Great teacher, very clear and organized. Tests are hard, but if you do your homework As are possible. Don't give up after a few bad grades! Teacher seems to weed out the ones who are not willing to work hard!
Melvin is a really good teacher. He works with high school students, so he has a very high patience level if you ask a lot of questions. I took the class in the summer. Fast paced. Tests are pretty straight forward. I would recommend him!
I took this class for 5 weeks over the summer at 7 AM. It probably would have been better if it wasn't such a quick class so early, but for the time constraints we did have, he was a decent teacher. He's also very funny and cares about his students.
I loved taking this class. Mr. Artz was very good about taking time to answer any questions you had. He explained everything well. Plus he is extremely funny. The homework is all odd numbers, the answers for which are in the back of the book. The tests were easier than the homework problems. He grades based on your work not your final answer.
I had Mr. Artz from Pre-Calculus to Calculus 2. He is the greatest teacher I have ever had my whole entire life, hands down. If you have the opportunity to take Mr. Artz's course, take it - it will change your whole outlook on mathematics and you will be honed into a critical thinker and problem solver, turning math from your worst subject to best.
Good teacher; Not too much homework (7-12 problems per section). TESTS ARE RIDICULOUSLY HARDER THAN THE HOMEWORK & CLASSWORK. Even if he claims the tests problems are similar to the homework, I found majority of the tests questions just a step up from the difficulty of the homework.
Professor Artz was an amazing teacher and he really knows his math. If you are looking for a teacher who will break down everything to help you gain a better understanding and have a laugh while learning, then he is the teacher for you. There is a lot of homework but it is an easy A. Just make sure you study for the tests as well.
Although the tests were hard, he grades off the effort you put into taking the correct steps to solve the problem. There is often a lot of homework, but it helps with the tests. Really down to earth guy! Be sure to ask questions, he will make you think but will help you. Defiantly recommend him for high math classes!
I should first add that I took this as a summer course. It was definitely the hardest class I have had so far, there is a lot of material you have to learn in a small amount of time. There is homework every night, 5 tests a semester and they are worth 70% of your grade. No notes allowed. He is great person but he grades test very heavily.
He is a great person but I find that the test are harder than the homework and reviews. He tends to show you how to do an easy problem and then already expects you to know how to do a harder problem without showing you or giving examples. This is the hardest class I have ever taken.
95% of your grade is exams, quizzes, and the final. The other 5% is homework. Assignments are due on the first lecture day of the each week, a total of 3-4 assignments, only worth 10 points total; every assignment (about 30 problems each) is worth about 3 point. None of the homework problems are similar to the ones on the exams & quizzes.
Hard to understand his lectures. They were all around the place and not smooth. It is easier to read the text book and learn. His tests are challenging but that is the goal. Marked assignments lower when all of homework was done. After asking why, he mentioned I missed certain sections after showing HW which he fixed. But it happened 4 times again
Most of your grades are based on your tests. If you don't understand the class ask for help. His lectures can be very confusing so make sure to talk with him any confusion. If you don't talk with him you wont pass or maybe get a C.
If you want to pass this class I dont reccomend you skip class due to the fact that each day you are learning something new. He works well with the class and the lectures are well put together.
All you would want from a professor just goes a little fast sometimes.
Being able to understand concepts is a must, don't be afraid to ask questions. Test are nothing like the review so make sure you study hard on everything in the lessons.
Provides solid framework for mathematical concepts. I record his lectures and it helps a lot to listen back to them. Always answers questions and provides solid explanations. Patient and eager to teach. Great guy! Also, good sense of humor. He allowed us to work with partners on a big quiz. Much appreciated!
Hes really nice and a good professor
Great professor that makes Pre-Calculus easy to understand. Has a great sense of humor that makes class enjoyable.
I do not enjoy this class specifically as it is mainly online. However, Mel uses class time to have thoughtful and very helpful discussions about the material learned online, which helps to reinforce most of the ideas.
alot of homework outside of class
He is a really good teacher and makes sure everyone understands the information before moving on to the next section. Also, he gives out exam reviews and while they don't mirror the exam word for word the format is fairly the same. If you are looking for a handout I would not suggest taking this class.
Solid teacher and has a very good understanding of calculus. Makes class enjoyable and has an effective teaching strategy.
Very test heavy, DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!! Don't just write down the answers. Listen in class and though attendance isn't "mandatory", it basically is if you want a decent grade.
