neat lady! loved the class. made things clear and straight forward.

Melodye is great and always there for her students.
I loved taking the class from her. She is very interesting and sweet. She is very clear and prepares you for tests and will focus on where ever there is confusion. She is great to talk to and you will learn more than you think.
This teacher didn't help me at all, most of the class dropped out because she didn't prepare us well enough for the exams. I failed this class, and it was the first time I got a grade lower than a B in my life.
First, let me start off by saying I took a hybrid online class with Melodye - a big mistake in general. Given those constraints we hardly ever had lecture, which I understand. However, in the few instances we did have lecture, her lecture style was extremely poor.
she subbed in my chem class for a day and i couldn't stand it... just an FYI!! worst lecture style ever!
Not the greatest class. She has no personalty, the class falls a sleep.
Very Fair. Labs are easy points. Very clear about what is on tests. No Surprises. Not real hard. Skim book, do some sample problems. Do handout problems that are not duplicates of book problems you attempted. She's really nice, just don't be late for labs.
clear and student's needs oriented
teacher is very knowledgeable of material and know how to relay information to the students in a way that they will remember and understand. Very student learning based class structure, if u take the class u will retain biology information garanteed
I started to take nutrition form her online but had to drop the class because she never answered my emails concerning very important questions I had about quiz due dates. Not very helpfull at all.
I have taken several college online classes. This class was nerve racking. Chapters sometimes 3 to read a week and somtimes 3 quizes (40-60 questions each quiz) When tests came around she would not tell us what was bs and what was important(I asked her) Very slow in returning emails.
There was way too much material to learn without lecture. When I asked what was going to be on the final she gave me a definitive answer but the final had less than 10% of the material she told me it was going to cover. I'd been better off reviewing my old tests. SHe is VERY sLOW TO answer emails. Also, she does not update VISTA consistently.
has a personality that can make a person on zoloft depressed.
The worst instructor I have ever had! Gave 20-min. lecture in a three-hour class and handed out worksheets for students to figure out on their own. Many times the worksheet were wrong and website barely updated. Grew agitated when students needed help or clarification. Even walked out of class in one instance. Extremely lazy and unprofessional.
She is a very nice person but her lectures don't make sense to anyone in the classroom. We as a class took this to the science department and they told us it was teaching technique. Her tests were easy but you had to learn the material on your own or stand at her desk and constantly ask her questions.
Her teaching plan is well prepared, does what is required of an instructor. Teaching style does not promote or inspire class interaction. If you are fly paper, her lessons will stick, if not, have no expection of assistance. Teaching appears to be a necessity rather than desire. Obviously she would rather be do something different than teaching.
Great teacher. I don't know what you all are talking about. Studying biology takes a lot of discipline. Ask Gold the right questions she answers well. I met with her and a classmate at Starbucks for a nice study session. Patient and uinderstanding. The multiple quizzes are helpful, especially online b/c there are practice ones for the exams.

This teacher will tell you what to study for then test you on something diff. She doesnt seem to know her stuff. She seems easy but everything ways on the tests
Most people said she is not helpful but not for me. she was helpful and she even meet me at the starbucks and spare her time. Test is not easy, you got to cover each chapter by yourself. if you cover her lab question and online quiz then you will get a good grade.
There is no real instruction unless you ask,and that might not even help.when I asked if I was doing something right, she said yes, when I got the grade back on my lab, she marked that question wrong, even when she told me to my face it was right. =P
Not a very fun class, but very informitive. The lectures are a little boring but as long as you take good notes from them and the book, the class is pretty easy. Labs are a little hard to get full credit on, but missing a few points from each of them is not going to hurt your grade much.
online class, this class was not easy.......
not very good about helping you out, basically tells you to drop the class if you dont do well on the midterm, says you'll prob do the same on the final.
Hybrid Course - Melodye is a very nice person, but her lectures are short and not very helpful. However getting a good grade in this class isn't hard, just study the quizzes for the tests and read the chapters. Go to class everyday for lab points and you'll be fine.
Online class, not helpful or available. Pretty lame- wouldn't recommend it!
