Took her for SPSS. If you get above a 70% in the class you dont have to take the final. Recommended.
Took her for SPSS. Not very helpful or clear. She speeds through the material and doesn't explain it very well. But class ends a few weeks early and if you have over 70% at the end, there's not final.
She goes through the material sooo fast and doesn't wait for anyone. SPSS is a hard class in the first place!! If you get above a 70% you get credit and the class is only a couple weeks long. THis class is TOO much work for a 1 unit class!!
She's not that hard, she even says she's easier now, but keep all your work after she returns it
Avoid this teacher at all costs. She goes at her own pace and doesn't slow down for the class. More than half the class failed midterm and she says you must get a "c" average to pass. Know assignment yourself for groupwork assignments. Very
she goes way to fast and doesn't slow down. its a lot of work. the first 1/2 of the semest is the worst. take it with someone else if you can. she wont give you help during office hours she actually seemed annyoed. buy optional book and teach yourself!!
1st half of class is hard. failed the midterm but aced the final. do good on all the homework and bug the teacher about helping you. That is the only way she will consider helping. overall she is not concerned about the student
I had a death in the family and missed one more class then I was supposed to, so she refused to help me and failed me. She's pretty heartless - not willing to take any extra steps to help her students.
This class is a joke if you know anything about computers and statistics. I recommend taking a stats course before taking this. Melody doesn't help you unless you ask her. She's not as bad as some of these posts. All you need is a 70% people, come on.
The lady has an attitude problem. The class is passable though. You work with a partner on most of the work, so try to find someone who is good with computers and math.. it helps.
This is a very fast paced class. It is easy to get lost!! There was a lot of group work, then she switched to individual quizzes. The quizzes are really easy. The group work is really hard. I got an A.
Really fast paced, and not very helpful. Still possible to get an A if you keep up with the group work and take time with the quizes.
this class was so annoying! Too much for 1 unit! group work sucks.... really, so brace yourself. Read the book before class it really helps... seriously its what saves you for quizzes and assignments good luck...
group work is your grade. her help only tricks you into thinking she has helped you. one unit for this bs?!?!
This class is frickin' hard and she doesn't make it any easier. She goes way too fast through the lesson. Group work is pretty much your entire grade, so if you get stuck with slackers, like I did...you're pretty much screwed. Not a nice teacher at all.
This class is pointless. conains a lot of work. Material you will never use in your life.
This class was not only pointless, but it also has a horrible teacher. Damn SDSU for allowing someone like her to teach and for making this stupid class a requirement for some majors. Get a clue!
This class is frickin easy. I got an A in the class. Just show up everyday. Take good notes bcuz she lets you use them on the test. Overall class was pointless but easy A if you show up and pay attention. She gives two chances to get extra credit but it's the first 5 people to sign up that get it.I got an A on every test thanks to my notes!
This class is ALOT of work for a 1 unit class. But she is very straight forward on what she expects from students. She does teach fast but if you review the material before the class it helps. Take good notes, go to class, and read the book. If you get to know her, write her emails if you need help, it could help on your final project and grade.
I actually really liked this teacher. She tells you exactly what's expected of you and what's on the tests. You definately DO need to study and do the work or else you will not pass the class, but if you do the work that she assigns, this class is an easy A.
class sucks. a lot of work. class vaguely covers material on the test. sucks that shes hte only teacher, but what can you do. have fun strugglin knowing that this class must be passed with a c or higher.
This class is so easy! We only had to come to class every other week. Tests and quizzes are open book. Just practice the exercises at your own pace in the lab and this course is cake!
Great Fair Professor. If you are having any problems, she is more than willing to work with you. Just show up and make sure you have studied for the quizes. If you need help, don't hesitate to ask. She is great and only wants you to do well.