He was a substitute for use while our Professor was on maturity leave. Taught us one of the harder units of the semester. Attendance if mandatory and his grading is fair.
Fast pace class and everything is mainly online. However, Mr. Artz clears up confusion in lectures from the online lessons.
This class was a bit difficulty since he moves quick and doesnt let you write things down. Picky on how you write your problems and solutions. Quite heavy when it comes to exams and homework. Youll need to really put a lot of time in your study time.
He not only showed us how to do the math, but he explained why it was the way it was. It helped me to understand and remember it better. He added in aspects of comedy that helped keep class attention but didn't take away from class time. There is a great deal of homework but every class in MAT151 has the same homework.
He's a great professors. He will help you with any question you may have. There's a lot of homework but it doesn't affect with the professor even though he will try his best to work with you.
Awesome instructor.
Professor Artz is a good teacher and works through problems slowly enough for everyone to understand, but fast enough to keep you engaged. Attendance is "mandatory" but missing a couple days won't kill you.
Some of the concepts we go over is a little challenging but he makes it worse for going over stuff quickly. if you answer something wrong prepare to get put on the spot while he'll make a joke out of your answer in front of the class. focuses more on exams than on homework and notes. Study a lot or go to tutoring
He is a good teacher. He goes over concepts taught on the notes making sure the students understand. There is a lot of homework but some of it is easy.
He's a very caring and inspiring professor, he shows you many ways to do a problem and helps you understand it.
I have Artz as my professor for Mat 220 currently. He is very passionate about his work, clearly explains all the materials, and always is open for questions.
He is very specific how he wants your work and answers shown. If you do shortcuts to a problem expect half the points off. Literally have to show every step for every problem. He can be confusing at times especially when he starts the problem off wrong and goes back to change it. He really loves math but just needs to find a better way to teach it.
A great teacher who really knows how to teach and wants to make sure you understand the material as much as him. He is really patient, but he does go through chapters fast before I can fully grasp the concept but other than that, he's a great teacher.
Very funny professor and very helpful.
The professor is helpful and encourages the students to ask questions if they don't understand a problem.
Hey is a good choice but if you have a another option for this class compare the two teachers. He knows his stuff but can get lost/ confused when writing it on the board. He grades very well and can tell what you did wrong and where you messed up.
Tests are 70% of your grade and the MOER program that is used in the class is not great.
The professor cares about his students and encourages them to ask questions if they don't understand the subject.
Gets lost sometimes when explaining material but overall good teacher.
Extremely thorough teacher, sometimes to a fault. Classes can seem incredibly dry and drag on for an extremely long time. There's not a ton of practice done in class, it may end up with him talking almost continuously for the entire time-frame whether you're understanding it or not. Seems to ask the class more questions than the class can ask him.
Great Teacher, lectures are long but are understanding. Just make sure to stay on top of your homework and study the reviews and you will be okay.
The exams have a higher level of difficulty than the exam reviews. At times the homework might be overwhelming since it consists of a lot of homework problems, but make sure to do it beforehand. Overall, he is a great instructor and really cares about his students.
Lots of lectures but not a bad teacher. The class is Do-able, all you have to do is put in the effort and complete the homework.
Lessons are quick and grade is based heavily on tests. However sweet and understanding professor who is more than happy to help.
Every other day there are note or homework to be done. When we get to class he goes over what you learned from the video notes. Anything new in class you learn ahead of time.
Too much homework. The videos are different from what he teaches in class.
Hes clear in his lectures and takes the time to explain something better if you dont understand. He has been very professional and cares about his students passing.
He actually cares about your learning. Will work through problems slowly to make sure everyone catches on.
He is very lecture heavy but is willing to slow down and explain to those struggling
A little disorganized on the presentation of material, especially with calculus having a lot to go over. Other than that, HW and practice outside of classes is important and this CANNOT be stressed enough!
This professor took the class from another professor that was an online class. Everything is due online, but you still have to go into class to go over the same things you did at home.
Going to class is pointless, but mandatory. You do all the assignments online at home and go over the same exact thing in class.
The way he teaches doesnt correspond with the way that it was taught. Hell teach the most difficult method to solve an easy problem.
He is a great teacher but seems like his talent is wasted as this class is almost totally online. Grading system can be very frustrating but that's not the teachers fault. Must get 100% on video lessons before it'll unlock the homework and then you must get 90% or it will count as a 0. He truly does care for the students, & cracks good math jokes!!
