At the beginning of the semester I didn't go to class very often, but because attendance is part of the grade, my grade went down a lot. She had a mandatory one on one meeting with her during class time and she really showed me that she cared about my success. We went over all the extra credit opportunities.
I LOVED and THOROUGHLY enjoyed this class. Professor Calder is a pretty unconventional teacher, but so GOOD. Daily journal assignments related to news worthy topics, 5-6 papers scattered throughout the semester, and one final project. She gives out extra credit and responds to canvas quickly. TAKE HER CLASS.
At the beginning of the class gives you daily journal assignments to deal with social issues. And also, almost every class makes a group time that you share your writing and toss around your own opinions. She takes care class a lot and always tries to hear students' opinions. You will have many opportunities to get extra credits very easily.
Professor Calder is a fantastic teacher. I learned more about English in this class than in any of my high school classes. Her expectations are clear and she is very willing to help you when you have questions. It's obvious and appreciated that she teaches students, not lessons. I walked away from her class with a greater appreciation for writing.
I have never been a fan of English, but she makes it better! Show up to class and just follow directions. Her assignments are fairly easy and she's an easy grader if you put the effort in. There are many easy opportunities for extra credit so take advantage of them for an easy A! Great professor!
Professor Calder is the best English Teacher I've had. She has really good writing exercises and teaches you how to think critically and deeply. Other professors teach you how to write a paper, Calder teaches you how to write.
I really like that she was able to work with my business schedule and willing to help me with my grades!
Participation and doing what is expected of you is important in any class. This class isn't too bad if you just put the time and work into it. There was more extra credit opportunities than I had anticipated, so that was awesome. Be responsible and you'll be fine.
Professor Calder is great, she is helpful and passionate about English. Best of all she listens to her class. A few times she pushed a due date back on an assignment due to the class needs. All she needed was a well worded argument. (that's what the class is about anyways). She grades easy as long as you FOLLOW THE CRITERIA.
Professor Calder was great. She grades fairly and offers extra credit, so as long as you go to class and do the work and follow the criteria. you'll get a good grade. Attendance and coming prepared matters, especially in peer reviews. Overall this class was fantastic.
Professor Calder is an amazing English Professor. We work on one paper the entire semester and she has a marketing background which makes everything in class more applicable to the real world. She's amazing and so attentive to every individual.
Great Professor, she really cares about your success. Paper heavy, but its an English class, duh.
Professor Calder is pretty great! She's caring and understanding as a person and cares about the success of her students. Obviously there's lots of paper writing, it's an english class, but it's mostly very useful. We wrote on one topic of our choice all semester and all the papers lead up to the final one. She also offers lots of extra creadit!
She was a very good professor. Really cared about your success. Did expect you to be prepared for every class. Very important that you don't miss to many classes.
Took this class to finish off my english courses and I was nervous at first with the amount of papers but with the way she teaches you get really good at writing and critically thinking about your assignments rather than just getting them done.
Genuinely cares about teaching and is willing to work with you.
Follow the criteria!
Attendance counts towards your grade. Ms. Calder gives you many opportunities to gain extra credit (up to 100 points). That helps a lot! She appreciates in-class participation and is always willing to stay after class to answer questions. She also makes you keep a free writing journal. We wrote almost every class about a video of her choice.
This professor was awesome. She's so kind and the class is well organized. This class made me to improve my writing skills.
Honestly, my writing wasn't that perfect until I took the class with her. I'd say It's very helpful and I really enjoyed it because she totally knows how to make it easier than you think. She gives good strategies and important criteria that lead you to analyze better and writing perfect papers. She's one of the most considerate people. Recommended
She is a really great professor as long as you do the work if you slack off. Attendance is mandatory but you'll find yourself challenged each class since she starts off with a video and quotes to make you think, they truly did change our perspective of the world around us and challenged us to think about topics we normally don't think about.
She is a wonderful teacher. She honestly wants you to learn and be more prepared for future course. She gives great feedback and always provides interesting topics for us to discuss in class.
Professor Calder is seriously so awesome. English in general is so hard for me. She breaks it down and teaches you step by step of what she wants and how things should be done in the class. She's an awesome teacher. Super funny and keeps you interested. Just go to class and turn things in ON TIME and you should do just fine.
Professor was an amazing teacher and cared a lot for her student!
no comment other than she had this review as an extra credit assignment
Really enjoyed this class
Professor Calder was awesome. I took English 2010 with her, she explained assignments clearly and is a fare grader. Know that this class does require your best effort. Follow the rubric and requirements for each assignment to the T!
Professor Calder is amazing because she gives very good feedback, and she wants her students to succeed. I think she is my favorite English professor because I had to earn my grade. You can get as much as 100 points extra credit, which is 10% of your grade. Please choose her class if you want to get a good grade and learn some important skills.
She is very nice, but she almost seems confused with what her expectations are for assignments so it is difficult to meet those expectations. There is a lot of busywork, and her assignments are often unclear and way longer than necessary.
At first, I thought that having class by Livestream was going to be a problem for me. But it turns out it was ok not good but ok but I still rather have it in person. The only problem was that I wish we had more Livestream.
She is an amazing teacher. The more you put into the class, the more you get out of it. I learned a ton, and would love to take her as a professor over any professor.