This was my first online course...actually my first course in a long time. I found Melodye to be a very responsive, very helpful teacher. I would take a class from her again.

I took her human biology online. She was super nice(maybe a little ditzy?) and organized. Not too much homework. Tests are pretty particular. You have to read the book which gets kinda boring. You also have to read her questions carefully.
she is not good at all. TRUST. do not take for any cost, you will hate her class because she sucks at teaching. DEFINATELY. mark my words.
Hybrid bio- she didn't lecture at all. You have to learn EVERYTHING on your own. You only go for 1 or 2 hours to do the lab. Completley pointless. She is boring & seems rather uneducated in the subjest. DON'T TAKE!
She's extremely difficult to get a hold of, and get responses from. Her expectations are unclear. I'm a careful, attentive student but still got stung. Be sure to log on (online course) every day. If you miss a day, you may miss an important notice (which doesn't stay posted for you to reference later!).
I loved Melody. She was a great teacher, very precise and to the point. She offered extra credit and even offered for those who did poor on the midterm to replace their grade if they did well on the final. If you read the questions and actually care about what you are learning she makes it very easy to do great in the class.
Yes, you will definitely pass if you're a good student. That's because all of the quiz/test answers are available in her "study guides". There is very little discussion or lecturing. I didn't get the impression she wanted to do much more than facilitate the test taking. It frequently took a day or two to get responses to questions.
she spends half of class time trying to get her computer to work and only leaves 20 minutes of lecture time. therefore her lectures are rushed and unclear. also if students ask offtopic questions she answers them and takes 15 min to do so! you have to depend a lot on your textbook if you want to learn anything. I haven't learned anything from her
The class I took was only once a week & mostly online. The online quizzes are EASY! cause you get 2 chances to take them & you should be able to get 100% on the 2nd time... Mrs. Gold is willing to meet with students in order to prep for the big tests. Just meet at starbucks and buy her a cup of coffee! :) I have the books if anyone's interested!
(I took the hybrid class) The online work is easy, the labs are easy too. PLEASE BEWARE WITH THE HYBRID CLASS THERE IS NO LECTURE TIME SO YOU MUST READ THE BOOK AND STUDY! THE EXAM'S AND FINAL MAKE UP 55% OF THE GRADE SO DONT FAIL THEM! I would NOT recommend taking this class if you need lectures to learn or if you are brand new to biology.
unreasonable after she made a confusing comment on the class schedule to correct a resulting problem
The most useless professor I've ever had. Though nice, she is impossible to like as a professor. Exams are difficult and unfair scoring system. Don't know what to expect on exams. Class was extremely dull too. Not tech. savvy either. Drew pictures the whole time to teach class. USELESS.
She's real sweet, and you wish you could like her, but she rambles on and doesn't quite connect the dots. She doesn't express clearly what she expects you to know to pass her tests. There are multiple answers for a lot of her quiz questions, but only one correct. She would make a better middle or high school teacher. I wouldnt take her class again.
Hybrid class - Very nice, and explains well when you ask her about the subject, but so scattered and you never really knew what she wanted you to be learning. Tests were always 1/2 what she taught and half !surprise! it was in the (very dense) book.
She's super nice but her exams are ridiculously hard. It's difficult to know what exactly she wants you to focus on so it's best to learn EVERYTHING. I mean everything, every system, every cycle, every vocab word. You never know what she's going to test you on. I prefer bulleted lists for lectures but she's a fan of pictures.
Labs were easy, but exams that make up 75% of your grade were nearly impossible to prepare for. They covered a lot and if you don't know EVERYTHING from each chapter you're not going to do well. No support from professor, poor "lectures", and slow feedback.
Online class. Useless. The grade earned in this class has nothing to do with how intelligent one is, but rather, how well one can memorize a textbook.
She is LAZY, NOT prepared for classes, UNclear, doesnt know subject matter well.Tests are 85% of grade. Each test is different & unpredictable. Lectures& her notes r useless. Didnt lecture on 7 chapters & skipped half of labs. Grading is erratic.Gave wrong answers to students q's in class. If you care about learning bio, TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!