Tests are hard, sections are sometimes complicated, but with the help of Mr. Artz everyone gets the point, he is really patient and comprehensive.
This teacher is funny and knows what he is teaching. He is a really good teacher.
This is a quality teacher as well as a quality man. He has his students best interest at heart and is very articulate with his teaching style. I am not a fan of the program used within the class one bit but he is still one of the more dedicated and passionate teachers I have had.
Was alright, works through reasoning behind theorems if time permits.
Goes over the material at times a bit too fast, and often utilizes shortcuts during examples that sort of leave you stumbled on how he got there. Lectures span extremely long too. But will go over examples often if the class is not confident enough on the material.
good teacher, but most of the class is basically online. Exams are 70% of your grade so if you mess up once, it's really hard to get that grade up again.
I would not recommend taking his class becuase everything is predominately online but you still have to come to class in person. Notes are online and you do them on your own. Must get 100% on video questions in order to do your homework. The program he uses is very confusing. Must get 80% on quizzes and 90% on homework. He is hard to get ahold of.
A student in my class even seems better than him at teaching. It's like he rushes in every class. For example: if today we were supposed to learn in Section 2.1, he would teach something in Section 2.2 and expect you to know.
No words, didn't like the way he teaches.
Professor Artz did a great job teaching my MAT151 class. He is a little slow in his speech but you get used to it after the first couple classes. He is heavy on participation so make sure you know your stuff. It is a pretty hard class but studying a lot and having your homework done on time really helps out a lot. Not the best, but not the worst.
he is really easy to understand, he explains everything really good and answers all questions, also makes you work on boards so you can get practice. gives out reviews for the test and answers questions on review before the text but also questions after testing. he is a great teacher
Really funny, great teacher, and easy to understand.
I took my Basic Calculus class w/ him and he was the best! He thoroughly goes through the lecture and makes sure all the students understand the material. He also has a sense of humor. FYI, if you take this course in the summer its ALOT of material to learn. You must stay on top of hmwk at all times/ask your questions. Overall, amazing professor!
i took this class over summer, so there was a big time crunch and therefore the workload was heavy. i got a B bc i didnt do all the hw, but if you do your hw youre pretty much guaranteed to do well on tests and get a good grade in the class. i took calc in HS and did not get it AT ALL, but mr artz's explanations allowed me to truly understand calc
The homework and his exams are very different than what he teaches in class. In class, he showed ways that were harder and more confusing. Most of the homework and the quizzes were online, but attendance was still mandatory and he collected notes for a grade. He will also call on you if nobody raises their hand to a question.
The first 6 weeks he gave us packets to learn in groups and I had no idea what I was doing because I never learned calc before. Then when I would ask what to do he would say something like it was supposed to help me but I literally didnt even know where to begin. Too stressful and everyone around me felt the same way. Nothing agaist him, he is nice
Challenging subject but Artz makes it flow easily. Mostly lectures with a few group work days. Really caring and entertaining.
Great professor. Attending lectures was a must. Power points are in the required textbook which made it easy to follow.
Great Class
Prepare to watch a lot of Youtube videos outside of lecture. A lot of homework since it's two classes in one. Overall a good teacher.
Professor Artz is a very understanding man who will often open Exams days early or extend them a few hours to be flexible with your work schedule (whether that be actual labor or other classes). He makes a lot of jokes during our mandatory zoom meetings. He always asks us how we feel about the material and encourages us to ask questions. Solid guy.
He assigns a lot of work but it's usually not that bad to get done.
He was a good teacher, and you can tell he really cares! But if you miss even one class you wont pass. It is in general a difficult subject and you need to dedicate time to study and prepare for exams, they are not hard if you know what your doing !!
Went over every homework and lesson to make sure we all understand the lesson.
Professor Arts is a great person. He is a professor that always has your best interest in mind and is always willing to help out his students. I will say that his class can get overwhelming. The main tip I give to incoming students is that MOER is super unforgiving. Give time for assignments, don't fall behind, hoard late passes, and ask questions!
All of the classwork is done on an online platform for MAT187. Lots of homework, but expected for a 5 credit class. Mr. Artz is caring and understanding, not common for math professors. Honestly my favorite math instructor ever. He knows the subject super well and loves to help whenever you need it.
