She is a great teacher!!!! If you want to pass the class with an A then her class is the right class for you!!!:) The only problem you could possibly face is that if you dont like geography then don't take the class, the subject will bore you!!!:( But she is an oustanding teacher!!!!!:)
Excellent personality, very excited to teach fun to talk to, nice and talks in the same level. classes are mostly lectures so there is not a lot of veriaty and tests can be hard. but she gives extra credit and you can get 10 pts back by going to tutoring. if you want to get an A you want have a problem to get it plus she is really nice and patient
This was the best class I had all semester and I had absulutely no interest in Geography. She was so helpful and clear, and soooooo sweet! I really enjoyed learning from her. If you want to gety an A and learn something profound take her class!
She's a nice person and her class is interesting. Study for her tests - they are harder than you think - but fair.
Very cool teacher. The tests are pretty easy if you ask me, but for some reason there still very few A's. She gives reviews of the exact questions on the tests. People just don't study. Who would of thought you needed to do that. Also, lots of extra credit, and chances to makeup test points. Great sense of humor. Highly recommend:D
Very good teacher and really helpfull if you're not doing too well. Lots of extra credit. Tests are hard, just study what she puts on the study guide and come to class because she is amazing at explaining the material really well. She is lenient about grading too...I failed the first 2 tests and got an 'A' on the final and got a 'B' in the class.
SHE IS THE BEST!
easy A really
easy A. verry cool, friendly and helpful. 3 tests. tests are all from lectures. lots of extra credit work. no big assignments, no hw. humorus also. STRONGLY RECOMEND
I enjoyed her class very much. Material was really interesting. She was helpful. Test questions come right off the study guides, studying is key for an A. Lots of extra credit opportunities. She is very flexible and will work with her students schedules to help them succeed in class.
Really Great teacher. Helpful and attentive with her students. Just keep up with the class and EASY A !!
Professor Leonard is not only friendly, caring, flexible, but knows the material extremely well. She tries to compromise with students and gives out many extra credit assignments. She really encourages students to involve in current environmental issues (since we have many topics lately such as global warming). Don't take advantage of her kindness
shes sweet..tests are from study guides...she does give lots of extra credit opportunites BUT they arent close...alot of the ec you had were kind of far im talking about umm 1 hour to maybe 2 hours away...im still in the class, and honestly its not my fav. subject im not so into it but she makes it interesting and you wanna know about it!
GREAT TEACHER. VERY NICE. DON'T GET ON HER BAD SIDE OR TAKE ADVANTAGE OF HER KINDNESS. SMART, FUN, BUT NOT STUPID. VERY GENEROUS AND REASONABLE WITH EVERYTHING. IF ONLY ALL TEACHERS WHERE LIKE HER.
Great teacher with a great attitude. It's a pretty laid back atmosphere but remember that it's still a class and that at the end you will receive a grade. Just come to class, be attentive and HAND IN YOUR ASSIGNMENTS.(There aren't many so just do them.) Aside from that, enjoy your time with her. It'll be fun.
She's real chill, and she makes you wanna get involved in environmental issues. She makes saving the environment seem like an easy task. Shows you how one person can make a big difference. She got me to start an environmental club and she's my advisor. She took us to a lot of real good field trips where i made great networking connections. Good
WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL Instructor. You learn a lot and makes it stress free. A lot of extra credit and only 3 test. Thank you Prof. Leonard your an ANGEL...wish there were more prof. like you.
great
At first Ms. Leonard seems kind of cold and aloof. However, once you get to know her she can be really funny (in a dry sense of humor way). She is very clear and more than fair with her students. She gives you chances to improve your grade by allowing extra credit assignments. I learned alot in her class and I would take her again in a second!
Good teacher. Gives chances to make up lost points.
She's very helpful and very clear in her lectures. There is a lot of study materials for this class but as long as you take good notes and come to class, it's an easy A.
Professor Leonard is just a straight out teacher. As long as you do what is expected, you'll get an A. Her tests questions are pulled off straight from her study guides. She's really great. Highly recommend.
Professor Leonard is extremely knowledgable in her field. Her expertise of the ARCGIS program is astounding. She always knows how to fix the kinks in the program and her lectures are so fun.