This Professor was great, do not take her class lightly though. You will for sure walk away from her class a better human being, not just a better student. She was so amazing, I would most definitely recommend to all of my closest friends and family. She is worth the effort.
Professor Calder is an amazing english professor. I took her English 2010 class fall semester 2020, and absolutely loved it. My class was a hybrid class, so we only had zoom class once a week. The rest was on our own. There are several different writing assignments, and text book reading, but they are all easy. She gives so much extra credit !!!
Just took this class fall of 2020 and you should expect one live steaming session a week, at least that is what we had. Prof. Calder holds discussions and often splits you up into smaller groups to allow everyone the chance to share. She is a grader and does not edit. Just follow the criteria and you will succeed.
She is tough but fair and will help you achieve what you need to.
Professor Calder is a great teacher and you will learn a lot taking her class. She expects a lot from you and is a tough grader. She does offer many extra credit opportunities. This is the class to take if you want to learn and you are willing to work hard.
Professor Calder really cares that you do well in her class and is obviously passionate about what she teaches. At times the workload can be heavy, but she gives great feedback. She does really well at helping you out in any way that she can and is quick to answer any questions.
Meridee is well organized! All assignments/ readings done helped lead to your success for the final projects. When on livestream classes, Meridee taught us about relevant issues that helped change our perspective. You can tell she cares about her students because she responds very promptly and gives excellent feed back to her students!
Professor Calder's class is focused on making you a better writer. Every assignment, and chapter, and class is focused on it. She is focused on each student and their progress.
Just stay on top of things and you'll pss this class! Professor Calder really cares about her students and teaching, I've learned a lot from her and made me appreciate writing than when I started out. You won't regret taking this class!
She is a great teacher, cares about students but expects you to perform well.
lots of work for little points so make sure you do all your homework because it adds up.
I class can be hard but it Prof. Calder teachers it well.
Hard on hw but she gives good feedback.
Good professor.
Really nice professor. The class is just a lot of tedious assignments for credit. If you don't do them you won't pass. You spend the whole semester working on one paper, which is fine, but gets a little old at the end. She is a great professor, but don't sign up for this class thinking it will be a breeze.
She is super good about giving more guidance if you are struggling to understand criteria and also responds back to emails within a day.
Professor Calder is a really great professor. I hadn't taken an english class in 3 years and was worried! She answers emails within a day and is so helpful. My class was livestream and we only meant one time a week even though it was a Tu/Thu class. The thursday time was where we could meet with her one on one. All assignments help with final paper
The best english teacher I have ever had. The class is not overwhelming, and I never felt like anything we did was just busy work. Every assignment in the whole class helps you write your final paper. If you put in good effort, you will do well in the class. She also offers many opportunities for extra credit. Take Professor Calder!
I absolutely loved this class. I've always liked English, but this professor made me see everything in a new light! She was kind and respectful. She also offered many extra credit opportunities. I felt safe in her class setting, and I knew if I did the work I would get the grade I want. If you want to take an English class, then take her!
Ms. Calder helped me a lot after she saw I was having difficulties in the course. She is a great teacher. I learned a lot from her.
You should 100% take this class from Prof. Calder! She works to make each assignment & class period engaging & thought-provoking. You will become a better writer & critical thinker in this class. Strict on attendance, but lots of ex. cred. offered. Sounds strict on deadlines, but is flexible if you reach out. Topic used all semester, so pick wisely
I thought Professor Calder was great. She cared about the subject and is very personable. If it's online there will be a lot of break out rooms/peer reviews but they were all helpful. You choose the same topic all semester (all of your papers help prepare your final paper it was pretty easy). Do extra credit, attend class, and show your camera.
Meridee was an overall great professor! She made the class very enjoyable and always gave the best feedback to enhance your writing. One thing to note is participation matters, as it should! Her lectures were always very insightful and interesting. I highly recommend taking a class with her. The work load was very moderate, not overwhelming:)
Professor Calder is amazing. I have hated every English/writing class since high school but she made it fun. The class is easy and if you go to class and do the assignments youll get an A. She goes above and beyond to help each student receive a good grade. I definitely recommend Professor Calder to anyone who needs to take ENGL 2010
Prof Calders previous business background was beneficial to this course. She helped students see the value of good writing skills and then taught those skills with passion. She is very approachable. Her goal is student success and thats evident with her course material, extra credit options & assignment feedback
She is very amazing in her work. I never had an English teacher that cares for the students that much and want them to succeed in this class. I took this class and the teacher never told me how to improve or gave me any useful feedback but Professor Meridee was so patient and helpful. You have to be in class it is mandatory but the classes are fun
Professor Calder is a great teacher. I had a lot of language arts teacher that didn't grade me hard and was just an easy class. If you are really wanting to learn and become a better writer you will love this class and teacher. She will work with you and help in all aspects of your writing.
Professor Calder is a great educator, and cares about her students. There are readings weekly but were beneficial to help with the essays! She expected a lot from her students, but was willing to help any way she could. If you are willing to put in effort, set aside time for class, and participate this will be a great class for you. I recommend it!
Attendance is mandatory, so make sure you show up. The quizzes and readings felt like busy work, but she explained her reasoning behind them and it did make sense. There are several big point assignments, but she gives plenty of time to work on them. She gave great feedback on all my work. I would take her class again.