Tough class! A lot of material at once. But as long as you stay on top of it you will be fine.
The course content is challenging, HE himself tries not to be, however, he does go a somewhat faster than may be comfortable during the lecture. He is very much willing to help outside of class, going so far as to host a Saturday review session. He will gladly go over a misunderstanding IF you are willing to speak up. Tough class, good teacher.
This class was definitely challenging and requires you to put in some work if you want a good grade. Make sure you pay attention to all the lectures and study hard! Artz was a good professor who knew the subject matter pretty well. Just beware that he sometimes goes a bit fast in lectures which can make things confusing.
overall pretty hard class to do online but I passed so I'm happy
Good professor to review the class with, also goes in-depth into explaining various concepts when necessary. A lot of independent module work, however there is help during class.
Overall was a good teacher. The lectures were through Youtube, but he would go back and explain more in depth. He was very open to questions and will find different ways to explain the materials if someone is not understanding it.
Professor Arts is a great person and he is very much willing to help even outside of the class. The course is challenging the exams are difficult and the homework's are too many so you need to get them finish on time. Make sure that you pay attention to the lectures and study hard!
Mr. Artz is a very nice person and teacher. You can tell that he cares about the success of the students. He's very helpful. The class is homework heavy and it can be overwhelming at the start. However, yo do get used to it. If you remember to complete all your assignments, and watch the pre recorded lectures, you should be okay in this class.
He does not provide the help I need, nor does he give proper instructions which would lead to me getting lost with the assignment. In addition, he assigns activities that do not relate to the modules. Moreover, the videos he give for reference do not help me with the questions I have either.
I want to start off with my class being fully online. I am currently in Professor Artz's MAT 151 summer course and it's a lot of work. The professor thought is outstanding, I mean the course is highly organized, it's a tough class but Artz makes it an amazing experience. I feel I have learned so much and we are only four days into the semester :)
The things on the tests were not things that were gone over in the videos. The questions on the final were questions that were not on the final review. I don't think I would take this class with this teacher again.
This was an okay class. I think if it was taken in person then it would've been better. I put no for not taking again because math online is kind of tough.
Mr. Artz is a very nice person and teacher. You can tell that he cares about the success of the students. He's very helpful. The class is homework heavy and it can be overwhelming at the start. However, yo do get used to it. If you remember to complete all your assignments and watch the pre-recorded lectures, you should be okay in this class.
It would better to take his class in person because he goes over the material extensively and tries to make sure everyone understands.
Very nice, easy-going and was able to explain material well.
Mr. Artz is an enthusiastic and caring professor. His lectures, though fast paced, go into detail about the material. He does give a decent amount of homework so I would plan your week accordingly.
What can I say about Prof Artz: Funny? Smart? Of course he checks those boxes. If you are looking for a professor that makes sure that his students get the topic, this is the professor for the job. And he isn't one of those professors that walk around with a yard stick up his... he is relaxed and patient with students. And he cracks jokes.
Professor Artz is the most considerate professor I have ever come across throughout my college years. His lectures are straightforward and easy to comprehend. He makes sure that everyone feels comfortable enough with the material before sending everyone home. He is a great math professor and I highly recommend taking his course.
Prof. Artz is a great professor. His lectures were engaging and informative, and he communicated with the class and worked through problems with us to ensure we had a good understanding of the subject. However, video lessons often gave basic understanding of the material, and homework was excessive and tedious. Grading was automated and very strict
He is very nice and a good lectuerer
Don't bother taking MAT151 online. You can only watch the lectures one time and you have to score at least a 90% on your HWKS to even move on to the next one. Lectures are super long and you get 2 assignments a day with about 20 questions each. AI grading system is really bad. Simply not worth it. Plan on spending 3-5 hours a day on this class.
If you have to work for a living and go to school, I highly suggest you drop this class or take it in person. Melvin Artz will not help/work with you in order to succeed. On top of that, you need to get 90% on all the homeworks in order to get full credit for them. The way this class is set up all together is set up for you to fail.
I took it over summer so we had generally one hw assignment per day during the week and nothing was assigned on the weekends which was nice. Test 1 and the final were online and unproctored while the midterm was taken on campus. Not really bad, was expecting a C or B but got an A, again do ALL the hw, very much needed and watch the videos provided!
