Please do not take this instructor. One of my few dropped classes.
Run as fast as you can away from this instructor.
Hated her class. She requires all answers to be written in complete sentences. The entire word problem must be re-written from the text. Simple math problems that I had already completed in 15 minutes for my MATH 115 took at least 45 minutes to write everything she required. When she helped our MATH 115 group, she mislead us more than once.
Do not take her she is a terrible, mean, and unhappy ****.
This lady has a visual problem, which makes it hard for us to ask questions. She doesn't teach, she does 'group work', she's rude, and she's SUPER difficult with homework and I hate this class -- haven't even taken an exam yet.

Very organized. Clear expectations. Yes she wants detail, but for good reasons.
Do not take her class, It is more like an english class instead of math. She is very bad at teaching. We do unrelated math stuff (wasting time). I very unlucky to have her as a teacher, so as other class mates but it too late for me to drop out because of finacial aid. Praying to pass the class even those I have a good math background.

If you want to LEARN the material, she is a great teacher...if you just want to ge through the class, you need to look elsewhere.
She, frankly, is the least capable teacher I have ever had, and unforunatly will have to have.
Merideth is an ellent teacher for those who care to work and learn. Higher math requires a firm understanding of the subject therefore writing everything out is crucial. To those who say she is a bad teacher, i say you have a bad attitude(i was one of you at one time). Just talk to her about your homework or whatever and she will like you.
Meredith is a very nice lady and she really wants her students to do well. The problem is she just isn't able to cover the material well enough, this is VERY FRUSTRATING! If you are in a lower level math class and really want to understand the material and you don't mind a lot of writing take her. If you are in calculus or above you better run!
I am over 40 years old and have experienced alot of teachers, it is my overwhelming conclusion that LaFlesh is the worst teacher I have ever experienced. I loved Math and got A's easily but after a few weeks I dreaded her class. She has major control issues and likes to make you run through her hoops with little reward. Ever point took a pound o
She is so sweet! and is willing to do anything to help you. SHe also works around your schedule, and will explain it 10,00 times until u understand :)
This instructor is extremely picky and the way she teach sucks. I didn't solve any problems wrong in the whole quarter and i always get A when i was studying in China, she is the worst teacher i hv even seem. but she likes to deduce ur score from ur not showing enough steps( although some steps are obviously way too stupid), or from the statement
Was very disorganized the first couple of weeks, but she improved a lot as time went on.Yes,she requires you to write out the entire word problems in your homework, but only assigns 2-5 problems to be turned in a week. She is a good teacher to help you understand the material,is willing to bend over backwards for you,but her style is not for everyone.
This instructor views students as precious. She helped me greatly and I am now at a private university, something I thought impossible back then. She takes the time and patiently helps students. I loved that I had to write out how to solve the problems. I would not have understood any of the math without this process.
One of the worst instructors ever. Very picky and biased.Unable to give clear explanation, cares too much about grammar and spelling ( you can actually get a bad grade even if your calculations and answers are right).
She is literally blind and never leaves time for questions also she demands gramtical perfection from her students, don't take her if you intend to do anything else during the quarter.
I think she is a good instructor. The only time she cares about grammar is the projects, and she lets you know that she will be picky! There are many extra credit opportunities throughout. She is very patient. You can also go to her office hours if you still have questions. She also came to school on the Saturday before finals to answer questions!
She is not a teacher for those who wants an easy A. She expects you to do A LOT of work on your own. But she is extremely helpful for business majors, lots of application. After you done with the class you realize how much you learned. Her class will help with economics, business, and accounting. And she is a very interesting person.
I took the class once before and I honestly did not want to take it with her again (I needed an A and got a C+) but I had no choice. Then I realized that she was an awesome teacher! She was also funny the second time around. I know that she was going through some major health concerns before but she's fine now. She's a great teacher!!!!!
Worst teacher I have ever had. Unless you are a feminist English major, your chances of succeeding in this class are hopeless. Teacher gave questions on test that were not gone over in class. Teacher repeatedly changed her mind on what she expected from students. Would not recommend teacher to any student.