She is a great teacher who cares about the students. She loves teaching Env Sci. Her lectures would go off subject sometimes in our evening class Spring 08. She had fun So did I. Her lectures are clear and informative. The tests are fairly easy and graded on a curve. Scantron needed. Study guides for each test. I highly recommend her.
Environmental Science 101. Lots extra credit opportunities. Almost no homework. Study guides very similar to test. Interesting lecture. Take it.
GREAT, FUN CLASS. SHES VERY NICE FUNNY AND HELPFUL. IM GLAD I TOOK THE CLASS. STUDY GUIDES ARE EXTREMELY HELPFUL TO PASS THE TESTS. TEXTBOOK USE IS A MUST. DONT SKIP CLASS OR YOULL MISS ALOT OF INFO. MANY XTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES. GREAT CLASS YOU WONT REGRET TAKING HER.
Excellent, excellent teacher! It is so refreshing to have a teacher that is actually passionate about the subject and actually wants her students to flourish. I learned so much from her and she got me really excited about the subject. Really interesting discussions, helpful study guides, and fair and easy tests. Please take this class!
She grades unfair her test banks are not even helpful at all! Don't even bother taking her take the class with someone else you will do yourself a favor.
Great professor and completely fair grading. The person who wrote the review before mine is probably just a lazy ass expecting easy A's in COLLEGE! Take her if you want a passionate, fair and clear professor, and if you want to have fun while learning.
Don't take this prof. she favors students. If she doesn't like you she treats you different.
Awesome, awesome teacher. I loved her class and would take it again for sure! She knows what she is talking about, is totally fair and and easy grader. She is great
SHE TEACHES OK, SHE GIVES YOU STUDY GUIDES BUT NOT EVERYTHING IS ON THE TEST SHE LOOKS FOR SPECIFIC THING FROM THE BOOK. yOU HAVE TO WRITE 2 PAPERS ONE IS ON A FIELD TRIP THAT YOU HAVE TO GO ON YOUR OWN N THE OTHER IS AN INTERVIEW. SHE GAVE ME A "C" INSTEAD OF A "B" AND I DID GOOD ON HER TEST N QUIZZES I EVEN DID HER SUSTAINABLE WORKS PROGRAM N EXT
very passionate about subject. class is never boring. assignments are interesting and not very hard. easy grader. im suprised she has no pepper! definetly MY type. hehe :)
She is not that good of a professor. She knows the subject well but cant teach it!!! Her exams are very hard for the most part but I must say the study guides are somewhat helpful. Not very organized. Easy Grader on assignments but not exams. Reviews before the test but that does not help that much. I got a "C".
I hated coming to class just so I would not have to hear her talk. She was a horrible professor but kind of nice. There are quizzes, 2 exams, and a project. She was so boring. She was really not a good professor & couldn't teach.
I disagree with the one rating before mine. She was exremely passionate about teaching this subject and really wanted students to pass but I have to admit the class was kind of hard but she tried to make it easier. She was very passionate about the subject the only problem I had coming to class was that it was really sad to learn this subjhect.
I hated this class so much because there was so much studying that we had to do. The lectures did not help on the tests at all but the study guides did a little. Tough grader on assignments. Alhtough her lectures dont help on the tests she is great at teaching the material she teaches.
One of the best classes I have ever taken at Valley College. I took her for ES1 and ES22. She gave me a "C" in ES 1 and an "A" in ES 22. She is a great lecturer and she really cares about the topic. Also, she really cares about her students. You do have to do a lot of studying but it is worth it because her lectures are phenomenal. Highly reccomend
I would have to give her a C- for her over all performance. Although she does teach the material well, with endless amounts of paperwork and butt loads of assignment she makes the class more of a pain in the ass than it should be. It wasn't difficult to pass, but I calculated my grade and I had 89% and got a B, come on!
DON'T REALLY KNOW WHAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT, BUT SHE IS GREAT TEACHER, EASY CLASS, LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT. SHE CARES ABOUT THE TOPIC. EASY TESTS. LOTS OF MOVIES AND VIDEOS. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT FOR YOUR SCIENCE REQUIREMENT, EASY A.
You must study for this class like crazy and you must do the tests. She loves to give extra credit and really cool assignments. You must be willing to study to get an A or a B in this class because it is a lot of material in a very short amount of time. Highly recommended professor. Very passionate.
