Professor Baker was absolutely amazing. She is one of the nicest chemistry professors I've encountered. She is truly knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. The course is not easy, but if you put the time and effort that it deserves you will be fine!
Dr. Baker was the best chemistry professor!! She knew what she was doing, and she was a fantastic professor! If you can, take her class. The class is hard, you can't just scrape by, but Dr. Baker is ALWAYS available to help you understand, either after class or within her office hours. I DEFINITELY recommend her!!
Homework is HARD, as are the exams. If you go to her office hours she is very helpful.
Dr. Baker is AMAZING! She has been the EASIEST chem professor I have ever had. Even if chem is not your thing, she is always there to help. Her homework is pretty challenging but not impossible to get A's. Her tests are very conceptual, and the math is straightforward. I recommend her to everyone :)
Dr. Baker was very nice and was willing to help you outside of class if needed. However, the examples she does in class work out very easily as where the questions on the tests do not. Not complaining that this was a hard class.. but if my test examples are going to be hard then I would like my example problems to be just as challenging.
Dr.Baker has been the best chemistry I have had so far. This class is by no means an "easy A" but it isnt impossible. You will need to study a good deal, but if you do it will pay off. You do not need the book for this class, and she gives a lot of extra resources to help study. She is more than willing to help her students.
Dr. Baker is very helpful and clearly enjoys chemistry. She provides many resources for extra help and gives extra credit quizzes that can be added to the hw grade. Hw can be hard, but she has office hours if extra help is needed. Tests are HARD, concepts can be difficult. Some test questions were much harder than examples given in class.
Dr. Baker is the best professor to take for chemistry 1212. She is very clear on what is required for this course. The tests are not easy by any means, but an A or a B is attainable. She focuses mainly on the concepts rather than the math. She is always willing to help as well. I would definitely recommend Dr. Baker!
She's a wonderful teacher. Does not use book at all, but does give practice problems from it. Her tests are hard, but a B or an A can be made. It depends on the effort you put it. I highly recommend!
Dr. Baker is THE best science professor I've ever had. She thoroughly explains everything, gives you quizzes every so often that you can earn 1 pt just for writing your name, and her tests are mainly conceptual depending on which chapter you're on. I DEFINITELY recommend taking her for CHEM 1212 and Lab. She made me love chemistry again!
Professor baker is the best chem professor ever !!! She is super sweet and nice and always willing to help . She gave you extra points to help your grade by giving you quizzes . You even receive 1 point for just putting your name ! She is by far the best chem professor ever !
Dr. Baker was very helpful willing to answer any questions. She is available during her office hours, interested in helping her students, and understanding-she even allowed me to take an exam early when I would have otherwise missed the exam date. The exams are mostly conceptual and 28 questions but scored out of 25. Overall, I highly recommend her
Lab I received a very high A lecture was ok tests vary greatly the first two I recieved A's the second two I failed as well I missed one class all semester for a funeral when homework was due which I emailed the same night and I recieved a 79.8 final grade which if she had accepted my absence would have been a solid B. so never miss class!!
Lecture can be long and boring. Nice person, good teacher and explains things VERY well. Multiple choice tests with bonuses included. Periodic quizzes that count for extra credit, hw is challenging/requires you to know material taught in class. Final was the hardest test of all but there's a generous curve :) I'd recommend this class!
Dr Baker is the best Chem professor at KSU. She does her very best to explain everything for everyone to understand. Doesn't use the textbook. Her lab is also great, explains everything to you if you need help
Great teacher, your grade depends on how hard you work. She offers plenty of practice tests so if you do them you'll be prepared. In class pop quizzes are extra credit to the homework.
Seriously one of the best profs I've had. So helpful. Extra credit pop quizzes in class. Drops lowest test grade. 895/1000 points is an A. The class is hard, but she is intelligent and explains things well. Is very willing to help. Reasonable person. Also very witty and funny sometimes. Get to know her, she is great. I'm not even a sci major!
Dr. Baker is so great. Chemistry is not going to be easy no matter what teacher you have, but she is so willing to help you! I have her for lecture and lab and I LOVE HER!!! Attendance is not required but it's extra credit on your homework, which is very similar to her 4 test. She drops one of the four. TAKE HER!!!!!!
She is extremely helpful and will do anything that she can to help you understand the material. She provides a lot of practice worksheets and test review in preparation for the tests. Overall she is my favorite chemistry professor.