Assignments were not challenging and involved simply regurgitating data produced by the software program that came with the overpriced textbook. Instituted a closed book, closed note exam policy for an online class which was ludicrous and unrealistic. Made a mistake and prepared us for the wrong chapter for the final, had to adjust people's grades.
Really nice person....but somewhat flaky and unorganized...She doesn't necessarily test you on what she says will be on the test...she doesn't do study guides and meetings to understand are a waste of time because half the time that info is not on the test.
Made exams way too hard. Nice but c'mon...we're not biologists. Be reasonable!
We talked about a lot of stuff that was never on the test, and there was a lot of stuff that was on the test that we NEVER talked about. The book teaches you ever thing in this class. I got a good grade but she still made me cry after the first test by being mean about my not understanding a question.
she's a nice teacher, but is really hard to keep up with. i hate being in her class, and would not have taken her if i would've known that she's not a very clear teacher. and her tests are surprising. you never know what will be on there. i do NOT recommend her
Its supposed to be "General" biology. Exams are INSANELY HARD, you will never know what is going to be on it. No study guides. First time ever I have received a grade lower than an A-. Have a C or D+. I Strongly recommended not taking her. Her way of teaching is terrible. She expects us to know EVERYTHING on the given chapters on exam.
Very nice, BUT the amount of time I spent on my notes and studying over the given chapters for an exam was a TOTAL WASTE OF TIME! Over 3/4 of the things you study for will no be on the exam and take my word for that. Very unorganized. Clarification is unclear. If you want to learn Bio I recommend not taking her. Exams are HARD.
Melody was very nice. She was fun to be in class with and explained SOME things adequately. That being said, she was horribly unorganized. Her labs were sometimes completely incomprehensible. She did not go over some things on her exams. For one topic, she mentined it ONCE under a different title than what was on the test. NOT a reccomended prof.
Melody was a really nice person who wanted her students to do well. She was flexible and went over the subjects the students were having trouble with. She was very willing to help and to answer any questions people had.
If you want to get a good grades, this is not for you. she does not help, nor she is clear and will take points from you if you come to the class late. She gives you test guides but will only add fractions of what she gives you,so difference at all. let students leave early so they dont ask questions. my advice look for other instructors.
I took this class even though I was told bad things about this teacher. I took it online and the class was great. She gives you a calendar at the beginning of the quarter that shows all the assignments due. You have a lab on monday quizzes on tuesday (only 5 questions and unlimited attempts) and tests on Wednesday and thats it. Easy A!
Nice teacher, extremely helpful, but a bit unclear and disorganized at times. Overall, it was a fairly easy class. She did reviews before exams, and hinted at things that would be on exams. I didn't use my text book much, as most of the important stuff was mentioned in class, or in her study guides online. Attendance only counted on lab days.
Her lectures are very straight-forward, and I was never tested on any material outside of class lectures and labs. Textbook was never referred to. My greatest praise is that she was patient with answering questions and never made you feel like an idiot, like so many science teachers I've had. Thank you Melody!
I TOOK THIS CLASS ONLINE. IT WASN'T TERRIBLY "HARD." HOWEVER, THERE WAS NOT MUCH INTERACTION WITH THE INSTRUCTOR. GRADING SEEMED TO TAKE FOREVER, AND TESTS WERE A LITTLE HARDER THAN I THOUGHT.
Warning: Do not take this class as hybrid in summer, your low grade, unless you are a savant will blow your mind. Follow her study guides to a T and do not take her advice to not read the book, big mistake. READ THE BOOK. Memorize the whole thing!
Do not take this class as a hybrid and NEVER in summer quarter. Your grade will not make you happy unless you have a photographic memory or are a savant at biology. She tells you not to read the book...dont fall for it, MEMORIZE IT! Follow study guides to the letter as you will never know what you could be tested on. Super nice lady, extreme class.
I took the hybrid summer class and had no problem with it grade-wise. I found Dr. Gold to be a very kind and helpful professor. Yes, I chose to use the textbook even though my class might have been told otherwise, but I really think that study methods vary from person to person. If you allot enough time towards studying, you should be fine.
