she said she would give negitive grades
Usually pretty dull, but not too hard if you do all the busy work.
Boring but not incredibly hard. Tests okay, use examples to write paper.
boring but ok to take - will learn
OH MY GOD!!! i can't stay awake in this class...almost as bad as Wartham.
She is very boring! The exam is easy!! Tons of work!! 10 page bus. report!
Boring, too many picky rules that can make you fail even if you work hard
Have fun staying awake in her portion of this class...very boring
sexy, nice, great teacher, but is very strict and straight forward, no curves
Something is overwhelmingly suspicious about a woman with 2 last names.
yes, very boring !!!

Lots of work, very detailed grading, and so frakin boring...can't stay awake
Bring a pillow to her part. But she cares, and is clear on what she wants. Will help you outside of class. Want to see you do well.
Very boring, nerdy and Boring. never smiles
BORING!!!! takes forever to give back assignments, but over all easy class
She is a wonderful person. She is a very good teacher albeit boring. But she is very clear on whats expected. She really wants to see you do well. She is so helpful. She will read your paper ten times if you want her to. She is very encouraging. Take her!
she can be boring but is a nice person. shecares about her students and will work with you.Tests are easy review the booklet and notes and you will do fine. Keep up!! isn't that hard of a grader on papers
very helpful; learn a lot in her class; very encouraging
Very unclear about what she grades on..I think she just guesses half the time. Very boring and not very friendly...Hey, it's just a paycheck to her...she doesn't care...avoid if possible
take her and kerr's class, but its rather boring and a lot of tedious work.
Skip class and read the book and do the assignments. Her section of the class is nothing but writing. If you need to sit through those lectures, then you need to find another career field to go in to.
Very good instructor. Well prepared and helpful. There is some work in this class, but I found it very helpful and one of the most practically useful of the courses I've taken.
VERY Boring Lady... sleep in and just read the book... you'll do fine... whatever you do just don't question your homework grades, she's a mean one!!
Class is incredibly boring, but if you do the homeworks and papers, you will make it through.
GO to class and listen then for the tests skim the chapters and go to the books website and do the practice quizes, they are just like the test questions & meet with her and Kerr to check over anything before your turn it in, they give you great pointers
this class is a necessary evil. at least the tests are easy. You have 3 tests, several hw assignments, 3 projects (oral, interview, report)
she's boring; she calls your name to answer questions. by end of semester, everyone doesn't have name tags; she's great prof.Take no attendance option. BUT don't miss class on kerr..he's good. just go week before exams to find out what you need to study
No Comments
She looks mean but actually she is a nice person. Do every assignments before the due date and check with her. She'll advice you how to rewrite your paper and then easily get 'A' for the assignment.
Her class was not as hard as I thought. But you gotta turn in many assignments in the class.
Good teacher. Dr. Kerr was injured and out for a while but she stepped up and outperformed. This is a good class.
This lady sucks worse than the class. Not only do you have a ridiculous amount of work in this class, of which 90% is pointless, but her grading is nothing short of an enigma. She tells you to write creatively and then blasts your paper for not being what she wanted!??! HOOP JUMPING 3160-DO NOT TAKE
She is very boring. She knows however what she is talking about. Her tests are HARD!!! Even if you study you'll get at most a high B. It is ok though because her partner Dr. Kerr's tests are fair. You can make A's on his to redeem the ones you didn't get on hers. She also doesn't explain much.
Very easy class! Her portion of the class is boring, but I found her tests to be easy. The written assignments aren't that bad, but you should start them early. This course should not be required for those who have held a job in the corporate world. Easy A!!
Alot of work... but not a very hard class... don't expect an A though...put in alot of time and effort and you will most likely still only receive a B.
The class is a little redundant. The class is okay. The tests are not fair, but you can make up for it with other assignment. Grading system was very fair, spread out the percentages.
Boring and lots of work. However, it's not that difficult. She was rude to me once, and I didn't enjoy her portion of the class after that point.
I had her and Kerr together. She was definitely less boring. Very nice and helpful and doesn't grade as hard. Make sure you come to her lectures and read the chapters in the book if you want an A or B. I got an A but the class wasn't easy. It's a lot of work and they both take off points for minute things. Very easy B ... tough to get an A.