She was a really good professor. She gave extra credit pop quizzes. drops lowest test grade, gives homework, sometimes hw was difficult other times it was easy. she explained things well. always stopped to answer questions, and was actually pretty funny. I would definitely recommend taking her!
Dr. Baker is an excellent professor! She is very clear in what she expects from you and helps you in any way she can. Attendance is not mandatory but she gives extra credit pop quizzes. I received an A in her class after getting a D in the same class with a different professor. I would recommend her to anyone taking this course!
Show up to class. Communicate with the teacher. Seek help if you are struggling. The course rules are the same school-wide for Chemistry Lab at KSU so if you've taken chem 1 lab you will understand how chem 2 lab works. Highly recommend! Very nice and laid back enough to let students relax a little.
I had Baker for chem 1212, it was very difficult. There are four test and a final. There are pop quizzes that you get a bonus point just for showing up even if you miss every question. Her test heavily based off her power points but it doesn't hurt to read the book and get more practice. The homework is hard and so are the test.
She is so helpful and patient!! I highly recommend her! When I took 1211 lab I was always stressed out because I had an anal TA. Professor Baker made lab fun because she was so relaxed and willing to help! I would definitely take her if you can get her!
She is lovely! Chem 1212 is hard, but she can help you struggle through it. You can go to her office hours and she will help you with the homework. The tests are hard, but if you study you should be ok. Watch out for the 3rd test it catches everyone by surprise and most fail. Take her!
Cool professor. The quizzes she gives are extra credit to the test. homework is worth a test grade overall. She is more than fair.
Tests were overly challenging, as were the homework assignments (saplinglearning would have been much better). If you team up with other students & go to her office hours, you'll do better on the homework. A ton of extra credit quizzes for 200 pt homework grade. Print ALL powerpoints & take notes on those!!! Got an A.. it was tough.
Dr Baker is amazing! Yes, she gives lots of homework, but if you do it, you will do so much better on the tests. She also gives lots of practice sheets for additional help. She does give pop quizzes, but they are for extra credit only. She'll also drop your lowest test grade, which will help. The final is a bear, but that is not her call.
Lectures are clear cut and easy to understand, and very useful. 4 tests, 1 is dropped, ACS final, and HW all 20% each. Tests are straightforward. Gives LOTS of practice. Do that and you'll ace the tests. Has an SI, which really helps, also gives practice. She will always help you with any questions including lab. 7 pop quizzes for bonus points
Even through this class was pretty challenging, she does an amazing job explaining in office hours and will work with you. However, its up to you if you want to put in the work or not. I took this class during the summer so it was super fast pace and I needed all the help I could get. Failed the final but still passed with a B in the class.
Dr. Baker was a great teacher. I felt as though her lectures were easy to understand and she gave great examples. She gave a lot of homework, but the homework i felt was easier than questions that were given on the tests. She drops your lowest test grade which is a great help, and gives you plenty of extra credit.
As others have stated, lectures were great and examples in class were easy to understand. However, when you get the homework and then tests be prepared to be thoroughly confused as the class examples don't easily translate, even the Chem tutors in the library were often perplexed by the assignments. The final was the worst of all.
Great teacher but tough class. Gave clear lectures and had everything on power points that were available online for students, which made note-taking a life saver! I took this class over the 8-week summer and it nearly killed me. A LOT of information. She gave extra credit and was willing to help. Be ready for tough test and homework. Take her!
Total disconnect with class lectures and test. Amazing to completely pass the lab with an A and get an F in the lecture class. If you need help better try to form a study group to help translate. Talked completely over my head and when asking questions, would get robotic, impersonal responses. Worst experience I had, not a learning environ meant.
Dr. Baker is such a sweet professor! Always willing to help, recommend for lab!
Prof. Baker was a very helpful teacher. For each unit, she gives about 1-2 pop quizzes (for extra credit), many practice worksheets and test, and multiple other opportunities to prepare for the test. 4 test, drops the lowest one. puts all the power points on d2l. print all of them before class and take your notes on them, it'll save you!
I am glad I took her for the 1212 lab. She was really helpful and nice. Lab music was also a nice touch. Watch your significant figures, ask for help whenever you need, and it should be a breeze
The information during lectures isn't great so you really need to read your book, there is a ton of homework online, and occasional pop quizzes in class for extra-credit.
