He is a good teacher but the tests and quizes are too hard.
The worst teacher. He cant teach to save his life. Every time he tries to teach it's either wrong (about 75% of the time) or exactly from the book. Will explain a whole concept incorrectly. Gives points for wrong answers on quizzes and tests because if he didnt give unearned points everyone would fail. Dont know how he got this job. Dressy sloppy.
He is a good teacher, you can learn a lot and easy to understand, but you must to study hard if you wanna get a high grade from him. And he has a lot of homework need to do, you need to give homework to him to check it at the end of the quarter, so you have to do.
Mr. Sollid is a TRUE teacher. There is no way to move forward if you do not work hard in what you need to learn. Lots of homework, YES, but because of his method, I still having good grades. His test is everything covered in class and in the homework exercises. If you really want to learn MATH, here is the Teacher!!!!
Tries hard. Good teacher. Actually wants you to succeed. Very patient. Found the class to be very easy, and my previous experience in precalc was anything but.
I took Math 80 and Math 90 with this instructor. He is absolutely awesome! I have always struggled with math, and Instructor Sollid really took the time to help me gain a firm understanding of the material. He was patient and immeasurably helpful. I only wished I could have taken math from him sooner! I would encourage anyone to take his classes.
If you want to pass your math 140 take this teacher!!! He is patient and a TRUE teacher
Mr. Sollid is a nice man. But doesn't know how to explain clearly. He has no time management skills and is able to make a easy problem sound much harder than it actually is.I found myself doing 7 hours of homework a day with no help. I drooped the class, because i wasn't learning anything from here. He only confused me.
Nice guy, He is a good professor but isn't the best at explaining the material. I had to get outside help to learn the majority of the material. He is fair with grading though and he does give partial credit.
Nice guy but horrible at explaining the material. No time management skills at all. Spend to much time trying to explain previous nights homework so there wasn't enough time for current lesson. Tests were difficult but had nice answer keys afterward. Only take this class if you can learn material on your own!!
i got 4.0 in math class. He uses a calculator a lot, so you need to understand how to use it. Also, attendance is very important. If you missed one class, it is hard to catch up.He is very helpful and nice to international students. Quiz and Test is based on note and text book. it is not hard if you do hw and take note everyday.
Very nice man and I have learned a lot,but I learn on my own terms. His quizzes are easy and reflect the homework, while his tests are random and extremely hard.I've 4.0'd every math class I have taken but have a 2.5 in this class.THIS GRADE DOES NOT REFLECT THE WORK I HAVE PUT IN.He delves into examples instead of actually teaching the material!
he's actually a good teacher yet most of the time he is not be able to explain the material very clear so that students are having a hard time to understand what he's saying. he gives quizzes and tests every week and all of the homework from the beginning are gonna be collected at the end of the quarter.. and attendance is mandatory too.
Good guy, terrible teacher.
This is a horriable teacher. Do not take his class. This teacher can not teach math at all he would tell the class one thing but then forget what he said and say something else. WORST TEACHER EVER!! I dont know how he still has this job.
Great teacher. Genuinely passionate about mathematics and interested in helping his students do well and become passionate about it as well. Explains things clearly most of the time, and is always willing to answer questions. Uses great examples and assignments to help you really get a great understanding of the material. Taken 2 classes with him
He is a really good teacher ( and very easy too!) Just pay attention in class and do homework, you can get a 4.0 easily.
I think he knows the subject well, but he just can't explain it very effectively. At the beginning of the quarter, his explanations made sense most of the time. But by the last 3 weeks, things got pretty confusing. His tests and quizzes are OK. But his planning of things are not. The class spent 2 weeks on 1 chapter which set us back a ton!
Not a bad guy, but very disorganized and bad at time management. Doesn't respond to emails timely if at all. Allowed a group of slow students to hold up the schedule repeatedly. Blackboard grade updates are sporadic and not always accurate. Class isn't that hard if you do the homework for practice; he says he collects it but never did.
As mentioned, teacher is a nice guy, but a terrible instructor. He runs through his material quickly and it's often confusing and with mistakes. If you do take his class, prepare to learn the majority of the material on your own It's achievable, but it's frustrating to have to do that when you should be able to rely on the instructor.