She is a very nice lady and very helpful. She is very available to her students as well. Her tests are challenging and hard to make A's or B's on! However, you can definitely make up for the poor test grades on assignements such as the business report, resume, cover letter, memo, mock interview, etc.
I thought the class was ok. Tests suck, but the other assignments allows you to make up for tests you didn't do so well on. Overall it was a helpful class.
Not a bad teacher but grades strictly on assignmets. Make sure to go over it slowly to catch ANY mistakes that you might have. The tests were hard but the assignments helped pull my grade up. Dr. Kerr's part of the presentation is what dragged my grade down.
took together with kerr. Material is not that difficult, but grading is harsh for minor mistakes. Tests are also too tricky
The class was extremely helpful and very useful for any career. The grading is harsh but it forces the students to become better communicators. There are a lot of deadlines to meet throughout the semester.
Mrs. Dixon-Brown is one of the nicest professors you will ever have. She is more than willing to talk with and help students. It is hard not to notice how much she wants he students to do well in her class. However, she does actually requires you to do the work and do it correctly. Her class is not for the slacker. You'll succeed if you do the work
The class material is helpful, but the teacher is way to picky when grading, i am an A student (got an A in Econ 3125), managed to get a C in here! Not slacking doesnt help your grades, she will not give you a 100 on anything, has to deduct points somehow
Mrs. Dixon-Brown is great! I was afraid of this class because of what some people said on here, but she is one of the nicest faculty members at UNCC. She wants her students to do well and is more than willing to help. You'll learn the necessities in this class. Take her, you'll be fine! Don't be a slacker and you'll get at least a B.
Nice professor, however, is impossible to make an A. About 20 assignments due over the semester plus 2 major projects. All about perfecting writing and presentation skills. If you have a heavy course load, do not take this class as you will not have the time to deal will all the little details this class requires. It is possible to make a B.
I must say, this course was very demanding! I was truly blessed by God to be able to have made a B, almost an A without the required text book. She is very detailed oriented and I have never received so many handouts in one course. I do feel more confident having taken this class that my professional writing skills have appreciated.
Very nice and helpfull. Lots of assignments. Test can be hard if you have poor grammer skills. My profesional writing has greatly improved.
A great teacher. Very organized and sincerely helpful! The infomation u learn in this class will be useful in your future career. However, if you are late she will mark you absent. This class has alot of assignments, but I think she is the best professor to take it with.
Regardless of how good the content is, you can end up making a C or D based on errors (Whether its grammatical or if she thinks it doesn't sound right). Gives out A's like they come out of her paycheck. Keeps you the whole-time. She's a nice lady, but the class feels like kindergarten. The test questions have multiple answers.
Tries to make useless information harder than it really is. Counted absent if 5 sec late. 50% off if assignment is not turned in at the beg of class. Grading style is absurd in that she takes off 5% for EVERY small mistake on papers, thus making it hard to get at least an 80. Avoid her like the communist party.
not bad. good class for future bus communication. she helps out alot. lots of assignment.
I'm not sure what's so bad about Ms. Dixon-Brown. I thought she was a great teacher and enjoyed her class a lot. Test questions can be tricky, but if you study, you should do fine.
Busy work. Required a lab, which was the vehicle for all of the busy work, plus several assignments--limited benefit. Only real plus is 50 min. classes. Likes to hear herself talk in class, which is not appreciated at 8am! Would consider other professors first.
Way too tough for her own good. This class is really an English class where she shoves it to you. Makes sure that you can't get an A unless you love English (grammer and word usage). Obviously she thinks life is about Grammer, not actual content. She worked at DuPont so of course she knows everything. What a joke.
Not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Exams come straight from the book & grammar is a review from elem. school. Assignments are time consuming but apply to the business world: memos, resumes, cover letters, pres. & interview. Labs help a lot & if you ask for help you'll do just fine. Let your TA look at your work be4 u turn it in, & easy A.
One of the nicer professors I've had. Fairly easy class. Read the textbook though. Written assignments count a lot for the grade. You may actually get something useful from the course: resumes, writing good reports, etc.
I enjoyed her class. She teaches class like she is a manager and you are her employees. Show up to work on time, turn in assignments when they are due. It's that simple. Do the reading, ask questions and you will do fine. Even no english first students did well in her class because they asked questions and listened.