This teacher is terrible. Very unpredictable. grammar has to be good (even if you are a foreigner) and will take your grade down! beware. She is very disorganized and actually confuses people. Many quizzes and the grading is not consistent. (two guys had almost the same answer one typed and one handwritten, the latter had less points. just like tha
DO NOT TAKE HER!! She is very inconsistent and her grading style is HORRIBLE. She expects you to know stuff that she never even told you and if you do not write it down on a test its wrong. She struggles to teach and doesn't explain things very well. Definitely not recommended.
All the student who stuck around will say one thing: This teacher is arrogant and very disorganized who's out to get you.. You have to word things exactly how she wants and will mark you down if you don't capitalize a letter ! ridiculous and absolutely unnecessary. Follow my advice and just take it with another teacher.
Very hard to understand. wants it all perfect, even though she is not perfect herself. grading is all over the place. if you have a homework assignment and it is worth 25pts with 3 different questions, if you just miss one question you fail the whole assignment. seems like she does not know how to teach to us how to teach other students at all.
Holy Moly, I cannot believe this woman is still teaching! And isn't ironic that we did not get to rate her on a survey this quarter. I wish there was another option for a teacher for this class.
She is a hard grader but gives you every opportunity to earn points. She will look at your graphs or answers during exams and tell you if its ok or not if you are not sure. She does want things done perfectly but it is clearly stated in her syllabus on what she wants and expect from her students. So no excuse.
She is a very hard grader, and changes her expectations at her whim. Part of the problem is that she has help with grading, so there are different standards for every person's work. It doesn't make sense; there is no making her happy.
DO NOT TAKE !!! You might not have a choice, because she's the only one teaching MATH 170/171. But be aware that she grades all over the place and hasn't tought these classes before.... She's not very good at explaining and was absent alot. She doesn't grade the homework that she gives instead gives quizzes that then will be unfairly graded. BEWARE!
One of the worst professors at TCC ever! Just all around should not teach Math 170/171! Does not give you attendance points, focuses on hw quizzes that are worth alot of the grade and not the hw itself! Those who have to take the class, good luck!
Seriously, are the people at TCC even looking at this? Get a clue Math Dept Dean, this woman needs to go! LaFlesh is making the whole math dept at TCC look bad!
The worst teacher ever!!!!! Never take her if you have the choice (or even if you don't). She will ruin your GPA and you will not learn anything in that class. I wish something could be done in order for her to get fired!!!! Good luck to the ones planning to take her for any math classes
I think we spent a full 15 minutes of valuable class time debating who or what is considered a child. Really? Where do I sign up to get my tuition back? Are you paying attention Dean of the TCC Math Dept? Students are NOT happy with LaFlesh. I wish rather than consulting Kellermier should would just let him teach the class.
Terrible, plain and simple.
Using a z-score to justify bad teaching is not appropriate.
It becomes more clear to me everyday why she no longer teachers public school. If this woman was my kiddo's teacher I would demand that they fired her.
I liked her. She did expect a lot but because of that I learned a lot. She did have her expectations in the sylabus and only wanted us to read and follow. When she was treated with respect, she was always was respectful in return. She wasn't perfect, but neither am I.
Wold not reccomend to anyone. I'm not sure she even understood. The information.
She had no idea how to interact with people. She shouldn't be teaching, writing textbooks yes.
I managed an A BUT she is a very difficult teacher. Not very clear and extremely picky on sentence structure when interpreting answers. She gets lost in her lectures and grades very inconsistently. I wouldn't recommend her , especially if math is not your strong suit.
The worse teacher even. Never take this class with her, even if you love math you will hate it.
She makes you work for your grade but she is always willing to help and she'll like you more if you do ask for help. I liked her, good lady, good person.
Horrible!!!
If you have signed up for her class, try to switch out ASAP!!! She is a horrible teacher and her teaching style is very confusing. She expects perfection when she is nowhere near perfect while teaching. She get corrected by her students on a daily basis. I love math and felt as if I learned hardly anything the entire quarter.