Loved this class! clear and helpful notes taken everyday assigned chapters to read from the text book every night which you MUST keep up with! (and take notes on) takes the labs for grades, easy grader. Her test are exactly what she teaches and fairly easy if you are prepared. Answers any and all question very patient and nice :)
I'd seen reviews and was discouraged initially but decided to take her class. Glad I did. If you stay on top of the work, see her during office hours for questions, she is very willing to help. This is a college level course and for those going into the biological sciences--not a coaster class. Expect to work hard but learn a lot from her.
Gold was very clear and always willing to work with you if you did not understand. She even scheduled study groups outside of school with students. When given time to review during class (which she made optional to attend) often students didn't show up. So for those who think this class is too hard the problem probably doesn't lie solely with Gold.
Gold is very nice. Her lectures are boring but are necessary to attend if you want to get a good grade. When you ask questions, her answers make you more confused than before you asked. Her exams are on the difficult side but the final is VERY easy (basically all questions from previous exams)
She teaches college level biology. You're expected to go into the class knowing chemistry well. All these bad ratings are from people who go into the class expecting to get an A knowing absolutely nothing beforehand. Dr. Gold is always willing to help, she is crystal clear when explaining tough concepts and is always there for extra help.
a great teacher. She worked with students if some needed more help, the labs we do are interesting and help understand the material better. Her outlines for exams are what you should expect the test to look like, great lady! Would recommend her
This class was my hardest online class this quarter mainly because she seemed uninvolved with the class and unclear sometimes. College level biology class which I did alright in, but I would not recommend this class online. Probably better to just take this on campus.
Melody is very nice and always willing to help. I took the hybrid version of this class which I would recommend only if your willing to spend much of your free time studying, since most of your class time is spent doing labs.
Gold is very nice and she is always willing to help you. But, she only goes over the major parts of each chapter and does not go into deep detail like her tests do. So, you are pretty much required to read the book and study the book in order to do well on her tests.
This class and all of it's busy work was really easy, but the tests on the other hand were not. The exams were done differently then the midterms. When you study, it is a totally different process. I think it was very unhelpful and made it more difficult. But, overall, she is a nice teacher and fair.
Lectures are boring and hard to follow, unclear on explaining things. hand writes all her notes, uninteresting. 4 exams (including final) and repeats a lot of questions on each exam, final is a combination of the 3 exams. Lab was good because she doesn't lecture but didn't seem to connect with lecture topic.
TAKE MELODY'S CLASS!!! She has her PhD and is such a smart woman! Not to mention super sweet! As long as you do your work and study you will do great in her class! SHE KNOWS WHAT SHES TALKING ABOUT TOO!!! I wish she taught every biology class. SHES AMAZING
I did not like the textbook because it was dry, but I did enjoy most of the labs. The online exams were hard because she tested on the most minute piece of material, which made it hard to know what to study. If you take the class online, you will need to go to campus to take the midterm and final. The tests on campus were much easier than online.
She's not as funny as she thinks she is, but she is approachable. If you're willing to work, she is willing to help. If you're putting in effort and not getting it, she will do her best to fix that.
Took her for BIO108 and BIO160, both times she was pretty clear about what was going to be on the tests. The lectures are updated frequently to Canvas. The tests aren't that difficult.I didn't study at all for BIO160 and only for an hour or so right before Bio108 tests and passed with a C+ in both. Do the labs and go to class and the class is easy.
Really good professor, I honestly think she's underrated, she does a great job of giving you the big picture, so you understand how it fits in,& why it is important, then gets to the details. relates the subject well. Good preparation for a&p. Dont skip classlab, points are hard to make up. If you go to class, you dont have to buy book,I got an A.
If you only need one biology class and want an easy A, this's the class for you. If you need this class for BIOL211, you might want to choose another instructor. Dr. Gold is very knowledgable. She make the concept very easy to understand. Her tests are very easy with extra credit. But you would find out you know less than others in BIOL211 class.
I would not recommend this class online. She is unclear about her expectations, doesn't post on canvas often enough, and grading takes forever. Biology is hard enough as it is, but add in an unorganized professor and it gets ten times more difficult. She seems nice enough, but she is definitely not my favorite professor by any means.