Despite the instructor explaining clearly, the class itself is quite lacking. His online classes should be avoided as his homework does cover the very basics but does little to explain questions that become more difficult, as some questions requiring methods outside of normal lectures. Others questions may be unrelated to the lesson entirely.
I took this class over the summer! The teacher expected to watch one YouTube video and answer 20-30 questions an assignment. Do not recommend taking online unless you understand the material. I am not paying for the class to be taught through YouTube.
The tests are just like the reviews, so this class is easy if you want a good grade. If you are pursuing a STEM field, I recommend him as his style touches on those topics. This is a very financial-based course, so econ, finance, and business majors. This is a good course for you, regardless of your FOI.
Tests are worth 70% of ur grade. If u do badly on the midterm or final, u fail for the rest of the semester. Even if u do all of the HW and lecture assignments correctly, it will do nothing to improve ur grade. Prof didnt respond to emails whenever I needed help. 30 questions for HW every day & lectures can be 2 hrs long. Mental & time demanding...
Professor was difficult to work with, kept brushing me out of office hours when I wanted to ask him questions, difficult to discuss ways to improve inside of his class, overall did not offer much of a way for students around me to understand course material unless we attended a third party.
Mr. Artz is one of the kindest professors I have ever had and is hilarious. Highly recommend him to anyone taking a Math Class at EMCC.
Mel Artz was very understanding of students needs, and he would always want to help students by moving deadlines to aid students. As well, he would ask students if there was any questions on homework, notes, and reviews.
Professor is excited about the material and teaches it thoroughly. TONS of homework, so make sure you have plenty of free time. Learned a lot and feel prepared for future math courses.
Professor Artz is very passionate and knowledgeable, I would certainly take my next math class with him.
This professor will help you out with late assignments and is good about answering questions in class.
He assigns a lot of homework and the class can be difficult because of the workload, but he gives does well at explaining WHY we use certain equations and formulas so that we can understand the math, instead of just having us memorize numbers and letters that we don't know the meaning of.
Professor was very understanding as long as you actively participated in class. Lots of homework is assigned but it's easy to complete if you just follow the videos provided. I took a summer class so it did seem overwhelming at first, but after the first week things slowed down more and I was able to keep up a good pace. Overall good experience.
Mr.Artz cares about his job and loves to teach. This class will be a breeze for anyone who shows up and asks questions. Being present in class is important because it does move a little quick. However its very obvious Mr.artz enjoys teaching and is a genuinely nice teacher.
I took this class in the summer. There is a LOT of homework. My only complaint was that the homework had topics that were never taught. There were times when I had to teach myself However, Mel would always go over any questions we had on the homework. He is very understanding and a good professor.
Overall I would say that this professor is great. He's lectures are nice and easy to understand if you are actually trying in the class. The only downside to this class is the amount of homework that is given to you. Do expect to spend at the very least 3 hours on homework. I think that for a 187 class, it was pretty good.
Taking this course in the summer (8 weeks) means a lot of homework. Mr. Artz knows how much content a student needs to know within very short weeks, so he will make exceptions and push back due dates if the workload gets too much. He will go over problems on homework and video lessons. This professor cares about the success of his students.
I took Math 187 for the summer of 2024 and it is not for the weak. This course is very fast paced and a lot of homework all together. If you feel that you are better at learning at a slower pace then take this course during the spring or fall semester and stay clear in the summer unless you can stay focused on this course alone.
class was difficult because exams were worth 70% of grade even though there were 3-4 assignments due almost everyday that took a couple hours.
I learned most of the content myself and spent all semester on MORE. I learned more from video lessons than from the professor. His teaching was unclear at times, and we would always have to ask to explain how he got certain answers. No extra credit opportunities and a lot of homework. Although, he graded homework and exams in a timely manner.
Mr Artz was fun to have for my summer class and made it a lot easier by actually explaining the material but you definitely need to attend class.
Good class, lots of work. Straight to the point just keep up with the work and video lessons.
Exams are worth 60% of your grade and reviews woefully under prepare you. Known throughout for failure rate. But the only calculus 3 professor at this college.
He will break down everything for you. Uses real life scenarios for you to understand better. Don't hesitate to ask questions, he'll gladly answer them.
He is very passionate about Calc 3 and gives really good explanations (intuition) on theorems. Group projects are quizzes that you can work on with your table mates. The textbook is a free online textbook that is given to you by Mr. Artz.