I think its a pretty worthless class. I learned nothing from it. I got 89 in a class and I didn't even try. She is very anal about grammar (-5 points for single mistake). On presentations, she looks for correct spelling on the powerpoint slides. Its a hardcore english class where correct spelling and grammar is everything... Take kutzman
This lady is crazy. She is very anal, takes attendance, gives pop quizzes, and grades on a 7 point scale instead of the UNIVERSITY'S 10 point scale. She thinks she knows everything and works at DuPont since that's all she talks about. Assigns way too much stuff and thinks her class is the only class you're taking! DO NOT TAKE.
i made a's and b's on everyone of my assignments and had pretty good attendance but the days i missed were popquiz days so i ended up with a 75 in the class and since she grades on a 7point scale i got a d and am stuck taking it over again. i wouldnt take her. also she isnt the one who grades your stuff so there can be some wierd stuff goin on too
BEWARE. Hard work won't save you unless you "get it" right away. Her instruction/direction on team project totally confusing. She is happy to meet with you/email you BUT this did not help at all. This is first time EVER I've had to drop a class. Takes off so many points on project it's possible to score below zero. Save yourselves the agony.
very very boring, likes to hear herself talk. repeats herself numerous times, makes you feel like you are in kindergarten. Beware of attendance policy, you have to click in at 8:00:01. grades on a 7 point scale, which is insane since the university uses a 10 point scale. avoid her at all costs.
She grades on a 7 point Scale. If you want a challenge take her. It's a lot of work, but well worth it. She does talk a lot and takes attendance. If you are late you are counted absent. Taking her class is the best decision I could have made as a business student. I learned alot. Others hate her but she is good fit if you want a challenge
Ms. Dixon-Brown is a hard teacher, she's on a 7 point scale and takes attendence every day. However, she will help you if you ask for it, she reviewed all of my assignments before they were due and gave very good feedback, leading me to hav an A for the semester. Be ready to work, but if you're willing to do the work, it's an easy A.
This is a difficult class, but if you try hard, write drafts, and READ the chapters you will succeed. She is very helpful but her policies are her policies...so read the syllabus. If you don't like her late assignment policy or grading scale, don't waste your time. You will learn a lot if you try. She is extremely helpful, but you EARN your grade.
7 point grading scale. Pop Quizzez, The matrial isnt difficult but she has very high standards so you have to produce the best work you can. The quizzes are random and are almost identical to the questions at the end of the chapter. Tests are long but straightforward. READ the book and you'll be fine.
Great Teacher. Very Helpful. 7 point scale is rough, but rubricks are given for all assignments so you know her expectations. I'd definitely recommend!
Challenging class but overall a great professor. Very helpful and her tests are fair. You need to read the textbook, pay attention during lectures, and do the practice quizzes. Make sure you take advantage of her extra credit assignments.
Excellent lecturer. Clearly states objectives upfront. The grading is on a seven point scale which is fine but the group project is worth 40 percent of your grade. This is the part that will hurt you and really isn't fair if you are a hard working student. This lowered my grade from an A to a B. A very high B 92 but she makes no considerations.

The class isn't for a slacker, considering there are multiple quizzes and random attendance taken. She is a nice teacher, but expects so much from you. You can work very hard throughout the semester and easily make a C. The course is on a 7 POINT SCALE. Virtually impossible to make an A. Tons of assignments, but get the lab with Nick if possible!
This is not an easy teacher, but if you actually came to college to learn, this is the professor for you! Everything she teaches is invaluable and applicable to real life business situations and correspondence. I loved this class and the professor...I feel like this class really prepared me for success!
Horrible professor! Worst experience I have had in college. Firstly: 7-point grading scale. If you get less than a 79, you have to retake the class. You CAN NOT get an A no matter how hard you work. Very unhelpful and very non-understanding of students needs. Should be an easy class, she makes it wicked hard. Does not post her powerpoints.
She grades on a 7 pt scale! She is very passionate about lecture and nice; however, she is very hard for what should be an easy A. She does a lot of assignments and thinks we do not have other classes. Take your lab with Anne(her TA) She is AWESOME!
As others stated, this is a hard class, however MDB is a great professor willing to help...you just have to ask. Attendance is mandatory, so you better show up and do the readings to prepare for pop quizzes.