Her lectures were boring and she basically taught the class from her projector. (She wrote her own notes) I wish she could've taught the class by using her power points more so students can have a better understanding because power points do help. She's nice, her exams were easy, but I wish her teaching method were different and better.
She is a pretty good teacher but she can be a little disorganized and instructions can be slightly unclear at times. She does show you all the material that can be on the test which is nice and makes sure her lecture covers it in class so if you take good notes and study the things that seem like big key points you can do well.
Pretty good teacher. Keep up with assignment schedule. You don't really need the book, just the online access, and the labs are easy. Exams are entirely from the review questions ONLY! Study those and keep up and you will get an A.
I really enjoyed this class and the professor. She is very relatable, helpful, and clearly enjoys what she does. The assignments are slightly challenging, however she provides assistance when needed and numerous tries on the online homework. The tests are challenging, beginning to study in advance helps.
I really enjoyed Melodye this summer. She really cares about her students. The labs were fun and she also gave great feedback on everything, plus a super fast grader! She tells you exactly what will be on the exam before hand and the daily warm up questions are also helpful. You can tell she really enjoys teaching. The book was not needed.
Melodye is a good professor only because she is extremely helpful. If you are her student you have to sometimes reach out to her for help and she will literally tell you the answer and the reasoning. It is frustrating at times just because it's a science course and she moves so fast. She knows what is best for her students.
Straight forward about exams, will take the time and effort to meet you outside of class if you are confused.
She was a great Bio teacher. 4 exams and they're worth 70% of your grade but the final is ae past 3 exams so you review them you can figure it out and she'll drop you're lowest test grade is C+ or above. Boring lecture but helpful
I had Melodye for Bio 160 and although her lectures were somewhat boring they were super important for tests. Tests are super easy if you listen to lectures and read the sections in the book. Make sure to do the handouts she posts online before the tests all of her test questions come from those handouts!!
Prof. Gold is good at explaining difficult things in easy version. Her lecture is easy to understand and remember. She is funny so you will find the class goes by fast. Expect to do a lot of works. There are 4 big tests, labs, reading assignment and attendance points.
For this class you just had to do labs at home from the lab kit you need to purchase, you had online questions and quizzes to answer from homework readings, and then the 3 exams are in person and she GIVES you the questions ahead of time so all you have to do is memorize the answers to the questions and you'll do fine. Recommend!!
Took this class from a recommendation but won't take again. Most of my work was 100% and turned in on time, but the majority of her grading comes from just 3 Exams which I had trouble taking. This might not be the case for everyone but if you would like to be graded on things, assignments, etc other than just 3 test, I wouldn't take this teacher.
If you take this class online- DON'T. Her expectations are not very clear and I had to ask her multiple times and wait a long time to get a clear answer what the work and grading were based on. I've heard her classes at the college are much better. The grade she gave me- did not reflect the overall work (which was close to 90%). Not recommended.
I took the online Bio108. Definitely WON'T do again. Most of my grade came not from the labs and quizzes weekly, but 60% from just 3 tests we had to take during the quarter. Yeah, the quiz grade can be replaced by the exam but not the other way around. Her syllabus was oddly worded, I didn't get it at all. Don't take if you want to understand bio.
I actually had a really good time in the class. You have to be willing to read and learn everything from the book, but I found it all pretty interesting learning how humans work on a deeper level so I didnt find it that bad. All you have to do is memorize the practice questions (which will be the test questions) and do the labs which are easy.
Best teacher I have ever had
Melodye makes the content very easy to understand, and she's funny as well. She can be a bit scattered which can confuse you. There were only 3 cumulative tests, and a final. The tests reuse questions from previous ones so you mostly memorize the answers and study every detail that was covered. It's an easy class to pass with normal effort.
Amazing! She cares about her students. 3 tests and no cumulative final. All questions are from the practice tests. Don't even have to read the textbooks, just memorize the answers. Unlimited tries for online quizzes. Clear grading. Follow the instructions for labs and 100% is guaranteed. Easy A. But if you want to learn, take her on-campus class.
