Only take Griffis if you like watching youtube videos in class instead of her actually teaching. 80% of class time is spent watching videos, something that can be assigned out of class. Easily the worst professor I've ever had. The class itself is easy and can be interesting but Griffis ruins it.
boring lecture but easy class. lots of extra credit. tests come straight from the online quizzes. quizzes can be taken as many times as needed, she takes your best score. if you show up to class, she gives bonus but it is not mandatory. lectures are not relevant to the test at all. watch a lot of random videos. there is no reason not to make an A.
Lectures were long and boring when they actually happened. Most days were spent watching videos and filling out worksheets about said videos. It's really great, important material, but she doesn't convey it well. I didn't do any reading, and I passed with a B. Take the quizzes and pretend to pay attention during lecture and you should be fine.
If you want an easy A take SOCI with Professor Griffis. She never actually teaches and only ever shows videos, but she posts a study guide with the exact test questions on blackboard before the tests and she gives a lot of different opportunities to do extra credit.
Best class in my whole college experience. If you do the online quizzes (unlimited attempts) and look over the exam reviews she provides, you will get an easy A. She always replies to emails in a timely manner and I feel that she actually cares about her students. Really nice lady. I have a 101% in the class with minimal effort.
She's a super easy teacher. You watch a lot of videos in class, but she does 4 clicker points every class - totaling 100 points at the end of the semester. She does review days in class before exams, and she gives literally every question from the exam. Quizzes can be taken as many times before due date. Easy class overall.
She is a great choice for this class. Lots of videos and exams in her lectures. Uses clickers everyday and counts to the grade. She gives a good amount of extra credit through the book, which was easy. The quizzes are a breeze and she drops one of them. Test were very basic and over most of the review lecture powerpoint. So study those well.
Easiest class I've ever taken. All of her notes and powerpoint's are on her website and her tests are straight off the slides. All you have to do is show up, click in to get attendance credit and study maybe 2 hours for her test and you'll get an A.
AMAZING. She is very passionate in what she does and clearly cares for her students. She gives weekly homework and the tests are easy if you pay attention! Easy A!
This professor is very passionate about Sociology. Attendance counts for extra credit, she also gives thorough reviews before each exam. I definitely recommend her!
No reason not to make an A in this class. Every class has 4 clicker points (max 100) out of 1,000 point class, but you can get 61 extra credit points I believe if you do your homework. I only got 60 clicker points but still made a 97. Go to class, do the homework, you won't need to study for the tests as they are common sense and you'll make an A.
This class is an easy A if you show up. clicker points matter but if you miss there are 20 bonus points from quizzes. The lectures are boring but the tests are straight from the practice exams online
I really liked sociology with Professor Griffis. There is no reason for anyone to do bad in this class. She truly cares and wants her students to do well.
Professor Griffis truly cares about her students and wants you to do well. There is no reason not to get an A in this class. Test are easy, just look at the practice quiz for the chapters for which the test are over and you are set. There is bonus points available so honestly you should finish with over a 100%
Very easy class as long as you study the material using practice tests given on cengage. Attendance is key and will drop your grade if you don't go. Doesn't announce when the quizzes are but they are online and easy. Tend to watch a lot of videos in class that do not relate to the topics
The easiest class I have ever taken. Showed up to class and you'll get an A. Make sure to pay attention on review days.
she's a poor public speaker, but the class is easy as long as you study a few hours before the test and get clicker points.
Lectures are impossible to listen to. Tests are easy, but class is boring. Take this only if necessary.
Super sweet lady. However does clicker points everyday and wont drop missed ones unless you show her an excuse. Tests are easy if you study for them.
Dr. Griffis is a super easy professor. If you go to class you will inevitably pass her course. The attendance is taken everyday so its imperative that you go to class because she takes it as a grade. She also gives several extra credit opportunities throughout the semester.
This class is one of the easiest classes and one of the most boring classes I have taken at the U of A so far. She takes attendance everyday so if you don't go you won't receive an A. However, her tests are extremely easy. Pay attention to the reading quiz questions and you're prepared for the tests.
