It was the first class of my day and I actually looked forward to it. I didn't understand calculus too well the first semester but with Mr. Hom, it was clear and simple. He isn't one of those teachers that are out to fail students. Extremely helpful and a fun class overall.

I can HONESTLY say that he is the best math teacher I have ever had. Math is a hard subject for many and many teachers do not do a good job teaching it and end up failing the student when in reality it was their fault. Mr.Hom explains VERY WELL, if you go to class and try, you will get an A!

I have a very hard time in math but Mel Hom made it soo easy. He explains everything so you understand it and hes really easy to talk too. This is a great teacher but he's strict on attendence. But everything else is great!

Mr.Hom is really a good teacher. The way he teaches makes it easier to understand math. There are a lot of tests but it pretty straight forward. No surprises. Homework is not collected but should do them in order to do well on the exams. He also allows makeup exams. Definitely take him.

I took this teacher at for Math 252 this summer(05) at City college, because that is where he teaches durring the summer. Hands down, best math teacher out there. I wouldn't have wanted to take this class durring the summer with any other teach. I also took him for Math 251 at CSM. AWESOME TEACH!

He speaks like a regular person, and gives helpful everyday hints on how to memorize stuff. He doesnt collect homework. He gives lots of quizzes (almost every other class). Many of the quiz and test questions come straight from the homework. Though it is not collected, if you practice the homework problems you will do well in the class.

If you need to take a calculus class..take him...he doesnt give stupid projects and homework that isn't impossible to solve unlike some teachers I've had in the past. He's well worth reorganizing your whole schedule just to get into his class.

This guy rocks!!!his class is easy and very helpful. He explains everything really well and its almost impossible to not pass his class. His quizes are easy and only consist of no more than 5 questions. His test are not that difficult either, he still gives you points even if you dont know what your doing.

He was an excellent teacher. He covers the material pretty well and gives you a lot of opportunities to practice. He gives one make up exam at the end of the semester, and you got to choose which test you took; and it ended up being the exact same test. He's religious about taking attendance though, and never cancelled or missed a class.

He takes attendance, so make sure you go to his class everyday. He isn't too strict in grading. I would love to have him as a professor again. I would rate him 6/5.

It's like what all the reviews say. I have absolutely always hated math!... honest to god until I took Mr. Hom's class. Even if you are not in his class and you are in the math lab, he will always happily help you without talking down to you and making you feel dumb(like many of the other tutors and faculty.)

Best math teacher ever! I thought I was horrible at math until I took his class. 9 tests total 10 questions each(one on every chapter) which is so helpful because you don't have to memorize so many chapters. Lets you Fix a test for better grade. Attendance is mandatory so be prepared to go everyday. EXCELLENT MATH TEACHER! HIGH RECOMMEND

He is the best math teacher you will ever find at this college. Always very eager to help if you ask him for it. I liked math before this class but loved it after. The others are right, be in class or send an email to tell him you can't make it. Four unexcused and he will drop you. Comes with a high recommendation.

I enjoyed Hom's class. Very structured class. He explains really well. Kinda boring lectures, but it's math. If you are tired of bad math teaches take Hom! You won't be disappointed.

Prof Hom is chrystal clear in his explanations. His class is not easy, but he sets it up, so that you can pass. More work up front, so during finals plenty of time for questions and review of things forgotten from beginning of semester. I feel ready for my next class. Highly recommend.

Don't get me wrong. Hom is a really nice guy, but way too easy. I got a A in his class without having to really work. When I took 253 with someone else I was totally unprepared especially compared with students who had someone else for 252. Be careful if you have to take anymore math after you have Hom.

Hom practically held my hand via Email as I incessantly Emailed him questions and he would promptly reply. The tests were not the trick questions from the homework, but rather sweeping concepts that anyone would know that did the homework. Thanks Hom!

Mr. Hom is really a nice guy and always patience to answer your questions. We have quiz every Friday but he will tell you what is the quiz gonna look like. The test is based on homework and is not that hard as long as you do well on your homework. He is my favorite math teacher, everyone should take his class

Hom has to be the best math teacher I've ever taken. Calc 3 isn't an easy class but he grades very lenient and understands that students make mistakes. We got to make formula sheets for tests and quizzes. He makes sure that we know the material and in the easiest way possible.

Mr. Hom was my first mathematics teacher at CSM. He's nice, communicative, and understands. He's straight forward with his work. Show up and get stuff done, he'll make sure you're taken care of. Prof Hom made Calc 3 super easy. Really clear about what you will have on tests and lets you have a formula sheet for each exam. Very organized. Quiz at the end of each week that is open notes/book, always a problem we've done in class so it's easy credit. Just show up, get through the lecture and pay attention; you'll pass.

Gives many examples to do the homework. Quizzes aren't too bad & he lets the class talk during it. Tests are a next level of challenge, but that's expected. Final is the past tests crunched into one. Lectures were great, he could be funny at times & it's easy to see that he cares about teaching his students. He's super organized, so expect to learn

Took Math 110 Hybrid. Must read the online textbook. The small amount of homework is actually the website's quiz for each section. Midterm is 15 questions but 1/3 grade, so study hard. One chance for extra credit.

When I fist new that I needed to take math as a requirement for my major I was scared, but since the day one with Mr. Hom everything went easy. He is the best math teacher. He explains a problem once and you won't need him to explain it more because you clearly understand him that there's no need to. I really, really, really recommend Mr. Hom!

Prof. Hom makes his class simple and clear cut. All classwork online that you can do at your own pace (I chose to do it all asap so I could relax the rest of the semester), a midterm and final. He gives us notes, and a sample midterm and final. Study the sample midterm and final and you will get an A. Would definitely take his classes again.

