Prof Davis is the WORST. she is so rude and mean. She always calls out and people and makes you feel stupid if you don't know the perfect response to give her. NEVER take her. I cant stand her
for art and society she is a fantastic professor. she definitly knows what she's talking about and she tries her best to help you understand the material. she definitly has her own opinions, but doesn't force them on her class. great prof. i'd take her again any day.

i was never interested in art history, but she changed that. she is the best professor ive every had!! she has her own opinions and some people thought she was rude, but she is funny as hell. really easy going with the grading, and even let us redo a huge paper that was do!! i would take her agian!!
Very rude teacher. Definetly did pick on the boys in class more. Avoid at all costs.
I hate this woman. Terrible!
Worst teacher Ive had at ramapo

Content was fun and interesting, but definately did not focus on "purposes of art." More of a world cultures (religion mainly) kind of deal. Wish we could have gone to the museum on our *own* time as well; really tough to rearrange my schedule since I chose a wednesday class and not a saturday one.
Okay- she definitely knows what shes talking about, BUT if youre not an art major DO NOT bother taking this class. Its not easy, at all. Shes boring, and somehow the class turned into a history course. I dont even feel like its an art class anymore. She also has an Attitude problem.
one trip is a lot with classes, but two is hectic.. class was falsely advetrised and should be renamed to 'global art and syncretism'. i was not prepared for the subject material and she grades with a hawk eye and notices every little inconsistency. subject material was interesting though
Flips out on people who are late, even when she is late herself. Teaches a college class like she's teaching high school kids. Knows what she's talking about, but is very unorganized. 3 response papers, 3 Museum papers, one final exam, lectures for the whole time. 2 sat. museum trips that are mandatory, dont take if u cant go to the museums
i don't know what u guys are talking about. it was definately not the easiest class but prof davisis very resonable and the work is not too bad..a lot of reading but only 2 papers..very intersting class
fantastic professor. don't take her if you don't know how to think or work. easy if you like art history. she has strong opinions of her own but if you can back up your own opinions she'll listen. she definitely knows what she's talking about. She won't tolerate idiocy or lateness-expects you to act like a mature college student.
Its to bad the subject is interesting and the teacher sucks. she only likes to hear her own voice and talks over her students which is highly irritating. Good luck if you want to ruin your idea of art which is supposed to be meaningful. In this class her annoying attitude will make you belive its usless.
Very hard to comprehend anything she was saying and she was always unclear in her lectures.
She's difficult, but not tough. The material is tough and it's not her fault she teaches rather than spoonfeeds. Very nice and proactive to help her students.
great professor and class both times i've taken her. she really knows her stuff and goes into a ton of detail when explaining things in class. however, don't take her if you want an easy class. she expects you to pay attention and won't put up with dumb excuses or questions. 2 mandatory museum trips are great don't take class if u can't go on them
This is a really exciting class and I got WAy into it! Teacher is casual, but also a hard -ass (in the good way) rewards the real students - no need to have studied art at all, just to do the work and be curious/not an idiot. VERY helpful outside of class and fair - seemed understanding to one girl who had a REAL emergenecy.
This is a junior level class with junior level output expectations. You need to actually do the work in this class to succeed! The Prof does a good job of maintaining your interest, only one paper and no final!! The Prof sets you up for sucesss. Great class! Don't take it if you are looking for an easy A though, she challenges you to use your brain
Best teacher i have come across so far. She stays on topic and brings interesting information beyond that of the text. Allows students to explore their interests. Will only excell if you take the class as seriously as she does. Homework sheets simple and the readings were actually worth it. Great.
good prof. professional in principles and takes HER job seriously, along with my work. But she's fun, nice, a REAL person (COOL?) and SMART. wants to see each of us get smarter, I felt.
She is pure evil. I cannot stand this women. Speaks very rudely and inappropriately and mocks students all the time. Several of my friends dropped the course because they just couldn't stand her or her comments. There is so much work due every class as well as mandatory class trips. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
personally i think she is great. she may be somewhat tough, but she just wants you to learn! i am taking her again in the fall.
I've had Prof. Davis two times. The first time, she scared the pants off of me. The second time, I loved her. She's very knowledgeable, entertaining and wants you to learn. If you're willing to work and learn, she's the professor for you. But if you're looking to slack off and not participate, don't bother - she'll call you out on it!
She is a tough teacher but knows a damn lot. I'd rather a teacher who will tell me the truth then let me sail along. She is tough because she wants everyone to be great but maybe it comes off wrong. dont expect an easy A but expect to be proud when your done if you get an A
great prof - FUNNY, reaL PERSON. GREAT COURSE STRUCTURE - LOTS of work but she assigned is all semester long, not in a single exam or paper. no final, 2 short papers, homework due most weeks. very flexible, but not with ****.