This class was built like a normal English class, it just had a ton of assignments and quizzes to do constantly so it was hard to keep up. She's very good with giving amazing feedback on your writing though, which did help a lot. She does care about her students but I felt that for a required English class there was too much to do.
Professor Calder is by far the best English teacher I have ever had. She does have a significant amount of homework, but it is all for the benefit of helping you finalize your paper. She also gives you tons of extra credit. She also helps you with great feedback and is willing to negotiate missed assignments or things that needed improvement.
She offers lots of chances at extra credit. Although she talks so fast she could be a rapper. She really cares about her students and will always make herself available to help you pass but you have to do the work.
You work all semester to turn in a final paper. There is a lot of reading to be done so I suggest that you set a date to read. Depending on which day the class is, I would suggest reading over the weekend. Also, it's helpful to be a week or two ahead of reading assignments because they can be hefty.
My favorite class the entire semester. She genuinely cares about her students and wants to do everything possible to make sure they succeed in her class. She's very passionate about her profession which makes it engaging and interesting. She wants to teach you how to think critically and become a learner. Textbook for reading responses & quizzes.
This class had a ton of homework but overall it was easy work just a TON of it! I ended up having more homework in this class than my other four classes combined. Although there was lots of homework, professor Calder gives the BEST feedback and is so good about telling you where you can improve in your work.
I have never been a fan of English and have generally struggled in school, but Professor Calder was one of the best Professors I have ever had! She is very good at giving work that matters. I never felt like I was given busy work and she always gave great feedback on every assignment! Her lectures are also helpful and engaging! Highly recommend!
This is a pretty difficult class, but it is made so much better by prof Calder. She was so helpful and always available to answer questions or to meet with you. I hated English before taking this class, but she made it so much more enjoyable. I also feel like so many of the things we learned can be applied in other classes and in life.
Ms Calder is a VERY hard grader but she is willing to work with students. She gives second chances to turn in assignments after giving you feedback and is really passionate about writing and helping you succeed.
She gives a lot of work so it is easy to fall behind. Most of the work done leads up to writing the final paper, so I would say most assignments were meaningful. She is very understanding if you email her with concerns or problems you have. This was a difficult class but Prof Calder is willing to help out.
I had a difficult time at first, mainly due to assignments and a new routine. But I was helped every step of the way, she even made difficult assignments enjoyable. Mrs Calder always helped me, and loved helping all of us learn to love learning. English can be difficult, but if you choose her class, and put effort, I guarantee it will be amazing.
There's a lot of assignments and it is hard to keep up if you have a lot going on. The lectures were beneficial. She is a hard grader but if you follow the criteria you get a good grade.
I really enjoyed this class and thought it was a good introduction to college work level.
Professor Calder is a caring professor who is blunt about her grading policies, and doesn't accept much late work.
My favorite thing about Prof. Calder is the amount of feedback she gives one each assignment. She tells you step by step how to do well in this class. Attendance is taken every class. She's very open to meet with you via Microsoft Teams outside of class. She obviously wants her students to succeed!
Professor Calder, is simply amazing and you can tell that she truly has a passion for English. She will always be willing to help you throughout the course and make sure you understand and pass the class, you just have to put in the work. Attendance is taken for classes. This is an English course, so be prepared to do readings and to write.
Professor Calder expects the best work from her students. The class was hard but professor Calder was helpful.
She is very nice and gives good advice for the final papear. There is a lot of assignments do in the class but they are fairly easy and add up very fast.
So many writing assignments every week. The only nice thing about this class is that almost all the assignments are help you write the final writing assignment the argumentative essay.
Lots of work but it is worth it
Professor Calder is great! Sometimes instructions are a little bit hard to understand when it comes to what she is looking for... but overall she is a passionate teacher and I would take the class again.
A lot of work for this class, but it is easy, and though she was strict on due dates, just put forth the effort, and you will have zero issues with this course. The best part of the class was all work was building towards the final essay; in the last couple of weeks, do the tasks on time; you end up writing most of the final before it's due.
I don't think I could have asked for a much better teacher for ENGL2010. She understands her purpose as a teacher and stressed us knowing our roles as students as well. I don't like English classes, so I can't say I enjoyed the class, but I definitely enjoyed the teacher!
Not my favorite class. The whole semester is you getting ready to create a final research paper. It was tough for me but that is because my topic was tricky. If you pick am essy topic to argue about then the class should be easy for you. There is a lot of writting too, and heavly graded.
This class was alright. The whole semester you will be getting ready to write a research/argument paper. I had a tough time with it but that is mainly because the topic I chooses was tricky. If you pick an easy topic to argue about then you should be fine.
Awesome teacher and responded really well to comments and concerns.
responded well to comments and concerns and was very nice.
There is a lot of reading from the textbook, professor requires short (super easy takes 10 mins) reports from each reading. If you genuinely want to become a better writer take this professor. She also is really really mindful of students situations (I messaged her multiple times with reasons I had to submit stuff late and she was understanding).
This course is structured well for a good ending where you have your final essay nearly built when you get to the end. So choose wisely your subject because you will write about it and learn to love it or hate it. Read your instructions closely so as not to miss your assignments.
Professor gives clear feedback on assignments. However, it's still an English course so be prepared to write and read a lot.
I really enjoyed Professor Calder's class. It was online, but we had a lot of interaction with each other through discussion boards. We did a lot of prep for our big research assignment that was helpful to get good ideas on it and to help make it easier to write. For those assignments, we were receiving peer feedback which was beneficial.