Blinded by her arrogance, she exhibits inconsideration to her student's self-worth and comprehension. She remains the epitome of a teacher who stills needs learning herself before lecturing anyone on any matters of life and academics. I was able to achieve an A in her class, but only because I spent an undue amount of time receiving help elsewhere.
She is the most confusing instructor I have EVER encountered, she make the school as a whole look very bad. I would not ever reccommend her to anyone. She is a horriable teacher, I cant believe she still has a job.
OMG !!! I have completed over 60 credits and this is one of the worst teachers I have had so far. DAILY mistakes on the board while she is "teaching", if you are registering>>> DROP NOW !!!! She makes EVERYTHING harder than it really is, very confusing.
let's just say... the counselor wished me luck. Take this class only if you are looking to try and make every other math you take seem easier...
I am shocked at the negative comments on here, since I am really enjoying her class. I came back to school at age 40 and I am a bit appalled by the sense of entitlement of the students. I find her teaching to be very clear, logical and organized. She sweetly brings treats during tests. She thinks no question is too dumb. She cares!
The worst teacher possible.
She seems like a nice lady and does want to help anyone who is having a hard time, but she is very tough when grading...she marked off points because I wrote the variable in caps! She can be a little confusing too, but her sweetness kind of gives her a little leeway in my eyes....
She is very nice and tries to help but I have to admit it is a very difficult class. Unorganized, Group solves are not helpful and quizes are given in the last 5 minutes of class. Stressful for me and hard to get a hold of concepts without alot of outside help. A lot of time wasted in class.
I received an A in this class, but I feel like this class was a complete waste of time. Often, instructions are vague and assignments are unclear. Much of class time is spent teaching college students concepts that should already be quite clear, instead of discussing ways to teach these subjects, as the course should. Advice-take diff instructor.
I never had any problems with this teacher. I never ask for special treatment from any of my teachers, but if you are having problems she will be more than willing to help. She is kind of a mess though, as long as you are a good student, you won't have any problems.
Not very clear when teaching & tells you you don't need to do something on a test then if you don't do it you get marked down. Just overall a bad teacher.
Although she is highly motivated and wants her students to succeed, she was incredibly inconsistent. She had a difficult time helping students understand the concepts and would mark problems wrong for things she had said would not matter during her lectures. The only reason I did so well is because I am an Algebra Tutor!Do not take her classes!!!
Personally i have nothing against her, she is a nice lady. As a teacher i think she is horrible very unorganized and kind of all over the place. She allowed too many questions from certain students who made learning almost impossible. I was able to earn an A- with help from the study group leaders who basically taught better then the instructor.
She has a great sense of humor, & is a nice person.Very willing to help you understand the material. However she is VERY difficult to please with sentence-style answers! I felt I did not receive credit for parts done well,or extra things I tried to do to accommodate her poor vision. Huge points off for any error, even for typing one wrong letter!
wow..what a teacher.. This teacher is a hard woman to please. she marks down points for stupid things that really dont matter. i believe that is due to her vision disablity. She looks at things very closev(literally) and marks down, for example) if equations are not lined up. She is pretty thorough on the work, and does answer any questions!
Took both business 147 and 148 with her. She is extremely nice, and accomadating with extending assignments if needed. She is very inconsistent and often times makes errors during lectures. Be on top of it, call her out you can rack up a lot of extra credit if you call her out.
Honestly one of the worst teachers I've ever had. Math is my favorite subject and I've never had less than an A in a math class. I'm mid quarter and have a C+ now because she forces you to explain everything in words in a particular format; utterly ridiculous. If you can avoid taking her, absolutely do. I have no idea how she is department head...
I enjoyed having her as an instructor. LOTS of ways to earn extra credit. She will help in any way during office hours. The group solves were helpful before each exam. (except for one, which she let the whole class retake the exam) I would have gotten a much better grade if I had completed all my homework. She is strict on the written homework.
This teacher is worst one I never had. School is the place to learn. But she pays all her energy on her rules. For student who study abroad she is useless. She never reply my e-mail. TREASURE your life, LEAVE her away.