American art class - essential to anyone who plans (like me) to teach in any US schools. I worked pretty hard (not hardest) for a B. no easy A. Prof really integrated art w/ history, politics, other areas of life. Also dealt with the ART in ways that sharpened my eyes. good readings, good assignments. I learned a lot, and she cares. but I
M.Davis, is wonderful, life changing professor. She will prob. make you work harder than you will for any other "art class" but you will the world completely differently once your though. She's the teacher you will tell your kids about.
Great prof, totally educational class - cant wait to use this material when I teach social studies! My notes, homeworks and outlines will be amazing resources. Prof understanding when I had an emergency, but knows **** when she sees it. FAIR, and NOT BORING!
this class totally works. no punishing exams, no memoriation - instead, she expect you to read, think, talk. do the work, focus, stay on it, you can get a B at the least - no need to have prior expertise, just stay on it. IF you have a brain, a B+ is attainable, and better if you can think outside the box and speak up a little
Women and Art history was one of the best classes I ever took. great discussions, and prof actually changed syllabus to reflect students' areas of interest! We visited two major museum exhibits, wrote reviews, read about lots of issues, and learned about a ton of artists! Easy to talk to, lenient on assignments, she gets it that we're all overworke
this is what college is all about. Ideas, opionions, challenging work. She helped me with readings, and in my research, I learned a ton.
i took her as one of my GenEd. class and it was horrible. if you are like me that does not have much intrest in art or history do not talk her. she makes you read bunch of pages(15-25), give you hw about the reading. when it is time to teach she is all over the place and talks about everything else but the work & major slacker!
awful teacher. assigns a ton of reading and work. her cec requirements are ridiculous. she's rude and unhelpful. also very vague and disorganized- changes the syllabus frequently and is unclear on assignments. also assigns presentations at last second for your final even though it was not in syllabus or even mentioned before. do not take her class!
Professor Davis is awesome! She assigns a lot of work/ reading but it is a readings in humanities and writing intensive course so you should expect that. She lets you redo any paper below a B- and she is super cool during discussions. Take her!!
This professor made Readings in Humanities interesting. My one complaint is that we covered a lot and that is not a complaint, b/c it wasn;t boring that way - but we often did not finish a topic before moving on. But that made things interesting - we did not stall out on a topic. Movies, books, essays, buildings - she mixed it up really well.
I do not recommend this professor. Was definitely as a transfer student not a good first class to have at this school with this professor and especially a 3 hr class.
Art History GENIUS! this professor teaches with PowerPoints full of helpful and cool images of works of art and posts them online. Lectures never boring, broken up with other activities. You need the book to review it for tests. I was able to hand in an assignment a week late and not get penalized after a car accident and
This professor was VERY helpful. semester was chaotic due to weather and she was as confused as we were at times about our schedule, but she made us all feel OK and accepted work late, etc. I learned a LOT and not just about art, but also about how to read better and study and take notes. in the classroom it felt OK to ask her to repeat or explain.
Davis is very knowledgeable and passionate about her subject. However, she is rude, inconsistent and hypocritical. She criticizes students for being late very harshly, and then shows up late herself. She takes forever to grade things. She interrupted students viciously during their term presentations to criticize them. I did well, but watch out!
This online class fit my schedule. It was great because although online, we spent 3 half days at a museum. so cool. Assignments were very well organized, and she often extended deadlines. You have to be ready to work every week and "Show up" for discussions and other HW but this was a great online class for the busy student. Easy B, A possible.
Although I usually hate group work, in this class, I worked well with others on quizzes and article analysis - she made it work. Deadline extensions are there if you ask and teacher takes feedback. Class is interesting and lectures really good. Readings outside of the textbook were good, since we really HAD to do them and talk about them in groups.
WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. Late for almost every class and then gets mad at you when your late more than twice. She will tell you that you can have a full page of notes for the final and then the day of the final tell you the notes are not allowed during the test.
Fun class. lots of discussion. Teacher is on your side. I felt like she was really rooting for me.
fair. respectful. FUNNY. at least I wasn't bored. But I had to do ALL the work to pull of a good grade.
Not at ALL boring. Do the work - this class has lots of small assignments, but no giant finals, no giant papers. You do learn a lot. Trips and other projects break up the lectures.
Doesn't allow free thinking, if you are analyzing text, you have to do it her way not yours. Worst professor I've ever encountered
Davis is funny, spontaneous, and never boring. She's not too organized or specific with the material, but the work load was pretty light. Books, Movies, TV shows; she mixes it up.
Class was not boring. Hard to keep up with smaller assignments, but I'd rather have my grade spread out over a bunch of stuff than ALL exams. tests fair and easy to prep for. She really helped me with my writing.