The MOST boring class I have ever taken. I had to force myself to go only because attendance points are necessary to get an A. Lectures are honestly somewhat unbearable to listen to. She is a nice person but avoid this class at all costs if possible.
She is one of the best sociology professors! She does take attendance with clickers, but offers soooo much extra credit that you could still max out on attendance points. Tests are easy and straight from the review, and no final. Quizzes can be taken unlimited times online and are do the day of the test.
She knows what she is talking about but is not very good at making the things interesting. Goes really slow. She uses clickers so show up to class
Ridiculously easy. Attendance is a big part of the grade and unlimited attempts at quizzes coupled with the multitude of bonus opportunities makes it so that there should be no reason to not get an A. The test questions are taken from the quizzes and are mostly common sense. If you need an easy A, this is it.
I did not take notes and just went to class because she does give attendance points. But her test are literally the practice questions she gives you. If you go to class and just look over the practice questions before the test getting an A is pretty easy
Really easy class. Just show up to get attendance, do the quizzes, and practice the practice quizzes and youll get an A. Dr. Griffis did a good job keeping the class relatively entertaining.
Pretty easy class if you show up to get attendance points. Lectures are pretty boring, but I really liked Griffis! Tests aren't too bad, just study a couple hours before and you'll be fine.
This class is made for you to be successful. Missing a few attendance points won't kill you, but getting most of them will definitely help. Lots of extra credit opportunities. The lectures can be a bit repetitive but the lectures and online practice questions will completely prepare you for any of the tests. Easy A if you have a decent work ethic.
Homework is like two or three quizzes that have to be taken before each test and the answers are almost always on a quizlet somewhere. Her tests are also very easy as long as you half study the quizlets made for the specific tests. She offers extra credit journals but as long as you go to class and do okay on the tests you don't need to do them.
Professor Griffis was excellent! She makes it very clear about what is expected of you, and you will know what to expect each week with assignments/quizzes. She is awesome and I would recommend taking this class!
the sweetest professor i've ever had, class was so interesting every day and i would take her over and over again. easy exams and lots of opportunity for extra credit
Professor Griffis is a very sweet lady. Her class is super easy as long as you pay attention to her lectures and do the work. She cares about her students and is always willing to help. Her tests are decently easy as long as you have a clue. Hardly any classwork. Easy A.
Shes very caring with all of her students! She wants you to pass and makes the content relatable.
This is the easiest class I think I will ever take. Attendance is capped at 50 points, so I was able to stop attending after a few weeks into the semester and studying the night before each exam (still got a 99 average). Easiest class you will probably ever take at the university.
Professor Griffins isnt that great of a teacher in my opinion, but her class is extremely easy. Reading the textbook before taking the exams was all I really had to do to get an A, and the weekly assignments were super easy. However, I feel like I didnt really learn a whole lot of useful information and the homework felt like busy-work.
Griffis is a sweet lady. We had a journal assignment every week, do them. STUDY for tests. They aren't super hard but you definitely need to take notes during lectures and do the quizzes on Cengage to understand the material. The information during class is interesting, you just have to put in some work for an A.
Professor Griffis is such a sweet lady! I never dreaded going to her class and actually thought the lectures were pretty interesting. Not a difficult class if you put in some effort. She's very understanding and her class is easy to follow. Can't go wrong signing up for her class.
Melodie Griffis is the sole reason why I changed my major to Sociology. This woman was incredible. You could tell she knew the material and truly cared about not only what she was teaching, but WHO she was teaching! I never wanted to miss her class. Ever. The coursework is SO manageable. Weekly Journals, Chapter Quizzes (online), and 4 Tests. Easy.
Professor Griffis was amazing. She is a bit slow to cover material in lecture but it is all interesting to learn about. Cengage is the major thing that teaches the materials and each chapter has a quiz. I suggest do many of the practice quizzes because her tests use them as well as stuff she covers in lecture. Overall an amazing class.
takes attendance with clicker app and 2 page journals due every week. you can tell she's really engaged with what she's teaching and loves what she's doing.
Griffis is a great teacher. This class is an easy A. All of her exams are copy pasted questions from quizzes. The only thing is that you have weekly journal entries, but they're easy to write. Griffis is really insight, and she cares a lot about her students. She lets you turn in late work for full credit, and she is very passionate. Take her.