HARD CLASS!! I got a 91.9 (B)!! She would not round to a 92 for me to get an A!!! This class is harder than it needs to be. She is very nice and helpful. Only 2 exams (not online) & quizzes online. Don't get points for things you do in lab. Bonus is offered. I would recommend another class her grading scale is ridiculous!!
Her class is not that hard if you do what she tells you to do and study for the 2 exams. 19 online quizzes worth 2 test grades which follow the book and simple assignments that are easy to make 95+ on. The exams are the hardest so study for those and you should easily make an A.
This class wasn't bad. She is very picky about spelling and grammar. She takes off 10 or 20 points for one mistake, even if you miss a comma. Besides that, come to class every day and an A is not hard!
I made an A in this class, but I don't know how. I've never been as stressed by a class as this one. Every mistake in tone/spelling/grammar/organization would get you 2-5 points off. You had to be early/on-time, but class always ended late. Get to class early if you want to know what's going on for the next 1-2 weeks. Avoid her if you can.
Dixon-Brown or DB as we call her gives out a lot of group assignments. Her class is by no means easy but it will definitely help you in the long run. Her projects require community involvement and her quizzes are sporadic. Be ready to work hard and step out of your comfort zone.
This teacher is the worst one I've had in the Comm Department so far. Her practice tests online are super easy and then when you get the in class quiz, they are much harder. This course is only two credits and she makes it way harder than it should be. Impossible to get an A.
Sweet lady! Easy online course, quizes every week and either a journal or forum post every other week. Yes you have work to do, and there's a time consuming final essay, but I enjoyed it.
Professor Dixon is a great teacher, but she is a tough grader. She grades on a 7 pt. scale, so she expects a lot from you. Don't procrastinate on anything. Seriously. Your grades will reflect it, and don't be late to class. If you put forth the effort and do the work, you'll learn a lot. Earning an A isn't too difficult.
Melody put in the effort for our online class. There are weekly quizzes with either a journal or a forum post. She grades everything within a week and also adds feedback. She is positive and makes the class enjoyable. I have never taken an online course I've liked but she changed that.
She is a great individual and person but has questionable teaching tactics in my eyes. 7pt scale, tough grader with no explanation when things are wrong (makes it hard to know where to improve) some goals of this class seemed unrealistic and a waste of time. Other than that is was fun. She is the only BCOMM teacher that does a group project.
I was a little apprehensive taking an online "communications" class, but I am so glad I did. She kept chapters short and simple and quizzes were straightforward. Definitely recommend!
This class was awesome! She sent our weekly assignments in an email every Saturday morning which included: reading one chapter, an online lecture for that chapter, a quiz, and a forum post. Took an hour and a half each week tops! As long as you do the forum post and respond to someone, you'll get a 100.
READ THE CHAPTERS! her lectures are heavy from the book. She is big on punctuality, so show up on time and be ready when the class starts. if you show up after attendance, you are absent. The exams were a bit of a struggle, as there is a ton of info covered. She gives plenty of extra credit. the speeches are given with loads of time to prep
She's a good professor, but definitely don't take her if you're just looking for an easy A. She definitely makes you work for it. The tests aren't easy and the projects require a good amount of effort.
Extremely tough grader. When doing essays be aware of the rubric and follow directions carefully. No exams were taken but there were 3 presentations that count as big as an exam would. She is a very nice lady who cares for her students.
I was a little skeptical to take an online communications course, but I was pleasantly surprised. Every week there is a chapter reading and quiz on pearson revel, and either a journal prompt or a discussion board to respond to. There are also several extra credit opportunities. As long as you read the chapters and do the work, you'll do fine.
Good: Extra credit offered, inspirational, great feedback, great learning opportunity about the stock market and presentations, kind, helpful Bad: writing intensive, must read to score high on hw or it may be the dif between an A & B. Don't miss any assignments.
Professor is nice and understanding. Expect a pretty full (but bearable) work load, but she gives great feedback and makes the class fairly interesting.
Dr. Brown does a great job with online classes. Interpersonal comm was oddly interesting and the topics in the journal & discussion boards are awesome. Very reasonable. If you forget 1 assignment you can drop a whole letter grade, don't learn that the hard way. No late work accepted. 1 quiz and 1 journal or discussion forum a week due on Fridays.