She teaches well, the subject material was sometime difficult but she was very good at explaining things
Dr. Baker is the definition of "tough, but fair." You know exactly what she expects you to master for the tests. It's not an easy class at all, but she is willing to help; I strongly recommend taking advantage of office hours. The tests are hard, but if you put in the work, you can do well in the class.
Dr. Baker is the best Chem teacher I've ever had. She makes sure everyone understands the concepts and ideas instead of having everyone memorizing the steps. Her tests are pretty rough but she curves all of them and gives out extra credit through pop quizzes. Thankfully she doesn't use mastering chemistry for hw, instead making her own.
Aside from cooking 1 minute noodles in 58 seconds, getting a B in this class was one of the greatest achievements of my life. She gives bonus credit in the form of pop quizzes, & curves exams. She is an excellent professor, but the material is hard. The tests were TOUGH but fair. There were no surprise questions, & you know exactly what to expect.
One of the best chem professors I've ever had. No online hw at all (she makes her own worksheets), & an opportunity for over 50 bonus points through the form of pop quizzes (wrong answers don't count against you). With that said, there is SO MUCH MATERIAL, and tests are HARD! This is a class that needs 75 minute lectures. Idk why it's 50 min.
Would take her again, she was a great teacher. She gives pop quizzes that are worth extra credit points. Homework is given over each chapter. PowerPoint presentations are very thought out and helpful if you pay attention. Test are difficult but if you study you can do well.
Subject material is tough, but she is the most helpful professor I've ever had. Never got angry no matter how many questions you have (or how stupid they are), and wants you to succeed! I had to work my butt off for a B, but she was there for me every step of the way. Best 1212 professor at KSU!!!!!
Best professor I've taken, not just in chemistry but in general. She really cares about her students, and tries to be fair with everyone. She gives out pop quizzes which counts as extra credit and adds to the Homework grade which is a huge chunk of your grade. She drops the lowest test grade and counts the best 3. Final is cumulative. She CURVES!!
This class is really hard but Dr. Baker is a lot of help. Definitely go to her office hours because she will help a lot. And don't worry too much about the tests, I only passed 2 out of 5 and still passed the class because the final has test replacements.
Hardest class I have taken in college but Baker makes it fun. Don't get discouraged if you fail any of her tests, my scores were 32, 44, 60, 78, 26, and ended up still passing. ACS final replaces all your lowest grades, so you can technically get an A in the class regardless of your test scores. Buy the ACS review from the chemistry club!!!
I have never had so much respect for a teacher until Dr. Baker. She is the smartest professor I've ever had. She is NEVER wrong, teaches SOOOOO well, and is organized and so helpful. She definitely makes you understand conceptually. But I still had to put major work in this class. Read the WHOLE entire text book and studied alot. Made an A
Baker is so wiling to help clarify - really cares about her students learning. So many grades in this class, you can overcome anything. For exams, do all practice worksheets with just a calculator and the test cover sheets (review what you got wrong as needed). Exams very fair if you do the work. Show up! Extra credit quizzes were a huge help
I had Dr. Baker for chem 1212 lab and she's very good. She explains well and is accessible outside class. Her pre lab lectures are very clear and help with the lab report. I recommend if chem isn't one of your strong areas.
Really the best Chemistry teacher I've ever had, so good I've had two classes with her. She's a tough grader, but she's fair. Lot's of grades for quizzes and homework (not online), so if you don't do well on the tests you can still do well in the class. Fast grader, posts all powerpoints online, and is always willing to help, just ask questions.
Easy to talk to&gave 6 EC quizzes (40pts total). Printable HW every week or so. First 3 exam avg's were around 60's. Total of 5 and final drops one. Practice sheets were no help. 50pt "test" on algebra w/in 1st month (very pointless) w/ no review. Good at explaining but her exams suck. PPTs on D2L but must go to class for answers to example probs.
She is one of the best professor I had at KSU. She is very caring and so kind. She works with you and is also very patient too. I recommend reading the textbook and going to her office hours every week. She helps you (literally gives you the answers) there! I would retake her entire chem class all over again if I could xD
Still don't understand the good ratings. Retook this class and did worse. Everyone was failing the exams and she doesn't do anything to change that. She is sweet but her exams are not. I regret taking her. Practice sheets did not help and you must keep up with weekly HW. Exams were not at all "fair" as others described.