Oh my god, she is the most horrible teacher i have ever had. The stuff you will never use in your life is teaching in this class. She goes over the chapters so fast and you have test same day.The worst thing she is the only one who teaches this class, and she is always in a bad mood. The final is mandatory and lots of questions.
kinda hard class, but she is pretty helpful and keeps the class at a steady pace so you finish almost a month before finals...just put in an hour a week and the quizzes will come very easy.
take this professor.she has changed her class. in spring 2005 people complained about her giving too much work.Fall 2005, only had quizes, midterm, final; all open book. Totally easy, if you have taken econ 301 or any stat's class.she goes over the matieral in class before the quiz. really short class.
The class was a cake walk. You just have quizzes, a midterm, and a final - doesn't require much stuDYING at all. Personally, I found her witty and if you ask her for help, she'll be glad to accomodate you. She even reviews before the quiz. I'm glad she changed her syllabus. Short class sessions, too!
alot of work for a 1 unit class...but simple easy material. The tests and final are open book, but you better know your stuff and practice the program in the library if you want a decent grade. I think she is funny in her own eclectic way. Not an easy A, or B.
NT AN EASY CLASS. HAVE TO BUY BOOK OR WILL NOT PASS. LOOK AT ALL THE EXAMPLES IN THE BOOK AND FOLLOW STEP BY STEP TO PASS. SHE IS NICE AND HELPFUL THOUGH. GOOD LUCK!
Totally easy class if you listen to the very brief lectures she gives and read the book she wrote... duh! I could be wrong but I think she drinks before teaching class cuz she talks about alcohol alot. Comes off as a **** cuz she pretty much is one but easy class.
Yea, right Dont beleive those previous rates, I am sure she wrote them down, This class is pointless, with the most terrible teacher at SDSU,She has an attitude, dont take it seriously.
one of the easiest class i ever took. she has a nice body and she is very cool and any student that cant pass this class (like the one below) should consider other options, maybe tijuana gum seller.
Get the book and really use it and study it before and during the tests. You will need it! Easy class, and she is helpful. Easy B,C need to work for an A
She is a great teacher. Always willing to help as long as you show up and are interested. Not an easy class, however, it is possible to do well. Get the book and practice the examples. Most important, ask for help if you need it and act interested.
Goes too fast and then puts you down if you can't keep up. Can't understand why she is the only one to teach this class. A teacher should be kind and want their students to learn and understand the info. SDSU needs a replacement. Many complaints have been made already and they keep comin. Have a problem go see the dean and complain.
Speeds through assingments and gets mad if you can't keep up. Does not use whole class time to teach. Every other class is canceled. SDSU definately needs a replacement. Replace Hallett! Replace Hallett! Replace Hallett.
This is basically a self taught course. She will help you if you ask for it. The textbook has easy to follow instructions that show you step by step what to do AND you get to use it on almost all of the tests (including the midterm and final). Come 1 hour before class and do the assignments (which are not collected) for practice and you'll do fine.
Easy class. She puts up practice tests/quizes on blackboard that are very similar to the real tests/quizes. The book basically gives you the answers and all tests and quizes are open book!
This is was a hard class for me I did all the practice exams and got decent grades but the final sucks because its cumulative so read the textbook carefully and practice a lot, she didn't show up to class that much and her office hour help wasn't that helpful.
she is very unhelpful and does not want to help anyone. Do not take her she is rude and mean
She's cool she wrote her own book, just go to the library and do the work on the off weeks and you can ace the course!
This class is easy if you practice the examples before the quizzes. Class meets every other week so it's not too demanding, and the quizzes are open-note as well as the final. If you do the work before class, you will do fine.
Teacher is very uninterested in actually teaching. 12 week class you only actually go 7 times to take tests. Only a few real lectures, you must teach yourself everything out of the couse book. GO to the library and practise before the quizzes and you will do fine. Offers 1 extra credit assignment at end of class.