Mrs Dixon-Brown was a great professor! I took her online Organizational Politics class. Her online lectures were clear, concise, and helpful. I also thought the topics were interesting and applicable to the working world. She gives clear instructions on what she is looking for and expects. With that said, you get the grade you work for so.
Even though it was online I enjoyed this class a lot! I feel like I actually learned things & she is super sweet & her online lectures were very helpful. She provides helpful feedback and the rubrics are super clear, this was one of the easiest A's I've ever gotten! Def take this class if you can, I adore her!!!
I really enjoyed taking Interpersonal Communications online. She is super sweet and caring, and her online lectures are very professional and well put together. The class consisted of quizzes each module and either a discussion post or journal entry and a final. She provides great feedback on all of your assignments so take her if you can!
omg, this class is a lot of work. We had to do Pearson activities (Short Quizzes, Chapter Quiz, etc.) and then either write a 2-page single-spaced journal or a discussion post. We also have a final exam and a 5 page single-spaced paper. I know it's a writing-intensive course, but it was just too much. She gives good feedback, though.
Ms. Dixon-Brown is an amazing professor. She is super kind, and probably one of the best professors I have had. Make sure to participate and do your weekly assignments. Even if this class does not pertain to your major, it's interesting for our day to day life!
Great hands on professor. Class is fairly difficult, especially with the group projects, but you can tell she cares about her students. She's always there for you if reach out to her, and she'll always be glad to help. However, she will make you work for your grade.
I had Professor Dixon-Brown for COMM3160 online and asynchronous. The class was project heavy, but the projects were pretty easy. No exams, just a final paper that you work on throughout the semester. It's an easy A if you don't miss any deadlines. She does offer a lot of extra credit if you attend certain lectures or Niblock events.
Professor Dixon is wonderful. I took her Interpersonal Communication course online and I've never felt so connected through an online course! She puts so much work into her course content and relates her real-life experiences to the course material. The assignments are fun because you basically get to write about yourself. Would highly recommend!
Super sweet professor. She gives two page journal entries every other week but not bad at all. Love her!
She wants you to succeed but I had a hard time with her strict grading. You only get one chance to complete assignments and is very passionate about grammar. One small mishap and your grade will reflect that. You can attend niblock events for extra credit but she didn't let us know halfway into the semester. 2-3 weekly online assignments to do.
Okay: I took this class for business communication and Professor Dixion is a tough grader but she does leave feedback on assignment submissions. She wants her students to succeed and do well but sometimes her grading says otherwise. She is nice but fairly strict and sticks to a rubric. Use grammarly to avoid getting lots of points taken off.
I don't agree with the reviews about her grading at all. I think she is one of the fairest graders I've had here. She actually gives helpful feedback on assignments, like literally full paragraphs on what you can fix for the next. I love this woman idk what yall are talking about
I'm currently still taking her. Beware, she's an extremely tough grader and assigns so much homework. She grades strictly by Turnitin. If your paper even has a quoted source and turnitin picks it up, she takes off that much percent off of the ENTIRE GRADE! So let's say turnitin says 34% sources. You'll get a 66% for that grade! Avoid if you can!!!!
tough but good
Professor Brown is a very clear cut and respected professor in my eyes. She is a very fair grader which is why some people say she can be tough. However I don't think it's unfair, take this class if you are willing to work to improve on your communication skills. It can be a grind but I would take it again after what I have learned in her class.
she is hard to please and extremely specific. grades with turnitin so almost impossible not to get flagged. don't take if you can
She is a good professor but we couldnt see what we got wrong on the homework assignments so I kept getting the same things wrong because I never got to see what it was supposed to be. The weekly discussions are in groups of 5 yet we had to respond to 5 different posts so if someone didnt post we had to keep responding random things to the same post
Her comm studies foundations class is pretty easy. Everything is due on Friday, so just do your work by Friday and you are good for the week. About 1-2 assignments a week, and they are pretty easy. She is a bit of a tough grader, but you can still walk out with at least a B if you do your work. However, stuff is due at 11pm, not 11:59.
Great professor and assignments are really easy. She cares about your success and email her if you have any questions.
Professor Dixon-Brown's class is project-heavy but manageable. She provides detailed feedback and is very helpful if you reach out. Though the workload can be challenging, using Unstuck study and staying on top of deadlines can lead to a solid grade.