Dr. Baker is kind and approachable. If Chemistry is not your strength, you may question your entire career plan throughout the semester. I failed 3 of the 5 exams and the ACS final (who doesn't?). Go to class for the extra credit quizzes and do the homework. The curve saved me, so I ended with a B. Exams are a BEAST! Good Luck.
Hardest class i have taken this far. The entire semester i felt like i was going to fail. Everyone seemed to feel the same way. After making an A in Chem 1211, i felt pretty confident in 1212... but sadly mistaken. The final replaces low test grades which saved my grade. Dr Baker is very sweet and cares for her students, but you've got to work!
At first, I wasn't sure about Dr. Baker, but her personality grew on me. She has a sweet and calming nature. She is very approachable and will stay after class to answer questions until we get kicked out. Attendance is not mandatory, but she gives quizzes that are worth extra credit points. She more softspoken than others, so sit in the front.
I really enjoyed having Dr. Baker. Chemistry is tricky but she was great about explaining things if you didnt understand. I recommend going to her office hours earlier rather than later, collaborating with a group to complete write ups, and studying hard for the final! (Also watch your sig figs)
As everyone else on here has said, she is nice and kind and all that. But being nice and kind isn't how you are going to get a good grade in her class. Her class is geared towards those who like chemistry and are good at it. If you are not good at it or a biology major, take another professor. People get 30s on her tests. Don't struggle on purpose.
Dr. Baker is an amazing teacher. However, this class is one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. You have to be very involved, go to study sessions, and DO ALL OF THE ADDITIONAL PRACTICE WORKSHEETS that she provides in order to pass. There is a huge chance at redemption points at the end of the semester, but her tests are VERY hard.
Okay, I never write reviews because I seriously always forget to. However, I made sure that I wrote a review about Dr. Baker. Please take her. She is wonderful. Cares about your grades. Gives pop quizzes for extra cred. Her tests are hard so just study in advance, go to the study sessions & you will do great. She curves the ACS which is amazing!!
Absolutely amazing. She explains things very clearly and as long as you participate in the practice in class and study for the tests she makes taking Chem a very fun experience. The homework can be more difficult than the test so watch out.
The tests are ridiculously hard and nothing like the ACS exam. Lots of people fail the tests and nothing is done. The speed is unnecessarily fast, and her homework grading is very specific. She does get grades in fast though.
Show up to class and take good notes. if you do that you'll get a good grade. Has clear grading and everything you are graded on is gone over in class and up on her slides.
Ms. Baker was a phenomenal Chemistry teacher. This class is not easy but her powerpoints are so detailed that with the help of her practice worksheets and homework, you should do fairly well. I don't think I deserved an A but if you show good effort and participation, she will give you the grade you want. Love her so much and will take her for 1212
Although the class and tests are mad difficult, Professor Baker is really understanding as she wants the best for her students. Even though the tests are really hard, after each exam there is an extra credit opportunity which really helps in boosting your grade. There's a lot of extra credit at the end that'll save your grade.
I took Dr. Baker for CHEM 1211 and CHOSE to take her again for 1212. She is truly amazing. She uploads all her powerpoints for each unit before the unit begins. She is accessible outside of class and always explains things in several ways if you don't get something. She is very nice and truly cares about her students. Lectures are important.
Best teacher I could ask for. Tips for the class. print ppts in 6 slides per page and take notes. Attend class for those pop quiz extra cred points (WILL HELP AT THE END TRUST ME). GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS. she will take her time to explain/help with quizzes and hmwk. failed 2/4 tests and the acs and still got a B.
Dr. Baker has been the best chem lab professor I've ever had. All you have to do is go to the lab, record the data, ask any questions if you have them, and you will make a guaranteed B in this class. I really wish I had her for lecture because she was such great lab teacher. Definitely made lecture more understandable.
She is very nice and knowledgable, but Just reads from the board so if you do not like that. If you can do her homework (without getting the answers from chegg like 90% of the class does) you will be fine the questions on it are harder than her exams. quite a bit of extra credit as well. You will actually learn chemistry if you take her.