Absolutely loved her class. You can take her exams anytime before the deadline. No cumulative final. She also gives links for free openstax textbooks. But one is not mandatory. Detailed Lab instructions which are very easy to do at home. She also has lab tutoring everyday to solve any questions. Very helpful and quick email response.
It is very hard to keep up with her lectures, they are all over the place, no organization whatsoever. Makes the material very confusing. She has answer keys to the handouts posted on Canvas but she is not specific in them, so a lot of the time it is hard to know how you're supposed to get the answer. Tests are hard.
Grade adds up too 100.5%, exams and final are 75% of that grade. There is only a 0.5% extra credit and the rest is attendance and lab which are an easy 25%. Tests require a lot of out of class studying and there are answer keys for each handout on Canvas which are questions on the test. So there is a lot of memorization required in order to pass.
Yes Melodye's tests are hard but so are all Bio160 tests it has nothing to do with the prof and everything to do with the content. She curved 3/4 tests and had extra credit questions on all of them.
The teacher takes the long round about way of explaining concepts. What we learn in lecture is not on the test so it is hard to pass and do well on her tests. There are only three tests and a final at the end. She tells us not to read the textbook, but it is the textbook that is the only way for me to pass.
Yes the tests are hard and kind of make you wanna die but thats not the teacher its the material. She tells you what she wants and ehat to focus on and she buffs out the overall grade with attendance and in class sheet you get full credit in for just completing
She is really nice and the syllabus is very straight forward but can be a bit confusing. The exams are pretty long but she lets you do a group retake to improve your score. You also leave early most class days
Biology in general has a lot of memorizing but she makes it very easy to learn. She hand-writes all her notes, so if you prefer Powerpoint, don't take this class. Most days you can leave early, but you can also stay and ask questions if you need to. She's always willing to help. You also get to retake every exam in a group and boost your grade.
I hated her teaching mechanisms, she bounced everywhere and never really covered what we needed to know. I would give her a solid 4/10 don't take her class.
Melodye is a solid teach. I took the Summer course and so it was a bit condensed, but her lectures all had straightforward information conveyed clearly. So if you come to class every day, you should have everything you need to do well. I was honestly a bit worried about taking biology, but Melodye made it simple to understand. Give her a chance!
You need the textbook. She says that you dont need it but you need it to understand the material . She knows what shes talking about and knows the material but she expects you to just know something off the bat. She is very good at answering questions, so ask them. I respect her and prepare to work hard to get an A.
You really need to come to every single lecture she has. She doesn't do Powerpoints, she handwrites ALL her notes so if you miss a class and go online the notes make no sense. Says you don't need the book--you definitely do. It is a very difficult class and she doesn't give steps on how to figure out problems, just tells you the answers.
Professor Gold is a very kind teacher and works with each student individually. She tries to post class notes after each lecture. There are quizzes every lecture day, but they are only 5 questions on all together count for 10% of your grade. If you pay attention and take good notes and study before exams then this class won't be challenging.
Professor Gold was a very nice and understanding professor. This class was a bit everywhere to find the materials for online class. She says you dont need a book, in some parts of the class you do need a book. Testing is heavy, and grading. You can not take the exams online, you have to take the exam at the school or can us a proctor.
Pretty easy class! You just have to do quizzes (unlimited attempts) and labs which are easy. The exam questions come straight from the extra practice.
Easy 25 multiple choice questions on every chapter of textbook and unlimited retakes. Study guides are provided (which include the exact questions on the 3 proctored exams), memorize or go over them a couple times and you have an easy A. Lab kit required, occasional labs (1 every 2 weeks or so) minimal effort lab report due (literally no work).
I don't think my lack of interest in this class was the professors doing. The class is just set up weird and you only get 60 minutes to take a 50 question exams. These exams require you to label structures and body parts and an hour is not long enough at all. The homework in the textbook doesn't really effect your grade but the exams do.
Lots of busy work, labs are easy, show up, do your work and memorize the human body and you'll have an easy A. Tests are mediocrely difficult but shouldn't be a huge problem
I went into this class hoping that the professor would be as good as the last professor, but sadly Melodye is not. My biggest complaint would be that she doesn't respond to questions. I also got clearly personal comments on my homework that have no place in education. I can't tell if she knows biology or not because she's barely there.