He is organized, clear, funny. The best professor so far. You will have the test after each chapter five total. One of the lowest tests will be dropped. Professor Hom will tell you to study the previous five tests for the final. If you do it , you will have an A in your pocket.

Hom is a great teacher for Calc 253. His lectures are clear and easy to understand. Plus he repeats the important things a lot, so it really gets into your head. He teaches off of a list of HW problems from the textbook, and you have a few left for remaining HW. He's pretty funny too. Also you get a formula sheet in Calc 253. Not easy but semi-diff

Test are based on the homework he has assigned. All of it is fair game as he would say. Allows formula sheets for all test which is helpful. His grading is by far more than fair, now and then he even gives full credit if he feels the problem was out of the ordinary. Only thing I wouldve liked is if the class was little more challenging.

Seriously the best math teacher ever. He's funny in the way repeats himself 5 times but that's only when you really need to remember something. I went into this class not knowing a single thing but came out with a B because 1) he's a good teacher and 2) he's the easiest grader I've ever experienced.

One of the best Math professors out there, lots of hw that's turned in during day of rest, but he pretty much did all the hw problems in class, so pay attention to these, and for final just study all the test of semester, the problems on test were either exactly the problems on past test or some numbers changed, would love to have him again.

This was my favorite class and prof in my first semester here in CSM. Prof. Hom is straight up on fire. He's nice and cares for his students. It's not an easy class unless you put effort and hardwork. Expect in-class work, 9 chapter tests + finals, and homeworks due at the day of each chapter test. Hom is an outstanding Calculus teacher! His lectures present the concepts and procedures with great clarity and make difficult material very understandable. Professor Hom made discrete math so fun and easy to understand he goes along with the book but he teaches his methods instead, hw is turned in the day of the test, cheat sheets are allow and he will review the material before each test. I finished his final in 30 min! it reflected all the previous tests.

Course isn't hard if you go to class (don't skip) otherwise material can get hard really quick. Proff is very nice & understanding of each student's circumstances & does amazing job at teaching material! Hw due at end of class so you can do it during class if you forgot. Tests & quick straight forward, nothing that wasn't on hw or class so listen.

I suck at math and he got me to understand everything. if u suck like me, register for his class and have your other classes adjust to his. stay commited and u will pass. exams are easy ( from the hw usually) he also does your hw by going over it in class. He is repetitive (good way. u remember) funny/ silly. haha.

Mr. Mel is a very good professor and easy going! If you participate and do your hw you will probably earn an "A" because he knows how to help student understand the lecture easily. I would totally recommend his class.

Professor Hom is an excellent choice for math, since it is an online class the criteria is very clear, and the website that he provides for the class is very easy to use, and it even has videos with clear examples for the problem. He responds to emails quick, which is a good thing. The class gets difficult during the end, so watch out for that.

He is an absolute treasure. I'd say he is the best math professor CSM has to offer. He cares about every single one of his students. . Aside from teaching, Melvin is very fun and easygoing and loves making his students laugh and genuinely cares about teaching and it shows. If you need to take any math class and he teaches it, take it.

Tests are based on HW, and final was based 100% on tests. He only checks that you did the HW. 5 exams, drp 1. Final is scored as 3 exams (so 7 scores total). It is easy to do well in his class, but 1 hr classes aren't enough, spend 1-2 hr in MRC daily to succeed. I drp calc first try, but Hom's tests were reasonable. Put in overtime, get results.

He is a fine professor who supports students really well. TAKE HIM. To take him you have to register very early even though he takes the first ten students from the wait list.

I've had some very bad math teachers but this one has got to be one of the best teachers in CSM. He cares so much for his students. Even if there are 30 people in the class he goes one by one to see if anyone needs help. He wasn't boring at all. He is also very sweet and teaches great and clearly. Highly recommend!!

This is my second time taking Hom for a math class and this is my third time having taken calculus 1 in my time as a student. Hom is a genuine teacher that cares well for all his students. He's revitalized my interest and love for math and my STEM major. He is someone worth taking for any course and is just an incredible professor. Hats off to Hom!

Professor Hom is THE best. He is the most organized professor I've ever taken He runs his class from a schedule and knows what he's doing. In class, he goes over homework problems for the upcoming homework assignments or quizzes which are very helpful. He is such a nice guy too! I can't wait to take more math classes with him.

Class is own pace with a total of 10 chapters. One exam per chapter on Saturdays, you have 2 hours to finish. Professor uses xyzhomework website as opposed to Canvas. Responds to emails & questions fast and always gives clear, easy to read notes. Suck at math? You could always go to mathways and type in the question. Easy A, just time consuming.

His lectures go by quite fast but he records them and uploads them so you can look back on it in case you missed anything. There are quizzes every week but he lets you work in groups and if you got something wrong, he'll tell you and you can get full points as long as you fix it. Lots of hw but goes through most of it during his lectures.

Professor Melvin Hom is a great professor! His tests are straightforward and you can clearly understand what the question is asking for. Due to our online transition, he is flexible and provides a cheat sheet during exams. Without doing your homework, your exam will not be graded. as long as you do your homework and attend class, you easily pass.

Melvin Hom's exams are super easy, they are all from your homework. Literally every single question on the final exam was included in the study guide. I highly recommend if you dislike math and need to take this class.

One of the best math professors I've had. Gives great example problems during lecture, tests are very similar to lecture. He wants things done a certain way, so pay attention, but if you do there won't be any surprises on the tests. Attending class was optional over zoom. Gave weekly quizzes that were due at midnight and were open everything.

The best of the best. His exams are very straightforward, what you learn in lectures and homework is what you get in your exam, nothing surprising or anything. He walks us through the steps of solving the problems in an easy, simple, understandable way, and not so complicating like other professors. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend.