Class was ok.I could have done better if I studied.I got a C and blame it on myself. She was a great teacher.Office hours work and SO DOES E.CREDIT!! a 68.5% is C...I got a 69.5% HA!! I barely made it and would never NOT study for math again.THE BOOK IS IDENTICAL TO THE QUIZZES AND TESTS! ALL OPEN BOOK!!!! buy book-read it-get at least a B =)
She doesn't teach!!!:(
This class was so easy. Its every other week and the manual tells you how to do everything. Yes she can be mean and boring but its just a 1 unit comp. class. A little effort and understanding of computers its an easy A.
class is easy if U do the reading & put in lots of time in lab.she is extremely rude.if she is having a bad day she will take it out on class. U could tell she hates her job cause she lets the book do all the work. She is usually PMS'ing. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT even if it seems stupid, ten points goes a long way in this class. NEVER miss a class.
hate this class
BAD CLASS<BAD PROFESSOR
SHE DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO TEACH WORSE TEACHER EVER, GOES REALLY FAST AND YOU CANT UNDERSTAND ANYTHING BECAUSE SHE DOSE NOT KNOW HOW TO TEACH!!!
just follow the book and what it says-go 2 class 2 take the tests and pay attention if she says something.its not hard @ all, really. u'll have 2 study by doing the assignments for about 2 hrs a week in between the weeks u actually have to show up. so u should just complete the homework a day or 2 before the next class. i got an A not easy tho..
EASY CLASS. Anyone who says otherwise is too lazy to look at the book which tells you exactly what to do step by step and is looking to get spoon-fed everything (which she does anyways!) She's not a bad teacher at all.
the final is nothing like any of the other tests taken. she has no interst in what she is teaching and often times just runs though material to get to the test at the end of class so she can go do whatever she does. the class is real easy until the final, do the extra credit IT HELPS
RUDE teacher. If she doesn't know you by first name, she ignores you completely. The book is all you need. It could be an online class but the only reason you go to class is to get the password for the exams, otherwise it's pointless to attend. She is quite possibly the rudest prof I've ever had.
Your probably going to need help in this class and trust me she won't help you much. she seems like she hates what she is teaching. on top of that she is hard to look at. unless your male student that kisses up to her for help your pretty much on your own. a there are far too many people that have to repeat this class. find another teacher.
i guess u have just have to memorize the book and study mad hard...if ur not good at math, dont take a full load...she does not help much...tests are timed and crappy...she failed my friend who got a 68.2% passing was a 69%...i got a 69.2% BLESS GOD!!! haha! Good luck!
this class is super easy! she basically helps you step by step with finding the answers! the book is not really recommended but if you know someone taking this course just share it!! you'll need it towards the end of the semester.! i dont even read the book and i catch on with whats being taught during lectures and i even hate math. TAKE HER!!
Easy class, only have class once a week. Attendance is mandatory, and be very careful with your HW, because EVERY POINTS counts. Get the book, is cheap, and much better than lectures. She didn't offer EC like some of the earlier reviews, so I got a B.
She is rude and seems like she hates teaching this class as much as the students hate being in it. Avoid her if possible. Tests are easy; they're just like the hw except timed and closed book. If you can do the HW and remember what you did you'll get a B-A on the final. Class is not fun but only meets once a week.
This is the worst class I have ever taken, and the worst teacher.
Easy course if you read the text. It provides you with step by step instructions on how to solve the problems. Every point counts. no curve. straight up points. She always seems stressed, but helpful if you get her one on one. Easy A if you read the text and follow the instructions! Take her!
This class is boring as hell. but its doable if you do all the homework adn follow directions super carefully. Every single point in this class counts. She's pretty boring adn there's not point to the class but it's an easy pass.
The professor definitely does not enjoy teaching this class nor does she appear to enjoy life. The coursework was straightforward and usually easy to complete. She allows one sheet of notes for the final; however, it is still very very tough. 8+ hours of studying and the notes dropped me from an A to a B after a very low final score.
This class is useless if you're an econ major. You learn how to use one computer program the whole time. The teacher knows this, and shows no interest, in fact she usually comes like 10 minutes late and leaves 10 minutes early. Easy class just read the handbook, follow the step by step instructions, come to class once a week and get your A
Class was very straightforward - no surprises. Professor was clear and helpful. Coursework mildly interesting. Nothing wrong with a 1 unit class for an easy A.
