantastic teacher, love her class.

Dr. H. is the kind of professor who is willing to do anything to help you pass the class. Email if your sick and she will excuse you from any activities in class. Ask questions during lecture and if you study your notes you can pass all of the tests. Also, she likes well explained answers so write as much as you can about the questions. shes great!

Holtzman was an awesome teacher. She was easy to understand and interesting. i looked forward to her class every MWF & was never disappointed. pay attention & look over notes before class & you'll get an A!

She was a great teacher. I looked forward to every class. She always had something new and interesting to keep us all interested. Make sure to take notes in class and review them. Do the extra credit, even if you don't have to. The stories in the reader are actually pretty interesting!

Cool teacher. Gives study guides for every quiz and exam. She is hilarious too! She has fun in this class and teaching it. I highly recommend her!

Favorite core class I've taken. Great professor, interesting assignments/discussions/activities. I would've gone to this class more if I didn't have at at 9am... but she doesn't take attendance so it ended up not hurting me.

She is a fantastic professor! She is very fun and easy-going. She gets the class involved and learns your names. She doesn't make you come to class if we're only watching videos or something, she will email them to you and give you the morning off. A very cool professor!

I absolutely love Melissa! She is a great prof.! She makes every class interesting and i enjoy coming to class every time. Gives many attendance grades and as long as you pay attention in class, the tests aren't too bad. I HIGHLY suggest her!

No homework usually except reading, does in-class assignments to take attendance, really easy class and pretty interesting. You use both books a lot.

VERY good teacher! Gives easy extra credit. Quizzes online. Study guides are very helpful. Most classes aren't boring and she knows names of basically everyone. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I want to take more of her classes. Easy to get an A. Do the reading. Attendace isn't mandatory but she gives random assignments to take a attendance grade.

Awesome teacher. Very funny and laid back. Gives very specific and clear study guides and drops lowest quiz score at the end. A lot of extra credit opportunity and random in class assignments for attendance. Those help your grade. Interesting and entertaining class. Fun

Easy to understand the information while she is going over it. Makes things more clear with activities and homework. Extra credit opportunities. Quizzes and tests are worded confusing and don't make sense sometimes. So when you know all the information and what it means that doesn't mean you'll get it on the quiz or test. My only complaint

My favorite teacher so far in college. She is such an easy going teacher. Her class is very easy if you put effort into it. No tests other than the mid-term and final. Your biggest points come from the quizzes. The quizzes are story problems but if you take your time you will do great. LOVED HER!!!!!!

Absolutely loved going to this class every morning! Some of the test questions were a little tricky, but if you show up to class, take notes, do the assigned readings, and extra credit, you should have no problem getting an A!

Holtzman is an awesome professor, goes as far as remembering student's names. She is interactive, and makes class very fun. Take this over any other possible Soc class.

10 (1) page papers. Not easy, but you will learn plenty & does require some decent amount of reading. Great teacher overall!

Holtzman is great! Her exams are a little tough but other than that I loved her. She has random in class assignments, So I would highly recommend going to every class!

Holtzman is WONDERFUL!! I took the class online over the summer and she was so helpful. The lectures weren't too heavy and easy to watch especially considering it was summer. She is great and even gave out her cell so we could text her for help. She is sooo helpful, I'm def taking her classes in the future. A+ recommendation!

I love her so much. She is entertaining and gives you plenty of examples so you get the material. By far my favorite professor an class!

Holtzman keeps you glued in to every lecture! She's funny, nice, and genuinely cares about her students! I'd highly recommend her to anyone, i'd also recommend going to class you get points for class participation (it's fun though) lots of group activities! I truly enjoyed this class!

Super easy class if you show up. Attendance is not technically mandatory, but most days there's an in-class assignment, and you'll miss tons of points if you don't go. She really annoyed me for some reason, but the class was really easy.

She's awesome! Very entertaining and down to earth. I loved this class. I will truly miss it next semester. There is no reason to not get an A in this class. The quizzes and tests are pretty easy. !!Side note!! She tells you when quizzes are the for the first 2 but then she leaves it up to you to know when they are due!!