She is not able to help students when they have trouble, she can't even give out a solution to them. She is too specific on anything, we have a lot of way to calculate math, but it has to be her way and really specific. Because of that, international student can't afford that because it's math class, it's more understading than correcting grammar.
She was not helpful in class at all. Yes there is some opportunity for extra credit but you need it when you are being docked points for grammar, comma usage, and everything else an English professor would use. She abbreviations in her examples but expects full write outs on exams and takes away major points if words or explanations are shortened.
She was the worst f king teacher I have met. She put all his energy on her f king rules!! If you want to enjoy your life, leave her away!
Very nice women who is always willing/able to help outside of class. She forms study groups after the first test which helped alot. Yes she does grade very strict, but the extra credit opportunity is unreal. Gives out practice tests and will tell you every question that's on the final. Wish I could have taken her for MATH 148.
She is no nice with students and be willing to check homework, projects, Webassign. She will test exact what she teaches in class, and she will give out example of exam every time. She is so polite with students, and you need to talk to her to feel it. Respect her rules in class. Easy A for students if they work hard.
She is very nice.I don't understand why people talking bad about her. Easy A because of around 50 pts extra credit totally. She also only test what you practice in class. Example before tests too.
Meredith was fantastic! There are a TON of opportunities for extra credit and she encourages you to turn in assignments early so she can "pre-grade" something for you and tell you what to fix so you can get 100% when you have to turn it in. She also gives you a practice test the day before the test that looks very similar to the actual test.
Mrs. Laflesh is a great teacher!! She is a tough grader but she tells you exactly what she wants AND she encourages you to turn things in early so she can give you feedback before she grades it. She also gives out a TON of extra credit. Very nice lady. She doesn't assign a lot of homework either which can be a plus.
Meredith is really a nice woman. That being said, she can't teach. I have a 3.9 GPA and got an A in the class. I'm not bitter about anything. Just thought I'd drop a word of caution for future MATH 147 students. If you are self motivated, this class is ridiculously easy. If you depend on somebody teaching you to pass, find another prof.
If you can memorize the text book then this is the class for you. Homework consisted of mostly truefalse questions and a paragraph defending your answer. She is very loud and if you have a question she just gets louder until you give up. Test were hard to finish on time and the test average were consistently a low 60. Don't take Linear at TCC.
She is the worst teacher I have had in my entire life. She is very unclear when it comes to answering students questions. On tests and homework she takes off massive points for commas, capitalization, spacing used, and if you use dividemultiple horizontal instead of vertically.
If you have anxiety or get stressed out easily, do not take LaFlesh. I could not handle her class, or interacting with her, and it just killed my grades. If you made any noise at all (including getting up to use the restroom) she gets aggravated.
I SHOULD HAVE READ EVERYONE'S REVIEWS ON THIS TEACHER! Well I read them but didn't pay attention. I dropped this class after one week. She talks very slow and only gets through one or two homework problems from a previous night, so she never ends up actually teaching the topic for the current homework. Absolutely pointless. DON'T take her class!!
Has a very specific and drawn out way to show all work that is specific to her. The work is super easy but she marks down so hard on format that you knowledge or ability to solve a problem doesn't matter. Is scattered and often uses entire class to get through one problem. sometimes doesn't discuss subject until after work is due on it.
For a low class like 141, she's a good teacher but for anything higher and I'm not sure she would be a good enough teacher to explain new concepts. Nice person. Gives ridiculous amounts of extra credit if you go above and beyond the call of duty. She does try to give you the best grade possible, but she will mark you down for little things.
Meredith is funny, but can be rather confusing. I took her for summer, so it was fast paced which could be to blame. Lots of applied practice in-class and group assignments. You get to know who you're sitting next to. She gives little homework, but expects perfection. So many ways to earn extra credit! Overall I enjoyed her class.
