He is an excellent teacher, keeps the class entertained and opens up a lot on interesting topic to debate about as a class. I would recommend him to anyone. Easy marker, and teaches very well. Well mannered, and will give you extra time to complete your assignments if needed. Overall he’s class has taught me a lot, and was not boring at all.

Great professor! Course is a little dry, but Mel made it bearable!! Professor has many insights on creative righting, and thinking outside the box! He very much stresses on what the reader is saying in the articles, not what is in plain reading text. One of the best in Centennials english department!!!

Awesome class! Although English is a boring subject Mr. Solman made it interesting. He also made sure that everyone understood what was being taught; and went out of his way to ensure that everyone did their work to the best of their ability. Wish all my teachers were as nice.

Mr. Solman was my best English teacher ever! He is not like other teachers who simply give you a mark and that's it!!!! But he actually points out the mistakes you make and gives you suggestions in your writing that help you A LOT in learning and purifying your work. Mel is a good teacher and he repeats the information many times to drill into a person and one doesn't forget it. If anything he's too lenient with his students and they know it. By the time this course was over we all knew how to write a thesis and supporting paragraphs with ease.

Mr. Solman clarifies all the material and helps you understand the readings. He offers a lot of extra insight into the authors and their messages. He provides other helpful resources. He has a great sense of humour and makes great use of videos, cartoons, and jokes to keep it interesting.

Mel is so far the best teacher i encountered at Centennial College. He always goes the extra mile to help his students. Explains the material well and has energy. Will go into detail about the themes and techniques used in each reading article. Gives a lot of smaller assignments but he will give feedback on them so it's worth doing because by the end of it writing my final essay was an easy A.

I had this professor for both COMM 160 and COMM 170. Although attendance was not mandatory, I hardly missed his lecture because his teaching style; which is very interactive filled with humor. He is always prepared and brought with him enough reading material from text book for everybody. He is fair on assignment submission and excellent feedback.

Pretty chill guy, gives you articles and highlights main points of use in your papers, use them. Answers his email. Attendance isn't mandatory but showing up and listening to his analysis of the article will help your grade.

I took COMM-170 as part of my programs mandatory courses. COMM-170 with Professor Solman was very enjoyable, he took this course to the next level and made it very accessible, explained everything in great detail and very straightforward manner. I had taken many English courses before, but they never ended on a good note. However, his class was different. He teaches to fit my learning style. I had him for my comm160 and comm170 class. He is a very good professor to have for him, which is why I requested my success advisor to add me to one of his comm170 classes. His marks are easy to gain, he is critical when giving feedbacks; which is also good. If your looking for a comm160/comm170 professor you should get him as your professor.

Really appreciated his inclusion of the history of the English language. Talking about all of the influence from the Saxons, Vikings and so forth. I'm a big history nerd so when he started talking about it my ears perked up.

Lectures can be a bit and repetitive but are helpful as he will provide many examples on how to do an assignment and will answer any questions.