She has been the best teacher I have ever had. I learned more about research in this 1 hour elective than I did in my research course. She is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. She is also extremely easy to talk to. My dog got hit on day, she excused me from class, and checked up with me over the weekend asking if she could help. Wonderful woman.

Dr. Holtzman is one of the best professors I've taken at Ball State! She's super nice and helpful. Attendance is mandatory because you get points every day, but her lectures are so entertaining I look forward to class every day. Definitely taking more classes with her in the future!

I absolutely LOVED professor Holtzman! She is by far one of the best professors I have ever had so far. She is extremely helpful and very personable. She always answers any questions in class and does a great job at clarifying the material. She is also quick to respond to emails. Great professor! Take her if you want a good sociology grade!

She's incredible! I cannot say enough nice things about her. I switched my minor because I was so inspired by her. Really great class discussions. She offers 25 points extra credit in total throughout the semester. There are a about 6 or 7 homework assignments but they're really easy and she let's you redo the one that you get the lowest grade on.

I really loved having Melissa as a professor. She is super hilarious and can always make the class laugh. I ended up with over a 100% in the class because she offers so many extra credit opportunities, plus her tests and quizzes are super easy if you look over your notes. I would definitely recommend taking her class if you have the chance!

Dr. Holtzman's online theory course set up perfectly. You have to be able to read theory and then apply it to current media or events. The assignments follow a pattern, so if you do well and understand on the first assignment you will do fine. If you struggle, she will give you feedback. She is nice, understanding and I hope to have her again.

Dr. Metzler makes her classes so fun and such an enjoyable experience. She is hilarious and knows what she is talking about. Her class is very easy if you go to class and take notes, which there aren't a ton.

Her classes are always so interesting, and I love taking this class. She inspires her students and I almost want to add a Sociology minor so I can take some more classes with her.

I loved Dr. Holtzman! She made lectures very interesting because she doesn't follow the guidelines of typical college lectures. She often times backed up the learning material with interesting videos and things that supported her lesson plan. The class was a pretty easy A as long as you show up, do your homework, and look over the notes for exams.

This class is intimidating when you first receive the syllabus, however, the A is pretty easy as long as you stick to the assignments and you communicate with her. We had though papers instead of tests which I like. ( I completed the first five consecutive papers and she made the last two exempt). If you plan to go to law school, take this class!

Dr. Holtzman is probably the best professor I have ever had. She is extremely funny and cusses a lot in class but it's usually to get a point across. Homework assignments and quizzes are not hard, you just have to review your notes. Attendance isn't mandatory, but she does some in class assignments for credit. I never dreaded going to her class

Melissa really knew how to make lecture fun. I never dreaded going to her class & she always made us laugh. She learns everyone's name in lecture and makes you feel really cared for, always responding to emails & making sure everyone understands the content. She has some class participation but it's not worth a lot of points, but overall easy class

Holtzman was a fantastic professor. 200 covers the basics of what a sociology major can do for you for after graduation. Very useful and relevant information and she makes the class fun with discussion and easy - yet thoughtful - in class assignments. Very little homework, no tests. A great class with an even greater professor!

Melissa was an amazing professor not only because she was knowledgeable about what she teaches but she makes it fun as well. She always had activities that were enjoyable to do in class and you actually take something away from it. She is also just such a happy and caring person, which made me excited to go to class. I would take her again!

SOC 100 with Dr. Holtzman was very slow paced. She is a good professor and the class is an easy A, however as a non-sociology major, the class was a drag.

Dr. Holtzman is awesome! Her class is really interesting and discussion based. She also lays out the entire semester and due dates in a syllabus she gives you on day one. She has study guides for all the quizzes and tests. She is overall a really good professor.

Holtzman was a fantastic prof! She really knew the ins and outs of Sociology and made class fun! Attendance wasnt "mandatory", but she had random in class assignments that you couldnt make up- so definately always go! She gives study guides to all exams and if you fill them out they are super helpful.

I would definitely recommend Mrs Carr to other students. Mrs Carr cares for her students a lot, she makes sure students understand the material. If youre not going she calls or has meeting conference calls with you. Great Job Mrs Carr!