I needed this class for my major and was looking forward to taking it. After a week in the class I realized it was a huge mistake. The teacher is extremely rude and makes comments about students during class (you can hear them if you sit towards the front). If you ask a question in class she rolls her eyes and barely helps. Dont take her!
if your not an athlete don't think you'll recieve any sort of help. she never goes to office hours and even when she gets there(30mins late) she will tell you to help eachother on the work instead of helping you herself
This is by far the worst class at state. I had to take it for my major and unless that is why your talking it, don't. She doesn't explain anything and she is not excited about course material at all. I honestly taught myself 80% of the material and the rest of it I already knew. She will make you fall alseep EVERYDAY! DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
This class is worthless! Can not understand her at all. Super boring! No one really cares about stats! uses SPSS program that everyone hates! Good luck people! I just took it to get stats out of the way for my major. I can honestly say, I didnt learn anything in that class!
I took this class before with another professor and i can honestly say that prof. hallet is the best. the first time i took the course i had no idea what the guy was talking about, but with prof hallet i actually understood the concepts. there are only three exams but the homework is pretty hard.. she is helpful if you go to her office hours and sh
Such an easy class! She's a very chill teacher. My class met once a week and the class was scheduled for 2hrs 40 min but I never stayed over an hour. She uses a textbook from the book store and a course reader you can only buy at kb books.
She taught straight from her course reader. She was clear, but if you asked a question, be prepared to have her roll her eyes at you or make a remark to the people in the front of the class! Do the work, attend class, and its easy. (HW due every class and you have to use SPSS which you can pay for or use for free in the library)
I got a B in this class after failing my first stats class. She is very clear. Her quizzes and hmk come striaght from the book and or course reader word for word. She is willing to explain any questions and is approachable. Do well on the quizzes and you should be ok with the exams. SPSS isn't a must to buy since they have it in the library fr free
Best Stats professor. You can use cheat sheets & class is straight forward. 4 quizes 1 final + weekly hws. Take her once a week, you leave early always. Got an A
She deserves a higher grade on here. She is very nice and actually know what is talking about. Just read her course reader and you'll get an A on everything. Plus you get to use a cheat sheet. Sometimes lectures may seem confusing but that is because people don't read.
If you just follow the course reader then youll do fine in the class, she's really not that helpful at all. But it was an easy class. She made things more confusing than they needed to be, but she's a very nice lady. Tests weren't hard
Pretty easy class but the professor is confusing and isn't very helpful or clear during lectures. The quizzes aren't hard and she lets you use cheat sheets for the tests.
Professor Hallett is a nice person, the class is meh. You must buy her course reader, it's very in depth and much more helpful then she actually is. Put the steps on the cheat sheet that are in the CR and you'll do great. There are HW assignments every class, 4 quizzes and a final.
She is quite dull and gives out a seating chart and likes to treat her students like they're still in high school. The overall class is not too difficult you do get a cheat sheet on her quizzes and tests. After each class she gives out a participation quiz which can lower your grade if you don't take them seriously.
CHEAT SHEETS FOR EVERY TEST! She wasn't a bad teacher , just very boring. I dreaded this class every session. The material is kind of hard and I don't like how she does the participation, quizzes and tests online/on the computer. Overall, if you study, make good cheat sheets, and pay attention you'll do fine
Class is not too bad, just boring. You get cheat sheets for every quiz (more like tests), there are 4 and a cumulative final. She is an eh person, kind of rude sometimes. Do well on the homework assignments and participation and you're fine.
Professor is ok, borderline rude. The explanations she gives for her lectures are very confusing. Better off reading the book and practicing the problems. Attend class, do a bit extra work, have a cheat sheet she lets you have and it should be a solid B.
Professor Hallett was great! Most of my class completely bombed the 2nd test and she gave a retake opportunity! she also gave us A LOT of extra credit opportunities. yes there is lots of homework, however its very helpful for the tests and your grade. I highly suggest this class, it won't be a piece of cake but its definitely doable if you study!