Griffis is by far the best professor on campus. She's truly passionate about her work and wants everyone to succeed. The class is not too hard and there's not an outrageous amount of work. Go to class, pay attention, and you'll be fine.
Professor Griffis is an amazing professor. She really cares about her students and will help you when you need help. That being said, if you want her help, you have to reach out to her. She has great lectures and she really makes the class fun and enjoyable. She is amazing.
Funny during lectures. Tried to get you to interact and learn. She know a lot about what she is talking about.
This was an in person class that I took both in person and online. Overall, it was one of the worst classes I have taken. It was hard to stay focused and interested in the material and it was hard to understand the professor.
Class with Griffis is fantastic. She is a master of her subject material and teaches it effectively and in an entertaining way. Class is variably engaging and you'll get participation points for attendance. You could do most of the coursework at your own pace as soon as the class begins. Highly recommend taking Griffis for entry general sociology.
She wasn't the best instructor. I often found myself bored in her class as she was unable to complete her sentences within her lectures. However, she is a very caring professor. If you had issues with submitting, or weren't able to take an exam within the window, she would give you leeway and was understanding. Exams are quiz questions exactly.
Griffis is a fine choice for sociology. Class is out of 650 points. 50 possible attendance points. Lectures are pretty boring and pretty political, but as long as you answer the clicker question you get credit. Tests, quizzes, journals are very easy.
Everything she goes over in class will help you on the tests, even if it seems random.
Professor Griffis is a good professor, lectures can be boring but you can tell she cares about her students. Tests and quizzes are fairly easy and assignments are not difficult either.
All you need to know is the tests are proctored with camera, the tests have practice quizzes that have most of the questions. Taking the quizzes multiple times will be enough studying for the tests. You can be on zoom every class but there are clicker questions for each class. Her lectures are incredibly boring and off topic most of the time.
Tests are proctored with camera, the tests have practice quizzes that have most of the questions. Taking the quizzes multiple times will be enough studying for the tests. You can be on zoom every class but there are clicker questions for each class. Her lectures are incredibly boring and off topic most of the time, I didn't listen after 1st unit.
love her! if you are taking general sociology at uark, she is the best! not lots of homework, fairly easy exams if you take the time to study, and overall super great. she will help you in any way she can!!!!!
Professor Griffis is such a sweetheart! she is so caring and her class is very interesting. she enjoys interaction with students during lectures and is very easy to talk to. She loves her students and you can tell. Take her class, easy A and you will actually learn something!
Easy class but so incredibly boring. Not required attendance but participation points are given if you "attend". Only takes attendance through online format, so I would just join the attendance for points and skip class and utilize my time rather than spend it listening to her boring lectures. Only few exams (multiple choice) and journals for grade
Professor Griffis is a great teacher! She makes her lectures very interesting and the course load is not a lot. You only have 1 journal (2 page essay) over different topics due at the end of each week and 4 exams. No final. Attendance is "mandatory" but mostly just off of clicker questions and not a high percentage of your grade. Overall very easy
Dr. Griffis is an amazing professor. I really enjoyed her lectures and class in general. Attendance is graded, so make sure you go to class. The exams are relatively easy as long as you understand the lectures. Overall, I would recommend Dr. Griffis and I would definitely take her class again.
SOCI 2013 with Professor Griffis is an easy A if anyone needs to take this class for their gen-ed requirement. There is graded attendance so you will need to come to class but the lectures are generally pretty interesting. Exams and weekly journals are pretty easy so just make sure to do the work and study.
Besides the weekly mini-papers, a great class and teacher. Gives lot of extra credit
Melodie Griffis is such a sweetheart. She is so nice and she has interesting lectures. She makes class so interesting and the class itself is not too difficult as long as you attend the lectures. The exams are easy as long as you study the lecture slides.