Super funny and really tries to make class enjoyable and interesting. Not super note heavy but there was homework due everyday we had class but it definitely helped when taking her exams. Really not too hard as long as you go and pay attention.

The class requires lots of participation and feedback, but it is simple and fun to join in! Homework is simple and Dr. H is funny too! Homework is usually Vizi modules, crash course videos, or a read from the reader. So long you go to class and take notes, the class is easy.

AWESOME teacher! She is great and keeps class fun. If you are taking SOC take it with her if you can she is so fun. In my opinion its an easy A. Exam are easy and the quizzes are extra credit.

I loved taking this class with Dr. Holtzman. Her class is very engaging and an easy A in my opinion. All of the quizzes in her class don't count toward the actual grade, instead she averages the grades of all of them and the average are extra credit points. The lectures are interesting and participation matters! I highly recommend her for SOC 100

Professor Holtzman is exactly the professor I needed to start off right out of college. Dont try to kiss her ass, going to class is very well worth the laugh and your time.

Dr. Holtzman is hilarious, I love her lectures and her sense of humor. She makes the class very interesting. But she doesn't accept late work, which it shouldn't be hard to turn in work on time because she doesn't assign that much work for a grade.

Dr. Holtzman is very energetic, kind, passionate, and caring Even though Attendance isn't mandatory, you should go because 1) its interesting and 2) she does not post her powerpoint slides on canvas. Easy A. But make sure you take pictures of completed Vizi Assignments because sometimes it doesn't work sometimes and you can lose points for that.

Dr. Holtzman is a great professor who clearly has a passion for what she does. The class itself is pretty simple if you study even a little bit and watch the vizis/crash course videos. She gives out plenty of extra credit and there are 3 exams during the semester. The last exam is before finals week which was nice. Make sure to attend class too.

Very straightforward, exactly what she lectures in class is what's going to be on quizzes. She's very approachable and available outside of class even to meet one on one for questions.

Especially good for one of my first classes, Dr. Holtzman is an expert at grabbing your attention with funny witty remarks and engaging lectures. I recommend taking her class if youre looking for a straightforward class and a light hearted professor.

Attendance is very important, with a small participation assignment most days. Though, these assignments were enjoyable & thought-provoking. There were quite a few chances for extra credit. Very accommodating and respectful. Encouraged class discussion and fostered new perspectives and varied views. Overall one of the best professors I've ever had.

Dr. H is a great professor, very funny and likes to bond with students. This class was not very difficult at all as long as you show up to class and do the in class assignments, outside homework is not assigned too often.

She's a great professor and her classes were very enjoyable. She knows how to crack a joke and get students involved. She makes an effort to remember the names/faces of her students even in her lecture classes. Homework never felt overwhelming and material was easy to digest. She doesn't schedule assignments on Canvas though, so refer to syllabus

Such a great intro class. The layout of assignments can be a bit confusing, but the professor was always respectful and willing to help and communicate with students. Can seem overwhelming, but the assignments are simple and can be done quick. Perfect for an intro into sociology, covers many topics.

Professor Holtzman makes the intro to sociology class enjoyable. The assignments are straightforward, and she's always happy to answer questions. Definitely use unstuck study and the textbook to stay on top of the material.

Her Law class is AMAZING!!! There is a lot of reading, and she doesn't put assignment due dates on Canvas. Participation/attendance is taken for a grade, but engaging with the material and discussion is easy. She is accessible outside of class and advocates for her students. Even though the work is challenging, she makes it manageable.

TAKE SOC 425! Never have I had as much fun taking a class as I did in SOC 425. There is a lot of reading a lot of writing to be done, as she does assign journal entries and short essays, BUT I've never had more fun reading and writing for a class. The discussions we had about the readings were engaging and interesting every single time. TAKE THIS!!

Dr. Holtzman was amazing for SOC 490! Class was once a week, most of the grade came from participation in class every week, there were occasional journals, and 4 worksheets throughout the semester. She is super funny in class, and definitely super knowledgeable about the subject matter!