Pros: Quizzes are take-home, offers a lot of extra credit, and introduced the class to CK Lewis (I am forever in your debt). Cons: Ignorant, patronizing, sloppy teaching style. Knows what she's talking about but doesn't care to share with the rest of the class. I really hated her class (though I loved the subject) and dropped out halfway through.
Easy class. Lots of group work (so make sure you sit with smart people!) Lots of frivolous homework so just stay on top of things. Lots of videos. She does not lecture much, and when she does it can be unclear. 99% is right out of the book. The tests are made from all the quizzes you do in groups. Look over quizzes before tests but no need to study
I liked this class so much I changed my major. Gives extra credit that is easy and gives quizzes a head of time to work on and the help you prepare for the tests. She always answers e-mails promptly. By far, one of my favorite teachers at LAVC. I learned a lot and am always enlightening my friends with it. Lucky them!
Shes kinda nice!! The class is not that easy u have to read the book a couple times and the tests and quiz are hard. She shows lots of veidos in class. Do all your work and show up to class and u would be fine!!
Fun class. Lean a lot about the environment. Easy class. Read the chapters. Take good notes. Go to the review sessions and study the quizes.
I have no idea why anyone would call this class remotely difficult and I'm a lazy ****. She gives review quizzes right before the test AND goes over the answers in afterschool class tutoring sessions. There's barely any hw and her tests are based off the quizzes. Just read the book- surely that's not too much to ask.
Professor Leonardo was an amazing instructor. The class was relatively easy with little homework and lots of extra credit opportunities. We reviewed for each test so anyone complaining of a low grade simply did not take advantage of the tutoring lab review sessions. Very sarcastic and slightly witty, all around nice professor. Take her class!
shes very sacastic but nice. her class is fairly easy, tests are so easy because she gives you the whole thing ahead of time so you know exactly the questions! take advantage of the extra credit and u must have a textbook!
All here review quizzes are the exact answers as the test so you just have to study those. lots of e/c opportunities, the only criticism i would give is that the exams cover wayyyy to much material. they should be broken up into smaller tests because there are only 3 exams all semester so you have to memorize about 2 months of information per test
Best teacher ever! Her meteorology class is tons of fun, the things you learn are unbelievable. It is an interesting class as it is, and she makes it that much better. Learn to catch, and appreciate her wit, humor, and sarcasm! She's so awesome!
Professor Leonard is an awesome professor who obviously enjoys teaching her subjects. She adds relevant experiences from her life to the lecture. Extra credit is given liberally and it always relates to the class material. Take any class that she is teaching.
Class was pretty straight forward. Watched a few interesting videos. but when she lectures i want to fall asleep. she just drones on and on! for her tests, just memorize the quizzes and you should be fine. you don't need the book at all, i didn't even open it once. jet memorize her quizzes and you'll be fine.
Prof. Leonard isn't the miserable, old cat lady other posters make her out to be. She's actually very nice and knows what she's talking about. Her lectures do help you understand the material more, and she even has study guides (quizzes) online to help you for the exams. Leonard is really passionate about geog & env sci and cares about her students
Have your book, outline your chapters in the book. Stay focused on Test day. Make sure when you sit at a table, that table that you are sitting will wind up being the group work with. This teacher on test day will before the test distract you with films and video and will
She has cold humor but I like it. Easy class if you study her quizes, same questions in the exams. Do extra credit, it'll help out.
Very interesting class.Friendly teacher.Book is required. Gives quizes before test. Study quiz and you'll be fine. Extra Credit is given throughout class.Overall, good class!
good teacher just study the quizes and youll be fine study study study only way to get a good grade
She is a great teacher. Dry sarcastic sense of humor, passionate about the subject. The tests are not hard as long as you have read and studied her study guide. Drops lowest test and assignment scores. She makes herself available to her students and gives plenty of extra credit oppurtunities. Loved her class!
She never seemed to be in a good mood but who cares, she knows how to teach. Study hard for the tests and you will be fine.
Must purcahse an online code and read book!! Dry sarcasm, but when approached is very easy to talk to. Nice, if you try. Is not an easy class, but grades on a curve. Good, if you try.