Calc 3 is a
This class was really difficult, Calc 3 is a tough one, but I feel that Professor Artz did a great job of teaching us the material, showing us the connections in the math, how we could construct our formulas by understanding what we were doing. I felt he gave great lectures and that he really enjoyed what he was teaching us.
This class is tough but that's because the material we cover is very dense. Artz does a tremendous job at guiding us through these subjects. If you pay attention and ask questions you will do well in this course. A very fun and challenging course for sure. Would take another one of his classes again.
Mr. Artz has been a phenomenal teacher with his humor, empathy, and willingness to help. Although very homework heavy, the amount of work is required for how difficult the subject can become. Explaining concepts well and doing everything in his power to NOT have you memorize something, but to understand it. Putting math in a whole new perspective.
Difficult class that requires you to pay attention, but Artz has a dry sense of humor that keeps the class from falling asleep and keeping everyone's attention. His office hour meetings are extremely helpful and he will always help if you are confused on any questions.
He is always prepared and organized for lectures. He has high expectations for his students so be prepared to do the work.
Honestly a really good teacher. He explains things very well in class and helps with creating a clear understanding of the concept being taught in class.
Very organized and easy to follow lectures. Cares about the material he's teaching and the students ability to understand the material. Don't fall behind or work will pile up quickly but as long as you stay on track and take good notes you'll be in good shape.
An amazing teacher who makes a difficult course subject easy to digest and understand. I am very grateful to have had him for Calc 1 and now Calc 3 as well. It's very clear he cares and enjoys the material he teaches and he helps students understand the material. Homework and lecture heavy, this isn't a course to blow off in favor of another one.
He is an excellent professor who knows his subject well. To succeed, you must stay engaged—just showing up won't be enough. The homework is extensive but helps deepen understanding. Doing the work, rather than just looking up answers, is key to passing exams. He's also approachable and makes learning enjoyable.
I am grateful to have Professor Artz introduce me to Vector Calculus. He is thorough with his lessons and provides students with a good amount of homework to help students practice the content. In addition, he provides students with ample opportunities to review the homework in case there are any questions. Overall a well-organized class.
Artz's class is not an easy class, but not hard as well. Artz know his calculus and can give excellent feedback on whatever area of struggle a student needs help with. He teaches in a way where some students see it as difficult, but he really just wants his students to know why such things exist in a way and show the "backrooms" of each concept.
Mr. Artz is a great teacher. He is a 0kind and funny person. His class is on the harder side though, you must be active in class and do the homework. But, he really wants every student to understand what the material is. I feel like I have a better understanding of Calculus after taking his class. Artz is alsi extremely knowledgeable about Calc.
Arts is a great professor and an even better person . He cares about his students and makes sure to always provide feedback whenever needed . Though his class can be difficult it's Calculus and he is very knowledgeable and willing to help anyone succeed. The homework is extensive but provides a better understanding for material. Strongly recommend
This class is challenging, but Professor Artz explains calculus in a way that helps you truly understand why things work, not just how to solve problems. It makes the course much more engaging. You'll need to take solid notes and pay close attention. He cares about students and wants them to understand, not just copy notes. Great professor overall.
Professor Artz was a great instructor for Calculus 3 and I recommend him to anyone who wants to fully grasp the large amount of material conceptually.
Really good professor! Material is hard ( calc 3), just show up to class and do your best.
W prof, very hip and with the times. Clock ittttt
He shows magic tricks.
Will show magic if you ask!
Great Professor! Willing to dig deep to help gain a deeper understanding of the material.
Artz can be a tough professor, but he is also a good lecturer. He definitely knows what he is doing and what he teaches. He can give a lot of homework, so I would recommend you think about taking his class if your schedule is already heavy. He is very funny and very cool to talk to. Overall, He is really good and would recommend people to take him
Very well articulated lectures. Hilarious. Caring. Makes time for students that want help.
He has a great sense of humor, even knows what 67 is.
Great professor, if you have a question he's more than happy to help.
Has great sense of humor and is always willing to help you understand a topic in or outside of class.
He is tough but fair. Gives a lot of work, but the course is passable.
It was tough following the lectures often times.
Great professor with very clear lectures. They provide tons of notes and really make sure you understand the material. The only downside is that there are more exams than usual for a semester, so you definitely have to keep up. Overall, very organized and helpful!