Professor Sollid was a really nice guy. Hia instruction could be a bit confusing because he made mistakes frequently, but if you study the textbook, you should understand things. If you had a question in class, he was very helpful and would try to get you to understand, it's just that his help was a bit unclear.
Mr. Sollid has a pace; and if you are unable to keep with it, you will fall behind. He's happy to help you during office hours, heck, he's happy to help you if you catch him in the hallway, but if you fall behind, and don't ask for help until you're buried, you're gonna fry.
Mr. Sollid is great, his instruction is very clear and he is always happy to help students.
He is a great teacher who explains all material clearly. I would like to recommend you to take math class with him as your instructor!
Just... just don't take his class.
kind teacher, easy material, amazing course
This teachers class is pretty easy. The questions for each quiz and test come right from the textbook. However, he makes a lot of mathematical errors when explaining problems, and when called he may become confused and say "lets move on class." (this happens a lot. Before I took his class I looked up his rating and found a 3.3. I'd say a 2.4
Does not explain things well and often makes mistakes while working through problems. He doesn't understand his own work and just tells the class to move on when something is not understood. Very poor time management leads to material not being explained until after it is due.
Merc is just an average math teacher. He doesn't explain things well and frequently make mistakes in class. The class pace is pretty fast and if you cannot keep up with it you'll probably need some extra work at home to get good grades.
just dont take this class
He's very nice, but he makes many basic arithmetic mistakes, which is super confusing. He gets peeved if people don't appear to be paying attention. He lets you reschedule a test if you can't make the day, but he won't let you make up ANY homework or missed points. I was looking forward to calc, but now I'm bored and frustrated.
He is a terrible teacher and is in my opinion the worst math teacherat EDCC. Dont take this class
he doesn't accept late works, even though I turned in in the class, but he said it toooooooo late.....
Very confusing teacher. He confuses himself too.He doesn't teach well in my opinion
Worst class i've ever taken. Unclear instructions and moves WAY too fast. Often confuses himself during his lessons. The amount of time and work I put in this class does not reflect my grade whatsoever; if you take this class be prepared to be introduced to a new concept each day, graze over it, then have a test on it every Friday.
although the class is not fun and friendly, he teaches clearly and he only give 3 webassign homework a week. he always counts attendance. easy material. helpful outside the class.
This techer is horrible. His lecture is unclear and final exam is extremly hard. Also, he move WAY TOO FAST!!! He really move tooooo fast and his explanation is not enough!
How the material was explained was a little confusing and there tended to be a lot of mistakes made in his examples. I asked questions but sometimes I was dismissed because it took too much time to explain. he also forgets things easily as well. Overall, he's a nice guy and if you work hard to understand the content outside of class, you'll be okay
Don't Like His Class At all.
In this class, your calculator does all the work. He's frequently confusing with his take home notes, but is also very forgiving. If you need an extra day to do an assignment, he can give it to you and everyone else. Luckily most of the assigned coursework was online, which had multiple attempts.
This teacher doesn't help at all. If you have questions he says he will go over it and never does. He also doesn't go with what grade you have on canvas. He will never drop the quiz he promises, and if you ask him he will ignore your e-mails. If you want a good grade then don't take his class, you will work hard and not get the grade you deserve.
Not very clear on lecture material. Had him for business calc and biz pre-calc. Rushes through material and doesn't have great help during office hours
To be honest, He is the worst Math Teacher I have ever had during my time on Campus. He is all the bad things combine into one: never updating Canvas Grade, Unclear, and give a Pretty hard Quiz. It'll difficult to get 4.0 with him if you didn't practice and relearn everything at home. Plus, the attendance is mandatory, which is absolute SUCKS.
Merc is a great guy. He might screw up on some calculations but he gave us lots of clear handouts and his test are easy. Just show up and you'll pass. he always give full credit on group work too, raises your grade a lot!
he is a great teacher. I follow him from Math 140, 148 and 146 also. However, you need to be in class every day. He grades easily.
The class was all about calculator which is good if you're fine with using it. He is an easy grader also really helpful if you ask for help. However, he sometime makes a mistake that confuse students a lot. His exam answer was wrong... I don't know why he taught us differently compared to the text, and that made doing online hw really hard.