Melodye Gold doesn't like people who ask questions so be aware, otherwise you'll get a snarky response. She acts like she doesn't know much about biology or can't be bothered with biology Qs. Homework assignments do not correspond to the reading very often which is frustrating. 2 hours before the test is due, she changes the due date. Not cool!
Need to read to do hw (multiple attempts), need hw to do exams (mostly MC, short answer disappeared on final). Simple asynch hw/labs, can do early. Watch your gradebook and email/go to office hours to clear up discrepancies! Lots of content in 10 weeks, would highly recommend solid high school bio first with a comprehensive unit on human A&P.
read the textbook and pray. 120 questions in 60 min tests. good luck.
She is not prepared to teach the classes. She is lazy and lacks interest in teaching and preparing the classes and the necessary material. I do not recommend this teacher to anyone. No personal lectures, only Youtube videos. Very sad
Doctor Gold is extremely nice & surprisingly laid back. There are a lot of little assignments, but nothing too difficult. Her lectures are good and don't last more than an hour. The labs were very chill and overall she was a great teacher. The tests are rather long, however, so prepare for that.
4 exams total, final replaces worst exam. Tests are big and hard. She is super nice although does not teach very throughly. Stuff on tests no taught in class, make sure to read online work thoroughly. Not the worst but not the best, if you stuggle with biology then maybe go with another teacher if youre good at it take Dr. Gold youll be fine.
Dr. Gold is very nice and overall a good professor. Dr. Gold gives students the ability to bring up their grade by group tests. I feel like she really does care about her students grades. The only downside is that the tests are hard and long and the information on it isnt taught in class, so I suggest watching videos online.
Prof. Gold is an attentive teacher, and willing to help out. Her online class is very straightforward and consists of a couple of easy labs a week, 1-2 HW a week, 5 quizzes before every test, and 3 exams. She provides all the questions and answers for the exams, so it's all about memorizing. The exams are 50% of the grade. Respects DRC.
Sweet, really cares about you. Took hybrid, not much homework most assignments done in-class and turned in same day, doesn't care about accuracy as long as you tried. 4 exams worth most of your grade. Attendance is not mandatory she posts lecture notes on canvas, but you should go her handwriting is terrible and graded labs are only in person
Very kind. Not a lot of homework, labs/assignments graded on completion. 37 small quizzes but you can re-take them as many times as you want, best score is kept, and it tells you the answers. You can have notes on one side of a 8.5 x 11in paper on exams. I never had to read the textbook, zoom lectures/videos are all you need to do well.
DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!! By far one of the worst classes I've ever taken. All she does is yap and nothing she talks about ever correlates to the work she gives out. The Exams were always about stuff that she never really taught in class. She does not know what she's doing at all.
Professor Gold was great. Her lecture style made me excited to learn and she's very lenient with homework and assignments. There are labs in the 2nd half of each class but they aren't really "lab" labs, they also don't really matter in the class tbh. The one thing is that basically everything is self paced and the lectures are just to reinforce it.
WORST class yet. Her notes are illegible scribbles, covering nothing of importance and an overall waste of time. You are better off not attending class at all. Cutting classes short, not providing any materials, or support, you are set up to fail. Upon reaching out for help, you are met with snarky and dismissive replies, Do not take this class.
BIOL160 is definitely a hard class by BC standards. Professor Gold gives great lectures and a good balance of work. Exams make up a large portion (60%) of grade and all questions are taken from assignments/practice. Other assignments are graded on participation and possible to get full credit for.
She is the BEST professor in BC. Her lectures were AMAZING and the class was easy. She was really laid back but also taught very well. It felt like she was really prepared to teach. All quizzes were take home open notes and she even allowed a cheat sheet for the exams. I would definitely take her class again.