While the class was heavy in homework, none of the homework felt like busy work. All the homework led to the final paper and helped 1. cut down on the amount of time needed to complete the final paper and 2. connected all the dots of a clear writing piece. I felt I learned a decent amount of new ideas in this class.
Calder is a great professor. Provided awesome feedback, and allowed make-up assignments often.
engaging professor and provides great make up oppurtunity
Prof. Calder is a great teacher. I took this as an online summer block class, so the workload was pretty heavy. Regardless, she gives good feedback and has plenty of opportunities for extra credit. The class was very fair. Her instructions were sometimes a little confusing, but if you reach out to her she is very quick to clarify anything.
If you're taking English 2010 as an online class, read through everything in the module and you'll find an answer to most of the questions you have. I emailed her a lot, and right afterwards I found the info I was looking for just by looking deeper into it. Meridee is awesome and super helpful. The textbook taught me how to make sense for once.
She is a very fun teacher and wants all her students to pass. I was never really a fan of writing papers but through this class, I learned the importance of carefully choosing my words carefully, as well as how to be a critical thinker. I still can't say I enjoy writing papers, but I now understand and respect the power of writing.
I took this course in the 2nd block of Summer and went really fast. It is possible to do everything on time, but it is heavy.
Professor Calder does a great job of communicating their expectations for the class and ensuring they provide the resources students need to succeed in this class. Remember to stay on top of assignments because assignments under 5 points won't be accepted for late work.
Make sure that you stay on top of things in this class, but as long as you do that, Professor Calder seems easy to work with and like they want you to succeed.
She is super nice but is hard to follow in written discussions. I got lost a lot. Lots of papers to write. Learned a lot
She assigns a lot of homework, but really like how she gives you commentary and suggestions on how to improve on papers so then you get a better score. Her class is very well organized and structured. I do suggest looking at the canvas for any hidden assignments. I suggest not missing too many days of class, participation points are very helpful.
Great professor. Would highly recommend
This class was quite a solid class overall. Students are expected to show up to class (attendance is mandatory). With that being said, the experience of being in class is good. The teacher is quite funny
I thought she was a great professor! She was very helpful in her feedback, and always allowed us to reach out to her. There were plenty of extra credit opportunities throughout the semester. I thought all of the assignments she gave us helped us in making our final paper the best it could be. Be prepared to read/write a lot, and think critically!
I LOVED Her and I have always hated English! She made it easier to understand and become a better writer. She wants her students to succeed, so she is always willing to take the time and talk with her students. GIVES out a TON of extra credit. You have about 5 papers the last one is a group paper.
If you show up and participate in class, she explains everything so you can easily get a good grade in her class! There are only a few major papers, but other assignments so your whole grade isn't based off essays. She is fun and has a great personality!
Professor Calder has a passion for English and the success of her students. She does a great job of staying enthusiastic and creative with her assignments and her weekly videos. This class does have a lot of assignments due and at times can feel overwhelming, but she has the class laid out in an appropriate manner that sets students up for success.
Ms. Calder is awesome and made class fun, honestly changed my college experience. She helps you find a joy and purpose for learning.
Lots of work, but not too hard, and the professor is always willing to help and understanding of her students.
this class is only difficult if you don't follow the assignments or put time aside to complete what's required. Actual effort is recognized. Overall the professor is really awesome for how the class is.
Teacher was fun to be with in class and made it enjoyable. She also made sure we all knew exactly what do to do on every assignment we had.
Was structured around having face-to-face discussions, but most of the homework is done online and outside of class time. Going to class is still good though, as generally what you discuss in class is what the homework is about.
She was amazing! From the start, you start working on your final paper, so you have the whole semester to complete it. She offers TONS of extra credit, which is so helpful! She gives excellent feedback on assignments, and you can tell she actually reads your assignment.
I really enjoyed having her as my professor this semester. The assignments were all very accomplishable and broken up in a way that made the final project much less intimidating. If you have any questions or extenuating circumstances, she is very responsive and open to helping her students.
She is a very chill professor just turn in your things on time and its good
She was so caring and helped me so much. I was failing the class and she gave me a second chance!
Professor Calder is very helpful and gives great feedback. Her papers were challenging to write but if you work hard and take advantage of the writing center and librarians, it's a breeze! Everything is organized well and she communicates great! Would definitely recommend her if you need to take this class.
She is a great teacher and she gave good feedback that was helpful to prepare you for future essay papers. One thing that was hard for me is the amount of homework she assigned, the work overload.
Professor Calder is great! I really enjoyed the way she taught her online course. She lets you know exactly what she expects out of you. She has you read a lot but the readings teach you how to write the final paper. Overall I really enjoyed the class and would absolutely take her course again.
Was very clear about due dates. I never felt overwhelmed she always provided plenty of time to get assignments done. I learned a lot from the textbook.
Prof Calder is very nice but her workload is absolutely insane. She assigns 50pg readings on mondays and has quizzes and responces due for them on tuesdays. Friday nights she has an unreal amount of assignments due. Only has assignments due tuesdays and fridays but if you have a social life or a job good luck trying to get an A!
I took Professor Calder's online course. There are a lot of tedious assignments that don't feel important, but they build a foundation for the final paper. Professor Calder gives great feedback on assignments and is very clear about what she expects from each student. Be prepared for readings and discussions. I recommend taking her online course!