She is a good soci professor, the exams are super easy, and she gives really easy questions. The journals can be a bit annoying because they are due each week and are two pages. Other then that there isnt really homework besides the journals and the chapter quizzes.
if you're into social issues and stuff like that, take this class. it can be super interesting but it can also be super boring. griffis makes her TA's do everything for her and she's kinda old so she forgets what she has already taught but i don't blame her. but that being said, it's really easy to pass this class
Dr. Griffis is a good professor who cares about her students. If you show up to class, then you will pass. One thing I would change about this class is making the grading criteria on the journal entries clearer. Other than that, this class was great!
She was a solid professor. She gives some extra credit and is lenient and understanding, but lectures can be a little boring and you will get the urge to skip, but try not to because the lectures are helpful. Overall the class is not hard, she is kind, but it can be long and boring at times.
Super sweet professor and very understanding about personal issues. Will make sure shes not moving fast and takes criticism. She allows for some extra credit but the lectures are helpful and review days before exams are enjoyable. I would definitely take a class with her again.
Professor Griffis is great. Her class is very interesting and attendance is mandatory, so I recommend going. There are about 12 in class writing assignments that are very easy. Be prepared to study, and if you do, you should make an A on the tests. All of the slides are on blackboard, and the weekly quiz practices help a lot.
The lectures were pretty boring to me, but make sure to pay attention to her videos they will be on exams. You will need a clicker for attendance. There are 4 exams with no final. You will have weekly quizzes. There are in-class assignments once a week so make sure to stay to the end. She is very sweet and willing to help you understand material.
Professor Griffis truly cares about what she teaches and it shows. Her lectures were very interesting to listen to and I overall found this class very enjoyable. We watch a lot of videos and sometimes write short paragraphs about the videos or her lectures. She also encourages a lot of self-reflection.
She is a great professor. If you have a low grade she reminds every student to meet with her if needed. There is reading to do every week, quizzes, and tests, but she gives you a lot of practice tests and quizzes that use the same questions. Lectures are not required, but it is best to. She will usually highlight what will be on the test.
Easy class, but it is very lecture heavy and not very interesting
She is a very sweet lady who cares a lot about what she is teaching. There are a couple of opportunities for bonuses so it's not hard to end the class with an A. There are clicker questions, so attendance is mandatory. Take Sociology with her if you can.
She is good professor. She seems a lil bit socially awkward but I can tell she cares about what she is teaching.
She is a very sweet lady who you can tell is very passionate about her work! The class itself consists of easy weekly writing assignments, 4 tests, and clicker questions. There is also no final exam. The exams aren't difficult and most of the questions are from the practice quizzes in the online textbook. An easy A if you attend class.
Professor Griffis is a super fun and caring woman! She loves the subject she teaches and does a very good job of teaching it. The lectures are very entertaining and interesting, and you take your tests at home on a lockdown browser. She gives you attendance points for showing up.
Melodie is a solid professor, just the class material itself is pretty boring. She gives a lot of extra credit and there really isn't a reason you wouldn't finish with an A if you go to class semi-regularly.
Easy A if you go to class. She gives lots of extra credit which is great. I enjoyed the class even though I only took it for a gen ed requirement. She's super sweet and you can tell she cares about what she's teaching.
Professor Griffis is a great teacher. Make sure you show up to class for attendance points, you can literally just sit in class and chill. Important you show up for the jeopardy game to review before every test. Very understanding teacher and easy class to take if you need something to fill your schedule.
Great professor. The class was super easy (I studied for an hour max for each exam and got As). Her lectures are VERY laid back and note-taking is honestly optional. There also isn't a final for the class. Great class to take if you want an easy A for a social science credit!
I took general sociology and it was not bad at all. You have a quiz over the textbook every week but you can use the textbook, and the test were also not hard at all. The lectures are pretty laid back and notes aren't totally necessary to do well in the class
Professor Griffis is an amazing Sociology professor who truly knows what she is talking about. There are 4 proctored exams and an open note quiz every Monday for a certain chapter. She does clicker points in class for attendance points. She is lecture heavy and tends to take a bit longer to cover topics, but overall a great, easy class.
The class is very easy. The reason I got a b was because of attendance; make sure you show up because each class is worth 3 points (100 easy points through the semester). I hardly looked at the textbook and got a b, she does a good job covering all the content in the class in lecture.