Sollid is a great teacher! He is an easy grader and very understanding when you ask to extend homework. He's clear on his lectures although he does make a few mistakes on calculations. However, i would recommend him!
He was really strict and not very helpful.
If you want a teacher that teaches and cares about his students, and actually gets answers right, don't take this class. Attendance is mandatory and counts for 10% of your grade, but if you already know the material, don't bother coming. Webassign and Quizzes are nonexistent in this class, so your grade is just tests, attendance and the final.
Gives extra credit. Sometimes collect group works and will get full credit if you turn in. Lecture are fast.
There's no way to contact him outside of class if you have questions. He has no idea what he's doing with online homework, and often messes up on the due dates. He also didn't tell us when the final was happening until the day before it happened. If it wasn't for the textbook, I would have failed because he doesn't teach us anything at all.
Worst math professor I have ever had. I was graded down 10 points on a question because I didn't show all my work, even though it wasn't stated that work needed to amber shown. I never showed any work on other questions, and I was never graded down. Tests are terrible and if he grades you incorrectly, he takes forever to fix the grade.
Sollid is a good teacher, he knows how to explain and is always available in his office for any math questions or problems that we have. He gives practice quizzes and test before the actual day. I think he is an excellent teacher, but if you want to pass then you have to put an effort.
He was very lenient with grading and always extended the HW when we asked. He was also nice and helpful.
He is my favorite teacher!! He always gives us time to solve problems our own and takes time to solve questions together. He cares a lot to students, hoping everyone passes his class! I would take his class whenever I can :-)
The Stats class I took was very difficult because he had the wrong answer over 40% of the time. The students had to correct him. This was hard for me as I would continuously learn the wrong way to do things. My number one problem.... I needed assistance which he said that he has office hours. No he doesn't. He said go ask another student.
He had a hard time understanding questions students asked in class and often did not response to emails. No retakes but does allow makeups if you let him know ahead. Easy grader. Willing to re-opened homework if requested. I had problems with my finals grade which I am still working to fix. None of the homework was put in and a few other errors.
This class is fast-paced, so his lectures are fast too. However, if you miss something, just ask him and he'll explain things clearly. He frequently makes calculation mistakes in class and rarely checks his emails (it's best to talk to him after class). He may be clumsy and forgetful, but he's very helpful. Just do his practice test & you'll pass.
If you buy access code for MyStats, won't need physical book. Merc sometimes rambled, but his commentary was funny ("I'll shut up & let you get to work now.") He could benefit from a TA as he would forget/lose papers or not bring enough copies to class. Answered ?'s during exams which I found odd. He wants ppl to learn tho, taught well, def rec.
It pains me to give this instructor a low score since his lectures are great and he is very clear when he speaks. You can tell he cares and I respect him greatly. MY issue with the class is it goes way too fast. Every week there is a test or quiz and just when you think you understand the material, the class is moving onto new subjects... difficult
I always tell my friends that he is the best mathematics teacher! He gives clear practice questions and always go through things clearly in class. If you do not understand anything, just ask him during the practice time. Very helpful, patient, and caring!
Mr. Sollid is a nice and funny intructor. He is on ready to help students with their problems. However, sometimes he had some pop quizzes that were for extra credits, so you should be prepare for everyday coming to class. If you have any questions, just come to his office or wait for the time after class then ask him, he will be happy to answer.
Goes pretty fast in class. Assigns a bunch of homework, and when approached with a question gives you an unclear and quick answer.
Very nice teacher, I love him so much and I wish he teaches the higher levels of math. If you are finding for an easy 4.0 he is the best.
Hes really kind but his class is very difficult and in some cases, the quiz is very different from the test preparation paper
I like him and his class. We do have teamwork but it won't drop you in danger because he is easy going for your teamwork paper. Also, if you are late, you can just go ask him to sign in the attendance sheet. The assignments were not too much, just what you learned for practice. He makes some mistakes, but it is definitely correctable. Takehisclass!
He is really kind and always tries to help his students the best effort he has, I find out that some of the practice quiz and exam looks similar to the test for only some of the test but after several tests, the test will be really different from the practice test, except if you really understand the practice. He does make several mistakes.