Professor Calder gives good assignments that aren't too heavy and sets you up for success in her class. She is easy to get in contact with and was always willing to help.
She does a great job in giving assignments that will set you up for success and will be helpful in the future. The class environment was fun and she was always willing to work with you if needed. Would definitely take her class again.
Professor Calder is an amazing teacher with high expectations. She provides a lot of time to work on assignments as well as numerous extra credit opportunities. She actually cares about your success as a student and is understanding. She works with and for you.
Professor Calder is one of the most amazing teachers I have had at UVU. She is very understanding and is very helpful with feedback and answering questions. I would definitely recommend taking her class.
The professor's teaching style was very useful and helpful when showing us how to write a paper and what makes a good one. She had many examples of what each assignment should look like and a clear rubric for the outline of the assignments. She also gave good feedback and showed us what we could improve with for the final paper.
Professor Calder really helps her students succeed in this class by giving great feedback on almost every assignment. She also offers a lot of extra credit. Very nice but isn't afraid to critique your mistakes. Always follow the criteria for every assignment!!
I enjoyed taking Professor Calder's online course! She gives great comments that will help you with the final research paper. There are also plenty of easy extra credit assignments.
Great Professor. Clear expectations. The workload is not too bad if so stay on schedule. Everything throughout the semester is working towards your final paper. Assignments are useful.
Professor Calder's class was great! Just make sure to do the work on time and follow the rubric. Also if your in an online class watch the videos! She gives a lot of extra credit but often hides it in her videos.
Meridee is one of my favorite professors I had this semester! The class was challenging but in a way that pushed you to excel and learn in the course. The one thing she stressed most during the semester was learning beyond the classroom, which is the best way to learn. I would highly recommend taking her class.
Professor Calder was a great teacher. She had weekly videos that were very clear about instructions for the weekly assignments and also had opportunities for extra credit. If you turn your work in and do the extra credit, it will be an easy class.
Really great professor. Willing to work with you, offers good feedback, and genuinely seems to care about student success beyond her class. Not a huge fan of word count minimums on most assignments, but overall good class.
Decent amount of homework but very fun and well taught class.
She is a very good teacher which explores different sides of the conversational spectrum
Must take professor, by far my favorite class taken in college so far.
READ IF YOU ARE THINKING OF TAKING CALDER'S CLASS: Calder is a fantastic professor, you won't regret taking her class! Here's what you should know about her class: 1) Expect to write a lot (It's an English class, what did you expect?) 2) She's extremely generous with extra credit 3) Do not fall behind! 4) She gives very specific grading criteria
Professor Calder is an outstanding professor. She pushes her students to do the best they can and is more than happy to help you along the way. She very clearly cares about her subject and her students. I wasn't expecting this class to be as thought provoking as it was. This is one of best English classes you can take because of Professor Calder.
She is the best! Lots of extra credit opportunities and is very engaging throughout lessons. Gives ample time for assignments. Is a firm grader but makes her expectations very clear with a lot of support. If you are responsible with your work then you will do great in her class.
Professor Calder is one of my favorite English teachers I've ever had. I usually don't like the subject but she made it more enjoyable. She was super helpful with the final essay too. If you stay on top of your assignments you'll do great in her class.
Professor Calder is a good professor for students ready to learn although may not be the best fit for some students.
Professor Calder is a good professor but may not be the best fit for some students due to her desire to discuss some challenging and controversial viewpoints in class
Professor Calder is amazing. She offers lots of extra credit opportunities and gives great feedback on each assignment. In this class, the biggest assignment is a research paper with smaller assignments to help build the final research paper. She is an awesome teacher and will really help you improve your writing abilities.
I really enjoyed having Professor Calder as my English teacher, she is very caring and helpful. If I have an opportunity to take another class she teaches I will definitely be taking that class.
Great professor, very intelligent, and considerate. For example, I had a family emergency and I was unable to do an assignment and she let me do it late for full credit. You don't have to worry about making your assignment responses "politically correct". She is very opened minded but will make you back up your statements with evidence and fact.
The semester I took her class my depression hit really hard. I was barely able to get any assignments done. As we were nearing the end of the semester we had a conference to discuss the end of the semester and our final project. I explained my predicament to her during our discussion, and she let me try to get the rest of the assignments in.
Great class and I learned a lot, but some of the workload was heavy at times and didn't always make sense why we were doing the assignments.
I took the class online for the first block of the summer. It was difficult to do the assignments mainly because of how fast-paced the class was. It was expected though. Overall communicated assignment expectations and was fast at responding when I had trouble or questions. Lots of extra credit opportunities which I appreciated.
Lots of bigger assignments that were time consuming. You will be writing and reading quite a bit. Does give extra credit opportunities.
I took Professor Calders class as an online block semester class and she was great! Each lesson had a 5-10 minute video of her discussing what was due that week and so on. All of her assignments also had very detailed descriptions on exactly how to do them in order to get the best grade. You can tell in her videos that she really cares!
She was very open to help in this class. I took it online as a first block; it was hard work but not difficult to understand. It was time-consuming, but the end of the class felt super rewarding! I definitely recommend!
Although Mrs. Calder's class was difficult at times it was worthwhile and she was incredibly accommodating and supportive. She gives wonderful critical feedback but does it in a manner that is tactful.