Very unorganized. She gave tons of homework that wasn't important to the class. She never did what she said she would. By this I mean, she said we can take our final online and she'll post it at 5:00. She didn't post it at 5:00. She doesn't explain what she wants on the homework or quizzes. Then she gets mad that you don't include what she wants.
She gave 5 assignments she would choose 2 at the day of the final. A student completed all 5. She then changed it that students pick any 2. In class student asked if they can hand all 5 as xtra credit. She said that's not fair to other students & asked them if that was ok. Students said he should get credit. She said no & will pick grade worst 2.
The worst professor I have ever encountered. Completely unorganized. Never received several tests back and she handed back all hw for the entire semester on the last day of class. She is unclear in what she wants for hw and gets angry when you don't give her what she wants. Oh and don't even think about emailing her a question, she hates that.
Good experience. Easy enough to do well if you did the work. This was an "extra" Class for me so it was a low priority. But I still pulled off a B+-- still, you cant miss ANY assignments. Dont be absent for group work or you get a zero.
She's non-specific in what she wants from assignments and gives way to much work for a useless class that no other class takes seriously. shes rude and doesn't know what she's talking about. don't take her class.
PRetty easy to do well: Show up, raise your hand, put in DECENT effort on the assignments. Assignmetns are frequent but not too hard. This prof takes this class seriously and will not respect you if you do not do the same. But if you are on your game and trying, you get a LOT of credit for that. You get some good habits that help you with college.
I took her for my FYS and I absolutely loved her. She definitely makes you work for your grade but she teaches you how to think your own thoughts instead of going for the generic answer. Her class could be boring at times but her energy makes it better. I would definitely take her again.
She can be a good professor at times but if you don't follow what's going on in class then your gonna fail. There is very little chances to make up grades with her and she rarely gives students second chances. With her it her way or the high way sometimes. Her lectures are good and length which is a good thing for this class.
In FYS, she made fun of her students. I was tricked by the title of the class. It should be called "New Jersey, Garbage, and the Meadowlands" because that's all we focused on. We had a project about garbage. She loves it. The grading system is whatever she's feeling. It can be a letter grade, a number, a 4/4, a checkmark system, or a vertical line.
She is really rude. She's very stubborn about her opinions and feels the need to express them outwardly. A student read her thesis in my class and she stopped her in front of the entire class and told her that no one knows what she's saying. Davis's persona can get irritating, but the class was fine. Assignments were spaced out. She graded fairly.
Professor Davis was very forgetful, strict, and condescending. There were several ocassions where she would reprimand students for tardiness only to be late often herself, and she would often falsely mark students as absent. She consistently interrupts students while they're speaking, and often considers her view the "true" view of things.
This was the most difficult class for me to keep up with. The readings AND homework needed for this class were never posted on time. The professor assigned so much homework last minute too. She was always late but she would yell and mark students late who did the same thing. Overall the class just felt unwelcoming and uncomfortable for me.
The professor was very unorganized and rude. Her homework assignments were sometimes unclear. It is difficult to be ahead in this class because she never posts assignments or tests when she says she will. Eventually, students fell behind because she fell behind posting the materials. If you dont need this class dont take it.
She is a great professor. She is funny and you can tell she relates to the students. There are readings to take notes on but the materials are interesting.
Prof. Davis is very unorganized, at least for this course being online. She will claim a due date, and wont follow through, change or expect the assignment be done earlier. Dont think of emailing her, or at least read the document she sends out the first day of class about how to approach her. She treats a 200 level course as if it is grad school.
She gave me a B- on my last paper because her feedback said she hated my opening paragraph. Unless you paper agrees with her own opinion she will not give it a higher grade even if you put a lot of work and time into it. She is also my advisor and talked more about how I did on my test than what classes to take. All in all a terrible professor 0/10
I took the bullet for you. I had Professor Davis for ARTH 245, my first and now last art history class at Ramapo College. She was extremely tough grading my work but will be very upfront about what she didn't like about it. Takes a long time to answer emails too. I would rather take 3 classes than take a 4th class with her.
Professor Davis is a great professor. Her classes are fun and the discussions are always interesting. The work is not overbearing and I did not have to dedicate a huge amount of time every week to do well in this class. Take her class if you can!
All tests are take home. repeat: all tests - and all deadlines are flexible if you need more time! But - DO THE WORK. Dont even THINK about texting in class. You easily get a B, and an A is within reach for anyone if you work for it. I learned so much about architecture, art, and history. I feel educated on a new level.
I am taking Museums Studies and I like the way it is run like a seminar. We choose research topics, follow our interests for some assignments. I've had health problems and she has been super understanding. I still have to do the work, but she removed the stress (and deadlines). We have interesting discussions and the readings have been good.
I found the class easy but I did not like prof. Davis. Super condescending and mocked me in front of the class for asking for clarification, literally laughed at me. She did this to other students too. Just overall bad vibe.