Be sure to get the course reader it is a life saver. She drops the two lowest grades and offers enough homework assignments which helps if you don't do so well on her tests. If you need her help outside of class or her regular office hours, good luck, she avoids it as much as possible.
She does not explain things clearly, and she is an extremely boring lecturer, but the class itself is pretty easy, coming from someone who has always hated math. She gives "lab days" a lot, which is "optional class period to work on hw," and drops 2 lowest hw's and lowest quiz grade. Make sure you get the course reader and read her online ppts.
She isn't clear at all and she is a boring lecturer. Buy the course reader if you want to pass because thats the only way you will. It is a pretty easy class, if you get the course reader. Overall, there is a test for each chapter and homework for each section. I would not recommend taking her if you struggle in mathematics
Was the worst teacher I have ever had :( Was defensive when you asked for help... received no help! Had to get a tutor to pass the class.
GET THE COURSE READER! She's a little sassy, but she helps if you ask. This fall (of 2015), we were not allowed to use cheat sheets on every quiz BUT for our final we were allowed a double sided cheat sheet. It was an easy course for the most part, not a lot of "math math". I recommend this class instead of STAT 119
The material isn't too hard, it's just that professor Hallet isn't that helpful. If you ask for help she won't really help you. Also, there is homework every week. Don't bother asking for any extensions on HW or quizzes, she won't give it to you. Make sure you understand the material and you'll be fine for quizzes & HW. Cheat sheet for final.
Doesn't actually teach the material. Just reads over her slides and expects students to get it right away. Does not seem to put a lot of time into this class. Generally nice person but it seems like she has other things to worry about other than her Soc 201 class.
Lays out clear requirements from the students. You will have to make your own notes from the class. Lecture slides are of little help. Group assignments. Great course content!
Her lectures are based from the textbook so I suggest reading the textbook ahead of time then going to lecture for a clearer understanding. Your grade is based off of 3 exams, 1 group project and a few other assignments, but the assignments vary depending if you have her large lecture or smaller class.
We did labs every week. The final was worth 42% of the grade and that was the only test. She let us use a cheat sheet
everyone seems to be complaining about her, but she really isn't that bad. Class got cancelled half the time but we still had to assignments from home that were due at the time class was normally over. Those are easy because you can work with a friend. so just have a smart friend in the class. you don't need the book, but you need the course reader
Attendance points every class. She is very sassy and doesn't answer questions directly/ is not helpful. Half of the class consists of online labs using SPSS. The course reader helped a lot and she gives you a cheat sheet on the final.
I thought that this class was going to be very easy but some of the assignments we did were difficult. All of the assignments are done online and if your answer is slightly off you wont get any credit. I also didn't think she was very helpful especially during finals. An A is for sure achievable if you put in enough effort.
Every time I emailed her, she would take forever and then answer with not helpful information. Literally reads over the power-points and doesnt explain much. Youre pretty much on your own unless you study with a group.
Daily class work worth points (also her attendance) and a few "labs" outside of class that is just homework. Only need the course reader textbook, we NEVER used the straightforward statistics textbook. You can use a cheat cheat on the final BUT the final is worth 50% of your grade. But all you need on final is basically just the SPSS instructions
She is awful. I took her for Soc201 and there was one test worth 49% of the grade. She takes forever to respond to emails and is not understanding at all even if youre a good student. She overcomplicates concepts and moves really fast in class. She does not care if students succeed. Do not take her class if you can help it.
Not a bad teacher. Don't listen to the other reviews. Just do the work with a friend, read the course reader it's a big help! The final is 50% of the grade but you get a SG/Mockfinal/and a 8x11 cheat sheet. She sometimes gives EC. Just put in the effort trust me, don't copy the work with a friend actually try to understand it and you will do fine
She's really not that bad. If you go to class and make sure you get a study buddy or get in a group you are good. You have to focus and take good notes during class because there is only one test and it's the final worth 50% of your grade. Overall I only had the class once a week and it was really nice. If you're willing to go to class its worth it
She wouldn't cut me some slack and bump my D+ to a C- just so I could pass during the coronavirus pandemic. Overall she's a good professor but I just wish she was a little more understanding.