Very unorganized professor also very moody and rude. She hardly lectured in class and made the class do presentations instead and used the presentations as lectures for each chapter. Overall not that great of a professor, but gives a lot of extra credit
I took this class as a biology major and ended up switching majors to environmental science afterwards. Prof. Leonard is passionate about what she teaches and is a great professor. Her tests are hard, but multiple choice. She offers online notes. You must read the book to pass this class!
Love her! Chill class, but not for lazy students. Grades based on points earned, so take advantage of extra credit early! Biggest points: water audit (takes time & effort), notebook (collected after final) & final. Got my A by going to every class, taking excellent notes, & turning in all assignments. Final is open notes & easy if you are organized
Inspiring, passionate, dedicated & simplifies material. Lots of info & not for lazy students. No final, but 3 challenging multiple choice tests (A-E) & 1 essay. Earned my A by reading the chapters before class, taking excellent notes, participating, doing all assignments, going to office visits, doing extra credit, studying & rereading the chapters
Very interesting class. She is very knowledgeable and can definitely teach the material. Her quiz's are online, test are a bit hard, read the book and class notes and you'll do fine. take advantage of the extra credit, don't wait until the last minute to turn it in. She's a bit corky funny, over all i would recommend her.
She is very INTERESTING and passionate about her subject. You will not be bored and she will change your life, take her and you'll see what I'm talking about.
Professor Leonard is an amazing instructor! If you want to take Environmental Science you should definitely take this class with her! She's really sarcastic but funny and she understands the subject really well. She gives a lot of extra credit so take advantage of them because her tests are hard and you need to study for them. Overall best class!
She makes learning very easy!
Very nice person and interested in the subject. Never had a clue where I was in the class. Her website is the only part of the class that had any semblance of organization. Many of the assignments seemed to be time fillers at best. The tests included many vague questions. Must rely on classmates in group projects so sit next to smart people.
Prof. Leonard is favorite teacher at Valley. If you have to take ES, take it with her, as she is clear, concise, and heavily knowledgeable/interested in the subject matter. Because of her, I am considering majoring in Env. Studies. You must use/buy book to pass the class. Lenient about due dates, but not an easy grader.
Nice, but kinda crazy. Tries too hard. Our class never answered her questions so she'd give up and let us out early. About a month behind on the syllabus and she still expects us to get through everything. Basically, she's not awful but i would not take her again.
wonderful teacher! she is very funny and she makes time for all of her students
Unorganized and would literally ask is what we wanted to do that day. We watched way too many videos and had to teach each other the material in the book via presentations.
Unorganized, shows to many videos, is very sarcastic making it difficult for one to understand. You have to read the book to pass her exams.
I have no idea how some people find her interesting or easy. The class made me feel miserable. She is very sarcastic so don't even try to answer her questions she will make fun of you. Her test are outrageous, lectures are youtube videos, she is always late, very disorganized. I have nothing personal against her, but she is not a good teacher.
Don't expect an easy A. You have to put the effort in to get your grade. Not extremely hard. She's very sarcastic so, don't take it to offense. Has extra credit opportunities.
I think reviewers are too tough on Professor Leonard. It's college, people. Putting in work and exerting your brain in a class in expected. I really enjoyed the class and learned a lot. If you're looking for an easy A, this isn't for you. She is, however, the most sarcastic person I have ever met in my life.
Prof. Leonard is just awesome! She knows her materials very well. Her lectures and class materials are fun to learn if you decided to pay attention. Also, she dedicates her weekend and time for students as long as you need help with class materials. She is just there for you. Textbook is a must-read to do well on her exams :)
Prof. Leonard is clear cut with her instructions. The tests are incredibly easy. Honestly, I was on my phone for the majority of the class and still got an A. Yes, she's sarcastic, but if you haven't encountered sarcasm yet then I worry for you. The only thing that kind of got me about her is that she was perpetually late.
A science teacher who knows her stuff, and I enjoyed her sarcastic sense of humor. I didn't ace every test, but I did all the homework, participated in class discussion, and still got the grade I wanted. She offers TONS of extra credit, but most students didn't take advantage, or do the assigned Pearson homework (counts huge)! TEXTBOOK NEEDED!