Mrs. Calder is a wonderful professor. In the online block course, it was a bit overwhelming but that was to be expected considering the format. Mrs. Calder gives incredible feedback and does so in a manner that is tactful.
This professor is pretty clear on their grading criteria and gives good feedback on assignments. She even allows students to make edits to assignments based on feedback they receive after turning them in. She also has opportunities for extra credit.
My one warning is please ask questions and the biggest supportive information the day before a thing is due and for me I had a hard time not having everything in canvas, but only having things in canvas that sometimes gets skimmed over. She is willing to help, very lenient on giving us a week to resubmit major assignments to get better grades.
Mrs. Calder has been the most beneficial English teacher I have ever had. Not only did she push me to do well in our signature assignments (the 4 main papers), but she also left vast amounts of feedback after each one and gave us at least a week for resubmit each one to receive a better grade. I really needed that.
Prof. Calder is heavy on homework, but there is a reason for it. She gives great feedback. She is happy to work with you if something comes up. Her criteria was always clear in what was expected. I loved that writing by hand was a necessity. It really helped me better learn. Prof. Calder made the class fun and I personally enjoyed going every time.
Meridee Calder is a passionate educator with a lot of experience across a variety of fields. She takes genuine interest in her students. She is an clearly communicates deadlines and expectations in her class. She integrates interesting topics in her classroom and encourages conversation. Every assignment had purpose and was never bored.
She is an awesome professor and you can tell she puts lots of work into the class. The class wasn't easy but if you apply yourself you will get stuff out of it. There are 5 3-5 page essays you do and like 3 assignments due every week. She will definitely work with you.
Professor Calder was super helpful and overall a great teacher to have for English 1010. I am usually not a huge fan of english teachers, but I actually grew to like Professor Calder. She always gives good feedback on big assignments and gives you plenty of opportunities to boost your grade through revisions and extra credit assignments.
She did a great job, I did notice that as the semester went on she started to grade the papers harder.
Solid professor with clear expectations. Weekly work is not difficult with only a handful of essays due that are relatively short.
She was super super nice and understanding about specific circumstances! Class is not optional as it is part of your overall grade, but class is super easy and I didn't mind going to it. Papers are a majority fo the grade and she gives good feedback.
Professor Calder is an amazing teacher that truly cares about her students and their grades. The material that is gone over in class is very manageable and prepares you for the essays. Her weekly videos are great tools and outlines everything.I recommend taking a class from her because she is willing to work with you and the support is there always.
Professor Calder is a very understanding professor and willing to help no matter what. She clearly states how to get a good score on each assignment and will allow revisions for most assignments after a certain time. Attendance is mandatory, if you miss one class your grade will drop. Show up and stay on top of your work and you will succeed.
Worst first: Final is a 4-5pg group paper, you better pray for a functional group. Otherwise, I found the papers and other assignments very reasonable. If you make an effort you will actually learn. She is fun, reasonable, politically unbiased, truly cares, and she is overall pleasant. Hybrid class is very managable.
Mrs. Calder makes my list of the top 3 favorite professors I've ever had. Clear expectations, incredibly accessible, and always happy to give feedback whether you think you want it or not (you really do). Loved her so much I'm taking her 2010 class now. You will not regret taking her classes. Stomped out my tendency to procrastinate too.
I LOVE professor Calder. Definitely one of my favorite professors I've ever had. She teaches so well and her assignments throughout the semester help and TEACH youalso. I am always captivated in class. She's so clear about expectations that the coursework doesn't seem as hard. There is definitely work but the way she has everything set up is gr8.
Professor Calder is a great teacher and I have learned so much not only about writing but about the importance of learning. She give good feed back on assignments and give lots of opportunities to receive a better grade on assignments. I would recommend for any student to take her.
Professor Calder was really funny but she showed genuine interest in your success and always gives a second chance to improve, and if you don't, she has more than enough extra credit to improve your grade.
Excellent profesor!
Profesor Calder is a wonderful person and an excellent teacher!
She was one of the best professors I have ever taken! She makes english worth taking :)
Professor Calder had helped me learn a lot in english. I always struggle with english classes. At first I dreaded this class because it's a higher level english class but I enjoyed this class a ton. I also dreaded the weekly discussion boards but I felt more connected to the other students. I took this class online.
I took her for 1010 and 2010 consecutively--I enjoyed her so much. She addresses super dynamic/current topics in class and it gives the class an awesome opportunity to discuss different points of view. Curriculum: Pick one topic, write about it all semester in different approaches. The final paper is long, but approachable bcuz of other assignments
Very good teacher. Quick to respond to emails and provided lots of extra credit. Lots of textbook reading
She is kind and provides different ways to get help and gives her students resources to use for their writing and research. I would definitely take it again, because her assignments are not just hard, they push you to become the best writer you can become.
Mrs. Calder is a great professor. She is clear, passionate, and respectful in class towards topics and peers. A big theme in the semester was to become an independent and critical thinker. Workload is a bit heavier, but she has clear deadlines to make the assignments a gradual process.
Mrs. Calder is the first English related teacher I have ever worked well with and understood. I've dropped out of two English classes at UVU until I had Mrs. Calder. Her 1010 class was my first A in an English subject, and I hope to make that two A's once this semester ends. She has always worked with me, and I will always appreciate her for that.