Prof Baker is the best! She is so sweet and genuinely concerned about all of her students! She explains her lectures well and helps explain anything along the way. Her tests are still difficult, but that's just chem. She's great at explaining and the homework is not that bad. be in class bc mandatory and pop questions at end of class that is graded
Great professor! Lectures are long but in depth with lots of practice problems (especially for stoichiometry). Provides extra credit quizzes before every tests and extra credit assignments after every test. She responds to emails fast and provides great help during office hours. Tests are reasonable and based on the lectures. TAKE HER FOR CHEM1211!
There are daily quizzes taken each day in lecture, so if you skip you'll lose potential points from them. Do the homework, pay attention in class, and STUDY FOR THE TESTS. There are four exams, homework assignments for each section, and minute questions. Do the work and you'll be fine.
I cannot say enough good things about Mrs. Baker!! Chemistry is a hard class and I was scared to take it, but I genuinely enjoyed this class because I learned chemistry. She will stop class to make sure everyone understands the material and quickly answers email for questions about anything you are uncertain of!! TAKE HER!!!!
Chemistry isn't my favorite subject, but Dr. Baker was super helpful and informative. She is very caring and understanding of any technical difficulties or problems students encounter inside or outside of class. She is very accessible by email! She is always willing to help out and answer questions.
There's 4 tests, which are all multiple choice. There are pop quizzes, but they are extra credit. Dr. Baker also gives additional extra credit after tests. The lectures are straightforward and she gives lots of examples. She is willing to break down concepts so you can understand them. She is a fair professor and I also took her for CHEM 1212L.
Dr. Baker gives clear instructions and you always know what's expected of you. We often finish class early. She is always willing to help and assist with questions. She is a fair grader and also very friendly. The weekly lab quizzes were online and we kept a lab notebook.
She's a great professor and has office hours all the time if you have questions. The weekly quizzes make you stay on top of the material and summer semester goes by really fast. She also provides practice tests and lots of practice material which is super helpful. If she's available for any future chem classes, I will definitely take her.
Took her during the summer, she explains everything very throughly and even make short videos going over the topic she will cover and give lots of practice worksheets. I do understand chem but value the ethics and the way she teaches, highly recommend.
Dr. Baker was probably one of the best professors I could have hoped to have for such a challenging class. She was understanding of how incredibly difficult her class is (not her fault) and made a great deal of effort to make it as easy as possible for us, and give us as many opportunities as she could to help you or for you to help yourself.
CHEM1212 has been the hardest class I have taken so far, but Dr. Baker's lectures makes the material a lot easier. We have a weekly quiz, which is sometimes difficult, but the 2 lowest quizzes gets dropped. There are 4 exams, which are also somewhat difficult, but she offers A LOT of extra credit. She is super sweet and willing to answer questions.
I really like this professor. It was a lot of work but it was not very hard. She will help you with any problems that you have. She is very accommodating. She gives you many chances to make good grades. The final was pretty hard. Overall she is aokay!:)
She's a solid choice for chem 2. She provides everything you could possibly need to do well in the class. If I had a question outside of class, I would email her and she'd always get back to me within a few hours. I didn't really like the astronomical amount of bonus points given though.
Dr. Baker is a great choice for 1212 lab. She is extremely caring, and she will answer your questions thoroughly to make sure you understand the concepts. The only reason I gave her a 4/5 is that she didn't give us any grades back until finals week. This made it tough to know where I stood in the class. Other than that, she is amazing!
I was uncertain about taking Chem 1212 online during the pandemic, but Dr. Baker made it a great experience. She records her lectures for students to reference when studying, and she also posts lots of helpful practice problems. This was the most difficult course I've taken so far, but that is not a reflection on Dr. Baker. She is wonderful!
Unit exams are a big part of the grade, so do well. Weekly quizzes. Bunch of extra credit. It is still college level chem 2 so you gotta study, but she makes it something that you do not die with stress. Do all her practice problems and practice test. My tip, buy the ACS booklet early if that's the finals.
Very fair, instructive lab professor.
Dr. Baker is the best chemistry teacher at KSU. I had her for 1211 and 1212 and even though the class requires lots of hard work, she makes sure that you are provided with materials to study. Shes always available for help too! I was nervous to take chemistry online, but she made it survivable and I learned so much from her. Please take her!!