Very serious, caring professor - also fun at times. She explains the stakes - you don't feel like the tasks are pointless. Gives the serious students a LOT of slack - extensions and re-submit options - but if you are on your phone all class, and miss assignments all the time - GOOD LUCK PASSING.
The positive reviews read as if Davis wrote them herself. Davis is the most condescending professor I've ever had. She has no problem belittling her students for petty reasons whenever she gets the chance. Students in a GroupMe chat expressed that they were afraid to ask her questions. She never has a lesson plan, and often changes the syllabus.
I LOVED THIS CLASS!! Online texts and lots of videos make the learning easy - reading is assigned in "bite size" peices. Prof gives extensions on deadlines if you just ask... there is work but she is very forgiving when life gets in the way. Class flies by because the material is cool and her lectures really link to things happening today.
I got a high grade -prof very supportive. She gave me an extension on one big assignment. Also there was an extra credit assignment. Material was COOL and classes half discussion based so time went quickly. Take the IMPRESSIONISM class! she lets you do art projects for final project instead of paper!
Made the fatal mistake of signing up for her "first year seminar" course my first semester at Ramapo. Genuinely made me hate myself for picking this course due to me having to deal with her condescending nature and lack of respect for any of the students. I would give her a 0 if possible.
The subject matter was "American Art History Since 1940" which was actually interesting at times. This professor is quite disrespectful at times, and tends to be condescending to her students. Also very unorganized, and would get mad if I got situated and went to the restroom before or during class. Her teaching is not the issue, it's the attitude.
She openly makes fun of students with disabilities and anyone who is a minority, yet claims to be this wonderful, kind, and inviting person, but everyone is terrified of her. Some students leave class midway to cry! There have been numerous student complaints regarding her rude demeanor and attitude toward students, many of which are neurodivergent
beyond unprofessional, beyond rude, shouldn't be a teacher. that's all imma say.
Professor Davis is what you don't want in a professor. She stands there in class and twiddles with her hair and goes on long tangents totally unrelated to the subject. Loves talking politics in class. Truthfully, just overall she's a condescending brat in the worst way possible and everything must be done her way or don't expect a passing grade
belittles peoples intelligence constantly and often make fun of students in class. doesn't know how to teach or communicate and is overall a person this world would be better without tbh
I have more to say lol. She failed a student over disliking a student and made the whole class aware by mocking them in front of the class. She is genuinely oblivious to how she acts and how her awful attitude affects students. People are genuinely scared of her and the class has a groupme where everyone expresses their fear and discontent of her
Meredith Davis is rude, beyond discriminatory to disabled students, would make students cry mid-class, mocks students in front of everyone, has a short and snippy attitude, and belittles students' intelligence. I can't believe this woman still has a job. I have never felt so belittled and undermined by a professor in my four years of college.
Condescending at times. the class is gen ed yet she acts like anyone actually cares about anything she talking about. no tech. mandatory museum trip is kinda unneccesery especially if you have better things to do like make money or relax on the weekend. work and tests are just so unneccary. she genuienly yaps and yaps about the smallest things. bad
I never understood everyone's issue with her, I think she's great! Never was a history person, let alone art history, until I had her. She gave me my personal philosophy and is so educated on everything she talks about! However, VERY tough grader and takes up the entire class to talk about one thing. But she keeps it interesting! I like her!
Never felt more uncomfortable and targeted in a classroom. Despite being consistently engaged, completing assignments on time, and performing well on major projects and exams, I was repeatedly singled out without reason. Chastised for taking notes with laptop. Material was interesting, but the learning environment was emotionally draining and toxic
I took this for a requirement and was not psyched but it was great, with projects like a social media post writing assignment and a museum visit that counted for TWO class sessions. The midterm was not easy but also no surprises. The prof gave me an extension on one assignment no questions asked. Easy-ish A-
I took the Museums history class for a requirement. The 2 museum visits were great and she was pretty flexible with deadlines and let me re-do one assignment. Also, She cancelled one assignment because she could see that we were so done with school and we just revised instead which was actually better. That said, standards were pretty high.
She is one of the hardest graders I've ever met since going to ramapo. Wouldn't take again.
THis prof was so flexible and understanding about deadlines. Also, I appreciated that she didn;t make us wrote pointessly ong papers, and that exams were take-home /open book. I think she cared a lot more about us learning then traying to put us through the ringer. we also got to give input on one of the assignments which was a relief.
Deadlines are flexible, and exams are open book. Her standards are high, but I know she let one student who bombed completely re-do the midterm, so she will help you out if you need, and the lectures were funny and expert.
This professor actually let me re-take the midterm. No joke. I was a mess and completely bombed and she reached out to see what was up and let me do the questions I had left blank like a week later, and only took off a point on each. So human.