Great class you will need to read a lot and she grades pretty hard, but definitely doable
I took a general (professional) writing class with this professor. I slacked off the first part of the semester/didn't do assignments, etc., but then she was really helpful in helping me get my grade back up to the 80% range. I met with her twice, she always responded to my emails (the class was online), and she was forgiving with some late work.
Professor Calder was a great online professor, the course and material was clear and easy to follow. She was a fair grader and always gave constructive feedback and allowed opportunities to redo. Because most assignments were on canvas, if you missed the discussions, there was no chance to do it late so you would lose points. She was great!
She is hard on grading but it helps you succeed!
Amazing professor, always available for extra help and easy to contact outside of class!
Professor Calder was very professional and kept all debates very civil and allowed lots of view points. She does a great job teaching and is able to answer lots of questions and help through projects.
She is really awesome! She wants you to succeed in her class which is so kind of her. Get ready to write and read a lot!
Professor Calder is one of those professors who is very passionate about what subject they're teaching. She provides a safe space for her students to talk about their ideas and is very respectful when her students disagree with one another. There is a lot of homework involved but as long as you keep up, it isn't too overwhelming.
She was a great professor for an online course! Gives really good feedback on papers and responds to all questions. There is a lot of work for this class, and if you are doing it online there are a lot of discussions. However, she lets you redo things to get the best grade possible, TONS of extra credit opportunities, and wants the best for you.
The instructions are clear, easy to understand, and assignments are fun and meaningful
There was a lot of homework in my Summer block class, so prepare accordingly. She gave good feedback to writing assignment, and offered plenty of extra credit. The textbook was not very engaging, but it is easy to read despite its length.
I was doing the summer semester, so if you plan on it get ready for lots of homework and reading. Calder is a fair grader and will take time out of her day to meet with you and discuss and potential issues you may have. The criteria can be a little difficult to understand, however if you ask for help you'll receive it.
Calder is a great teacher, and I would recommend you take her class. There is a lot of work to be done and sometimes it is challenging but she is always there if you need some extra help. She replies to any question you have and is understanding, just make sure you don't fall behind and youstay on task.
Professor Calder gave feedback that was incredibly helpful for improving my writing skills. Despite being a tough grader and the class being fast paced, she was always willing to work with me and support my learning throughout the course.
Professor Calder is very efficient in the way she structures her class. Every assignment you do is meant to make the final paper a lot easier. One thing that was hard for me at least was I felt like the class became a huge priority over my other four classes I was taking, there were days where English 2010 was my biggest worry which was hard.
Professor Calder is an engaging, passionate teacher who makes the class enjoyable. The workload is manageable with the right approach - I found Unstuck study and the textbook really helpful for staying on top of assignments.
She is a caring and patient instructor who provides valuable feedback. While she assigns a lot of homework, it is manageable and contributes to the learning experience. She also offers extra credit opportunities, which is very nice. My advice is to attend every class and stay attentive. I would recommend her class!
Professor Calder gets to know everyone in her classes. She knew everyone name by the end of the 4 week. She is very detailed in her work but helps you understand and really seeks to help you do your best. I'm not someone who likes English but she has made this class one of my favorites.
It is really important to make sure you understand the syllabus as well as read the criteria very carefully on the essays. She will deduct points if certain things are not met in the way she expects them. She is super duper nice and very willing to work with you as long as you reach out to her which is something I didn't do as often as I should.
Mrs. Calder is a great teacher, but if you cant handle a lot of busywork or group projects, STEER CLEAR
Overall, an excellent teacher, and very communicative. Loves her job!
Professor Calder is passionate about what she does,it shows. She has engaging lectures, offers extra credit, and genuinely wants everyone to learn the best they can. She assigns reading responses that can be answered in many of ways. The 5 major assignments are spaced out fairly well, and she offers valuable and good critique. There is one group paper
Mrs. Calder was a very helpful teacher with great feedback on writing and specific instruction for writing prompts. She also allowed many resources to help us while not helping us too much.
While this class was a heavy course load and had a lot of homework, I loved Professor Calder's teaching style. She was very engaging and it made the class interesting. She's clearly very passionate about language and gave clear and entertaining lectures. I plan on continuing my English courses with her and highly recommend her class.
Professor Calder is a really great Professor. She gives many opportunities for extra credit. She give really great feedback that helps us understand how you can improve. She gives the opportunity to redo assignments for higher grades. She really inspires you to become a great learner to help you through your whole college experience.
I personally enjoyed her class. It was always hands on learning so there wasn't a ton of lecturing. Only 4 signature assignments and they are pretty easy. She also travels a lot so occasional days off which is nice.
Professor Calder is very passionate about teaching, and it is clear that she wants you to succeed. As long as you keep up, you'll be okay. While she is a more harsh grader, she has everything very clearly outlined in the syllabus and rubric for each assignment. If you reach out to her for help, she will be very quick to help and very understanding.
Great class. Professor makes her expectations known and her criteria for success is clear for each assignment. Coursework was the perfect balance between too easy and too difficult. I felt she did a great job in the online format of being personable with her students.
Taking Professor Calders ENG1010 course was very enjoyable! She is super approachable and is great at responding to emails. Prof. Calder also offers many chances for extra credit as well as the opportunity to resubmit essays if you are unhappy with the given score. Overall I highly recommend taking this course!