I was a 4.0 student until LaFlesh, 106%, 106.5%, 111.8% in all my other classes, then LaFlesh 90.8%. I was even a study group leader in her class and couldn't get an "A". I missed 3 problems all year long, the rest of my downgrading was due to not wording my statements correct even though I had the answer correct. There is very little extra credit
She seems like a good person but her delivery of material is really unorganized. Most of the class is confused and is expected to rely on each other to figure it out. I'm really thinking about dropping this class for a teacher that can better explain things and give material to study on my own
Meredith is a great professor, the subject itself is difficult but I understood it after asking questions. I never had to go to office hours but got help from her during class and she is willing to work with you if you email her and let her know that you're trying. She is really nice and wants you to succeed. Going to class is necessary.
I am a 4.0 student though I received an A in her class, I watched as most everyone struggled to pass. The hardest part of the class is the fact that when interpreting your answers you grammar and format of statements must be on point. Most point are lost on very petty things. Beware of the group solves, your classmates will effect your grade.
She is very very nice ,and responsible.I really like her teaching style. I took math 141 with her. She explained everything so clear. Even tho she is very tough comes to grade, but as long as you work hard, you still can get receive a grade in the end.
Watch your format in this class. If you ask her about a sample of your work she'll tell you what you need to do, but other than that you will find out on your test score.
I've never had a worse teacher. Her grading is ridiculous and very unclear. You can have all of the work and answer done right and still get 50% on assignments/tests because one word on your interpretation. I had to withdraw from her class because she was so frustrating and impossible to learn from. If you have any other options DO NOT take her!
First of all, her homework assignments are ridiculous. We only used the book a few times. Her lecture were awful. For her homework, you have to copy the direction, copy the question, show each step of the work, explain why you did that... and after all of that.... you lose points for a grammar error. Ridiculous!
Grades are highly dependent on test scores, be cautious and make sure you know all requirements ahead of time. If you're able to learning from a text book and are fairly good at algebra already, you might get a decent grade. The professor is very difficult to learn from, and will heavily downgrade you if you're answers are not worded perfectly.
I should have gone with the ratings, not a bad person but a bad teacher. I don't learn it or fully understand the material. Group solves carried my grade exams were the worst . Don't waste your time if you want to learn pre-cal unless you already know it. Overall you'll be going to the MARC for help. Don't miss class if you take her.
Very hard on grading. It is impossible to get a good grade in this class if you don't take notes and show up every day. Do yourself a favor and do not take this class if other options are available !!!
She collects a whole groups assignment and grades only 1 at random. Very test heavy and she expects your group to teach you.
This teacher will grade your paper homework based on English and Art. She will also grade your tests based on English and Art. If you are forced to take her as a teacher, be sure you bring a ruler and label everything on your drawn graphs. She's extremely picky, though she claims she is not.
You get into groups every day and she hands your group a packet of material you haven't learned and she hopes for you and your classmates to figure it out and turn it in for credit.
This professor is personable, approachable, and easy to communicate with. However as an instructor she is AWFUL. Her grading is frustrating; often times you will be docked points for things that have nothing to do with the concept. I have never rated a professor before now. She is THAT bad. Avoid this instructor if you wish to have success.
Okay I am so so so glad that I was able to withdraw from her class because of my change In Career. Right from the very beginning I was already nervous. She doesnt explain things too well and she seems very unorganized. Try to avoid this professor but if you dont have any other choice, get ready to teach yourself and use the book to do so.
Tough
She is really tough grader. She will your points off for EVERYTHING! Take her class only if you have a good math background. But, she gives tons of extra credits. Good teacher, like her!
Do NOT take this professor. You will regret it. I've taken precalc in high school and had no problem getting top of my class. Then I come and try to take it in college and its nothing like what I learned. She takes points off for the most random things. There is no way to figure out what she expects from you. Correct answers mean nothing to her.
How 2 succeed: *b4 ANY assignment is due-have her check it ALL. *Stay ahead of the curve wit your hw-she will only confuse u *Heavily group graded (roulette style)-find a friend, learn from eachother- help ur classmates. *invest n Chegg/Coursehero(will help wit HW) *use correct spelling & u can nvr b 2 thorough explaining problems. * good luck
Read the textbook to learn, get her to check all your hw beforehand, over explain every possible thing, but be ready to lose points for no reason whatsoever. There are plenty of opportunities for extra credit, but she is very scatter brained, and not good at explaining what she wants, and has unclear expectations. Good Luck!