Very kind professor but be ready to study. If you think this subject should be easy, change your degree. Respectfully. He does tell you to stop and ask questions if needed.
Will show magic if you ask!
There's a lot of homework but it helps you learn the material. Be ready for a lot of material, make study groups and if you get stuck professor Artz is more than willing to help.
solid Calc 3 professor. Clear, helpful, and actually cares if you understand what's going on. Would take again.
I took Calc 3 with professor Artz, and I was nervous because people said the class was really hard. But he made everything much easier to understand. He explained the lessons step-by-step and kept things clear, especially with partial derivatives, gradients, triple integrals, and surface integrals.
Calc 3 is easier than calc 2, but that does not mean you can slouch on the assignments! There is lots of homework, and if you don't pay attention in class. All the modules build up to help you understand concepts and formulas in the last module! I had some good laughs in Artz class. Make sure to go to every single lecture! And make sure to study!!!
Good teacher, assigns lots of homework.
Very interactive
hard exams, no open journal exams, prepare to learn
He's a funny and fun instructor! His lectures are informational and detailed, so note taking is a must for this class! He'll help you with any questions you may have and explains concepts. Lots of exams throughout the semester, so be prepared to study lots!
Be ready to get into the math you are learning, ask questions and be present mentally and this class straightforward
Artz is a great professor knows the material well just gives lots of homework for practice
Little unorganized but nearly made it past the semester
Do not sleep on Lectures, they are very essential
Definitely the kind of class that challenges you to really know what you're doing. Exams could seem intimidating at first, but as long as you genuinely study, the class is passable. Artz is also an amazing professor who wants you to succeed. You'll leave the class knowing the material.
Heavy load , fun math, fun teacher, i recommend because i learned a lot
I took his class fall 2025 and learned a lot, Mr. Artz is a good teacher but there is a lot of work and it is easy to fall behind, stay locked in and it's an easy pass!
I appreciated how in detail he was about understanding why things work. Any question you ask he will gladly help with. On top of that he is a funny guy who isn't always serious.
Very fun teacher who tries his best to explain such a difficult course. Overall, learned a lot despite such a heavy load of a course.
Great professor, it is not an easy class, so make sure to stay on top of the homework if you want to be prepared for the exams.
Overall great teacher lectures were well thought out and helped learn a lot.
Professor Artz is a respected and great teacher! He goes into thorough detail for each new module.
Professor is such an amazing instructor with lots of charisma. Be prepared as this class builds a lot on the previous topics and this course contains plenty of exams. Stay on top of homework and ask questions! I learned so much from this course
Took him for Calc 3, He's a funny guy, just lots of work.
He is a great Prof. Great teaching methods explains good.
Answers questions clearly and helps if you ask for it. He makes sure you understand material before moving on. Make sure to stay on top of homework, it's the best way to do well in the class and to practice what you learn. He's funny too
Mr. Artz is an excellent teacher that is very passionate/knowledgeable about the material; you'll learn a lot from him. With that being said, there is a large workload, so you'll need to adjust your schedule accordingly. In addition, reviewing integration techniques from Calc 2 or derivative/integral rules from Calc 1 would help.
You need to be prepared to study a lot by yourself or at the tutoring center. Good lectures but the exams test you more on your memorization of formulas or derivative/integral rules then the actual material taught. Trying to get help in office hours was less effective then self teaching certain units as well.
Be Prepared to work hard :0
Great guy, very funny, just really hard exams
I learned a lot this semester with Professor Artz. His lectures were very informative and engaging. I am a slow test taker so I had a bit of trouble finishing exams, but I had a great semester regardless.
This class was rough but everything slowly started coming together in the final chapters of class. Artz is always available during his office hours and shows his mastery of the content through his amazing 3D drawings.
Calc 3 is a hard class. Lots of homwork. Material is taught at a fast pace. But Professor Artz is good at teaching and explaining things.
This is a hard class but as long as you try and study the exam review but also your notes from lecture then it should not be too bad. Always helpful and asks questions to the class to make you think and go to office hours if something does not make sense.
Difficult so pay attention in class since everything is fast paced, however everything builds on each other. Review practice problems, especially homework's for exams.
Artz has very clear expectations for the class. His lectures are easy to follow with homework on each lecture. Attending class is important, it is easy to fall behind if you miss lectures. This course requires 10+hrs outside class. Overall, Artz is a great instructor who clearly understands the material and is always able to answer all questions.