Merc gives long time to do homework . He answers all my questions fast . Also, he makes videos to answer students questions. But he didn't make many videos to explain the metrail but you can use the youtube to get the idea
He does give a lot of homework but with math I think that's a given. He also gives plenty of time to complete the assignments and is quick to respond to emails and will work out a problem for you and send it out to not only you but the whole class.
This is the hardest class I have ever taken, not because of the material but because of the instructor. The material is challenging but not impossible. The instructor is pretty checked out so you're on your own. 5 tests of 8 questions so if you miss 2 you're already marked way down. You have to teach yourself. No extra credit or print responses.
This teacher has the wrong quarter schedule on the syllabus. He has 7 assignments on there that are not even assignments, WE, the students, had to make him aware of this problem. I emailed him about a problem regarding three problems, he only answered one of the questions and did NOT even respond with a full sentence. I do NOT recommend.
This teacher's email replies are extremely unprofessional and unhelpful. This teacher really is bad at their job. Merc is very checked out, and is currently not helpful to any of us students. We all have a discord and we literally are ALL confused about some assignments and their "videos" that don't relate to the problem at all. Choose another Prof
Late on getting information to students, the program used was difficult to navigate and lacked lots of explanations. I learned everything from youtube for the first couple of days instead of the ebook.
2 weeks into Sum qtr. Merc's class is fine. Assignments are fine- I think 5 attempts per Q. The 1st test: 8 Q's w/ 1hr limit & you get more than 1 attempt at Q's. He's not great at communication & organization. He is lenient with extensions. I'm an independent worker & don't ask for much help. So far this class works for me.
If you are able to choose a different professor, DO IT. You will be teaching yourself everything in this class. There are no lectures and it is very hard to get communicate with him through email and if you are confused, he'll say "it's pretty self-explanatory". Everything is taught through youtube links and the textbook.
I am happy with Merc's Math 148 course. Lenient with extensions. Exams are short & sweet. In this non-synchronized class setting, I am able to learn w/ the info that is provided to me. I will recommend his course to other classmates that I found to have the same learning style as myself. Easy A if you are good at working independently.
I am taking Merc's summer course for math 148. 1 more day left in the quarter and I have easily maintained an A grade. Exams are timed, but utilizing the proctoring service was optional. It was nice to take exams w/o being proctored & w/o penalty.
This class needs a lot of self-studying. If you ask him a problem he explains it and gives the answer, though he sometimes replies late. It's easy to maintain an A, just do all the homeworks and you'll be fine. Tests are also not proctored.
Professor Sollid is the best! I don't understand the bad reviews. He drops your lowest test, three lowest quizzes, and four lowest homework! I was so ahead, so I am already done with his class for the spring. Take this class if you want an easy 4.0. I am taking math 146 with him as well. Also gives extensions if you ask, he is the best!
This was far and away the worst math class I've had to take. He is a nice guy but he is incapable of using technology. He uses webassign which is reason enough not to take a course from him. Webassign DOES NOT TELL YOU WHAT THE RIGHT ANSWER IS IF YOU GET IT WRONG. He is super old and struggles to teach effectively because of it. Don't take his clas
He's very kind and is always willing to give extensions. Class is optional, but you should still come because he covers a LOT. However, many students tune him out during lectures because he teaches at an extremely fast pace, and is completely unengaged with his students. He doesn't care if you listen or not- so it really comes down to you.
Tedious amounts of homework. Overall, it isn't hard to pass but learning is pretty much completely independent (even if you have class with him in-person every day of the week). Lectures are scary fast and don't require any form of participation. There are group assignments sometimes but those are okay. Quizzes and tests are generally okay as well.
Lectures too fast. Very hard to keep up with him he teaches you like you already know the information. If you miss a day that he has a quiz scheduled for unforeseen circumstances he will not allow retakes.
This class was painful. Nice guy, but his class format was awful. Multiple weekly assignments on Cengage WebAssign, a quiz each Monday along with a midterm and final. He didn't design the homework himself, so it didn't prepare you much for the quizzes, and there was no practice tests or notes allowed. Not enough time or resources to do well.