I was skeptical to enroll into her class based off the reviews. Honestly, shes not that bad! I can only imagine that the bad reviews are from either 1)slackersdont read the book or find external help 2)dont understand how to adapt to different teaching styles, or 3)arent ready for pre-calculus. Read the book and take your time during homework
This class was really difficult. I had to go to tutoring almost every day because the book doesn't help much and webassign isn't a very good site. I wish more was taught in the class. On a good note though this was definitely one of the sweetest teachers I met.
You will never understand the grading criteria as she does not even know it. For some reason she feels this more of an English class rather than math class. Also, she gets annoyed after she rambles on not really explaining anything, and people try to ask questions. I would never allow anybody I know to take her.
Track her down in her office hours and ask questions she is willing to explain things i f you ask. Also fight for every EXTRA CREDIT you can those will help you out from week to week. Watch out for her Written Homework try and get it looked at before hand so you know what she is looking for
She does not explain anything in her lectures and her tests are even more confusing. If you read the book through and through you can get a grasp of the homework but good luck on the exam because she does not work the problems correctly. Her grading style is based on favoritism and luck. This is not a math class, this is a waste of time and money.
DO NOT SKIP ANY AND DO ALL THE HOME WORK
She seems like a nice person, but her lectures were quite terrible to be honest. I see others on here say that bad reviews are from slackers, but I don't believe that to be the case. My review is based off her unclear lectures where she often messes up her own problem, and her unclear/harsh grading criteria. Please avoid this class if possible.
Horrible. She couldn't explain why she graded the way she did or what her grading was based on. She didn't teach us. We were supposed to learn from the book. Also, she treats the class like an English class where a relatively large percentage of your grade is based on how well you can write a paper.
Theres no way shes following any kind of grading scale. She is not clear on how she wants you to answer questions on quizzes. I had to learn all the material from YouTube.
These reviews state that only slackers do badly in her classes. This is very untrue. I had to drop this class midway through because it would have hurt my GPA terribly. She is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. Her grading is an absolute joke. On the quizzes the averages were below 60%. Don' take any of her classes even if only option.
Difficult course but extra credit and supplemental instruction helped a lot. Do all the work and if you understand material you can easily get an A. She is very specific with how she wants projects done, so pay attention and double check work. Gives partial credit for shown work.
Meredith is the worst professor I have had to take. Her lectures are unclear and hard to follow. She makes many mistakes that students have to correct. It is not her students that are the problem it is her. Ex: The average grade on the final was 60/150! This professor should not be teaching anymore. AVOID!!
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!! She is terrible at giving organized assignments, and awful at helping you pass the class. She is super strict about homework and will take away points if it isn't exactly how she wants it done. If you miss a class your grade drops drastically. She is the absolute worst professor I have encountered at TCC. Stay clear of her!
I have not one good thing to say about this woman, this is the worst class and worst professor you will ever have. She does not care for her students and i honestly think she enjoys seeing her students fail. she has no grading rubric, i have been stood up for meeting 4 times by her. DONTTAKEHERCLASSUNLESSUDONTLIKEURSLEF. i wish i could write more
Do not take this class. She is not easily accessible and is not very understanding when it comes to personal issues. She does not take late assignments and expects 15 hours a week to be spent on homework. Not personable at all, everyone i've talked to was heavily struggling in this class.
Merideth by far has been the WORST teacher I have ever had in my two years of college. She never lectured or posted anything online. She was never in her office and was irritated if you asked questions. During the final two weeks, she canceled all classes and crammed 3 new modules in our final week, so I was screwed on prep for the final. AVOID her
Learning in her classes is basically all online. Prof doesn't teach; instead assigns group work and sits for the class and waits for questions, but gets irritated when you do have any. Class meetings were a waste of time. Her canvas modules were constantly changing; giving you no time to learn the work for the now due hw. Faculty don't care, RIPGPA