I had Prof. Baker for 1211 and 1212; It is a college level chem course so do not expect her to hand it to you. I truly could not thank this woman enough for her patience and CLEAR criteria. This class is HARD- but she doesn't surprise you. You HAVE to put the work in but she gives you everything you need to be successful + extra credit. TAKE HER!!!
i absolutely love dr. baker! she was amazing! i was very nervous about taking this lab, and she made me feel so much better! she's so sweet! she's also available if you have any questions! she's also very lenient with grading! a literal gem! take her! i'm sitting between a high B or a low A! she's truly that good! take her! you won't regret it!
Your grade is composed of 4 tests, homework, and weekly quizzes. She was very clear on the topics she covered and answered any type of questions anyone had. Only thing I would say is that we had a normal test of the week of finals, and our final two days later. Other than that, I would not hesitate to take her!
Took her over the summer semester and she made 1212 bearable. 4 tests plus the ACS (curved), homework assignments after every major topic (one is dropped), 11 quizzes where one is dropped, and short in class assignments for attendance. I made a C and only passed 2 of the exams and missed several assignments. Very accessible and caring
Overall, the set up of the class is nice. She gives great lectures and provides extra worksheets for you to use for practice. There are two hw assignments per unit and weekly quizzes with are not too bad. However, her tests are given at the most in opportune time and test are very difficult. She is a great professor but test are very hard.
LOVE Dr. Baker. She is the best professor to take for this course. This class is challenging and she is aware of this. She's very accessible outside of class, has recorded lectures, practice problems, practice tests, AND gives occasional extra credit. There is a lot of work needed on your part to succeed, but she relieves some of the pressure.
Dr. Baker is so kind and a great lecturer. She also provides you with so many materials to succeed (even when asking for old lecture recordings during COVID). Multiple bonus assignments and bonus pts built into every exam. 4 exams + a final. 2 HW assignments, which are lengthy, but she doesn't grade them too harshly. Have to work hard for an A!
Dr. Baker is nice but her tests were a beast. I failed the first two exams. Then, my friends and I expressed to her our concerns about the difficulty of the exams and she did make exams 3 and 4 a bit easier. She also started giving extra credit after exam 2. The final was back to being difficult, however. She does know her stuff. Quizzes weekly.
Chem 2 is a difficult topic, so beware before criticizing teachers. Dr. Baker gives plenty of examples for each topic, but TESTS are difficult. I failed the first test, but you can adapt to the difficulty with plenty of practice and UNDERSTANDING of concepts. Homeworks are also difficult. If you are looking for a great professor, chose Dr. Baker!
avoid her if you're not super chem savvy. her lectures were easy to understand but her exams, homeworks, and quizzes were so difficult. lecture material did NOT prepare us for the exams, especially the ACS final. a nice prof but makes her exams way too complicated. ACS final was awful for many many students
Dr. Baker is a very kind and caring lady, although her class is extremely difficult. tests are extremely difficult, and the practice tests had almost nothing to do with the actual test. i was fooled by her high rating, and thought this class would be an easy A. she does offer a lot of extra credit.
If you want to pass CHEM 1212, TAKE HER!! She does gives lots of work and grades hard. Test are pretty hard but recommend going to SI Sessions OFTEN. She gives lots of extra credit. Don't miss class though, you will regret it. As long as you go to class, pay attention, take good notes, go to SI, and study a lot outside of class you will pass.
DO NOT take Baker. I'm a chem major, attended every class, and studied rigorously for the tests Her tests are insanely difficult, her homework is not online or adaptive its a few printed pages that has 15 or so very difficult monster questions. she does offer extra credit and curve the ACS; if she didn't, I don't think anyone would pass.
Very hard class, more than half of class failed/ dropped the class, and I was one of them. If you are studious and likes numbers, then go ahead and take this class. If not do not take this class with this teacher!
Nice professor, but extremely boring lectures. Furthermore, tests are overwhelmingly hard compared to the practice problems and problems completed in class. If you want an A, do not take her.
Should've dropped the class when I had the chance. She puts examples on her powerpoints, however, the questions in the exams are way tougher. Some questions in the exams are not even reviewed in class. She rushes the lectures and even friends in other classes couldn't understand her homework assignments. Take someone else!
This class is extremely difficult and the tests do not reflect the homework or the in-class practice questions. There are lots of extra credit opportunities but it doesn't suffice when test averages are always failing. Half the class dropped the lecture out of ~80 students. There are "practice tests" that are NOT helpful.