Prof Hallett is not a bad professor, but she isn't kind. She's a bit rude and will often project her anger onto her students. The class is heavy is SPSS. There was a medium-difficulty assignment due every week. Her video lectures were actually very helpful especially with COVID going on.
I had SOC201 with Hallett and this course was a small class and was project based. We got into groups the first week and the rest of the semester was working on the project with a little bit of homework. The material was not difficult and her lectures and notes were helpful.
She is not very precise in her lectures on what you need to know for the tests. She didn't quite answer questions in a concise way, and frankly kinda rude. Honestly, thought I was alright at math before her class. She uses SPSS and expects you to know it.. without hardly any guidance. Very hard time finding a tutor for this class. Good luck...
Prof Hallett was a very easy stats teacher this semester. Although I struggled in her class in the beginning of the semester, it got easier and I am now able to pass with a great grade. Although she requires SPSS (its free), the problems on the test/hw is exactly the same steps as she shows you during lecture & final is optional this semester!
I took this class online although I was new to Stats it was difficult in the beginning but if you ask her for help she will help. Also, spss is free and confusing at first, but the course reader helps (her own book), which I did buy online it will help with the homework and quizzes. The final was optional and was for extra credit which helps.
Dr. Hallet is not a very approachable person. She would ignore my questions in class and kept her camera off all semester, so we never really saw her. However, she did make the final exam extra credit, so that was a big plus after all the confusion we went through using SPSS. She is also very understanding and is good at replying to emails.
Professor Hallett was a bit disorganized, but overall a good instructor. She requires two different textbooks, one of which she wrote herself which is REALLY helpful when it comes to using SPSS. If you don't want to get the other textbook, AT LEAST get hers. It will save your life. Attendance is not mandatory but I definitely recommend it.
Mainly just learned about how to use the software spss for this class and did not learn about anything sociology related at all, only how to plug in random numbers that we were told to. Pretty easy class if you pay attention. Attendance wasnt mandatory and she recorded and posted lectures. Final was just extra credit and was a lot of points.
Hallet's lectures made difficult stat concepts easy. As long as you watch her lectures and read the book she wrote, you can get an A. Some concepts are harder than others but you can always go to her zoom meetings and ask any questions. Definitely the best class to take for math requirement.
The final was bonus. I put in very little effort into this class and managed to get a B. If you go to class and actually learn how to do the math then you will get an A. Professor seems nice enough.
She makes you buy a text book that SHE WROTE. Not very good at teaching but she is available if you ask for extra help. No tests or final for our class, only canvas quizzes we took at home. Pretty easy, but don't expect to actually retain anything you learn.
The whole course is based off lectures and SPSS. It's impossible to Google anything if you miss the lecture. Lectures were brief and fast. Office hours were an hour before class aka pointless. I went once because I had a question and she was pissed that my hw was incomplete an hour before class (but like how/when else was I supposed to ask her???)
This review is for BA 649. Classes were constantly canceled. Assignments were 60% final was 40%. For a business class we did not discuss one business topic. Also she expects you to be very familiar with the programs even though this is class is an intro to Rstudio and SPSS. If you are in BMACC take a different elective.
This class was tricky and the professor only based grades on homework and a final exam. HW could be completed in groups, and the exam to be completed online. The professor was more than fair and made herself available to support students. The concepts were somewhat difficult, but it was manageable if you took good notes and followed the steps.
VERY aloof and always seems disengaged and focused on something outside of school......nasty temper it would appear if you have questions. Take any course other than this one.......
I failed this class because I did not understand how to use spss. The lecture was terribly boring. However, I do not think that was entirely her fault. You can only make a 3 hour class at 5pm so exciting. I would recommend anybody else.
Hallet's SOC201 can be hit-or-miss, but with the right approach it's manageable. The textbook she wrote is essential for learning SPSS. Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for practice problems and freeing up time to focus on lectures.