Prof. Calder is a very entertaining teacher and she gives good feedback on your papers and wants you to succeed.
As long as you're willing to learn and improve you'll have no problems with her. She wants all her students to succeed and although she says she has a lot of homework I rarely had to spend more than a few hours a week on her class.
Meridee Calder is a great professor! My overall experience is quite good! I took her English 1010 class and personally I wasn't really look forward to taking an English class but professor Calder had a great structure class that was simple but filled with many new learning skills in I will definitely be using throughout my academic career!
The work was easy and there wasn't an excessive amount of it. She brought in treats for the holidays. There was a very important group project. She is willing to work with you on assignments. She provides extra credit opportunities.
This class was pretty tough at times but Id say she was pretty good. The strict grading absolutely kicked my but at times but she would alway give good, detailed and constructive criticism. there where times where I felt things got a bit unfair but for the most part a pretty solid experience.
Great teacher who is passionate about english
Great teacher who is passionate about English!
Great professor who is passionate about English!
Professor Calder provided relevant content and good feedback on essays to help you learn and grow as a writer. However, there were so many assignments due in this class. I would recommend taking this class to someone who was not taking full time credits to be able to give this course the attention it needs.
Calder in all is a good professor. I will note that she struggles to teach certain things she requires in her criteria like APA formatting and other requirements not specified directly, and instead encourages you to figure it out on your own, but she allows resubmissions and EC. You will be kept busy with assignments, papers, and reading.
Decent Teacher. Passionate about writing and critical thinking.
Professor Calder has a very effective mindset that helped prepare me for college. This was an introductory class, and I came in with a bad attitude. She introduced me to a better way of thinking which has benefitted me immensely.
She gives good feedback and her class is decently easy, I just had a hard time for personal reasons and she wasn't super caring or helpful with that. She is willing to give extentions, which is great, but she's a little impatient over email. She is a great teacher overall.
She was really amazing and completely changed my mindset for college and becoming a learner. I am not a fan taking english, but she made it more exciting with the way she taught and her mindset. She helped us become critical thinkers and pushed us to learn controversial topics and learn from both sides. Recommend 100%
She was amazing at explaining what to do in the instructions. But her best teaching trait is her feedback. She will leave you precise feedback, and then give a chance for you to fix it.
Great teacher who cares about her students. If you're looking to be a better writer this is definitely the teacher for you.
Great teacher. You will have a lot of work to do but it's all specifically for your benefit as a writer and for the rest of college.
Meridee Calder is awesome. The course had a heavy workload but it was manageable and there are a lot of extra credit opportunities. I would absolutely take a class from her again. I learned a lot and she's a great teacher
She is great! She knows all of her students by name, knows their assignments to refer to in class if they connect to the lecture, and is a very fun teacher. She speaks fast, can sometimes take a moment to catch up to her speed, but she will always go over it again if needed. All papers written apply back to the final paper, which is useful.
I actually enjoyed taking this class, Meridee Calder has been the best English professor I have had. She has been very understanding and gives really good feedback. She gets back with answers within a day or two and is very interactive for an online class. I would take her again for another course!
Awesome teacher. Really engages with her students. Id take this class again 100% even though this class did require the most homework for my generals classes. This class taught me a lot and you can tell that Professor Calder cares about the relationship she has with her students as well as gives great feedback!
She is great at giving feedback and will always be there to help you throughout the semester. She is funny but also strict.
I will take class again!
She has her papers in APA, but all criteria are listed, and she has specific due dates. She even lets you turn things in after 7 days of being graded to try for a different score! I took her as a hybrid class, and it was the perfect amount of classes for this class!
If you read the syllabus carefully and follow it, you'll do well in the class. She gave me an extension when I had a valid reason, and I really appreciated that. One of the best parts of her class is that she allows students to resubmit assignments after receiving her feedback, which helps you improve your writing and your grade.
Meridee was a great professor to have for an online course! There were usually 4-5 manageable assignments each week, and a few larger point assignments throughout the semester. None of the assignments were difficult, and if you do the work on time and keep up with assignments, you'll most likely get an A.
She was a great teacher, would take again!
Great professor, if you enjoy writing, you will like this class.
she's so unintentionally funny and gives great feedback!
Professor Calder was great! I learned a lot, and I was able to retain the information stated. Her instructions were a bit confusing, and I had to ask her a lot of questions. She is an easy grader! She gives great feedback and lets you revise and resubmit for a higher grade. There was one group project that we had to complete, but, was my favorite.
It's a wonderful class to take and an amazing teacher. Some of the best feedback I have ever been given came from this class.
The course was taken online, so attendance was not mandatory. The class includes numerous papers and long discussion work. However, there is a lot of room for collaborating with the professor for making up work and extra credit. A great teacher to work with who genuinely cares about students.
I really loved her. At first I would get kind of overwhelmed during lectures because she talks fast but we all got used to it and I ended up loving it and it was honestly one of my favorite classes.
One of my fav professors! She is so funny and a great teacher. Overall great person.
She is very caring and truly wants her students to succeed. She gives lots of opportunities for corrections and improvement. Her teaching style is clear, organized, and easy to follow, and she explains the material in a way that really makes sense. I highly recommend her.
She is so nice and helpful!
Professor Calder cares very much about the progress and learning of her students. She is very helpful whenever you may have questions and is a great and humorous person!