Easy class as long as you show up, 4 exams that I passed without having to really study for them. Lectures aren't boring and they cover interesting topics. Bonus points are offered throughout the semester.
She is a silly lady but she cares about this course. There was lots of outside work that had to be done but it was easy. There are only 4 tests over the semester and they are not that hard. She posts all of the lectures online and a clicker is needed for attendance. She gives a good amount of extra credit and tries to make the class fun.
She's a nice lady but the lectures can sometimes get a bit boring. Everyone said take this as an easy A and I found it to be a little more difficult. You're graded off attendance, chapter quizzes, and tests. The tests are long and so are the study guides so just make time to study.
she is a terrible professor. she plays 50 minute youtube videos during her "mandatory" class lecture. you learn nothing from lecture but if you dont go, you lose points. i took this as an "easy" class & it is but only if you study for the test. there are other professors that are better for this credit
Professor Griffiss was great at explaining the slideshows, and she knows a lot about the subjects. A lot of students don't attend class or pay attention, but she gives important information about tests in her lectures. Study the slides and pay attention in lecture, and it's a breeze.
just show up to lectures and it's an easy A. there's more real world application of the topics than historical nonsense which was nice. only homework was a blackboard quiz every few weeks. griffis's lectures were informative and enjoyable.
I loved this class! She made it so enjoyable the way she taught things, I learned things rather than a boring lecture. She would do point solutions for each class but you got 5 free misses which was nice since it was a Monday/Wednesday class. Tests are lockdown but its really just the questions from the quizes and what she talks about in class.
Really easy class. You have to get attendance points with a clicker so you have to go and it makes a difference with your grade. All the tests are online so it's easy. I would def take it again
I LOVE HER!! she's such a sweetheart! Go to class bc she uses clickers, but lets you miss up to 5 days so she is super chill abt attendance. She also gives tons of extra credit. The class itself is super easy and actually interesting. For exams, just go over the practice quizzes, do the review, and skim the textbook and you will be totally fine.
This class was ok but the tests were hard in my opinion. She gave us study guides to fill out but they weren't much help. The class can be interesting at times but Mrs. Griffis is very soft spoken and monotone which can make it hard to stay locked in. She does care a lot about the subject
This class was ok but tests were a little difficult. Attendance matters so go to class. There's 4 tests and no final which is nice but there's 3 post semester quizzes that actually count for a grade. Chapter quizzes are fairly easy and if you review them and do the practice quizzes you should do ok on the tests. Notes in class are optional tbh
You can tell she loves teaching the subject and interacting with the students. You have weekly-ish chapter quizzes and then a few multiple-choice tests throughout the semester. You get a study guide, but it doesn't help much. You get points for attendance and there's some in class only assignments. Overall, it's a good class to take.
She was great, just do your assignments and if something comes up, just let her know.
wouldn't take this class if you're looking for an "easy A" but its still an easy class. take notes and study for 1-2 days before the exam and you'll get an A. she makes lecture fun too. overall i would reccomend this class if you're willing to put in a little effort! great prof
I mean this is the most free class possible. Super easy, test are take at home. One assignment every week or so just 10 questions. A few in class activities but really easy.
The cutest professor I have. She is so endearing, thoughtful and passionate about her lessons. She's very easy to listen to. Online attendance thru point solutions and one assignment every week. She typically leaves the exams open for a while, so not a lot of pressure in this class!
Very sweet professor, wants everyone to succeed, overall easy class. Lectures are easy to understand and have lots of videos. Attendance is capped at 40 points, 2 per lecture, so you can miss some days. Weekly 10 question quizzes, 4 units with 50 question exams, no final. Just pay attention in class and you won't need to study.
I LOVE HER. She is literally so amazing. 3 exams, no final, a couple of quizzes and homework all very easy mostly common sense. Great class to take. Exams were open note, online, no lockdown browser.I took her online class and she is hard to get in touch with sometimes but I would take all my classes with her is I could. Highly recommend this class
Her general sociology classes have about 400+ students, but you can tell she wants her students to succeed & cares for them. In class attendance is important, but you have around 8 days you can miss without any penalties! Her exams are fairly easy, she gives you most of the questions/ answers in the practice tests & when she does in class reviews.