Very Sarcastic (which is fine but not when you are teaching environmental science). She makes you buy the $160 textbook and makes you pay $70 for an online service where you have to take quizzes that are crucial for you passing the class. Not worth it, especially with a teacher who seems to lack passion for the material.
love her!!! she is so understanding and has a funny sarcastic sense of humor :) she lets us be creative in our projects as well
Taking Prof. Leonard was a blast. She's very understanding, and has a very sarcastic sense of humor, which can seem different at first but it grows on you. Textbook is mandatory; You need the online code for the Pearson site. There is a group presentation that you work on over a few weeks.
3 big tests. Each one is 50 Qs, and an easy in class essay each test. Before each test, youll have to complete 3-4 online quizzes at home through Pearson. Each online quiz takes longer than 2 hours. She also has a website you must keep track of, also provides study guides for each chapter thatll be on test. LOTS OF extra credit & WORK but worth it
Do not take her class, she is very unorganized. She gives extra credits but they are not worth that much credit. She is so boring and most sarcastic. Don't ask her any questions because she will make you regret it. Waste of time and money!
I thought I would love this subject but this class is too advanced for me I felt clueless half the time. A text book is required. You have to pay for these online quizzes ($60-$70) which is BS. Gives a lot of Extra Credit. Shows videos in class. Gives a ton of Assignments I could hardly keep up. And there is a group project. I dropped out halfway.
Great class! I came out with a real passion for the planet. She's passionate about the subject and gives you all the resources to fuel a passion of your own. However she can be a bit condescending if you ask a 'dumb question', even though she said/wrote on the board on the first day "No question is a dumb question."LOL. A lot of group projects too
She does know her stuff but she is very unorganized. I initially was interested in the subject although it is a required class there is a lot of homework on the Pearson site that you have to buy. A lot of material to know. She doesn't give back exams , you have to visit her during office hrs. which doesn't always work out if you work. Discouraging
Great teacher. Sometimes underexplains and relies on you to read the chapters. Everything on quizzes and tests are covered or in the book, there are no questions from material not covered. Plenty of extra credit opportunities, I only did one. I finished with a very high B and she said expect that grade but boosted me to an A. Would recommend.
Professor Leonard is an amazing Professor. She really cares about the subject and that students are learning. The homework is minimal and there are a couple of projects that you complete outside of class. Go to her office hours and get feedback and help when you need it. By far the best science class I have taken and can't wait to do the lab class.
She seems very knowledgeable and passionate in her field, but she's not the greatest teacher. She was very unorganized throughout the class and couldn't even provide us with a syllabus showing what would be done for the class. She and the entire class was lost on what to do everyday. In the end she only graded 3 assignments and the final.
Best teacher. I missed a few quizzes online (legitamately got zeros on them) and I ended up with an A plus because I showed up and showed that I cared. She understand that people make mistakes and takes that into consideration. Overall amazing teacher with a super great sense of humor.
She had a syllabus that was pretty vague, closed book/note/partner quizzes, yet open book/note/partner tests. She often times will quiz on videos and things of the sort off her website (which hasn't been updated in lord knows how long). I never knew where we were in the class or where we were going but if you read the chapters its easy to pass.
I enjoyed this class! Prof. Leonard knows her subject. Easy A so long as you attend class (there are some in-class assignments), take notes, and don't snooze on the take-home open book quizzes. There is one group project, and the tests are kinda tricky-but if you do what you're supposed to do, you'll be fine. Take Prof. Leonard :)
Meredith Leonard was my favorite professor at LAVC, I had her for Environmental Science lab, and I found her to be helpful and accessible outside of class as well. She gave me great feedback, advice and a reference to the university which I transferred to. I really learned a lot from the water project we did throughout the semester.
Overall great prof. She cares, amazing lectures, and participation matters. She is kind and easy to talk to. She knows her stuff and knows what the students are going through. Take this professor. Seriously!!!
Professor Leonard is by far the best instructor here at Valley! She offers plenty of extra credit, she helps you during her office hours, and always replies to her emails if you need help. Textbook is needed to pass the class and thats where majority of her test answers are. Lectures are very inspiring, compassionate and knowledgeable!
I am very used to having a syllabus outline all my due dates from the first day, whether It is an online class or not. This class did not provide that and felt very unorganized. She will post an assignment due based on her own version of the lecture and long documentaries. I feel I wasted money renting the book. I wish It was more organized.