The professor herself is super nice BUT grades harshly. 4 exams, all multiple choice, does not give partial credit. I personally liked her lectures, but someti I feel like what she teaches doesn't match the exams. The hw/notes was my best studying tool for the exams. Pop-up quizzes counted as extra credit. Your grade is mainly on exams, HW, & final
Lab was honestly not that bad, they were actually kind of fun. The lab worksheets however, were my worst nightmares (definitely don't wait 'till the last minute to get it done). The ws are very complex, and Dr.baker will take off points for little details like incorrect # of sig figs. She grades the ws for accuracy and the notebooks for completion.
Dr. Baker is an extremely generous professor and it's obvious she loves to see her students succeed. She has a relaxed teaching style and has TONS of extra credit. Attendance is mandatory but worth it as there are extra credit pop quizzes. The only reason I didn't give her a 5 is because her tests are pretty hard. Take her but study hard.
Biochemistry is an extremely hard class, but Dr. Baker makes it the most tolerable. She gives huge extra credit opportunities (10+ points/test) and explains things so well. She can go very fast in lecture and it is a LOT of content, and her tests are very specific and can be quite difficult. Study hard and go to class, she takes attendance.
not a chem major but this class made me consider switching. Dr. Baker makes an otherwise hard topic simple and breaks things down well. Not a lot of hw; tests are pretty heavy. nice person and doesn't make you feel intimidated by chemistry; also doesn't make you go out and buy your own scantrons. definitely recommend
Hands down worst professor I've had. Save yourself the pain and choose Rojas. Baker's exams look NOTHING like the exams. I am a straight A student and I'm not sure I'll pass this class. She moves too fast and expects you to just learn everything on the exams. They are impossible and worth too much. HW is on paper, also really hard to do well on.
The tests are too long for 50 minute class periods. She only gives you 8 paper-based homework assignments and exams that are NOTHING like her study guides. Her tests compared to other profs' exams are much, much harder. Do not take Dr. Baker. I am an all-A's biochem student who might get a C in here.
Dr. Baker gives so few assignments and her tests are not only long but very difficult. Her class is nothing like other 1212 courses. Her homework is on paper, and her PowerPoint uploads are always blank and unhelpful, so don't miss a class. She is obviously not good with technology. Please take someone else.
If you do not have a solid base for chemistry 1211, you will be SCREWED in this class. You have homework assignments and tests as your grades and that pretty much it. She gives extra credit in her pop quizzes but it will not help you if
Baker is a good lab professor but not the most approachable. She has good resources though for completing labs
The class material is not difficult but this professor's tests are extremely hard. There are a total of four exams and they are all challenging. The test and the materials to prepare you are very different and will throw you a curve ball. She does give extra credit in the form of pop quizzes but they really do not help if you are failing the tests.
Please take somebody else! Her exams are the most difficult and confusing tests I've ever taken. You have to complete 17 multiple choice questions and a multiple part short answer section. The questions on the exam do not reflect what we are taught in lecture and her homework assignments are no help either. She goes too fast in lecture as well!
Dr. Baker has all of her presentations, lecture recordings, and practice worksheets/tests available to study. Her tests are more challenging than some other professors' but they help us to be more prepared for the standardized final. Put in the work and the class is easy. Definitely one of my favorite chem professors here.
Garbage for learning the content to do well on her tests. She is a nice person, but that means nothing when you are only there to pass a class. Her tests are nothing like practice, they're not representative of the lectures. Classes focus a lot on math based problems while half the test is conceptual which does not get covered nearly as much.
no matter how hard I tried or how much I studied, I only passed one test. The tests had trick questions and were worded differently than anything she had ever shown us in lecture or on homework or practice tests. I suggest taking some one else.
This class is tough, but Dr. Baker is a very clear instructor and offers a lot of extra credit opportunities. The tests are hard but I think they prepared me well for the final exam. She also posted pre-recorded lectures which were amazing to study with. Her teaching style may not be for everyone, but she made chemistry make sense for me.
Do not take unless you want to teach yourself! Lectures were nothing like her homework, homework was nothing like tests. Had to do a bunch of extra worksheets to even be close to passing tests. She had to curve the final grades so people could actually pass. Class average on most tests was around a 50 or less. Do not let her high rating fool you.
THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER! She is quite but if you try to get to know her she is literally very caring of her students and TRULY wants you to succeed. I had her for 4 WEEK chem 1212. Material is very hard but she is the best! Curves the exams, no hw, 20 pt extra credit. This is one of her fav subjects to teach, so she is enthusiastic for you learn to
She doesn't give you nearly enough time for her extremely difficult exams, and her homework isn't online so it is hard to do well, and that matters a lot. Her pop quizzes are extra credit and almost make zero difference in your grade. You get 4 exams (lowest dropped), 8 HWs, and a final. The study guides for exams are almost a waste of time.
She's a great person and teacher. It is just lectures but she answers any questions and you can go up to her before and after class to ask questions and she's really nice about it. You have to pay attention and do the extra practice sheets to get at least like a 75/80 on a test.
Meredith Baker was a sweet teacher that knows her stuff. Her tests are difficult though and during lectures she tends to speak very fast so sometimes it's hard to keep up. She does answer back fast though through emails and comes extra early to class in case anyone may have questions.
Has quizzes for class attendance that can hurt or raise your grade only based on if you actually attend lecture. Is a pretty easy grader but it's a little more difficult to get her to explain things out when you are confused. Other than that she's really laid back and there are a lot of easy ways to raise your grade.
She has a very hard time coordinating what she teaches with what actually shows up on tests. She does not follow the same format as many other professors, so the standardized final is not as familiar to her classes. I spent more time teaching myself the material than I did in her class as well, so be prepared to teach yourself most of the material.
She one of the best Chem 2 professors. So laid back and always giving an extra credit opportunity. I could not recommend anyone better.
Make sure you attend every lecture if you want an understanding. I wish I would have attended every lecture. Not a lot of homework compared to my chem1211 teacher.
Professor Baker is very sweet and nice, however her exams don't match AT ALL with whats taught. She will give you homework and practice exams that make you feel so confident, but then you show up for the exam and its insanely difficult. Theres only 4 exams with the final and a homework for each exam. I would take her if you want to take hard exams
The professor has a specific teaching style, but if you engage with it, the class works well. Attend lectures, read the textbook, and use resources like unstuck study to succeed. The exams are challenging but fair.
Clear and concise PowerPoints and lecture style. Did practice problems and did pop quizzes only for extra points. Go to class and make sure you are asking questions when confused! Amazing professor and very sweet. Grades inconsistently, but works like 4 other teaching jobs, so just be patient!
The lectures don't feel very engaging, but the videos she provides can be helpful. The tests are pretty awful; sometimes, they're unnecessarily too difficult. The issue is that you can be proficient in chemistry but still not pass because of the tests. There are lots of extra credit opportunities to compensate, but overall, it's a rough system.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but would highly suggest going because there are pop quizzes, they're not mandatory but could save you. Her exams are somewhat difficult, and her hw are easy, but I would not rely on those for exams.
Please do not take her. I took this Professor in the Fall 2022 semester and she intentionally makes her class difficult and her exams are way harder than what is covered in class. On the home-works she provided monster questions where she deducts large number of points for the tiniest mistake. DO NOT TAKE HER. She will smash your gpa into pieces.
Overall this professor wasn't so bad. Her exams are difficult but with enough studying you should be ight. Attendance isn't mandatory but I suggest going for the pop quizzes which are for extra credit and the lectures help.
DR BAKER IS A GEM!!! i don't understand how there's even bad reviews of her. they're written by people who don't attend or pay attention. GO to class, exams are easy if you study. she explains so well and provides so many useful practice worksheets. will 1000% be taking her for chem 1212!!!! once again, ATTEND CLASS AND PAY ATTENTION TO EVERYTHING!
I'm a chemistry major, so my opinion may be very different from yours. Personally found this course incredibly easy and her being an AMAZING professor contributed as well. Keep in mind that chemistry will always have its difficult times, you will do good if you WORK HARD. It is cumulative, do not fall behind!
She was a really good lecturer and gave plenty of practice problems during the lectures. She also provides practice tests for each unit, which are very similar to the actual exam. Tests are curved, lowest test replaced with final, and several extra credit opportunities. Overall, as long as you put in some effort you should do good in the class.
Probably the best chem professor you can take, prepared me for the acs exam which was really easy, give some extra credit not a whole lot. Good lectures in person as well as the ones online which is good if you can't make the lecture or want to learn it online. But the tests are like the study guide and some easy hw to boost your grade.
great professor, tests are hard but manageable if you study enough. don't cram, watch all the lecture videos, take notes, do the practice worksheets, and you'll be fine.