This class is what you would expect for a biology class. She lets students use cheat sheets, which is nice. Lots of online assignments, an overwhelming amount of them. Make sure to study and pay attention because exams are every other week. She graded on a curve multiple times because class grades were low. She is very nice and understanding though
She's really nice but exams are 60% your grade. Most test material isn't reviewed in class and the exams are hard, but she allows a cheat sheet. It's discouraging to have so many assignments that barely affect your grade, I'd spend 5+ hrs/week on assignments with perfect scores for my grade to only go up .5% (sometimes less)... its unmotivating.
Tests had unpredictable content- some things from readings, some from worksheets and labs, and some from resources not covered in class lectures. Lenient grading, tests have a heavy curve that is usually 1 or 2 grades higher than actual. She allows a cheat sheet on tests; an optional final can replace the lowest exam score.
Ms. Melody has a great understanding on biology. She certainly knows the content. But the way that she teaches it is not for everyone. Prepare to read a lot and study a lot outside lectures hours. The test are not easy at all.Overall she's nice and know what yes talking about but the test are really hard. If you want an easy A don't take this class.
Professor Gold is very kind and cares for her students' well-being. However, the lecture material did not correspond with the exams. She does allow a cheat sheet, but it does not help you on the exams. The majority of the course was self-taught, and the labs were extremely confusing. If you want to do well in biology, find a different professor.
Professor Gold's class is a rollercoaster - unpredictable exams, heavy curve, and a chore-like workload. But her lenient grading and unstuck AI make it manageable. Worth it if you're willing to put in the effort.
Tests are 65% of your grade which is insane. She assigns a ton of homework and your grade will barely go up after completing them. Some of them will take 1-3 hours and will not change your grade. You will have to learn content outside of class in your own time if you want to pass the class. However, she is flexible with due dates.
If you're not a fan of Biology, would not recommend this teacher. Test heavy (65% of grade) multiple quizzes that barely raise your grade, and very off-topic labs at times. Lots of self-study is required, lectures can feel all over the place and notes can only be understood if you saw them in class. Fortunately, she does allow group test retakes.
If scheduled time is there for labs then don't fit an hour long “lecture” which you could barely understand cause of handwriting then expect us to come to class even earlier just to attempt to finish (had to come in 3 times just to finish one lab) Don't bother doing assignments as they have no value to your grade since tests are 65% of your grade.
Proff lectures were hard to understand, and her notes were unreadable. Due to my class being a hybrid, we had “take home labs”. These labs would be very lengthy and tedious. Proff. is very test heavy, though the lowest exam grade will be dropped. Doesn't typically give partial credit as it's two ish pages multiple choice and three pages written.
Such a caring professor. Flexible with her schedule to make sure she's available to help students. NOT an easy class, but if you put in effort and ask questions, you should be fine. I didn't have to use the textbook at all. Only thing is class feels disorganized at times- ask questions if you're unsure! She sets up the class for you to succeed.
Only your test scores matter in this class tbh
Class is test heavy, but if you use practice tests and review material she has on canvas you should be fine. You get to use a one sided paper on each exam. Most of the material is self-taught, but if you're confused she is very willing to answer questions. Heavy curve on tests and a group test afterwards that adds more points to your test score.
This professor is really nice! Make sure you study and did all the practice she gave before test and you will be fine. More than half of the MCQ is from the practice she gave. And she gives entry assignment which are some questions included in the test too. There is only 4 exam with a optional final that can replace one of the lowest score exam.
Class grade heavily reliant on exams(55%), even doing the other assignments didn't raise my grade, but scoring badly on one dropped my grade a lot. Lectures were very slow and would take a long time to get through little material, better to just read the textbook, her notes are also ineligible. Labs were confusing bc she didn't give instructions
Sweet teacher. The central portion of your grade will heavily rely on the four exams (there's an optional fifth exam to replace your lowest exam grade). Go over the entries, assignments, and practice exams, and you'll be fine. You also get a cheat sheet, which is helpful. The assignments are barely worth anything but can still improve your grade.
Professor's lectures are extremely confusing, and hand writing is hard to read. Your grade is mostly based off of exams, so doing the assignments almost seems pointless considering they won't raise your grade. Cheat sheets are allowed during the exams but are useless cause they never cover what's on the actual exam. This class was a waste of time.