Shes an average professor with a boring useless lecture. You need the textbook for the test. Theres no need to go to class if you read the chapters. The only reason to go to class is for those in class assignments that eventually add up. Overall, her class is boring and her lectures are useless but its an easy class to pass if you do her work.
Professor Leonards is very knowledgable and gives many outside resources to understand the lecture better, many opportunities for extra credit and exam retakes (open note, open book, open neighbor) She does not update canvas but will give it to you during office hours. Also, the exam is basically the study guide. Not an easy A but definitely doable
This was an easy class. I didn't buy the book, I used the copy from the library every time I had to do the homework. She takes a long time to grade the assignments. The quizzes are really easy. There is no excuse to not get an A. I took this class online, and all I had to do was to sign in once per week, do the homework and I was done.
I dont remember much of the class bc I took it last spring but I did well so I am taking her again for ENVSCI22. What I can say is that shes a very nice lady. She is caring, patient, and accessible. There wasnt a lot of grading criteria but unsure if this was due to her hospitalization or if this is usual. Lots of quizzes and some discussions.
Fabulous Professor She really knows her stuff and she makes you think about the environment and how important it is to be aware and to try and be part of the solution. She is also very easy to talk to and wants to see her students do well
Professor Leonard is a very kind and understanding professor who knows her material well. I really enjoyed her class and it was pretty straightforward.
took her late start class (8 weeks) and the workload was not that much! very easy class and nice professor too.
There are barely any assignments so far, but the "fill-in" the blank questions are quite difficult if all bundled under one question. You have many retries and unlimited time for the quizzes. Do well on the tests and you will have an A.
You will learn a lot about many different things, whether its about our environmental hazards or the incredibly massive scale on which coal production takes place. It was very fun learning along with Professor Leonard this semester and I hope that other students have a similar experience as I did.
Amazing super chill professor, she gives quizzes weekly but they are not difficult, and she allows three tries. She opens up quizzes from the past incase you want to re-do. I recommend taking this course with this professor!
Great professor. Really easy class, and weekly quizzes aren't difficult. Pretty chill class. I recommend taking her for an easy A.
Clearly a passionate teacher but needs a refreshing on how to be a good teacher.... Class is too easy, there is nothing to learn it's all common sense. Makes it difficult to work on your own (tries to force group work but most people are doing poor work..). Never grades anything. When she does grade she isn't even looking at the WORK.
Took the 8-week fully online ENV SCI 001 course. She posts plenty of notes for a quiz once a week, which you can take up to four times. Occasional homework assignments too but nothing heavy. Easy A, but if you want to learn something I recommend going through the book and her lecture notes. Very nice and is respectful to her students as well.
The 8-week ENV SCI class only had 10 quizzes to complete with about 15-25 questions each test. The tests were really easy and all of it could be found online. If you want a light class with not a lot of work and something that doesn't take much time take this class. She also extended the due dates so people have time to complete it.
Super easy online class and all the material was online! No textbook needed. The professor was very fast on grading and 10/10 would take again.
Choose your classmates wisely for group work...
She was such a cool professor I always looked forward to attending the class. What I learned was to make sure to choose people you talk or want to get to know in the class because there are group projects the final was a presentation and my partner flaked and I did all the work (it was easy)& had to present alone but still passed the class with an A
Professor Leonard has lots of articles that are connected to the homework she gives. She also includes videos and fill-in-the-blanks as homework which was very easy! I learned a lot about the Earth from this class!
Professor Leonard's class was my absolute favorite at Valley. She allows for interesting and engaging discussions and really just wants to help you understand our environment better. A very fun and laidback class as well, just make sure you sit with a good group for the projects and in-class assignments.
Clearly wants students to succeed and gives large turn in window. Even checked up on me when mid-semester I fell extremely ill and failed to turn in work. Material is not hard, but quite a bit of reading and watching of documentaries/clips involved. Don't proscratinate. Gives multiple chances to pass quizzes. Only way you could fail is by slacking.
She's really understanding and always gives a little buffer time after the due date. If something happens you can send her an email and she almost always responds promptly
The course is very test-heavy, and grades are based almost entirely on quizzes. Because the quizzes are difficult, even doing reasonably well on one can still cause a noticeable drop in the overall grade.
